Happy Gilmore and Adam 12-yards a carry

| | Comments (56) |

In this town of Nico Barbone, Deshawn Gaisie, Tra Sumler, and Ricky Johnson, Charter Oak junior Adam Muema is averaging a ridiculous 12-yards a carry and 145 yards a game. Here it is, by the numbers ....

Aliso Niguel --- 21-176 yards, 1TD
Pioneer -------- 8 -158 yards, 4 TD
Diamond Bar - 18-246, 2 TDs
Totals: 48-580, 7 TDs

Gilmore, in limited time against Sonora because of his suspension, rushed 18 times for 49 yards, then exploded for 308 yards and four touchdowns in their 30-21 win over Glenn. That's a 19.83 yards per carry average for Mr. Happy. Oh man, we've got two, maybe three spots on the Tribune's first team running back list. This is gonna be a tough call. Barbone, if the Saints let him, could go for 200-plus every time out. I'd say Gilmore, Muema and Barbone are the front-runners.

Yeah I did, but listed at 195/198 not 175. Who would you take? SC RB or OS?

Remember this was just one performance. What happened against Penn State?

We'll see how far OS goes with there RB. USC will be back.

Adam is the best in the sgv he has the whole package if you have not seen for yourself this kid can side shuffle a 40 yard dash just as fast as he can run it his yards show for themselves i mean he carries piles and his cut back capability is absolutely amazing. BUt by the way Adam Muema lives in Covina in the CHARTER OAK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. so get your facts straight ok thank you very much

You want to destroy Wilson High school defense's it is simple attack the Corner's that can not tackle especially the Left side. Have Gilmore make all the tackles and he won't run all over you on offense.

Yeah they played at 175 in high school and the NFL.

And one thing for sure, Jospeh is no Barry Sanders or any of these guys mention. May be good 100m guy, and should maybe stick to track..

I agree with each of you to some extent - Bonita has a better team this year. However, the San Dimas beat Bonita last year and San Dimas is not just better this year, they are much better. Their offense is really good! They have two great backs (Barbone and Joseph) and one very good back in Brown. Their offensive line is top notch and their defense has been playing well also. Bonita might win, but if they do, it will be a case of San Dimas making mistakes, not Bonita having more talent! I say San Dimas +17 or more. Should be fun to watch - I'm told they're expecting over 9,000 at the game this year!

Well after seeing 3 of the 5 backs mentioned on here. I have to say there is a lot of talk about Barron and Ricky from West Co. the truth is that them running in a wing T- offense is going to hurt them when it comes to college ball unless they can show they can run from a multi-set of formations and show they can run inside and out. The kid from Rosemead seems to be a bruiser with nice speed. But i have also seen the kid from S.D. joseph he is the best running back at SD. Barron is nice but he does not have next level speed. Barron is not a classic spread type zone runner or a I-back and single back type runner. He would fit good in a navy or air force triple option were he can play fullback. Joseph is a D1 running back fast strong and good vision. I have played ball on the D1AA level and at MSAC he is a running back that can play at those levels. Along with Tra. Sumlar for Rosemead...

We don't need your pathetic points of view. I think we've heard your opinions long enough but some don't agree!

Big deal, move on!

Just Wondering said:

Steve,
I understand the Wing-T just fine. I'm not complaining about the coaching, the running, the o-line, or anything of the sort. In fact, I'm not complaining at all! I'm of the OPINION that Daniel Joseph is a better running back then Nico Barbone. I did not say Nico was a poor running back. I did not say he's not important to the wing-t. I THINK DANIEL JOSEPH IS A BETTER RUNNING BACK THEN NICO BARBONE. You don't have to agree. I'm OK with that! But my opinion is based on watching the two of them play - not statistics or offensive formations. If I were a college scout, I would be interested in Barbone and Joseph. But I still think Joseph is the better running back. He's faster and hits hard. Barbone is not as fast and hits hard. Hitting hard is great, but it will eventually get the runner hurt. Speed, on the other hand, never has a slump!

CO ROCKS,
I don't understand what you are trying to say other than you think I'm a bitter parent in the stands. You are again, wrong. I'm not at all bitter. I think the coaching staff at SDHS is great and I have no desire for their job. I don't pretend to know the SDHS football team better than the coaches - but I do know the team better than a CO fan (CO ROCKS) who insists on throwing a smaller school (sdhs) under the bus. I'm a big fan of Charter Oaks. I have written many times that, as a team, they are the cream of the SGV crop. I just don't understand why you feel compelled to bad mouth me when you don't know me at all. You only know my opinions and obviously disagree. Can't you disagree in a civilized way or must you make acqusations about a complete stranger?

Just Wondering,
Do you know the concepts of the Wing-T offense?
The keys to success in that offense is to to have a bruising fullback, like Barbone, who can get some good yardage up the middle, thus stretching the field horizontally, which opens up the sweeps for the for the speedy wings.
If Barbone is getting the bulk of the carries its because the defense is probably cheating toward the outside, which opens up the middle. When the defense pinches inside, you run the sweep. Both play off each other, and the idea is to get the defense to pick its posion.

