Time Warner's Reginald Miller, prep editor Fred J. Robledo and sports writer Steve Ramirez discuss four of Friday's big football games. By the way, Miller does a great job following our local teams and beyond on his popular site "A Local Sports Show" ... go check it out.

Fred:
heres my take:
Friday's games
Damien at Bishop Amat, 7:30 p.m.
amat wins big as the coaching has done awesome and they have some horses.
yes qb doing well, as they have hired qb coach rix, am i right, a luxury other schools do not have....
West Covina vs. Glendora at Charter Oak, 7 p.m.
Ili is an animal , very good player, heart of a lion, is this the same back at nogales last year????
glendora should win though...
Baldwin Park at Bonita, 7 p.m.
bonita does well at home should win on their turf.
Charter Oak vs. Rancho Cucamonga at Los Osos, 7 p.m.
i like charter oak, they have tons of talent and depth. They have a great tailback and the backup might be as good. They have a great qb and their back ups at '6' 5" and another 6' 4". Its nice to be a school of choice for those outstanding players not living in their district.
15 more days till "SMUDGEPOT"
GO SAINTS!!
The BoHiFan makes a couple of pretty good points about the Bearcat two-ways.
When Bonita lines up on offense they have the MLB or NT at TE and the FS and one or more of the CB's out wide. Explosive at first but tiring after a couple of quarters. This is, as pointed out, especially telling on Podley's passcentric spread O which runs the legs out from under ends and slots.
Bringing Hubbard back will help as would some first half sit downs for Gatti, Gardner, Gelalich, and Price.
The play on both sides of the ball isn't a problem specific to Bonita, almost everyone has a couple of kids who go both ways. The spread needs fresh legs though, there are no traditional running plays for the receivers to coast on; no dives and off tackle power plays or sweeps to the other side of the field, and it's hard to stay fresh when your receivers also anchor the D.
Ask the Guru; he'll tell ya.
Hey Fred..why is it so hard to get to "JUST TRIBBIN..could it be you don't want people to see the comments? fred you're a d-bag..
Hey Fred:
Better re-track some statements. Homes is not averaging 167 a game. How about 167 total yards.
BIG DIFFERNECE between 83.5 per game and 167.

Fred,
You really back peddled on the bearcats. The Canyon game was a lot closer than the score reflects. Two plays! That was all canyon had. A dropped punt, gave Canyon them great field position, only to come away with 3. Bonita had a dropped TD in the endzone, a blown field goal attempt. Defense did a great job against a much bigger team. Offensively they moved the ball ,but penalties killed the momentum. The biggest blow to the offense is the three biggest receivers are playing defense and not enough offense. Second string receivers on a pass first offense is not cutting it. Brian Hubbard returns to the back field. Look for some strong yards from him. Brian & Doug will be a good back field combo. Look for Bonita to bounce back strong this week.
amat in a landslide hope damien plays close for sierra lg sake.
glendora in another close one!
baldwin park in a upset bonitia o has slowed down heggins d will step up!
rancho in a close one!
hmmm,
Not sure what you're after there. Those heights actually seem pretty accurate. If anything they are short changing Price and Seals. Most recruiting services list Seals at 6'1" after measuring him at camps/combines and Price towers over other DBs. Standing next to Daylon he is easily 4 inches taller - and McCutcheon played his pro career listed at 5'10"
It also list's Price at 6'2, Seals 6'0, Gaise 5'9and Gener 5'7 hmmmmm
What other "bench" players should have been starting the last 2 years. I give you coaching was slim but talent was slimmer....
Two years ago, 4 sophmores started on a team that had Austin, Fletcher, Stremple etc. Last year maybe 7 juniors started with only 1 sophmore starting (Johnson). This year again a 2 sophomores and a few juniors started, if you can't crack the lineup evaluate your own childs game.
FYI,
Amat lists McLanahan at 6'1"... just like he is. No inflation from them.

With all fairness...
Let it go, we heard all of that a thousand times. Also MCClanahan is not 6'3, AMAT inflates their height like most schools. Open and Fair......
Hummmmm, I remember Sept. 2005, the Damien Freshmen vs the Bishop Freshmen. It was a hard fought game and DAMIEN won it with heart and determination! These same boys are meeting again Friday night but they are seniors now.....I don't think I would dismiss Damien tooo much. I suspect the game will be alot closer than the blue and gold think!
I predict 34-10 Amat
I had Amat 38, WC 10 last week, this week I say BA 34, DHS 13.
Damien 24- Amat-21
Big Mac is 6'3"? He is playing well, but I did not know he grew two inches in the past week.

AMAT 24+
Enough Said
Oh the possiblities this year had Hagerty been there last year and Had McClanahan been given the Job as a sophmore. McClanahan was the better QB of the two last year and everyone knew it except the Coaching staff that played politics with not only Daddies QB but with lots of bench players that should have been starting.
Amat wins Big Friday over Damien. This is what happens when you have a Straight Shooter of a Head Coach. Hagerty went to McClanahan and this Junior has really been impressive. Lenhart you have to give props to, he remains focused has become a team player and is really helping the team in many areas. Good to see the maturity of Kid respond this way. Groomed to be a QB Lenhart will see action at QB eventually for Amat, I mean you almost have to in case of emergency duty. He will need game situation practice to stay fresh. His Parents may not like the switch but maybe they do with all the pressure surrounding being a Bishop Amat QB. It has been sometime, like maybe 10 years or so since Amat has had a true built up QB standing 6'3" like Jerry McClanahan. Amat has always been a running back type school and still appears to be right now but with this tall QB it has really opened up other options. Credit To Head Coach Hagerty for being open and Fair to all his players when it comes to playing time and winning a position.
