The Big Dummy
"You know how I be. Last week Kobe couldn't do without me,"
-- Shaquille O'Neal

Shaq, Shaq, what were you thinking? I know it was just a freestyle rap -- I laughed when I saw it the first time, but why go there? People are going to believe these are Shaq's true feelings, joking or not. Most members of the media have carefully downplayed it after Shaq's apology, but the Maricopa County Sheriff wants the Big Dummy's badges back. Apparently he's been fired for his racially insensitive comments. What do you think? Should we dismiss it as playful fun. If this was Kobe free-styling about Shaq being fat, out of shape, and going out in the first round, would the media be harder on Bryant?

WTH,
I think a lot of us are sick of your chickenshit "mayate" comments. Where I'm from you better be ready if you talk crap like that. Are you on the yearbook staff at Charter Oak? If you want to tear a community apart with your cowardly BS then please crawl back into your hole and stop pretending to talk Spanish, because you don't deserve to speak a beautiful language.

I aggree about is Fat Ass Lazzy Mayate. Shaq from the Laker Nation Fu?k you

Good point about Left Tackles reputation for toughness. I suppose I was considering mainly Shaq's physical talent, as I do not know him personally and can not speak to his toughness.
I am curious, though, about the basis for these many posts that say Shaq is not tough. The guy was fouled just about every time he touched the ball during the past 14 years, whether the foul was called or not. He usually just played on.
I agree that he must not be disciplined and is likely lazy with his off-season conditioning. All those extra pounds definitely took a toll on his joints as he ran up and down the hardwood floors.
By the way, I think Tony Boselli should be mentioned between Munoz and Ogden.
Posted by: New York | June 27, 2008 2:27 PM
New York...lefy tackles are tough as they come Munoz, Ogden ect....Shaq is a punk. ALWAYS HAS BEEN ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!
WHAT'S HE ON HIS FOURTH MAYBE FIFTH TEAM BY YEARS END....AND EVERY COACH HE'S EVER HAD HAS QUIT OR BEEN FIRED AFTER HE'S BEEN THERE. HILL, JACKSON, RILEY, AND NOW THE SUNS COACH....NEXT UP IS TERRY PORTER...
SHAQ IS A CANCER BECAUSE HE'S NEVER BEEN ABLE TO HAVE ANY CLASS IN HIS LIFE...ASK HIS "TALKED ABOUT" WIFE...NICE DADDY!
HOW ABOUT DR. BUSS? NICE, SHAQ GROW UP OR SHUT UP BUT EITHER WAY GET READY FOR THE SEASON LONG VEAT DOWN YOUR TIRED AND SORRY BUTTASS WILL TAKE THIS YEAR.
I'LL BE FRONT ROW AT THE STAPLE CENTER YELLING "HEY FATSO....EARN YOUR MONEY!!!!"""

Shaq would have made an amazing Left Tackle.

Sorry man, 10 years from now, when the question is asked regarding "finesse" centers, Shaq will not be on anyone's list.
You are calling Shaq's hook shot a thing of beauty?
I take nothing away from his impact and success at the center position and nothing away from his agility either...but finesse as his core strength, no way. Like a pulling guard, he could pave the road with bodies whenever it was needed....but still finish with a bucket. That equates to power, not finesse.
Posted by: Goldenarm | June 26, 2008 4:01 AM
Whoa whoa whoa!!! Dont get your panties in a bunch WTH!!! I am a loyal Laker fan & you will never hear me say F You shaq, so please stop using the Laker Nation as part of your rift towards Shaq. Bottom line is we are comparing the two great centers in their primes, not their stats!! If i were 2 bet on a 1 on 1 between the 2 my money is on the big dummy!! kareem just wouldnt be able 2 handle shaq!! The only person that has ever been able 2 contain Shaq was Barkley..
& Goldenarm you say that Shaq will never be remembered 4 his finess?? He's 1 of the best passing centers that ever played the game, so what the hell are you talking about?!?!! & if turnaround, bank, & hook shots, dont count as pure basketball skills then what are they defined as??