Informed opinion? Who's your own. Yeah Right! You have no informed opinion, just trash talk from the stands.

If you think you're a better coach, then go apply. You have no idea about football, just a parent sitting in the stands questioning the moves of a coach.

Like that horse on the rankings? Its called a better OLINE than you thought possbile.

Don't agree, too bad for you. Stay East of Covina Blvd and you'll be fine.

Anyone that is someone knows your comments are bitter, bitter, bitter and way off base. You have no idea what you are talking about. Think about it. The reason that staff wins IS because they're still together and who can blame them all they do is win. Hell, I wish I had them as my coach back in the day and would love for them to come over to our school. Every time we play them we just get beat even twice in one year last year. Everyone grow up and let's support every team in our Valley. This other stuff sucks and just is hot air and a waste of time. I for one want to see my boy Ricky get back in a groove and go off this week. It's going to be tough against Glendora though but I'm not going to start talking trash about them either.

Gilmore for President said:

I have been to both Wilson games this year. Gilmore still isn't up to where he was last year due to the off field issues with the coaching staff. Gilmore is hands down the best back in the area, just about every big run was a broken play. His line had a tuff time with Glen, a real weak team at best. Gilmore is going to get destroyed by CO and others he can't do it by himself.

I also have to agree with WTH, the coaching is weak at best. This Wilson team is having trouble with some of the weakest teams in the valley and they have the best back in the valley. That is just crazy, zero coaching.

CO ROCKS,
you wrote "thinking SD is the only school that has an OLINE who can open holes"... Now, I'm certain I never said that on any post at any time. What I did say was that San Dimas has the best offensive line in the SGV. This is correct! Any running would enjoy success behind the SD O-line. That's a long way from saying they are the only O-line that can open holes. That is not the case! There are many good O-lines in the SGV this year. Charter Oak, Amat, and West Covina all have fine O-lines, I just think (my opinion only - so don't pop a circuit!) SD has the best of the crop this year. If you want to challenge my opinion, then have an opinion of you own, don't just go nuts calling names and trying to put words in my mouth that I would never say. Like Jime Rome says, have a take and don't suck. And don't get all upset if you don't agree with me. There's no need for anger here. Just offer and opinion that is based on some fact so we can have a decent discussion. Otherwise the blog is pointless.

Just Wondering said:

2009,
I'm not bad mouthing Coach Z. I think he does a good job. I'm just comparing the two tail backs. You're a little too defensive. You shouldn't read into a blog post with such distain. I've been around prep football for over 40 years. I've seen great players come and go for many, many years. Like you, I think San Dimas has a better team with both of these young men on it. However, my point, which is correct, is that Daniel Joseph is a better running back then Nico Barbone. If he was given the same opportunities to carry the ball as Barbone, he would do as well or better. This would leave Barbone as a defensive back who only has to play on one side of the ball. Not over using these youngsters is good for both the players and the team! Don't get upset about my opinion, just please have an open mind when I say (and have been saying for months) that Daniel Joseph is a better running back then Nico Barbone and Nico Barbone is a stud defensive back. That's a fact!

jsoto said:

I have one question for the CO staff...when's the last time you've had a "home grown" running back! I know for a fact that CO hasn't had a running back that lived within 25 miles of the school over that past 4 or 5 seasons...quit crying anout Amat recruiting...Muema should be playing for Duarte or Monrovia...Snowden (last years bac) should have played for Muir...and when someone blew the whistle on CO a few years ago...who did the residency check? CO's...VP and AD...what did you think their findings would be...shame on you CIF...shame on the whole system...EVERYONE cheats for the "W"...CO's Big "3" Varsity staff (Farrar...Farrar...Lehigh)has been together so long because they could NEVER make it any place else...poll 20 former players..especially from their 2001 CIF Championship Team and "LISTEN" to what they think of that "Staff"...I hope RC "throttles" the Chargers...

I am not a wilson basher but I to have to agree wit WTH that gilmores Oline is not very good it was okay at best last year. That Line has mostly graduated and I know for a fact that it isn't much. I would give gilmore more credit. Against the really good teams, CO for example he won't get the kind of yardage that you would expect because his line is getting blown up all night. I'm sorry but I have to say that gilmore is the best back hands down! And the kid can lay sum heavy hits for his size!

CO ROCKS said:

Hey Just Wonder

Take a look at the picture. Picture tells a thousand words.

Looks like we can open some holes too!

What a dumb a--, thinking SD is the only school that has an OLINE who can open holes.

GO SGV, you're right! Tell me a RB at any level that doesn't have success behind his line? Who is this moron that thinks there the only steel curtain! Come to our house and play!

You guys are lucky Barbone stayed at that soft school!

