SGV: Where winning CIF happens

Comments

"ducky",
Amat beat Glendora on the way to the finmals of Glendoras tournament and split with Damien. Your point?
Now shut the duck up! (I had too!:?)

Aunt Jemima,
They all count. Every game. Otherwise we wouldn't be harping on Northview beating Amat all season long. You can't pick and choose when they count and when they don't. Do they...or don't they? The first round or two of the playoffs could be pancake (cupcake?) teams, but after that there'll be teams that can (and have) beat teams from all levels. Look it up!

Here are some games that count too. Games kids can talk about for a long time. Teams the Lancers (who incidently are ranked 12th in the STATE by MaxPreps) beat:
Chatsworth at Loyola Marymount (24-5 and 14th in the state of California)
Christian Bros (32-7 and the #2 team in the state of Tennessee)
West Linn (20-7 and #2 team in the state of Oregon)
Are kids going to remember games like that - or some random games against a Claremont or University HS?
Amats only losses on the year are to Northview (#1 in D4 and 30th in the state of California), St Johns (20-7, ranked 3rd in Washington DC), Jupiter, FL (23-6 and 16th in the state of Florida), and a split with Damien (33rd in the state of California) during Spring Vacation.

Right... weak schedule! Pink trophy?!?

Just like the pink bat that Amat graduate and MLB All Star game MVP Mike Youg hit with on Mothers Day. Priceless!

JOE ALL THIS IS TRUE BUT EXPLAIN LOSING TO BOTH GLENDORA AND DAMIEN WHEN ONE OF THSE TEAMS MISSED THE PLAYOFFS AND THE OTHER PLAYED BASICALLY LOWER LEVEL TEAMS ALL YEAR BUT IN THE END BEAT AMAT?

joe amat. dont even try and debate amat being in division 5. No one cares about preseaons games. those only count on the overall record for playoff seeding.

it's obvious the CIF has them in a lower division because they would get their a** kicked in division 1. enjoy that PINK trophy they give out for winning division 5 against pancake teams.

"tougher baseball teams ".

You know we lay in wait for ignorant comments like that.

Who has Damien *chosen* to play that's tougher than Chatsworth, St. John's(DC),
West Linn(Or), Jupiter(Fl), Christian Brothers(Tn), St. Francis, or Loyola,
I'm not certain you even played anyone that was any better than Bishop Montgomery or St. Paul.

While Damien, essentially tried to join the Valle Vista League by playing Covina, Ganesha (3-18) and Pomona (6-17). Then you lost to Marina and they're 5-10 in league while Chaffey finished at 3-12, and West Covina was 7-20 on the year

The 8 teams you CHOSE to play (besides Amat) had 78 wins and ONE HUNDRED THIRTEEN losses.

Did you say "tougher baseball teams ". Please!!!

or they go to damien because they like to play tougher baseball teams than the weak division 5 amat team.

Fact o the matter is...Damien is where second tier athletes go to play sports and get a private education, because they don't want to be be put up against the top tier talent at BISHOP AMAT. Gotta play somewhere. BOOYAAA!!!

confused,
I am sure you know most of these posts on here are all in fun. There is really nothing on here to make a person angry unless it is a personal attack as was the case when the dogs were after damien dad aka mean machine and so forth , now that was personal and way off base. Now I will probably catch hell for defending him . It is all in fun as I have stated before many times. Yes there are some high school kids but there are also many adults .The references I spoke of in the crappy post were what basically what every hater of AMAT has come on here and posted. As you can see by the reply before your post. I go on here as a form of entertainment but sometimes as you say, the logic, I try to help a situation as in the parent tired of the Nieto thing. Believe me when I say after 40 or more years of affiliation with AMAT nothing the haters can say will suprise me. Basically I have heard them all from the old, spoiled rich kids to the new, beer bellied ghetto raider references. In closing remember these post are what they are and I am sure you have enough sense to know which are for fun and which are serious.

Is anyone else on this board as tired of reading all of this Amat stuff as I am? This is consuming you people - get a life!

yea shame on you dude!