Shaq is done at 35
Posted by: FredJ | June 25, 2008 10:52 PM
JCaz, Kareem was the NBA finals MVP when he was 38, and won another championship at 40. He was padding his championships, not his stats.
Posted by: FredJ | June 25, 2008 10:51 PM
how can it surprise you in this double standard of a society that a fat, dumb bastard can say anything he wants and no one in "his community," will step up and say its not OK to use racial slurs, talk about how his ass smells and continue the stereotype that the only thing black people are good at is sports and crime. It certainly isn't education, business or anything that takes a brain. If not for the NBA, Shaq would be the tallest janitor in the world.
Posted by: F Shaq | June 25, 2008 8:17 PM
You know, Kareem played until he was about 70. It's no wonder his stats were so inflated. He had all of eternity to pad his stats.
Shaq will be remembered as one of the greatest Lakers of all time.
In fact, no mater what you think or say, his number will be retired and will hang on the rafters of staples one day.
Posted by: jcaz | June 25, 2008 4:05 PM
SHAQ- fat, lazy, out of shape, always hating on someone, never accountable for anything, Kobe will not say anything because he has class, Shaq will say he was misunderstood, his true feelings came out, I am glad he went to Phoenix, now I know the Suns will never get anywhere, watch, they will trade him before the end of the season, Shaq, how does feel to know that the ONLY REASON THAT YOU GOT THE LAST TITLE WAS BECAUSE OF THE MAN HIMSELF DWADE
Posted by: Robert K | June 25, 2008 4:03 PM
What do you mean that Shaq would be nothing without Gerry West? The Lakers would have been nothing without West putting together the team comprised of Shaq, Kobe and Phil Jackson. Too bad West left the Lakers several years ago. We could use him to bring in some better role players.
Posted by: New York | June 25, 2008 11:15 AM
Speaking of free throws, Kobe is an amazing free throw shooter. Yet, he does not drive to the basket nearly enough in order to go to the line. If a player is strong at the line, why not try to go to the line a lot. You get some easy baskets and at the same time put the opponent in foul trouble which will soften them up.
Posted by: New York | June 25, 2008 11:13 AM
Fred,
Does that mean that Auerbach's coaching record is a joke as well because it was in a different era? What about John Wooden's? Bill Russell did well against Chamberlain as well, plus he had to deal with living in Boston and all that entailed during that era. PLUS, Bill Russell was the head coach AND player simultaneously for a couple championships. LEADERSHIP. I think we typically overlook the intangibles and focus on talent when deciding who the most valuable players are.
Shaq was the man, though. I realize he was a crappy free-throw shooter. Heck, if he would have made close to the league average he would have dominated the scoring titles every year. BUT, Shaq would typically hit a couple clutch free throws during the 4th quarters of big games. He usually made them when they counted most. That's why hack-a-Shaq failed during the Portland and Sacramento Kings play-off battles. In Shaq's free throw defense, his shooting free throws is almost like any of us trying to throw those softballs into the metal jugs at the carnival, because his hands are so big and his release point is probably even with the basket.

without the NBA or the NFL our prison system would be overflowing with these bums at taxpayers expense. Look at Pacman, he's a millionaire criminal with a history to boot. Imus does not need any apologies.
Posted by: not a racist comment...just a fact | June 25, 2008 11:07 AM
Bill Walton and Robert Parish the best ever? Now that's funny. All of those centers you said Shaq went against would dominate the ones Kareem battled. The only quality center in that group is Wilt. Those centers are all more atheletic. Ask Parish about how his pot smoking slowed down his game
Posted by: shaq by a landslide | June 25, 2008 10:13 AM
In his prime Kareem went up against some of the best ever, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Walton, Moses Malone and Robert Parrish. Shaq went up against Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing and who else? Kareem, with his agility and skyhook, would dominate in this era too. Oh yeah, Kareem was also about a 75 percent free throw shooter

WTH,
The constant references of Shaq as a "mayate" are not only offensive but quite hypocritical. We've all got our own beliefs and opinions...that's fine. If you want to refer to black people literally as "roaches," then by all means...do what you do. Lord knows you'd NEVER say that TO a black person.
But I digress. WTH you are NO Laker fan...whatever you say, you are not a fan. Hell, you aren't a fan of virtually any sport. How could you be? Fans are just that...fanatical. Something tells me you aren't fanatical of anything African-American, and as we all well know blacks make up a large percentage of America's professional athletes. Do yourself a favor and burn all those Kobe jerseys and shirts. Toss your Lamar Odom bobblehead and PLEASE never let the words Magic Johnson ever flow from your palate.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that your an idiot, and I hope your only daughter one day comes home to tell you that your first grandchild will be named Tyrone Gutierrez or La Keisha Rodriguez or any number of black/Latino fusion names. That would be just great!!!
Posted by: Ignorance is bliss | June 25, 2008 9:30 AM
How do you compare shaq and kareem from 2 different era's? Kareem dominated in an era when there were fewer 7 footers are there are now. Kareem doesn't have the strength to stop shaq. Kareem would get his numbers but shaq would still dominate. Kareem has the better overall numbers but if they played head to head shaq would eat Kareems lunch then his dessert!
Posted by: eat kareems lunch | June 25, 2008 9:27 AM
My point is that is Shaq should never to be compared with Kareem or Bill Russel,Wilt. They were truly great people and great players. Shaq would be nothing if Jerry West was not around.
Once again from all us Laker Fans F?ck you Shaq.
Posted by: WTH | June 25, 2008 9:19 AM
Yeah but Russell wasn't a dominant offensive force. If Kareem in his prime were on those Celtics teams they would have won more championships. Besides, have you watched the old 50's and 60's games on the NBA network, I think I could have handled myself back then ;)
Posted by: FredJ | June 25, 2008 9:10 AM
If winning championships weighs heavily into the discussion of all-time greats, then Bill Russell and his 11 NBA championships in 13 years should be mentioned.
Posted by: New York | June 25, 2008 8:50 AM
freestyling is a bit like "word association". asking what's the first thing that comes to your mind? usually tells you about the person and how they really feel. while shaq may say its all in good fun - it do think it says how he really feels.

