Softball Rankings & Standings

Game of the day: Glendora (13-8, 5-3) at St. Lucy's (13-10, 4-4), 3:15 p.m.

Tribune Rankings
1. Los Altos (19-5)
This isn't debatable anymore. The Conquerors have won 12 straight and are streaking toward the playoffs. Patterson is the best pitcher in the area, and her run support makes this a very dangerous team in the post-season.
2. Bishop Amat (16-8)
Having seen everyone, the Lancers are a deserving No. 2. They're a perfect 6-0 in the Del Rey League and their non-league schedule was brutal in comparison to others on this list. We're talking about close losses to La Serna, Mater Dei and a split against Los Altos. And if there's a better all-around shortstop than Jessica Traxler, I haven't seen her.
3. Glendora (13-8)
From No. 7 to to 3? Absolutely. I've always believed the Tartans were this good. For them to be in a three-way tie in the Sierra going into the last week is all you need to know. They had a huge split with Ayala, and split with Chino Hills a couple weeks back. All that stands in the way of an improbable league tittle is a two-game set with St. Lucy's, which obviously won't be easy.
4. Northview (17-6)
I have to be honest, the Vikes are losing their edge. This was a team soaring with confidence heading into last week, then it dropped two huge games to San Dimas and Covina, which won't take their No. 1 playoff seed, but still leaves the Vikes in a tie with Covina for the VVL title. Hannah Fraijo is a warrior, but not sure if the whole team shares that same confidence anymore.
5. Covina (17-5)
From the very beginning I thought Covina had the best team in the VVL. I give a slight edge to Fraijo over Colts pitcher Jill Huntsman, but I think the Colts are more solid defensively, and hit a little better. Of course, the Vikings won two out of three from the Colts, but the Colts won the last meeting, and must be feeling good about how they're playing at the moment.
6. Charter Oak (18-9)
That 2-1 victory over an 18-3 La Serna team is still shocking. What it shows is the Chargers are capable of beating anyone, and obviously a dangerous playoff opponent. For them to win their own tournament, which also included a 6-5 semifinal win over Los Osos is just more proof. Logic says they can't keep winning this way. Logic says you need a dominant pitcher. But this is a team that keeps surprising me when I'm ready to count them out.
7. Sierra Vista (18-3)
It's hard not to look at the Dons and think this is like comparing the Big West Conference to the Pac-10. The Dons are dominating the Montview League, but the Montview isn't strong at all with the exception of Azusa, who is talented but young. Truth is, I don't really know how good Sierra Vista is capable of being. We'll know that answer come playoff time.
8. South El Monte (15-7)
Okay, we know the Eagles beat Charter Oak and San Dimas way back in the beginning of the season and are dominating the Mission Valley League with an 8-0 record. But the Eagles are 7-7 outside the MVL, and lets face it, the MVL hasn't been the toughest of leagues in recent memory.
9. St. Lucy's (13-10)
The Regents are 4-4 in the Sierra, a game behind three-way leaders Chino Hills, Glendora and Ayala, who are all at 5-3. That can change with a two-game series against Glendora starting this afternoon at St. Lucy's. What a great way to finish the season. St. Lucy's needs a win to stay in the playoff hunt while the Tartans can clinch a playoff spot with a win.
10. San Dimas (14-9)
I can say this, I never gave up on this team. I knew the Saints were too good to be playing so bad through the middle of the season. Now they've won six of seven, which includes wins over Covina and Northview, and the Saints will be a dangerous No. 3 team in the playoffs.

Simple truth,
You need to go out and watch some practices because it isn't Gano teaching the girls anything it's the new coach teaching the basics! That's what the team needed a real coach!!

Shut The Puck Up! said:

SOFTBALL...that's easy because you have a deep seeded hate for Gano, you use multiple aliases and you're a miserable human being.

I think that about covers it dont you? Let's see his kid is nails, well liked and very respectful, his team is League Champs in the playoffs and on a 13 game run. That must kill you.

