South Hills 2, Amat 1?

View from the sidelines: I was busy with the video camera, but that was the score whispered to me in what seemed like just an informal game of touch football at Thursday's passing league game between South Hills and Bishop Amat. Nobody keeps score, the winners just nod and wink afterward. South Hills looked better all the way around, but like everyone says, it's just a passing league game. Whatever it was, South Hills was more polished and QB Cameron Deen had everything to do with it. When talent and confidence come together, you've got something and that was the difference between Deen and the three QB's auditioning at Amat. Deen started five-for-five, marched down the field and moved it around with ease for the most part. Of the three Amat QB's, sophomore Josiah Thropay probably had the best day, and looks like the most natural QB. But senior incumbent Nick Lenhart is still the man to beat out, with Jerry McLanahan not far back. All of them had their moments, but I think the Amat coaches are waiting for one of them to step forward and not look back. Right now you see three guys who seem to be looking over their shoulder too much.
Tomorrow I'll post video interviews with both coaches, along with highlights from the game.

I apologize for the things said earlier. but ive been around this program a while and this is one of the best amat teams were gonna face. they have a great number of d-1 athletes Sheldon Price, Brent Seals, Darien Johnson, and Isaiah Bowens, we're gonna have our hands full in this one

J Gener: 2nd team all league
A bar: loyola's best runningback, give me a break he's no where near as good as described

D.Johnson and J. Gener may be small but they bring the wood. Actually D.Johnson is 5'8 170 and predicted to be one of the best corners around in the year of 2010

Vaughns has alot of growing up to do. He would be better if his father would stay out of the coach's and faculties ear.

GEOFF VAUGHNS IS NOT GOING TO TEAR THE TEAM APART SO GET OFF THE KID.HE IS REALLY A GOOD PERSON AND VERY COMPETITIVE,AND WILL STEP UP TO ANY CHALLENGE

South Hills & La Habra have always been a close game, last year was an exception, personally I think if they met at the end of the season it would have been a closer game.

Thanks again,,,,

You are correct,,,the Freshman and J.V. squads have gone undefeated the past two seasons, '06 and '07.

I will be a dandy. I hope Coach Mazzotta and Coach Bogan continue to re-new the contract.

FWY Fan,

No track around the field and the seating hence is closer to the field. Good place to watch a game. Parking kinda sucks. They have a dirt parking lot and also the street out side. Get to West covina early, go to BJ's for a couple of cold ones or to eat. It will be a good game but LH is so well coached and I understand their Fresh. JV and Varsity all went undefeated last year...man what a program.

Thanks for the input fellas! I plan to be there for the big game.

I've never been to District Field. How is it? Any recommendations?,,,parking, seating, is there a track around the field?

I will give you that Dorain Wells caused more trouble for SH's than he was worth.
He was also the reason SH's lost to LH. Without him SH's is a much better all around team. Wells never let the team come together. You watch SH's is going to have the same trouble with J.Vaughns. I will still put T.Olsen up against anyone. If what you say is true Deen better get to know who can save him like W.Guass and D.Behr they will at least help him Move the ball. LH and SH will be a great game.

I have seen your O-line SH and they are very young and inexp. Deen will get sacked allot or rush his passes only to get lots picked off or lots incompleted. LH Highlanders same results as last year even with Your team coming to District Field. Even with the so called almighty Dorian Wells last year you punked SHHS. It will be easier this year. La Habra 36 SH 12

You guys are clueless, SH has plenty of experience and size, and it all starts with TY Olsen guy is strong, big and fast. Deen is going to have plenty in front of him.

Runner or Gunner,

Not sure if that's your screen name?

I'm a LH homer and was looking to see what type of match up La Habra and South Hills will have week two. I know the SH QB is a talented athlete and he has some good skills guys to throw to, but if what you say about the O-line is true, he might be in for a long night.

IMHO, it all starts in the trenches. The OL and DL mean a lot in a match up.

Any input?

I will tell you now. So Hills has no exp. on the O-line. Will be intresting to See Deen get time with that O-line. Hope he can run as well.

You mean SH's actually has talented players on the team that belong in the district. Way to go SH's. I think Deen lives around the corner too.
It would be great to see a couple of local boys succeed.

wp,

In the case of Dakota Behr, Bogan found him around the corner.

Dakota walks to school.

Husky pride, I seen him score a touch down and he did not miss a pass. Looked pretty good. Big guy too, looks the type to get you more yards after the pass.
Where does Bogan keep finding his talent?

Behr does not dislike football last year he started and got injured and rehaped with the JV's. He led his team in all stats his freshmen year. The kid is an all around stud. He holds a CIF ring in wrestling and started for the SH baseball team that went to the CIF finals, all as a sophmore. If Bogan uses him smartly Behr is a game changer. He is the one they call money.

wp

that is Dakota Behr and u r right he is very fast in my opinion faster than vaughns, roddy, and townes but his hands are mediocre at best and he just doesnt like football. hes a very talented wrestler too

Husky pride, Glendora looked pretty good. They may have even had better recievers. This would be a good match up in pads. Does anyone know who was the new receiver for the Husky was white boy about 6'2" about 190lbs and as fast as any receiver SH's has, had great hands?

