Saturday Morning Quarterback: Amat wins stunner; South Hills, Charter Oak, Rosemead, West Covina cruise

SHOCKERS: Bishop Amat rallies from 24-0 down to stun powerful Orange Lutheran, MaxPreps' fourth-ranked team in the state, 43-39. So now Trib folks, where do we rank these Lancers? Or should I just say it, the Lancers are back. San Dimas scoring 56 points on South El Monte in runaway. Rosemead, yes Rosemead, hammers Covina 50-12. Gues they're better than an "others" ranking in Mid-Valley. Barely in the shocker category, but DRanch did win convincingly over Colony.

EXPECTED: South Hills, Charter Oak, West Covina and Azusa all roll to easy victories.

DISAPPOINTMENTS: Damien getting hammered by St. John Bosco, Wilson going down to Sonora, Glendora losing to Upland, and Arroyo not showing up against Temple City.

Back by popular demand, the Tribune's prep scoreboard. You can also access it on our prep webpage

frank corona is a **** ***

Uh yeah sure, whatever geezer.

dan best of luck friday. any players I should look out for? the last time I saw them they looked really good. football heavan I believe I called your practices. especially liked the d-line coach. the lbs were flying to the ball and the cbs were heads up. your defense was young but very very active. I'm sorry to hear you lost your qb to baseball and a transfer right? but in the end all things are as they should be. I still think your school most reminds me of my alma mater from the schools out here in the valley. taking on mater dei when the are led by a qb phenom and then taking on bishop amat when they get their staff from heaven takes guts. Bogan wouldn't do it. Farrar wouldn't do it. Gano certainly wouldn't do it. It speaks to a belief I have that few out here in the sgv adhere to- play the best, challenge the best and compete at the highest levels. what do you have to lose if you're confident in your coaching abilities. besides let the others make excuses real ballers want the challenge. best of luck friday. I'll see you there. It'll give me a first glimpse at the lancers and what might be the best match up of the night. south hills against la habra not with standing. got friends on amat's staff and well let's say they are excited about the future, super excited about playing damien and after last friday well dan it's show time. west covina is the best team coming off that win. they play hard, are well coached and are fearless competitors. it should be a tough battle from beginning to end regardless of the score.

hope everyone is well Amat 73. let's see I think that f4ckin idiot is interupting adult conversations again and having fun but seeing as i don't have a dog in this fight and the last time I offered that bounty he ran like the b8tch he is I'll just ignore the fool and pray we never meet.

what do they say about rocking chairs and cat's tails. now whay would you want to start that again? have fun on the blog and move on to someone who doesn't hate you to the THAT point.

we clear?

Assistant Coaches Rock The Cradle=moron machine

Rocks the cradle,
The biggest thing I hope for is win or lose, that WC brings their "A" game and no one from either team gets hurt, as for softening up Amat for Damien, thats a tall order
but I believe the Bulldogs
will come resdy to battle. Is it Friday yet!

Rocks the Cradle,
Unfortunately I was not there . I was receiving cell phone updates from BB&G. You could sense the excitment even over the phone . I will definte be there this Friday. Another fact with Hags and the staff is they have been there before and are passing that along to the players on what it means to be a Lancer and carrying on the tradition. On another point I was reading the article in yesterdays Trib about the old 4A days and to be in school at that time was incredible as I am sure people from those day at LA and st paul and other SGV schools can agree. Just imagine if the SGV could build back up to that level they would have to hold Frday's game and many others at MSAC because those are the types of crowds the top teams in the SGV used to command. I am not only speaking of AMAT but as the article mention the entire old Sierra League which moved up to 4A because they were all so tuff.

Amat 73 . I know you don't need the help but to make your point even clearer. Think Pete Carroll with the Jets and Pete Carroll with USC. Different team, different league, different result.

I too questioned Hags hire based on his horrible teams at Riverside Poly but winning against O Lu well that put things into perspective.

Look at the Staff Pete has at USC and look at the Staff Hags has at Amat. Coaching matters and great assistant coaches matter even MORE!

Don't believe it look no further than ALL the over acheivers in the SGV and the under achievers in the SGV. NO NAMES PLEASE!

Either way great win for Amat. I'm going to see Amat against West Covina just to see the Amat faithful bloodthirsty battle against Dan's Bulldogs. Will it be UCLA vs. BYU or USC vs. Ohio State?

Finally Amat 73....were you at the game and tell me was it as wild as it sounded? Dan I hope West Covina softens the Lancers before they welcome Damien to La Puente. I wouldn't miss that game for the world. What did Shakespeare say about eating something cold?

They are idiots

shut your pie hole. Who made you the room monitor?

Husky gets HIV test, Well we all now know that you are a kid on campus if you had to ask around about coach Nemzek. Your pea brain should also have figured out who hired coach Bogan who worked many years under Nemzek. I'm going to make a call to Mr. Reed and see if he can ID your sorry A$$. P.S. he coached me to, does that make him a loser.

Just ignore them Amat 73 they will go away or soon get tired of no one paying attention to them. the more we dispute what they say the more fuel we add to them. Drop them they will go away.

donkey boy and amnot,
Not bragging about being .500 just stating that what Hags previous record has no reflection on AMAT'S record. Different school and different team .

Preseason San Gabriel Valley FB Team

September 12, 2008 8:54 PM

By Ronnie Flores, Senior Editor

Note: This team includes Southern Section schools in the San Gabriel Valley region of L.A. County and the Glendale/Pasadena region north of downtown Los Angeles. This concludes our preseason player and team previews and next week we'll begin our regular weekly state, CIF Bowl Game and regional rankings schedule.

All-CIF Southern Section: Pasadena/Glendale/San Gabriel Valley

Offense

WR -- Alonzo Nevarez (West Covina) 6-3, 187 Jr.
Nevarez is a unique prospect in that he can catch balls on the outside and perform on the defensive line. He's probably not going to grow into an end prospect for the next level, but he gets the job done for the Bulldogs, racking up 89 tackles, including 12 for loss as a junior for a Bulldogs' squad that finished 6-6. On offense, he caught 24 passes and was an all-All-San Antonio League choice at both WR and DE. He could possibly an OLB on the next level as well, but fits here best as a wide out.

WR -- Brett Ackerman (Loyola, Los Angeles) 6-4, 200 Sr.
Ackerman is a play-maker on both sides of the ball and quite a college prospect because of his size and athleticism. He has good hands and solid speed, and used them to catch 18 passes for the Cubs as a junior. His receiving numbers might not be eye-popping this season because of the presence of junior RB Anthony Barr, but Ackerman also is a fine defensive player, as he opened the 2008 season with a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown in a win over Mira Costa. Another big wideout with loads of potential in this region is 6-foot-5, 210-pound sophomore Wallace Gonzales of Glendora.

OT -- Jesus Perez (Garey, Pomona) 6-4, 300 Sr.
Perez is the senior rock on a young team that will have several sophomores starting in key positions. A three-year varsity performer, Perez anchors a big and strong offensive line that averages over 280 pounds. He's a natural tackle and has the ability to play on the next level.

OG -- Albert Cid (West Covina) 6-3, 290 Sr.
Big Cid is a returning first team all-San Antonio League choice and arguably the loop's top overall lineman. At the L.A Nike Camp, he displayed good feet and was singled out as one of the standouts along the line. Has the athletic ability to also excel at basketball, track weight events and can also play on the defensive line. In fact, he was in on 68 tackles last season.

C -- Christopher Jimenez (Cathedral, Los Angeles) 6-4, 350 Sr.
This mammoth center prospect was a relatively unknown last season with the presence of junior Steven Trujillo, but he emerged at the L.A. Nike Camp as someone who could really make a name for himself this season. He would benefit from shedding 25 pounds, but he has solid feet and moves quite well and is actually a center prospect although he'll line up at tackle on this squad. He'll take on more important role now that Trujillo is no longer part of the program.

OG -- Cody Tescher (Glendora) 6-3, 270 Sr.
Similar to Cid, Tescher is another talented lineman that can play on both sides of the ball. Glendora lost some firepower to graduation on of the offensive side of the ball, so that's where we'll place him on this team. He had a solid performance at last spring's L.A. Nike Camp and recorded a 70.77 SPARQ Rating at the Long Beach Nike Combine.

OT -- Graham Vickers (Diamond Ranch, Pomona) 6-1, 245 Sr.
Vickers in a standout tackle for the Panthers and one of the top overall line prospects in the region. A returning first team all-league and area choice, Vickers great body control and is quite strong for a kid his size. He is undersized for the tackle position on the next level, but is highly-regarded as a center or guard prospect. He can also contribute on the defensive line and has already been offered by the service academies.

RB -- Tim Gilmore (Wilson, Hacienda Heights) 5-7, 165 Sr.
After gaining 442 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore, Gilmore had a breakout junior season that saw him rush for 1,978 yards on 214 carries (9.24 avg.) and score 22 touchdowns on the ground. He also displayed the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as caught 28 passes for 406 yards and four more scores. A San Gabriel Valley Union Tribune first team all-area pick, Gilmore will miss Wilson's season-opener against this Sonora of La Habra after being suspended from school, according to that newspaper. If he is out an extended period of time, Loyola's Anthony Barr would take his place on this team. Another talented back expected to make an impact is St. Paul's Darius Bratcher, a transfer from Mayfair of Lakewood.

RB -- Aaron Turner (Santa Fe, Santa Fe Springs) 6-0, 190 Sr.
The injury bug hit Santa Fe last season as the Chiefs missed has a losing record for the first time since the 2000 season and saw a string of seven consecutive Del Rio League championships snapped. Despite missing two game, Turner still rushed for 932 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Turner has good size and speed (he was the league 110-meter high hurdles champ last spring) and is reportedly bigger and faster than he was a year ago. Turner lists his favorites as Oregon Utah and Washington.

RB -- Nico Barbone (San Dimas) 5-11, 195 Sr.
We decided to scratch a tight end from this team and go with three backs and Barbone is the type of player every coach would love to have. He lugged the leather 174 times for 1,378 yards and hit pay dirt 12 times on the ground as a junior. He also came up with a 37-yard touchdown pass. Barbone can also play defense, as he racked up 33 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery from his linebacker position.

QB -- Cameron Deen (South Hills, West Covina) 6-3, 190 Sr.
Deen has a strong work ethic and the tools necessary to become a Div. I quarterback. ESPN RISE West Coast Recruiting Editor Greg Biggins is somewhat puzzled as to why Deen has not been offered yet. His junior film is solid, as he completed 86 of 145 passes (59 percent) for 1,276 yards and 15 touchdowns against only three interceptions. There was stiff competition to be the signal-caller on this team and seniors Chris Allen of Charter Oak and Jose Garay of South El Monte just missed the cut. Two QB's to watch for next year on this team ate Isaac Valdez of San Gabriel and Chase Rettig from La Salle of Pasadena.

K -- Abraham Torres (La Serna, Whittier) 6-0, 180 Sr.
Torres nailed five of seven field goals last season and 27 PATs good for 42 points. Torres, an all-Del Rio League choice as a junior, also is solid on kickoffs. We like the fact that he can also line up at cornerback, too. Thomas Flores of West Covina just missed making this team and would have been an excellent choice as well.

Defense

DE -- Jordan Hanson (Loyola, Los Angeles) 6-3, 260 Jr.
Loyola won the final CIFSS Div. I title back in 2005 before the Southern Section's top division was renamed the Pac-Five Division. That realignment hasn't been so kind to the Cubs, who have missed the playoffs the last two seasons. Previously, the Cubs made the post-season for 25 consecutive seasons and feel this will be a turnaround year. It's starts with a strong junior class that includes Hanson, a player that has progressed steadily and is primed for a big season. He also has the size and athletic ability to entice college recruiters down the line.

NG -- George Uko (Don Lugo, Chino) 6-4, 285 Jr.
Had a solid sophomore season for the Conquistadores, as he racked up 29 tackles and 2.5 sacks. In the off-season, he really made a name for himself at last spring's National Underclassmen Combine, as he won MVP honors among the defensive lineman. He's a long-armed and athletic defensive tackle prospect that should double his tenth-grade statistics this season.

DE -- Kyle Lengyel (Diamond Ranch, Pomona) 6-2, 205 Sr.
A throwback type who will do anything to help his team win, Lengyel is more of a linebacker but fits best at end on this quick and athletic defense. Considering he's played tight end, fullback, right tackle, we know he won't mind playing another new position and we know he's do an admirable job. He collected 98 tackles and four sacks as a junior and for his career has 11 sacks and 182 tackles. For good measure, Lengyel is also a standout catcher and pitcher on the baseball team.

LB -- Brent Seals (Bishop Amat, La Puente) 6-1, 190 Jr.
The Lancers were a state and national power from the 1960's until the mid 1990's but have fallen on hard times in recent seasons. This year Amat is quite optimistic because of players like Seals. He followed up an excellent sophomore season that saw him rack up 60 tackles plus three interceptions with a league leading 108 tackles as a junior. He was his team's defensive MVP and a first team all-Serra League selection. At the Long Beach Nike Combine his 80.10 SPARQ Rating included a 36.3 inch vertical jump and a 4.47 20-yard shuttle. He's built and has the speed to be a strong safety at the next level.
LB -- Isaiah Bowens (Bishop Amat, La Puente) 6-2, 220 Sr.
Bowens moved from the Seattle area to reunite with his mother after a horrific auto accident left her a quadriplegic. Every time he steps out on to the football field, Bowens tries to make his mom proud and he usually doesn't disappoint, as he collected 38 tackles and 7.5 sacks as a junior. Those numbers came as a defensive end, but he's going to get more reps as a linebacker this season and will likely play that position in college. He also makes his mother smile with his work in the classroom, as he carries a 3.2 G.P.A. and is headed to UCLA.

