Muir stirs it up again
When it comes to Westside trash-talking, nobody delivers it better than Muir and PHS. As new Star-News prep editor Miguel Melendez is finding out, just ask the questions and watch the brutal honesty roll off the tongue. Sure beats the political correctness and practiced responses we get all the time. Muir, as we've noted, is excited about the Pacific league dropping down to the Southeast Division, where they will eventually take on San Antonio and Miramonte league teams in the playoffs. Muir coach Kenny Howard, one of my all-time favorites on a personal level, had this to say about it.

"We're not worried about anybody," Howard said. "They (Diamond Ranch) don't impress me at all. I'm more concerned about California (of Whittier), a team we'll see in the playoffs and don't know much about."
What is he trying to say, that DRanch won't make the playoffs? Maybe Ken doll didn't realize the Ranch is rated No. 2 in the division, at least in CalPreps' pre-season poll. But that's Muir, they've got tunnel vision and figure hey, once you've gone up against the Notre Dame's, Oak's Christian's, Loyola's and so forth, then why be worried about DRanch, SHills, or Charter Oak. Heck, maybe Howard's not so crazy, except that I've had a pretty good taste of both sides, and until the Mustangs organize themselves and get the most out of their ability, they won't be ready to beat the Charter Oak's, South Hills' or even Diamond Ranch. Take the Ranch on opening night.

haha... good to see we can rustle some feathers. thats exactly what DRanch Salad Dressings consists of, FEATHERS, aka lightweights.
@ FLUFF /SH7T ..IT'S ALL THE SAME; how about we are on the Westside of the SGV, not westcoast. lmao, and they say the east SGV has better academics. somebody slept through geography. (tisk, tisk) BTW you obviously corrected you typo, so it must have bothered you. lol... Silly DRanch fan, Football is for real athletes.
@ DRanch has it covered; was that a gang reference? are you a thug? are you hardcore? hahahahaha... oh please. Pomona has just the same if not more of a gang population as Pasadena, due to population. So leave the childish games @ home. We play football, not toss handsigns, and use words that display an ignorant mind trying to express itself.
overall the FACT still remains, Muir will beat DRanch Salad Dressing. The proof will be in the pudding. Only thing nice about DRanch is there architecture for their school. Probably some scholars over there.
But since this IS a sports blog, what does DRanch's secondary look like? Are they playing both sides of the ball, or do we have true CB, S. What type of defensive package do they use? Freddie, whats the scouting report, besides what maxpreps has to say?

People on this keep talking about how good Muir is... we'll see how good these "athletes" are on Sept. 5th. DR is not worried about Muir! As far as the panthers are concerned there is no blog trash talking going on! They are focusing on what they need to touch up before even worrying about Muir! You people are talking like Muir is the toughest team DR is playing this year.. They are just part of the pre-season before going into a tough league! We already know Muir is all about trash talking! So on the field we're gonna see how hard you act 'BLOOD' (lol)

How do you derive racism outta the word 'Cornball'??? A cornball would be somebody like you, making something out of nothing.
Its H.S. Football, with a healthy dose of competition and rivalry. No need to taint the situation with ignorance and bigotry. At least not on MUIR's end. We play our games on the field, not in the stands, not on message boards.
What happens on here, is pure fluff. Just something to do, to make the game that much more interesting. As for the other ignorant comments about 'You People' and the type of crowd Muir has, that's just sad. Regardless of region, people leave the ignorance at the entrance gate, and enjoy the game we play and love. Let trash talking, be trash talking, keep the ignorance in check.