Can anyone tell me about the South Hills vs Glendora passing league i wasnt able to make it. Anyone know how it went?

pancho. dont forget about the families who pump out 10 kids and never heard of using contraceptives. This would explain the growth in the hispanic population and other minority cultures.

people come here to celebrate "THEIR" nationalism. never american nationalism. mexico, chinese, japanese, egyptian, etc... but our government has allowed it and "THEY'VE" taken advantage of it. that's why the country's going to hell in a handbasket!

as far as football goes... can't wait for the fall

Donkey boy, Barrio Boy, and all you other "drive by posters..."

Come on now...Give us a break on the bashing and lets talk sports.

You know, there is allways someone in here that takes the cheap shot and call's the Amat folks, fat hispanics, drinking beer and being Radier fans etc..

Man, what a life you people lead. You guys seldom ever post anything of value. In fact, it seems that you guys are allways "the scratch that responds to the itch."

When ever an Amat topic comes online (the itch), you guys go nuts (the scratch).

It's cause and effect right ? Just like Pavlov's dogs responding to stimulus.

Mouths that are salivating at the anticipation of "smack."

FOOTBALL FAN

Discuss the projection of how many will be illegals.

12+ million and counting..

Ah hell there goes the neighborhood, but in this case their goes our Country.

I don't have problems with hispanics, Salvadorans, Guatalmatecos, Mexicans, Peruvians etc., it's the new wave of immigrants that disrespect our American flag, that don't care to learn to understand our language, embrace our culture and study our constitution and history. It's those people that come speeding down the neighborhood in their 24 inch rims blaring Ranchero music, that god knows are music made for womanizing durnkards. It's does people that wave the Mexican Flag but don't cut their grass and have two junked out cars parked in their driveway. There should be a law against these kind of people.

I'd like to point a few things out:

We are "Americans of Mexican, Salvadorian, Guatemalan, etc..." descent.

The U.S. Government has projected that by the year 2050, 1/3 (33.3%) of the ENTIRE U.S. population will be of Hispanic descent. Moreover, it 's projected in less than 20 years, over 1/2 (50%) of California's population will be of Hispanic descent.

According to these figures, there will be "Mexicans" pounding down beers in your local high school eventually. So what do you say we just get along.

Amat,

"What have you done for me lately" "ooh-oohooh-yeah"

old whining,
It is real easy to come on here and bash us but on what grounds do you get to say what you say . I can see if your team was an all world beater but you won't even acknowledge what school you root for but you come on here and knock AMAT . At least with us you know where we are coming from and maybe that makes us easy targets so be it . Up or down we will always have the majority of people against us. If we lose it is we are has beens or if we win it is because we should because we get all the talent. Either way in your eyes you will still hate us .

once upon a time: dont waste your time debating the old men of amat. They love to live in the past and the only arguement they can come up with is to talk about why other local schools wont play them. It's pretty simple. D1 team vs D6 team or lower. It SHOULD be an easy win for amat. Stop using that arguement. it's old and tired like you amat fans.

Amat can pull players in from all over where most local schools only get local kids. These lame asses will always come up with some sort of excuse to explain why the only D1 team in this area who still hasnt done sh**.

Once upon,

We don't compare ourselves to anyone in the valley, never have. If you can recall everyone calls us out that they can beat us. That's when we say, "Let's rcok".

OK, we are the only D1 school in the valley, that's a pretty big area to represent but what does it tell you? The ENTIRE SGV isn't worth spit when it comes to football. What's the next division, 5 or 6? What a gap in talent and performance.

Another thing, you seem to know a lot about our crowd and hamburger truck. I'm guessing you've been to quite a few of our games and have joined those fans in the parking lot so next time, you're buying.

BTW, if we are so bad, what has YOUR school done lately?

Amat 73,

Fact of the matter is you are supposed to compete at the PAC5 D1 level and not measure yourself against the D6,7,8,9, of the SGV. Beating your surrounding schools means NADA!. stepping up and winning your league once in awhile or going deep in the playoffs of winning a championship every 3-5 years then we are talking. As much smack as how Amat is better then everyone else your team has not proven shyt in a long time. You should beat all your neighborhood area schools of the SGV your D1. As the only D1 when will you ever win and bring SGV a title of the Pac5........UHHHHGH I THOUGHT SO. answer that one Johnny come lately?

once upon,
No what drives people crazy is that no matter how bad we are thought to be in the eyes of the haters is that no one in the SGV can seem to step up and beat us. As everybody states we no longer get the talent ,we are PAC -5 doormats , lousey coaching ,and whatever else you come up with the fact remains you just can't beat us. Which is why most of you fail to mention who you root for because you have more than likely been on the losing end when you play us. Because really and be honest with yourself here when was the last time a local team beat the shyt out of us as you say.

Lets see Amats the best SGV football team because of what.:

Best record..no.

Best coach..Definite No.

Most recent Champ. No

Most D1 schollies. No

Best Fan base. Yes, but why? See above.....must be that in and out burger truck at their games that is drawing people or the Boozing in the parking lot. Plus 1/2 the fans are Raider fans, so consider this "the best" thug fans. Alcoholics too.

