Monday Morning Football
Instead of a top ten impact players list this week, our scouting guru put together a list of the top ten prospects in the San Gabriel Valley. This is a list of the top ten players that have the best chance of succeeding at the next level. I'm kind of busy with the baseball and softball playoffs, so the impact players list will come out next week.

Charter Oak quarterback Chris Allen expects a huge senior season after two years as a starter.
Fred's reaction: First of all, there's a full breakdown of each of these players by clicking the thread, and our scouring guru also talks about many others, so check it out. Now, I don't know how he could have a top ten list and leave off Tim Gilmore of Wilson. Tim would be in my top three, and Nico Barbone of San Dimas would also be a top ten impact player. I would also have to include Los Altos kicker Jeremy Brown, who could be a big-time kicker in college. Maybe this is why I'm not a scout, I don't know, I'll let you discuss it.
1. Sheldon Price, Bishop Amat, Jr, DB
2. Cameron Deen, South Hills, Jr, QB
3. Brent Seals, Bishop Amat, Jr, LB
4. Brandon Sermons, Diamond Ranch, Jr, DB/RB
5. Adam Muema, Charter Oak, So, RB
6. Ricky Johnson, West Covina, So, RB
7. Taylor Herrera, Damien, Jr, WR
8. Wayne Goss, South Hills, Jr, LB
9. Chris Allen, Charter Oak, Jr, QB
10(t). Isaiah Bowens, Bishop Amat, Jr, LB/WR
10(t) Miles Bevel, South Hills, So, FS
1. Sheldon Price - Defensive Back - Bishop Amat - It is a job of football scout to isolate the talent in a particular area and see if he fits in collegiate program. In the case of our top-rated prospect in the area, Price does fit as a UCLA impact player. Price has extremely long wingspan, great athletic ability and the ability to compete at a high level (i.e. Nike Camp at USC). Now that he committed to the school of his dreams, it will be interesting to see if he shows any improvement from his junior year to his senior year. If he shows dramatic film improvement, looks for USC to come in at the last minute and see if they can strong-arm this guy over to their school. Keep in mind that his father was player with the NY Jets and the defensive coordinator during that time was a guy by the name of Pete Carroll.
2. Cameron Deen - Quarterback - South Hills - Sometimes players that are participating in spring sports have a drop in stock because they haven't been playing in the sport that they are being recruited heavily in. In the case of Deen (who has been on the baseball team), that has not been the case. There is no player that colleges have been looking at more closely during the spring evaluation period that this player. Reports are circulating that offensive coordinators from Pac-10 schools have visited SH just to take a look at this guy. A large part for that was his outstanding performance at the Nike Camp where he competed very well against the best that Southern California threw at him. I would be shocked if this guy doesn't have an offer by the end of July. Let's just say that I not only think this guy can play on Saturday's but he can play on Sunday's as well. HC says that he has "it"...and he wouldn't get a disagreement from us. Looking for him to have a huge 2008.
3. Brent Seals - Linebacker - Bishop Amat -- I have good news and bad news on this player. The good news is that has everything you are looking for in a football player, speed, size, strength and...outstanding grades with out of the world test scores. Now for the bad news, Pac-10 schools are just not in love with this guy. Now, can he improve his stock with a solid spring and summer? Absolutely. If you are to ask me what this guy needs to do to improve his stock, my answer is simple: he needs to go to a Pac-10 football camp and perform solidly. There are too many stories replete with players that improved their stock with great performances at college summer camps. The one player that comes to mind was former Walnut offensive tackle Sean Sheller. Here is the reason why they are so good: they are real cheap and the prospect gets to work with some of the best coaches in the business. Right now, he grades out as a mid-level D-1A player. I like the player and wish him the best in chasing down a Pac-10 offer.
4. Brandon Sermons - Defensive Back - Diamond Ranch -- I had him graded a bit lower than Price, but with a nice upside. What caught my eye when viewing him at the Nike Camp was that he outworked Corona Santiago Internet phenom Sean Martin throughout the afternoon. I like him more at free-safety than cornerback and I'm looking for him to improve his stock when the season starts rolling. BA fans can only imagine what a secondary would like with Price and Sermons at the corners with Darian Johnson rolling in and out of games on a rotation basis. Oh well, it always good to dream isn't it? Look for a Pac-10 school to offer Sermons this week.
5. Adam Muema - Soph. - Running Back - Charter Oak -- I would have loved to have seen this guy at either a Nike Combine or Nike Camp. It would have improved his stock tremendously. At any case, this is the best running back in the area coming into the 2008 season. He has it all, size, speed, strength. The only question I have for this guy is if he can handle being "the guy" in 2008? That answer will come this fall and will go along way in determining whether this prospect in a middle of the road college recruit or a Pac-10 player.
6. Ricky Johnson - Soph. - Running Back - West Covina - Second best running back in the area and made huge improvements physically this spring. Ran a little track and turned in a personal best of 11.00 in the 100m in WC's dual meet against South Hills. This is a home run hitting running back that is going to have a huge year in 2008. It will be interesting on how the new OC at West Covina will be using this player in the upcoming season. He handled the position of being "the man" last year and is one great year away from being a Pac-10 player. Lots to like here...
7. Taylor Herrera - Wide Receiver - Daimen -- From a speed point of view, there is not much that separates this guy from Wilson running back Tim Gilmore. However, this is a guy that has a great upside and will be evaluated very closely once we get into September. Wide receiver that is built very nicely and fits in a spread offense as an outside receiver. Ran an electronic 200m in 21.5 at the Mt. Sac meet; there are lots to like here. The only part of his game that he needs to work on is the mental part of the game. To many times, we saw this guy drop passes that would have been caught be legitimate college receivers. It's what separates players that don't make it, to players that get looks by quality collegiate programs. The Damien-Bishop Amat game will go a long way in determining whether this guy is D-1 player or not.
8. Wayne Goss - Linebacker - South Hills - Now were getting into the heart of players that I have as "second-tier" prospects and this guy is a solid fit. Tough kid that has lived in the weight room and in the classroom (GPA 3.5). Brings a lot of value on recruiting boards because of his versatility as a multi-positional player as well as an impact special teams player. The two major knocks on this guy are his speed (he's a 4.7 guy on his best day) and he must take better angles when playing the WILL linebacker position. If a D-1AA program was able to sign Goss AND Seals, that coach needs a pay raise for a great recruiting job. Those are two guys that will rip off the heads of the opposition and are smart at the same time.
9. Chris Allen - Quarterback - Charter Oak -- I would love to make a strong case for this guy as a D-1 quarterback. After all, you have to be something special to lead your team to an appearance in the CIF finals 2 years ago and to the Semifinals last year. But, there were two things that give me great concern on this prospect. One, his showing at the Nike Camp was fair at best. He was measured at 6-0, 220, he came in out of shape and it showed. Second, I just don't know how fast this guy is. He has never attended a combine, so his speed has to be called into question. Usually, there is a buzz about a prospect in the area during this evaluation period (coaches are usually calling us asking for extra film on the player, etc.), but with Allen there has been no buzz at all. Hopefully, this guy will go to a camp and improve his stock.
10(t). Isaiah Bowens - Linebacker/Wide Receiver - Bishop Amat - The word coming out of the recruiting world during the spring evaluation period is "How can UCLA offer a kid like this?" And you know what, I was one of them. I just didn't see it when I saw his highlight tape and game film. I had one Pac-10 coach tell me recently that; "The highlight tape should take you to the game tape." When I viewed his highlight tape, it just didn't take me to the game tape. I thought he was more of a wide receiver prospect and not a defensive prospect. But, let me give you something to think about. And this thought came from another Pac-10 coach that didn't care for Bowens either. DeWayne Walker, a former Mt. SAC coach, once worked for Bill Belichick in New England and got exposed to the way Belichick evaluated players. The Patriots made a living out of drafting players that no one would even touch and getting the most out of them. This looks like a classic Belichick move here. Do I understand what UCLA is doing? You bet. Do I agree with them? Not really. To me, he looks like a boom or bust type here.
10(t) Miles Bevel - Soph. - Free Safety - South Hills -- Looking forward to seeing this guy play in 2008. Played baseball in spring and was used as a pinch runner for the majority of the season. Love the way he plays, he reminds me a lot of University of Tennessee Free Safety Jonathan Hefney. He can cover, catch, run, and tackle as well as any safety in Southern California. Let's see if he can handle being a two-way player in 2008. Lots to like here!
NOTABLES -- Quick thoughts on some of the top talent in the area: Charter Oak's Tyler Perri has a great upside to him and can definitely work himself to be a top D-1AA prospect. South Hills' Alex Barrios is in the same boat. Love to be the coach on the all-start team that had these guys on your defensive lines. Wilson's Tim Gilmore has the speed to be a top-flight running back, but a questionable offensive line make his evaluation very difficult. San Dimas's Nico Barbone could be a nice fullback at the next level, but there is not much of a market for a collegiate scholarship fullback. Just ask former St. Paul/Diamond Ranch Running Back Aubrey Haynes. Plus, the majority of league coaches have said that they think Barbone is a great high school football player. When you factor that in along with not showing up at any of the Nike events, film evaluation in 2008 becomes that much more important. Diamond Ranch's Bryan Bonilla had a nice Nike camp and their game against Colony in week 1 will go a long way in determining if he gets a strong look by D-1 schools. Teammate, Bryan Spirlin doesn't look like much without pads on, but he is a tough player. He is more of a between the tackles type of running, and there just isn't a market for those types of backs today. He is one to follow. Bishop Amat's Jesse Prieto looks like he has been living in the weight room, but he's a little undersized right now and needs serious senior film evaluation. Teammate Nick Lenhart has the makings of a decent QB, but he needs to work on his consistency. His TD-Int. ratio in 2007 was terrible. But has the biggest arm of any quarterback in the area. West Covina's Albert Cid and Glendora's Cody Tescher come into the season as the top lineman but both need to improve dramatically to improve on their college stock. Los Altos's Jeremy Brown comes into the season as the top-collegiate kicking prospect. Noted kicking guru Chris Sailer has Brown as a top-40 kicker in the nation. He has a big leg with a huge upside. SH's Geofrrey Vaughns and BA's Darian Johnson are sophomores that saw significant playing time in 2007 and will be watched closely in 2008. They also need to spend a few extra days in the weight room. South Hills' sophomore wide receiver Iffy Umodu could very well be the best athlete in 2008 season. He is a spitting' image of University of Texas wide receiver Limas Sweed and comes from a winning family pedigree. Good luck to all the DC's who have SH on their schedule in trying to stop this guy this year. Bishop Amat's sophomore Wide Receiver Jerry McClanahan had a nice year in 2007 and if he has a better year in 2008, he will be landing on a lot of recruiting boards at this time next year.
IN CLOSING -- I've been holding this in for the longest time and it's time to let it go. As many of you know, the rage question in the spring has been the quarterback comparison between Upland Josh Nunez and Los Osos's Richard Brehaut. Now, these are two top-flight quarterbacks that will do well in 2008. But, in my mind, Nunez (who will be offered by UCLA fairly soon) has a lot of boom or bust written all over him. First off, he will be expected to make an immediate impact when he goes to college, and that is a lot of pressure on a kid that is good, but he is not all that great. He is a pro-style quarterback that needs work on his lateral quickness. The upside in there, but it will be the heighten level of expectation that might very well break him down when he gets to college. Los Osos's Brehaut grades out a lot better than Nunez (remember we evaluate all the talent in the Inland Empire) and there are Pac-10 QB coaches that have told me that they think Brehaut is the best QB in Southern California period next to Mater Dei's Barkley. One last thing to consider in this debate, Brehaut outperformed Nunez last year when they meet late in year (you can view the game on vootage.com). I'll take Brehaut over Nunez...heck I can make an argument from taking Deen over Nunez...but that is a discussion for another day. I'll end all QB conversations with this thought, if you think these guys are good, go to a recruiting website and watch the tape of class of 2010 quarterback Jake Heaps from Skyline HS in Washington. All I can say is WOW

Did you know something about academic papers writing services? Did you know such experts could compose custom papers of high quality. So, you could buy custom essay to be successful.
Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
Don't you know that it's high time to get the loans, which can make you dreams real.

You're wrong on at least three posts.
There mine dumba--
LOL
Wrong. Tony D'Amato is his own person. As well as those other names. Jimmy Nolan's take is different when compared to all the others. Joe got B-slapped and then STFU; Joe is a JOKE!, are both with single space. freaking hilarious and just a gutless creepy old man do not have a capitalized first letter.
That was the only feeble evidence you could cough up and it wasn't even correct.
And before you suggest it, I am my own person as well.
Don't believe me? Call and ask. 949 812 1857

All the same person. Easy to see. Everything Double spaced, first letter capitalized, same takes. Busted!
Reality Czech AKA Joe Amat- Everyone on here knows all your different names. It's too obvious. You wrote the Cogburns took steroids. You wrote the racist stereotyping remarks(twice) and the great irony is the only one on this board helping Nolan get business is YOU.
DUMBA**!
:0
STFU-take your own advice. it looks like Nolans slap was a swing and a miss since it was different blogger that brought up steroids. its just as likely that Nolan is posting under different names to fake support and drum up business.
Cantwell Parent what is racist about Winter Garden references and Rivera's boxing trainng references, cholo references and County Services references and Chroni Hotdog references and Whittier Blvd, unemplyment, boobie tattoes, ruca references. Litmus test. Raider mirror in the house, Raider slippers in the house, grandpa has at least one tattoo, maybe the famous cross with 3 rays or the always dependable 3 dots for Mi Vida Loca!, someone in the family is doing time, on section 8, on parole and/or is here illegally that is trying to fix his or her immigration status thru a quick fix to the altar or the Kaiser's Birthing Center in Bellflower. Last one. Ready. How many women in the family have tattoes on their ankles and/or left shoulder blade?
When the zapato fits you must submit!!!! You know the County drill. Hands againt the wall and spread em!
until joe amat comes out and admits who he is he is nothing more than someone on a blog blowing smoke up everyones butt.
Dude, have you guys heard of Joe Amat? Dude's LEGIT. He's been on CBS. Screw Jimmy Nolan, I'm all about who's been on the biggest network provider. And they call him "Coach". Man, once you've achieved that status you're right in there with the top T-ball coaches in the nation. What a title. Sides Jimmy Nolan only had one tackle in college according to an online stat I spent hours laboriously searching for. Joe Amat has more big time coach dinner buddies than Jimmy has tackles. Not to mention Jimmy Nolan leaves his phone number as an obvious plug for his business, not as an actual offer to answer any questions anyone has. I know that Joe Amat will never call Jimmy Nolan to clear this up hes taken the high road- Sticking to blogs.

