Craft gets his shot

| | Comments (21) |

Hi All:

I just wanted to let you know about my latest post on the Prep Stars: Where are you now? blog. I write about former Mt. SAC quarterback Kevin Craft, who is considered the front runner to be UCLA's starting quarterback this season, now that Ben Olson will be lost for two months. While Craft was not a former prep star from the area, he did play locally on the junior college level, and his progress should be of interest.

I don’t think its hating Craft, I think its just asking why this guy when there are others out there more qualified and with more eligibility left to build on. Quit being such a homer Steve. Yes it's nice this kids local and all the fluff but this is D1 Pac 10 big time football with scholarships and big money to the university at stake and as alumni I'm tired of this crap. We're talking UCLA not Mt. Sac or San Diego.

we arent hating craft just being realistic. he is in over his head.

Guys, why all the hating of Craft?

He's a good kid who works hard and is getting the chance to play D-I football

UCLA cannot recruit QB'S said:

It is too bad UCLA did not recruit Matt Barkley (MD) Jimmy Clausen (OC) or Dane Crist (ND) With all those QB's at USC you have to wonder why Local HS QB's choose to go to USC or elsewhere when they have a instant legit chance of playing time over at UCLA. I thought USC was a Tailback School.?

Craft is coming in as a junior after thought by Nueheisel. Remember the media luncheon where they were showing film of all their new recruits. Someone had to remind Rick that they had one more guy to introduce and that video was of Craft.
Now that tells me Rick didn't know much of this kid or didn't know him at all. How can you not know a scholarship Quarterback of all things. Three different programs and offenses to learn. Give me a break! Start the freshman and give them the reps and playing time, take our licks and let's prepare for our future and quit wasting our time on some JC transfer after thought. Preparation for the future begins now and not with some guy thats got one more year of eligibility left.

If he makes it to the USC game in one piece he is sure to get smacked in the mouth and not make it out of that game. JUNCO Star at Mt. Crack as compared to playing in the Pac 10 at the QB position, Mac and Cheese is in for a rude awakening. Go Trojans!

SDSU's program has been better each year for the past severals years. But comparing the WAC to P-10 is just silly. I think the P-10 has risen to the very top of college football in the past 5-7 years. USC has become as consistent a program as there is in the country. I think UCLA is at the bottom of the ladder right now, but with their new staff they will once again rise to the top. The P-10 has placed itself above some really powerhouse conferences... SEC, Big-10, etc... No matter where Craft has played, it's premature to offer an opinion about his ability until he's been really tested. At UCLA, he will be truely tested and we'll see how he does. He has the physical tools, but at this level the mental part of the game is the difficult aspect of it all!

WOW the Stupidity! said:

Excuse me but did I just read some clown compare the WAC to the PAC 10 as being on the same level?
I have seen it all now.

Bruin Fan 99 said:

The problem is that UCLA has very little talent. Craft can QB anywhere in the nation...he can be that good.

He has no recievers, no offensive line, and no backs. Compare UCLA's talent with USC's....no contest.

Neuheisel will clean all that up in due time.

Neo said:

Craft is a proven winner; at SDSU and at Mt. SAC.

I hate to break it to you guys, but the PAC-10 (Except USC) is very comparable to the WAC and the Mission Conference in JC Football.

Do your homework. If you were true fans you would support your Bruins.

Hello Fred,
Jeremy Gener who was the kicker for the last 2 years at Mt. Sac.He also was the kicker at Bishop Amat.He is now attending Louisana Monroe and will be the kicker and also kicking the PAT'S and field goals.Mt Sac seems to be a stepping stone for alot of people.

I know enough about football to know UCLA will be a disaster this season with craft at the helm. welcome back to the NCAA Neuheisel.

Rick Dropped the Ball said:

Craft maybe a nice guy but Rick misplayed his cards when he took a chance on him. In other words Neiheisel press the panic button to soon to sign a guy like Craft. He was more worried about guys bailing on him after Dorrell left and pulled the trigger too soon.Go to a practice and watch Norm's body language when Craft runs the offense. OUCH! Chris isn't ready either due to lack of reps last year, in fact I don't think I saw Forcier take any reps other than the scout team with Crook. So with this year of eligbilty which bascially will be a learning curve year for Craft with one year left after this then what. remenebr Chris will be gone this year too I beleive. I say we just suck it up this year take our lick and work with the youngsters for the future

Bruingrad #68 said:

I don't know about his character or hating him but.
Anyone who knows anything about UCLA football and has been there to watch spring and early August
practicess already knows that Craft is NOT the ANSWER. I agree with earlier comments we are in a world of hurt right now at the QB spot.

Neo said:

Kevin Craft is an amazing young man. Anyone who hates on him or his father, or Mt. SAC clearly KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL.

LP Bruin said:

Now, for Bruins fans, don't expect miracles......
Couldn't have said it better myself. Steve
UCLA is in a world of hurt, Craft is nothing but his dads wannabe life. He was lost in spring practice and he is still lost now. One good day and "Brownie points" don't make a good D1 QB. It's not what you know IT"S WHO YOU KNOW in the case of Craft. Couldn't cut it in San Diego after Dad had left and ended up following Dad's advice to go to Mt. Sac if I’m not mistaken Dad was also a staffer at the SAC. Correct me if I’m wrong but something doesn’t sit right with me with Craft. Oh don’t get me wrong he is just a good JC QB. But at D1 and after seeing spring and early preseason practices I’m not buying into this guy AT ALL.
I’m sorry Craft but I’ll take the Force over you any day. Last years QB’s are looking pretty good right about now. I rather have some experience in my backfield with the guys that are gone Bethel-Thompson, (Sacramento) Cowan (hurt), the walk on Crook (Not ask back) and hell even Ossar. As it stands now if Craft goes down Chris Forcier is IT because like Craft the freshman have no clue at this level. We should have dumped Ben Olsen long ago
Miracles you sure got that right Steve it’s going to take nothing but a miracle because as it stands now We Suck! And no way is Craft going to be a saviour.