What drives people crazy about this program is that they are SGV only D1 program, but is that enuf to keep pouring your hearts out over. They have not proven shyt in over 13 years. got close a couple of times along the way but this is a storied past thats all. The next great one may come along someday but as of the last decade Amat has been quiet and will remain quiet. There is nothing over there anymore but a bunch of shyt talking Intoxicated before the game Mexicans that cannot muster up a winning season. Lots of fans attend Amat games I will give you that, but they are there to see the opponent kick the shyt out of Amat.

at 3-7 amat isnt beating anyone these days

nothing better,
Now finally the truth comes out. Just as we suspected another disgruntled hater with deep emotional issues. I am sure you feel much better now that you have vented your inner demons. It is too bad you have no pride in your school but we knew that along . As much as you feel it is a joke ,what you posted is more than likely how you really feel because one or if not all of those things did happen to you at one time. You forgot one , a Lancer probably took your girlfriend away from you.

I despise Amat because you guys beat the holy crap out of us. I hate you guys for humiliating us. I hate you guys cause I wasn't good enought to play for your team. So here I am having nothing good to say about you guys so I need to vent my frustration even further and bring racism into my argument so now I'm just gonna call you guys the barrio boys from La Puente.

signed,

Boo Hoo
I won't name my school, because we plain out suck.

Well the problem or issue is that the good majority of you Amat bashers deep done inside in places you dont want to talk about - do not want to reveal your teams because they feel inadequate and are not too sure about their school or individual accomplishments -so it's better or should I say safe to remain anonymous at any rate all that matters is whats on the scoreboard at the end of the game any solid player/parent or fan with class and/or heart from ANY high school understands that concept

why do these amat lame ass fans always want to know who our team is when we bash those barrio boys? is that really important to know since the topic is amat? No it's not. The teams we root for is not relevant. We can't help it that you amat fans root for a sucky ass team.

5-6? you give them too much credit. its 3-7 from the barrio boys again this year.

Anti-Lancer

Come on now. Give me a break with the latest "Drive By Post" will ya.

People like you come in here every day and go off on Amat and say one silly thing after another, but never say who they root for.

At least Cub fan has my respect, because at least he is telling us who his team is. He is willing to come in here and go toe to toe with us and wear his schools colors with pride on his chest.

When someone comes in here and acts like a foolish coward like you, then I lose respect for him.

But when a bloger is willing to play on an even field (IE no drive by posting), then he shows allot more testicular fortitude than you will ever have.

Grow a set dude, then talk the talk.

disclaimer:i am not a lancer fan, but i do believe when the lancers are go it is better for this area

South Hills really come on now! Just Stop it!
If this were a real game Bishop Amat would win by about 14-21 points....A couple of years ago the most "talented" team in the sgv by the name of Charter Oak thought a lot like you Huskies do...they thought they could play and beat the Lancers will 35-0 later they found out it is not the starters that they could not hang with but the depth was to much for them....the depth is just to much...i mean when guys who were role players at amat are tansfering out and becoming starts are other area schools that says something about the depth at amat....people stop being that little league parent where the team your son plays on is the best, just knock it off...that is not reality....what is reality in-till you pad it up against amat and beat them you have no room to talk down about them...anyways South Hills beat a real team for a title and then talk smack...beating the likes of Orange and San Gabriel is not exactly like beating the cream of the crop..one more thing about this no public school sgv team has beat Amat in over 20 years...that is pretty dominant! Oh but Huskies you guys will smash Northview probably by 28

Big Dawg,
Gener and Johnson are very small for Pac5 competition, but we will see wont we. Working out or not they have no stretch pills for them. When Amat starts out 0-2 losses at Los Osos and O-luthren the boo birds will come out and Hagerty like Verti will start to get slammed and ripped here. Face the music Amat is a has been and is not going anywhere this year. Same story every year. The coach, the monsignor, the AD, blah blah blah. You do not have the players anymore and surrounding schools studs are staying at their local publics, this is not the 90's anymore. Its over! get it! Getting a new coach has had a uplifting effect on the energy level around your campus and with your fans, but you still have to play the games and when you start to lose and the energy deflates then all the ripping will come out. That is the modern day Amat fan base. Stay tuned, you are a 5-6 team at best this season.

jcaz & cub fan,
We play each other this year November 1st, just hold tight until that game and then you both can continue your battle although I don't believe cub fan will be seen anytime soon after the game.

jcaz,

De la Salle yes romped us but what is your point you think with that 2 year Verti stint you guys would have fared any better. Yes we play them this year again and they are a awesome team, I remember the last time Amat went up north to play Concord DLS wasn't it like 48-0 C-DLS. C-DLS is a machine no doubt. Kepp reliving your 1995 championship because you will not win another one for a long time. may take a additional 10 years.

Sevenduece

It's allway's Amat vs the world my friend. Haven't you ever noticed ?

Cub Fan,

I was at that game against OL last year and yes the team was very poorly coached, IE the fake special team plays etc.

But I don't hear you talking about you're wipe out game at the hands of De LaSalle last year, and I don't hear the same smack talk about how you're going to beat them with that gifted athelete of your's this time arround. Is this selective smack talking here or what ?

Anyway, tell us please what happend there last year ? Or better yet, tell us about what's going to happend again this year in the De LaSalle game.