the only workout joe amat ever did is beer curls. gotta keep up that amat raider imagine.
C'mon Joe Amat...
The Cogburn brothers do NOT use steroids, nor have they ever used steroids.
Yesterday you suggested they did.
Today you felt ashamed and posted a retraction on yesterday's statement.
The Cogburn brothers are hard workers. They're committed and consistent with their training.
Often when an athlete is very strong and fast, jealous people make "steroid accusations."
The Cogburn brothers will take your insult as a compliment.
Keep up the good entertainment Joe.
Jimmy Nolan

joe you are a cocky SOB arent you?
Joe Amat,
I am a parent of a former Cantwell football player. That post you wrote about Cantwell under a different name was probably the most racist and hurtful thing I have ever read. I hope to never again read something so malicious that is targeted at young kids and the hispanic culture.
JOE AMAT!
Just knowing Jimmy's in your head 24 hours a day has got me laughing. Thanks for the smile on my face.
A quote from Dumb and Dumber: "MAN, YOU ARE ONE PATHETIC LOSER!"
So first I'm accused of using another "alias" because of the same "...writing style, grammar, sentence structure, sarcasm, and vocabulary..."
THEN I'm someone else who
writes in one sentence, no capitals, punctuation ???
I must be EVERYONE on here that thinks that Jimmy has a ways to go to be a respected and accepted member of the coaching community. You see I'd much rather be *respected* than "loved by many"...especially when considering who " the many" really are.
And the "jealousy" thing gets old as a stand by when you have nothing else to say. Leave that at the playground. That's holds water as much as, "I know you are, but what am I". Not sure what you want to go by? CIF finals appearances...rings...winning %...family...kids...*respect* of my peers*. Sorry, I can only hope that Jimmy gets there. And I do...for his sake.So try a different tactic.
The TV thing impresses me about as much as the D1 thing did. I've done the CBS thing too. Not the little KCAL 9 affiliate. CBS. Not John Ireland, although I like him. Good guy. Not local either - National. Not sports, news - and they called me. I didn't have to "promote" myself to get on. I know how my marketing department does it. Not too tough...really. When they search you down, it's different.
So again...go back to my VERY FIRST POST on this thread even AFTER Jimmy's disrespectful rant.
"Nolan says some good things about recruiting and the difference between "game speed" and "combine speed". Even for a former "Monarch" !:?)
I'd much rather rely on film than a stopwatch. I've seen plenty of guys perform below what they suspected in an afternoon 40, that never got caught from behind under the lights. And I've told many a player in many a sport, that once you're on the radar - stay away from "exposure events" because sometimes you get "exposed"! We've had our share of USC skill players and some performed subpar on the clock - yet had good careers as Trojans. even if they couldn't "run down Reggie Bush".
So if you have a HS player or team, you'd be well served to take a look and listen to Nolan's program and his emphasis on speed over bulk."
And I do have to defend Nolan on one of the other posters accusation regarding the use of "substances". I have never heard that from anyone regarding kids that train with him or coaches/administrators that speak of him - regardless of how badly. His de-emphasis of "bigger and stronger" supports that.
Now...I've been having a battle of wits with unarmed men and this blog topic is about to drop off the main page.
So archive this!
was there a point to that post??
Petra and Chela, two comadres, are talking.

" JIMMY, OH JIMMY, OH JIMMY MACK, WHEN ARE YOU COMING BACK", JIMMY, CANT YOU HEAR ME JIMMY, OR JIMMY MACK YOU BETTER HURRY BACK."
1. Nobody has met the SGV GURU, silence rep, silence creditability, silence agent. What a joke! Ask Scout.com what they think about this crap?
2. You need knowledge and creditability to get on Jim Hill. Not many do!
3. Pretty obvious you're a jealous old man Joe Amat
4. At least he's loved by many despite the attacks by some on this pathetic blog.
5. Love the way he posted his name, but others that attack don’t. Must be Joe again under a different alias
reality czech is joe amat. i knew it.
little man-you must care too-or else you wouldn't have responded? why?
jimmy eats world.
why do you care so much about what someone else does? your appointment with the local shrink is at 10am. you better run along little man.
Let's try this again.
Jimmy came on here guns ablazing.
Jimmy came on here slamming the blog.
Jimmy came on here slamming SPARQS
Jimmy came on here slamming the combines.
Jimmy came on here slamming te SGV GURU services, reputation, credibility, ect. without ever meeting the man inspite of the fact it's his opinion and it hasnt been harsh or unprofessional.
Jimmy came on here and advertized his company, services and athletes as the endall to all methods.
Jimmy came on here and went upside Joe Amat's head even though Joe gave Jimmy and his methods and athletes props at the beginning and restated his admiration for his efforts with athletes both past and present.
Jimmy pouted like a spoliled child and dared Joe Amat to "bring it on" and "hoild back nothing. Was that childish, fake fronting or white boy gansta? I'm still not sure.
Jimmy made mention of "kids getting run over". Completely classless. Complete gutless. Again NO COACH OF ANY MERIT WOULD MAKE THAT COMMENT PUBLICLY. NONE. NO ONE. AT ANY TIME. NEVER. EVER.
Jimmy infused Nico's name to not only bludgeon the bloggers but to promote his methods. Again completely classless. Nico is one of the finest young men in the valley and no one has ever question his heart, integrity, character or work ethic. NEVER.
Jimmy then decided it was time to bring out the big guns and pretend he was above it all.
Jimmy decide to make himself the issue by calling people cowards and acting like a touh guy. Like the boxing video. Rivera train you?
Jimmy is probably a great trainer. No one is disputing that here or on KCAL 9 and Jimmy Hill or anywhere else. But does anyone understand that all you have to do is call the station to have them consider you for a story? My business card used to say.."As seen on K Cal 9" so I know what I'm talking about.
Jimmy for the sake of the kids that love you, the parents that pay you, the former players that admire you and the bloggers that may have wanted to use your services please stop acting like such a freaking child and admit you came on a little strong. You're old enough to know better, strong enough to admit when you're wrong and and seasoned enough to know that everyone isn't against you. Like the OC crowd, Cantwell's administration, jealous coaches, rival trainers, Pop Warner coaches, CIF and whatever other names you care to put on that list.
The time has come to grow up and be accountable. Not for the mistakes of the past but because it' the right thing to do. Check the ego at the door. One look at your My Space blog tells anyone everything they need to know about you. You're in your mid 30s right?
reality czech is joe amat? Hmmmm
Jimmy crack corn, more like Jimmy corn pipes crack.
Okay, I make it simple for some of you:
Coach Jimmy
Coach James
Coach Jim
Coach Nolan
Coach Mr. Nolan
Jimmy
James
Who cares, we like what he teaches the kids and if he becomes a friend and mentors his athletes BFD.
Maybe some should listen to "Jim Hills" special. I guess this network didn’t like his creditability either LOL
Go Speed Kills, were having fun learning new things.
Mr. Amat, after observing too much ugliness you've written, it is evident you thoroughly research high school athletics. It is obvious you have an extraordinary amount of jealousy for Jimmy Nolan. I believe the athletes call him "Jimmy" because he is a coach AND friend to our athletes. I, for one, am grateful for his posts and called him after reading. He is a gentleman.
If I may help you any, I'd like to leave you with some kind advice. Instead of stirring the pot with all your names (Reality Czech...) and tearing down high school kids, put your internet time to productive/positive use and praise our children for their hard work. I think this board could learn to like you. For now I wil pray for you. You have embarrassed yourself.
Sane? lmao he was all over the place. Pissed off one moment then saying sorry the next. If you believe that you should seek help too reality.
seek help? Jimy Eats World ' s post may have been the most sane of all.
jimy eats world
I am going to keep this simple. Seek professional help. You need it
relax and mind your own business
We have some of the finest coaches around in Gano, Bogan, Farrar, Quinley, ect and to a man no coach would have come on here and said the things Jimmy did. No coach in the San Gabriel Valley is called by his first name like Jimmy continually is. No coach in the San Gabriel Valley woud make the assinine remark, "maybe Nico ran over your kid". It's football everyone gets run over sometime. Bettis runs over Urlacker in the Sport Illustrated commercial. That's my beef. Acting like a man is not coming on here spraying the blog, the camps, the bloggers , sgv guru ect without impunity. Jimmy had his say and now like everyone else he's getting his compenserate with his attitude. Where are all the new found blog police coming from? Moral hypocrites is what you all sound like to me. Pick on everyone but your favorites. Better yet let's all try and keep our cool. What work's for some mught not work for others. Jimy's way is but one option. Jimmy Nolan please except my sincerest apologies if I hurt your feelings. Keep up the good work with the kids. They love you and appreciate what you do for them so let's end it on a good note. Best of luck with your business.
Nico is selling himself short playing for San Dimas and that Weak A-- league they play in. Oaks Christian tore them up and made them look bad, altho Nico got his and did his damage. If he played D1 football then we can talk about how his skills rate in a D1 10 game schedule, Nico should not take the easy road of playing for San Dimas. No doubt he will get selected to a college D1 hopefully while playing for San Dimas. If D1 he is a sure fit to play d1 ball.
the reality is that the other guy trying to offer services and stands to make a buck left his full name and number too. not doing so would be bad business.
jimmy relax
why don't you mind your own business? Nolan is the only person to come on this blog with his full name and phone and not do what you just did attack him randomly. If you got a beef with him call his phone number instead of doing the chicken sh** thing by posting your attack. If I was jimmy I wouldnt want to train your kid if he has a horrible attitude like you do.
Jimmy why can't you just shut up!
Show some class and shut up!
We get it you're all about the kids, the sport, the training, got it ! Now just shut up!
Act like a coach and stay above the fray. Act like a season professional and shut up!
Why the hostility? Why the need to defend your players? IT'S ALL SOOOOO SELF SERVING!!!! Okay they are all fast as jets, quick as a cats and as balanced as a Porsche...so freaking what?
Get over yourself! And shut up!
Who cares if Nico isn't fast enough...NOW.. the truth is someone will or will not take a chance on him, IN A YEAR!
I still think you're an a$$hole for making that "run over your kid comment" but so what. Anyone can read the OC blog about you and see that you're a controversial character...and have been for years. Still you're probably a great trainer, so what? Get a grip. You're coming off like the former BMOC that never grows up. I understand hard work and salute ANYONE that helps kids in their quest, whatever it may be, but please just shut up! You sound ridiculous! I thought about taking my son to you for services after seeing some of your athletes perform but I would never want my son around a man as angry and immature as you're coming across on here. Your hatred of SGV GURU and JOE AMAT is what's wrong with kids today....all hate and fronting. Did notice the SoN Of SaMsOn My Space link on YOUR mY Space isn't that Tommy's older brother...looks like a steriod freak to me ..WHAT AN EGO!!! but then again when I saw Tommy up close at the Bonita Tourney that's the first thought I had...steriods. That is until Amat's Price shut him down....that's right skinny 'ol Price. UCLA bound Price. Maybe that's part of your training methods and again I'll pass on that too.
Here's the thing. Most of your athletes become more than their genetics seem to allow. Goot is a good example. His position changes and development at USC should have been about heart, hard work and commitment but after hearing you maybe it's about something else. You know Jimmy some people will kill their bodies just to have their moment in the sun. I hope that's not the case with ANY of your athletes but your attitude and history would suggest otherwise...and that's unfair to your pupils. Again that PERSEPTION IS UNFAIR TO YOUR ATHLETES!
So take a chill pill Jimmy and enjoy what you do because apparently you do have a loyal following without the compound. Must save on overhead. GO UTAH!
Matt Grootegoed was faster at USC than he was at Mater Dei.
He is faster now than he was at USC.
He weighs about 205.
Nico Barbone IS FAST enough to play collegiate Division 1 football.
...end of story.
Kids, stay away from the camps and combines.
Jimmy Nolan
joe amat is bouncing around the bars in the barrio. is that a personal slam? lol
No lies, slams, just facts.
Grootegoed and Nolan are both from the Fountain Valley area and go way back. Jimmy was Matt's trainer even back at Mater Dei and helped him during off-seasons while at USC - and I'm assuming from his post - still does.
Grootegoed was let go by the Bucs, then the Lions latched on with Calgary's practice squad, was trying to get with Hamilton Tiger-Cats, if I remember and I think has stuck with Calgary on their roster. All since 2005. Would that be considered "bouncing around"
We only got into this because of the following exchange,
Jimmy said the following...And I responded as I did..
"A few months ago, Nico raced and beat one of my athletes. His name is Matt Grootegoed...anyone remember that guy? Was he D1? He was a great running back at Mater Dei...maybe you'd remember him."
This implying that Matt was some speedster and it somehow proved something. Shoot, Rocky beat Apollo Creed once on the beach too. Look, Groot is 26 coming off an injury and has gone from running back to strong safety to linebacker and bulked up from 185 to 215-225. You think he might be a step slower? I do! You think Barbone should beat him in a race?" I do! Does that prove anything? I don't think so.
That's a personal slam?
I know Matt is your FV homie, but is he still bouncing around Canadian practice squads?
Posted by: Joe Amat | June 1, 2008 4:05 PM
looks like a personal slam to me. you are not a good liar there joe.
Tony,
Nice reference. You'll like this - one of my favorite too.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WO4tIrjBDkk
Did you know that Pacino had a step-sister that played softball at Covina and a brother that played basketball and coached at Amat? Fun facts to know and tell.
IF you read what I first wrote - without trying to be "cute" - I said that the player in question(who I said NOTHING negative about-again, scroll down and find it if you can) SHOULD beat the pro athlete mentioned (who I also said was-and I quote a "HS stud"..."classic college overachiever"......"one of my favorite Trojans"..... "If you say Barbone can be the next Groot - good luck to him - I hope so." - that last one was a compliment too...AND acknowledging Nolans opinion of Barbone) this was my first post - nothin' nasty yet?
No one since has answered my guess that Grootegoed was faster as a 185lb stud running back than he is now at 215-225 trying to rehab and get back in the game. Go back down and read it. If so, again, Barbone SHOULD beat him. THAT"S degrading? To either player? I'm guessing that's a fact...but Jimmy and Dr Groots lunch date never answered - not sure what that says.
So yeah - I still think that a young stud running back with "questionable speed" (not degrading- a fair statement - on plenty of scouting reports- and could have described Groot in all the scouting reports too - it worked out OK for him) SHOULD be able beat Grootegoed who is rehabbing, 30 lbs heavier (give or take) and playing a different position than when he was at his fastest. THAT's degrading?
True...or not? You tell me.
Joey
You need to read a little more closely to your posts.
Some are a little smarter than you think! Your words were met to be degrading to a professional athlete and a minor that you have don’t even know! Trying to make a point in your cute like tone doesn't excuse your behavior.
What a classy guy?
Following the rules yet?
that was probably better than Nolans record at Laguna
couldnt go wrong either way? you do go wrong hiring a coach who was 10-27 in his last job
joes names for sale
lmfaooooooo
that was freaking hilarious
Good Job Dan!!
Dan's "school": Edgewood H.S. (oops I mean West Covina).
Class-Up the BLOG... stick with guys like Dan.
You parents want to learn about Division 1 recruiting: go speak with Coach Mike Maggiore (WCHS).
He was Mt. SAC's Mountie of the Year (1986) and All-Pac 10 Defensive Line (1990) Oregon State...
As a player he went through the recruiting process twice (H.S. and J.C.)and currently has former players sprinkled throughout the nation (from J.C.'s to Division 1 and everything in between)
First, Nolan as a "top candidate" at Amat is as big a farce as is possible. it was a two man race from the beginning and we could go no wrong either way.
Second, NEVER have I once in the HISTORY of the blog called out a player or "picked on" a minor. I dare you to find ONE example of this and on THIS TOPIC, I didn't even post until Nolan started to adverti..I mean...defend his athlete. And I did so, at first, in his support. That shouldn't be so tough for you - simply scroll down. Apology accepted.
J Amat:
No one but you has a problem with Jimmy Nolan. He came on here to defend a high school athlete.
You went out of your way in hopes of ruining his credibility. You have no class. Ashamed he pointed out you picking on minors? You should be.
As far as coaching goes, Jimmy has no desire to coach right now. You of all people should know he just turned down a 6 digit salary up north, and as a Amat homer wouldn't you write about how Jimmy was one of the top 5 candidates to take over Amat a few months ago? give Monsignor a call.
Keep it up Jimmy.
This blog is embarrasing with all this bickering and personal attacks, ain't this blog suppose to be about highschool football?
Think I'll go to the WSGV
blog for a few day's, at least they have a little more respect for each other.
Jimmy you might wat to kiss your high school coaching career goodbye with your immature back and forth with bloggers. Done it in the OC and now you're doing it in the SGV, what next the I.E.? Stick to training. Less oversight. No nosey administration to have to slide around. No CIF rules to abide by. And no real sense of authority. Why does everyone call you Jimmy? I still call every one of my former coaches, COACH. After all these years I still can not bring myself to release that distinction, well earned, from them. Too bad so many coaches want to be loved and worshipped that they give players that ability to break down that dynamic. Calling coaches by their first name is an abomination. Any player worth his blood, sweat and tears will tell you they've earned the right to call their coach, COACH. Bring a smile to BOTH their faces....forever.
Good luck Jimmy, Jimbo, J-MAN, JCuz, Big Jim, Jimmy Mac, My Dog, J-DOGG, BIGG Bo Man, JEE, Dr. Speed, Da Killa, Speed Man, sorry but you can call me old fashioned I like COACH.
Joe Amat: Hi Joe
My Pal Joey: Hey there Joe, what's going on?
Joe Amat: nothing much, just another day stalking athletes on the internet.
My Pal Joey: really, that's what we did yesterday.
Joe Amat: yah Joe, that's all we ever do.
My Pal Joey: can we spend some time over on the baseball blogs today?
Joe Amat: sure Joe, just give me a second. I'm doing some more internet research on Jimmy Nolan.
My Pal Joey: Really, I thought you did that yesterday?
Joe Amat: yah, but I really have a crush on this guy.
My Pal Joey: so do I
Joe Amat: we both do.
My Pal Joey: why do you keep staring at me?
Joe Amat: you're the one staring at me.
My Pal Joey: oh, that's right, I'm a mirror.
Joe Amat: enough of this talk, let's go stalk on the internet again.
My Pal Joey: alright! you're the best Joe! no one messes with us, right Joe!?
Joe Amat: can I have a hug? you're my only friend.
My Pal Joey: sure Joe, I've always loved you.
My Pal Jimmy,
A friend of mine likes to say, "The cream rises to the top." No exclamation point necessary.
That was without a doubt the nasiest piece of "good" advice I've ever read. I finally figured out who you are, or at least who you might be....either way if I ever get on your bad side ...give me a head's up OKAY?...LOL
Wow Joe Amat, the ball is in your court. I had a coach who said after a corner jumped the route and got burned..."Hey you gambed and you lost...MOVE ON NO EXCUSES!" If that's not enough I had another coach who was fond of telling us that decisions are like the spoken word..."Once the words leave your mouth you can never take them back...so think before you do. And KNOW the play/count/assignment before you get to the line (get the point?)"
Picking a fight with Jimmy was a bad move. Don't you agree? And Get Over Yourself...gave you an easy out that you bit on and Jimmy took you for 6! I know that didn't feel good....still laughing? ...
.... ... ... ... ..... ... .. .
.....

