If only they played ...
There have been some intriguing games this year, like Bishop Amat taking on West Covina and Diamond Ranch, South Hills renewing its rivalry with Northview, but what others games should we see in the futre. Here are a few I would like to see.
Diamond Bar vs. Diamond Ranch -- This is interesting, I know that Diamond Ranch coach Roddy Layton wants to see it happen, but when I asked Diamond Bar coach John Martin about it earlier in the season, he started to answer, then said he better not. There's obviously something brewing here.
Bonita vs. Damien -- Shouldn't there be a battle between the big schools in La Verne? It would make sense. They're so close in proximity, and I'd imagine the games would be close over the years.
Charter Oak-South Hills -- I know they play in the same division. I know there's a good chance they can meet in the playoffs or the title game. But what a great game for the community. Bogan vs. Farrar every year. Who knows how long these two will keep coaching. Every chance we get to see them square off is a time capsule moment.
Baldwin Park-Sierra Vista - When two teams share the same community, they should play. Just like South Hills should take on Northview and Covina every year.
Bishop Amat vs. South Hills or Charter Oak -- We're probably running out of time. Coaches have said if you don't get the best of Amat this year, it might not happen as long as Steve Hagerty is there. Still, these are games everyone would love to see.

Comments
to just wondering:
until CO and AMAT play maybe they should be tied. i mean ranch cucamonga and etiwanda are pretty good football teams. maybe not o lu but close.
a lot could be discussed after CO d ranch this friday. but CO has a mental edge on d ranch theyve got their number. and farrer does not want d ranch to take their place a top the mira monte.
To Amat fans: it is nice to have a private school from our valley get back to battling the top programs again. We will have to see if this happens after the season ends. good start though.
only hope they schedule the top non conference teams, Oaks , corona cent, LB poly etc etc
Just be a little humble when talking smack on the public schools.

fred and co,
you all said blowout in the amat ranch game, wow a little off huh.
Ok Amat has a great atmosphere, but fred and co this game was no blowout, amat has solid QB with a pedigree expensive qb coach only to be found at a private school………
Truly and no one has said it but Dia Ranch was robbed!!!! 4th and 6 and they intercept ball and have it on Amat 40 with 6 minutes left, just after their 21 play drive. I just hate to see a ref call interference when on the slow mo replay ball and player got hit at same time and it was 5 yards short anyway. A great play. Home field advantage interference was called.. GAME OVER. NEXT PLAY AMAT SCORES. It is so sad to rip the heart out of young men on a call that A. he was short B. it clearly was not interference as said so by Mr. Jackson of fox sports west.. Maybe d ranch does not score but the game ends 10 to 6. it was a good game and kudos to both teams for playing on tv. Players of the game: amat #20 running back and receiver #8. D ranch #54 linebacker wow!!!!
TO RANDY:
diamond bar high should just figure out how to get more players from their 3,700 student body out for football instead of changing leagues and going to conferences with 2,000 kids high schools. Their middle schools dominate sports in the valley especially track. they have plenty of fast athletes they just do not get them to play football after middle school.
I agree that d ranch schedule has gotten them no where. the players can not relate to the losses. Do you hear this Layton or is it about getting on TV>>

Fred,
Great idea on games to be played, I like the CO AMAT especially since both schools gets lots players from all over the valley.
As for Dia Bar and D ranch , its kinda like West Covina and South Hills in terms of the players grow up playing all sports football, baseball, basketball and soccer together. The parents all know each other, and it would be a great event for the city of diamond bar. Problem is diamond bar high AD and principal do not want the game. They are happy with Walnut (which does not have the commonality of players only that they are the same school district). Whatever motives those two people have go against the wishes of their students and community. I hope they read this.
Maybe you could interview them and find out why.

