Don, it really is pretty crazy, when you put it like that. The "visual" on the third paragraph of your post was too funny!
I'm sitting here pondering some of the possible match ups in the upcoming CIF playoffs and the potential travel required for some of the teams. Division 4 for instance, which happens to include our local Valle Vista and Miramonte Leagues, covers eleven different leagues and runs from the Coachella Valley to the Simi Valley with stops in the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys in between.
Is this how CIF picks these Divisions? “OK, all of you guys with schools that are in a valley, line up over there by the Coke machine. The rest of you stand by while we try and find something you have in common”.
I mean, they could do a better job sorting the Leagues and Divisions by mascots. “Birds, over here; dogs and wolves, next to the stage, predatory cats over by the stairs; line up in order of ferocity please. All legendary warriors and characters from history and pre-history are out in the quad next to the snack bar. I'm not going to warn you Titans and Giants again, no pushing!”
The real problem of course, is that the folks who set this stuff up don't buy their own gas, moreover they wouldn't make the pilgrimage from Ojai to Palm Desert in the first place. They only attend the finals at the Home Depot Center or Dodger Stadium and when they do, they probably take a limo.
At least it looks as though the gang over in Los Alamitos made an effort to improve this for the next couple of years when San Bernardino is as far as the BB playoffs should take any of us. Too bad they still haven't gotten the word yet on the San Gabriel Valley League which still doesn't have any teams from the San Gabriel Valley in it.
Maybe next time.
Don't know how the final seeding will work out but seeing CO, San Dimas, Bonita and Northview in the semis wouldn't be a surprise.
Covina will also make a run but, now that SD is hitting the ball, they are going to be tough to beat.
You are right Fred, NO easy road for any of those teams. It is going to be fun. My heart is with Northview so I wish them the best. Good Luck Vikings, YOU will never disappoint not have you.

CIF already addressed the issues of No. 1 seeds, so this isn't speculation. They felt Northview's overall body of work was better than Patriot's. What does this mean? That Northview still has to win five to bring home a title. It's going to be a great division, Bonita, Charter Oak, San Dimas and Covina could just as easily win it.
I think Patriot split this last week, against a so-so team and NV won both. True? Good Luck Northview, we wish you continued success. Also best of luck to San Dimas and Covina - let's do the VVL proud. GO VIKINGS GO

Click, that's the beauty of the old CIF. A team can be the top-ranked team and not be the top seed. It doesn't make sense, but believe it or not, it happens more than you might think.
That's what I was told by someone in the know.
freddie, you base Northview getting the number seed.....how? Patriot is rated above them in the CIF poll......typical of the trib honks, lol
Actually Freddy, the final polls come out Monday, but nothing should change in terms of the top spots.