...
oh shoot! wait a second! I'm starting to realize my whole writing style is the exact same on this false identity I've chosen for this pathetic comment...my grammar, sentence structure, sarcasm, and vocabulary is a mirror image as when I type as "Jimmy Nolan" ....
awe man...caught!
Joe Amat,
Woah!
WHO DOES THAT!!??
SERIOUSLY, WHO SPENDS AN HOUR WRITING ME A COMMENT LAST NIGHT AND THEN ANOTHER HOUR SUPPORTING THE COMMENT WITH AN ALTERNATE EGO?
I'm going to start locking my door at night now...You're way too into me...just a creepy old weird man...stick to your "adult" websites and leave these high school athletes alone.
...truly sad. You have problems Joe Amat AKA "my pal Joey"...get some help (and all the other multiple personalities you hide behind on here)
question: do you talk to yourself in the mirror too?
Alright enough already...good luck to all the hard working athletes out there. Eat right, sleep right, and keep the grades up.
Don't allow this Joe Amat Ghost to bother any of you...anyone afraid to back up what they write is a fake...a coward.
Jimmy Nolan

Can"t Well Cardinal , now that your school has finally come out of the closet and officially become co-ed don't you think all that macho compensating is un-necessary? Clothes are for closets HOMIE!!! Come on out already! "Homie don't you know me???" Cantwell theme song..."IT'S RAINING MEN ALLELUYAH!!!!!" Seems your time in LOCK UP did you no good! Calling people fools? And you went to Catholic Private school? I read the OC Blog under Jimmy Nolan google search and it seems most if not all of Coach Nolan's supporters talk just like you....fool, man up, take it outside...pure low life gangsta stuff. Urban, Arrellanes, Rivera all sound the same. Seems the only former player with class is Vince. Who has been supporting Coach Nolan for at least 3 years! So C*ntwell Cardinal relax and stop with the fake Montebello Cholo routine. You Can't Well Cholos have been playing the part all the way back to the Winter Gardens days of old. Your crew wasn't sh&t then and your not even around anymore. So check yourself Vato Loco and stop Maflora-ing. If anyone is an embarssment to the San Gabriel Valley it's your Latino Cholo/Chola buddies who make the LA Dodger and Raiders logos a Gangsta Brand that now is on the Heads" of pendejos like you and on the left boobie of your rucas/sisters/mothers/abuelitas. Que no? Read Rivera's post on that blog and see if I'm wrong. Cholos are scum...from the cradle to the grave homie....only not soon enough for me! Hey they still have that VICTORY OUTREACH Center on Whittier Blvd? Check it out homies and stop the banging. EAST LA MOTHERS FOR PEACE que no??? Besides VO is down the street from the County Services Offices and maybe you can sneak in some Croni's Hotdogs in the Commerce 12 and tell your old lady, "I REALLY was looking for work baby" ...again. Hey homie I checked out the EastLos link you set up and I was rerouted to a North Hollywood address. Is that where all the Winter Gardens veteranos hang out after the pinta? Vavoso.
what year did you idol play at Utah?
Hey Joe Amat,
Just knowing that you have posted all those fake names to gather support for yourself is some funny stuff. For Amat's sake you should change your main identity. Bishop Amat is a good program. You tarnish the name. One more thing Coach Nolan won 3 undefeated championships in 5 years coaching and another thing he is poor because he trains almost everyone I know for free and he never had to forfeit games because CIF changed that ruling and sent apology letter to Coach. You should talk to people instead of just wasting your life doing internet surfing. Then you'd find out some truths about Nolan. You're just another fake fool hating on someone you jelous of.
"So a backup DB that starts one game in his career, and goes his Jr & Sr year without making a tackle"
Hey fool why make a lie up like that? That's dumb. Coach only played in the bowl game his junior year because of a pre-season ending injury. I have film of him smacking Ron Dane in that Bowl. I also have 4 games from his senior year and had he got a lot of big plays. Against BYU, he had 20 tackles. Coach Nolan is a role model to me and all my friends still playing.
Joe Amat's a hater and embarrasses to the SGV.
reality czech
Looks like someone hit a nerve.
I Love Bobby Boucher LOL
WTF cares about everyones "credentials"? WTF are you- or anybody for that matter. At least there are some of us that use the same name all the time so you know who to respond to - instead of using some assinine name or question as your "name"
just what i thought no balls
man up reality. you ignored my post about your credentials.
So Nolan is taking the high road but Joe Amat was hiding? You guys kill me!
maybe nolan is taking the high road and not responding to the donkeys on here. why respond to angry old men in their 50's? its a waste of time
reality: who are you? did you play at amat? what position did you play? what are your credentials? water boy perhaps?
and now that I went back to read it- it doesn't say JA was a DB anywhere. That was MPJ, who we all know and love! (but under a different name)
if we're being fair-wasn't Nolan a DB? Does HE have "small mans syndrome"?
And BTW-where IS Jimmy? everyone was calling out JA yesterday for not responding. Wheres Jimmy?Whys Nolan so quiet?Gets called out and disappears! Silence is golden!
Thats what it sounded like yesterday.
so joe amat was a DB in hs huh? well that explains " the small mans syndrome"
my pal joey: sounds like corona to me
Pal Joey, Get over yourself
AKA = Joe Amat
Try again LOL
Thanks for the heads up Ripvanwinkle....LEMME CORRECT MY MISTAKE BY REPOSTING IN RESPONSE TO "GET OVER YOUR SELF"
“Wonder how athletes, parents and recruiters got along BEFORE you existed? Matter of fact both you and Mike and many others NEVER HAD TRAINING FACILITIES AND YET PLAYED DIV I ...HOW? IT'S ONLY SPORTS!!!! Remember??? By the way I've always had this opinion of trainers, unless they do a portion of their services for free, is they are always self serving and financially compromised. How else can you explain those comments."
"Get Over Your self", I understand your point of view, but i must shed a new light for you since you only know what you read. As you know, most parents would be looking for priority #1: A university where their kid will get a good education and treated with respect with the addition and aide of a scholarship if available. Recruiters would do what’s in the best interest of the university. This is where guys like Jimmy Nolan are of great help. He prepares athletes for competition during and off season, so that they are always ready, in shape, and improving as athletes. He also helps to assist the athlete and their families to ensure they gets the best possible deal that is well suited for his/her academic and athletic career in college and/or after. Jimmy has been through this process many many times and for most kids and families they might only get once chance. Why not get help from an experienced person have during this crucial time and making sure they are not taken advantage of or end up in the wrong place for the wrong reasons....and this isn't even his job, he does it out of compassion for his athletes! I'm certain it’s better now then before with guys like Jimmy around, it just makes more sense.
Now, you speak about Jimmy and Mike going to D1 without the help of outside training camps and programs... Damn, I can only imagine what kind of beastly knowledge and abilities they would have had on top of their natural talents and extreme hard work ethics, being able to have experienced help, cut down the learning curve, and minimizing mistakes. That will catapult an athlete above the competition who just goes to practice, who wouldn't want that? I wasn’t a greatly gifted athlete and who cares about my credentials back in the day, but my extra training and hard work did help me improve a great deal and got me smarter then I was before. That’s a lot more then what regular team practice did and it worked out well for me. Also, to have someone who will help you during the college search process? It’s nice to know that someone’s got your back even after the season is over.
"Get Over Your self", You say "It's Just Sport"- Hmmm to many families out there its not just sports...it's an investment that hard work will pay off and when I mean pay off, it can/will pay for their child's education (reduce family financial stress) or give them many many life lessons of hard work, determination, commitment, along with many others. It may be fun, but when it comes down to it, it can be the key ingredient in getting that child into a school they want or need...Did I also mention while keeping them off the streets and out of gangs or trouble? If you look closely to Jimmy's work he provides many charitable contributions with NO financial gains....Success isn’t defined by how much money you make, but what you do with it and how you give back, He’s on the right Track!
"Get Over Your self": “Jimmy Nolan you're no longer in high school where muscle and athletic prowless are king. In the REAL WORLD no one cares who can beat up who. Get over your little part of the human experience.”
Its not just muscle and athletic prowess, it’s the use of that skill and mental execution of those abilities…In the REAL WORLD people do care about who can beat up on who, it’s how you beat them which counts. Physically, mentally, psychologically, financially, however the game is played there are winners and losers. People still care about “WHO CAN BEAT UP WHO” it’s just how its done which makes it different…
OK CORRECTIONS MADE!
Joe Amat
First of all, I think you are the only person EVER on this blog to come riding in on your white horse. Every day/year you come on this blog and slam people, leagues or divisions if they don’t agree, support or measure up to Amat. Ok, it’s your right, but let’s gets one thing straight; you are not the “Godfather” of advice!
Nolan is the only person who has the balls to post his real name and I hate to tell you Joey his credentials are pretty solid!
If you’re really “impressed with class, integrity, knowing, understanding, and following the rules”, then just maybe you should follow your own advise. Don’t you think so?
Let’s evaluate your class and integrity.. “But is he still bouncing around Canadian practice squads? In one sentence you praise him and the next you slam him.
Is this a back door jam or what? Last time I checked he was a stud All-American at SC; Detroit liked him until injury and now plays in Canada. Right now, enjoying the Calgary Rodeo waiting for practice to begin. Do you really think you’re slam is warranted. Nice Joe, your class impresses me.
If Jimmy feels the need to protect or support his student/athletes or in his case the professional athletes his does train, isn’t that his right? You surely let us know everything about the past present and future of the Amat Elite. Seems to me, you’re not following the rules, maybe just yours????
Next you claim the SGV Scouting service in not taking money from families, but who names are they using? Are they acting indirectly as their agent without permission or an ounce of integrity or credentials that can be checked out? Do schools subscribe to them and act as non-profit? Who’s making the money Joe? Who do they profit from? Pretty simple answer here!
Are kid’s really public bashings targets on this f- up blog? Shame on Fred and the Tribune for allowing this to happen...
GF4 comments are exactly right…
Joe I could go on and on, but what’s the point, you think you have it all wired.
My Pal Joey,
A friend of mine likes to say, "The cream rises to the top." No exclamation point necessary.
That was without a doubt the nasiest piece of "good" advice I've ever read. I finally figured out who you are, or at least who you might be....either way if I ever get on your bad side ...give me a head's up OKAY?...LOL
Wow Jimmy, the ball is in your court. I had a coach who said after a corner jumped the route and got burned..."Hey you gambed and you lost...MOVE ON NO EXCUSES!" As a former DB you should take that advice. If that's not enough I had another coach who was fond of telling us that decisions are like the spoken word..."Once the words leave your mouth you can never take them back...so think before you do. And KNOW the play/count/assignment before you get to the line (get the point?)"
Picking a fight with Joey was a bad move. Don't you agree? And Get Over Yourself...gave you an easy out that you bit on and Joey took you for 6! I know that didn't feel good....still laughing? Corners...they'll never learn.
Joey I think you bring up a good point about the DIV I syndrome. It's over played. Boise State vs Oklahoma proved that. Or better yet ask Llyod Carr about App. State and the beat down at Ann Arbor. ( Quick joke...Michigan friends tell me the best rival sign he ever read at The Big House was...ANN ARBOR IS A WHORE!) LOL...see Jimmy...it's only sports..relax, tough guy)
I think so many parents put so much emphasis on college thru sports when they should think about getting into the best school possible thru academics. I knew a player who went to Nevada to "continue the dream"...what happened? He got sent home after he realized how poorly coached he was in high school....after 1 season. Al CIF, ALL League, ALL Valley strong, quick, discipline , courageous, great size and an outstanding individual and team leader. So coaching fundamentals matters more than SPEED TRAINING routines and shuttle times IF I had to choose one over the other. Players are players and "almost" don't cut it. Don't you agree?
Parents and Players are putting so much tme and energy, and certainly MONEY, into trainers when QUALITY COACHES is really all you need. Think about Marinovich...enginering athletes DOESN"T WORK..apologies to Adam Archuleta. He might be the exception that PROVES the rule.
Final word, and only one man's opinion. The reason why trainers are having such an impact in today's sports scene is twofold.
1) Lack of quality position coaches.
2) Lack of perspective by the parents and players.
No one can handle the truth anymore and trainers delay that moment when the truth is undeniable. You're too small, too slow, too raw, too unskilled, lack this /lack that...just not good enough. Yet parents INSIST/PERSIST that their kid will make it. Nothing wrong Jimmy with getting run over on the field...what matters not getting up. Talk is cheap. Don't believe the hype...as always...THE CREAM RISES TO THE TOP!
Jimmy the goal is not to be a Div I athlete but to be the best that you can be WHILE helping your team win. IF you're good enough...they'll find you. I heard that from every coach I ever had...AND ALL RE LEGENDARY. Never underestimate the heart of a champion and never pick a fight with someone who's going to hand you your lunch. Remember the beatdwn you seek the hardest is the beatdown you'll never forget.
Fight over! My Pal Joey by a knockout in the fourth! Just when you were feeling your oats Jimmy...experience dropped you with one thunderous short right to the chin...BANG! Lights out!
Hey Joey...how's our buddy?
i had dinner with george bush the other day and we were laughing at what a donkey joe amat is and how he is full of sh**

Uh, Dude, learn how to decipher who said what on the blog. You've responded to the wrong auhor.