Just Wondering said:

GO SGV,
Daniel Joseph's problem is not Nico Barbone... it's Bill Zernikow. If Joseph got an equal number of touches as Barbone, their numbers would be virtually equal. The difference... Joseph has break away speed. It's the difference between three tuff yards, and fifteen yards before being tripped up by a cornerback. If Barbone goes to the next level and tries to run through the middle of a D1 defensive line, he'll get killed... and he doesn't have sweep speed. Joseph and Eric Brown (SDs other runner) do have sweeping speed. Barbone is great, don't get me wrong, but he's a far better defensive back than running back.

Either way, some praise has to go the way of the Saint's O-Line. They are really getting it done.

LAC said:

I've seen all these backs play and in my opinion from 1 to 5 this is the list from top to bottom. I've played into the factor the teams they play and the talent surrounding them as well.

1. Adam Muema - D1 player in 2010
2. Tim Gilmore - Size hurts but is the fastest of them all
3. D Gaisie - plays the best competition
4. Ricky Johnson - been making plays since Soph yr
5. Nico Barbone - Nice Power Back but not D1 material

SaintR4real said:

Just Wondering & GO SGV,

Barbone IS the complete package, but your right, he won't go to a D1 school as a running back, but probably as a Defensive Back.

I'll tell you right now, if First Team is based on Yardage per game / Total yardage, Barbone will not be on the top of the list. He'll be down below with the rest of his TEAM. The Saints will share their glory within themselves because they depend and step up to each other to get the job done. The Coaches realize it more than ever that they have at least 4 running backs that could at any time give the team yardage at will. This is the most complete team I have ever seen. Praise the Coaches for not overlooking at all the talent they have.

Not trying to knock any awards, they're special, but we see so much past that!!

Unfortunately some don’t agree with you.

You don’t have to be the fastest to be the best. Could give you numerous examples in sports.

Barbone is not only the best back at SD, he’s the most complete player with tremendous power and strength. I don’t think many teams are worried about Joesph.

Gilmore is the fastest sprinter/back in the valley but his size is a big question mark. Saw him race in some track events last year and he can move. But track speed isn’t football speed. Needs size!

I saw Muema at CO last week and this kid has a lot of potential, but I wonder how he will do against better teams. CO has a good Oline too and creates big holes, but then again a back is only as good as his line.

Only time will tell!

Good Luck !

While I love my Amat, I have to say that the tribune has to use the yards and statistics for each given player. Yes, Bienemy gained 2,002 yards or so against some tough teams, but when you try and adjust yard for divisions it is simply too hard. I go back to those two guys Sierra Visa had in the 80’s or early 90’s that seemed to “back to back” have like 3,000 yard seasons or something close to that.

I think they were All Valley, but you could criticize them or say 1,500 against D1 and DII teams is more deserving, but how to you really measure a player with all of those variables. It seems like San Dimas and Wilson have two guys that are going to put up some huge yards and they may deserve those spots. Gaise is going to be special this year, but like McClanahan he may not have the yards every game, but all I have to say is “scoreboard”.

I just want Amat to make steady improvement and get to the “third season” this year. I am enjoying it, but we have a long way to go. I am very happy for those Chino Hills guys who stuck it out and while I don’t know if they would have left (I don’t know them) I am sure Ayala would have loved them to be playing for them right now.

Back to my board reports….

Heck yes they beat Aliso Niguel (the team that lost it's top talent to Junipero Sierra and have yet to win a game, hech the 14 points that they scored on CO was the most points scored all year.), Pioneer (another tough team), and Diamond Dar (the team that looses it's talent to Diamond Ranch each year). Heck yes they should be #1. Get real!!!!!! let's give it a couple more weeks til we crown them the #1 team in the valley. I think the Amat has proven what they can do. Oh I forgot, OL turned the ball over that is why they lost. Reality check, you don't just drop the ball, something causes the turn over and it was called a Lancer. Isn't Bowens coming back this week, wow what that will do to the defense when he is full strength. Great job Lancers.

john said:

I would like to see what Gilmore would do against stiff competition such as Amat's competition. It would have served him better if he would have transferred to a school playing someone stronger each week.

First Sonora then Glenn and not Shurr, Montebello, Chaffey.

His first real game wont be until they face Charter oak and I have not been real impressed with them. There is always this hype over CO but when the big game hits they seem to fold. So I think we need to sit back and watch all the backs in the area for at least 4 more weeks before calling ne of them better then the other.

I've been saying if for months... Barbone is not the best running back at San Dimas, let alone the SGV. Daniel Joseph can run circles around Barbone. Barbone runs hard and hits hard, but he will never be a RB at the next level... HE'S TOO SLOW! Gilmore seems to be the most with the least. His offensive live is not good, but he still gets his yards. Barbone, on the other hand, gets to run behind perhaps the best all around offensive line in the SGV (no matter the league!). Any middle of the road running back could go for big yards behind the likes of Salm, Smith, Doll, Hoskings, etc... Gilmore gets my vote, but he'll have to stay after it, or one of the others will run right past him!
