Smudge Pot and Pizza .... Nice

| | Comments (17) |

The annual Smudge Pot between rivals Bonita and San Dimas takes place next week at Bonita, but the festivities kick off on Friday at Warehouse Pizza in La Verne, where five players from each team will go at it in a Pizza eating contest at 3 p.m. This is the first time the two schools have ever agreed to it, with San Dimas coach Bill Zernickow saying the eating contest switches to Michaelangelos next year. But here's where it gets warm and fuzzy. The five players selected from each team are the top five pledge earners, with proceeds from this contest going to The Special Operation Warriors Foundation, which is a program benefiting all surviving children whose parent died as a result of an operational mission or training accident while assigned to a U. S. Special Operations Command unit. Pizza and a good cause? It doesn't get any better than that. It's open to everyone, so head down there and drop a few bucks for the cause.

Good job Sand Dimas you could stuff your face full of pizza, but who disgraced you in the ACTUAL cause? The fundraiser? Wait one kid raised 600 bucks by himself? What?

That is a great picture of Steve Ramirez above!!

Sorry QB lover, the Saints won the pizza eating and the Bonita high kids couldn't handle their own pizza joint. THey puked in the provided buckets and got run out of their own neighborhood. Get the facts straight.

Go Saints! It's time we retake the smude pot. Also, great event for charity. Love Warehouse Pizza.

Nice picture of Coach Koff stuffing his face. Are all the coaches going to do it?

Isn't the floor always mine? Is it time for my fillibuster?

The warehouse has very good pizza. I would recommend people head over there for some good grub and no I don't get a commission for saying so.

Sounds like its for a great cause. I am all for it. I only have one question. How can you have an eating contest without Aram? baa haa

This is truly an impressive thing for both schools and players to be doing!

WOW, a week before the game, great way to start the excitment leading up to next Friday.

Proud of both programs and hopefully they earn BIG BUCKS for the kids...

I wanna commend both teams for doing something fantastic for such a worthy cause. Kudos to whoever organized such a great event.

This is the picture of perfect for SGV football! Both coaches and teams should be so proud to participate in this. I'm familiar with the SOWF and the work they do! It is as good a cause and there is on the planet and I wish all the "eaters" great success! Rock on Saints and Bear Cats!

By the way... Saints by 21 or more :-)

Nice to see teams coming together for a great cause-especially rivals. Sometimes football can bring out the best in all of us.

Props to BoHi, San Dimas, Podley and Zernickow.

Cool event for a great cause. I like the "home and home" restaurants.

And a great way to bring more attention to the matchup and increase interest.