Guess who's training Bynum?
Kareem...
Players win games, teams win championships...
Players like Kobe win games, but players like Kareem and Shaq win Championships.
The rebounding in this series was prove that the Lakers need a Kareem or Shaq again!
Posted by: Via Shaq | June 25, 2008 8:33 AM
Look at that Kareem resume, that's why I keep saying when people talk about the greatest player ever, it's not Michael Jordan, it's Kareem. They won the same amount of MVP's and championships, but Kareem also played in four more championship games, won three NCAA championships, and made every team he ever played on an instant winner. On top of that he's the all-time scoring champion with the most unstoppable shot in basketball history -- the hook shot. If you were selecting a franchise player and you had a 20-year-old Jordan and a 20-year old Kareem, you'd take Kareem in heartbeat.
So, why even compare him to Shaq, there is no comparison.
Posted by: FredH | June 25, 2008 8:25 AM
What some fans fail to understand, is the game of basketball works from the inside out.. not outside in.
Nobody does it better than Shaq. Just a very big man and dominate force inside. Probably the best in a long time.
This years finals proved how a force inside wins championships.
Hopefully Bynum will develop into an outstanding center because Gasol just got slapped around all series long..

I prefer to remember the big cacti as he was - in his prime as a Laker.
The middle was no man's land, anyone driving there risked low opportunity to score and high opportunity for pain. Shaq could run back then and leap to a good degree and was pretty much unstoppable. His rap is what it is, music never was his forte, but his rap goes back many years...not some passing fancy for him. Comparisons to Kareem and others do not fit, as Shaq will never be known for finesse or pure basketball skills. When things turned physical, O'Neal looked damn good in Laker colors.
Posted by: Goldenarm | June 25, 2008 5:24 AM
Shaq may have been past his prime when the Lakers traded him, but comparing his track record with Kobe's is not even close.
Shaq has proven that he can win championships without Kobe, but Kobe has not yet proven that he can win without Shaq. The lack of leadership against the Celtics was embarassing.
Shaq took the Magic, Lakers and Heat to the Finals, winning titles with the Lakers and Heat.
What we should all remember, though, is that the Lakers probably would have won 8 consecutive championships if the NBA had not changed the rules to allow college-style defense. It's almost as if the NBA changed the rules in order to keep things competitive against the Lakers. Even though Shaq was aging, the Lakers were virtually unstoppable in the former system of one-on-one defense. Would the Bulls and Jordan have won so many titles playing against the new college-style defense? We'll never know.

DONKEY BOY YOU'RE BACK....
Funny how this world rotates sometimes, but believe it or not, im with you on this one.
I think that Shaq has every reason to hate Kobe for what he did to him. Shaq should still be a Laker and I for one wish that he were still in L.A.
He should have retired as a Laker, but Kobe ended up having it his way, and because of that, us Laker fans had to endure the bitterness of some hard times out there. All for the whims of a cry baby.
BTW, Shaq would have dominated Kareem inside the paint, but just as he did with Wilt, Kareem would have scored his points whit his sky hook.

Man alot of you shaq bashers need 2 have a beer and relax.. Shaq has been rapping since he played in Orlando. I can remember shaq and kobe freestyling when kobe was a rookie and they were talkng smack 2 each other back then.. Thats what freestyling is!!! many pro college and high school players do this in the locker rooms 2 one another.. Anyone ever seen 8-Mile?? Thats a perfect example of what Shaq was doing.. & 2 whoever said they would take kareem in his prime against shaq in his prime, umm thats just crazy... With both players in their primes it would go hands down 2 shaq, he would just be way 2 much power 4 kareem 2 be able 2 handle...

Posted by: bunch of donkeys | June 24, 2008 4:24 PM
Shaq is washed up and old and the Lakers saw it coming. Phoenix traded for old goods and Shaq is sliding fast. He will avg. 6-8 ppg next year. To call out Kareem like that was insane. Karrem would have made Shaq look bad had they played against each other in their prime. What is left for Shaq after basketball, Rapping? He is not very good at it. He will always be jealous of Kobe. Shaq is just another athlete in decline that has to get back in the spot light anyway he can even if it is to disrespect others. Kobe will have the last laugh he has so much more left in the tank then this overweight has been. Shaq should retire he cannot even run anymore. All he has is a power dunk but not much else, plus he cannot play defense as everyone runs by him. What a bad move by the Phoenix Suns. Shawn Marion is allot more valuable as a player right now then Shaq. Reffering to Biggie was so dumb I could see why the Sheriffs want his badges turned in. Biggie was a gangsta. Shaq "show me how your ass feels" ...on the bench where it belongs
