CIF Baseball Pairings
"The shot heard around the SGV," which Aram playfully called it. Northview's R.J. Arnold belted a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Vikings to a 4-3 playoff victory over the Bearcats in last year's quarterfinals. Guess what, they're on track to meet in the quarters again.

Start discussing the CIF baseball pairings as they come off the CIF website. I posted the links and times below.
Click here to view a full breakdown of the CIF pairings from the CIF website
Division II: Damien is the lone local here, and they will be on the road in the first round at Santa Barbara, the Channel League champion. Both teams are 17-8.
Division III: San Antonio League champion South Hills is on the top half of the Div. III bracket and will host the wild-card winner between Costa Mesa and Glenn on Thursday. Nogales, the San Antonio runner-up, is on the road against Santa Ana Calvary Chapel, who won the Orange Coast League. Rowland will be on road Tuesday against Colony in a wild card-game.
Division IV: Northview earned the top-seed in Div. IV and will host the winner of Tuesday's wild-card between Beverly Hills and Lompoc Cabrillo in the first round on Friday. Bonita is at home against Malibu, and could meet Northview in quarterfinals. In the bottom half, Diamond Ranch is on the road against Santa Monica and San Dimas is at home against Granite Hills. If DRanch and San Dimas, win, DRanch would host San Dimas in the second round. Also, Covina is at Cathedral City with Charter Oak at home against Victor Valley. If both win, Covina would host Charter Oak in second round.
Division V: Defending champion Bishop Amat earned the top-seed in Div. V and will host the winner from Tuesday's wild-card between Calvary Chapel Downey and Riverside Christian in Thursday's first-round game. La Puente will host Christian runner-up Ontario Christian, and if they win, would likely face Bishop Amat in the second round in a battle for La Puente-area bragging rights. Montview League champion Azusa will host Aquinas with the winner likely to face No. 3 St. Paul. Arroyo is on the road against Mary Star and South El Monte makes the long haul to Hesperia in first-round games. Christian League champ Western Christian is at home against Paraclete and could meet No. 2 Monrovia in the second round. Duarte is at Sultana and Sierra Vista has a wild-card game today at Cantwell Sacred Heart.

Yeah, Ken and Barbie
THOSE MALIBU KIDS GET ALL THE BREAKS!!!!
Bonita vs Malibu game has been changed to THURSDAY 3:15 @ Bonita HS, due to a conflict with Malibu's prom. Coach Knott did the right thing by honoring Malibu's request for a game change.
Correct answer - incorrect assumption. I asked "major division", as in top half of the divisions. And we're talking boys championships, we all know about the girls run. To get there beat #1 seeded Artesia (heard of them in basketball?)
Unfortunately, it does bring up a sore spot as, admittedly, our boys basketball program has been in the toilet. Hopefully the resurgence of football will bring some athletes to help but, alas, things may not change until the coaching does.
joe amat: amat must have been the last basketball team to win a title. They must have been in a lower level division like 2o to win it
you amat people - to quote mike the clone -- YOU JUST DON'T GET IT or do you and you just throw out that false pride. We are still not buying the 'worthiness' but keep trying - someone - might get it.