LB -- Wayne Goss (South Hills, West Covina) 6-0, 195 Sr.
South Hills was moved from the CIF Southern Section's Southwest Division to the Southeast Division, but the expectations remain high as they do every year for the Huskies to be one of the very best teams in the region. The San Gabriel Valley Union Tribune has pegged South Hills No. 1 because of players such as Goss. He leads a veteran defense after recording 79 tackles and five sacks as a junior and earning second team all-area honors by the Tribune.

LB -- Bryan Bonilla (Diamond Ranch, Pomona) 6-0, 195 Sr.
Bonilla was a second team all-area by the San Gabriel Valley Union Tribune on the defensive line, but is more of a natural linebacker. In fact, he caught the eye of the position coaches at the L.A. Nike Football Training Camp with his performance. He has good athleticism (71.37 SPARQ Rating) and racked up 82 tackles and 13 sacks for the Panthers last fall. He's been offered by UTEP but has not yet decided where he'll spend the next four years.

DB -- Evan Heard (South Hills, West Covina) 6-1, 180 Sr.
The Huskies are usually strong in the skill positions and Heard is a three-year standout that is primed for a big senior season. A repeat selection on this team, he followed up a sophomore season that saw him record 29 tackles, 416 yards rushing and 251 yards receiving with 264 yards rushing and 35 interceptions. He was an all-San Antonio League choice as a junior and a talent that the Huskies' coaching staff compares to former Husky standouts Jeremy and Brian Payton. He's already been offered by UNLV and will likely have other programs offering him in the near future. Loyola's Justyn Williams also received consideration here.

DB -- Kendall Hollinquest (Blair, Pasadena) 5-11, 205 Sr.
Yet another prep linebacker that is better suited as a defensive back on this team, Hollinquest was the leading tackler for a 9-2 Vikings' team. He was a first team all-area selection by the Pasadena Star News after racking up 37 solo tackles, 49 assists, five sacks and one interception. Junior Ify Umodu of South Hills was also considered in this spot and is more of a national recruit, but not as accomplished a prep player as Hollinquest is so far.

DB -- Brandon Sermons (Diamond Ranch, Pomona) 6-0, 175 Sr.
Known for his top-notch cover skills, Sermons is generally considered one of the top cover corners on the West Coast. He's a solid athlete (31.2 inch vertical jump, 34-00 Power Ball toss) and has good bloodlines as well. The younger brother of former Bishop Amat all-stater and USC RB Rodney Sermons, teams don't challenge Brandon much but he still came away with 17 solo tackles and an interception as a junior. He already has six major offers on the table including Pac-10 schools UCLA, Arizona and Oregon. Another DB that deserved recognition for this spot was Devin Jackson of Ayala of Chino Hills.

DB -- Sheldon Price (Bishop Amat, La Puente) 6-2, 165 Sr.
A repeat selection on this team, Price solidified his selection with a show-stopping performance at last spring's L.A. Nike Camp. He was named the DB MVP after displaying excellent footwork and hip movement while also using his long frame to quickly close on the ball. He was an All-Serra League choice as a junior after collecting 32 tackles and two interceptions. The son of former Long Beach Poly all-state DB Dennis Price, he'll follow in his father's footsteps and play his college ball at UCLA.

P -- Eric Stern (California, Whittier) 5-8, 155 Sr.
Stern helped the Condors capture the Del Rio League title with his excellent kicking and punting skills. He has a strong leg on kickoffs, as he put 32 of his 53 kickoffs in the end zone and is a quality punter. Stern averaged 35.54 yards per punt (1,315/37) while nailing nine inside the 20-yard line.

Multi-Purpose

WR/DB/RB -- Randall Carroll (Cathedral, Los Angeles) 6-0, 195 Sr.
Undoubtedly the fastest player in the region, Carroll finished third at the CIF state meet in the 100-meter dash (10.52) as a sophomore and joined the list California football greats (Jamere Holland, Justin Fargas, Napoleon Kaufman, Curtis Conway, Kevin Williams, etc.) that have won a state 100-meter title. He clocked a 10.42 last spring and also won the 200 meters in 21.53. For the Phantoms, he's quite dangerous catching or running the ball and is also a standout at defensive back. He gained 745 yards receiving, 576 yards rushing and scored 14 total touchdowns while intercepting two passes on defense. He'll likely play WR at USC.

WR/DB/RB -- David Quiroga (Ayala, Chino Hills) 6-1, 200 Sr.
This formidable all-purpose threat hauled in 72 receptions for 1,096 yards and 10 touchdowns, including a four-touchdown performance in a 34-33 victory over Damien of La Verne. Quiroga also added 282 yards and four touchdowns rushing. He's also a standout safety and makes an impact in the return game.

WR/DB -- Jeffrey Taylor (Sacred Heart, Montebello) 5-11, 174 Sr.
The Cardinals' No. 1 playmaker, Taylor is a four-year standout who's helped Sacred Heart gain respectability on the gridiron after some lean years. The nephew of Sacred Heart offensive coordinator Kim Taylor, he caught 31 passes for 605 yards with seven going for six points. He also came up with over 40 tackles, four interceptions and five pass break-ups from his defensive back position.

TE/LB-- Todd Golpher (Arcadia) 6-1, 225 Sr.
One of the most versatile and highly-decorated players in the region, Golpher is a UCLA recruit and a serious area player of the year candidate. In a junior season that saw him earn all-area honors by the Pasadena Star-News, Golpher caught 30 passes for 528 yards and six touchdowns from his tight end position. We love the honesty of the Arcadia's statisticians, as he was credited with 38 tackles, 84 assists, 11 sacks and two interceptions as a linebacker. For his efforts, he was named CalHiSports.com second team all-state underclass.

WR/RB/KR -- Ronnie Hillman (La Habra) 5-9, 170 Sr.
We cheated a bit and placed Hillman on this team even though the Orange County Register covers his school more often than it's covered by media scribes in the San Gabriel Valley. La Habra, however, is technically in Los Angeles County and Hillman is a cinch pick on any all-region team in California anyway. As a junior, he led La Habra to a perfect 13-0 record and a CIFSS Southeast Division title. He led the way with 952 yards rushing, 34 receptions for 792 yards (23.3 avg.) and 21 total touchdowns. He could be a slot receiver, a running back or even a return specialist. Either way, he's quite a special player for the Highlanders.

QB/P/RB -- Nick Lenhart (Bishop Amat, La Puente) 6-0, 190 Sr.
As a junior, Lenhart completed 96 of 178 passes (54 percent) for 1,102 yards with six touchdown passes. He also scored two rushing touchdowns and was one of the best punters in the region. He boomed 42 kicks for 1,543 yards, good for a 36.74 average, earning second team all-area honors in the process. There was a three-way battle for Amat's quarterback position this summer but touted sophomore Josiah Thropay left just prior to the start of the season so Lenhart's overall production will be quite important.

*Taking the standard measurements of the football combine, the SPARQ Rating weighs and combines the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump and bench press into a single number that measures an athlete's overall athleticism. Thus, football players can track the progress of their training, through occasional tests, and compare SPARQ Ratings with teammates, training partners and competitors. To learn more about the SPARQ Rating, go to sparqtraining.com.

Look at the respect and Props coming from LA and Huskie Pride. These are the type of fans that have got class. The rest of the bloggers "Huskies are the best" donkey dong ang King Stu-pid are a attention starved bunch. They Just argue for sake of arguement. Grow up boys and act like men. With comments like these from LA and Huskie pride this blog could turn itself around to a decent piece of reading material...I will not count onit tho. We will take the good with the bad.

WC
Look out for #53 Eddie G. He was outweighed by 40 pounds and gave up 8 inches and still dominated his man. He and the rest of the d-line will eat up the WC linemen so Seals and Maffie can make all the tackles.

OLu ran for 211 yds in their 1st game - 58 vs Amat.

Donkey-Boy/King Stud

I am at last, very very happy that two things have happened in you're life.

One, is that you finally had a "take" in which you gave an "honest" opinion (that was good), and number two is that you are actually using a screen name consitantly. Good for you !

BTW, did you attend Ganesha ? The reason I ask, is because you always seem to have them high on you're list all the time.

i don't think ol tried to run the ball with the same type of consistency i've heard (in the last couple hours) west covina does. that being said, i would still consider ol's running game far superior to what west covina will mount. however, i've also heard that west covina's running backs are very good and should not be taken lightly. it will be interesting to see a few things: 1) how amat responds after a huge win. 2) if amat's offensive line continues to improve to the point where it can dominate the line of scrimmage. 3) if amat's defense will come out with a sense of urgency and show the consistent dominance it has flashed in two games... simply put, will it put together 4 strong quarters. one final thought... many posters have said amat would lose 8 or 9 times out of 10 to ol... the thing is, they only had to play them once... and they won! furthermore, people have talked about the proverbial "gifts" ol gave amat... seems to me amat gave them 4 or 5 gifts in terms of field position in the first quarter... or did they just earn it... at any rate, i'm looking forward to a great game friday night.

SO MUCH FOR KARMA. DID YOU MISS ME? JFR THE COACH YOUR REFERRING TO IS COACH JACK NEMZEK. I ASKED AROUND CAMPUS TODAY AND UNFORTUNATELY I THEN HAD TO HEAR OLD STORIES OF COULD OF, SHOULD OF, WOULD OF, WHAT IF. YOU HAS BEENS AND NEVER WILL BES! TOP FIVE IN THE STATE AT THE END OF THE SEASON. YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT DISTRICT FIELD THOUGH I'LL GIVE YOU THAT MUCH CREDIT. HUSKY PRIDE NEVER DOUBT YOUR BOYS! WE NEEDED A FIRST GAME LIKE WE HAD FRIDAY NIGHT TO PREPARE US TO PLAY A MUCH IMPROVED WELL EXECUTED GAME FRIDAY NIGHT. WE PLAY BEST VS. BETTER OPPONENTS. HE HIMSELF THE EXPERT PICKS US TO WIN THE C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. PLEASE BE C.O. PLEASE! WHO CARES ABOUT 35-0 BECAUSE MANY OF THE PLAYERS NOW WEREN'T EVEN ON THAT TEAM AND THIS YEAR'S TEAM BEATS THAT TEAM ANYWAYS EASILY. I JUST GO ONE STEP FURTHER WITH A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY. King Crud must've crapped in his donkey shorts after realizing the Amat-OL score was no typo LMAO. This jackass's mouth was full of crow come saturday morning. Hag will have his team settled down and prepared for this tough WC team.

The fans and locals will be treated to a fun and exciting game this friday.

Good luck to both teams this week, so let's get ready to rummmmmmmmmmmble!

Amat 45 West Covina 7

gotta love bragging for a .500 coach. All that matters is that he is 11-28 in his last 39

By the way Hags is 1-1 as our coach and that's all that matters.

Hall of fame for sure!!!!!!!!

Amat will dominate!!! they will stack 8 in the box and force 5'4 George Johnson to throw the ball.... But to who??? Possibly Sheldon Price or Darien Johnson caus ehe has no recievers to throw to. Amat wins big.

Lets hope our Dawgs pull one off cause La Habra is very good.

"Open Discussion"
What's going to happen this friday if SH and Amat loses and CO wins, will CO be #1 in the SGV.

Any of you with kids who watch Sponge Bob will understand that the prediction West Covina fans are making can only occur on what is known as "Opposite Day."

Amat's win vs O-Lu was HUGE. The euphoria has died down as it should, while the Lancers prepare for WC. IMO, O-Lu wins that game 8 times out of 10, and I think most would agree with that. But as many have mentioned, Amat is currently the ONLY team in the SGV who could pull that off and ALL other teams would lose 10 out of 10 games.

If Amat can limit O-Lu to only 66 yards rushing, uh, I think they're not TOO worried about the Bulldog ground attack. Of course, they must prepare for it and take nothing for granted, but something tells me if O-Lu had a hard time with its ground game, so too will WC.

Long story short:

BA-38
WC-13

WC - you're right. WC's line is waaayyy better than that Orange Lutheran O-line. They were sorry, they only got 50 yds rushing 50+ yds rushing against Amat.
Oh, that same OLu line destroyed Mater Dei last year. Remember them?

West Covina is going to run all over the Lancers. Jesse Illi and Ricky Johnson are the perfect lightning and thunder combo. I just dont see how Amat is going to stop the experienced O-Line of the Bulldogs.

Yup, that works

whitey,

that came directly from the article I left the link to

Talk to Jeff Call at the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City, Utah. His email is jeffc@desnews.com

I'm sure he'll appreciate your fact checking.

King PUD & Husky girl for less, I believe the term your searching for is TAKEAWAYS not turnovers. Husky chick for less, I'm 21 years removed from my beloved SH campus and the greatest football stadium in the valley " to play in." Are you a bitter 2nd teamer who didn't get enough playing time? Do you even know who the head coach was before Bogan.

Donkey boy,
With that spin of yours and this being an election year, have you ever considered using your propaganda for the Democratic Party? Seems like they believe mostly everything that's told to them anyway so it just work. Give it a shot.

