Football: Top Ten Quarterbacks

We're a month away from working on the football tab, so time to start thinking about the best-of-the best at their position. With summer league finishing up, we'll start with the top quarterbacks.

1. Cameron Deen, South Hills
Nobody has raised their stock like this kid has. He's had a great spring and summer, has Pac-10 heavyweights after him, and in these parts, should tear it up. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound senior-to-be is ranked No. 35 nationally on Rivals.Com, with a 5.5 three-star rating. I'm starting to believe that South Hills should be No. 1 when the rankings come out this fall. The King of Cameron is Cameron.

2. Jose Garay, South El Monte
This is without a doubt one of my favorites. He's not going to be recruited like Deen because of his size, but if you're just talking high school, he rivals Deen and will probably put up better offensive numbers than Deen. And lets face it, Erick Escamilla is a great coach, he showed it in the all-star game and with a competitor like Garay, he will ride him all fall.

3. Chris Allen, Charter Oak
He's as good as Charter Oak needs him to be. What I mean by that is they have a great junior running back in Adam Muema, who will probably be option number one. But this is Allen's third year starting, so it will be interesting to see how many attempts he gets per game. But from a pure quarterback standpoint, he's as good as anyone around here. He threw for 1,575 yards last year, and had a 64 percent completion percentage. I bet with Muema he's going to rack up the RAC yards.

4. Terry Paradez, Bonita, Sr.
The 5-foot-10, 180 pound senior-to-be led the Miramonte in passing as a junior, throwing for 2,140 yards, 21 touchdowns and has a trio of talented receivers back in Derrick Price, Dewayne Gatti and Jiovanni Mier. This could get scary if Podley decides to open it and ride his senior QB. By the end of the season, Paradez and Garay could reach the 3,000 yard plateau.

5. Nick Lenhart, Bishop Amat, Sr.
Was very inconsistent as a junior, but so were the Lancers. From a talent standpoint, he's dangerous and with QB coach Chris Rix mentoring him, skies the limit. From all accounts the Lancers have looked great during the summer, and Lenhart is a big reason why.

6. Drew Kaluzny, Glendora, Sr.
Not sure what the Tartans will do with Kaluzny. He had a modest junior season throwing for over 1,400 yards, led the Tarts to a Sierra league crown and the quarterfinals of the playoffs, but there is a sophomore named Chad Jeffries that our scouting guru has been raving about. He says Jeffries is a Div. I prospect, and is rumored to be working with Rix as well. We'll see how this develops. But obviously a good problem for coach Pasky.

7. Oscar Robles, Northview, Sr.
Let's be honest, we hyped him up pretty good as a junior, but he struggled, throwing for just 972 yards and 10 touchdowns in an offense designed for a quarterback to put up big numbers. Maybe with a year under his belt, he'll be ready because he has all the tools and the Vikings have a lot of weapons to get him going, like Anthony Farmar and Kevin Jones.

8. Hunter Warren, Diamond Bar, Sr.
You can't blame Diamond Bar's miserable 2007 season on Warren, he finished with 1,649 yards and threw for over 100 yards in all ten games. He did throw 12 interceptions, but a lot of those came during desperate moments when games were already decided. Look for him to put up great numbers once again.

9. Angel Alejandre, Rosemead, Sr.
Threw for 1,867 yards and 14 touchdowns and will only get better. He had five games where he threw for over 200 yards and threw for 234 and 243 against Arroyo and Gabrielino, respectively.

10. Mick Kalmar, San Dimas, Sr.
He nearly threw for 1,000 yards in an offense designed to run, run, run behind Nico Barbone and Co. It should be more of the same his senior year, but what a luxury to have an experienced QB to bail you out should the run game run into problems. If anything, Kalmar will be the QB of the Mid Valley Division champion Saints.

I'm not saying who I am but I won't be sending my kid to your school.

This is plain ridiculous.

What kind of crap is going on over there?

ok, pads make all the difference. maybe not speed or smarts, but if u can't hit for shiznit in hs football u can't play. on defense if u can't make a tackle or offense break one u are no good. anyone looks good at touch with shorts and a shirt, but with pads on, the game and people get more interesting. there's kids that dont play a single down in passing league and when pads come they start because the can take several hits and keep going or because they hit the other player once and take them down. so pads do change the game alot

Playin Fav's,
Your lack of intelligence on how the high school program runs amazes me. Well concerning the source I guess it really doesn't amaze me. Your son didn't do anything at the JAA level so why would you expect him to compete at the high school level. I don't know what you are seeing out their. Sorry but pads don't give you better technique, pads don't make you faster, pads don’t help with ball control and pads definitely don't make you smarter.

