Prep Boxscores or Roundups
As we move forward and discuss new ideas, we're debating whether our readers want traditional boxscores or roundups. Back in the old days we did both, but don't have the man power to do it anymore. In recent years we've just run just boxscores on page two, but boxscores have been difficult to copy and paste online (because of coding). If we do roundups instead of boxscores, it's much easier to copy and paste short stories on the website, which gives instant updates throughout the evening, which is popular on prep websites. Roundups are also in the paper each day.

No reason to panic, we still plan on covering every game like we always have. We'll have Reg Miller helping us with the two minute drills and Friday night video games of the week. We're also putting the "Scounting Guru" to work on scouting stuff, so don't worry, our coverage won't suffer. And C'mon, don't complain about the subscription cost. At 50 cents a day, the newspaper is still the best deal anywhere!

Wait a fricken minute.... I just paid my Tribune for another year and most of that is because of the Prep Football Season coming. This is the time of year where the Tribune is a hot commodity come Saturday, sometimes even beating the delivery guy out to my driveway. Hope you guys can hang in there.

FredJ,
The visual I get at your workplace is Steve Ramirez and yourself are in a old rundown room that was once thriving with action and now is abandoned and desolate with only you two inside sweating with no air conditioning typing and answering phone calls at the same time. A.T. obviously knew enough about the newspaper situation to leave because I agree everything you describe sounds like your inevitable fate is the paper will go bankrupt and the publication will be deceased. I miss the good old days of Hunt, Morgan, and Spoon! Tell those men to preserve the paper and go "old school" and cover the preps like they did for so many golden years.

You never know, but fortunately I'm in a position they will probably keep or at least keep as long as we're covering preps. They can't downsize us anymore without completely wiping out prep coverage. If and when that day comes, I'll probably get out of the business and try something else, maybe teaching or sports public relations, not sure. But I enjoy what I'm doing so until the Titanic sinks, I'll hang on till the end.

FredJ,
There are quite a few changes occurring "behind the scenes" of the S.G.V. Tribune. Is there any risk with the financial crisis that you may lose your job? Do you have any aspirations to pursue a job like you mentor A.T. and leave for something maybe more secure that would pay a higher salary?