Different year, same result right ? At least with Amat, we know that we have a good chance of beating our opponents this year and we are n ot relying on just one running back to make or brake our season.

BTW, if you have a chance, go on the CalPres web page and see what you're coach said about the Amat game over the last two years.

I found it very funny how he singled out Amat over Crespi and Notre Dame in his comments.

SAFETIES RULE:

Please trust me when I say that HS football coaches everywhere would love to have a speedy, hard hitting, 6' – 6'3”, who weighs at least 180 lbs. They would, honest.

The trouble is most schools don't have kids with those attributes and mostly when they find them, they stick them at LB so as to maximize the player's exposure to the ball. The very best rated kid's in the state, (scouts.com), at the safety spot have what you are looking for but that's only a dozen kids or so and they are spread p r e t t y t h i n. Once you get beyond these studs, you start trading off features and usually the first to go is size.

Most schools just make do with a slower converted corner or an undersized LB who can run a bit.

I'd take my chances with a 6'3" running back in terms of getting hurt then these 5'6" DB and safetys. These Geners and Johnsons will be the ones getting hurt when they have 150 pounds of body weight going for them and then having to tackle and make hits on the big boys of the Pac 5. I do not see them surviving the 10 game schedule. I see Amat offense allot better then last years but their defense is going to be the weakest part of the team. They will give up lots of points. Real easy, Stay away from throwing in Sheldon Prices area and then attack the other side of the field.

SAFETIES

yes, the reference (tall) meant he was tall but light compared to the nightmare. in that case, he would be considered small. it's all relative and i'm tiring of the conversation. small is small and big is big, and sometimes small wins out over big. how about that?

Amat Fan

Please just stay a fan, leave the Coaching to the Coaches.

sevenduece. Ummmm I don't think so. The comparison wasn't as much beig tall as being small...ie "light", think that was your point. But you did ( ) tall so I'll give you that.

I don't know where the coaches heads are with the smal safety thing is nowadays. Last year I saw RB after RB blow up safeties like they were freshmen. I don't get it. Put your biggest faster hardest hitting ATHLETE back there and watch the game change. Ask anyone who ever played the game...BIG SAFETIES kill.

Los Attos had a 5'6'" safety last year, Damien has a 5'6" safety again, and so do many others...why? No help over the top, weak run support and when you spread them out it's a mismatch in the open field. CO's Swoden was
the exception because he was a hitter and like Samuel in the NFL and brought it 100% ALL THE TIME. Great player. Sorry GHS ..he did "change the game" ...cleanly.

Hey it's one man's opinion but I just don't get it. Rodney Harrison, David Fulcher, Steve Atwater, Dennis Smith, George Atkinson, the great Kenny Easly, these guys are remembered for their abiity to change the mind set of RBs, WRs, and QBS when they decided to run with the ball and scramble.

Surely every team has that kid that brings it,,,why does he always have to be small or just fast? Why no big/tall and fast seeing as there is such a great need for these big time players at the next level.

Gener might of popped off at ayles at one time, but the heck didnt pop of him, he ran over a lot of people not just Gener. Watch the film some more and you'll the lil DB knock the crap out of Ayles also causing a fumble.

Geeze their is so much hate towards Amat, simple move on get over it.

Noise, noise, noise. Something to think about. Over this wkend CO at Oceanside CO beat CRESPI, ORANGE LUTHREN, EL CAMINO ,RANCHO BERNARDO, AND SAN CLEMENTE. Hope we see SH post season. Oops we did lose to OCEANSIDE.

and with the barr kid being a confirmed stud, which he absolutely is, loyola still lost to amat. again, i don't have a vested interest in any of the schools that have been mentioned. i'm just a guy who loves hs football and hs football in this area. this started with the passing league game i saw at south hills. somehow it has morphed into amat vs the world. how did that happen?

Have you notice the guys that Amat was tackling, Black Ales- USC & Senca- OL leading rusher all time, EJ Woods- UCLA, Austin Shanks- Northen Arizona, the super sophomores of Alemany, Crespi Pac- 5 Runners- up, OLU- lost in the last 10 seconds vs LB Poly, Alemany- Semi's, Hart- Finals, Carson- Finals, Sherman Oaks- 1st round (Crist was hurt)Names, Delano Howell, Dayne Crist- ND, Jake Sula- Cal, three D1 guys from Los Osos... all theses guys = tough to tackle, the best of them all was a sophomore from Loyola Barr, hands down the best runner in the Pac- 5 for the next two years... Pete Carroll already planning the trip for this kid...

Sure big guys fall too, if you know how to tackle and I witnessed Gener trying to Blake ales last year up high and as they put it he bounced right off. Poor coaching that last year team of Amat always tackled high and gave up extra yardage all the time. It was rare when you saw a Amat defender wrap someone up at the knees or ankles. Altho Seals Prieto were the ones most of time that tackled this way. Price always tackled high and got dragged he was so skinny. Gener likes to make that pop statement but against big guys like Ales that is plain crazy. Hopefully after watching film Hagerty will get his kids to tackle properly. Go watch film of Amat tackling last year and you will see where they tackled high and gave up that extra yardage especially to OLuth, Crespi and Alemeny it was embarrassing. They better learn how to tackle this year because I also hear Barr of Loyola is a monster.

yes, atwater was tall, but in comparison to the "nightmare", he was small. my point was simply that big guys fall too.

i don't know who those kids are that you've mentioned, but are you seriously comparing orange lutheran to loyola? surely you're not.

sevenduece

I am an unabashed Steve Atwater Fan and in fact think his role model and running mate Dennis Smith is the also tremendously significant when talking about ALL WORLD safeties but I think you are a little mixed up.

