Going Live: DRanch-BAmat on Fox Sports
Hot off the press ... Fox Sports Prime Ticket will broadcast the Diamond Ranch-Bishop Amat game live from Kiefer Stadium on Oct. 10. San Gabriel Valley football fans packed Covina District last year for the Fox Sports West Covina-South Hills game. I'm sure there won't be an empty seat at Kiefer.

SO since you never answered the record between Amat vs. SP
SP 11 wins
Amat 4 Wins
2 ties
SP won a total of 14 Angelus league titles. I think SP had the clear advantage. Take that Joe Amat....

They beat a SP team without stud RB Aubrey Haynes and starting qb out. That game was a weak indicator of how good SP was last year at full force. With those 2 guys playing SP wins by 3 tds.

amnot-seriously?
"can't beat "anybody"?
St Paul won their Division last year - Amat beat them. Beat up on Rancho Cucomonga. and they killed West Covina. Beat Loyola for crying out loud. "anybody"?
Glendora and Charter Oak dropped them because they couldn't beat Amat. Los Altos and South Hills won't schedule because they can't beat them.
seriously - "anybody"?

remember the drilling of the Bakersfield Drillers when they said we didn't have a chance, the trouncing of the City Champs in the Rebock Bowl. I recall having to play our home games in the early 70's at Mt. Sac. because we could not hold the crowd at home. I can also remember driving out to Hemet to play a preseason game because we could not find anybody in the valley to sac up! But unfortunately we haven't gone to the playoffs in 3 years and the haters come out from under their rocks. It still is a proud program rich in tradition,a tradition that most schools in the valley would kill for! Even in their so-called down years could beat 95% of the teams in the valley, if not all of them! So Haters no matter what we say you will still be haters, so when we go by you will look up and either praise us, respect us, or hate us, in any case you will still be looking up to us!!!!

I take back everything I said in the past. AMAT FOOTBALL has earned the right to be #1 in the SGV, because of their PAST, it doesn't matter if they can't beat anybody today, they have a tough schedule. You see if you schedule tough teams-you have an excuse anytime you lose. And they also have there old uniforms.
Posted by: amnot | September 10, 2008 3:29 PM
sucks,
Why don't YOU deal with it? OK we haven't won the big game in 13 years, BFD. You know what? Even if it takes us another 13 to get one, there STILL won't be another school in the SGV that will have the name recognition we do and that's a fact.
Sit and burn.

better than the rest
you and the amat egomanaics need to realize one thing. AMAT'S PROGRAM IS HISTORY. You cant live in the past. This is reality. Your team sucks. Deal with it

Joe Amat,
That 1994 team (the runner up to Mater Dei) had so much more fire-power than the team that beat Loyola in 1995. I think we were all surprised that Amat did not finish in 1994, especially given all the hype. Didn't the MVP of 1995, Ralph Brown, have a punt go off his helmet the year before against Mater Dei? Poetic Justice for Brown as a Senior.

JOE AMAT,
CIF Runner Ups???
Wow, BA was also winning 'Beauty Contests'.
Take that BA haters !!!!

Notes on Amat
AS I said earlier, execution is the key to success.
How then, do you let a team with a 4th and 23 score a touchdown ? It's plain and simple; Execution.
That was the ball game there folks. Los Osos, had the ball on our 23 yard line on a 4th down situation. If we hold them, then we most likley win the game.
In fact, it looked like we were going to get the ball and march down the field and if not score, then run down allot of the clock.
But you have to hand it to the Grizzlies and give credit where credit is due, because to make a gutsy call like that and then to convert...wow.
They really earned a great win tonight against a good Lancer team.
Make no mistake about it here however, it was Amats game to win or lose, and while we did come back and score a last second touchdown to make it 24-20, we still should have won this game outright.
One more observation and that is that, the offensive line was really terrible tonight. They did not make the evening a very pleasant one for Lenhart.
Coach was right when he said that this team will most likly not score allot of points this year. They really seem to be missing a few key components on offense.

What was Amats record vs. SP in the 60's and 70's? Another thing Amat never won 11 Angelus league titles in a row, they werent even in the Angelus league from 91-96, it was the Del Rey league. So answer the question of Amats record vs. SP in the 60's and 70's?
Posted by: Observer | September 5, 2008 10:55 PM
hey joe
the dust is collecting on those old amat trophys. Your team has sucked for 13 years and lost their opener tonight. The program has changed and no longer is amat a winning football program.

Nothing...
If you have something to contribute here, then please do so.
If however, the only thing that you do is to take cheap shots a people for giving their opinions or their points of view, then what is the value of that?
Look, I don't mind that you take me to task on my points of view concernig sports in general. In fact, I expect people to come in here and have a differnet take on almost any subject thats posted here. Thats what a blogg does right ?
However, when you attack me personaly and come off like a person who needs anger management classes, then it is just a reflection of you're personality, you're education and your're character, or in this case, the lack there of.