I am from the westside SGV blog. I don't know if you guys remember that coach howard coached the 2006 east/west all star game. On the1st play of the game, he ran a "I" right RB toss pass which was the dumbest play i have ever seen anyone run without checking how aggresive the corners were playing. The corners werent flying up and the running back didnt know what to do, and got stuck in the backfield by a DE. funnnny

As I mentioned on the PSN blog, all the smack talking should be relegated to all of us has-beens here on the blog. No coach should ever offer an opponent any EXTRA motivation. But hey, he said it, now he has to back it up.
As far as all the other bullsh** being posted on here by all sides....well it's pretty tired and Sept. 5th can't come fast enough. As much smack as everyone has been talking (of course including myself)it is now time to put-up or shut-up.
LET'S GO STANGS!!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO...You Westside Pasadena people crack me up...Geez this stuff is entertaining. BTW BIG MOUTH, STANK FAN03, "Cheat", you seem to need to get your facts straight. Cheating was and is not in our vocabulary. It was unfortunate that our Admin dropped the ball on a transfer. How weird that Sermons brother coaches at BA and he has a similar out take on the issue. Get your facts straight before you talk. Also, keep in mind that this issue did not arise until #5 Bryce Mahmud Mcbride and Los Altos went down. That was the only TD Sermons scored last year. Im sure it will be the same story with you guys. You will get ur asses handed to you on the field and then find something to wine about. I'll admit that you guys have speed over there, however we have that plus strength, discipline and more importantly STUDENT-athletes. Our school made CDSOY 2 years in a row, sent 3 kids to D-1's (including a fellow Pasadenian in Shelton Miles) and 1 on to a D2aa school in NC!! Now, When was the last time a kid went D-1, with a decent overall GPA, SAT and ACT score out of Muir?????? Dont be surprised if you get a call about ACADEMICALLY INELIGIBLE kids on the field that night. We dont need to cheat, It was a simple blunder by an AD who is no longer employed at DR. This was brought to you by a DR Public Service Announcement "coward boy" Stankfan03
John "MORE" Stanks will have the big mouths handed to them and we will watch you crash the rest of the season in the eastside of SGV. You reall think you guys can see programs like CO, SH, BA??? Please get over yourselves. BTW we heard about the inter squad rumble you all had a month back...Coach Stank Coach looks like your not coaching. When they go down 21-0 in 2nd quarter, we will expect you all to fall apart and start looking for minor calls. Become a team first before you face a team....

Take your time boy the task of reading that they taught you in the 1st grade will all come back to you soon.. Again take your time Checkers you I know there was too much drinking going on in the womb with Mom as she was carrying you. you have a excuse.

03,
heres the deal.
There were two posts back to back. Go back and read 'em. I answered the first one that asked about different divisions. THEN I addressed you. You can tell because I started the sentence with "Stanger- ..."
We've beaten the DR forfeits to death over here. Like I said, if you're going to visit - know what's going on. The "board" didn't need enlightened - you did!
Then to follow it up by writing "nobody was talking about..." when they were - just shows that "Dena ignorance" - just like DENA BOY.

@ I'm a Classless A$$
if thats what the man felt, than thats why he felt. more than likely, it was to spark a lil fire into his players. DRanch Salad Dressing folks need to stop being so sensitive. Grow a pair, take it as a challenge, and handle it on the gridiron.

Why would ANY coach make such a classless comment?
"Diamond Ranch doesn't IMPRESS me" ????
Is that beyond stupid? Seriously what happened to showing a little class and being a role model for the kids and community?
Same thing happened to the Frenchmen that swore "they would CRUSH the American." DIDN'T HAPPENED DID IT?
Even if you don't believe DR is on your level why say something so stupid?

isnt this the same howard who wore combat pants on the football field as a head coach and also knew about fighting going on at the school? now there is someone everyone can trust. nice comments about diamond ranch. way to give them more motivation to spank the west side.

And "Crutchfield is the best coach in the SGV?". That MIGHT be the funniest thing EVER written on this blog. Here's what Crutch will most be remembered for:

That's laugable! Sounds like the MUIR coach takes lessons from another loud mouth punk!
Posted by: JOKE COACH | August 20, 2008 12:36 PM
Why is it that you S.G. fans have such issues with self assured head coaches. ("Wardell Crutchfield School of Media Relations") Wardell Crutchfield is the best coach in the S G Valley, by far. He regularly plays with a varsity team with less than fifty players and does not recruit players from outside his area like so many other coaches do today.
Coach Howard did not wear the combat pants! Get your facts straight Joe Amat! That was Coach Mills at PHS.
Never confuse a Bulldog with a Mustang!!