Last year we had a Glendora blowhard that dissed Coach P without mercy and was the laughing stock of Glendora when the team went UNDEFEATED in league and won their FIRST Championship in 15 years. And the Head set comments, playbook commnts, and evey other comment fell into the wastebasket of useless suggestions. Ay least wait until Gno coaches a 3 year dog before you have your say itherwise you just sound bitter.

Boy was he a know-it-all just like you, well not not you exactly. He was more of a passive aggressive guy with illusions of grandeur whereas you are just a little man without a voice that no one cares about...want a hug?

Support the girls and shut the h --e-- double hockey sticks up!

simple truth,

"coach gano came out strong trying to teach your girls the basics".

What softball team were you watching, came out strong. If you used, "came out strong" for last years team I could see that. Don't forget about what happen at the Bishop Amat game last year.

As far as the person Gano, I have never seen a coach with his experience talk so much crap about the kids. What he needs to do in the off season is take a communication class. He also needs to keep his mouth shut around the kids because his comments get around the school. A great coach takes responsibility for the loses, not start pointing the finger at his players. That is a weak coach that is very insecure in himself. Ask yourself this, why is it that we have hundred’s of varsity high school head coaches in the valley and about 90% of the negative comments on this blog are about Gano.

about coach sara, being the best coach in the valley.my daughter played 2 years for her.in 2006 she had the best team in the valley.with 6 starting seniors, all travel ball playrs.and can't make it passed the 2nd round.paterson pitched a 2 hitter and loses 1-0.the seniors all went 0-fer.and her superstar L.O. choked w/4 k's.sara couldn't manufacture 1 run.last year she picks up the jv coach.and what did he bring?not much.ask your daughter what did she learn from these 2.in the 2nd round against beckman the senior ss choked, your coach choked.the blue is giving her the outside corner and the batters having trouble with it so on a 0-2 count they go inside and give up a homerun.patterson gets the ugly loss beckman wins cif.coach sara just had great players those 2 years.she never won anything before then.coach gano came out strong trying to teach your girls the basics.which the other 2 didn't.your girls learned more this season than any with sara,or her J.V. coach. if coach gano leaves thats his choice.he brings you 4 cif football titles.and you hate on him.he teaches your girls to to play hard expect more out of each other.and you hate on him.and there 20-5, 11-1 in league.your never happy.why should he stay?

All schools go through their rebuilding years and instead of saying good going girls you said in basic words that south el monte is worthy of their accomplishments, next time say something POSITIVE because very school again goes through rebuilding and no one should take that away!!! LA conq,
Wow! maybe it's time that you stop kissing you'r head coaches ass and see him for what he really is. Obviously this is going around for a reason so open your eyes and your ears. I know alot of people around your fields are talking and this is the main topic right now so somebody obviously spilled the beans! Good luck to your ladies in 2 years!!

Wilson said:

I could understand why they believe what they believe. It was all over Hacienda Heights that Gano wanted to take over the Softball team when his daughter came to LA. Gano's the AD aka Farnworth boss. His daughter shows up, the best coach in the valley decides to leave the best team in the valley. Gano gives himself the job. She left the team with the best pitcher in the valley coming back as a junior. You can say what you want about Gano, but he is a snake.

LA Conq said:

Real Softball...

You're an ignorant prick and have done a great job at showing everyone on this blog that you know absolutely nothing about Los Altos, Gano or Farnworth.

You're the reason kids quite High School sports...because they have myopic, self-centered, S#!t talking parents like you.

I know both coach Gano and Sara Farnworth personally and I'll tell you this...Gano is a great person who cares deeply for the kids he coaches. Quit bashing him. Sara was not "forced" out as you so ignorantly claim. She chose to leave as someone stated earlier. As I said, I know her personally and have spoken with her about the move. She agonized over the move but did what was best of her future.

Leave these good people alone. Stop spreading rumors that don't exist. Ass.