Farmer John THAT WAS FUNNY.
As far as Johnsons go I got double clicked with GIRTH...what is GIRTH you may ask....ask your mom. She thought it reminded her of a beer can and that's why the family calls you "BUD".
LMAO
Posted by: Mr. ED | October 11, 2008 3:31 PM
And now for you Mr Ed,
What have I accomplished? Well bro, the list is long and distinguished, just like my johnson. Why as I "double check" I see your mom is even on the list. Listen here farm boy, the small animals on the ranch you shovel pig sh*t around in may be intimidated by you, but I ain't. I give it right back bro, now do everyone a favor and stay the hell away from the sheep during daylight hours, nobody wants to see you fornicating with the barnyard animals!!!! Bring it loser!

St. Tartar,
19 years ago huh genius? I wasn't that far off. Those kids playing on this years team weren't even born yet! My point exactly, it was an awfully long time ago yet you people rant and rave about Glendora football like your Concord De La Salle. STFU already!
The team is well coached, your kids do play well in the regular season, but come playoff time, the show is over. You are not a CIF champion,so don't come in here talking smack like your a 3-peater, your playoff credibility is friggin zilch. Good day to you sir!
Posted by: the tartar sauce smells worse 2day! | October 11, 2008 7:26 AM
Aztec Pride,
The only logical way of you beating Glendora is if our Starter bus breaks down and the 3rd stringers make it to the game. Have you not been to one of the Glendora Games? because ive been to 3 of Azusa's, since we are neighbors, I thought I'd go check you guys out after Glendora played you guys for a lil against passing league last summer. we flat out have better players then you. Theres no questions to be asked. I wonder why San Dimas denied Glendora with a contract this year, San Dimas is focusing their team on League Champs and going undefeated. I understand how you believe you have a great team, and thats good for you, but Glendora is better then Azusa. Yea it would fill the seats @ Citrus, but what would Glendora get from the game? Nothing, you guys are a way weaker team then us. Its the FLAT OUT TRUTH.
smells like rotten tartar sauce-
wow you must of skipped alot of math class, last i checked
2008-1989= 19 and that sure doesnt equal 30, but maybe you should go double check with a calculator.
Posted by: Saint Tartan | October 10, 2008 7:08 PM
rooteen sauce...what exactly have YOU ACCOMPLISHED??? that makes you an authority on anything other than talking out of the south end of a north bound horse's ass.
Posted by: Mr. Ed | October 10, 2008 2:52 PM
Glendora hasn't won a CIF championship in what 30 yrs? They get trounced in the playoffs like the notch above dog sh*t that they are! They get one whiff of a better team and out with the trash they go! THATS THE FLAT OUT TRUTH! They NEVER rise to meet the challenges of football in late Nov/early Dec. Someone prove me otherwise. Big F-ng Deal if they would whoop Azusa, they will be always be bridesmaids in football. Have a great month of Oct football, because your getting dumped again in Nov.
Posted by: smells like rotten tartar sauce | October 10, 2008 2:40 PM
Saint Tartan,
I was just using that as a metaphor. Bottom line is, the vincinity of your city and location determines which city can pay the best coaches to coach. Never say Never, on any given day, you can be beat!
SAINT TARTAN, can you please answer my question, on why Glendora is far superior then AZUSA? Is the water better there, or the food?LOL...
It just rubs me the wrong way on how you put it!"really no match"
WOW!
Posted by: AZTEC PRIDE | October 10, 2008 2:25 PM
Aztec Pride,
Are you serious about what you just said? Did i mention anythin about upper class vs lower class?
I mentioned Glendora vs Azusa! Do you really think your team can take control of Glendora's dominance to your team? I doubt it, it wont even be close. And as for the JAA Jr. Midget Team. Last Year Glendora Graduated 36 Seniors. I believe about 20 of them were from that Jr.Midget team and 6 of them were from the Glendora/Azusa Midget team. Do you remember that year? And didnt the Glendora Jr. Midget team go undefeated or something?
seriously dont let your Aztec Pride get in the way of the FLAT OUT TRUTH! But I do applaud you for having so much pride, but dont be dumb about this.
Posted by: Saint Tartan | October 10, 2008 12:38 PM
SAINT TARTAN,
Can you explained to me why GLENDORA is much better than AZUSA??? Is it because Glendorian people make much more MONEY than us? Your right the lower class people will never beat the upper class people.
Get out here!
Posted by: AZTEC PRIDE | October 10, 2008 12:27 PM
Glendora asked for a contract with San Dimas this year but it was turned down. They would of loved to bring that rivalry back.
And as for Azusa vs Glendora... Yes it would feel the stands, but then would empty the stands at halftime, because theres really no match between the two, Glendora would and will beat you guys flat out. But you are right it would be a fun game to go to, but not worth it to Glendora, to play a team that wont get GHS any better, just get them more cocky. Players say it all...
Posted by: Saint Tartan | October 10, 2008 11:18 AM
that was right after CO dropped Amat following two years of - well, you know. ask Co players how that went