Stang03,
I'll spell it out for you so you don't have to read so much, considering you're a Muir grad. I responded to the below post
titanic -- that is the same question we keep asking the baseball people at amat. they brag about their football ranking and then cry foul or 'it's not our fault" about the base ball ranking. How can you be DIVISION I IN FOOTBALL AND THEN TO DIVISION IV FOR BASEBALL?
Posted by: I ASK THE SAME THING TITANIC | August 20, 2008 9:57 AM
I answered
"Amat's in different leagues in football and baseball-that's why the different divisions."
Yes, someone was talking about Amat. Pretty cut and dry. Is that too hard to follow? Even for a Muir grad? As you said
"so check the board before you open your mouth."
Posted by: reality czech | August 20, 2008 11:55 AM
@ Say What?- thanks i appreciate the info.
so wow, DRanch ended up 2-8 for the year last year!!
so DRanch recruits just like Amat, Charter Oak, Verbum Dei, Mater Dei... i tell you, shame, shame, shame...
good to know he is eligible for this year. hope Sermon retains those scholarship offers. what number is he wearing, ill be sure, to look for him.
Posted by: Stangs03 | August 20, 2008 11:24 AM
Look up their record from last year got caught cheating using a inelgible player. Sermons is his name. DR excuse was the admin. did not file his paperwork properly. etc. He was a transfer from Bishop Amat. CIF caught it and they forfeited something like 6-7 games...yes those games went down as losses. Sermons is legal this year.
Posted by: Say What? | August 20, 2008 11:05 AM
Although I am an avid supporter of East SGV football. I will say Muir seems to be looking good this year. As much as it pains me, I think Muir will get the better of Diamond Ranch. Sorry Ranch fans, but you'll will start the season off with a loss.
Muir 35
DRanch 21
I think Muir's defense is too strong. what they lack in depth, they will make up for in physicality, and quickness.
I think Muir should look to schedule Charter Oak rather than Diamond Ranch, they would be the superior team, and more of a formiddable opponent.
Posted by: EastSGVFBfan | August 20, 2008 11:02 AM
@ Reality Czech
first off, no one was talking about Amat. I was looking for elaboration on 'Say What?' comment. we were talking about football. so check the board before you open your mouth.

Posted by: I ASK THE SAME THING TITANIC | August 20, 2008 9:57 AM
@ Tit-antic
If i were to entertain your question, i would say because it offers a chance for San Gabriel Valley teams to compete with one another, rather than driving way down to Orange County and playing teams who really aren't familiar with each other. But i am sure you have some ill-logical reason as to why CIF made the change, cause you work for the CIF right? That might be a question for Freddy Robledo and Miguel as exactly why the made the change. Us Muir fans, really dont care, unless you wearing blue and gold, and have a Mustang on your helmet, then we see you as our prey!
I will say this, Muir almuni is notorious for trash talking, and equally the same the players and coaches. thats what we do, and we back it up! Check the history books. Coach Crutchfield was known for starting controversy, and Brownfield before him. What happened, CIF titles, thats what happened. We are accepting applications for all victims!
Posted by: stangs03 | August 20, 2008 9:56 AM
@ Tit-anic
are implying that the SouthEast Division is weaker than the division we were in? You said, 'drop down'?
how does that make sense. you are saying the we are now playing in a division that is weaker than the previous one, wouldn't that mean we would have the edge, because we played tougher schools. you may be right, i am just trying to understand you logic.
no one has claimed our league was good. trust being in league and playing the weaker schools (Glendale schools) isn't anything to brag about. thats why play tougher preseason games. i could honestly give a flying crap about our league. We will dominate that no matter what, our concern in preparing ourselves for extended seasons, i.e. playoffs.
Posted by: Stangs03 | August 20, 2008 9:49 AM
D'Ranch all talk. Muir all business. Ranch Dressing cheats ala last years forfeits. Muir 31 Ranch Dressing 8.