PS, donkeys are never used for stud, only real horses. Go back to the barn and keep dreaming.

Fred/ Steve,

Next time a local college (USC, UCLA) plays BYU check with WC Head Coach Mike Maggiore.

He played with BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall at Oregon State.

attn. Joe Amat, the byu team did not go 14-1 in '96 you can go to NCAA.com the football link to find out they went 11-1

Thanks Dan. Yes it is a good test for WC and we have to realize we could easily be on OL's end this week if we rest on that victory .Contrary to the belief of many others, beating AMAT is still a good feather to put in your cap. We need to stay focused because as I said WC is a very good team that seems to be hitting on all cylinders early in the season .To come out and beat teams you are suppose to beat is one thing but to come out and totally dominate is another. They are playing at a level most teams stive for when they are considered top level in whatever division you play.

Joe Amat & Amat 73,
Good post as usual from you guy's, Amat did the SGV proud by TAKING this game from the top rated team in the OC, they forced turnovers and made it happen, it was not a gift. This will be an exciting opportunity for West Co to see where they stand against a team that
looks like they have the talent to be a D1 power.
Hopefully, here's to a competetive and injury free game good luck and GO BULLDOGS!

West Covina vs Bishop Amat will be a personal game between the players since many of them grew up in elementary/middle school together...

Amat will either Roll on from this big Win or come out flat. We will see come Friday nite at Kiefer. I am of the opinion they come out, this their first home game and continue to play good solid well coached football. We could have not picked a better senario then the opponent being West Covina at 2-0. I mean the Schools are 5-10 minutes apart and some of these kids grew up playing JAA together. Big game for both. Lots of others will miss their HS game to come to this one. It will sell out.

Freddy is on the links hittin' a few in Vegas - cut him some slack! Until then THIS is OUR page!

Here is something that might help people understand. An old colleague of mine sent this about the BYU head coach (I think to rub it in after their pounding of UCLA). It talks about him taking over for Gary Crowton, who went to BYU and underperformed as a coach after replacing Lavelle Edwards because he wasn't really ready. (Sound familiar?)

***************************************** Here's a bit of the article:
"... Mendenhall has also embraced the Cougars' rich tradition, inviting former star players back to campus to address the team. He expects his current players to understand, and uphold, this legacy.
Former BYU star and NFL Hall-of-Famer Steve Young dropped in one afternoon after practice recently. He is impressed with Mendenhall's approach. "Everyone knows Bronco's a great motivator and he's a fine coach," Young says. "Really, it's about getting wins. The foundation is here, the facilities are here. Recruiting looks like it's going well. Bronco can do the job. Everybody expects significant improvement. He's taken the challenge. He's changed the logo back to the old logo to say, 'I know what the expectations are. Why hide it? We're not going to run from it.' I like that."
Not long ago, Duane Busby, BYU's director of football operations, was rummaging through a pile of items in his office when he found a highlight film from the 1996 season, when the Cougars posted a 14-1 record, won the Cotton Bowl and finished with a No. 5 national ranking. The highlight film was only three or four minutes long, but Busby figured Mendenhall might be interested in seeing it, so he put it on a DVD and placed it on the coach's desk.
"The next day, he took our staff into the team room and called the players in to watch it," Busby says. "He told them, 'I can't get these images out of my mind. This is what we need to be.' Then he showed them the highlights. It struck an emotional chord in him. He has a passion to return BYU to greatness."
On a daily basis, Mendenhall looks to create as many experiences for his players as possible to remind them of the standard of excellence. "They are things that simply say, 'Do you want to be part of this culture or not?'" he says. "That culture of excellence should permeate everything these kids do. The way they do one thing should be the way they do all things. As a BYU player, that should mean he's part of a culture of excellence."

This is what Hags is trying to do with the Lancers. It's EXACTLY what they needed. And, so far, is doing a damn good job at it!

Fred, it's 320, where in the heck is OUR Amat page!

AMAT 73, Joe Amat, reality czech, jacq

Just take the high road! Most know the real truth!

We take alot of bashing too, but somehow we'll keep marching on for our kids! That’s the real joy in watching high school football.

You should be proud of what your kids, coaches and fans did last week!

Keep up the good work and good luck!

Wow, this game against Amat/OL is over!

Guess what? It goes down in the "Win" column anyway you look at it!

You haters of Amat or SGV, get over it!

Stick together and stop all this nonsense.

donkey boy ,
How do you explain that we scored on the lucky turnovers . I guess you think that was all luck also.We were handed nothing ,we took it from them by showing alot of pride and determination.Yes it was an upset now , but down the line those types of wins will become what is expected from AMAT just like the good old days. Now you are hanging your sucksss banner on the hopes of WC beating us. Well they may because they are a good team , but now you know we are capable of winning any game at anytime. As I had stated earlier a donkey boy by any other name is still a donkey boy. Maybe your a stud around the old donkey pen but to us you are still the same old donkey boy . By the way Hags is 1-1 as our coach and that's all that matters.

king SCUD (or Donkey Boy - whichever you prefer),

At least that is a take. I'll give you some credit for that. At least you give some sort of a reason. Incorrect and ill-informed, but a reason nonetheless.

If the turnovers were the result of dropped snaps, fumbled handoffs, or players simply losing possession - I might even agree. THOSE are gifts.

Outside of one bad snap on a punt, all of the turnovers were a result of a hit, a strip, or good coverage. Those are FORCED turnovers. I made the comment earlier that, based on your theory, USC has been REALLY lucky since Pete Carroll is there because they are +104 in turnovers.

Brigham Young was really lucky on Saturday too. I mean they scored 28 pts off of turnovers. If you take those away and UCLA scores on those drives it's a close game. What a gift!

Plus... holding OLu to under 60 yrds rushing was no gift. And the Lancers COMMITTING no turnovers was a factor too!

If you think the OLu coach is right listen to this interview where he gives the Lancers credit
http://www.ocvarsity.com/video/index.php?bcpid=1126062229&bclid=1134010117&bctid=1790977208

And check out some highlights too... to see the forced fumbles

http://www.ocvarsity.com/video/index.php?bcpid=1126062229&bclid=1134010117&bctid=1790977208

Now the bottom line is that is behind us. On to West Covina

Joe Amat,
You're right on the money here! Anyone can win and anyone can loose on any given night! Amat should be so proud of their boys! Meanwhile, the boys and their coaches should make every effort to prepare themselves for the next game. A big win like the OLu game can really build momentum in a program and it can also have the oposite effect. If the Amat players get to pleased with this big win, they could fall from the wagon next week. I'm happy for Amat. As pointed out by many, Amat's past several seasons have been pretty frustrating so pulling one off like this is great... you have to take these little successes when they come!

CO-35
SH-00
Thats all that has to be said!!!! LATES

Wow!

Why all the hate, King STUB???

Take it for what it is/was....

Must really suck to go through life with such hate towards something/someone....

Best of Luck to ALL THE VALLEY TEAMS!!

Lets keep Amat in perspective. Amat was handed A GIFT. 5 turnovers from OL which lead to 28 amat points. Take away those turnovers and OL wins 39-19! Amats defense which was suppost to be the team strength gave up 39 points and you people are calling this the greatest win of all time?. Myopia run amok with you donkey amat fans.

Take away those turnovers and Amat gets its ass handed to them. OL's head coach was right and he knows how LUCKY amat was. OL wins this game 9 out of 10 times and Amat fans dont get too excited YOUR TEAM AND FANS STILL SUCKKKKKKKK. I could just see all the big bellied amat dads sucking down cold ones after the game in the parking lot talking about " the good old days".

By the way, Hags is now 11-28 in his last 39 games and Amat has the same record as Ganesha

Let's keep one thing in perspective. Amat did UPSET Orange Lutheran. To say otherwise is being myopic. No way is anyone saying at this point in time that the programs are equal. At least headed in the right direction, BUT..."on any given Friday..."

The great thing about a game like this is it puts every Friday in perspective. They can approach every Friday KNOWING that they have a chance. BUT... a win like this also gives the staff a chance to remind the squad that the shoe can always be put on the other foot - if you become complacent. If a hungry team like Amat can pull an upset over OLu...well, you don't EVER want to be on the other end of that. And it can happen if you're not careful.

Throughout most teams schedule they have games that they *should* win, games they *could* win, and maybe some games they don't have much of a shot at winning, but that are scheduled stretch themselves.

Good teams win the games they *should* win and, once in a while, will knock off someone that they *could* beat. Sometimes, good teams get knocked off by teams that *could* beat them. THAT'S what happened on Friday with Amat/Olu. Great teams win the games they *should* win and don't lose those games they *could* lose. It's hard to be *great*. I don't think there are any of those around these parts. Every game on Amat's schedule is one where the opponent *could* win. Be ready. There are some coming up that we *should* win. Perform your best. There are also some left that the opponent *should* win - but we *could* win. Believe!

AMAT SUCKSSSSSS

Reality czech & Just Wondering

Here my two cents.(For what its worth)

Amat played a big powerhouse and WON! Who cares how, but its awesome victory for them? SD wins big against a good team that competes in there division. Awesome for them...

I am sure Amat fans really enjoyed this one and they should. Last two years have been frustrating for many and it’s a good feeling starting the turnaround. Good for SGV? OH YES!

SD has come a long ways from the "Soft SD" "Little SD" and they are a force to be dealt with this year. Is this good for SGV? OH YES

Is CO, SH, DR and everyone else trying to make this valley proud? Is it good for SGV? OH YES.

Lets just try and keep it going! Our kids work hard and hopefully someone can bring home a ring this year for our valley!

Bishop Amat Lancers 31
West Covina Bulldogs 12

Great Win for Amat, go Lancers!

Reality Check,
I'm not compairing Amat and San Dimas. Two different programs and Amat clearly has the tuffer schedule. However, when compared against their respective leagues, San Dimas looks to be much stronger against it competetion than Amat does thus far. Like I sain, if Amat can string together some wins then we have to say "Hey, Amat is the sh|t in it's league." But until Amat does win several in a row, all we can say is Amat upset OL. To simply dismiss OL as a team Amat should have beat is not realistic. It's akin to saying UCLA is great, they beat #18 Tenn. We all know what happend the next week against BYU. So, as an Amat supporter, I think they need to string some wins together before we throw a crown atop their heads.

As for San Dimas. This is by far the best team in the history of the school. I realize Amat has won much more and has fielded great teams and great players over the years, but compairing the two is unfair to both programs. Amat is a private school that collects athletes from all over while San Dimas gets what it gets. Amat should be a better program, so saying that they are is not even necessary. However, San Dimas beat its closest competition by 30+ points! That's big for a little school that is far better known for baseball then football.

So, good for Amat... keep it going! And good for San Dimas too!

STOP IT CHRIS FROM NOGALES GAREY RAN ALL OVER YALL THAT GAME GAREY SHOULD OF WON EASY.. THEY HAD TOUCH DOWN RUN BY SOSIAH KUAEA THAT WAS CALLED BACK SOSIAH WAS EVERYWHERE THAT NIGHT KILLING YALL HE ALSO CREATED THAT FUMBLE GIVING GAREY THAT AMAZING DRIVE FOR THE WIN...SOSIAH KUAEA HAD OFFENSE LINE TO RUN BEHIND IT BE OVER... QUARTERBACK IS GGREAT ATHLETE, WALLACE ARNOLD HAD BIG GAME.........

Just Wondering-I'm all for support. I rooted like hell for SD in the playoffs last year, but realistically, it was against Oaks Christian - a REAL powerhouse. NOT South El Monte.
as for your quote, "Now, as for the team that really made a great impression this week. The San Dimas Saints look unstoppable." Against South El Monte? After discounting the Amat win as an "upset" and "Amat now needs to solidify itself as a strong program"
The reality is that San Dimas can't do that because, as you say, Bonita and Northview are their toughest games.
So be realistic. "Unstoppable"? "The team that really made a great impression"?
Really?

reality czech

Thanks for the put down. We may not be the Division "A" that Fred talks about but the rankings look pretty good right now.. CalPreps, Maxpreps, etc.

Maybe more bloggers should support the SGV with a positive approach than always trying to tear eachother down..

We know All Huskie fans are not like this complete ignorant person "Huskies are the Best", Just like not all Amat fans are not as pompous as most make them out to be. You are right it does spell bad karma on your team when you come in and talk cra- about another team and pump up your team and then get beat that week. La Habra is no slouch and they will bring their A game. I will pulling for SH because they rep the SGV but this HUSKIES ATB guy needs to chill. No Doubt you have a good team over at SH but this is not the time to bash others. The season is early and there will be some losers and some winners this year and hopefully CIF champs in this SGV. Too early to tell and too early to be spouting off at the mouth like that.

doe anyone have an early report on west covina. this should be an exciting game. i see they're scoring a load of points on teams. joe, since moving to the area, i've been intrigued by the area teams. i chose amat to follow because i was made aware that they are the team in the area that is a div. 1 team and because of all the bashing i've read. it has been fun thus far. i'm interested in seeing what happens this week. the game should be quite entertaining. i just don't know much about west covina. if anyone could enlighten me, i'd appreciate it.

where is the stupid amat breakdown?

Hey Huskie, we're still waiting for that call --week zero, one, two, or four.

slaker,

Muir is overated? Okay, so we lost to a pretty damn good team that we played damn close in the first half (10-8 with about a minute and a alf to go in the 2nd quarter), and we are overrated?