AMAT 73, I real a lot of replies on these blogs, and you have me stumped. First - let me state that I am neither an AMAT fan nor an AMAT hater! I am hoping your amat73 is NOT indicative of the year that you graduated, because I seem to recall you also mentioning that you were an alum and that your kids went to Amat - yes? you surprise me because sometimes I see the logic and not just loyal because - well because..and then I have read MANY replies from you like the latest one above. It surprises me how GHETTO you can be and then how angry you can be, if you are old enough to have had kids that go there THEN YOU ARE CERTAINLY OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW that you are basically sparring, challenging kids on here that are probably still in High School. Kids -- you get that, right??? Come on if you have so much Amat pride then show some class and respond like an adult and not like some punk-a** high school kid. Shame on you dude.

amat 73 need another beer to keep that belly full? how about a raider t shirt homie?

crappy 3-7
Just remember what you're posting and see what our crappy team does to your team next season. Doesn't it bother you that some barrio ,living in the past ,beer bellied , low house priced neighborhood school always seem to kick your a_ _ on the football field.

That is the shortest, stats-free response ever from Joe Amat - but he is absolutely right. Like THEM or not, if used properly, the education that Amat provides is....PRICELESS, well not priceless cause it costs BUT you know what I mean.

D.I.R.M.,
Well said - it's what goes on INSIDE the fence that counts - not the surrounding area. If anyone has been to the areas surrounding Loyola HS or Mater Dei, you know exactly what I mean.

Most kids at both schools drive in from other areas anyway (as those that complain about our vast "recruiting base" continually remind us) so the school zipcode is irrelevant to the student body. As mentioned, the homes across the street from Amat share a zipcode (91791) with the homes in South Hills Estates (which are not violent crime free either, as we've unfortunately recently witnessed). No where is immune to todays problems, so it is the safe, secure, and educational/athletic environment inside the walls that is important.

There are some very nice parts to Hacienda Heights and some very nice parts of West Covina, but then again there are some very horrible parts of those two cities. This does not make a differance on what Amat has to offer as a school nor does it have anything to do with what Damien has to offer being in a area that is more upscale. Living in the So. Hills Area of West Covina even with the housing market drop my home is still valued at 900k or more. my kid goes to Amat and we send him there for the great education he gets from there, he wil be attending Cal Poly Pomona after graduation with a 3.5 GPA. With all the hostility that goes back and fourth between what lives in your neighborhood and what is around your school does not matter when it come to getting a Private school education, it has worked for 2 children of mine and I would not trade sending my kids to Amat for anything, but if there was another school to send them to other then Amat then it would be a another private school. Never bashing on Public school because there are some good ones, I just much prefer a Private for my kids. So all the raider / beer belly remarks and gangs and all the winos and graffity does not matter to me because weather you are at Amat Damien Loyola Mater Dei Servite we all have that scum, some just moreso then others.

and to the Rand McNally that is looking forward to the 3-7 Amat v. Damien game (talk then!) - you conveniently (strategically?) left out POMONA as a surrounding city that is a stones throw from Damien. I'd take 3 Baldwin Parks for every 1 Pomona! And we should get no more blame for El Monte than you get credit for the beautiful areas in the hills of La Verne. Proximity is the key.

and now Damiens most famous basketball player, Bill Duffy, has a company that is funneling money to amateur athletes(OJ Mayo).
Great character building institution you have over there in that beautiful area surrounding Damien.
The 3 top athletic graduates are at the center of drug trafficking, murder for hire, steroids, and paying amateur athletes.
I'll take the corner of Orange and Fairgrove.

Enough already this is ridiculous!

Hey reality check

Quit throwing your beer cans over the fence with your warehouse co-workers. You can just drop them off at my recycling center so I can make some $$. Thanks dude.

I live in my own reality czech: You really are a donkey. Those other two bloggers are right you don't have a clue.

If you want to expand the discussion to the surrounding areas I would gladly take Damien over Amat. Let's see Claremont, San Dimas, Diamond Bar, Glendora, or Amat's area of El Monte, Baldwin Park, Valinda or West Covina. I have been to Hacienda Heights and I would hardly consider that an upscale area. You lose this debate hands down on what school has the best area. I will glady take damiens area over the ones by amat where the nightly activity is comparing raider t-shirts and large beer belly's

You want to talk sports teams? How about that crappy 3-7 football team of yours huh my boy?? I love doing battle with un-armed amat idiots.

Reality czech (AKA I have no clue what I'm saying)
What a dufus Listen to yourself babble. You make as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.