Dennis Smith 6"3" 200
Steve Atwater 6'3"218..so much for being small. (Fact is there a re TOO MANY SMALL SAFETIES IN THE SGV FOR MY TASTE)

That "famous hit" by Atwater on Christan Okoye was , from "his" own words, one of maybe 3 clean hits that Christian ever took 1 on 1 in the NFL. And he can't THINK of th other 2! LOL Talked to Christian recently at the Apple Store @ Victoria Gardens and asked him about his "Best Damn Sports Show" comment regarding THAT hit...he laughed and said he was just tried hearing all the fuss about THAT hit...it was a great hit by one of MY heroes but 99 out of 100 times Christian wins that war HANDS DOWN....hence the NIGERIAN NIGHTMARE moniker.

By the way, Christian looks like he could STILL play TODAY. God gifted that man with one of the greatest bodies EVER to walk this earth. In pads he must ave looked ENORMOUS.

And what an incredible gentle man. Here's to ALL safeties!!!!!!

BRING THE WOOD...ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!

Seven Duece, Jacaz
I watched film of your game against Oluth and there were times where your safety and DB had to make tackles on the RB and the TE example: Justin Gener tried to hit Blake Ales high mind you, and popped off him like a flea. The Pemasa Brothers were putting a hurt to those small guys. Just wait and see what AB looks and plays like this year, this manchild is ripped. He was a sophmore child last year and ran well, this year he will be attacking defenses. Yes I hear you it is a team game etc. but when you have a back like AB keying on him or not he will be able to take the hits of a ten game schedule without a problem. Your problem this year Amat is you have talent in Seals (hurt) Bowens (hurt) Gaise (hurt) What do you have to replace Dominique Austin this year? Plus as the coach of your team put it you are trying to get away from bad habits of last year. Verti bad habits. I just do not see your team as what everyone is making it out to be, a SGV powerhouse this year. See you the day after Holloween. Your coming to us this year..Loyola 34 Amat 17

barr is a big back certainly cub fan. but I'd caution you to remember that football is a team sport. i'm not sure that either of the kids you mention will be in many one on one situations with barr. if they are, repeatedly, then there's a bigger problem with their defense. i think you're talking about the small safety for amat. he's short but that kid is rock solid. i saw him on the sideline and was impressed with his muscle mass. and defense, particularly, is about determination, effort, resolve and desire. i'd like to refer you to steve atwater (though tall) vs christian okoye "the nigerian nightmare" circa 1990. it was a nightmare all right... for the nigerian!

Cub fan

It's a wonderfull thing to have pride in you're team. In fact, I remember last year, someone came in here and keep running their mouth off about how Loyola was going to beat the crap out of Amat that year.

Man, this guy went on and on for the longest time. So, when the game was finaly played, and after we beat the "poopy" out of Loyola (again), Low and behold, he was no where to be found.

Therefore, please keep this in mind. If you're going to come in here and "smack the good smack," then be a good sport about it when you lose ok.

In othe words, please post again so that we all know that you're still alive ok ?

Deal ?

Justin Gener 5'6" 150 pounds

Darien Johnson 5'8" 150

Anthony Barr 6'3" 220 RB

Give me a break! A.B. he will run over them and thru them.

By the way Amat fans AB is a junior this year. More of him to come. I aint shi--ing you this guy is a monster this year. Come see for yourself.

Well Amat rules

We got a D1 banner that year (the cerritos game) and another one a couple of years later. Tell me what has Amat done since that last championship in '95? We are in 2008. Thirteen years without a banner? come on you may beat us in the league games but we have the more recent championships. This year I hear is a talent loaded team but only this year and the cubboard looks to be bare after that. Remember when I tell you this Loyola will win this years game.

Cubs Fan:
I hate to break it to you but Barr did not bulldoze over Johnson nor Gener last year nothing will change. sure he got bigger and faster, but do you think Gener and Johnson havent been working out?? It is really stranger because I could re call little Gener getting 2nd Team All League over your strong safety??? Correct? Exactly, hahaha go teach your safety how to tackle and maybe he could do more than little o Gener this year. That little guy plays with heart.

I agree SH looked very good out there in passing league with Amat but also keep in mind Amat was not at full strength on both defense and offense. To all who watched I would wait till both teams are at full health and in pads to make the judgement of who the better team is.

I also don't believe passing league is a good indicater of how the season will go, I do however believe it is important for commamoradity[spelling],agility, conditioning,
and to get a feel for learning your position better.
As for South Hills, I think with this QB and athletes in the skill positions they have, they could match up well with Amat, and if they were ever going to have a shot at Amat, with Deen and the athletes they have, this would be the year, most other years, I think Amat would win, just as I think they would beat any other team in the sgv in most years, but every once in a while, a few of our local schools are capable of upsetting an Amat team.