Uh, Dude, learn how to decipher who said what on the blog. You've responded to the wrong auhor.
You forget Jimmy, that Amat has many ties to the OC after years in your league (while you were just an MD pup), developed friendships and relationships along the way that we keep in touch with, have alumni that are athletic directors and coaching in South OC, near Laguna, know coaches well from the HB/FV area, and we are in the *Camino Del Rey Association* which includes all schools from the Del Rey League and the Camino Real League, of which Cantwell is a member. So don't for one second think that, while I don't KNOW you...I know OF you. The price of "fame" I guess - right Jimmy?
Let's not kid ourself Jimmy - you were advertising. You introduced yourself with this- EXACTLY:
"My name is Jimmy Nolan. I have a speed/agility program and also work with student/athletes getting to the next level...been doing this for 10 years. In a nutshell, here's the facts: (1)you NEVER need to attend a college, Nike, Sparq, or any other camp to attain a scholarship...feel free to call me on this 714-981-8351"
Then you left the link to your website.
Sounds like an ad to me...how about you Jimmy?
But remember how we started, Jimmy. even after your *advertisement* I supported your opinion and suggested coaches look into your program. Tried to give you plug, buddy. And had nothing against you...really. You have a right to do what you do. And I'm sure many truly appreciate your good work.
But then you and your boys had to get testy. Now like many that donned the Blue & Gold I played with pros, then coached some pros, and many others that went D1 or received scholarships. Maybe close to the 70 that you proclaim - never really that self-absorbed to count - but could if I took some time. So I know the difference between pros and joes. Many players and families still ask for advice, so I keep up on rules & things, and who does what. I've never had a player ruled ineligible, lost a year, forfeited any games, or accepted any transfers without FIRST calling his old coach. So don't for one second think that, while I don't KNOW you...I know OF you.
So you see Jimmy, the D1 thing doesn't quite impress me as much as it might some others. What impresses me is class, integrity, knowing, understanding and making CERTAIN that we are following the rules. I now FAR too many quality coaches to think that THAT really makes a difference. Since we're talking and you're into name dropping about your boy Groot - I had dinner a few weeks ago with Mike Belotti. Heard of him. Pretty good coach at the University of Oregon? Our daughters actually competed against each other at some camps. Didn't play D1. At the dinner with us was Paul Hackett -recognize him too? We had some laughs about his days at 'SC with some former Lancers. Same D2 school. As was Dan Hawkins at Colorado and Chris Peterson at Boise St. None at D1. So a backup DB that starts one game in his career, and goes his Jr & Sr year without making a tackle does not impress me a bit. So don't for one second think that, while I don't KNOW you...I know OF you.
The fact that you come riding in on your "White Horse" to save the day from the evil "sgv recruiting guru" who had the nerve to give an opinion which is exactly what others are wondering about one of your "innocent" players is very admirable. This "guru" has never posted his name or number and is clearly not out to play "recruiting agent" between anybody or make a dime off of any parents. No one knows him, yet you all find it perfectly acceptable to slam his integrity or opinion. And he's not trying to make a dime off of any of you. Even though trainers/coache/recruiting services have every right to. IMO - the HS coach should be doing that. We did - and I expect the new Lancer staff to do so too.
So keep doing what you do. I hear good things about the success of your training. Really. Some good things about how hard you work, too. Keep it up. Kids seem to like you - that's good. The other stuff - take my advice - or not. Write what you want on this blog to save face and be a tough guy - thats OK. You're a smart guy, deep down, you know what will serve you best in the long term.

Ripvanwinkle: “Jimmy Nolan you're no longer in high school where muscle and athletic prowless are king.
People still care about “WHO CAN BEAT UP WHO” it’s just how its done which makes it different…
write what you want, but that's all i have to say.
get over yourself
Why shouldnt trainers be paid for their services? Does your boss ask you to work for free? And all athletes are public property?? Since when is a high school kid who plays sports public property? You need to think a little more before you post stupid comments like that. You must be related to the amat program.
nolan. dont mind that last donkey. Just keep doing what your doing. Defending yourself on a blog is like two retards fighting. No matter who wins at the end they both are still retarded.
"Get Over Your Self"
Now you've done it. If you don't know the man personally (Jimmy Nolan), then don't try to understand his motives. As far as a "free", or "charitable" side to Jimmy's work, the athlete's, and their workout(s) come first. At the end of every session Jimmy will ask the athlete's, and parents to make payment, BUT he will always deal specially with an athlete who has financial problems, and can't make payment(s). His dedication to the athlete is unsurpassed. Even at his own expense.
"Get Over Your Self,"
That comment was awesome...truly had me laughing. You're extremely intelligent and witty. Kudos.
Please remember I came on this board to defend a innocent high school student/athlete.
Again, your post was good...funny stuff man.
-Jimmy
amen to silence. joe amat only chooses that option when someone calls him out.
Silence, coming from an amat blogger, is truly golden.
Mr. Nolan,
I find it odd that someone who has the passion and commitment to high school sports would come on here and make such boorish comments.
"maybe Nico ran over your kid" ? You're probably a better trainer than the person you're coming across like here. I thought of checking your place out but wouldn't want my son around a person that makes that comment no matter how noble your defense is of Nico.
Nico is a great athlete with tremendous heart and doesn't need to be put out like that. This is a blog. People comment. ALL ATHLETES become public property. You should know that. Doesn't make it right but coming on here and slamming hard working kids with less talent that get "run over by Nico (or one of YOUR athletes)" is juvenile.
Now you're in a tizzy with Joe Amat but slam EVERY BLOGGER ON HERE? Why? Remember the nature of your business is selling a "pipe dream" and much like "crack" it can be addictive and cause people to lose sight of life's PRIORITIES. The best ALWAYS have a shot..with or without your help. Your service like many others give the borderline athletes a leg up and the sure fire ones an edge because they SHOW COMMITMENT AND A GREAT WORK ETHIC. And of course a feather i your cap. Wonder how athletes, parents and recruiters got along BEFORE you existed? Matter of fact both you and Mike and many others NEVER HAD TRAINING FACILITIES AND YET PLAYED DIV I ...HOW?
IT'S ONLY SPORTS!!!! Remember???
By the way I've always had this opinion of trainers, unless they do a portion of their services for free, is they are always self serving and financially compromised. How else can you explain those comments. Jimmy Nolan you're no longer in high school where muscle and athletic prowless are king. In the REAL WORLD no one cares who can beat up who. Get over your little part of the human experience. Best of luck to Nico and any other athlete who is willing to pay the price to get better and just ignore the moron that came on the blog and hijacked James Nolan adulthood.
Good day sir.
funny how joe amat goes silent when called out. Where are you joe and where are your credentials??
what a cocky response. You must be getting by in your business inspite of your attitude
To all,
It seems to me that the parents passionate enough about the valleys sports seem to visit this blog more than the local Vons, so this is just another avenue of marketing that will help out.
Prices are definately comparable and cheaper than any top notch training facility (velocity sports, API, RM and Riekes) and the training possibly better. I would venture to guess that Optimal Training is more closely related to those FACILITIES more than any one person at a High school.
I've also retained about every client and every person that has tried my program, hence you thinking the program was easy (blogger), is very unlikely. I have many of the top players in this valley, past and present, and other professional athletes all around who feel the same.
If this blog is that important to you that my 12 lines of writing takes up some valuable writing space then I apologize, but fact is that with all the BA,LA bickering, they would be most likely to see. They also happen to be very close to my facility.
I Forgot to mention that I have 2 facilities, Hacienda Heights and now gathered enough pennies to open one in Upland (brand new). So trust me, my clientell isn't too shabby.
My athletes can also use my facility an Unlimited amount.
Again there is no need to batter the program down because I took up your blog space and if $200-$300 is too expensive for you than go buy a sparq packet from eastbay.
just another gutless creepy old man
lmfaooooooooooo nolan? you are the man. what a great line!!
"reality czech,"
No sir, NOT advertising. Not once did I mention the name of my company.
I've only left my phone number to help any parents understand how recruiting works...not looking for one cent...parents not knowing about the whole recruiting process need to be educated ~ so they don't feel obligated to take their son to a camp or combine after reading this self-proclaimed "recruiting guru's" nonsense.
This "nameless" guy on here calls himself a "recruiting guru" and has the nerve to act as a middleman recruiting agent for athletes in the SGV...but of course a "nameless" guy has no integrity...thus, anything he writes carries no weight...in addition, there are no D1 schools that will use another one of these cattle call so-called recruiting services...hence, this guy's still just another fake with no name, getting his kicks slamming innocent high school athletes ~ hoping to feel important.
...and to set the record straight, in addition to speed/agility, I am a recruiting service to my athletes; I don't charge a penny more for it...over 70 of my athletes have received full or partial scholarships in the past 8 years.
Joe Amat:
please don't act like you know me...just another gutless creepy old man ~ googling names to pass the time throughout your pathetic hidden-identity life, behind the security of your computer screen.
Desperate Bobby. Economy is tough I know, we are in a recession but to come on a blog and Pimp you business is a all time low. Hit the pavement and knock on some doors like a real salesman does it. Let see free advertisement here on this blog. VONS has tritip for $2.99 a pound and Johnny's Shrimp Boat is buy one get one free. Bobby you are loser and so is your program.
reality whats your real name? Hiding behind some moniker is chicken **** dont call our others unless you have the BALLS to post your real name
CO Rules, Real footballer, Go OC, and rode the pine-I'm guessing that those must be the given names on your birth certificates -right?Nolan's the only one putting his name here-but of course he's advertising.
hey joe incase you missed it "joe amat where did you play football at? tell us your credentials"
Man up and tell us where you played that you have all of this knowledge. I am guessing you rode the pine in HS
Bobby,
What are your prices? Some say your really expensive. Like $300 to $400 a month per kid.
Jimmy Nolan charges only $200.00 a month. With a good amount of training involved.
Bobby | June 2, 2008 7:15 AM
Bobby, you need to find a better advertsing form.
By the way, tried your program and its not very good at all..
Hey Fred,
What's the deal with the free advertising space in the Trib Blog? (Optimal Sports Training)
What's next? Click through banners to adult web sites?
How about Haddicks Towing, and Body on Valley Blvd? I'm sure they could use a free shout out.
Or, Boca Del Rio Tacos on Hacienda...
Joe Amat and Mike has no balls to intro themselves because they can't produce a resume of value in football.
Just BS everyday on this SGV Blog!
Like someone said Joe, "you’re a disgrace to the SGV"

Nice backpeddling Joe. Let me guess, you played a little cornerback in high school?
Look, if the only compliments your inflated ego can stand to give, are backhanded, why bother?
Joe Amat
you wrote:

Hey Mike
If your a legit D1 guy, put you're real name on here, then we'll research you to see if you really have any knowledge of what you are talking about.
Doubtful you played anywhere..
Yeah you are right GO OC! I didn't play D-1 haha
Joe is good man
Wow, must be one of his fans sucking a--.
The guys a bum and needs to understand some are just tired of his advise or should we say s---. Most of us don't need it or ask for it, but he seems hell bent on given it!
NEXT!
I'll say it one more time...I have Barbone as a prospect and if you had read my comments on the kid, we said that Senior Film was going to be huge on the kid.
And in talking with the all the schools that subscribe to us, they've said the same thing. Do I think he has the potential to play at the D-1 level? Yes.
Let's just waiting and see until his senior year. And believe me, we will be doing our research on the kid. We will be watching him in passing league and will make sure that we get his film from his first two games of the year next season, so that we can take a look at him and send the film out the schools.
He's among a big group of players that need serious senior film evaluation next year.
I wish the kid the best.
Joe Amat,
Your an decent man that advocates for many of the young men in our Valley today and have such a vast knowledge of former athletes in our Valley that anyone criticizing you has no real understanding of you or the game because you never mean any harm but are straight forward that unfortunately in today's world doesn't appeal to selfish, greedy men like the ones attacking you. Note to you Joe Amat though and that is I would put SGV Recruiting in the same category as these other narcissistic personalities.
Jimmy,
To answer your question, Yes I did Play D-1 Football, so I do know what D-1 speed means and looks like. I said Barbone was a very good HS player but I was just told exactly what I thought, that he did not have the speed to play at that level. the kid is a stud, don't get me wrong, but again he plays in the SGV and in the VVL. There are just not many athletes of that caliber in this area.
joe amat where did you play football at? tell us your credentials
Joe Amat
Here's some advise for you.. Where's your game?
I'll see his dad tomorrow, and we'll laugh at the fact it doesn't matter today, because Matt is doing fine and making the bucks while enjoying the game even if its in Canada.
What a loser Joe!
easy, footballer, easy!
Now I see it's not the cerveza - it must be 'roid rage!
And after all those nice things I said about Monarch Matty like,
"HS stud"..."classic college overachiever"......"one of my favorite Trojans"..... "If you say Barbone can be the next Groot - good luck to him - I hope so."
I thought I was being nice. Not nearly as malicious as "money-making", "jealous", waste-of-time", or "ignorant". so I offered some advice.
Here's some for you. Go ask your boy Mater Dei Matt if he was faster when he was an 18 year old 185lb stud runningback, as a 212lb SS at USC or the 220+ player today trying to latch on at back end of his career?
Then report back. Nicely.
phony footballer,
What negative thing did I say - that wasn't repeating what Jimmy said?
Where did I accuse ANYONE of being a recruiter?
You sound a little sensitive, i think.
When was South Hills mentioned at all?
Now lay off the Sunday cerveza and read it again when you're sober.
And one more thing Joey...
If you have something negative to say about Matt.. Man up or step up to his face and make your dumb ass comments.
When was the last time you were an All American at Sc or played professionally?
At least Matt is trying to get back to NFL. Oh yeah Detroit really didn’t like him.
Joe Amat
You're a disgrace to the footballers in the SGV.
If it isn't about Amat, you have nothing positive to say and continue to try and give people your BS advice.
Jimmy is helping alot of kids out this way and teaches them alot about the system.
Doesn't make him a recruiter or a blow hard from South Hills, but who is really on the gridiron with these kids? Jimmy Nolan..
Great guy and one that really enjoys working with kids to make them better!
Lastly, what are you doing? Been on a training field lately or just an old man coaching from the stands!
Get back on the baseball board because you’re making no sense here also!
Agreed with what he had to say, suggested others look into his program, wished him luck, and offered him some advice?!? So no problem at all.
Cantwell? hhhmmmm?
Joe Amat
Nobody wants to here your amat biased, blowhard, opinion. And, if you have some problem with Jimmy, just come out, and say it. Don't beat around the bush with some threatening innuendo. Balls up, and speak your feeble little mind, or STFU.
Guys,
Nolan says some good things about recruiting and the difference between "game speed" and "combine speed".
We've had our share of USC skill players and some performed subpar on the clock - yet had good careers as Trojans. even if they couldn't "ruun down Reggie Bush".
So if you have a HS player or team, you'd be well served to take a look and listen to Nolan's program and his emphasis on speed over bulk.
BUT ...
Jimmy, a suggestion...
Stay away from the holier than thou, pompous approach. It won't serve you well in the long term. Trust me. ("...did you play D1 - I did...", and "...the ignorant kind you all write about..."). Bill Belichick didn't play D1 and things worked out OK for his coaching career. I guess he evaluates talent alright. Not ONE member of the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff played a minute in the NBA and they do just fine.
Sometimes someone may not have the same background but with some work and attention they can figure things out. It works all over the place - even in boxing...right, Jimbo? So ease up a bit. You know what they say about glass houses, and skeletons in your closet and all that stuff? We don't want to go there do we?
And I know you want to plug your boy and you have confidence in him - that's good - I hope he makes it. But what you are hearing here, you've certainly heard before from others...yes? While "Ghost" was a HS stud and a classic college overachiever, boasting that Nico beat him in a race at this point in Grootegoeds career is a bit of a reach. That's like having Rodney Sermons (you guys had some good match-ups) race some of our guys. They better beat him. I know Matt is your FV homie, but is he still bouncing around Canadian practice squads? He was one of my favorite Trojans, but hardly a feather in Nico's cap. If you say Barbone can be the next Groot - good luck to him - I hope so.
And I thought that you were a training program - not a "recruiting service? (there's the other kind (mine) that focuses on "football speed.")
Jimmy, not enough people in the SGV really know about you and your program, so remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression.
Good luck out here...really
1st and foremost:
Nico, keep up the good work. You've created a lot of jealousy on this message board. That is a good sign...means you are doing great things ~ "If they ain't talking about you, you ain't done anything."
I train Nico. Is he the type of athlete I'd send to the money-making-propaganda "scouting combines?" I BEG all of my athletes to stay FAR AWAY from these waste-of-time camps/risks.
(1)unless you are "Tommy Cogburn fast", these combines will do nothing but hurt your reputation.
(2)Very often a D1 prospect feels obligated to attend one of these camps, because of ignorant message boards like this one...the prospect might have a bad day and then is crossed off all the big-time college recruiting lists. Had the prospect stayed away from these "recruiting camps," the recruiters would have been forced to "watch his game film" and decide based on his "football talent", rather than his "combine talent."
(3)Nico might do very well at one of these "recruiting camps," but shouldn't take that "risk."
Right now Nico's right where he wants to be ~ under the microscope of many big-time college recruiters. If Nico performs well this year and STAYS HEALTHY, he will be offered a scholarship.
Does Nico have D1 speed? Who on this board really understand what "D1 SPEED" is? Unless Nico wants to play corner or receiver in college, he's perfectly fine... most of you watch USC every weekend and think if a kid can't run down Reggie Bush, he can't go D1...
A few months ago, Nico raced and beat one of my athletes. His name is Matt Grootegoed...anyone remember that guy? Was he D1? He was a great running back at Mater Dei...maybe you'd remember him.
Nico trains alongside many of my D1 college kids and fits right in. But unlike many of my boys already signed at D1 colleges, Nico has something more: tremendous strength, second-to-none TOUGHNESS, durability, and can play many positions. A college will take a guy like Nico and make him an outside linebacker or strong safety, IF he doesn't fit in their offense. His grades are extremely admirable and his overall character will improve any college program's leadership.
People that go after an athlete like Nico on this board probably have had their child run over by Nico...or maybe their child helped gang-tackle Nico one time, leading dad to say, "my boy owned Barbone, there's no way he should be D1."
Either way, it's all ironic, because the more ink on Nico, the better his chances of getting a free college education.
...just curious...
You guys slamming Nico saying he can't go D1 or 1AA...did you play at the D1 level?
I did...Nico would have fit right in at U of Utah.
One of you guys earlier posted that there are two types of recruting services...true:
(1)there's the ignorant kind you all write about focusing on "combine speed"
(2) there's the other kind (mine) that focuses on "football speed."
I'd rather have "football speed" (and so would the college recruiters)
Football is about football...not about a silly combine.
Stay away from the combines. Perform on Friday nights. get yourself some gamefilm.
Once college is over, give me a call...then we'll get ready for your combine...
-Jimmy Nolan

Mike
I guess our coach wouldn't be talking about the calls he received last week for nothing. Oh and by the way, two of them were from the MWC. Call Coach Z if you are really that concerned.
Size, strength, speed and the multi position player is why he has interest.
Saints,
I am not believing what I read on this blog. I heard this directly from a Division 1 college football coach. I believe Nico is a very good high school football player, but he just does not have the speed to compete at the D-1 level. Sorry, but I do not believe your coach is "keeping it under raps for obvious reasons". That is BS. In the time of early commitments and players leaving high school early, there is no reason to hide anything. He may be a Div. 2 type player or possibly D-1AA and that is a very big maybe. Good luck to him and the Saints this year. They should be the favorites in the VVL.
Mike
Dont believe everything you hear or read especially on this blog. Nico has alot of interests and our coach is keeping it under raps for obvious reasons....
I heard from a coach from the Mountain West Conference that Barbone from San Dimas looks the part but just does not have D-1 speed. He should be able to play somewhere after HS but it's not D-1...probably not D-1AA either.
sgv scouting,
You seem to have some good information. I know a couple other boys that have been offered at Diamond Ranch.... Do you know who they are and do you know the colleges that have offered?
any news from south hills?
Joe Amat
Apparently Mr. Nolan puts it into proper content.
1. Game Film
2. Character
3. Grades
This clown from South Hills has NEVER coached a down of football. I doubt very seriously that any coach would offer a player because of this guy reporting service.
Seems he might be trying to indirectly use kids/names for his own end result! Which is what?
Give it a break,
There are two types of scouting services. Those that, for a fee, say they help student/athletes match with colleges (these are often suspect, and as Nolan says, unnecessary if you know the ropes). The other is a service that colleges use to locate and identify potential recruits.
By not going public, it's obvious that sgv scouting guru is the latter - and in reality would somewhat defeat the purpose by going public - as that is when it's hard to draw the line between what type of service you want to be.
Because he's not after kids/parents money, I say let him blog away and provide info (at least as, if not more, accurate and certainly more extensive than we'd provide). It provides great conversation starters - and after all, isn't that what a blog is?
I've received a few calls to take a look at this message board regarding "SGV SCOUTING GURU"...My name is Jimmy Nolan. I have a speed/agility program and also work with student/athletes getting to the next level...been doing this for 10 years. In a nutshell, here's the facts: (1)you NEVER need to attend a college, Nike, Sparq, or any other camp to attain a scolarship...feel free to call me on this 714-981-8351 (2)college recruiters offer scholarships based on GAME FILM...once they like your game film, they will research your character and make sure you have solid academics (3)the only time you'll ever need to run a 40 or perform in a "combine" is after college, if you are trying to get somewhere professionally. Feel free to call or email for any advice.

sgv scouting
Dude, you really need to give it a rest!
When are you going to verify your company!
What scouting service isnt public? Check out the real sevices out there and you'll see, you are way behind...
Would really love to investigate your credentials. Anybody can call a recruiter and ask questions..
Final thought, to the person who two weeks ago told me that Barbone got offered by Boise St...I've got some bad news for you.
According to a very good source, Barbone has not been offered by Boise St. And the source that I contacted happens to be very good source. He is the recruiting coordinator at Boise St.
It's always good to know people in high places...
Tell Gilmore and Vega to take a look at Northview. They are definitely on the up and up! Lost their top 2 tailbacks and with the coaches run 1st philosophy, that would be a great place for them!!!
Tough question in regards to Gilmore. Personally, I don't see him leaving Wilson. He's loyal to the school and there is something to be said for that.
Plus with the rules regarding transfers, it's going to be difficult for him and his family to afford to move to another house.
I don't like telling kids that they should be doing this or that...makes it sound like i am a sports agent and that is not my job. He has to take a look at his situation and see if he is comfortable where is at.
I hope things get a lot better over at Wilson...
As far as Vega goes, if he opts. out, he will go to LA. Hoyd doesn't have much talent to work with and he can't put Vega at the fullback spot. Vega hasn't committed to Wilson, but getting the starting varsity spot at Wilson is about the only thing keeping him there. Vega may start at LA, but it would be at wide receiver or corner?
I SEE 3 NEW FACES AT WEST COVINA AND IF THE QB FROM LOS ALTOS COMES OVER HE WILL BE THE 4TH. ONE OF THE KIDS WANTED TO COME TO WEST COVINA BECAUSE HE WANTED TO PLAY AGAINST BISHOP AMAT. IF THE QB FROM LOS ALTOS COMES OVER HE WILL SEE LOS ALTOS IN GAME 5. WEST COVINA IS GOING TO BE A VERY STRONG TEAM. FRED WEST COVINA IS GOING TO PLAY BLAIR HS FROM PASADENA WEEK 2 WHATS THE SCOOP WITH THAT SCHOOL. HAVE A NICE DAY YO ALL....
GRI,
30 kids at Wilson practices? He sure does have his hands empty.
About Gilmore being used at fullback. Sure he can play the position but pretty much that would be down grading him. Sorry to hear that they would be blowing away scholarship offers from elite schools, that I think he has the potential of getting. That sucks for him. Great talent, wrong team for sure.
I thought Vega would be using the new CIF rule and transfer out of Wilson. Sounds like staying at Wilson is not the place to be.
If he did transfer where would he end up?
Question for you sgv scouting, you are the parents of a player like Gilmore on a team like Wilson. Do you stick with the team or do you move on to give your child a better chance at a scholarship? Based on your comments Gilmore is going to have a real tuff time getting a football scholarship on that Wilson team.
ConqofOld,
I have lots of info on Hoyd and didn't really share much of it due to its very negative nature. To be honest with you the talk around Wilson is the guy is half way out the door already.
The majority of his staff is coming from Tustin’s Pop Warner Pee Wee team. This team won the National Championship last year. The comments coming out of Orange County Register blog is this team is being investigated by Regional for cheating. I am being told that they had a high school freshmen and a bunch of kids that are going to be freshmen this year. When questioned about it and asked for original birth certificates the coach and players refused. They told regional they are all moving on to high school. Those are the coaches that are over at Wilson coaching at this time. Hoyd was the defense's coordinator on that team.
A little on Hoyd, he has never been a head coach at any level, he has been coaching for six years and has coached at six different schools in the six years. The ring the guy talks about having is the ring he got on the Pee Wee team that cheated. From what I am being told the guy is more worried about getting his coaches more money to coach than coaching the kids. He has at most 30 kids at spring practice. Just about all the quality freshmen are going to play midget ball or going to LA. It doesn’t look good for Wilson next year.
Who I feel sorry for is Gilmore, such a great player and is going to have no support next year. To date no quarterbacks are returning and Hoyd plans on using Gilmore as a fullback and Vega, the freshmen at tailback.
SGV SCOUTING
Spare us your report until you can verify your worth!
At this point you're just a fan and blogger!
We will have some stuff for you in a couple of weeks after we view the scout.com combine this weekend.
Plus we will be at the various camps for the next couple of weeks watching some of the top talent in the area.
Some news...you can now count Arizona State into the Sermons sweepstakes. They offered the prospect earlier this week.
The GURU has been quite lately.
Honerable GURU. In a goal line third and inches situation. Who do you like in the middle to stop the potential rush. There are some pretty good MLB' in the valley
Jhykron:
My bad. Was thinking of the incoming summer freshman. (Which my son is one of)
GRI:
Took my son to a couple of the (Saturday) West Football Camps that were held over at Wilson this past month. I was surprised by the rather small turnout by the Wilson players themselves. Hoyd sure has his work cut out for him.
I will give him credit though. He is starting a youth football camp run through the high school for 3rd-8th graders in the summer. Youth (recruiting) camps are big in the OC where Hoyd came from. Los Altos should be doing the same thing. (among other things)
That number (90) looks a little high based on what I have seen, but not to far off. I will say it is a lot higher than Wilson; Coach Hoyd has around 30 kids showing up to spring practice, that's his numbers. I heard from the kids the numbers are even lower than that. Based on the way Coach Hoyd is taking care of business they may need to dress the freshmen team to get the numbers. The kids don’t want to play for him!!!
West Covina Resident QB Lefty Longoria of Los Altos is considering Going over to the Bulldogs of West Covina to QB them. With Shirley looking to be a baseball player only the job is open and he and dad are intrested.
ConqofOld:
Ummm... "freshman orientation" has nothing to do with Spring Ball. That's 90 kids attending the school right now.
GRI:
As long as Fair has the O-line, that has considerable influence on the running game. Not to mention he has his hand in punt and kickoff.
BTW, a lot of people have been babbling that a bunch of kids were transfering out. Maybe not you, but check the blog archives.
Jhykron,
You are correct in saying that he didn't ask any coaches to leave. He did ask certain coaches to step down from their current position and coach at the lower levels. Then two of them left to other programs.
As far as Fair is concerned, I was told only defense and that he isn’t really on board with the new philosophy. The comment was his way worked in the past why chance it.
I don’t think anyone has stated that there is a mass exit, a matter a fact we are hoping that some of the kids that quit in the past will be welcomed back. At the time they were told that if they quit they can’t come back. I believe that this may have already been cleared up.
"3. There are 90 (!) kids out for Spring ball this year."
Putting your name on a piece of paper during freshman orientation is not the same as stepping on the grass in June.
Would love to see it, but I'm just saying...
Would love to have seen Lambchop develop through the years. Great potential.
LA fans,
Wow. A -lot- of misinformation here.
Where to start:
1. Aguilar is running the show, for better or worse. He hit the ground running taking the job and is calling the shots.
2. There is no "overhaul" of the coaching staff... as far as I know all coaches still on Gano's staff when he stepped down were welcome to stay on. Most did, a couple decided not to. -Their- decision.
Anyway, you aren't going to see a radically different philosophy on the field... if nothing else Fair still coaches on both sides of the ball.
3. There are 90 (!) kids out for Spring ball this year.
4. If there are a bunch of kids leaving, they must be planning on bailing over the summer. The only losses I'm aware of are Lambchop and Porkchop moving out of state, and the other big guy on the Freshmen going to South Hills or Basset or wherever.
5. Jeremy: Good luck to your brother and his friend.
Los Altos Coach Aguilar...well (see Coach Mark Verti Bishop Amat)..trust me Gano will be back as soon as Daddy's Girl Graduates.
Conq Nation,
I have been supporting Los Altos since the 1960’s. I am anti-recruiting aka anti-Gano. You recruit a kid as a freshman and coach him up through you system, no problem. You recruit a kid as a senior to take a spot away from a senior from within your system is wrong. If that is what it takes to be successful then you failed as a head coach. COACH Aguilar has made a point of expressing that he will be coaching up these kids. He is making every attempt to hire quality coaches. I personally support every move that COACH Aguilar has made and will continue to support him.
“It’s not whether you win or loss, it how you play the game.”
GRI,
all this time I thought that you were anti-LA, but it seems that you are anti-Gano. Are you an LA minus Gano fan?
I hope Aguilar can hold on to the talent that has been showing up and leaving these last few years.
Joe,
I have some inside information on the coaching over at LA. If you haven't noticed most of the recruiting/coaches are gone at LA. Coach Aguilar has let go most of Gano's recruiting staff and is building a coaching staff. The traditional LA coaches are the ones he kept for the most part. As he says “I am going to coach the kids up”.
I hear the comments that Coach Aguilar is Gano’s puppet and is holding Gano’s spot for the next three years while he coaches his daughter at LA. To be honest with you based on the moves Coach Aguilar has been making I don’t see that. He is letting everyone know that this is his team and he is in full control. If the parents and the students back him up I think he is going to do a great job.
I personally have seen this kid you are talking about play for a few years in JAA and Pop Warner and sorry to say I totally agree with you. He is a pretty boy that doesn't want to get dirty with a dad that you can find 6 inches from the head coach at all times. The word from the kids was that Longoria is now the top quarterback. Coach Aguilar wants to do what is best for LA, so give him a chance I think he is going to do a great job.
Hey SGV GURU SCOUTING,
good luck on your travels. I'd love to hear your updates on the Combine. I'll be in Las Vegas so I'll miss the combine, although I've never gone to one I hear they really do separate those that can from those that need a couple of years at a JC/CC. The reason I never go is it's painful to watch the pretenders getting exposed and the so called superstars making excuses for their poor showings. I heard alot of that last year at the ALL STAR practices but still enjoyed seeing the cream rise to the top. As it usually does.
It's funny that so many people hate on you, dismiss you or WORST ask for your credenials and yet make outlandish comments on local players, coaches and programs without any game film, practice eye witnessing or credentials themselves. BUt hey for the true fan of the game you're been a real improvement for this blog.
Keep up the good work.
I know that they are few and far between, but thanks for some to some of you for the kind words.
I will be on the road for the next couple of weeks. This weekend is the scout.com combine/camp at Home Depot Center...I am going to be looking at a lot of guys for the first time since the spring season.
Then their is college camp season for many of the prospects. I highly encourage a prospect on going to a camp...it will only help your exposure and you'll get an idea what it's like at a college program.
Hope to see you at passing league tournaments, camps or combines. Should be a fun summer.
One last thing, I was able to confirm that Diamond Ranch's Sermons was offered by Oregon last week. Two Pac-10 offers...interesting!
Take care!