Okay. Who did you guys beat again? Ayala? LMAO!!! Okay. Good job. Congrats on your monumental win. I'm sure scheduling such a powerhouse team will guarantee you a spot as the #1 team in the rankings this week. Oh, wait a minute. No, no, no, no...my bad that would be Amat. A team with an actual sack. Sorry.

Amat fans, you guys are right. These SH fans are HILARIOUS!!!

HUSKIES ARE THE BEST--please shut your mouth and creating bad karma --- you are jinxing our team. Stop...... Please know that not all Huskys are so arrogant.

Hey Dranch I see a lot of comment about your win over much overrated Colony. Colony no offense , no defense so whats the big deal? Muir shows they are over rated. Chargers are porous and give up to much points. Their running game is powerful and if ALLEN starts to catch fire then you and Bonita can look forward to a coin toss.

just wondering-if Bonita and Northview are the two toughest regular season games that's all that really needs to be said!

OK,it's now Monday morning. The glory of the last victory must be put behind us and focus on the task at hand, West Covina who now stand at 2-0.

Personally I don't care about rankings and if Fred were to take us off the board, I'd be happy with that. It doesn't matter if your #1 during the race, it only matters at the finish line.

Amat pulled off what must be considered an upset. Having said that, Amat now needs to solidify itself as a strong program for this year by winning a string of games. Their schedule is tuff and if they can string together some wins, then we will be able to look back at this win over OL as more than an upset.

Now, as for the team that really made a great impression this week. The San Dimas Saints look unstoppable. Barbone went off for 250 yards and the Saints earned first down on seven of nine possesions. Their Offensive Line so overwhelmed the SEM defense that it was almost comical. The Saints were able to move the ball ten yards every time they touched the ball. Salm, Doll, Musgrove, and Smith pushed the pile all over the field. The tackles (Salm and Smith) were unreal. They are both giant and just man handle the competition. Salm looked really good despite a still healing leg. Smith made as many down field blocks as he did blocks on the line.

Between now and the end of the season the two tuffest teams the Saints will face are Bonita (Smudge Pot) and Northview. I don't know what will happen in these two games, but baring injuries, anyone who bets against the San Dimas team had better get some points in return (a lot of them)!

i think the difference between mcclanahan and lenhart was simply that mcclanahan was able to make something happen with his legs in the form of buying time to hit an open receiver or run for good yardage when the pocket broke down. that being said, he should remain the starter this week. i do, however, believe the competition is not over which is absolutely healthy.

SH, You have a long way to go before you talk smack and state championship here. If Ayala had a more experienced QB you would be 0-1 right now. After some 2nd half adjustments we ran at will and had receivers open all night. No doubt you have potential with Deen, a good receiver and some strong RB's, but get some things fixed on that D then talk smack.

It is truly amazing how all these grown "MEN" are arguing over a ranking . I am sure this is the LAST thing the SGV HS Coaches are worrying about. You just have to play your games & let the chips fall where they fall , rankings mean NOTHING ! This is not the BCS ....Although I bet some teams wish it was .Unless a team plays Bishop Amat and WINS , anybody KNOWS Bishop Amat would run most SGV teams off the field .Like it or NOT . West Covina has a shot this week.

Cal Preps Projections:

Bishop Amat 38
West Covina 22

La Habra 28
So Hills 20

Two San Antonio Teams going Down.

Stick to playing the likes of Walnut, Nogales and Rowland. I agree your record is outstanding playing these teams.

haha husky pride has been defending amat and you guys are ripping him. its huskies are the best that you should be aiming at

Without a doubt McClanahan.

Who would you start this Week McClanahan? or Lenhart? McClanahan threw for 2 TD's and won his first start against a top ranked team. Lenhart stats vs Los Osos were decent and it was the first game out with a confused offensive line. McClanahan had the adjusted offensive team, Lenhart had the first game jitters team. Defense remains in tact. A Thread for Fred to throw out for Amat Fans.

No Question as to who is Number One.

Whitey,
There is no question Amat is number one, show me another SGV team in the Times TOP 25. To add if Amat picks up wins in their next four games, West Covina,Damien,Diamond Ranch and St Francis The Lancers could very well be that number one team for awhile. All speculation at this point but a total posibility. This is why teams such as So. Hills, CO, Glendora, San Dimas, and Los Altos should schedule Amat, then you have a legit arguement as to who is the number one team in SGV. Hats off to West Covina, Diamond Ranch and in the past CO and Glendora..but Huskie Pride can talk all he wants but until they put Bishop Amat on their schedule he can keep all his passing league wins at the beach. I agree La Habra smacks Huskie Pride and his team in the mouth this Friday.

Contrary to other statements, Arroyo did show up and banged heads hard for a quarter and a half....until TC broke it loose. TC has a solid defense and when pressed, can move from it's normal one dimensional ground attack on Offense. The Knights are a good team and played hard...it is only game 1 of the season and no reason to bury Arroyo over one game.

The Mead should have a good test this week against Monrovia.

Fred, where would you have rated Los Osos and OLu, if they were SGV schools? Have to be on top, ergo Amat has to be your new number 1...........

Huskie Pride look at all that ink Amat is getting in the times. Middle of the pack in the Times top 25 at #13. Where is So Hills? Sorry dude that chronic has done its damage. With La Habra coming in and with a potential loss at the hands of Highlanders you have no grounds to even talk here how great SH is. pride is one thing but stupidity is another.

Huskie pride what will you say when La Habra comes to District Field and beats down on you this coming friday. This La Habra team is even better then last year. You will get your Loss this friday and will intimidate no one even in your uniforms..La Habra 31 SH 17....

Quick question for you amat fans, if for some reason you need to go to your 2nd string qb, will you support him? You highly educated folks need to lay off the kid, realize that this is only a game.

And south hills kid-lay off the pot.

LA Times ranks LA PUENTE, BISHOP AMAT 13th in their top 25...not too far behind Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Crespi..and just ahead of Loyola...three very good league rivals. Their strength of schedule is toughest in the SGV...Don't see south hills in the LA times' rankings. Amat has to be ranked #1 in the SGV...

JERRY MCCLANAHAN is my hero.

Mr. Turd
It's quite obvious you hung around Captain Merriweathers pickle farm to much in the 70's.

Great win, Amat. This is a victory that the entire valley should be happy about. I hope OLU dominates the remainder of its schedule so that this win remains impressive.

Panthers,
Players and coaches, what a great game against Colony. And Defense....your up 6 complete quarters with no scoring against us. What a way to hold the line.....Lets try for 10. Best of Luck against Oaks Christian this Friday.

You may hate private schools and Amat. But Great Job Amat. They brought pride back to the area. Beating an OC power is great for every program in the SGV. Great Job Boys.

seems that many people here are implying or simply stating that amat got lucky. well, if that's the case, you should be aware that some people like me believe that luck is merely when preparation meets opportunity.

smallcitymc,
What year did you go to SP? I am also a SP alumni?

studs are playing
yes, a few of amat's players did SPOT play situationally. my point was, ol's skill guys played virtally the entire game (offense, defense, and special teams) and that, i believe, took a toll on those guys and could have been the reason they could not hold on to the football ball when they were being pounded by amat's defense. i too believe the amat players you mentioned will play on offense sparingly. i just don't think they will play the entire game on both sides of the ball and special teams. i could, however, be wrong. at any rate, THAT WAS A GREAT GAME AND A GREAT VICTORY.

HUSKY SCREAMER-yes SH plays favorites! now will you go away?

OH AND HUSKY PRIDE I AM RIGHT YOUR NOT LOYAL BECAUSE IF YOU WERE YOU WOULD SUPPORT EVERY PLAYER NOT JUST SOME AND NOT ANOTHER. I CAN TELL YOUR EITHER ONE OF OUR COACHES OR A PARENT BECAUSE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HERE AT SOUTH HILLS YOU HAVE FAVORITES! TELL ME I'M RIGHT AND I'LL NEVER TYPE ON THE BLOG AGAIN. TAG YOUR IT BROTHER!

GOOD AFTERNOON GENTLEMEN I'M BACK. I WOULD OF BEEN HERE SOONER BUT BETWEEN SATURDAY NIGHT AND YOU KNOW WELL ANYWAYS, LAST NIGHT I ASKED MY BROTHERS IF ME TYPING ON THE BLOG WAS WRONG AND EVERYONE AGREED US HUSKIES JUST HAVE TO KEEP DOING OUR PART AND WIN AND WIN BIG WE WILL BECAUSE YOUR RIGHT NONE OF US ARE GOING TO DENY OUR SCHEDULE IS NOT VERY INTIMIDATING BUT THAT'S OK BECAUSE WE WILL JUST PROVE HOW INVINCIBLE WE ARE AGAINST EVERYONE WE FACE EVERY WEEK. I LOVE THAT EVERYONE HATES ME AND ASSUMES I'M SOMEONE IN PARTICULAR. DON'T ASSUME BOYS BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ASSUME! RESPECT AND HUSKY PRIDE, DON'T HATE THE PLAYER HATE THE GAME! WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN MAKING GUYS LIKE YOU MISERABLE. THIS IS FUN AND GAMES UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT AND WE'LL LET OUR PADS DO THE TALKING TOO. YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO THAT WE SUFFER A SETBACK LOSING GOSS OR BEVEL BUT YOU CANNOT DISPUTE LOSING BOWDEN IS JUST AS SEVERE A LOSS PROBABLY MORE SO. AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION THOSE LOOK LIKE LATE HITS BECAUSE OF THE SHOCK AND AWE OF CONTACT THAT LASTS MUCH LONGER THAN NORMAL HITS. CHECK HIS STATS FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS AND HE'S THE BEST LINEBACKER IN THE PROGRAM PERIOD NO DISCUSSION OR ARGUMENT NEEDED. IF YOU WANT ME TO STAY OFF I WILL BUT REMEMBER THAT DOESN'T MEAN WE WON'T GO AWAY ON FRIDAY NIGHTS. WE ARE TOP DAWG NOW AND AT THE END AFTER OUR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND NO ONE WILL TAKE THAT AWAY FROM US EVER. BUY TICKETS, JUMP ON THE BANDWAGON, SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE PUPPIES!

proves the point
You prove my point our dominance warrants a move to a higher division. We have been in higher divisions b4 and have won cif. but like i said those championships do mean more if they are in the highest division, but they are still great accomplisments. Just because we have won cif 2 years in a row i'm not going to talk trash to a div I power that we've never played about how bad we would beat them.especially if i knew we were scared to schedule them the way SH is scared to schedule AMAT.

HUSKIES ARE THE BEST!!!!!!

i like how everyone has respect for eachother! charter oak gives amat respect on a win amat gives charter oak respect on there win! all the teams in the area respect eachother except for you meaning south hills who u called THE PATRIOTS. Im sure THE PATRIOTS would beat a average rebulding Ayala team more then u guys did! an who ever this iss bowden or the jv pat wing, calling out charter oak an amat is a very bad idea!!
goood luck next week to all the teams EXCEPT trash talking i havent done anything this season huskies

sgvfootballfan

who was that player?

Huskies
I was at your game at Ayala on friday night with college recruiters and SH looked real weak against a sub par rebuilding Ayala team.I hope it was just first game gitters for SH.Recruiters were a little let down also at the "player" they came to watch.

trojan man
take grand south, just before the 60-57 freeway, left hand side , built into the hill, there saving about 1/3 of the cost of steel building into the hill. next year will be played at the rosebowl till the stadium done, then in 2-3 years a second team, ill let you know after wed. meeting is at industry hills.

THE CHARGERS ?!?!?!?

I would GLADLY welcome them back to the LA area , and from what I have read the new stadium would be here in the SGV ,what a BONUS !

trojan man
theres a meeting on wednsday about the new team and stadium, all the big wigs will be there, ill update you, but i got a good tip saying its the chargers.

LA Insider

Looking at Max Preps, he only had 12 rushing carries and SD wasn't on the field for Q4 due to penalities.

I agreee, we need to make some adjustments on offense, but talking about the games that are already over isn't going to change the past. Lets focus our efforts on the next game!

Joe Amat

I heard MANY stories of those old RHS vs Bishop Amat games were told to me by an Old Coach . He is no longer with us , but from what I remember RHS played you guys TOUGH and gave the Lancers quite a scare . The Panthers have a chance on going a LONG way this season . Coach Koffler put one tough preseason together, I hope they stay HEALTHY and get a chance to compete past week 10.I hope all SGV teams represent come week 10+.

CAN WE GET AN NFL TEAM ALREADY , so I can stay of this HS blog on Sundays ....

TM,

I remember that we faced Rosemead a couple consecutive years in the playoffs when the Panthers competed at the highest level. Back then South Hills and Los Altos did too.

Demographics might change and CIF might put them elsewhere, but when people truly care - the pride inside those walls, and the effort between those lines doesn't have to.

Good luck to them.

How good does LA's defense look now after holding Nico to 75 yards and ZERO TD's?

LA's not as bad as everyone thinks they are. If we can put our offense together we'll be just fine!

WOW ...
This blog is getting pretty serious . I had stayed off for quite a while , now I know why . Once again CONGRATS Bishop Amat on a GREAT WIN . I am sure all the Bishop Amat fans , coaches and players KNOW that this WIN was earned NOT given. Do you really think O LU GAVE THEM THOSE TURNOVERS,what a joke ! Like one of the comments from a blogger earlier saying USC is luck under Coach Carroll with there 104+ turnover ratio . It's not LUCK people turnovers are turnovers . And most of the time they are EARNED . The Lancers I am SURE are going to be ready the rest of the way . Just like the Trojans will be READY .

