Who has the best cheer teams?

Notice I said cheer teams, not cheerleaders. This isn't about looks, it's about who has the best cheer teams in the SGV. First, not sure if we should even be talking about this, but the best-of-the-best cheer teams are on ESPN competing for national championships. We all know this is serious business, especially in other parts of the country, so why not give our hometown cheerleaders some recognition. I'd be curious to know if we have any cheer teams who have won local, region, state or national titles. And is there a cheerleader regarded as the "best." And please, be respectful with your comments.

Best 80s movie...
Love the Bagpipers at Glendora ...

Well I like hoe covina lost to northview but there cheerleaders said they won the cheer war. They are too funny. I like how covina was trying to get more people on their comp team but remember they need to be on the team to compete with you. So can't wait for this comp season to start but one thing between covina and northview is that Northview does USA Competitions and Covina does Sharp LoL.

Cal High pepsters honored
Article Launched: 08/22/2008 10:12:49 AM PDT
WHITTIER - The California High School Pepsters recently attend a USA (United Spirit Association) Elite Cheer Camp at UCLA, where seven varsity members were named to the All-Star team.
Each All-Star team member received an invitation to attend and perform in the New Year's Day Parade in London. Cal High senior Karin Bryeans was named the "Spirit Star" winner, the top individual award.
Earlier this year, Cal High cheer coach Linda Behr was named 2008 Coach of the Year by the Golden State Spirit Association.
FRED, ASK NORTHVIEW HOW MANY ALL-STARS THEY HAVE THAT MADE IT! SAME CAMP BUT IN SANTA BARBARA.

I have seen better cheerleading squads over at the West Covina Bruins JAA Cheer there at Cortez Park that is better than some of these local HS squads.

Fred, When you're checking out the boys on the field Sept 11th you can also see what the Spirit Squad is all about. GO VIKES!!

I'll do more cheer blogs, but I probably need some of you to hit me up with schedules. So, cheer coaches, email me information that you want posted, especially when competitions are coming up..

Nothing against any SGV cheerleading squad but i do feel that squads such as St.Lucys/PC(Damien) and Bishop Amat show a lot more class and team spirit. They really get the crowd going.

I think the GHS cheer team is awesome!! I love to watch them perform. Fred you should do the blog when competition season starts in November to March.

ok, cheer mom, first of all, I never used the word "hate" or "hater" in any of my posts, My original comment was on the cheer program at bonita as a whole, and the only person I bashed was the cheer advisor, who , if you talk to anyone at bonita who feels the same way i do about the cheer program, we definately feel the brunt of the responsibility is the advisors. Just because i feel that the bonita cheerleaders are not doing a great job "cheerleading", does not mean I hate them. For you to think that, means YOU need to grow up. I have been to enough basketball games to know for a fact that the cheerleaders sit in the bleachers during games, fixing hair, makeup, tweezing eyebrows and eating. I even watched one cheerleader 2 years ago with a cordless curling iron fixing her hair during a boys basketball game. THAT is the advisors fault, for allowing that during games. And just for the record, parents who feel their athletes are not supported as well as they could be during basketball games by the cheerleaders, feel the same about the band. Most schools will have their band out to games to support their athletes, even traveling on away games. Other than football, the fact that Bonita's band does not come out to support basketball games is the advisors fault, not the band members. That being said, this is my last comment..go ahead, rant away..
Posted by: bonitaparent | August 10, 2008 8:30 AM
bonitaparent-----that's funny that you're too busy at the sporting events "cheering" on the athletes, cuz all the athletes are actually AT the cheer competitions cheering on the girls that cheer them on at their games. Quit being a hater because make-up doesn't seem to help when YOU apply it. And if you're such a supportive bonita parent, why would you want to bash any child that attends the high school you claim to support???? These are KIDS!!!!! Grow up and leave comments on a blog that actually cares about your opinion.
Posted by: cheermom | August 9, 2008 10:46 PM
hey cheer mom, this will be my last comment on the subject....But I encourage you to go to any bonita coach and ask them whether they want cheerleaders on the court or not, instead of using that as an excuse for bonita cheerleaders sitting doing nothing, well, except their makeup. I would love to go watch bonita cheerleaders compete, but I am too busy at bonita events CHEERING for our athletes.
Posted by: bonitaparent | August 9, 2008 10:29 PM
glendoras band is awesome but the timing of the cheers and routines is terrible. it like you go to a football game and some cheers that have nothing to do with the game start pretty funny stuff at times others just annoying and that pa they us is so loud it does not sound good at all who knows how drew get plays off and why they do the routines during the game instead of the time outs or in between play
Posted by: GHS band is aweome | August 9, 2008 3:33 PM
heck yes fred!
keep it going...cheer teams love to brag..espically if they got what it takes we come in all levels and sizes some novice to advance but we all succeed in so many different ways...from the class room to community to competition to just school spirit. keep it up this was a fun blog...we loved it...go northview!!
Posted by: cheercoach4life | August 9, 2008 2:31 PM
I never new cheer squads were this competitive. Look at this thread, that's a lot of comments for a first posting.
Should I post a cheer thread during the season? What kind of threads would you want?
Posted by: FredJ | August 9, 2008 1:53 PM
lol..arroyo get your facts straight about the northview coaches they left not let go! and just stating the facts on arroyo coach #4 in 3 years debt,or finally out of debt 2 years later no booster club...hmmm
kids coaching themselves..
never trashed stated facts if the facts r wrong then say soooo...those 2 banners in that gym prove what arroyo use to be..if wrong cant wait to see a new banner up sometime soon
Posted by: cheercoach4life | August 9, 2008 12:54 PM
when the northview coaches are let go from northview hs then we will hear them trash northview like they are trashing arroyo. remember the kids read this.
Posted by: cheer | August 9, 2008 11:31 AM
bonitaparent-----other sport coaches don't mind having the cheerleaders on the court, in fact, the encourage it. However the basketball coaches and other coaches at Bonita have a fit when the girls take the court so it's no fault of the cheer girls that they remain off of it. Have you ever been to a cheer competition and watched them compete? I didn't think so--so basically, your comments are coming from an uninformed opinion----YOURS
Posted by: cheermom | August 9, 2008 9:17 AM
hey cheer mom, first of all, i am not a hater of cheerleaders, i was one my self. but after spending the last few years at high school sporting events watching other cheer squads, you can't tell me that bonita cheer is the "best" out there. And fyi, i dont have a son at Bonita ...