Go away until you get some credentials that can be certified!
sgv Guru scouting,
Thanks for looking into my question. Really excited to read what your take will be regarding those athletes.
By the way I really respect your effort to give bloggers/athletes and parents an honest assessment of the athlete skills and areas to improve. More importantly it gives everyone a better sense of he RECRUITING WARS that take place.
Keep up the good work and thanks for breaking it down. Your work/passion really shows.
Fred, who is the new coach at Nogales? What is the story there?
Bullock always brought the wood, now so are his boys at SD.
Fred:
Looking forward to a "FRESH" thread.
By the way, leave SGV Scouting at home next week.
Sorry for not having a football thread this past Monday, it was a holiday and I've got seven teams left in the semifinals in softball and baseball, so we'll take a week off and be back next week, sorry.
We found out Saturday evening...I think this is a tremendous pick up for the Bruins. We are true to our board and Brehaut was graded a bit higher than Nunes (not by very much).
We love Brehaut's upside and the Bruins are on their way to having a great recruiting class. And I really don't see Nunes going to Florida. I just don't think it's a scheme fit for him. But, Meyer was able to work with Alex Smith and make it happen, so anything is possible.
As far as the two players from Amat from last year, I loved Ochoa! He played real well in the game against Loyola and I know that Idaho
St. was looking at him real closely. If he is planning on going to a JC, he is a kid that can start right away. Very athletic!
SGV Scouting-
It's being reported that Brehaut was offered by UCLA nd accepted . Is that what you have heard, too? If true, bummer for the Nunes famly because I know they wanted UCLA but he has a lot of great alternatives to pick from.
I also played with Bullock. Good player, Big Hitter! Didn't know he was still in the area, thought I heard we was in the military. Gives me a reason to keep an eye on San Dimas now.
I went to school and played with Bullock and talked to somebody that saw him recently and he said several former football players and C.O. alumni are on San Dimas's coaching staff. Big Lou's staff of however many years has developed a larger number of coaches throughout the Valley and beyond at high schools, colleges, and I think even the professional level..?
Agree with cmments about Peri 6' 4,245, and Williams,6'3 255. but thats not all think about Allen trowing to Kiley and returning Oline and Dline.Plus Adam and new back tearing up Miramont Lg
SD Loyal,
What's Bullock's first name. Did he play at Charter Oak?
SGV Scouting,
What about Ochoa (OT) & Silva (TE/DE) from Amat ? Any interest out there ?
This blog is a joke it has screwed up high school football in sgv thanks tribune.
This blog is a joke it has screwed up high school football in sgv thanks tribune.
I've checked the San Dimas football website, and didn't see Schuster on it. Says Lopez, and Bullock are Co-Defensive Coordinators. I know both these guys, and they do a hell of a job coaching the kids, and are great mentors! My son tells me there are a few new coaches, maybe one of them is Schuster. Regardless, we feel very good about our team this year! Go Get 'Em Saints!!!!
There are about six lineman in the IE that schools have mentioned to us that they want to have senior film sent to them right away...so the attention is there, they just want to see if there is any improvement their senior year compared to their junior year. It happens all the time.
As for UCLA taking five defensive backs, I can see them doing it very easily. I think Walker will be playing a lot of nickel and dime coverages and wants a nice rotation going with a lot of DB's. UCLA will be in a fight with SC and Oregon to get the kid. But, watch out for the other DB from Upland, Thaj Johnson. He has been getting a ton of looks this spring and we've been asked to get film from Upland right away early next year.
As far a the kid from Arroyo Valley, the word around the Pac is that Stanford is the heavy favorite to get the kid. Interesting note, their were two Pac-10 schools that didn't offer the kid, California and USC. One source from USC told us that when they matched up his film compared to the kids they signed last year, there was no way that he could make it at SC and therefore...no offer.
Interesting!
Joe,
thanx for the info. I've heard that some may stay due to Gano stepping down.
As far as the qb situation goes, is that why Sanchez left? Did he not get a fair shake or was Zamona better their freshman year. After all Zamona got hurt in the first game of the year and Sanchez played the rest of the year.
CO - perri, williams ???? no o line can stop them senior year. both stared as sophmores on a senior defense. feel sorry for some quarterbacks
I talked to Phillip's Mom at the UCLA spring game and she said he favored UCLA and she liked Stanford. Where did you hear that he has marginal interest in UCLA? You think UCLA is taking 5 DB's in the '09 class? I thought they were done at that position unless Cliff Harris picked up the grades and they wanted to go after him.
sgv scouting
Pretty funny that your board is missing some lineman that UCLA is talking to right now!
As some people have mentioned, I don’t think they will tell you everyone that they are recruiting.
Part of any good recruiter job is to keep some secrets to themselves and not give information to a scouting services, especially ones that doesn’t have much experience.
I’ll keep the secret until the kid completes his negotiation process. Maybe you should learn the real steps in the process.
With Fred on the baseball beat this weekend, let me "pinch-hit" for Fred and give you some recruiting news from the UCLA and USC fronts...
UCLA...Look for the Bruins to begin actively recruiting Upland CB Oshaun Irabor. Defensive Coordinator DeWayne Walker has been actively seeking to solidfy the secondary and look for them to try and get the corner to come to Westwood....Interesting to note with all the talk about whom UCLA will offer between Nunes and Brehaut, I wonder how soon to be arriving Edison QB Nick Crissman feels right now?...UCLA is also trying to solidify their depth in the front lines and they have decided to go national with their recruiting. Obviously they have concluded that their is not that much offensive line talent in Southern California. Right now on our board for the East SGV and the IE, we only have two lineman that we feel are cinch D-1 scholarship lineman in the Inland Empire. One of which, Phillipp of Arroyo Valley, seems to have marginal interest in the Bruins. The Bruins really do need to fill a need right away...
USC...We have heard from more than several sources that USC is very upset with Cathedral Wide Receiver Randall Carroll. Apparently, the kid is trying to get re-recruited by several other schools and apparently that has not gone down very well over at Hertiage Hall. So much so, that we would not be surprised if USC decided to pull their offer and cut their ties with the prospect. Should make for an summer at Cathedral...We have also heard from a number of sources that SC will be going after Upland Irabor hard and it will start with USC 1-day camp in a couple of weeks. We have Irabor graded a bit higher than BA's Price and love his upside...One USC football source made an interesting point and told us, "That if we didn't get Barkley, we would be recruiting the heck out of Brehaut. And that kid loved us too."
One last thing, we mentioned that their was one PAC-10 school that would be offering Diamond Ranch's Sermons and that school was Arizona. Now, Sermons is in a very interesting situation. Do you take the offer from Arizona and run with it...or do you wait and see if some of the schools that offered Irabor come around and offer Sermons late in the year?" Where's Monty Hall when you need him?
Have a great holiday.
Learn from Samardzija
If this kid receieved Ten million over five years, he will be around for a while regardless of his numbers.
They think a little different with a investment like this!
Ex-ND Football Star Striking Out In Minor Leagues
Most of us remember Jeff Samardzija as a standout wide receiver for Notre Dame, so you’re forgiven if you didn’t realize that he signed a big-money contract to pitch for the Cubs organization last year.
From CHICAGO SPORTS,
Tuesday, [Samardzija] gave up six runs in five innings to Mississippi in his third consecutive start of allowing six or more runs. Over his last six starts, Samardzija has allowed 27 runs in 251/3 innings for a 9.59 earned-run average, with 26 walks and 17 strikeouts.
The speculation last year was that he would have been a first-day pick in the NFL draft, had he opted for that route. It’s easy to understand, though, why he took his shot with baseball. It’s an easier game to play, careers are typically longer, and contracts are typically larger. Ten million bucks over five years surely didn’t hurt, either.
Where Samardzija would have went in the draft is speculatory, however scouts had him as a mid-late first round pick before he inked his contract with the North siders. At the fourteenth pick, Darrelle Revis signed with the Jets for 6 years, $36 million.
That’s alot of cash Samardzija missed out on to get 20 bucks a day for food in Kodak, Tennessee. While the path is not as clear to a starting spot in the MLB as it is in the NFL, it appears as though Samardzija could be at a crossroads soon.
Yeah, and that crossroads will be “working at Burger King” or “working at McDonalds.” Drew Henson showed us how difficult it can be to go back to football from baseball; why would Samardzija fare any better?
I have some news from West Covina..Jacob Shirley, Sophomore, Starting Quarterback has quit football...some are saying that he might move to South Hills or he just wants to stick with baseball.
I appreciate the interest in kickers. West Covina has the best kicker in Southern California. Senior Thomas Flores is his name. He was first team Tribune All Valley as a sophomore. Like all Bulldogs, Flores sees himself as a football player first, kicker second. He lifts and runs with the rest of his teammates. He is looking for playing time on both sides of the ball this year.
Last year he got hurt... and was “replaced” by Robert Rodriguez, another first team All Valley Kicker.
With respect to all, if you want to see a kicker, one with big kick experiences (2006): game winner (0:03) on the clock vs. Monrovia, and (0:02) vs. #1 ranked Mayfair (playoffs)
Look for Thomas Flores! Cal-Hi Sports All-State Sophomore.
jcaz,
Read carefully and try to comprehend what's going on.
The only person that complained about the content of the posts was Fred. My point to Fred was: if you want the type of responses on this blog to change, you must change the way it is run. If you don't change anything about the blog, you can not reasonably expect the quality of people's responses to improve. Either change the blog or stop blaming and complaining about the users. Fred responded that he wants to consider changes, but the paper won't let him.
Hopefully, you are able to understand things a little better now.
jcaz
Right! Let’s look at your post:
1. Sensitive little girls: Sexist comment!
2. Anal cavities: doesn't exist. Maybe better terminology with the English language
3. Constant bashing on Fred: Wrong, freedom of speech. Don't agree with him... Accountability and creditability for using a thread with someone that has zero experience in the business.
4. Come to think of it, it just seems to me that you’re bloging just to get you're name printed on this thing every 3-4 posts: Ridiculous and childish
5. Bloggers Choice Agreed: You’re right on this one!
Gf4 made some great points!
In regards to LA kids leaving I know and heard that some really good kids are leaving. Coaching is not being fair out there and not giving kids chance to win a position on merit and on talent. Most of the kids on the team don't have the confidence in the Soph. QB #19 from last year he may look good in practice but when it comes down to laying it on the line he freezes. I recall last year at the JV game against damien he was at the 1 yard line and was stopped short cause it looked like he did not want to get hit, you have to sacrafice your body in agame like that. But i quess it helps that your dad runs a camp at the campus and that the Assit. Principal is a good friend of the dad just go into his office he has a picture of the kid on his desk, and know his uncle is a coach on the staff. I feel bad for the Longoria kid and the Perez kid which does not even get a chance at QB. LA is in for a long season.
One name, Travonte' Sumler of Rosemead..... Watch out !
the kid from Los Al, was not anywhere close to advertised at the camp, true it's not game situations, but you have to admit Sailer has an $ interest cuz that's his livelihood, he promotes everyone who writes a check, I've had 2 kids go to his camps, but not take any private coaching from him, thus there was no push or promotion, I knew that going in, it's the nature of HS sports now, everyone has an ulterior motive, even the so-called sgv guru, what the heck is he doing here, if you have to tell me how good you are at what you do.... you probably ain't all that good at it
gf4 and all you other “sensitive little girls….”
Man, it seems to me that you made you're point some time ago. Why then are you harping on it so much?
Sure, Fred is the responsible party here, but when it comes to peoples opinions, then you need to understand that they are just like anal cavities, everyone has one right? Chill out on this one dude.
Even though allot of folks don’t like the childish behavior of some of the blogers in here, you're constant bashing on Fred, isn’t getting you any sympathy. In fact, it looks as if you’re just picking a fight with him, maybe because you don’t like his opinions on some of the topics, rather than a genuine concern over the idiots who post stupid comments in here. Come to think of it, it just seems to me that you’re bloging just to get you're name printed on this thing every 3-4 posts.
“Blogger choice,” agreed
Maybe Fred should do a little homework and speak directly with the coaches.
Then you'll get the right picture and how many recruiters have visited the schools over the last month and how many are coming back to look at the perspective players already this spring!
The picture may be much different and real.
SGV BLOGGING GURU
You're right on about Gilmore and Allen.
The evaluation comment:
"but a questionable offensive line make his evaluation very difficult"
Allen, he just doesn't have a clue about the kid. Maybe he should call Big Lou!
Does this guy know anything about football or just a football fanatic as Fred calls him?
football follower
Agree: Grades are a recruiter first question. PERIOD!
some of you guys dont know wut ur talking about
i saw jeremy brown hit many field goals i have never met him personally but have heard he is such a great kid from the assistant principles at LA and he has awsesome grades they tell me. last year he has such a good leg. he is great with his accuracy as well because he did not miss a field goal last year at all.he has a beast of a leg.college kicker for sure
what do you think college kicker or not?????
i have never met him personally but have heard he is such a great kid from the assistant principles at LA and he has awsesome grades they tell m
so does anyone know if jeremy brown has an offer yet?????do u think he is good enough to play pac 10?????????
when will he get an offer if he does not have any yet??????
And don't worry Glendora fans...I am looking forward to seeing your back-up QB next year. From what a number of respected people have told me, this kid has the makings on being something special.
Fred Fan - I will get my notes from the 2007 season out over the weekend see what they said about the players you asked about. Right now, I am in the middle of the current recruiting cycle for the 2009 class.
As far as Jeremy Brown goes, we love the kid. Our board has him listed as a second-tier player with an upside indication (which tell the college that we love his upside). Chris Sailer is doing a good job in getting the word out on the kid.
As for the Brehaut vs. Nunes situation for the coveted UCLA scholarship, I was told tonight that their would be a resolution next week. The feel among many is that Neuhesiel likes Brehaut and Chow likes Nunes. Should make for an interesting meeting their war room next week.
I watched some LA games last year and Brown can kick the kell out of the ball but technique or lack there of caused accuracy problems. The kid is a typical soccer player and I hope he is going to kicking clinics and camps because he may have a future at it.
Good luck to all the Valley football players on possible scholarships. But remember just because you are a stud if you don't have the grades you are going no where. Grades need to be your number one priority.
Lonesome kicker,
Well if you kick one 60 yarder so what. I just stated facts. He ranked very poorly at that camp. You saw the number, they don't lie. You may love the kid, you may even be his father but numbers don't lie.
Wow, another interesting observation. You probably just got everyone all fired up again.
Fred,
you do not need to explain yourself to these people. The blog is what it is and if they do not like it they do not have to come on here and paticipate there are plenty of Blogs that they can choose from but they rather come in here and critique yours. This is the SGV Mosh Pit of all blogs, where banter is allowed and it is a take no prisoners barrage of insults and HS slams. The Jerry Springer of the Blogs. Deal with it or do not come in here. Fred maybe you should put up a Caution / PG14 or not suitable for certain people disclaimer in the front for the people that do not understand how this blog is generated. I like it and it does not offend me because most of it is BS'ing anyways. makes for a good laugh.. you cannot take this too serious. Have fun with it, thats what I do.
Parent,
You know nothing of what a kicker has to go thru to get through the uprights. And when the kid has a chance to win it for the team. THEY GO FOR 2!!!
Can you kick 60 yard punt?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WOcwJH5jWng
I here how good this kid is but in the Chris Sailor Camp his numbers were low. Tied for 6th in feild goals, kickoff's tied for 10th at 59.3 with first at 72.3, punting 7th at 36 with first at 46.3. This was in California and this was out of 28 kids. Combined the Texas numbers and drop way down. Was that a bad day or is he over rated?
does anyone know when Jeremy Beown, the kicker and punter from Los Altos will get an offer??????? or does he have any yet????he is so gooooooood
A pizza party? Sounds good but I'd probably be the only one who showed up. Thanks for all of your comments, I do read and listen carefully to what you have to say, and I realize there is more than I can do, so continue bringing your concerns to my attention, even if I don't respond to all of you.
hello i am the sgv blogging guru i am starting a new service on here
i will be watching over the scouting guru and making sure hes doing a good job
heres my first report of the year
i feel like the scouting guru has tremendous upside
all though his top 10 list was a real dissapointment
he left off tim gilmore and was really off on his evaluation of chris allen...
for this my 1st semester grade is out and i give the scouting guru a D+
Fred a couple of observatios
First the SGV Guru thing really irritates only the knuckle head Dads/Alumni?/Nutjobs for the simple reason that he actually sounds like he knows his stuff, does his homework and apparently has contacts at several colleges. Most here don't have a clue!
(That must kill the knowitalls that only THINK they kow what they are talking about...even if it's only in their very small world) See OCfootball.
Second, in terms of the behavior of some bloggers to threaten each other, make slanderous comments, use language that borders on physical violence, riducule for entertainment's sake, abusing the idenity of people for no reason other than the safety of being anonymous well that's a tough call. Could you have taken a STRONGER stand against some over the top abuse/comments....sure you coud have. Especially when you know those people to be NOHING like they are portrayed on line. But there again...NO ONE put a gun to anyone's head to blog do they? (My point has ALWAYS been why keep those abusive comments up long after the drama? To PRESERVE the historical record? Seems absurd on it's face. I do find some similarity in your approach and Phil Jackson's coaching style. "Let the players (bloggers) work it out for themselves"...however painful. I do remember a large "bounty" (WHICH STILL STANDS BY THE WAY) shutting up an idiot for a minute but does it have to come to that?
Last but not least...I like the sgv scout. He gives bloggers a real sense of the "BIGGER WORLD" of high school sports. Like I've often said...."The SGV talent is weak" some of it is coaching and some of it is SGV's resistnse to play OUTSIDE the confines of our little neck of the woods" AND NOT HAVING A REAL SENSE OF THE COMPETITION THEY'LL FACE AT THE NEXT LEVEL.No further proof is the beat down Eldorado gave Glendora.
SGV Scout what did you think of Travis Eschardise Damien 07 (hotly debated) , Danny Gallardo Damien 08 (overlooked/underused) and the linemen from Glendora 08 Bachman (Strong senior season), and the center on the Glendora team as well. I'm not questioning your credibility but it would give me interesting insight about your skills. Thanks
Fred keep up the good work. Even though you sometimes wipe out my comments MOST if not ALL of the time ...you've done me a favor.
How about a Pizza Party for the bloggers and the Guru. (PreSeason Preview/Players to Look For Session) ..donate the proceeds to the Kenny Gibson Foundation? Remember it's only sports...and sometimes kids get hurt. Let's not forget them when the graduate. TShirts/Prizes?...Goodwill? Give it some thought.
Peace!
I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it. I don't want to endorse his company, just want to share his opinion. I know who he is and that's good enough for me. He's a football fanatic who follows the area as much as anyone. If I think he's being unfair, I won't use him.
Thanks for the frank response, Fred. It sounds like the blog/message board exists primarily to generate interest for the paper. I'm sure that it does that. Too bad the purpose isn't to share interesting discussion without all the nonsense. We could probably have a nice little online community here. Good luck keeping the blog clean this football season.
Fred:
When you ask a service to write a thread and you post it as a topic for discussing, then creditability needs to be established.
Do other scouting services hide behind a paper blog?
Sorry, but this simply is not a good call. This guy claims you asked him to write it, so I guess you are endorsing his company or opinions. Its a bad way to conduct business.
gf4, It has been discussed, but not fully implemented. We've improved to the point where you have to put a screen name and email address, which has helped some, but not enough. If I'm answering your question honestly, I don't think there's a sense of urgency to get this done. This is the only blog at our paper that is comment-driven. We get 100-200 comments a day while all our other blogs are lucky to get 5 to 10 comments a day. The people that monitor our hits love the high school blog because it generates more traffic (it's not even close) than virtually all our other blogs combined. You get where I'm going. Change will come someday, eventually these other blogs will become more popular, but until then, don't expect a drastic change until the other blogs share our same problems.
Fair enough Fred.
Like I said, the people who post comments need to take responsibility for what they post. It just sounded like you were denying any personal responsibility for the comments made here. You are obviously accepting some responsibility for your website.
I do have a question: If the paper won't let you establish user registration, then why was it discussed a few months back on this blog? At the time it seemed like you were representing registration as a real option. Just curious.
Is Sanchez still the coach at Gladstone????
Whatever responsibility you want me to take, I take it, isn't that what I stated in my previous comment. What do you want me to do, shut the blog down, I just explained my position. If you feel that's passing the buck, then fine, I know I will always have people like yourself to deal with, no matter how good the controls are. And you can stop with all the endorsement stuff, if you've been following these blogs I've written many times that anyone can email a topic for discussion just like our scouting guru did, and I will decide if it's worth it for conversation purposes. I've done it with other commenters, so this is nothing new and has nothing to do with endorsing anything. Really, are you that bent out of shape over this? This guru hasn't taken any cheap shots, he hasn't gotten personal, he's just stated his opinion. Even with all the cheap shots directed at him, he's kept his cool.
Joe
Endorsement has been established when you post a thread written by an outsider with little or no creditability.
Fred just shut the blogg down for a week or two durring football season so the nuckel headed dads can cool down. I would hate to sit in the stands with them, they must sound like a bunch of unhappy women.... SGV Scouting keep up the good work and dont worry about these unhappy women or men. All they like to do is complain about eveything. They must have jobs in CUSTOMER SERVICE because they think they are correct....
I'm not sure what the problem is with not knowing our sgv scouting gurus identity. I think I have a decent idea of who he is and what school he's affiliated with, and he amuses me a bit.
He's a guy that sees a bunch of football - and he is giving his opinion. Just like all of us. If he had some other random nickname, would it make it any different? He's not trying to sell his services to parents and kids on here and FJR isn't providing any "free advertisment" or endorsement that means anything. He's providing information. Take it for what it's worth and if you don't agree - go find out on your own.
Fred
That is classic pass the buck - fact is you run this blog, you start the topics, yet you take no responsibility for anything "it's someone elses fault.
Worthless
hey jhykron and any other LA fan,
who is expected to show for spring ball? Specifically at qb. Is the mass exodus still going to happen even though Gano quit? I'm pretty sure we lost a pretty good sophmore due to a life altering event and a Freshman due to some stuff within the program. What about the rest of the guys. Is sophmore qb#19 coming back?
p.s. my monster of a brother and his friend are headed to LA this fall. I've been working with them on the field and in the gym. These guys are good!! Both are from the Northview area of covina, but they want to play for the tradition.
Engage and conquer!!!