HOW ABOUT THEM RHS PANTHERS!

Fight On

TM

Congradulations to Amat on beating OL. Everyone was dismissing Amat's odds, and this proves that at the high school level it's never safe to discount a team, no matter their current history. On paper and by all indications Amat should have lost. But they WON. So all the nay sayers here on the blog should just be quiet and leave Amat alone. I couldn't be more proud of Amat... and I'm not even a fan! I just think a team that shows up and pounds it out against a stronger team and brings it home deserves all the credit in the world... Way to go Amat!

Man, what was that all about anyway. Sometimes, if you're on the outside looking in, you get lost in all the back and forth.

I don't know if that was indeed Boman, but it could have been, and was that a former player, or ex-close friend turned enemy or what ?

The intreague is quite obvious, but all the hate....wow !

I say this because, just as with all the Wilson "stuff" thats going on on this blogg on an almost daily basis, the Amat faithfull do not, as rule get involved in all this this back and forth banter.

But to tell you the truth, when you guys throw us into the mix, then I suppose all bets are off right ?

So whats the deal here people ? Why all the personal attacks ?

YES YOU GOT MY ATTENTION.

LUCKY FOR YOU THAT GREEN DAMIEN PAINT WASHED OFF MY CAR. LUCKY FOR YOU THAT PAINT WAS WATER BASED AND DID NOT CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE PAINT OR MY CONVERTIBLE TOP.

"IF" THAT PAINT WAS PERMANENT IT WOULD HAVE COST $45,000 TO FIX.

I'M STILL NOT SURE WHAT POSSESSED YOU TO DO SOMETHING SO VILE BUT DONE IS DONE. MY GUESS IS YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD BE PERMANENT AND THAT REALLY SPEAKS TO YOUR PARENTS VALUES. LUCKILY FOR YOU THEY WONT HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR MISDEEDS. $45,000 IS A LOT OF MONEY...EVEN FOR DAMIEN PARENTS.

I KNOW YOU WERE NOT ALONE. PEOPLE LIKE YOU NEED AN AUDIENCE. I HOPE, FOR YOUR SAKE, NO ONE RETHINKS YOUR ACTIONS AND DOES THE RIGHT THING AND COMES FORWARD.

IT WOULD BE NICE BUT I'VE LEARNED LONG AGO THAT DAMIEN CLICKS STICK TOGETHER...IN IS IN AND OUT IS OUT. THE SCIENCE TEACHER THAT HAD HIS CAR VANDALIZED AT HOLY NAME TAUGHT ME THAT. THE HOLY NAME KID THAT WAS KICKED OUT OF DAMIEN FOR STEALING STUDENTS' IPODS, PHONES AND SELLING DRUGS TAUGHT ME THAT. YES HE'S A STAR PITCHER AT BONITA NOW BUT SOMEHOW BOTH HIM AND HIS PARENTS HAVE THE GALL TO SHOW THEIR FACES AT DAMIEN HOME GAMES AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. STEAL FROM YOUR CLASSMATES BUT SHOW YOUR FACE AT "THEIR" GAMES??? SO YES IN IS IN AND OUT IS OUT.

I'VE GIVEN SOME THOUGHT TO OFFERING A REWARD FOR INFORMATION CONCERNING YOUR ACTIONS BUT REALLY WHAT WOULD IT ACCOMPLISH? LUCKILY THE PAINT WIPED OFF AND THE ONLY REAL DAMAGE IS TO YOUR INTEGRITY.

MY SUGGESTION TO YOU IS SAVE YOUR ENERGY FOR THE FIELD....EITHER CHEERING OR PLAYING. YOU'RE GOING TO NEED IT THIS YEAR WITH BISHOP AMAT ON YOUR SCHEDULE.

STILL I CAN NOT FATHOM WHAT KIND OF INDIVIDUAL WOULD DO SOMETHING SO OFF BASE, SO COWARDLY AND SO VILE. I STILL HAVE THE TEAM'S THANK YOU CARDS ON MY DESK. I THOUGHT THAT THE DIFFERENCES WERE SETTLED...APPARENTLY NOT. THAT'S YOUR PEROGATIVE.

NO MATTER HOW MANY CARS "YOU" DAMAGE OR HOW MANY DIRTY LOOKS YOU GIVE ME OR HOW MANY COMMENTS YOU MAKE BEHIND MY BACK OR WAYS "YOU" CAN THINK OF TO PUNISH MY KIDS FOR MY COMMENTS THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH...I PRODUCE KIDS THAT ANY SCHOOL WOULD BE PROUD TO CALL THEIR OWN. TOO BAD DAMIEN AND YOUR PARENTS CAN'T SAY THE SAME ABOUT YOU.

BEST OF LUCK TO THE DAMIEN FOOTBALL TEAM. NEVER PAY ATTENTION TO THE PEOPLE IN THE STANDS. YOU, AND YOU ALONE, WILL DETERMINE YOUR SUCCESS OR FAILURE. I'VE TOLD EVERY TEAM I'VE EVER COACHED...."THE SCOREBOARD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WINNING AND LOSING...IT'S JUST A DOCUMENTED RECORD FOR A SET TIME. A WINNER IS BASED ON EFFORT AND DETERMINATION. A LOSER IS BASED ON HIS ACTIONS OR LACK THEREOF. COME OFF THE FIELD A WINNER. DO YOUR BEST AND PLAY WITH CLASS"

THE INGREDIENTS TO MAKE A CHAMPION IS IN "EVERY" TEAM. THE TRICK IS TO PLAY LIKE ONE. BISHOP AMAT PROVED THAT. REMEMBER THE AUTISTIC KID THAT MADE ALL THOSE 3 POINTERS AND WAS CARRIED OFF THE COURT TO THE CHEERS AND SHOULDERS OF HIS CLASSMATES? SPORTS BRINGS OUT THE BEST AND WORST IN ALL OF US. YOU'RE BETTER THAN YOUR RECENT ACTIONS I'M SURE...AND SO AM I.

GOOD LUCK FINDING OUR WAY. THE NEXT TIME I WILL NOT BE SO CHARITABLE.

thank you for the video highlights. . . amat is back and here to stay
"MIGHTY ARE THE MEN THAT WEAR THE BLUE AND GOLD

"Husker for Life" says Orange Lutheran sucks because they beat them at the beach. hahahahahahaha. Hey USA Today or Max Preps, rank South Hills nationally because they beat Orange Lutheran at the beach. hahahahhaha. Like that has any grounds. Parents please make sure your kids stay in school, because if they don't then they start to sound like complete idiots....saying things like my team is better because we beat them at the beach. Nice job representing South Hills. Im a true believer now. Go South Hills #1 Team in the universe. hahahhahahahaha.

huskies are the best? you're unbelievably laughable, because you beat OLu in a passing league game, c'mon now, how many tourneys or passing league games has LBPoly or De Le Salle ever won? and you think you could beat them too, on Madden 2099 or what? passing league is for exercise, schedule Amat, show some stones, or peebles in your case, then tell me all about your 7 on 7 skills, lmfao again at almost all the sh crowd!

amat is going to fall on its ass again. this was a tainted win because of the turnovers. Amat is not back just fortunate. You amat fans are annoying.

Bowden come one now kid dont try and cover yourself by saying your the backup wing on the jv, if that were the case how would you get a ring?? only varsity players earn rings.

And if you are angry at Amat And Charter Oak fans then you are childish and immature. Has anyone from either school ever personally attacked you? What have they done other than make our area and city better?

As for questioning my loyalty... i laugh at you for that, just cause i dont have your same outlook on the season and such does not mean that i am not a Husky. i just understand that no one is to be taken lightly your looking to December already??? What happens if Deen goes down??? what happens if Goss or Bevel goes down??? Football is a game of inches and momentum, just cause you go undefeated that doesnt mean you will win CIF. Teams that lose early and pick up the pace late are always the most dangerous, they have expirienced losing and understand what it means to play for something.

So dont try pulling this best in the state card we are good, not yet great. As for yourself, i am expecting you to attack me again so do your best and continue to embarass yourself. Good luck on the field and know that WE ARE ROOTING FOR YOU, even if you are a baby, Chris "Late Hit" Bowden

Husky Pride is out!

O YA AND 1 MORE THING!

EVERYBODY COME OUT ON THURSDAY TO WATCH ME PLAY

IM ON JV AND IM THE BACK-UP WING ON THE P.A.T. TEAM

HUSKY PRIDE AND JFR FOR TWO PEOPLE THAT CLAIM TO BE PART OF OUR TRADITION YOU SURE DON'T RESEMBLE WHAT LOYALTY MEANS CONSIDERING YOU CONTINUE TO ATTACK ME. LET'S AGREE HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE THAT BOWDEN IS PLAYING FOR US INSTEAD OF AGAINST US. EVERYONE REALIZES THE COACHING STAFF IS DOING HIM WRONG IN RECRUITING AND HE STILL PLAYS WITH MORE HEART AND TOUGHNESS GOING ABOUT HIS BUSINESS IN ON EVERY PLAY. YOU TWO NEED TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO BE ON OUR BANDWAGON OR NOT BECAUSE FROM WHAT I CAN TELL WE WILL BE THE LAST ONE STANDING AND FOR THAT START DIRECTING YOUR ANGER WHERE I AM AND THAT'S BISHOP AMAT AND CHARTER OAK FANS WHO REALLY BELIEVE THEY CAN COMPETE WITH US. I REPEAT CAN YOU NOT HEAR ME OR WERE YOU NOT LISTENING THE FIRST TIME SPORTS FANS? WE HAVE THE BEST ATHLETES AND COACHING WHICH EQUALS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER FOR ANYONE ELSE. ORANGE LUTHERAN SUCKS WE BEAT THEM BAD AT THE BEACH AND CHARTER OAK YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED ANYONE YET AND OUR DONE STARTING THIS WEEK! OH AND OUR SCORE AGAINST LA HABRA DOESN'T MATTER WE LIKE TO JUST FOCUS ON GETTING BETTER AND PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME AND COME DECEMBER THE ONLY PRESENT I WANT AND AM GOING TO GET IS A RING. SEE YOU IN THE STANDS PAYING TICKETS TO WATCH US PLAY. GOOD NIGHT. TIME TO GO OUT AND SCARE SOME MORE WANNABES IN THE VALLEY!

To all of the Amat fans: Lets not get UCLA fever, you may have just beat a team that some think should have a high rating but lets not get to high on the hog. Look at UCLA what comes up must come down...You still have some fierce compettion right around the corner who really want to put you in your place. Loose focus and your fans will be in a COMA for seasons to come. Glad you got a feel as to winning a big game but please dont let that be your exit. Peace from the other side of the 605

Here are some ranking from CalPreps... Now start some more fighting.

It pretty apparent BA does make some good points, weather you're a fan or not. Just support your kids and enjoy the season. Good Luck to all

Good post Joe, Im laughing my a$$ Off

Dang!

Teams keep GIVING USC all these wins with their turnovers. Ever since Pete Carroll has been at USC they are +104 in turnover margin.

They are so LUCKY!

BTW: Carroll started 2-5 in his first 7 games as a Trojan. He's 74-9 since.

We are not UCLA dumbass, this is High School Football and West Covina is no BYU.

Hag is no Neuheisel

At least WC has the gonads to schedule Mater Dei and Amat. It will be a hell of game and let the best team win.

What is your school idiot?

AMAT fans sound like UCLA fans two weeks ago! What happened to UCLA today...OUCH!

AMAT fans sound like UCLA fans two weeks ago! What happened to UCLA today...OUCH!

AMAT fans sound like UCLA fans two weeks ago! What happened to UCLA today...OUCH!

pointer-not if they schedule the best in the preseason when they get to pick who they play. step up the schedule in weeks 1-5. that's what the Lancers do. Ayala? seriously? La Habra was in the same division as SH when they scheduled, while Duarte, Northview and Rosemead are all in divisions lower than the Huskies. way to step up! no one puts down Oaks Christian or St Bonnies for being in a low division - because they avoid no one.

Did anyone get the yardage on those streakers at the diamond ranch colony game iam guessing maybe like 190 total..

anytime anywhere - what league does your baseball team AMAT play in? so you agree - their DIV IV championship is a sham - a joke right??

JD you can’t go saying anything bad about coaching decisions at Glendora because they make no mistakes and beside Mr.Turd from Glendora knows who you really are.
I think Mr. Turd or one of his aliases will have to admit and I’ll use his own words of what you saw last night was "suspect Pasqy methodology" which he stated on August 16th 2008 at 10:53 P.M under the alias “wow that was NOT something you should have admitted”

Joe Rogers would be proud !

anytime anywhere - what league does your baseball team AMAT play in? so you agree - their DIV IV championship is a sham - a joke right??

what is happening at damien?

South hills fans
why are you worried about amat. not one amat blogger starts off with we would destroy south hills, because do we really need to state the obvious. its great that you have done well but didnt you just move up from 8-man football.LOL. enjoy your success but keep it in perspective. the level of football you play at is nowhere near div 1/ pac 5 football

Hey Amat boosters, can you guys get the AMAT-OL game film on CD and make it available for sale at the West Covina game next week? It'll be a sell out.

I truly believe this is the game all kids dream about playing and this is a game film worth seeing over and over again. I think Hollywood might call and make a movie out of this inspiring biggest comeback win in the history of the SGV.