Cub Fan

Barr is indeed a total stud. And I am certian, that he will play, very well for Loyola this year.

However, I can't seem to disregard what "LHACHC" and others said, and that was that he will most likly be on everyones radar this year.

In fact, it is highly likly that, as in the case of Amats running game last year, that he will be over played, and will have injuries towards the end of the season.

Teams that have one one or at best, a limited threat, are often hamstrung because the opposing defense often keys on that one player.

I remember in a few of last years game where the opposing defenders keyed so much on Wagner that he often got smacked in the back field because just about everyone and thier grandmother in jersey, knew that he was going to get the ball on the next play.

BTW, did you happen to notice the league schedual this year ? We start off with Loyola instead of finishing with them. First time in at least 2-3 years.

Hahaha little cubbie schoolboy, you guys still savoring the victory...what 5 years ago? I guess I'll give you credit for having some hope, but let's not talk about beating us when Abraham Lincoln was President okay, let me school you about the last three Amat victories by our worst teams of memory?

2007 Amat 27 Loyola 12
2006 Amat 34 Loyola 31
2005 Amat 28 Loyola 14

Looks like we got your number.

BTW as far as the crappy HC comment, the Loyola community themselves have raked Kearns over the coals, but hey he's still there. Good luck schoolboy!

Crappy HC, commment,

You would know all about crappy head coaches dont you, and we dont even know if this Hagerty guy will continue that crappy coach tradition Amat has been going thru for what 10 years now. by the way you are right about injuries and that goes for all, but those little guys you have back there in your secondary will get punished this year if they have to tackle A.Barr. Gener and Johnson oh good god this is not fair hope your line backers can tackle because if he gets loose he will bulldoze those small boys over at Amat. still hating on us after we bounced your ass from the playoffs over at Cerritos college. Hypolite ran all over you guys too that nite.

Lenhart plays by default for two reasons:

1. He and his family's relationship with the Bishop Amat football program. If you knew their history, you would understand why he starts at quarterback. His father is the team's physical therapist and parents are boosters equaling money, money, money, and free treatment for their athletes.

2. He is the returning starting quarterback like him or not and has more experience.

3. He will NEVER be discussed in Bishop Amat conversations years from now as the one who lead us back to being a league champion and C.I.F. contender and restoring the Bishop Amat tradition? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!

4. A year from now Rio Ruiz will restore the tradition so any quarterback that starts this year and I agree Thropay is better is temporary and a one year wonder anyways regardless!

Personally, I think Rix sucks too!

In reference to the comment on the inexperience of Bishop Amat's O-line: There are three strong and skilled returning lineman. They aren't the beefiest kids around but have definitely grown since last year. They're strong, aggressive, quick and skilled and can play on both sides of the ball. The morale is incredibly high this year round. The coaches are more traditional and tough, and God knows that the program needed that kick in the arse. Let the broken record continue in terms of repeating the fact that its a passing league game. The coaching staff and school spirit are unparalleled in comparison to Amat. Also: Lenhart will undoubtedly start. He's a leader, intelligent, athletically inclined and the perfect fit for the team's offense, not to mention the team's mission.

Hey cub fan, ALMOST won does not count here. You either win, lose or draw...but you guys lost. Our defense will almost certainly adjust and tear this Barr kid apart, of course that is if he makes it this far to the Amat game without any injury. And besides if he is your superstar RB, he will be a big target for all the teams you will face before the big game. Remember everyone will be gunning for him. So let's just hope this kid is nice and healthy before you spout off your goose lips. BTW have you guys fixed your Head coaching problems yet?

Anthony Barr the running back from Loyola is going to run all over that Amat Defense. Maybe Bowens will be back by then, but this guy almost single handedly beat Amat last year. Saw him workout the other day. He is bigger stronger and faster this year. This is a top notch soon to be college running back. Sort of reminds me of Eric Bieniemy. Barr is the real deal.

You know, just to touch on a subject that someone made earlier about passing league not being "real football" because there are no pads on.

Well, other day I was on Amat's campus and saw one of the football players walking arround in crutches.

A few minutes ago, I read a story in the LA Times that Isah Bowens was going to be out for six to eight weeks due to a "broken foot" suffered in a passing league game.

I wonder how deep the team is this year and if that is going to impact the team the way Wagners injury did last year. I just hope that they don't rush him back to soon.

im a freshmen @ Amat and it seems that the varsity expirienced the same thing we did. The teams we face r there to win and were there for tryouts and extra practice. We lost to El Monte and W.Covina, both teams we would stomp durin the season, but while we played everyone to c who understands there position, other teams played the same 7 ppl the whole tim. So can u realy say this game reflects how these teams actually compare?

i felt that amat was better coached and more organized than sh. i wondered if the amat coaches are planning on using some of those studs on defense on the offensive side of the ball. i saw them do that a bit in the game vs st. bonnies. that would be interesting.

sevenduece

Yes, I can agree with most of what you just posted. In fact, Amat's defense was very good out there that day. I really can't seem to say the same for the offensive end of things.

Not surprising here however, because even throughout the last couple of "down years," Amat has fieded a very good defensive team.