Actually, it could be Amat in the'60s, '70s, '80's, and '90s. This decade - not so much. Other sports own this one. CIF titles in baseball, boys and girls basketball, wrestling and track. Not bad... for a school that's "down".
CIF Championships
1961 • 1970 • 1971 • 1992 • 1995
CIF Runner Ups
1962 • 1969 • 1983 • 1988 • 1994
Between 1985 and 1996 Amat won 11 consecutive Angelus League titles. Decent league.
St Paul got a title in the '80s before our beloved MSGr ran that place into the ground(then did his work on us), a title and a runner-up in the '70s, got to kiss their sister against El Rancho in the '60s. Hardly matches up. Nor does our 25-14-2 record against the Swordsmen.
Although tough to argue Temple City's 7(?) titles in the '70s, but I'll agree with the poster below and think we'd get them head-to-head. Amazing that there was never a matchup between the two. I'm sure Hitchcock adhered to the DeSpain/Gano/Bogan theory of scheduling. If I were to go out on a limb I'd also guess that when Mission HS closed and we got some transfers like John Sciarra and Coach Tate Duff there were some hard feelings. But that's just a guess.
Any insights to that one out there.

Temple City 70s? It should be St. Paul 60s and 70s..

What's sad is that you didn't address anything said byu the post - proves a point
By the way what makes you so damn special - because you use the smae moniker - doesn't mean anything you say is factual - just allows you to onsistnetly show everyone what you really don't know anything.
Again - don't respond to the facts - just spew your usual BS
Sad little person - as you said

One more thing. If you cant make the away games you can listen on the internet.
Just go to the Amat website and under the sports section follow the link.

Yet another "drive by."
BTW, just to let you folks know what a "drive by" poster is....
He is a clown who comes in to this forum and takes a shot at someone, then run's away and hides.
He often never use's the same screen name twice because he does not want you to know who he is, or what he represents.
He is afraid of you knowing anything about him, because, once you have him pegged, then it becomes an even playing field. He can't have that you know...
These people, and I am beginning to think it is only a small handful of clowns, will hide behind a silly phrase or title.
Most often it is the same person or persons, who attacks individuals who provide quality information to the folks on this blogg. But yet, they have no back bone of their own to take a position on anything of value.
They are sad little people...

You consistently let your ignorance show - you lay the defeat on the fact that the JV players poor execution was because they practice with the varsity? Wow - considering that the Los Osos JV players do THE EXACT SAME THING - what does that mean?
Perhaps you should shut up in the stands and pay attention - maybe even attempt to learn about what it is you speak of.
You play yourself opff as some sort of Amat expert - yet you really know nothing of the facts.
Posted by: You know nothing | September 5, 2008 9:24 AM
Fred, this should be a great game. I'm expecting Amat's stadium to be packed. Not sure Amat has the horses to beat DR, but we'll see. I'm hoping Amat can simply because of my relationship with Coach Gallagher.

football fan,
Not only is it ratings it's name recognition. No one south of the 60, north of the 210, west of the 605 or east of the 57 gives a damn about winning a spittoon. Get real.

wake up call, it's called Demographics, look at the population of the sgv, and how it's changed over the last 2 generations.btw Amat would have whupped TC in the 70's , did whip LA in the 80's.. sgv should be good in badminton tho, lol

Execution is so often the most important element on the high school level.
Oftentimes a team may be bigger or they many have better athletes, but if you execute properly, then you can sometimes pull out a hard earned victory.
Today the Amat JV team did not execute. To say that they were out coached is an understatement.
There were dropped balls, fumbles, passes that sailed over receiver’s heads and over all poor tackling.
Perhaps the JV teams should have practiced this year apart from the Varsity squad. In this way, then maybe they could have worked on the fundamentals a bit more.
The end result was a 37 to nothing but kicking that im sure will make Donkey-boy a very happy mule today.

football fan-it's called ratings! people don't CARE about other 10/10 games like South Hills/Rosemead, Los Altos/La Serna, or the Smudgepot featuring some DIVISION ELEVEN team.
c'mon - it's Amat baby! it's tradition! people will watch. It will be MUCH better football than the other options

I have to admit that I am a little bit suprised that these two teams are on the television schedule this year.
The reason I say that, is because everyone of those teams on there, except for Amat, has been a consistant winner over the last few years.
Not many of them have had down years like Amat has had reciently.
Nevertheless, I suppose it shows the expectations of the Amat football team this year, and what many are hoping will be a break out season.
Amat has been ranked very highly by Calpreps this time arround, so it is no suprise that there are expectations for this team to perform very well.
Still, if memory serves me correctly here, I seem to recall that the coach of the Amat team seems to be down playing all the hype.
Perhaps that's gamesmanship, but I for one want to see how the offense performs this year because, as one bloger pointed out just today, it seems that the team is stacked on defense, but the other side of the ball is gonna be real suspect.
Posted by: jcaz | September 4, 2008 6:11 PM
the smudgepot should be on fox sports not a pair of teams who didnt even make it to t he playoffs last year what a joke
Posted by: football fan | September 4, 2008 5:54 PM
Just a quick glance at the teams that are playing...
SGV= 1 Team
Orange County = 7 Teams
LA Valley= 6 Teams
Inland Empire= 6 Teams
What happened to Downey High of the 50's, El Rancho of the 60's, Temple City of the 70's, Los Altos of the 80's, Bishop Amat of the 90's

The Season starts tomorrow and I would like to wish every team the best of luck this year.
Enjoy your time playing this great game and have fun!
Let us all try and support the SGV in the most honorable fashion that is possible. I know sometimes it’s easier said than done, but let just try. Our kids deserve the most positive example we can display.