Note to Sorry Fred:
Nice use of the word, "myopic." You must have been tuning into Jim Rome for a while and felt you should "lift" the word to critique a local writer. Way to prove your clone status.
News to you, the Tribune is a local paper. He was writing about local matchups. He never said that BA, or any team for that matter, could not schedule opponents for outside the area. He was talking about specific games to increase local interest.
Compare this to the college level. The media is the group that blows the USC - Ohio State game out of proportion. The students and die-hard fans like to see USC play UCLA and OSU play Michigan. Albeit, they are in the same conference, so it may be a mute point...if they were not, there would be thousands of disappointed and disgruntled fans.
High school sports are about community and each team gets five non-league games. Think before you ripa guy trying to build local interest.

The IS the first year Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista AREN'T playing one another. Sierra Vista has taken such bad beatings they refuse to play BP anymore. Too bad. The community and students all enjoy it. Sierra Vista coaches, I guess, do not.
Posted by: Bpteach | October 9, 2008 8:50 PM
1. South Hills does not hate West Covina in any sport. I can't say the same thing for West Co. You would have to ask them. The players just get up for the game because of the hype the Trib puts out.
2. The rivalry with Northview and Covina is gone. Each of the CVUSD schools don't have a memory of playing against each other. It's too bad the CHS and NVS principals took the games away years ago.
3. Charter Oak and South Hills are on a one year hiatus in all sports and all levels, due to "politics". It has even filtered down to softball, the sport I coach. The principals couldn't agree to play against each other even though each school was the number one rep from their respective league, so everything started rolling down hill. It's too bad in my opinion.

AZUSA AGAINST GLENDORA! I know this would fill the stadium seats at Citrus College. Four years ago AZUSA RAIDERS JR. Midgets, played the Tartans, and that was a great game! Glendora won 21-20! Most of those kids are now Seniors.
I would like to see how AZUSA would measure up with a higher division school, since were neighbors.

I remember watching souht hills play esperaanza down to the wire in 05-06 season. Bring back that classic. and both teams played in the finals that year. and SH won it!

Maybe I've been away for awhile but last I remember coach Zernickow had kicked Kyle Withem off of the San Dimas football team and was wishing him well in the future. How did kyle get reinstated and who had to pull the strings? A little pressure from the boosters or what?
Posted by: bpbrave | October 9, 2008 4:43 AM
Northview - Gladstone - they are so close to one another. They should play each other. Though Northview would dismantle them this year.
Posted by: Henry | October 9, 2008 12:44 AM
wtf r u talking bout CO vs SD .. if san dimas could bearly beat los altos why would u think the could stand a chance against charter oak who is playing almost as good as amat(my spource is both of them beating damien by almost the same score) ...
Posted by: wtf ?? | October 8, 2008 11:32 PM
DB vs DR?,...we'd all like to see it....this senior laden DBHS team had the best chance ever against them, next we will be full of 1st yr varsity players,....its not like DB is trying to duck out, hell they scheduled CO and West Cov this year, and play 2 very emotional games against Brea and Walnut every year.....throw in Troy who has consistenly put out and damn good product over the last 10 yrs and you can shut down the claims from the D-ranch crowd that we dont play anyone,...what has D-Ranch's "toughest non league schedule in the nation" gotten them so far????????????....uh, thats right....nothing.....a second round playoff appearance where EL DO showed em then door??? Wow, i'm impressed....
I do think DR or CO should bump up into the Sierra, and have DB put into the San Antonio or Miramonte leagues....i think it'd be a good fit for everyone.....an so for the record fred, i think DB should have played DR this year too.......