In fact, even in most of the games that they either lost in, or got blown out of, it was because of either the offense, or the special teams play putting the team deep in the hole.

It was difficult at best for the defense to hold the line when those other elements of the team gave up so many points and opportunties to the other team.

If you recall, the OL game was largly lost last year early because of that very fact.

Hopefully, this years teams will be better coached and the coaches will look at last years film of those games so we won't be so suprised the next time arround.

Ch-ch-ch-charter Iz-Oak baby

Two words:

Hype KILLS.

SOUTH HILLS, BISHOP AMAT? What about CHARTER OAK! there gonna be a force to be reckoned with. Just watch!

based on what i saw at the passing league game, bishop's defensive skill players are superior to sh's. i'll say again, that the qb from south hills is better than any from amat right now, but the tall kid from amat will have an opportunity to be a high school all-american if he continues to develop. i said it in an earlier post that the majority of balls caught by sh receivers were routes across the middle or in the flats. i don't remember them beating price or johnson on the outside 1 time. the ify kid is physically imposing and gifted but unsound and clumsy. he'll learn and become a monster i'm sure. the others you speak of did not stand out to me. sh had a couple little guys who caught the ball well in the middle of the field and looked to be quick, but amat's corners and safeties were better than sh's corners and safeties. amat just didn't have the offensive weapons in the receiving corp to exploit them. i have no vested interest in either team, but love high school football and live in the area. anyone who was at the passing league game should be able to attest to what i am saying.

anytime amat loses in anything its a good day. amat suckssss

bishop,

Stop hating? You are funny! You don't know what having hate thrown at you is unless you've been in our shoes.

So you are going to base your whole season on beating us in a lousy passing tourney? Well, your wish has been granted. Good to know your expectations are so low.

stop hating on southhills they blew bishop out they are clearly the better team. we just need to get better they have better people on the field like miles bevel at safety and geoff vaughns at corner on the same side its not fair to have outstanding jr on the same side on defense and ify on the other side.oh,and on the other side of the ball they have a great qb cameron deen with superstars like miles bevel, geoff vaughns, and ify umodu which are all ranked in the top ten.we have good players to were just not as develop yet

if i'm not mistaken, i believe sh's pick was the result of a tipped ball as well.

Hey !! I didn't claim to be a Rhodes Scholar here big guy, but I was just looking at the facts.

And, the facts are, that allot of schools do in fact, participate in passing leagues, and weather or not coaches like thm or not, it seems to be a big part of the game now days.

You know, you don't have to shout or use capital letters to make yourself look intelligent. The words you use, and the fact that you attack people personaly, indicates the true level of you're intellect.

All that these passing league games tell us, is where a team is, and how far a team has to go, in order to get things right. They are bench mark and no more.

The facts are that, yes, these are not true football games, and they don't pretend to be. in fact, no one said they were. It's all about developing you're pass offense and pass defense and trying to get you're people some exposure to other scheams and sets.

So next time, don't get so bent out of shape here. Remember, if you feel pain, or if you feel the urge to post again, try to "breath in and then breath out" before you post again.

That way you can at least collect you're thoughts, and not appear to be so darn ignorant the next time arround :)

jcaz:

ITS OFFICIAL, JCAZ KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT REAL FOOTBALL.
1. YOU REALLY THINK ALL COACHES ENJOY PASSING LEAGUE, WELL THE ANSWER IS NO, IN ACTUALITY MANY COACHES THINK THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME.
2. THE O-LINE AND D-LINE PLAY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT IN THE PASSING GAME. IN PASSING LEAGUE YOU HAVE HOW MANY SECONDS TO THROW THE BALL WITHOUT ANYONE IN THE QB'S FACE, IF YOU DONT HAVE AN O-LINE THEN HOW CAN YOUR QB THROW. SECONDLY THE D LINE PLAYS A BIG PART IF THE QB IS SACKED. ITS A LOT HARDER TO MAKE A PASS WHEN YOU KNOW SOMEONE IS OUT THERE TO SMACK YOU.
3. IF YOU ARE SUCH AN AMAT FAN THEN YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT AMAT WENT TO THE SEMIS IN THE CLAREMONT TOURNAMENT LAST YEAR AND THE YEAR BEFORE. BUT THEY STILL POSTED NOT SO GREAT RECORDS.

YOU'RE JUST NOT VERY SMART

Dont think I can agree with this one. Too many times teams look great in passing league, then when the pads come on they're not so good.

The additional elements of the game are the only real benchmark to measure a team success.

Some people come in here and dismiss these games and say that passing league is only touch football. They go on to say that the true quality of a team is when all the factors are in play at the same time, including pads, etc..

While that is mostly true, to say that there is little to no contact, or that these games are insignificant in the over all scheam of things is being ignorant of the fact.

These games are a bench mark on how a team is progressing in both the offensive and the defensive passing game.

If they were truly insignificant, then why do so many teams participate in them and devote so much time and attention to them ?

While it is true that the passing offense and the defensive secondary, is only "an element" of the over all team, it is nevertheless an important part of the game.

A teams succes or failure in this area should not be so easly dismissed.