The baseball playoffs are always an exciting time and like someone mentioned earlier its hard to predict who might end up where. Its all about being on a roll at the end of the season. I dont see NV making a run because they just coasted the last part of the season. The next couple of weeks should be interesting.
"Dont be Surprised",
Thats is the great thing about sports, particularly baseball. You don't have to be the best team -You just have to be the best team..THAT DAY!
"excuse maker",
if you read up the CIF rules, with California's "open enrollment", an incoming 9th grader being eligible at any school that will accept them, and the 1 time "free transfer" after the freshman year - no one has the restrictions and kids can essentially go anywhere. As I've said before it is perfectly fine with CIF for some 9th grade kid in San Bernardino to get on the westbound Metrolink and jump off as it flies by Charter Oak if he wanted to play football there. That kid would be eligible right away. Or if he transfered anytime before his sophomore year. No funny stuff required - perfectly legal...even for a public school. The field is more even than you want to admit. except they don't have to pay tuition at the public schools. So the question to ask yourself is why are those athletes that you speak of - choosing to go to Amat?
"sgvbaseballfan" - thanks for helping to prove my point.
***NV swept Covina - Covina "mercied" Monrovia - and Monrovia beat NV***
Anything can happen...as I said. Thanks!
"cry me a river"-Go back to my message and "read it and weep"!
While I did say that any of the final four can beat any of the others (which is true- D3 Notre Dame can beat seeded teams in D1 (and has), yet lost to Westlake and Whittier - and D5 St Paul beat both! Palos Verdes is seeded in D2 and they lost to D5 Bishop Montgomery! #1 D4 Northview lost to D5...well you get the picture!)
It was more to the Lancers not to read the press clippings because once you get to the playoffs - things happen and you have to bring your "A Game" every night.
So once again - to everybody - bring your best. In the "1 and done" playoffs there is no more tomorrow!
PS: and to "nice try"....since you "poo-poo" LV Lu's DV championship -
guess who was the last SGV school to win a major division CIF Basketball Championship !:?)
Q.W.T.E,
Who are those you say will call into question a D5 championship? YOU, which means absolutely nothing to the scouts that show up to watch our boys play and recruit - So call into question anything you would like, just remember YOU and your questioning mean NOTHING!
Now do you get it?
Amat people - it's quite simple. WHY do you not understand??? Your school does get the good athletes as there are NO boundaries or restrictions...so of course scouts are going to come and watch. Your sports programs should ALWAYS be full of a few outstanding athletes - maybe more - but what EVERYONE seems to try and get through to you all, is in DIVISION 5 - YOU DO and WILL NOT play against the same quality players PERIOD.... and therefore the worthiness of the championship title comes into question.
In 1988 the Dodgers were huge underdogs to the Oakland A's, but the games had to be played and the Dodgers won that World Series. In Baseball anything can happen and being a underdog is not a big deal in the game of baseball. If a La Puente would beat a Bishop Amat it would be a shocker but also any team can have a outstanding pitching performance and win a game against high odds. If Northview should get upset in their first or second game does that take away the fact that they beat Amat. NO they got up and played a outstanding game that nite. CIF playoffs in baseball are a whole new season all together and you may be a glamour team with a flawless record but that does not mean you cannot come in and have a lousy game. I have seen the best lose to the worst and it happens, does not make you a bad team just makes the game of baseball all that more fun to watch. Upsets happen allot in baseball.
Why try to defend Amat, look if Amat wins out they will be D5 Champions and if NV wins out they will be D4 Champions this will be great for all involved - Though I have to say that N.T.P.F is correct there is always scouts both college and pro at our games, so this must mean something - If a kid can play he can play no matter which division he/she happens to play in.
Don't bring up o we beat this team who beat northview.. Cuz northview beat you so obviously that means nothing.. And don't bring up monrovia because covina mercied.. Yes MERCIED monrovia in the covina northview tourny
We'll take those D5 championships all day. If this is where the CIF puts us we will keep winning until they move us. A win is a win , a Championship is a Championship and a Ring is a Ring. jealous yet? Nothing is for sure this year and we may lose and not win this year but you cannot take anything away from these kids they play the game and are winning in doing so. F the parents that come in here and talk this program down. It is all about the kids not some parents ego who kid most likely rides the pine so he has to vent by slaming Amat. If d5 was so weak why are the scouts at our games and why are 4-5 players getting full rides to college. F.O.SHI- JEALOUS ADULTS GROW UP LOSERS.
2nd round against LaPuente - brag about that 2nd round draw amat.......Tough one there. true anything can happen but the odds are in your favor - AGAIN. Let's here the spin again, i almost believed it the first time around -NOT-POWDERPUFF DIV. 5 RING WEARERS
Nice spin joe. It's obvious amat's division is weak. might as well just hand them the trophy now. This reminds me of LaVerne Lutherans lower level basketball title. Snoozeeee
you amat people keep telling yourselves you can beat anyone in the higher divisions. we know, we know you won 2 out of the 4 in the BIG NATIONAL tourney. bahabahabaha

Granted, the teams in the playoffs may not be as highly thought of as some of Amat's non-league opponents, but anyone who enters the playoffs in ANY division thinking that there is no competition could be in for a rude awakening.
In all fairness, the Final Four of any division could beat anyone in the Final Four of another division on any given day.
That's evidenced by top teams like teams like:
Temple City (who beat South Hills, Monrovia, and South Torrance)
Monrovia (who beat the great and mighty top seeded in DIV Northview Vikings)
Not to mention a 4th matchup with any decent team is always difficult so meeting any of the following is tough.
St Paul (wins over Westlake, Palisades, and Mayfair - who also beat Northview)
Bishop Montgomery (swept Alemany - who beat South Hills)
La Salle (beat Monrovia - who beat... well, you remember)
and even Western Christian beat Alhambra - who spent most of the season as the top ranked team in DIII.
So the Lancers better come to play.... and so better everyone else. Because now - anything can happen, and sometimes does!
Good Luck!
Get Amat out of div v, they dont face any serious competition. What a joke!!!
Fred J and fans,
Sorry, my bad, found the answer to my question. Barstow beat out Granite Hills in league. CIF never makes mistakes.
Fred J and fans,
Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong but the team playing San Dimas on Friday is Granite Hills of Desert Sky league. According to the records, it looks like they should be rated #1 and the second seed should be Barstow. Granite Hills won out with the season series and they have the overall better record. Does anyone else see it that way or am I not seeing something. Thanks for clarifying is you should know.
The sierra league may be one and done. Ayala must play a wild card game vs Yucaipa who has a lot of talent and has not played well. They may start the #2 pitcher Scott Snodgress(Stanford) or jr ace Matt Davidson(USC). Yucaipa has a nice home field with elevated areas where you can sit in a nice chair. Ayala a hot team must play well to beat Yucaipa. Winner gets baseline #1 Upland. Damien makes the long road trip to Santa Barbara. Chino Hills will play a team with a better record and this will may be the only sierra win. REV was fortunate to get the #1 seed losing the last game to Redands 2-0. The #2 and #3 teams are West Torrance and Vista Murrieta both good teams with outstanding pitching. I will be at the Ayala-Yucaipa game.
Any predictions on first round fred??
Bonita plays the Malibu Sharks on Friday at Bonita. The winner of that game plays the winner of the Torrance vs. Fullerton game. Good luck to the Bearcats.
sorry Div is Thur. 15th
You're absolutely right, thanks for keeping me straight, Div. V is on Thursday.
First Round Div. 4 Fri the 16th
Fred, on the CIF Division V brackets it has all of the first round games being played on Thursday May 15th. You have suggested they are on Friday, May 16th. Please check your sources and let us know.
Thank you.
Thanks Fred. Good luck to all in the SGV.
Question... Does Bonita play Fullerton or Malibu ?