Playin Fav's,

You really have a big lesson to learn about highschool football. You will see very minimal hitting drills when the pads come on. The Coaches look for talented, athletic mistake free kids. If you or your kid do not have a starting position already during summer camp, then your really in for a long season.

You know their are alot of kids that can hit or take a hit. But what really matters is what they have upstairs. Sounds to me that football is not your sport. Quit whining and make sure you cheer load from the sideline.

Kaluzny will do fine this year.Riley will have his time to prove himself next year and try and earn the starting spot after Kaluzny leaves but this is Kaluzny's year.As a senior, Kaluzny is very experienced having started all JR year for the Sierra league champs and getting split time during sophomore year.Kaluzny has a high IQ for the game and is a great athlete which will be on display this year.It is supposed to be a rebuilding year with majority of the Defense and the O-Line gone, but Kaluzny and Young are not going to let this team finish under .500 regardless the schedule.Pasquy always finds a way to plug in holes so I'm content with the Tartans and expect them to prove a lot of people wrong this year.

Crappy Coaches

Well, looks like I hit a nerve. You must be one of the "protecteds" parents, or a thin skinned coach. Either way, when the pads come on next month, the weak and "protected" will go down in pieces, and tears....

Hope your there to see it.

Playin Favs,

Good answer, Yes they do have a new Head coach. Godinez and Friez are as good as they come. They happen to be on the LA freshman coaching staff last year too.

Now let me let you in on a little secret. This isn't Junior All American anymore more.

If you "SUCK!!!" you will not play.

THAT MEANS:

NO DROP BALLS!

NO BAD PASSES!

NO MISSED TACKLES!

NO BAD SNAPS!

NO MISSED FIELD GOALS!

Thank you,

And please enjoy your highschool football experience.

XoXoXXooOOO

Playin Favs,

I would love to here where these coaches are messing up. From what I here the team looks good. I am being told that all skilled position have no weakness.

These two freshman coaches have won more CIF titles than you won games at JAA. If you don't like what you see their is always La Puente or Workman High School.

Like I said earlier, LA has picked up some of the Amat coach rejects. We know from Amat bloggers the last 2 years that they played favorites and couldn't identify and evaluate talent, so its not hard to believe they would be doing the same at LA. The bigger question is why Aguilar would brong these losers on board and with Gano still AD, he had to sign off on the hires as well. This whole situation stinks.

"Crappy Coaches"

Hey Shiite for brains. Freshman have a new head coach(s), and new assts this season. And, if you think the "best will play" you obviously haven't seen any summer practices this year.

Those crappy coaches had a 9-1 season last year.

If your kid can't start, he must not be good at all.
Bottom line best kids will play!

Okay, how about the crappy coaches on the LA Frosh team?

enough about the LA quarterbacks
change the subject

Way to go Mr. Perez. And LA Insider, your name is?

(chirp,chirp, chirp)

Three Cheers for Mr.Perez!! Gets called out by name and comes out swinging! 6....7....8! Ding-ding! Knock out!! This should be a positive blog for athletes! Calling out players and family is missing the point! Especially when you are hiding behind a username yourself! Best of luck to the QB's @ LA. I've seen both, met the families and the comments about both are not helping either one! SGV's got some good football teams and looking forward to seeing them play. Friday night lights!! Prep sports don't get any better!

