Comments
My kids attend the Amat Camp each year. The Amat Camp has a 6:1 ratio between camper and coach. My kid got a 15 min DVD of him hitting and it was critiqued. Last year the Red Sox scout showed the kids his world series ring. Bottom line great experience for the kids.

Should we invistigate this guy too??
Someones got an axe to grind with Amat coaches. Nieto has some good local college coaches at his camp who intruct, not to mention a few big league scouts who also instruct.
New Monrovia High School football coach Ryan Maddox will conduct the inaugural San Gabriel Valley Youth Football Camp from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Monrovia High.
The camp, for youngsters ages 6-13, costs $30. Participants receive a camp T-shirt, two hours of instruction each day, a certificate and a pizza night on Wednesday.
The camp is community oriented to give high school players (who serve as coaches) the opportunity to work with children who look up to them, Maddox said.
"The camp is extremely rewarding for both the high school players as well as the young kids who learn the basic fundamentals of the game," Maddox said.
"I previously ran this camp for four years at West Covina."
Parents may register children for the camp now or from 4-5 p.m. Monday at Monrovia High School.
For information, call Maddox at (626) 272-8600.

I can see Jethro did the math but not all the homework. Maybe you should teach math at Amat and run a Summer Math Camp for addition problems only. Naught from Naught = Double Naught....... LOL

I agree someone with an issue or two with Amat. So instead of going to the source the coward blogs his/her "big news" lol, lol, lol. School Summer Camps have been around for so long. Don't like the price don't attend. I'm sure there are other camps in the area.

To the IDIOT, it's not a big story because it is perfectly legal. Check out any school website for summer camp information, review the cif rules. Do you really think high profile schools with high profile coaches would risk their jobs, reputations, or teams eligibility with a sanction? Do your homework before you pop off. Only a Lancer hater with an axe to grind would be so stupid. Did your kid not make the team? Not get in to USC? ponytail? mouth of the south? kicked out of Amat?

My son and nephew go to all the summer camps at Amat every year. Lancer Basketball Camp, Hit & Hustle for Football, Top of the World Wrestling, and the baseball Hit & Run. My daughter goes to the pep and cheer camp in August. Quality coaches for instruction, safe environment, they feed the kids, and less expensive than day care for 4 weeks. We drop them off in the am and pick them up in the afternoon. The kids love it.

Just about every coach at every school runs a summer camp which by the way has no affiliation with that school...Rollinson -MD, Gonzales -St. Paul etc....what's to investigate?
Posted by: Cubby | July 19, 2008 8:37 AM
accountability and nieto CAN NEVER go in the same sentence. the guy should be investigated. you have to wonder if 'someone' in administration is part of the racket or why in the heck is this not a biger story, especially with the amat faithful. lets hear from you guys - joe amat? jcaz? the amat73/93??lancernation????

I've heard that Rollinson at Mater Dei makes about $350,000 per year which is incredible to coach high school football... I am guessing McKnight at MD is in the same area... Man I would love to have his job

Pardon the catholic reference BUT Holy toledo where is all the money going? THAT IS DEFINITELY WORTH LOOKING INTO. Amat people should be on that and start demanding where the money goes-especially the baseball family.

Just ask USC about this Nieto. Sounds like he's back to his old tricks.
Hey Andy: Have anymore jerseys for sale?
Posted by: Poor Andy | July 15, 2008 4:14 PM
Ok, let's do the math...
80 kids @ $200 per = $16000!
Plus add Nieto's 3 other camps during the year... at say 35 kids @ $200 = $7000 X 3 = $21,000
So to summarize:
Summer Hit N Run Camp: $16,000
Other Amat Camps: $21,000
That's a total of $37,000 for Coach (yes he pays a little to those who help) but what a racket!!!
That and this past season's Amat Baseball Teams are STILL WAITING FOR THE BASEBALL YEARBOOK!!
Where did all the Sponsor Money go???? If you're not going to put a book out with YOUR Sponsor's Ad's, then REFUND THEIR MONEY!!!!!
Now we know how Manzo affords his BMW. He and Nieto have got a good thing going!!
Where's the accountability???