Thanks for your input.

softballfan said:

Oh ok uhm, If you have to say that then I'm sure you know who and where Walnut is!

FredJ said:

There's no truth to it, does that satisfy you?

Real softball said:

yes you are ignorant,

So Gano are you leaving? Didn't mean to upset you there buddy! You might have to cancel practice or cut it short again today just to get over this!

yes, you are ignorant said:

Ok, this is my last comment. You just said that Coach Farnworth was "Driven" out of there. Get your facts straight. She wanted and chose to leave to go back to Upland. She did what was best for her. Why would you say she was "driven" out? Man, I hope your not around the field to much because your what coaches call a "Cancer". The fact remains, the team is 19-5 and have won 13 straight. They are #1 in the valley and #2 in CIF.

Real softball said:

u really are sick in the head,

No I am neither ignorant or a bitter parent my daughter gets her job done on that field and does it well. Luckily I don't have any complaints like that. My daughter gets all seven innings of playing time and then some! To bad coach Sara was driven out of there. Those were her girls and she was getting the job done and knew the game! Those were the days when you didn't have to say it's ok that coach sucks! And I never said that the coaches sucked! What kind of example would I be showing my kid if I said that. The only thing I asked was if Gano was leaving

So Fred is he or isn't he??

you really are sick in the head said:

real softball,

obviously your just an ignorant and bitter parent. your daughter doesn't probaly get the playing time YOU think she deserves. I can bet your advice to her would be, don't worry about it honey, the coach sucks. Instead your advice should be, you just have to work harder and show them that you can do the job. As far as them being players before they get to high school....I would hope that would be the case. i'm just willing to bet that your daughter wasn't a good player before and still isn't. And for you to say that all coaches are in coaching to win cif....then you really don't have a clue and i'm done wasteing my time with you. Like i said in my orginal post, GET A LIFE!

real softball said:

u still make me sick,
Come on are you for real? All coaches are there for the CIF title! Especially when you have a good group of girls. Get off it! You coaches don't make those players the players are already made befor they step on your field. Coaches are just there to stack stats and to pick favorites and to pretend that they know what they are doing. If anything they thank the coaches that made them the players befor they got to high school. Why are you getting all defensive are you the coach? If not then I really don't care what you have to say!

So Fred what's the verdict? Is he or isn't he?

u STILL make me sick said:

real softball,

Well, if every coach left their program after a certain class left, then their would be a hundreds of coaching changes each year. That's your problem, you think all coaches want to coach because their ultimate goal is to ONLY win cif. Believe it or not, a lot of these coaches coach because they love making an impact on young kids lives. The people you remember as you get older are your teaches and coaches. And for a coach, a former player who comes up 5 years later and says Coach, I just want to thank you for all you did. Is really why High School coaches coach in the first place. Trust me, it's not for the $. So do me a favor, sit back and relax. If the LA girls go far then good for them. If not, then you tell your daughter how proud you are of them and that everthing is going to be ok.

real softball said:

u make me sick,

No just want to know if there is any truth to that rumor. After all what will he have left once those 09's leave? Why wouldn't he go somewhere were he might have another shot at a championship. He won't get it at LA after 09! That's the rumor going around right now get with it!

u make me sick said:

real softball,

seriously, you need to get a life. are you sick in the head or what?

real softball said:

Hey Fred!
You talked to Gano last week right? Rumor control is that he is leaving Los Altos after 2009 Graduate Patterson leaves and after he gets his two shots at CIF with her and his daughter any truth to that? It is said that he will be heading to Bishop(the rivals) after 09 is that true? Is he going to jump ship once he loses those players because then he will have nobody to give him that championship? What kind of coach is he? Come on spit it out!!!

uhm said:

softballfan,

Walnut who???

softballfan said:

Hey, what about Walnut Fred? They have won 9 in a row! They have beaten Diamond Bar and Bonita! Got to give it up!