Nicely said by Mr.Perez he speaks the whole truth. 100% right. it's sad how people like LA insider use these public blogs to put people down. and CONQUEROR PARENT is right, the coaches are there to coach and the kids to play and win. stop talking smack about the lefty and zamano, we all know what is going to happen come fall. all those players who got a spot on the team should try to keep it when pads come, we all have seen the type of kid who does incredible at touch but is afraid of the hit. and i know for sure that people like LA insider are going to talk smack about being afraid of the hit when pads come and someone gets taken out because they can't hit. LA insider should carefully watch what he/she types on this blog. it would be nice to hear something good for a change and not stuff like "zamano performs better than longoria" or "mr. perez you failed at your pathetic shot, let your son live a normal life" at least when Mr. Perez speaks he makes the whole thing clear, so dont comment on theses blogs unless you have something nice to say

LA Insider,

By the way i never complained one bit when my son was al LA for you to say that i'm hidding behind diffrent screen names I don't need to do that. My son was not happy at LA anymore and I had to think about the move we made. We don't regret anything at LA we have lots of friends that we will cheer on. When I hear that someone is putting me and my son down I had enough, and by the way this if the first time I have ever gone on this blog. I personally don't beleive in berating kids or putting down coaches on these public forums. Coaches make the final decissions on personnel. People always thought my son should have started but like i told my son accept it and play where you are needed the most and will help the team the most. I was told by many to talk to the coaches but again that is not my style to question the coaches or be near the coaches I was at most all practices and sat in the bleachers away from coaches and enjoyed it. If I have something to say to someone I will say it to their face not hide using a screen name like you as you as you can see that I used my name. So layoff by calling me and my son names you are an adult I hope. Please don't drag me or my son into these dumb ass comments we have moved on and we don't have anything bad to say about anybody at LA. Thank you

I never said Zamano was great under pressure. I never even said he was good! All I said was that he was better than Longoria under pressure.

When the two were competing this summer (I consider competing for a starting job to be pressure) Zamano was clearly the better of the two. Longoria regularly choked on simple things like reading safeties and linebackers, completing flat patterns, rolling out the correct way and even calling plays correctly. Here's the funny thing, now that the pressure of competing with Zamano is gone, Longoria looks 10 times better! He's actually relaxed and starting to perform on these simple tasks.

You are absolutely right on one issue though and that's questioning Zamano's desire to play if he can't pass enough classes to play. I know the kid, he's not stupid, just lazy in the classroom.

LA Insider,
You talk about evaluating talent. The one fact that you are way off on is Based on past history of Zamono all the way back to his Junior All American years and as recently as last year, the knock on Zamono is he doesn't perform under pressure. Even some of his strongest supports will atest to that. Unless you are trying to say these 7on7 are presure on the quarterback, which I will strongly disagree with. Whats real interesting the kid needs to pass one class during the summer and gets an "F". How bad did he really what the job. I starting to wounder if his family wanted it more than him.

Some thoughts from the Insider:

1) Longoria looked MUCH better today at Mountain View. Then again he was throwing against Mountian View, Gladstone and Azusa. Not exactly what one would consider a solid measuring stick. But he's improving, I'll give him that.

2) Contrary to accusation I am not on the LA coaching staff. UNCLE huh? Good guess, but NO. I do have a close relationship with a few of them though, hence the "Insider tag"

3) I think it's hilarious how you dumbasses question the talent evaluation of a man who won 4 CIF titles. If Gano thought Tamayo was the best QB last year I'm sure that was the case. Then again, maybe you Saturday Morning QB's can evaluate talent better than Gano. What are your credentials? How many CIF titles have you won? What college did you play at?

4) It's funny...I was accused of being a coach because of "the language I use when describing the Quarterback position". YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A COACH TO UNDERSTAND IDEAS LIKE READING PREGRESSIONS AND PERFORMING UNDER PRESSURE! The simple fact that you made such an assumption shows your utter lack of football knowledge and makes your criticism of the Los Altos coaching staff and their talent evaluation that much more of a joke.

5) Mr. Perez...stick to one screen name, stop telling everyone how good your son is, and let him live a normal life. You failed at your pathetic shot, don't live vicariously through him, that's just sad and you're doing your son a disservice.

This "great staff" that LA has assembled includes coaches that were canned from Amat. Lousy sloppy seconds is all that is and we know they cant prepare a team to win. So what the hell? BTW the only QB worth their salt at LA last year IS playing at the D1 college level this year. So much for Gano evaluating talent.