I guess the latest on Brehaut-Nunes is that both will be throwing this weekend at the Debartolo camp in Santa Barbara and CRN's son will also be there so he will watch them . CRN is allowed to be there since he will be there as a Dad . Isn't his son a soph QB who is supposed to be a star in the making and headed to Loyola?
Interesting observations and listen, I work under the parameters allowed to me at the paper. They are no different that the 20-something other blog at our paper. I don't have the power to implement the changes I would like to make so I deal with what I have. When we have the power to go to a "real" full registration, I will. About the only thing I could do is go back to releasing comments individually, the way this blog started, but that would require me to check this place 24-7, and I have too much other stuff going on to do that. So where does that leave us, where we're now, with me using my best judgment to delete comments I feel are inappropriate, and believe me, there are dozens of comments eliminated here every day, either by me, or by the eliminating controls that we do have that monitor foul words. I know it's not what you want to hear, but these are the cards I've been dealt. With that in mind I post a lot of polls, try to stay away from being "too opinionated" because I know how people will get. Having said that, I don't mind you placing the blame on me, that's fine. I know I assume a lot of responsibility, and I have an open door policy with all the coaches, especially in football. I know how Verti, Gano, Bogan, and most of the coaches feel about this stuff. They have an open door policy to talk to me whenever they have a problem and fear it's getting out of hand. And they do call and express their concerns and we deal with it. Same goes with parents of kids or the kids themselves, anyone can call the office and talk to me about it, I have no problem with that. Bottom line is it's not a perfect system, and I know there are better system's out there, but without the control to do anything myself, this is where we're.

I like your take! Most services do identify themselves if they are creditable and there is certain procedures and laws they must adhere to.
I guess his opinion really don't matter in the long run but in a legit scouting service, you have to sign up for the information to be released.
A service is where one authorizes and accepts the terms and privacy conditions.

I think I just heard that Chow saw both of them yesterday , liked each of them and now it's in CRN's court. It could end up you are correct , that both get offered and who says yes first gets the prize. Just like with Tedford offering Nunes and Bridgeford and Bridgeford jumping first. Nunes was a pretty big UCLA fan before he started getting offered by every body and their brother. I have to think his family would much rather drive to the Rose Bowl and see his games than fly cross- country. That would wipe out the bank account pretty fast. And isn't Nunes pretty close to his younger brother? .
Is Sanchez still the coach at Gladstone????
From what we have heard, Chow has already seen both of them throw and feels like Nunes is his guy. But, it will be interesting what happens when the staff returns to their war room next week and figures out there next move.
We wouldn't be surprised if UCLA offers both of them and see who jumps on the offer first. But with Florida into the picture now, it will be very interesting to see what Nunes does. It's not very often that Florida invades the state of California.
The credibility of the guru doesn't really bother me. He doesn't want to identify himself or his company and that's fine. Most scouting services do identify themselves, but maybe this guy's operating under a different business model. It's just his opinion, so take it or leave it.
What bothers me is that this blog gets a little ugly from time to time and Fred is placing all of the blame on the users. It is true that the users who post messages need to be accountable for their remarks and that they should shoulder their fair share of the blame. But the author of the blog doesn’t take any measures to hold the users accountable for their remarks. Furthermore, the author of the blog takes no measures to try and prevent or remedy the problems when they come up. That's fine by me, it’s your blog. Just don't complain and don't expect professional, courteous behavior when you do anything to encourage or support such behavior.

