Have to say the BA-Loyola was the most boring high school football game I have been at in a long time. Amat could do nothing offensively- what about some long bombs to your open players down the field. Or maybe your QB can't do that. Can't say much more for Loyola though even though they came away with the win. Handoffs or slant passes to Anthony Barr all night. He obviously is carrying their whole team. Stop him and you get the win.

Rio's dad is high maintanence...he thinks his kid is far better than kids his own age...wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so vocal about it. He can be heard yelling in another town that Rio's pass no matter how on or off it was should have been caught. The reality is....the kid is GOOD, not as perfect as his Dad thinks he is but Good. BUT, there ARE kids his age that can HANG with him....he isn't the only great one.....his team is loaded with good players that make him look good too...

AvL,
Is that the best you have or are you just one of those p/o'd parents becuase your kid couldn't cut it playing for either squad? It's been months since we've read that trash.

Tell you what, DON'T come to our games if you don't like the crowd or else we just might initiate you into our "gang". Your kids team hss already been intiated by both schools, why not you?

Amat V Loyola

Here it comes again. You know, the discussion about neighborhoods.

Why is it that the folks who don't like Amat, allways bang on La Puente, when the team they use as a bench mark is in a similar neighborhood ?

I am going to split hairs here just for the sake of this argument ok.

But you realize of course that Amat "really" is'nt in the city of La Puente right ?

They are in fact, in an unincorporated area of LA County which borders the city of LA Puente.

Look it up in the Thomas guide map if you dont believe me.

There they have all the citys in LA county highlighted according to the communities that they belong to.

People might use La Puente (even the Amat administration) as the point of refereance on an adress label, but the fact is that, they are not an "official" part of that city.

So, the next time some idiot comes in here using that same old tired argument, tell him to look it up in the Thomas Guide ok.

Amat v Loyola said:

I have seen both home crowds and have to say as someone who has a son who has played against both teams, that Loyola's fans have much more class than do the Raider-Tijuana type Amat fans who drink and tailgate before games. You don't feel like you at a gang initiation when you're at a Loyola game, but I guess if you're in La Puente, its just par for the course.

Loyola Cubs Guy...

It's always been an honor competing with your program as both of our alma maters know what it's like to play against the best year after year.

I shall pray for both teams in that they avoid injury and play a good, clean, and fun football game.

Loyola vs. Amat!!!

The finest of programs are about to compete at the highest level!

God's speed to both the Cubs and Lancers!!!

Thanks Amat 73 We will rehash this thing Monday. Win or lose I will come on here and give my spin even tho this blog is so One sided towards Amat, except for the other teams in your area that think they can compare themself to Amat and the Serra league. Go Cubs!. Were brothers but just not Sat. we are coming to knock heads. It is all good Lancers and Lancer fans

AMAT 73 said:

Cubs Fan,
i pick AMAT in every game we play as I am quite sure you do for Loyola. Should be a very close game . I will go with Cal Preps as they are more in tune with HS football then the experts at the Times. But either way here's wishing you and your Cubs good luck tonight and let's hope for a great and injury free game. GO LANCERS

Cubs Fan said:

Amat 73 everyone including yourself picked O-luth over Amat. You just wanted to hang close with that OL team and you beat them..Nice Job. The Times has Amat Ranked 10 where as Loyola is not ranked at all. Who is the underdog here.? Cal Preps has Amat winning 31-28. The Times has Loyola winning. Someone is wrong here, but what it says to me and all of us, close game, too close to call. It can go either way but my Cubs will come thru finally. This is the year we beat Amat, this losing streak ends tomorrow. Good luck the rest of the way with ND and the Celts.

jcaz said:

Ok ok, I did'nt mean to make it into a "hate Rios dad blog."

It was just an observation about the kid thats all.

But for what it's worth the first blogger got it right whn he took me to task, in that the kid is still just a freshamn.

It's true that he still has a long way to go to improve his game, but every day when he goes out on the field, he makes himself better, thats all.

Rios will be someone special very very soon for Amat no doubt.

Grease the Monkey said:

Now why would an AD say that about Rios Dad? If he was doing his job right he wouldn't let any parent enhance or his kid's playing time or shoe horn multiple positions, of course, not if he wasn't getting his free Laker front row seats from Daddy.

reality czech said:

FB-either of the Amat AD's are not worth the paper this blog is written on, so anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt. one's as dumb as a rock and the other is as lazy as one. you decide which is which.
Rios' dad is actually a really good guy who knows just enough about FB/BB to be a thorn in anyones side that isn't doing their job. do the right thing and everything will be just fine.

FB said:

I talked to one of the AD's at BA, they told me Rios's dad is a pain in the a@@, high high maintanence. They aren't going to put up with his crap, he isn't that good.

jcaz said:

Mr. "Question" errr Rios dad.

Ok, I got it. I was just making an observation that's all. No need to (as 73 once said), get you're "chonies" all in a bundle here, just lighen a bit there up big guy :)

Cub fan

Boy im glad you're back. I have been wondering about you in here.

For what it's worth, you're always welcome here to talk the talk about you're cubs, because as I once said about you in here, "at least we know where you're coming from and who it is that you're rooting for," unlike the "drive-by" smackers.

Good luck cub fan because with you're QB, and running back hurt, it might be a very long night for you guys at Glendale High.