COACH FELIPE WILL DO JUST FINE, HE HAS A GREAT COACHING STAFF OF VETERANS AND YOUNG COACHES. HE IS FAIR WITH THE KIDS ON THE FIELD BY GIVING ALL THE KIDS A CHANCE TO PROVE THEIR WORTH. BUT TO TALK ABOUT GAME TIME, HE NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO TALK TO THE KIDS TO GET THEM PUMPED AND MOTIVATED TO WIN. TELL THEM WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR "LET'S HAND THEIR ASSES TO THEM, SENIORS, THIS IS PROBABLY THE LAST TIME U GET TO PLAY SO MAKE THE BEST OF IT, OR LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FIELD, GO HOME SAYING 'I DID ALL I COULD THERE IS NOT ONE THING THAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TONIGHT I PLAYED MY HARDEST, BEST AND DID ALL I COULD' " IS SOMEWAT WAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. AND TELL THEM ABOUT WORKING HARD AND THAT "PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" REMEMBER COACH THAT YOU DONT WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP/S ALL BY YOURSELF, THE KIDS ARE THE ONES THAT GET DOWN AND DIRTY, KEEP THAT IN YOUR MIND, IT IS THE KIDS AND ONLY THE KIDS WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON THE FIELD, BUT YOU ARE THE ONE THAT TRAINS AND PREPARES THEM TO GO OUT THERE AND WIN BATTLES. SO YOU MAKE A DIFERENCE ON YOUR PLAYERS, AND THE TAKE IT WITH THEM ON THE FIELD.

LA insider,

the only way longoria will ever be "all we are craking him up to be" is if the coaches work on him, and anther thing i want to clear up...the kid LA lost was no cancer he was more of a leader than any of the other kids that are captains, everyone respected him and looked up to him, he would have started last year over tamayo, because he has a real good arm(though not as strong as "the lefty" but he has better aim) he was accurate and had better reads, if gano wasn't a hard-head to go back on his decision, but he saw the seaon go down the toilet so i wouldnt blame him. seeing cocky-ass zamano out for the first six weeks of school aguilar and his staff should focus on working with longoria so he can learn to aim his cannon better, and the receivers need better hands. i dont know if aguilar has the gano trait(to spot talent when he sees it) so we can't say he is playing with his best. all i can say is GOOD LUCK LOS ALTOS ... SHOW LA DOESN'T GO 2-8 ... AND BRING THE WHEEL BACK HOME WHERE IT BELONGS.

Remember the name....BP's Andy Salcido, the kid is solid.

LA Insider (that's the question),

THE REAL BIG MISTAKE HERE, IS LONGORIA SHOULD OF STARTED LAST YEAR!

It would be a huge mistake not letting Longoria get the nod this year.

Almost like not letting Bret Farve start for the Green Bay Packers!

LA Insider,
You sound like one of the coaches based on the language you use when describing the quarterback position. I only know of one coach on that staff that would be making these comments, all I will say is “uncle”.

You have to be joking if you are trying to say that Longoria didn’t look good out their yesterday and he look great at the practice on Tuesday. The receivers do need some work, but the surprise in the receiving core is Longoria’s little brother, not consistent but has great hands only a sophomore.

hey, LA Insider, i was at the los altos passing league LAST NIGHT too and thought longoria did well. canon arm baby. he read the defense well, his rcvers needs to start catching the ball. what really stood out was the kids attitude on the field much better, now that longoria is at the helm. which i did not see with zamano. i saw the zamano kid on the side lines too, shouldnt he be at home reading, doing addition, subtraction, multiplications, or something like that to get his grades up? isntead hes on the sidelines doing nothing? and will do nothing for six weeks after school starts and then who knows after that. good job dad, thats the way to guide him....go los altos! dont hate! its your own fault!

LA insider,

"First of all, you're wrong. The Zamono Kid is much better than Longoria. Reads his progressions better, has a more consistent arm, and performs better under pressure."

this is all bull, the zamano kid doesnt perform better under pressure, didnt you see the damian JV GAME. kid was at the 1 yard line and folded cuz he didnt know what to do with the ball!!! now the longoria kid is much better, he is a calm kid and isnt a cocky ass like zamano. from what i hear the kids get along with longoria more and talking aboutthe kid they lost, where did he end up going??? and this kid was a hard worker and leader on the field, he would of helped the team out alot. obviuosly you arent a LA insider cuz would know that! if that kid was worthless and a cancer why did the teammates look up to him and why did the coaches depend on him to lead the defence and offence. by the way, last years team wanted this kid who backed up castenada his sophmore year to start at QB. this kid is a class act and got along with everyone. good luck to the longoria kid i know he'll do better than zamano.