I agree with your comments. Some of the problem with this particular thread that Fred has allowed, is that this guy's not even a tribune employee and nobody knows his experience level or his background!
What makes this guy an expert?
Seems very unprofessional by allowing a company with maybe one year under their belt to be making statements about kids that have been viewed at camps or kids they have no clue about.
I could understand it if he's just posting comments like everyone else. Where are the checks and balances at the tribune.
Just seems like a conflict of interest!
SGV Scouting-
I thought Chow was going to look at both Nunes and Brehaut at their respective schools this week and then pick who he wanted to offer and if he still was not certain, he would wait until the 1-day on June 7. Are you saying you have heard he is going to offer Nunes without watching both throw?
Of the top-10 players on our list, Price, Deen, Sermons and Allen particpated in the Nike Camp.
Some of the other players that were their include CO's Ryclaw, Glendora Young and Tescher, WC's Sid and Nevarez.
We moved Price from second to first on our board after his stellar performace at the camp. Deen had an awesome day and Sermons accounted very nicely for himself.
BTW, here is some news you'll read first on the blog. We have found out that the Florida Gators have offered Nunes from Upland and the Washington Huskies have offered Brehaut from Los Osos. We have also learned that UCLA may very well offer Nunes very, very soon.
SGV Scouting did any of the top ten on your list even attend the Nike camp? The boys that attended the Nike camp were the best in So. Cal. not the best in SGV
I will respond to the last post as we are now getting back into football recruiting.
We have two game films on San Dimas and after doing a lot of research on the Barbone, he's a kid that will require a ton of senior evaluation. We like the way the kid is built physically, but we have serious questions about his speed. I will be in attendance at one of San Dimas' early games next year to get a real feel for him in game conditions. He is a prospect.
As for Chad Young, he disappointed us at the Nike Camp. He just didn't measure up to some of the top players in Southern California. In our eyes, he looks like a two-down linebacker that has problems playing in space. Like the way he is built from the hips on up, but he needs a lot work on his lateral quickness. Another one that is a prospect that will need a lot of senior film evaluation.
The kid that we like from Glendora is the lineman Tescher. Not a bad looking kid and several Mountain West Conference schools have asked us for extra film on the kid. A little undersized, but he fits perfectly in an Ivy League school.
SGV scouting do you only mention the players you have tapes on or do you go and look at all players? You have four players that made second team all San Gabriel Valley on your list, but the two that made first team all San Gabriel Valley Nico Barbaone and Chad Young are not on the list. I know Chad Young was Sierra League Defensive MVP and he was on the all CIF team.
Please reply to why they did not make your list.
FredJ,
This is something that has manifested from the inception of the blog. And the biggest exemple of it has been the personal attacks on the character of Mark Verti. The OC Register has already addressed the issue and it has not hurt the blog there. Maybe its time for the Tribune to take some responsibilty for what they have created and follow suit.
Fred,
You need to take some responsibility for when this blog becomes ugly. You do next to nothing to moderate these message boards.
None of the features that can be found on professional message boards are found here. There are no ground rules that are upheld by the moderator or community. There is no user registration. There is no mechanism for readers to report abusive posts. For goodness sake, you still have a message on your soccer preview blog calling the athletes "faaaaaags!"
You don't do anything to regulate or moderate this message board. If you want the people who participate on this blog to be respectful, you need to put some effort into running it like a professional. Take a cue from Scout.com or Rivals.com. Try to implement some of the measures present on those boards to keep things civil. Otherwise, stop complaining. Your neglect has been and will continue to be part of the problem.
By the way YOU are the one who decided NOT to require user registration. Therefore, YOU have no right to complain about "anonymous users". If you don't want to put in the effort to run a professional message board, don't expect it to be professional. If you don't want to moderate the discussion like a professional, don't expect the users to do it for you.
Finally, what I allow the scouting guro to post isn't about whether his opinion is credible, it's his observation. And if you want to know why these blogs get ugly, you need to look yourself in the mirror. If all of you kept it clean and constructive, we'd never have a problem, but I'm sure some anonymous hack will come on and say something stupid anyway. Steve and I were talking about this. Stevie R wrote a Happy Thanksgiving thread in November, and that turned into a 200-comment bashfest.
And why should he reveal his name, about the only person not anonymous in all of these blogs is me.
Y'all are so funny, you say our scouting guro doesn't have thick skin when it's most of you that sound like a bunch of whiners.
What a baby
I agree! He apparently its a footballer and would'nt want him on the grid iron with me!
I going home if you're not nice to me... Get a life and man up!
Self-Proclaimed Scouting Guru,
"You're call here...not mine!"
I also say keep your comments to yourself. You do not have the thick skin to post on these blogs. Plus when a scouting service can't spell the name of the top QB prospect in the Vally(Nunes not Nunez), their credibility has to be questioned.

Just come clean - What is the name of your company and how can we get in contact with you?
You claim that you must remain confidential for your "clients" doesn't cut it.
Craig Schuster
If this is true, the SD Saints welcome Coach Schuster and his family!
Going to be a fun year!
Coach Gano, would love to have you too and we have a good softball program for your girl!
Next stop a new President in the white house.
Changes are good!
SGV Scouting
The SGV will do fine without your opinions!
Maybe Bogan will promote you from Football
Operations Manager over at SH.
Would love to research your company to see how legit it is and what kind of experience it brings to the collegiate ranks.

Great pick up for the Saints! Its a free world to pick and choose who you would like to work for!
Breaking news! Craig Schuster is new defensive coordinator over at San Dimas! Wanted to spend more time with his family. Sure! Isn't that the same thing DiFiori said too. Maybe Gano will join the Charter Oak staff for the 2008-2009 season. How about that Aztec fans!

scouting guru i say keep everything to yourself
south hills homer + bishop amat ballwasher = 1 big joke
Let me myself clear, if you are on here to make insults, We have no problem keeping everything to myself and not keeping the readers in the know.
We did this as a favor to Robledo, but if this is way most of you will respond, then we have no problem in just working with the our clients (which are about 35 D-1 football schools on the west coast) and not keeping you up to snuff on what is going on recruiting wise.
You're call here...not mine!
Amazing,
"...but then again we don't need one to give opinions do we?..."
Isn't that, basically, what Fred just said? So you agree?
Fred:
I think you're missing the point and thank god Steve doesn't allow this to be printed.
By the way, my resume its in question here, but its there, but then again we don't need one to give opinions do we?
I can't afford either, I just grab a handy man.
FJR - nice!!!
simply amazing!
...but I might hire a plumBer !:?)
Amazing, I'm allowing your comments to appear, where's your resume? Point being again, this is just a blog, not a legit news source -- these comments don't go in our paper. I'm happy that a guy takes the time to evaluate players in our area, whether he's on or way off, it's not a big deal really.
LA Parent
It’s obvious that SAT’s and Grades get a scholarship first. That not the question... It’s all about creditability!
Do you hire a Plummer for electrical work? No, so let’s see the resume especially when the tribune is allowing his comments
Why don't you give this guy a break? Take the information for what it is, be constructive. Maybe he is right on maybe he is way off, so what. I could totally understand why he wouldn't what the public to know who he is, if he is scouting for local D1 colleges. I've seen how parents act when someone tells them that their kid doesn't have what it takes to get to the next level.
I will tell you this much, my son is going to make it to the next level and that is with his grades. All you parents that are betting on a scholarship for a college education might as well go to Vegas, the odds are better down their.
It’s a shame that the tribune would back a company with little or no experience.
Why all the mystery? The public should be made aware of a person/company who claims he's legit.
Do any of the SGV coaches really support this guy? What are there thoughts on his commentary?
Until then, the tribune should find a more creditable source.
Maybe Bogan should give you a job on the field first so you can learn whats its all about before thinking your a guru.
This guy is a joke!
On the post about the kid from Bonita...
I believe your fearless prep editor Robledo did a story on him recently. I know that we have stopped evaluating him because baseball scouts have made it a point to tell us that he's going to be a top baseball draft pick.
If we knew that football was in his future, he'd get a strong look from us. But, I think baseball is in his future and he'll make a fine baseball prospect.
A definition of a sports agent is one that takes money from an athlete. We will never take any money from an athlete at all. It is our fondest hope that every kid gets a chance to make it at the college level.
Have a great spring and summer!
COJO
Your right! Co is coming and Chris will make a huge impact.
Hey Mr. SGV GURU (LOL)
Maybe you be careful with your approach and how you make comments about kids you don't know, because when you’re revealed, word of mouth will kill your start up company.
Stop taking this so seriously, this is just an opinion of one. If you don't agree, it's not worth getting all bent out of shape for. Players at this level are ranked and rated all the time, it's part of the sport. Just being mentioned means you're doing something right, so take it for its worth, nothing really, just an opinion.
sgv scouting | May 19, 2008 9:03 PM
Except for your last paragraph, this is old news..
Come on now!
Mr. sgv scouting
First of all, if you are a legit company you shouldn’t have any problem with releasing your name or company and backing it up with solid credentials...
Have you ever played football or coached? At what level? Rumors tells us that you’re some guy from South Hills who hasn’t even coached at SH and your credentials are not legit.
No problem with free enterprise, but anybody can go to combines and give opinions.
You’ll need a big resume and a solid football background to be a Jerry McGuire.
Kids and families... BEWARE
Let me answer a couple of points that have been mentioned...I like good conversation.
Let me give you a tip on Burfict from Corona Centennial. I have been told by many people that Burfict may not qualify at this time next year to enroll at USC. It will be real interesting to see if he can make it. I love him though (he's the best linebacker in the state of California) and he's going to give South Hills fits when they scrimmage each other in September down at CC.
2) As far as the current graduating class in concerned, I love Austin going to Arizona. The cats made it a point of getting bigger up front and with the signing of a couple of JC guys along with Austin, I like the direction they are going. But make no mistake about it, Stoops is on the hot seat and has to win a few games next year and make a bowl game. The Air Force got quite a steal in Umodu from SH. He'll make an immediate impact there. USC got a nice kid in McMahon, could end up on special teams his sophomore year. Amazing, the kid passed over a few D-1AA offers to walk-on at USC. And I like what San Jose St did in getting Rodriguez from LA. That kid is going to make it....trust me. Dorian Wells just didn't have the body nor the speed to make it in the Pac-10, but he will fit in great over at Villanova.
As for me personally, I an under contract with more than 30 colleges and I am in the process of him them allow me to reveal my name. It will take a while, but, I work directly with all the Pac-10 schools and all the major D-1 schools on the west coast. In time, you'll know who I am.
scouting guru,
If you are as qualified as you claim to be why do you continue to remain anonymous? I have attempted for several months now to get additional information so my son can get the same advocacy as these other athletes or at least evaluated by your service, but you and FredJ continue to avoid answering the question. Who are you "scouting guru?"
how can u not include Giovani Mayaer from Bonita hes one of the best athletes ive ver seen hes good at every sport
whatever though football starts tormorrow at bonita get ready 2 work guys we have what it takes to be great this year but we need to SELL OUT!!!!
SCOUTING GURU??.....any chance on evaluating the current graduating seniors?...im kind of interested as to what you think of guys lilke RABE and McMahon, and Austin and how they will fare at the next level.
SGV Scouting-
I completely agree re the talent in the IE. The hold back on some of those guys seems to be qualifying grades. Even Burfict was ineligible his first two years and who knows whether he will get high enough even to get into SC even with its reduced standards for recruits.
Thanks for the heads up on Boise St with Barbone. I have several sources that can call to see if this is true. Hey, I never said the kid couldn't play, remember not all coaches agree with scouts, just ask the college scouts that work for the NFL teams.
As for the Chris Allen comments, I am just telling you what is out there on the recruiting trail. I wish the kid well and I hope that he makes it.
As for Gilmore, I personally have seen him run more than once and was really impressed with his performance at the Covina invitational. He just needs great senior film against quality opponents for him to get a real honest look. A great game against Charter Oak will go a long way.
Finally, I don't do the west san gabriel valley, (the east and the Inland Empire are more than enough for me personally) but I have seen Golper in person and on film and I really like his game. He moves very well, plays physical and seems to have a understanding of the game. I agree with UCLA on this move.
I have no problem answer any recruiting questions, but I will not answer insults. So if you have an insult, don't expect an answer. If you have an intellectual question when it comes to talent in the SGV (and the IE...hey the talent is unreal out there) I will be more than happy to answer it.
WOW, what a backstabbing slap at Allen, CO. Wait and see with Adam Kilie ,Peri and Evan WILLIAMS CO is the team to beat.
Hey Fred I was wondering if the scouting guru would be willing to evaluate the talent that will be competing in the upcoming ALL-Star game.Maybe he could attend the practices and give us some sort of "WHAT TO LOOK FOR" for the game. I think it would be kind of nice to see where he projects the kids that are going to be playing college ball this year. It would also be a nice warm-up to the upcoming season. Any info on the all-star game yet FRED? Or did i just miss it?
thanks a lot Fred, you have provided great coverage and I look forward to another upcoming season.
I assume this list pertains to only the East SGV territory covered by this paper. Otherwise, the list of "the top ten prospects in the San Gabriel Valley" is sorely missing a clear top prospect:Todd Golper of Arcadia ( rated 4-star by Scout with national rankings as the #6 MLB ,#130 at any position ,and # 20 at any position in the West; 4 stars by Rivals and the #11 ILB in the country, #205 at any position and 5.8 ratingL; graded at 77 by ESPN ,one of their top grades so far for ILB's). Regarding Seals, he is much more likely to be a Safety in college than a Linebacker. He even lined himself up with the DB's at a Tom Lemming photoshoot yesterday at the Rose Bowl. He is a quality kid from a quality family and should get some offers after he hits a few camps over the next month or so. As to Bowens, he is rated 3 stars, #72 in the West and #22 nationally at SLB by Scout. He is listed as having been offered by Oregon , San Diego State and Texas A&M in addition to UCLA so obviously college coaches disagree with your scout. Moreover, no one has ever doubted DeWayne Walker's ability to judge talent. As to Price, he should stay solid to UCLA. Carroll hardly played his Dad at all in Dennis's two years with the Jets so why should he have any loyalty to Carroll?
The top ten list should be revised, I know of atleast one other kid not mentioned that will steal the show this year, just wait and see, everyone will know him by end of pre-season
Fred:
You probably are a better guru than this company.
LOL
Chris Allen a question mark? Right!
Better check with Big Lou to get the insight.
Oh, by the way, he's playing baseball Mr. Guru... Nice service you run!
Hey Fred,
The scout guy really doesn't have an idea, Nico Barbone has already been offered at Boise St. as a safety and he has just been granted an appointment to the Air Force Academy. He won't play full back in college.
Fred:
You need to use a different scouting guru. Alot of the coaching don't have much faith in this company or this guy.
Its funny, but NUMEROUS schools are interested in Gilmore and guess what, he running track not attending combines that don't get you to the next level. Also, the films are sent directly to the recruiters as requested.
The results of a scholarship are grades SAT's, performance and luck not combines or companies trying to make money off families.
Gilmore has plenty of schools interested and I would be a beting man, so does some that are not mentioned on the list.
Jeremy Brown has a beast of a leg. I've personally seen him hit 60 yarders in practice. He didn't get many chances last year, but considering our offensive prospects this season...I'd say he'll have plenty of chances at some long field goals!