breaking news,
There's a world of difference between the nation and the valley. Most of us with common sense never asked for a ratings change. We knew if we deserved it, it would come to us eventually.
Posted by: Bleeds Blue and Gold | October 8, 2008 9:57 PM
its refreshing to hear some amat fans that are realist
go back to the threads where you guys where #2 in the valley if you wanna see some of the posts i was refering to
Posted by: breaking news | October 8, 2008 6:23 PM
Although South Hills High School is in the same school district as Northview and Covina High Schools they are located in the city of West Covina. Thats why West Covina and South Hills hate each other. They play little league and junior all american together then they go to high school and become rivals. Now are there any city high schools that hate each other in the SGV example Baldwin Park and Covina or is it just the schools.
Posted by: west co | October 8, 2008 4:04 PM
breaking news,
First of all you are the one saying crown AMAT the best in the nation not us. We are not even the best in our league let alone the nation and there are some opinions that we are not even the best in the SGV. Second what are you referencing to when you write "the way you guys present yourselves."
Posted by: AMAT 73 | October 8, 2008 3:50 PM
how exactly do Amat guys "present" themselves that offends you? specifics or examples, please.
Posted by: reality czech | October 8, 2008 3:01 PM
there was a bit of sarcasam in my post no doubt but the way you guys (amat) present yourself makes me wanna cheer aginst you rather then for you
Posted by: breaking news | October 8, 2008 2:44 PM
incest,
What makes you think those schools you listed would schedule those teams when the won't even schedule AMAT. Granted it would be nice to see but it is not going to happen. One other thing is how did LA fall so fast out of the elite catagory as to not even being mention on this thread. Hey maybe LA vs LP , from reading the posts by the LA faithful that seems to be an even match up. They could play for the right to change the letters on the hill.
Posted by: AMAT 73 | October 8, 2008 2:29 PM
Bonita is not that big of a deal for us, we rather play CO and Glendora when it comes to local teams. We have bigger thing to worry about right now, like a new Head coach. One who can win, and head our program in the right direction. Talent alone does not win, perfect example is Bishop Amat. Look at the turn-around they made in one year, you can see the difference good coaching makes in high school football.