Amat looks good:
Deshawn Gaisie had a bruise on his shoulder and did not participate all week for football. He was told to rest it and jsut let it heal properly for no more further injuries. This happened day 1 of the claremont tournament. He will be fine and strong come "hell week".

Hotdog:
The pic that Deen threw that you said the defender pushed him, that is what you call a re-route in football. But yes the second pic was a tipped ball, it was good defense my corner Darian Johnson.

Real footbal is won in the trenches....11 on 11 in full pads. You got an OL that either protects his QB or feeds him to the lions, if properly protected QB will find time to find open receivers or scramble out. The defense on the other hand can create turnovers and instill Psychological havoc upon their meek opponents by delivering some jaw cracking hits. Big difference between touch and tackle footbal my friend.

I think Amat is more intimidating in pads than in those funky shorts and T shirts.

By the way Thropay will be one hell of a QB in the next two year. Let's hope we get some big white boys like Pollak to protect him.

sgv scouting

Get off your bang wagon about the 2011 class. Those little p---y's haven't proved anything.

Passing league a joke, and doesn't prove squat! But you wouldn't really know, not have coached or played the game.

Have you given yourself a new title at SH lately!

Get real Bobby B

HOTdog:

So what's your point a pic is a pic!Their is nothing in the records book that says oh, "that was tip interception" no a pic is a pic stop crying.

And the second pic that SH qb threw was a pic. their was not a shove it was great angle by the amat player and poor pass by the SH qb.

stop crying its football

its 7 on 7 this is not real football. Their is no one rushing the quarterback, their was not actual game planning involved. Neither team scouted each other, no film was broken down. This is not football ladies and gents, this is practice, this is passing league. its two hand touch. Their are no full pads here. The angles you take, the hitting in real football are completely different.

South hills runs all this passing crap now, same thing they did last year, spread out teams, run triples, 4 wide and so on. but during the year all they did was run the dam ball behind the amat transfer wells. so this means absolutely nothing. I wanna see a game with pads between both schools. I want to see the hitting, the strategies and so on. i want real football.

not 7 on 7 champions

the picks that deen threw, one was a tipped ball, and one was a BA player shoved the reciever out of the way and the ball landed in his hands.... maybe we get a ref or 2 for these next year?

lof,
By reading the posts it looks like it didn't come out the way SH thought it would either. Passing league is what it is just a tool to refine your game and get in some work against other bodies other than your own . When and if we ever play and that is a very big if concerning SH then and only then we will see who is the real thing and who is the pretender. At least we can give your neighbor down the street from you props for stepping up and playing us which should be one hell of a game. Now follow their lead and step up and let's get it done the correct way 11 on 11 in full pads under the lights.

What is up with Deshawn Gaise.? Was he in street clothes and not participating. Hurt>? To those who question Amats "O"line I have seen some big guys over there, which means nothing NOW but with the proper coaching this line can dominate if treated right. They have some returning O lineman so the only real question surrounding this Amat team is the D- line front four.? anyone know how that part of team shapes up.

lof,

Get real, like Fred said, an informal game of touch football.

The talk starts in September.

observation of yesterday....
The long haired white kid playing safety for the lancers was Daviz Casarez. He is in the same class as Johnson.

First off, I've said it before and I will say it again, Coach Hegarty will do just fine this year. You could tell right away that he is trying to change the culture around the program and it is moving in the right direction. He has the staff and the players to get it done.

We found it very interesting that after the SH game that Hegarty took his team to the side before the St. Bonnie's game and I don't think they were signing U2's "It's A Beautiful day" in there. They looked a lot better in their second game of the day.

Great match-ups all day long, I liked the way both Price, Johnson, Umodu and Vaughns performed. Deen showed why he's earned the title as the best QB in the area, and I think Tropray looked solid as well. We think that between the QB at Glendora and Tropray, the class of 2011 QB's can exceed the class of 2009 QB's when all is said and done.

The point of the day was to get in good work for everyone and I think that was accomplished by the end of the day. Quite frankly, some of us are a little tired of the shorts and shirts and it's time to evaluate the players with the pads on.

One other thing, it was great to see all the fans at SH on Thursday. Football is definitely the number one sport in the SGV and the it shows at these types of events. It speaks volumes to the fans that love their football in the SGV. Great job.

Are you a lover of football? or a lover of Passing League? all I can say is schedule Amat. passing league errrrr! touch football... put the pads on you boys and play us.

Well Amat fans all of you are very quite......did't come out the way you wanted it yesterday did it?

Seals looked to have one knee wrapped up and did not see action but was there. Prieto played and was playing LB most of time out there. Prieto just needs more reps and he seemed to be going 1/2 speed, Jesse can you build up those chicken legs. Good upper body but no legs, get in shape dude your a stud waiting to happen. Price and Darian Johnson looked solid that is locked up no doubt about it. I did not know who the Long Haired white kid in Amat safety position was? he played allot. Gener had a pick and looked solid but he is really small but he had allot of heart. I have a feeling Amat is going to run the ball allot this year if Lenhart is the QB. If Amat is to have both a running game and a passing game and have intentions of stretching the field with the pass, then McClanahan and Thropay will have to get the nod since they are taller and can see the field allot better than Lenhart. They also have stronger arms.