Make the call and make the CD available for sale, I want to order a dozen or so for my players.

And we all know why this SH poster is spewing his anti Amat venom, it's called you are no longer top dogs in the SGV. Unless you can beat higher caliber teams, you are just another team beating average teams. And we all know Ayala is no OL.

HUSKIES ARE THE BEST!

Dude, do you know the difference between your schedule and Amat?

Lipstick!

Lets see, you played Ayala ranked 176 by Max and 19.5 by Cal Preps. WOW and only beat them by What?

BA played a team ranked #5 by Max and 41.8 by Cal preps. Learned anything yet!

Here's a video interview with OLu coach and QB. They'll tell it like it is. Coaches, players, and fans take note of the accountability and responsibily they take in both interviews. Good leaders do not make excuses or pass the blame on to others. Not one, "woulda, coulda, shoulda, ... players didn't do this... officials didn't call that.... line didn't block.... yada, yada, yada."

Classy guys. Good luck to them the rest of the way.

Boz,

THE BEST derogatory moniker EVER....PunStang?.....that is effin HILARIOUS!!!

Anyhow, yeah we got our a$$es kicked last night, no denying that. But what I saw in that first half...well let's just say the Southeast championship is a three-horse race, with Muir CLEARLY a MAJOR contender. Anyone at the game last night can most certainly tell you that.

See ya'll in DECEMBER!!!

MOVE OVER TIM GILMORE,

THERE IS A NEW KID IN TOWN BY THE NAME OF MOSES VEGA!!!!!

Please enjoy this. This is one of the greatest upsets in not only Amat history but Southern California HS football.

Orange Lutheran was...

Ranked #1 in Orange County OC Varity/OC Register.

Ranked #3 in the State of California.

Ranked #15 in the Nation by ESPN.

not anymore.

West Covina 53 Blair 0-- La Puente? Another typo in the Sat.Tribune; Your recap should read Jesse Ili.

future predictions on next weeks game of amat and west covina. West covina will loose 35-6

So bowden what do you predict will be the score this week?

Little miss Husky AKA " I need to use spell check every time I type". How many spelling errors did I make on my last statement.

AGF,
How about we TOOK the game away from them? Do you really think they would open the door for knowing what was a stake? No one and I mean no one purposely gives up a 24 point lead.

Dear Husky GIRL, I went to SH you jerkoff, meaybe thaats wy i kant spel. It's IDIOTS like you who turn the valley against a good program, chill out and let the cards fall were they may. I'm sure coach Bog would be very happy with you spewing all this crap.

I LOVE THAT EVERYONE GETS THEIR PANTIES IN A WAD SPEAKING OF GIRLS. I LEAVE AND COMEBACK AND STILL THE SAME NONSENSE. WE WILL BE RANKED #1 IN THE VALLEY FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON. AND YES I AGREE BOGAN AND ROBLEDO ACT LIKE BEST FRIENDS FROM THEIR EDGEWOOD PAST BUT LETS FOCUS ON THE PRESENT AND WE ARE AT THE TOP OF THE S.G.V. AND C.I.F. FOR ONE REASON ALONE. WE ARE ALONE BY OURSELVES BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE. HUSKY PRIDE THERE IS NO EMBARRASSMENT IN THE FACT IS BOWDEN AND HIS BOYS ARE MAKING PLAYS AND WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE PLAYS EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT. WE ARE A TEAM OF DESTINY. TEAMS WERE EVEN INTIMIDATED BY US ON THURSDAY NIGHT WHEN WE WENT TO THE LOS ALTOS VS. NORTHVIEW GAME AND WE WEREN'T EVEN SUITED UP PLAYING. NO ONE HAS TO LIKE US BUT EVERYONE BETTER RESPECT US. JFR YOU CANNOT EVEN READ AND WRITE SO GET A TUDOR BEFORE YOU EVEN POST COMMENTS. MIKE NO ONE REMEMBERS WHEN YOU BEAT US 35-0 AND REGARDLESS COACH WASN'T EVEN AT PRACTICE THAT WEEK AND OUR SENIORS WERE ONLY SOPHMORES THEN SO THAT LOSS NOW IS A BLESSING IN DISGUISE. BISHOP AMAT YOU CANNOT DENY YOU ARE NOT GOING TO WIN LEAGUE OR C.I.F. AND LET'S BE HONEST WE WILL WIN BOTH OR AT LEAST FOR SURE BE COMPETING FOR A RING. YOU WOULD GET OUTCOACHED AND OUTPLAYED MONDAY THROUGH SUNDAY VS. US. GAME OVER!

ENJOY!!!!

"MIGHTY ARE THE MEN THAT WEAR THE BLUE AND GOLD"

or - they fought back into the game by winning the takeaway battle and FORCING turnovers - without committing any.

PLUS they held OLu to under 60 yrds rushing. Without, arguably, their best defender.

No luck involved there.

Plain, and simple. They let you back in the game.

Notes on Amat

First off, to all you folks who were gracious enough to put you own personal allegiances aside for the moment, I thank you.

I am referring of course to, sevenduce, bushleague, Jeremy, JFR, Stangfan, rdg2626 ET all.

It's nice when the SGV comes together and celebrates a big win by one of our own. So, to all of you, I say, a hearty, thank you to all!

As for the game itself, I have a few last observations, both the good and the bad. First the bad, because there is always a bad right?

The first thing I noticed that the beginning of the game was how well prepared the OL team was at the start. They spent at least one hour running dills and plays before the Amat team even got outside to warm up. It's no wonder then, that they jumped out to such a fast start. They came ready to play.

The second thing is that the team needs to work on the kicking game. The punters poor performance early, put us in the hole right away, and the field goal kicking, by the back up kicker was very poor in the second half.

As for the good points, wow, where do I start?

First off, you could tell the difference in the game once the coaches made those adjustments. One thing I noticed was that the running backs came up closer to the line of scrimmage. This helped the running game tremendously, because the running backs were able to get to the holes much faster.

The offensive line really stood out this time around. They did not make any mistakes and they allowed the QB to have more time in order to complete allot of the short yardage pass plays.

Third. I just loved the fact that the coaches set up the OL defense with that short yardage play in which they scored a TD.

What happened was that throughout the game, the offense showed, and played run, with the backfield full of backs. On this one play, the OL defense was expecting the run, but the QB threw the ball to the corner of the end zone and wham ! Six points!

In conclusion, all I can say is, great job coaches !

Hey Bearcat Fever,
You trying to build up some resentment for the Bonita CO game? We played a couple of cupcakes? Seems to me you played Covina 5-5 last year and Claremont 0-10 last year. What does that all prove? Coach Farrar also used his reserves in the last quarter. These are pre-season games . Why try to start something already.

severance due:

Not true about both ways. If you noticed in the game Hagerty is slowing working his defensive studs on to the offensive side of the game. Seals, Prieto, Maffie all critical to scores-Seals with 3 TD's. Not saying they should go both ways all of the time but let's face it, those kids are the best players especially with the speed. I think Hagerty will start using them more in spot situations. I would like to see MC have more targets with speed at receiver, use Johnson, Price, Maffie. Prieto out of the backfield-all track guys with speed. We could really put points up.

Any Given,
O LU was spotted a 24-0 lead, the 5 turnovers lead to the comback. It would be totally different if the score was 0-0, then we would have won 47-15. That sounds a lot better doesn't it?

Why don't you read the ENTIRE thread instead of picking and chosing or is reading not your forte?

Bowden can you please shut it. Your embarassing yourself, your family and sadly your embarassing our school.

I too believe we are good but to say that our boys would tear any team in the valley??? Come on man be smarter than that.

Congratulations to Bishop Amat sounds like it was a hell of a game.

SEMHS FAN 3481

I could'nt agree with you more. However the difference in this game was the adjustments they made at half time.

In a bitter lost like this, sometimes you have to give credit where credits due.

They slowed Jose down big time in the second half and we had no answer for Barbone. Reading the paper this morning, that kid had 248 yds and 5 tds. A remarkable performance!

We'll be okay, just need to put it behind us and move on.

Congratsulation on a big win Amat, looks like you could be back to D1 status again, if not, you at least took a big step in the right direction. Way to humble the OC, WC will
have their work cut out for them, but Maggiori will do his best to have them ready for battle, hopeing for a great game this Friday, and no injuries, good luck to both teams and GO BULLDOGS!

lancer2dn
very classy
great post
good luck

from a los altos guy

Five OLU turnovers should lead the amat stat sheet.

And, you only won by eight.

Whatever boys...

One great win. No need to start ordering our rings but this will be a up year for Bishop Amat, A good sign for the SGV. When you beat a powerhouse like a Orange Lutheran word spreads and right now Amat has the OC ringing of talk of this program that has been down but may be back (there are lots of games left). The meat of the schedule is not here(league) but if this is a indicator, look out!. Oh I am sure if Amat gets to the playoffs this Orange Lutheran team would love to see them again. Tough to beat a team twice. For today us Lancers must stay humble do not tute our horn that much and let this team focus on whats ahead of them. Hagerty has them pointed in the right direction but I have seen teams come back flat after a big win, altho I have also witnessed teams steamroll their schedule after a big win. Which path Amat chooses is yet to be seen. I am pumped for this West Covina game, the home opener, man will Kiefer be rocking. This Lancer team will be pumped to finally be home and get their crowd behind them not that we not last nite but Home crowd is a different feeling. You could almost smell this coming when Hags got here, he just had this different approach then the last coach and assembled a solid staff. Hope the winning tradition comes back to Amat this year and like most Smart bloggers here note this is good for all teams and all of the SGV. If this team continues to win the Monsignor Carroll will start to make big bucks over at Amat home games, ah te old days may be back... also the energy will bring outsiders and More recruits not to mention scouts. Feels good to be a Lancer today lets keep rolling but always stay in control not to spoil it by fighting the haters on this Blog. We know what we have and it is something Special for now TODAY!. Amat is the Tribunes #1 team.

SEM vs. SD

I was embarrassed to see SEMHS lose this way. 1st half was a game which seemed ok. 2nd half, just like the 1st half, was all Nico Barbone (excuse the spelling), that dude just raped the defense (what defense) that SEMHS put across. I'm sorry but Coach Escamilla, your defense coach (the one that's new this year) is pathetic, not once did I hear a yell from him to any of the defensive players. Your coaches are soft, they don't say jackshit to the players to hype them up.

If SEMHS (being an alumni and fan) expects to have a somewhat decent season with playoff opportunities, their defense needs a major overhaul. Offensive line, which to me look like the same group on defense, needs to hold the line longer. Jose Garay (QB) threw excessive "hurried" throws that fell incomplete. Another thing, why on earth was Garay playing more than 2 positions? (QB,K,D)? WTF? Excamilla, I know you have more players to fill up those other spots, but you risk injuring your star QB by allowing/forcing him to juggle all those positions.

GOOD WIN AMAT!!!! KEEP IT UP

SH fans please stop talking, all you guys talk about is how you guys think your the best in the valley. BA and CO are the best in the valley. I hope you guys remember that CO blew you guys out 35-0 two seasons ago. They probably would have killed you guys last year to. They had a better team last year then the team 2 years ago. So stop saying you guys deserve all this respect because you DON'T. CO has an unstoppable backfield, a great QB and amazing OL and DL. Dont even think you can compete with BA and CO!!!!

Muir who?,

You're right we were humbled. It's not like we thought we would blow OC's doors off or anything. Matter of fact, i predicted a 31-20 loss. And I'd hate to sound like that fan who comes on after and says there were some great things to be proud of after a 43-14 loss, but the reality is there were some things.

LATE in the 2nd quarter the score was 10-8 (OC) and we were playing WELL. Hitting hard, flying to the ball, creating havoc...the D was on fire!!! But as is the case with such a prepared team as OC, a couple of mistakes by our offense and the next thing you know OC's heading into the half with a 24-8 lead. Two turnovers, a fumble and a pick were BOTH taken to the house for 6. After that, you just knew we would have to play WAY above our heads and mistake-free the rest of the way. Well we didn't, and we turned the ball over 3-4 MORE times, another which went to the house, and that was all she wrote.

So why am I optimistic? Well Ourr D was lights out and OC legitmately scored on our D just twice. Every other score was a direct result of a turnover (3 to the house) and the others giving them GREAT field position. I will say this. OC would beat us 8 out of 10 games because of ALL the advantages they have, but right now they have reached about 90% of their potential. Muir isn't close to hitting theirs yet and I would say we are around 60-65% of where we'll be in weeks 9 and 10. That's why I'm optimistic about this season, well that and our D is EFFIN GOOD!!! We are going to go 9-1 on the regular season and go DEEEEEEP into the playoffs. DEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!

And again GREAT WIN AMAT!!!! I don't even mind all of your annoying-ass fans today...that is a HUGE win for the SGV!!!!

AND NO South Hills you are NOT the best!!! You guys would get HANDLED by BA. Hell they don't even have arguably their best player yet. I hate Amat like any other jealous SGVer, but I couldn't be any prouder of those boys today. Great job Lancers!!!

Oh yeah, good win DR! Is Colony really that bad to be outscored 63-7 in the first two weeks of the season???!!!