GO LA FOOTBALL

Was at Los Altos today for their passing 4-way. I was hoping to see Longoria take the reigns and impress. Ummm, that's not excatly what happened.

Los Altos has a loooong way to go and losing Zamano didn't help. Let's hope their running game is solid because their passing game is sub-par.

Who said J.McLanahan was looking good, have you seen him in the last few Amat passing leagues? Stick to baseball or wideout son. What they should do is groom the sophomore he has a nice arm.

Fred,
Does Arroyo have anyone to replace Partida ? How are they looking for the up-coming season.

LA Insider,

You are an Idiot, even if Zamano kid got staight D's he would not be eligiable to play he would have a 1.43 gpa even with an A in football. Must be cocky like his dad is and for his dad to not monitor his grades that shows what comes first "sports" not achademics. what a disgrace all that hype for nothing. Demitri hope you tear it up show them that u are the right man for this Job, make everyone who doubted you eat their words. They should not even let the Zamano kid practice anymore just takes reps away from who they really need to concentrate on.

football spy, how can a kid with a below 2.0 read a better football field, remember plays, listen to his coach, lead a team? he better get the grades, books straight first. dont you agree. and, lets wait and see when the pads go on, zamona is scared of the HIT!...i guess you have not seeing or know any of the longoria boys...i have followed all three now, with the youngest a soph fighting for a rcvr position on the varsity team.....i like the ring longoria to longoria for 20...dont be hating, punk a_ _ ! also, its hard to compete for a position when daddy is a coach. this kid longoria has been fighting from day one for what he deserves! ITS HIS TURN NOW! go los altos!

Cooper and Peralta? Their parents cant stand each other due to the heated competition, but why ? your asking for your kid to get smasjed and killed out there. Walnut has nothing this year and their lines O AND D is sorry a-- mess. Rhodes is only one man but the balance of the team overall is weak and they may only win one game again this season. It is so bad in Mustang Land that they are asking for volunteers to try out for the football team. I hate to see the score when they play So. Hills.

V.V.L.

What do you think one game at a time means.

Do they teach you anything over at NV?

Don't start popping off about the Saints unless you know what you're talking about. Remember, you guys pooped off alot last year before the game..

Oscar Robles is not related to the Robles from B.P. in the 80's early 90's Although there is a Robles that will be attending B.P. As a incoming freshman.

other underclass qb's

Walnut austin cooper and tommy peralta, a real battle for the starting spot. hopefully it does not get political and just goes on talent and not booster club participation.

Diamond Ranch, gus viramontes has had a real good passing league this summer and should do well, although not pressed by the other jr derek goodwin because of baseball (usa nationals, area codes tryouts). goodwin led the jv in td passes whereas viramontes provided more run threat last year.

LA Football Fan,

One more thing, the kid who LA "lost" was worthless. He was a cancer and wasn't going to help them ONE BIT! Horrible work ethic and complete lack of discipline. Good riddance to him and his idiot old man.

Oscar Robles at Northview, does anyone know if he is related to the Robles quarterback from BP in the early 90"s?

LA Football Fan,

Can you read dude? It's not about giving anyone a chance anymore. Longoria's got the job because Zamono couldn't take care of business in the class. So stop bitching and bashing the coaching staff. Now that he has the job let's see what the kid can do with it.

On a similar note, How hard is it for a kid to maintain a freakin 2.0 GPA? I mean come on! YOu get an automatic A for Athletics, you just need to get D's in all your other classes to stay eligible.

Seriously Young Mr. Zamano...you should be ashamed of yourself. You let your team down son.

the lefty longoria has a cannon and no one can argue with that. all he needs is a good coach that can make him a better qb that can throw a better ball. he's also very athletic, strong, fast, and experienced. it would e shamefully sad if the coaches wont give him a chance juss because he is left handed and it would be a shame if LA lost him too because the new coach doesnt like souh paws. they already lost a good kid because the new coach didnt like him and denied him a chance. everyone has been saying that the lefty should get his chance and it is his senior year ... let him have it, if he was to get a good coach there is no doubt he would be on this list.

by the comments left below it looks like gano needs to get involved back with the program.