CHARTER OAK CHARGERS VS. SAN DIMAS SAINTS!!
LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN...BOTH ARE RATED FAIRLY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER IN MAX PREPS, CALPREPS, CIF.
THIS YEAR LIKE NO OTHER...
2 DAYS TILL "SMUDGEPOT"
GO SAINTS..GO KYLE!!
Posted by: SaintsR4real | October 8, 2008 1:34 PM
Fred why oh why do you encourage this kind of myopic thinking. NO ONE DOES IT BUT THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY''S BEST! You do know LA is a BIG CITY right?
Play each other? Are you serious? Come on Fred I think you're a great guy but like the Finance Mamager @ WAMU that wanted me to invest my money..to keep his job...this is nothing more than you wanting, I mean thinking, that this will increase circulation and...like the FM keep his job.
What happend to expanding your horizons. Isn't that the myopic problem of bloggers? Amat challenging CO, LA, DHS, SH? When the real battle for them and everyone else is in OC and the IE? That's like Mike Tyson calling out Pernell Whittaker. NO CONTEST....except for Pernell. What doe she have to lose but his life????
Come on.
South HIlls vs. LB POLY...that's a game!
Charter Oaks vs. St. Bonaventure. ...that's a game.
Glendora vs. Mater Dei...that's a game.
Come on Fred. Every time I see that Finaance Manager I ask him ..."Hey Mark...how MUCH WOULD I HAVE LOST BY NOW???"
Last time I checked WAMU stock was down 92%....come on Fred ask the coaches and readers to expect more of themselves tahn a picnic that's suppose to be a high school game!
You're beginning to DRINK THE KOOL AID MY FRIEND.
Posted by: Sorry Fred but incest is illegal. | October 8, 2008 1:07 PM
Good subject Fred.
I for one would rather see C O play Glendora than the Huskies especially now that S H and the Chargers are in the same division.
The Bonita-Damien, Baldwin Park-Sierra Vista and DRHS-DBHS games should all be inked. As a matter of fact, there ought to be some kind of a mandate that schools from the same cities play each other. ;{)
Amat? I'd really prefer to see the Lancers play only teams from the Inland or Pac-5 D's, (along with the obligatory St. Paul game, of course). OK, OK, OK, maybe ONE local game with another top SGV school, but that's it. The last thing I want is to see Bishop Amat as the Valley's trained bear, playing their pre-season through a bunch of smaller program's GOTY.

breaking news,
I agree with JA here...
You must be new to the blog! Amat fans are a vocal bunch, but they (at least the legit fans) don't go around thumping their chest following a win. The fact is this... right now Amat is the best team in the San Gabriel Valley - period! We can make a case for Charter Oak, South Hills, or San Dimas perhaps... but Amat plays the tuffest schedule and until they loose another game or two, they get to be #1. No one should get a$$ hurt over it! They deserve it and until CO, SH, or someone else plays tuffer teams and wins, too bad! Having said that... if Amat gets in league and starts getting clocked (which I think they might)... the rankings will respond accordingly and I would expect Charter Oak to move up... We'll see... but don't hate Amat for doing well... Hope for the others to do better!
Posted by: Just Wondering | October 8, 2008 12:54 PM
Fred,
I agree with you. I've lived in the SGV for some time now, and every season there are at least 4 or 5 games I find myself wishing for! Amat - CO would be great this year! It would set the blog on its collective ear regardless of the winner! Oh well... we'll never really know the following things:
1.) Whose better, Amat or CO?
2.) Are Azusa, San Dimas, and South Hills really as good as advertised?
3.) Which is the best Diamond Bar team - DBHS or DRHS?
Every season we're (SGV Prep fans) left with burning questions like these...

breaking news,
The truth is that NO ONE has come on this blog and said anything about " THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION", or for that matter the best team in CIF, the Pac-5, or our league. I challenge you to find ONE post ANYWHERE that says ANY of the above.
The discussions, and this papers ranking, refer to how the team compares with the other teams in *this newspapers circulation area*. Even if your scenario presents itself (and it could very easily be true) that still doesn't change ANYTHING regarding that particular discussion. OLU very easily could be 6-4/7-3 which means their other losses may be to some of the best teams in CIF. Amat could sneak into the playoffs and get matched up with Long Beach Poly (the #2 team in the NATION).
Would any of that change how they compare to any of the 33 schools in our little fishbowl?
Posted by: Joe Amat | October 8, 2008 12:43 PM
BEFORE WE CROWN BISHOP AMAT THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION LETS MAKE SURE THAT THEY...
A- MAKE THE PLAYOFFS
B- WIN A GAME IN THE PLAYOFFS
THERE GOOD BUT WHAT HAPPENDS IF ORANGE LUTHERAN ENDS UP 6-4 OR 7-3 AND GETS KNOCKED OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND AND AMAT IS 1 AND DONE IN THE PLAYOFFS
THATS A VERY POSSIBLE SCENARIO
I THINK THE AMAT FOOTBALL PLAYERS ARE GREAT AND I ENJOY THERE TRADITION BUT THERE BLOGGERS KILL ME