Ask yourself one question MUIR fans...
If your league was so good, why did CIF drop you down?
Posted by: Titantic | August 20, 2008 9:05 AM
@ DRanchhh Salad Dressing, i based my predicition on 2 competitive programs grinding it out on the defensive side. Muir having the edge due to receiving corps, and a superiour quarterback. Pride??? haha... when it comes to Muir, DRanch Salad Dressing, doesnt even begin to understand. We stay with the Blue and Gold. DRanch Salad Dressing needs to take pride in more than their weird bldg architecture. No legacy over that way.
@ no class, thats wasn't Coach Howard, that would be your boy Mills over at PHS. Sorry we may be bold in statements, but not tacky! LMAO!!!
@ DRanchhh Salad Dressing. the proof will be in the pudding. its cute to see, DRanch Salad Dressing fans so animated. Its quite entertaining. Really it is... True warriors(Mustangs) show no sign of weakness, when their opponent speaks out against them. Take it in stride, be at the game, waving your lil 'WE ARE #1' flag, actually it should be 'WE ARE #6' flag. LMAO!!!!!!! I kid, i kid...
@ New York, i co-sign that statement. respect was shown but scheduling the game.
Posted by: stangs03 | August 20, 2008 8:18 AM

Freddy,
You know as well as I do that Muir and Diamond Ranch schedule some pretty ridiculous pre-seasons. I think that these two programs have already shown each other a lot of respect simply by scheduling the game. These guys don't put cupcakes on the schedule(pre-season). I don't agree with providing locker room material, but that's Howard's call.
Posted by: New York | August 19, 2008 8:58 PM
HaHa!! I have to laugh this one off!!

Muir fields some fine ball players, especially kids in the skill positions and I don't think anyone would question Coach Howard, (BTW, L O V E D The White Shadow), gets a lot from his teams but the Mustangs are some ways from the top of the Southeast Division heap.
The biggest problem they have, and it is an old story, is depth, and a physical team like Diamond Ranch will just wear the Stangs down over four quarters. What's more, over the course of a season, the two way play and the number of handles their top players need to get just beats them up too much to be ready when the playoffs start. This also presents problems for teams like Bonita, Los Altos, and Diamond Ranch, (probably Bishop Amat too), as they stretch talent to compete with teams who play at the next level. As dangerous as Rueben Thomas is, he should plan on getting whacked around by a very solid Panther team. The more he has the ball, the more whacks.
Best news for Muir? They are in the Pacific League and except for the Turkey Tussle and Arcadia should cruise after what should be a brutal pre-season.

isnt this the same howard who wore combat pants on the football field as a head coach and also knew about fighting going on at the school? now there is someone everyone can trust. nice comments about diamond ranch. way to give them more motivation to spank the west side.

Howard must have gone to the "Crutchfield School of Media Relations".
How did that work out for Wardell jn his opener against 0-10 Ayala last year?

Time to spread a lil Stang Pride over this post. Freddie, giving the East San Gabriel Vall, is your turf, i can respect the commentary. Its actually shaping up to be a exciting season, with East vs. West. Its time to show all these stuffy, stuck up, east side schools whats really good. Now giving PHS is really anything brag about, but dem Stangs, yes I said 'Dem Stangs' aren't nothing nice. We appreciate the undestimating. Its apparent we are rustling some Eastside feathers... oooohhhh the big bad westside schools is a comin.... While I am sure DRanch is deserving of all its accolades, they really dont want to start anything with Muir. Ill wait for more CIF titles before i even began to acknowledge them. Ill give you a bit of breaking news, Muir has restructured its Academic Format, and will be bringing in new talent. As we continue to dominate are less the an sub-par league, we will however turn our attention to so called 'quality teams'. Getting for the Re-Birth of Muir. There is a storm bruing on Lincoln Ave!!!!