Huskies are the best
"Are you wacked" you talk about a state championship, you just slipped by an average Ayala team last night and you can't talk with a schedule like yours. "It's just weak". Amat congrats on last nights victory but i think it will be short lived.OL either didn't play up to it's potential or they have been over hyped.I've seen CO and DR and they will be the teams to beat by playoff time, they both have Tough defenses and pretty good running games. Also if the QB at SH doesn't get offered a scholarship he can thank there coach for playing a soft schedule,I believe that's why he hasn't been offered, the recruiters are waiting to see him play against some better talent which might not be till playoff time.

joe amat,
great win for you guys and the sgv. but i hope your fellow amat faithfull listen to you . i cant believe some of the things they are saying.
if we dont win another game all season we still should be number 1 in the valley.
ol's coach didnt blame the lost just on turnovers, he said twice in the few lines he said bishop did a great job, and by the way he is one of the finest , gracious coaches around, whats he suppose to say ? we played great. he was just being honest, if you ask hags what he said to him after game, i promise he was nothing but class.
i would love it if
amat wins cif
sh or co wins cif
sd wins cif
but amat guys, just slow down and win with some class. again , great win last night !!!

King Crud,
I expect nothing less from you simply because you, as always, are NOTHING! You're still a donkey and always will be one. So keep staring at those hairy donkey @$$e$ and smelling those donkey farts becuase that's all your life is ever going to be.

SUCK THIS!!!!!!!!!

Hey PunStang, Looks like Oaks gave your ponies an A$$-KICKING last night.

Wake up SGV fans,

I am no Amat fan but that win last night was huge for them and good for OUR valley. The only time you should vomit your smack about a local team is the week you play such team. Many local teams had good wins last night against teams outside the area. Kudos SGV, keep it up.

Take a look at history.

When Bishop Amat is winning, the rest of the SGV elite are better.
Teams such as Los Altos(my team), South Hills, Charter Oak, and hell even Damien is better when Amat is successful rather than down.

I hope this is the sign of things to come.

Huskies Are The Best , Put the pipe down, It was a great win for BA over OLU. and as far as you going to the state championship game, come on! you still have to contend with La Habra nesk week, (didn't they spank you last year) and Maybe a couple of good teams like Rosemead and Northview teams. Well! OK OK LOL maybe just Rosemead. But yes Smaller schools none the less. Another this the only reason you have the Valleys #1 ranking is beacause Dean is your QB , I like him, Good Kid, Oh yeah and beacause of FRED . Yes You FRED. Like I said Before, When Bishop Amat is good It makes the whole E. SGV better. Congrats on a big win BA. Looking forward to next week. So Buckel up and get ready for the ride. This is what Friday Night Lights is all about.

Huskies best cheerleader,

Keep talking smack little GIRL.

How sad! Only one person comments on DB's win. Where did the "purple do it in the stands" crazies go? Glad you're hanging in there Patrick.

Fred
The decision to rush three linemen, all game against upland was the Tartans biggest mistake. The upland QB could of finished his homework he had so much time.It was shocking to watch no defensive ajusments, blitzing, four linemen packages were ever made by the coaches to pressure uplands QB. The turnovers did hurt but to sit and watch our linemen doubled teamed all night long was disheartening.Unless better decisions are made it will be a long season!

Enjoy the victory. NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE IN THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY COULD HAVE DONE WHAT BISHOP AMAT DID LAST NIGHT. NOT SOUTH HILLS, NOT CHARTER OAK,

Bishop Amat may have busted through or just busted out. Either way that was a tremendous win. What makes the win more impressive is the forced turnovers and the ability to capitalize on them. Being down by 24 well that's the stuff of legends. 24 points!!!! Just a great great win.

West Covina might play the spoiler and bring them back to earth but I highly doubt they have the goods. Practice on Monday should bother the neighbors with all the noise that school will be making on the field.

Congratulations to Hagerty and staff.

EVERY TEAM IN THE SGV "HOPES" THIS IS "NOT" THE "AWAKENING" OF A SLEEPING "GIANT".....

what a joke. amat was handed A GIFT.

By the way, Hags is now 11-28 in his last 39 games and Amat has the same record as Ganesha!

This post -game thread should be renamed "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda....Did!" That's what bloggers come on here to talk about. "We woulda done this, coulda done that, coach shoulda ... or WE DID IT!"

Congrats to the Lancers and Coach Hagerty. This is the kind of performance we were looking forward to the week of the 50 Years of Excellence Celebration, when Hags was hired. That Saturday at a dinner Hags was surrounded by the great Amat championship coaches of all-time like Parades, Patricio, Salter, Marinovich, Cantwell, Lokar, Kendrena, Wiard, and more. There is no reason with the present coaching staff in place - that in a fortunate year - Steve could join that bunch.

But before everyone starts crowning the Lancers, this was one win. Albiet against a very good team, but one win nonetheless. In the grand scheme of things - it's only one win, so let's not get too excited. But below the surface it signifies much more. It signifies the beginning of a change in the culture of the program. This win is Amat and Hags answer to UCLA and Neuheisel's win over Tennessee. By itself it means a great win against a great team. In the big picture it goes far beyond taht and gives players and fans something to believe in and look forward to.

I'm sure the staff told them to enjoy it after the game, but work begins on Saturday for West Covina. The other point of reference a game like this serves, is that the shoe can always be put on the other foot - if you become complacent. If a hungry team like Amat can pull an upset...well, you don't EVER want to be on the other end of that. And it can happen if you're not careful.

I'm sure the Bulldogs are going to show up Friday with the same goal as Amat had against Olu, and I expect them to show up with their "A-game". The Lancers better bring theirs.

Although, the poster below who predicted them to hold the Lancers to 6 points... they just dropped 43 on the 8th ranked team in the State. No predictions here, and it could be close...but 6 pts...really? OLu beat Mater Dei last year... i think that WesCo fans remember them.

It's a great week to be a Lancer.

another observation from last night that lends credence to the fact that hagerty's vision is right on is the orange lutheran players were extremely tired in the 4th because several of them played both ways almost the entire game. since amat's kids don't go both ways, they were more fresh when it counts. and remember, fatigue makes cowards out of the toughest men (i.e. all those forced fumbles). again, great job by the coaching staff to stick with what they believe where personnel is concerned. also, was extremely happy for gener (sp.?) who had a great game in run support. the linebackers did a great job, particularly from the 2nd quarter on and i thought that interception run back by johnson was exciting. too bad he didn't get in the endzone. offensively, congrats to the o-line, they figured it out! mcclanahan was nails and the receiving corp continues to amaze me. gaisie and anderson are a really nice 1-2 punch and i like the toughness and quickness of the fb. good team here. next week should be another exciting game.

South Hills talking trash, come on Brogan you know as well as everyone else, Amat will play anyone in the valley any time and that has been it's stance every year. CO stepped up when they were strong and they got smacked two years in a row along with Damien. Glad to see your counter parts have the nads to step up this year. I never thought I would see the day that West Covina and Diamond Ranch had bigger nads then South Hills.

Hagerty is a class act and he is teaching the boys about football and life in general. He is teaching them about what it means to be a Lancer and I see that he is teaching them to believe in themselves. I am not one that is proclaiming them CIF champs but congrats on beating a team that was what top 5 in the state and top 10 in the nation. Great job Lancers, keep believing. I see the freshman won also, keep it building....

LOOKS LIKE I OFFENDED A FEW BOYS. US MEN OVER HERE AT SOUTH HILLS ARE NOT AFRAID OF ANYONE ESPECIALLY YOU BISHOP AMAT. YOU WIN ONE GAME AND SUDDENLY YOUR PROGRAM IS ALIVE AND WELL AND YOUR BACK. SHUT UP! LET'S EXAMINE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WHEN WE KEEP WINNING C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIPS AND CONTENDED FOR A TITLE. YOU LOSE AND OUR PRETENDERS! I KNOW OUR VICTORY OVER ORANGE LUTHERAN THIS SUMMER WAS ONLY PASSING LEAGUE BUT THE POINT IS ORANGE LUTHERAN IS DOWN AND WERE ALWAYS UP. OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE BETTER COACHING AND BETTER ATHLETES SO WE WIN AND BEAT YOU CONVINCINGLY ESPECIALLY BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A BIG WIN SHOWN BY YOUR ACTIONS ON THIS BLOG. CHARTER OAK IF YOU MAKE THE C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME YOU GET BEAT TOO SO EVERYONE ELSE ACCEPT YOUR COMPETING FOR SECOND PLACE IN THE VALLEY. BISHOP AMAT YOUR PATHETIC! YOU LITERALLY WIN ONE BIG GAME AND ARE ACTING LIKE YOUR SOMETHING SPECIAL. YOU SUCK BUT THAT'S RIGHT EVERYONE SHOULD SEND THEIR KIDS TO YOUR SCHOOL DEEP IN THE HEART OF LA PUENTE. I'M SORRY GO RAIDERS! NO BETTER YET THAT'S WHO YOUR PROGRAM IS AT THE PRO LEVEL. YOUR THE RAIDERS AND WERE THE PATRIOTS! COME BUY A TICKET THIS DECEMBER AND WATCH US PLAY IN THE SUPER BOWL. THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WE WILL WIN TO REPRESENT OUR VALLEY!

I'm on my way to Vegas for a weekend golf outing, be back early next week. Again, not just a great win by Amat, but South Hills, Charter Oak, West Covina, Rosemead, they're making the SGV proud. And yes, I do feel good for Amat bloggers, this is the biggest win since the invention of this blog, that's for sure. I say they start 5-1 with games against West Cov, Diamond Ranch, Damien and St. Francis...See ya all next week at Amat, our game of the week, right?

BISHOP AMAT IS AMAZING. THEY KEPT FIGHTING LAST NIGHT AND ENDED UP WINNING 47-39 GOOD JOB BOYS

hahaha. you are a idiot. This coach Hagerty is for real. Lenhart did not do too bad vs Los Osos. Starting McClanahan only means he is giving the QB position more thought and wants to see both play a starting role until he decides who is going to lead them in the second half of the season. I would not be surprised if he switched them back and fourth for the next 3 games giving both a start for 2 games then deciding. Fair coach and smart one I may add.

Posted by: Good Move | September 11, 2008 4:50 PM
I said this coach can coach and it makes a huge differance. Hagerty has them playing football. He is all about fielding the best team and utilizing his best players. He outcoached one of the legends of prep football last nite. Amat is back and to all the haters I know which game you will be at this comming friday. Kiefer will be packed glad I bought my season tickets. I knew Hags was special. Great job coach keep the team humble and tear up WC. Oluth great in defeat what class. Jerry Mc. you were outstanding. That adjustments to the Oline from the Los Osos game was like nite and day..again great coaching. Sucks my kid missed this coach by 1 year and played under Verti. Glad for this Lancer Team Keep up the great work. Fred Robledo no doubt The Lancers are the No#1 team anything less and I cancel my Tribune.

Sweet Amat Victory.

South Hills beat Who?

Yes that's right Amat is
Back. Way to represent the SGV. We are all proud of you boys and the coaching staff.

West Covina you guys must be shaking in your boots.

When you have St. Paul people rooting for Amat, you know something good is happening for a good reason.

Just my thoughts...

Maybe not the comparison Amat fans would like to hear, but I remember some years back when I went to St. Paul we played Redlands I believe it was. The Redlands players were huge. You could just hear some of the St. Paul fans muttering among themselves how we were going to get killed. Well needless to say, we ended up winning that game. It got me thinking about what Coach Anchich said once..."You may be bigger than us. You may be faster than us. But your not going to out hit us!"

..Lenhart did great as a receiver for a reason...He's a quarterback. He knows exactly what the quarterback is thinking and where he needs to be as a receiver. Lay off him. He did his job and did it well.

...A team that can't do anything with turnovers is a poor team. A team that can convert those turnovers (emphasis plural) into points CONSISTENTLY is a good team not a "lucky" team.

...Yes, good coaches do make a difference...with or without talent

callin it right now

wes co 13 amat 6

Hey CO Charger

I wouldn't be talking. You guys played two cupcakes over the last two weeks.

AV 1-9 and Pioneer 6-4. come on dude, thats it?

Amat is high on this victory, and for good reason, as for insight as how the Amat South Hills game would go. use the Amat W.CO game as a measuring stick. and trust me Bogan has the nuts to make a phone call. but as for the ill advised blog by huskies are the best, it smells like C Bowden is the blogger.

Fred

Man I hate the fact that their coach said that. For him to blame their loss soly on turnovers, is poor sportsmanship, because the fact was that it was the Amat defense that created those turnovers.

There were at least two fumbles and an interception in the seconf half which lead to scoring opportunities for Amat, and they did not score on all of them.

In fact, the score could have been allot bigger had the Amat kicker not missed the field goal and the two extra points.

One more thing, lets not make this into an anti-Lenhart blogg. The kid played his heart off as a reciever and he did very very well out there.

It must have been a bitter sweet victory for him, but my hat is off to him in this game.

A couple of notes here. The Amat team got short changed by the ref's in the second half quite a bit, but they still overcame all of that and the expected OL onslought in the last quarter.

Lets not also forget that the Freshman team also won their game and that the future looks real good for Amat.

As for the Amat hate Club (AHC)...well, better turn in you're badges boys.

You dont get a tune-up from La Puente before playing Amat.

WC will have their hands full next week.

W.C. you better get ready AMAT is back. We need a few tune up games before we get into the meat of our schedule.

If this was the BCS we would get dinged for scheduling CREAM PUFFS.

Wow, all I have to say is that barring the championship games, this one HAS to go down in Amat history.