She is also on the West Coast All-Star "Fury" team can't wait to see her perform and to see Northveiw perform.

hey bonita parent---just because non of the cheerleaders from bonita would go out with you son is no reason to bag on the entire squad. Don't be a hater

While I congratulate those posting their favorite school’s wins, I'm not seeing in what division. 1st place in a novice division is nothing compared to a 4th place in an advance division. That being said, Glendora has an amazing cheer program, with the majority of their girls coming from incredible all-star programs. Glendora had 4 girls last year that had competed at the Cheerleading Worlds in May 2007. Most GHS cheerleaders are enrolled in tumbling programs and work very hard to advance their skill level at competition. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring to the mat this year. It would be nice to see all the SGV squads compete at USA Nationals in Anaheim this year – assuming they can qualify at regionals, then we will truly know which school has the best squads.

Bonita? Oh please, our cheer squad is lacking... cheer at games??? why should they??? during basketball season while the opposing teams cheerleaders are "cheering" for their athletes, bonita cheerleaders are much too busy sitting on bleachers fixing their makeup, talking on their phone and eating.. As a parent of a bonita athlete, I would love to agree and say cheerleading is a sport and I am sure it is at the majority of schools, but at bonita... no way...Most parents believe if we got a new cheer advisor, who acted like an adult, instead of a teenager, things might change...
Posted by: bonitaparent | August 8, 2008 4:57 PM
Yep Yep Northview is good at #2 that program got better when we got there. Arroyo was the best cause I was on that team, but now OMG what can I say it's just a team that doesn't know what cheer is. 3 coaches in 2 years wow that a great start for them. I was on team at Arroyo for 3 years and we were the best those years. So now I coach at Northview and it's the best program. Well we go to cheer camp on Monday and we are ready for it...

THE GIRLS PLACED 3RD AT NATIONALS THIS YEAR.

San Dimas should not be on this list. The last couple of years they have been a disaster. Also St Lucy. Montebello and Bonita can replace them on the list.
Posted by: top ten | August 8, 2008 12:46 PM
Cheer isn't what it used to be. The stunts and tumbling have taken it to another level. The injury in competitive cheer is at a much higher danger level. I would suggest that this season please take a few minuts to actually watch your cheer squad not just LOOK at how pretty they are. Pay attention to them. Those girls and yes, now boys, really work hard to entertain you and to cheer on their football and basketball teams and to represent their school.
Posted by: cheer is a real sport | August 8, 2008 12:34 PM
Are you guys kidding me! On a sports blog your talking about who has the best high school cheer team! Who gives a rat's behind. It's cheer for crying out loud. I know some people will say it's a sport, but it's not! Can we keep the blogs to talking about sports and not about a bunch of crap that real athletes would never participate in!
Posted by: mrman1 | August 8, 2008 12:10 PM
Okay......I guess BONITA is just stuck with the BEST LOOKING cheerleaders. They are awesomely talented but don't hate just because they are also beautiful.

Okay, after reading this board coupled with my great memory, let me unveil the top ten cheer programs in the SGV.
1. Glendora
2. Northview
3. Nogales
4. Bishop Amat
5. St. Lucy's (Damien)
6. San Dimas
7. Charter Oak
8. Los Altos
9. South El Monte
10. Arroyo

The Nogales Cheer team was the best. I watched over 40 basketball games last year and none can compare to Nogales. They even go to basketball road games and the home crowd of the opposing team cheers them on. They also won a national competition, don't know exactly which one.

glendora all the way cheer always take medals at nationals

I would have to agree with all the Northview Viking fans. Our cheerleaders have done such a great job and not only have they been spirited at their games but have also placed 1st 2nd and 3rd in regionals and 3rd in nationals. They have been working so hard this summer and it will show this competition season.

What do you mean the dreaded 80's? The Karate Kid, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Better off Dead, Weird Science...those were the days.
Posted by: FredJ | August 7, 2008 2:32 PM
First may I say -- Cheerleading has changed so much since back in "my" day -- YES THE DREADED 80's. Cheerleading deserves to be called a sport, they are so athletic and strong now and so many competitions. It is nice to see and deserves more respect. Having said that, I am a VIKING 4-EVER and am so proud of the NV girls and their success. They have worked hard and it shows.