BTW, just wondering here. You don't think that maybe, just maybe, these guys really are'nt hurt ?

Maybe it's another example of the same thing that went on during the Celtic-Laker series where Pierce goes down only to make a "miraculas" recovery (just in time to help out the team) eh ?

Just wondering here that's all.

Could be intersting here. Stay tuned.

cubs fan,
About the Times picking Loyola tonight. They also picked O Lu over AMAT. You know how that one turned out.

Question said:

Does it matter if it rains tomorrow if we are playing on turf?

That guy or girl jcaz is unbelievably stupid. Look at his Captain Obvious statements.

He talks about how Rios needs to work on his consistency. No Crap! the kids a freshman. He probably hasn't shaved yet either. Shouldn't he work on that too?

jcaz states that rios plays way too many positions and they should let others play. Only two guys play both sides. They also have Saturday games for those that don't play Thursday. Leave the 10 plays a game stuff to the Pop Warners. It's Bishop Amat High School football now.

And there are other kids that play those positions. They are probably not better than Rios. It's Serra league time now.

Lancer02 said:

I love being the underdogs. More reason to prove the critics wrong. QB questionable, Barr coming back from a hip injury....hmmmm. Let's figure out a game plan to exploit that huh?

Cubs Fan said:

Hey I was in here mid season looking forward to tomorrows game. It is always a game when our teams see each other. You guys have had our number for some time now and have beaten us in your down years as well. Your team has a great record coming in and your best move was getting a solid coach, he has really turned you guys around. Hope we get you this year ,we have a good team, no excuses, we are coming to play. We will settle and end the drought tomorrow. Sorry Lancers this one is ours this year. Payback time. Good luck to you guys I know it will be a battle. Cubs 28 Lancers 20

AMAT 73 said:

cubs fan ,
Rain or shine it does not matter to us because remeber as AMAT we always SHINE. As a matter of fact we want it clear and dry so you won't be able to use that excuse if you happen to lose the game. Looking foward to a great game and hopefully your QB is well enough to play also. As Joe said earlier you guys have been very quiet this year as opposed to the past 2 years. What has happened to all your fellow posters .

This from the LA TIMES look whom they picked to win the game. DA CUBS!

No. 10 La Puente Bishop Amat (6-1, 0-0) vs. Los Angeles Loyola (4-3, 0-0)

Saturday at Glendale High, 7

Loyola standout running back Anthony Barr is expected to return after being sidelined by a hip pointer last week in the first quarter of the Cubs' 21-16 loss to Mission Hills Alemany. But quarterback Stephen Rokus is questionable after being hit in the back with a helmet against the Indians. Loyola Coach Jeff Kearin said the loss to Alemany on the eve of the Cubs' Serra League opener "kind of calls everything into question. It was a big letdown on a lot of different levels." Bishop Amat, led by running back Deshawn Gaisie and UCLA-bound defensive back Sheldon Price and linebacker Isaiah Bowens, has won six consecutive games.

The pick: Loyola.

Joe Amat said:

Cub Fan,

We miss your yearly visit. You've been a little quiet over here lately. I remember a flurry of posts in the preseason...where have you been?

If you've been reading you'd realize that everyone hopes Barr plays. You want to play the best. And unless they've figured something out - BOTH teams have to run on the same turf. If it slows one team down - it also slows the other team down.

Barr's injured... it's raining...you're not laying the groundwork for any excuses now - are you? Cubs don't do that - do they?

It should be a great game.

Cubs Fan said:

Lancer fans you better hope it pours tomorrow because that is the only thing that may slow Anthony Barr down. Yes he is back and has been practicing. Did you think he would miss the first game of league or were you guys wishing. Good luck tomorrow reguardless.

Notes on Amat

Just some random thoughts I wanted to share with the faithfull.

Today I saw the freshman game against Loyola and I came away with a few impressions.

Number one, I think that the kid Rios is without a doubt, going to be a very special player for Amat one day. This is about the 4th time I have seen the team play.

The only thing that gets me about Rios however, is that he really needs to work on his consistancy.

For example, at one instance, he could overthrow his recievers or just throw the ball away, On the next play, he would throw a 50 yard strike to set up a TD.

Also, in the game today, Rios played almost every positin that you could imagine. He played defensive back (got a key interception) field goal kicker, and of course quarteback.

Way to many positions to play for the kid I thought.

I mean, I know he is a very talented young man, and to tell you the truth, he excelled, to some degree in his play outside of the QB slot.

But to tell you the truth, there has to be other kids on that team that can play some of the other postions also. Give the other kids a chance to play too.

Second, I noticed that the Varsity players watched the game today. Good call I thought. Maybe they picked up something about Loyola in this game.

BTW, I want to say that I saw Bownes and (I think) Price) being interviewed for TV or some media outlet during the course of the game. Wonder what was being said.

Anyway, I hope that the coaching staff goes to the Crespi, Notre Dame game on Friday to scout those guys. In a way, it's a blessing that they have this Friday off. Never to early to start checking out you're oposition eh.

Last thing. Boy ! you can really tell that it's sports fever time, because today I saw the girls softball team and, I believe the boys Soccer team practacing out on the field next to Orange Ave.

Soon, it will be the other sports time to shine at Amat
