Championship weekend; SGV Domination
For all championship games Thursday-Saturday, tickets are $8/adults, $5/children under 13 and students with ID. I believe you can buy pre-sale tickets at the schools, or just buy them at the gate. Can anyone remember a year like this in the San Gabriel Valley? I've talked to Tribune prep legend Steve Hunt, Stevie R., John Honell and nobody can seem to remember ever having six teams playing for championships, four in baseball, two in softball. Maybe it's just me taking over the prep seat and spreading all the good karma. Whatever, the SGV is "where winning" happens.

Above: This was just a sprinkle of the 750-1000 fans at Northview on Tuesday.
LIVE BLOGGING: If you can't make the games, we will do live blogging with inning-by-inning updates from Dodger Stadium and UC Riverside.
MEN OF HONOR: It's a safe bet to assume the player and coach of the year will come from one of these four baseball teams.

nobody in this division can match diamond ranch's heart and that is wat id going to carry us
hey milk man did you a pink ring too for your championship team wayyy back in 1969? whats with all the old amat fans on this blog?
milkmantothestars--would that be considered a "weak ass' screen name?? Or is that really your name? You amat guys kill us. Regardless, good luck in your really tough game Saturday, it's not the players fault....
I are serious, really.
Consistency is one mark of a great coach and if season-long consistency were the sole attribute considered, I would have to give you Nieto, Smith, or Murphy. Some, however, would make a case for a coach who built up to a championship caliber team through the length of a season without the advantage of two or three or four D1 prospects on the roster.
Like I said before, I'm no Pantherite, (you guys from D R can go ahead and use that, I just now made it up ), but I am way surprised they are in the finals. On the other hand, I am not surprised to find Northview and South Hills there and had Amat not made it to the championship I would have called for a grand jury investigation. Just one man's opinion.
what is up with the haters hers? the weak ass posters who hide behind there nickname, I'm an Amat guy and a SGV fan, claim a team as yours and back them, why hate on a team(didn't pass the entrance exam) Amat 1969 2 time CIF Champ
Sorry Don but I beg to differ.. DRanch has had a great playoff run and ups to them for that BUT they have played inconsistantly all year and their record reflects that. COY is based on many things and not just who gets their team to the finals. it would be too predictable if that were the case. If anything DR never quite lived up to their hype at the beginning and mid-season. Again, ups to them for their great playoff performance BUT in truth they have not been that great all year and that starts with the coaching!
congrats to all the local teams, baseball and softball...but let's be realistic, we are the top dog of the second tier , only Glendora is playing higher than D3, we'll never know how good these teams are because they have no stones, at least not enough to play the big boys(girls), not only this year but EVER, that's not an opinion it's a fact, save for Amat baseball, who has played some of the upper echelon teams, at least they go to D4 next year they should be at least D2, but that's from the CIF office, not the school, good luck to all this weekend!!
Best wishes to all the local kids for their playoff run but for my money, the only real surprise are the kids from Diamond Ranch and because of that you should give Coach Verplancke a long look when you select your COY. Darren Murphy and Andy Nieto do a fine job manipulating some extraordinary talent, but ....
I'm no big fan of D R; admirer? Maybe. You do though have to give some bigtime credit to Joe Verplancke for getting the Panthers as far as they have come.
Another guy to consider is John Knott at Bonita; a very classy guy as well as an excellent teacher of the game who seems to have resurrected what had been a pretty sad program.
BTW, while on the subject of lists, you may want to consider the kid from South Hills when you pick a Catcher for your All Area team. There will no doubt be heavy lobbying for various Vikings, Lancers, and Chargers, but as the auto ads say: check the numbers.
To BA:
Where's your team?
GOOOOOO ST PAUL AND OCEAN VIEW.
Good luck to all of the teams competing for Championships, especially the ones playing at Dodger Stadium. How awesome is that?!
Fred -- THAT has got to be the reason!!!! Welcome aboard.
We have always known how tough the SGV has been, but it sure is nice to see and prove to the others. Good Luck to all BUT especially our NORTHVIEW VIKINGS. Go Vikings Go!!!!