RC,

Wow!!! Let me just move to Amat's area when I sell my mansion. I also want my boys to get that well socially well rounded education which includes girls. Where do I sign up? What an idiot.

no, no, no- you don't get to take credit for anything ABOVE Foothill Blvd.! That's no more your neighborhood than Hacienda Height is La Puente's. Do the transients still make there way from the Sante Fe railroad tracks to the dugouts of the baseball field? The warehouse workers still throw their beer cans over the fence on Palomares. I'm certain I've spent more time on Damiens campus than you have at Amat. Maybe Amats most famous football player was a Rhodes Scholar after his National Championships at USC.Damiens most famous football player is spending 40+ years in prison for drug traficking and arranging a hit on the judge handling the case. Since this is a baseball post, Amat's most famous player right now might be Mike Young, All Star MVP while Damiens has gone into hiding after a little thing called steroids.
But we're not here to talk about the past...

average home price in the barrio= $326,551

average home price in La Verne= $578,475

Living the Barrio= Scary!

Living in La Verne= Priceless!!

REality czech

just keep wondering my lost pea brain blogger. At least you tried to come up with some geographical intelligence but you were a couple of beers short of a six pack. Get real man..
Your talking to people who know both areas...Not matter what you say around the area of Damien, no comparison. Most feel a lot safer in LV.

Can you say....girls??? A much more well rounded social environment at Amat.

And as for the surrounding area I wouldn't exactly call it "the barrio". Have you been to the neighborhoods? A home run to right field lands in West Covina. would that make it better for you if it had a WC zip code? Damien is much closer to the railroad tracks and you know what they say. Also surrounded by Industrial areas with the overflow from Arrow Hwy. Plus some unsightly goings on at the shopping center that's deserted for about 15-20 years a block away. It must be a desirable area - that's really attracting the developers! I'd be MUCH more worried about the Pomona overflow than the area around Amat.

I'd really worry if I were Damien. In a couple of years they won't even be the best private school in La Verne with everything that La Verne Lutheran is doing with athletics

amat vs damien? look at the neighboorhoods. Amat=Barrio Damien=LaVerne nice family town. easy choice where to send my kids. DAMIEN!!

We Played,
so you get to pick and choose which games count? second games of doubleheaders are off the books? tournament games? non-league games.games on overcast wednesdays?
where does it stop? guess what? they all count!

so to quote big joe amat --stick to head to head competition - DAMIEN DESERVES ALL THE BRAGGING RIGHTS. That is all we got to say about that!!!!!!!!! somehow the amat honkers will whine about something - bring it DIV. 5 BOYS

We Played,

You are absolutely 100% correct - would like to argue but can't.

Damien played Amat this year and when we both played are starting line ups in the first game of the double header Damien was the victor. No crying here,

common sense,
We'r talking " ALL " sports ! ( I want my Attorney !!!! ). Win something over there & then talk smack.

Sorry Damien doesnt want to join Div V in baseball. Your Del Ray league is nothing in statue to the sierra league. I mean come on use some common sense

WOW !
is that lil bro Damien trying to smack on Big Bro Amat ???? Is this the same damien that refuses to join the Big Boys in the all Private Leagues ??? Is this the same damien that threatens to SUE every time there's talk of moving them into an All Private League ??? Even Cantwell & Salesian would beat them down !!!!

damien bb is right. Amat 73 is right on cue. someone hand that boy a crying towel please

damien bb,
You call us cry babies. Call all your damien backers and maybe you can muster up more that 6 votes. See you on the football field.

Well last year Amat beat a tough Monrovia team in the Championship game going up against a high caliber pitcher in Eddie M.: Because Amat is Amat and certain people put them on a high pedestal but even playing D5 you still have to play the games and reguardless if some think it is a weak Division any team can beat any team. I would not be surprised if Amat see St. Paul again a D5 team that gave Amat all it had this year only to come up a little short.

I happen to agree and now we will get the 3 common joes, to sit and whine about why amat is hated, a list of facts to tell us why amat is hated and their famous mantra -- a ring is a ring is a ring. Of course we are all just jealous right??

Amat has the best chance huh? I wonder which powderpuff they will beat to win title. Can you say a title over " little sisters of the poor"? Or will the title be over Cupcake High School?