Open Your Eyes,

First of all, you're wrong. The Zamono Kid is much better than Longoria. Reads his progressions better, has a more consistent arm, and performs better under pressure.

Not that any of this is going to matter because I heard from a good source today that Zamano didn't make grades and will be ineligible for the season. So you just got your wish! Longoria is the unchallenged starter for Los Altos this year. Let's see if he's all you're cracking him up to be.

one game at a time,
lets just wait and see how the regular season turns out first before you go claiming that c.i.f. title

V.V.L.

You bet VVL! Like Fred said, there set up very nicely with alot of talent...

mid-valley division champion saints? r u kidding me

Re: L.A. Times article,

This just goes to show the sad state of high school sports in this modern time. Whatever happened to the concept of "team"? I blame the parents for all this and it's not just in football, it's EVERY sport. With these "club" teams and such, the parents sell their kid to the highest bidder.

Is Lenhart that good or is this a politics move on Amats part with Rixs as his side mentor. There looks to be a taller kid throwing for Amat in one these videos, and are any of the musical Chair QB's mentioned in the L.A. Times planning on giving Amat a inquiry.?

Don,

Herd the Willison Kid at St. Paul blew out his MCL during baseball and is out for the season. I think If he where to stay healthy he would take the job at St.Paul he is clearly the best QB they have. Hope he recovers 100% for next year.

Kalmar is a very good running QB... but his arm is really marginal. The good news is, he has a great O-Line in front of him. This should be the strongest year ever for the Saints and they have a number of youngsters who will warrant D1 attention.

Hey Fred...have you seen the article in the LA Times about the QB's playing musical chairs. Any of them considering Amat?

Bogan Fan,

The kid you asked about transferred and is doing well at St Paul.

He finished the BB season as the Swordsmen's #B and made 2nd team all league.

There was a WDN blog last week from Roger Murray stating he was in the running for the SPHS QB job this year.

Good luck.

Deen is also one of Rix's top students...

Chris is as good as it gets, and with his returning linemen Perri, 6'4" 240 and Williams, 6'4" 250 both three year starters called the bookends ofensive teams look out.

SGV Scouting whats ur view on the 3 wideouts from SHHS?

This is the first time that I've viewed FJ's list and I am impressed. He has a point of view of the fan in the stands, so his take maybe a bit different than from ours. But for the most part, we have no issues with his top 10.

He makes an absolutely great point in regards to Garay. As a HS QB, he is very good. But from a college perspective, in a year that has a lot of quality of depth at the QB position, he just doesn't fit in with the big boys. But we wish him the best of luck.

In regards to Deen, his grades are more than acceptable. All I can tell you is that he's going to be fine. He'll get his offer and whoever gets him gets one heck of a quarterback. Our final words will for this post are to read the following analysis from Greg Biggins of Student Sports Magazine after watching Deen at the Edison Tournament on Saturday. The entire article can be viewed on ESPN.com. Maybe, just maybe our eye is pretty good.

For years, the Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison seven on seven passing tournament has been a great opportunity to see some of the top football talent in Southern California, and this year was no exception.

The Edison Chargers ended up defeating Valencia (Calif.) 39-18 to win their own tournament, but the outcome of the tournament is always secondary. Here's a look at who stood out on Saturday, including a handful of players from the Class of 2010 who will definitely be high Division I prospects in two years.

Cameron Deen, 6-3, 190 QB Covina (Calif.) South Hills
Deen was very impressive all day, and he showed he has very nice upside. He has a long, lanky frame he's still growing into, and he's not close to physically peaking. He may have had the quickest release in the tournament; his arm was live and he was very accurate. Deen spins it very consistently, and this was easily the best he's thrown this spring or summer. He is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, but whomever brings him in will be getting a steal.

(and here is one for the future)

Ify Umodu, 6-3, 185 DB Covina (Calif.) South Hills Umodu has two older brothers playing at the Div I level (Tobi-UCLA, Kebin-Air Force) and is by far the best athlete in the family by a wide margin. He projects as a receiver, safety or even corner at the next level and made several athletic plays all tournament long. At his size, Umodu has good speed and hips, is a physical player and like just about every player out of the South Hills program, plays with a nasty streak on the field. At receiver, he has excellent hands and adjusts well to the ball.