Congrats to the coaching staff who kept the team focused, hbow many other teams have yopu known ever to come back from a 24-0 hole? Against ANY team of this caliber? This coaching move should have been done 2 years ago.

Props to the team for believing in themselves and not getting down. You did us proud boys!

As we savor the moment, come Monday starts another week, with a game that is sure to be another barn burner. WC let's rock!

South Hille, eat our dust!

Huskies are the best?
You got it right you will go 15-0 in the MIDDLE SCHOOL division. This is AMAT we play BIG BOY FOOTBALL. What division have you been in all these years? div xi, div iv. you stay down own the bottom where you belong. Go ask charter oak why your coach doesn't want to play AMAT. We carry the torch for the SGV. Always have Always will. SCOREBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonita only beats Claremont a 0-10 last year by 15.

Wow, cant wait to play them..

SGV….The sleeping giant has reawakened….Yes, that is right. Bishop Amat is BACK!!!! The LA Times predicted Orange Lutheran as team with huge possibilities of playing for the state championship...and guess who just beat them? Bishop Amat, congratulations on a fantastic ball game. And to that “Huskies are the best” guy…Why schedule a team like South Hills…when you can get quality opponents like Orange Lutheran to play against…Amat does play in the PAC 5 with teams like Long Beach Poly and Mater Dei…they need to play the best to be the best…South Hills is a waste of schedule space…Good job Lancers…enjoy this tonight…and get back to work tomorrow…

i just want to let everyone know that lenhardt was playing receiver all night tonight and did a great job....when mclanahan was struggling in the first half, lenhardt was the only one he was completing passes to. Great job to all the boys in blue! you all played phenomenal tonight!

Hey Huskie call first thing Monday morning we have weeks zero, one, two or four avaliable. That's if you got the nuts to call.

Verti who???? Tonight was a great example of real coaching. Amat has had the talent the last few years, they just didn't have the coaching staff to prepare them. Looks like they do now. Imagine if they had this staff back then. What might have been. Great job Hagerty and staff. McClanahan way to take the QB job. Lenhart better get used to being a holder for XP the rest of the season or trying to catch passes.

SOUTH HILLS MAKES EVERY OTHER TEAM J.V. STATUS IN THE VALLEY. WE BEAT BISHOP AMAT BY AT LEAST THREE TOUCHDOWNS IF WE PLAYED THEM. BOGAN SAID HE'S ALWAYS BEEN WILLING TO PLAY THEM BUT BISHOP AMAT IS ACTUALLY AFRAID TO SIGN A CONTRACT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN EVERYTHING TO LOSE. SOUTH HILLS UNDEFEATED THIS YEAR AND STATE CHAMPIONS. 15-0 IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION. BISHOP AMAT YOU WILL BE DONE IN THE FIRST ROUND GUARANTEED IF YOU EVEN QUALIFY FOR THE PLAYOFFS. THAT'S RIGHT THE HUSKIES ARE THE NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE VALLEY AND WILL BE FOR THE YEAR. EVERYONE ELSE IS SECOND IN THIS VALLEY TO US. DON'T BELIEVE ME BUT YOU WILL BE BUYING TICKETS IN DECEMBER WATCHING US WIN ANOTHER C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP. SEE YOU THERE. DON'T BE JEALOUS JUST BE HAPPY WERE REPRESENTING YOU AND CLAP FOR US AT OUR CEREMONY. I WANT BISHOP AMAT. PLAY US LANCERS! WHAT IS SOUTH HILLS RANKING IN THE VALLEY? THAT'S RIGHT NUMBER ONE!

Hey Muir Fans

What happened? I guess you got a little humbled tonight.. LOL

great win for amat. ol was out coached tonight and outplayed. many people in the stands failed to realize that ol started with field position inside amat's 40 the first 4 or 5 possessions of the game. they did not have to travel very far to put up the 24 they did. once amat settled down, they dominated scoring 35 unanswered until the 4th quarter. i have to agree with jcaz... ol's coaches, players, and fans were extremely classy and of that i was very proud. great game for the lancers who are definitely the class of the valley and should be 2-0 tonight.

Fred:

You lose, Saints Win and destory your pick..

Good pick Steve!

Such a wonderful game! Stood for the last three quarters screaming! I am so very proud of you all from players to coaches to AT staff!

well well i must say congrats to amat. RIX man i hope your well, and as for the dogs on the road tonight the first half defense was great keep it going S.H. fight on. and Amat dont sleep on W.C they can ramble

I have been watching high school football in the SGV for over 40 years and I was really impressed with the Amat coaching staff. They never let their kids give up and made great adjustments. They didn't have mistakes except for some questtionable calls by the referees late in the game. McClanahan shoudl start every game from here on out. He simply has the "IT" factor. His teammates definitely believe in him. There is now way Lenhart would have led them back from 24 down. Great job Hags and staff.

Great job Lancers!!!! You have made us all proud. Go to live it up the lancer way.

Our friends at the Register helped us out, here's what they wrote

By DAN ALBANO
OCVarsity staff

COSTA MESA — Orange Lutheran committed five turnovers in its season-opening game but won easily.

Orange County’s top-ranked team made five turnovers against Bishop Amat of La Puente on Friday night and wasn’t so fortunate.

Bishop Amat forced all five of its turnovers in the second half and rallied from a 24-point second-quarter deficit to stun Orange Lutheran, 47-39, at Orange Coast College.

Bishop Amat (1-1) trailed 24-0 with less than five minutes left in the second quarter but took the lead in third and never let it go. Bishop Amat scored 28 points off of Orange Lutheran’s turnovers.

Orange Lutheran coach Jim Kunau was quick to praise Bishop Amat but he didn’t miss the significance of his team’s turnovers.

“How many did we have? Five? Ten?” said Kunau, whose team last week beat Bullard of Fresno, 35-17.

“First of all, I take my hat off to Bishop Amat. Boy, what a great job they did. They played really hard and they obviously did a great job capitalizing on our mistakes.”

Notes on Amat

What can I say ? A wonderfull win made even sweeter because they did not give up after falling behind early.

And What a difference a year makes eh ? This coaching staff made adjustments and pulled it off.

I was so busy screaming my head off and slapping the window on the coaches box (congradulating them) that I compleatly lost my voice.

Way to go Lancers, and yes, that other Lancer team showed a great deal of class out there. They were truly gracious in defeate.

just a small correction fred...Amat came back from 24-0 and the final score was 47-39...hagerty found a way to put A LOT of points on the board!

COLONY THEN OAKS CHRIST.THEN AMAT...... PANTHERS HAVE ONE OF THE TOUGHEST SCHEDULES!!!!!

Way to go boys!!! Huge win for the Amat Family. You guys just played a memory maker! Enjoy it tonight cause tomorrow starts preparation for the next week (films and conditioning), you gotta love it! Our Lady Queen on Victory.....AMAT!

West Covina did not play La Puente....they played Blair high school... just a heads up.and for you bishop amat fans, great win for you guys and really looking forward to next weeks game!

"BIG VICTORY FOR PANTHERS"
DR defense was huge tonight against a very strong Colony team. Brian Spirlin had a big game rushing and the OL is looking very strong. "Go Panthers"

Fred, you have to put Amat on top of your poll, no one else has the stones to even schedule like Amat does, let alone beat them, we'll run thru the next 3, WC,Damien and DRanch......enough said!

Congrats to the entire Amat Family on a huge win!
I hope you can keep it going.

Also congrats to a good CO team, you just need to make the first contact count. To manny yards by Pioner from missed tackles.

That Temple City team looked sharp. Arroyo was weak but TC did what they should do.

GREAT WIN Amat!!! You guys battled back against a DAMN GOOD Olu team. That's fu**ing AWESOME!!!

I am not a Lancer fan AT ALL, but I'm so fired up and proud that a SGV team took it to a OC powerhouse.

And yes, you guys are BY FAR the best team in the valley....bar none!!!! We ALL hate to admit it, but that's just keeping it really real.

I'd hate to see what you guys are going to do to DR. You guys will probably beat them by 40!!!

GREAT JOB BA.....

I can't believe the nogales-garey game.

Garey got luck with that last second touchdown pass.

This is why we cannot be counted out at any time. WE ARE AMAT . To all the haters out there THIS BUDS FOR YOU . Great victory for the Men in Blue and the whole coaching staff . Enjoy the moment but there are many battles ahead so stay focused. Get ready SGV because WE ARE BACK.

BISHOP AMAT IN DA HOUSE

PANTHERS GREAT WIN....GET FIRED-UP FOR OAKS CHRISTIAN NEXT WEEK.GET SOME!!!!

Good Luck next week Lancers, show them what we're about!!

Hey FredJ:

How about an action shot of Amat instead of of pic of a cheerleader who graduated 2 yrs ago !!!!

Number 1 Fred, that's a no brainer.

Now it's time to sign up the new recruits.

Frosh wins

BA over OL,

They're Baaaaack !!!!

Interesting....

I thought they would lose a close one, but instead they win a shoot-out...

That coaching staff is starting to gel.

I guarantee the entire PAC5 is taking notice.

Congrats to BA,

GLENDORA SCORE ????

I need some sleep , I guess I'll wait for the fish wrap.

BIG DAY TOMORROW !!!

Good Job SGV !!!

Fight On

TM

That was possibly one of the best upset underdog games in Amat history. Congrats Lancers! Heck of a game. You made the SGV proud!

Let me soak this whole night....but for SGV or Joe Amat or any other Amat fan or hater this may be one of biggest wins in their history...yes, yes, they won titles and upset top national teams (Loyola and Carson), but this team was counted out and people said the SGV did not have the talent to compete...for me this is right up their with their biggest wins..any thoughs? We have a long way to go, but perhaps the sound you year is Every Where We Go....

Fred, is that a serious question? - where should be put amat now?? NUMBER ONE! even if they lose the rest of their games, that was enough!

Congrats to Bishop Amat !!!

Keep it up , way to samck down the OC . Where ya @ now Whitey? Where is D Brown from C town ...

FIGHT ON

TM

Wilson lost to Sonora 21-31. Wilson had a ton of penalties and there tackling sucks. Coach your true colors are showing you suck go home.

Im Donkey Boy and I am now an Amat believer. Baa Haa
I'm eating crow.

Lancers will destroy the WC puppies, bring on South Hills puppies too.

SD man handles SEM 56-33 but it wasn't really even that close. Saints offense was unstopable. Offensive line was great and back field lead by Barbone was just following the big O line all night long. No problem for the Saints!

Amat wins. 43-39, let's celebrate. Lenhart you are benched dude.

Here we come PAC5, Serra league.

Gatorade for everyone!

Happy days are here again!

We just beat a top 10 ranked team in the state, what does that say about this new team?

Excelent job Lancers, wait untill Bowens steps back in then we'll be UNSTOPABLE

Amat falls on the on-side...AAAMMMMMAAAAAATTT Wins!!!!!!!!1

Short lived Happy Night for BA Lancers- The WC Bulldog Express looks like a Juco team and ready to eat some Lancer Armor. Maggiorre's boys will be ready.

AMAT WILL SHINE TONIGHT!!!! AMAT WILL SHINE!!!!

WHEN THE SUN GOES GOES DOWN AND THE MOON GOES UP...

AMAT WILL SHINE!!!!!!!

The radio buy for OLu has a lot of class....Giving Amat all the props for the game

Just got in from the San Dimas-SEM game. Game was close for the first half. Second was a whole diffrent story. Saints came out on fire and just dominated. I smell championship. And for those who are wondering where the band was. They were at the fair for San Dimas day.

Go Saints!!!

AMAT you just made the entire SGV including me proud. Amat scores again, holy cow, this will be a 48-32 game, after trailing 24-0 in the first.

What a game!!!!!!!!!.

Gaisie for Vice President

Amat scores TD TD TD!

Another 4th and inches, First down AMAT! with under 3 minutes go at OL 34.

I smell a beautiful UPSET!!!!!!!!!!

Its what I've been saying the last 3 years. AMAT CAN win with the talent it has if they eliminate all the favoritism and politics. Lenhart should be benched the rest of the season, like he should have been last year and Carrillo should have been the season before that.

First down!!!!!!

McClanahan for President

Gaisie at the 42 yard line. first and 10 with under 6 minutes. Anderson pickup 3 yards. Good job McC I knew u were the man for this job. Got anothe completion at Amat 49. Here we go Amat, here we go. 4th and short, and we are going for it. First down!!!!!!!!

SGV all love brother

So whats up with Vince Young talking about suicide?

Nothing but love for my Amat brothers. Where is your sense of humor dude.
Heck OL just scored. Going for a 2pt conversion is good after another pass interference on the D. Amat lead is cut to 3.

Olu convert for 2 too close for me

Olu scores...they are going for two Amat

Time for morrison to go. Damien needs a new head coach. This is embarrasing.

Sike!!.........

Diamond Bar 34

Sorry about that, but like I said Sister Kristian (RIP) only gave me a B

SGV,

Good Job justrab

OC register has the score 35-24. Yes?

It's 11 points Justrab, get your math together!

Amat 4th and short on the OL 3rd after another OL turnover. Momentum on Amats side, cramps starting to set in for Olineman. AMAT TD. we are up 35-24. We are making history tonight folks!

Olu coach has the entire team in a meeting....

I took my son to his first RHS game , and the Panthers delivered. If this is a sign of things to come , watch out these kids look for real Covina might not be a Powerhouse but the RHS Panthers did WHATEVER they wanted ! Sumler is as solid a RB as I have ever seen ...