Fred:

Heard Mier is not playing football this year. Sticking full time with BB

Lets hope Allen can get things going this year....with a long line of good ones at the QB position for CO( Strycula, Disney, Rangel, Valenzuela, Perri), he needs to cement his name with those one. I wonder though...which one is the best?

This past weekend @ Edison HS was a great weekend for the contingency from South Hills. With Deen leading the way (his gpa is 3.2) and Umodu, Roddy and Vaughn, they lost in the semis to Valencia. Along the way, they defeated Tesoro, Murrieta Valley, Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran where they ran out of gas due to lack of depth! This group however is still in my opinion, ONE of the best on the west coast.
I wrote about them after the Elite 11 camp in Vegas and am following them up here for all of you. They shined brightly and in a head to head with Barkley from MD, Deen was brilliant. He will start receiving offers in the fall and they will come in bundles.
As for that receiving crew, Umodu and Vaughn are very athletic and quick, but the one who impressed me the most was Roddy. A very good route runner with excellent hands. Umodu is a Division 1 receiver as we speak, Vaughn is working on it, his game is also very good at the corner and Roddy is a very reliable weapon.
This group impresses me more and more every time I see them.
In one of the biggest weekends for passing tournaments with very stiff competition, that group had us all talking!

how about some more talk about the heart and soul of these football teams...the lineman. what about the top ten lineman in the valley. personally i'm tired of hearing about all the passing leagues and stuff. the games are won in the trenches

Fred,
Who has offered Deen from D1 schools.I here his GPA is holding them back from any good offers.

Whatever happened to the QB from South Hills that transferered to St. Paul?

He would hae gotten alot more looks playing behind Deen and FOR Bogan. Hopefully he pans out at St. Paul but why did he leave exactly? Anyone know?

By the way didn't South Hills play against Cathedral a couple of times? Wonder how they matched up against that Cathedral speedster Carroll?

Anyone have any thouhts on those games?

Lenhart isn't even the best QB at Amat. Jerry McClanahan is way better. Hopefully Amat coaches will open their eyes or McClanahan might just become a full time baseball player.

I agree with open your eyes, they have been very unfair at LA with the QB's they also lost a kid that was very athletic and can throw he was the back up as a soph for Castaneda and his Jr year did not even get a chance. But the langoria kid should get the nod but wont because they will give the nod to the Zamano kid. LA will have a really bad year and it will get worst before it gets better. they need a coach with experience that that can attract kids to come play for him. As an Alumni i'm very dissapointed that Gano let us down this road.

congratz to cam on the top 35 list he is a legit qb and a great kid. im expecting a huge year from this kid, with the 3 wide recievers he has. he will dominate secondaries and lead this team a long long way!

KALUZNY DESRVES MORE LOVE, HE THROWS A VERY NICE TOUCH BALL, VERY CATCHABLE, HIS RECEIVERS LOVE HIM, AND HAS BEEN BLOWING UP TEAMS IN THE PASSING LGS. JEFFRIES IS STILL INTO HOW HARD HE CAN THROW THE BALL, AND VERY IMATURE AT THIS POINT IN HIS HIGH SCHOOL CAREER, HIS YEAR WILL BE NEXT YEAR, IF GHS IS GONNA WIN 7 GAMES THIS YEAR, IT WILL BE WITH KALUZNY

there is a kid at los altos by the name of dimitri longoria brother of nick longoria, hes a south paw that has a gun, but no coach, now! he will probably not get the chance he deserves, because the new head coach does not like south paws....shame. what kind of head coach he does not like??? the kid can play! i have seen him since he was a freshman, with the same coach he has now. shame, gano where you at? you can spot talent when you see it.....dont let it happen to this kid too!

Is anyone going to mention the BIG WHITE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM? Or should I say the "missing" big white elephant that NOT in the room.

Remember this name. Ethan Betance. He will throw for 2500 yards and 18 TDs this year and lead the Spartans to a League Championship.

COHS, can you read? Didn't I say this is Allen's third year starting? And Muema will be the No. 1 option on offense, I didn't say his No. 1 receiving option. Just read it a couple times and it will sink in ... I hope.

"he's as good as charter oak needs him to be" you moron chris allen has been the quarterback for two years and your saying adam muema is going to be his first option...well you were wrong all season last year hope you can get some things right this year
