Saturday Morning Quarterback: San Dimas wins Smudge; South Hills slips past Rosemead; Bishop Amat, West Covina, Rowland, and Charter Oak win

Friday's results
San Dimas 50, Bonita 33 -- Don't tell me the Saints can't play with the big boys, not after watching Nico Barbone rush for 201 yards and five touchdowns, and Daniel Joseph rush for 219 yards and two touchdowns. They rushed for 454 yards in all. Damn, that's impressive.
Bishop Amat 17, Diamond Ranch 6-- It would be easy to talk about the Lancers again, but what does this say about Diamond Ranch? I know they're 1-4, but they hung when West Covina and Damien couldn't. Next week, Charter Oak.
South Hills 14, Rosemead 10 -- Huskies trailed 10-7 at half. My cousin Mike was at the game and said he thought the Panthers outplayed them. Then again, he grew up Rosemead. Sumler, though, is the real deal, finishing with 138 yards on 27 carries. Deen got sacked four times.
Charter Oak 35, Etiwanda 32 -- Add this to the list of big-time wins for the Chargers. When you play Rancho Cucamonga and Etiwanda on the road and come home without losses, that's saying something.
La Serna 21, Los Altos 6 -- The rest of the schedule doesn't look good for the Conq's, who could be 0-9 by the time they meet rival Wilson at the end of the year.
Walnut 47, Sonora 13 -- Is this impressive or what? Leonard Rhodes ran for four or five touchdowns as the Mustangs improved to 4-1.
West Covina 35, Diamond Bar 25 -- This was close for most of the game. We knew the Brahmas were improved, just not improved enough.
South El Monte 35, Alhambra 7 -- I wonder what the coaches said during the week to inspire this Eagles defense. Finally, a great job on both sides of the ball.
Azusa 36, Sierra Vista 3-- Obviously the Aztecs are serious about winning the Montview League title. Mark Oct. 24th down, that's when they face Duarte.
Northview 40, Nogales 7 -- Not a surprise, the Vikings' only losses have come against two good teams.
Duarte 34, Gladstone 16 -- A much closer game than I expected. But then again, these two don't like each other very much, so it shouldn't be a huge surprise it was competitive.
Workman 20, La Puente 14-- I keep talking about Azusa and Duarte, but what about the Lobos. They quietly continue to win, improving to 2-0 in Montview.
Rowland 21, Baldwin Park 0 -- The Braves were down to their fourth-string quarterback, so an easy and expected win for the Raiders.
La Canada 28, Arroyo 0 -- Something's wrong in Arroyoland when you start getting shutout by La Canada.
Saturday's game and prediction
Brethren Christian vs. Western Christian at Citrus -- Robledoo (WC); Ramirez (WC)

Bishop Amat's Darien Johnson going for an interception.

Here we go again. It's not enough that we are winning now but because we did not blow out DR the doubts start coming in.I personally don't care if we beat all of our opponents in league or the rest of the preseason games each by 1 point they will still be wins. As for the DR game we won and our defense played great. The offense did show signs that they had been off 2 weeks but that was to be expected . Now for DR I give them all the respect in the world. They came ready to play and were well prepared. As far as I am concerned they should be further up in the rankings but that's another issue. You could tell the diffence between them and the other 2 teams we played from the SGV. DR projected the feeling they could hang with us and did while the other opponents knew they were in over their heads and it showed.
King Stud
The race is over and Mccain is getting rocked by the economy.
Deal with it, there a new King Stud going to the white house and its not your old boy McCain
St Francis may have a good record this time arround, but if Amat does not win the game going away, then they will surly have allot of problems in league this year.
Let's look at the fact's here. Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola are teams (this year) that are head and shoulders above most of the schools in St Francis' league.
In fact, just to show you what I mean, look at what Loyola did to Hart last Saturday night.
Loyola absolutly distroyed Hart, and Hart is always a very tough foothill league team.
So if Amat can't win easily against a St Francis team that has a better record than what the true reflection of it's strength is, then yes, I will come away very much worried come league play.
hey corona are you the democrat donk supporting obama? man i hope not. btw did the local car wash get all that crap off your car put in there by someone at the Damien game? lol
And to the moron telling me to stop blogging you can kiss my a$$. if you dont like it dont read it.
Joe
why do you agree with corona? come on you seem smarter than that. You have to admit joe that your amat boys played down to the ranch. Barring that PI amat might have been in a world of hurt. Gaise seems like a good player but Amat is going to have to step its game up this week and the rest of the season to hang with the big boys.
With Out Josh Yu, and Steven Garcia. Mat Morales and the Walnut Waterpolo team step it up. Beating Sonora. 18 to 16. In OT. Great game
Casablanca Joe..... Casablanca!
Must be fun this year for you.....finally.
Maybe some day I'll enjoy the same kind of satisfaction here.
Enjoy the season my friend.
My Friend,
We are agreeing. Starting to get scary - isn't it? And I'll take a 97.5% anytime... that's an "A" on anybodies scale - and you were far more correct than the 50% you gave yourself credit for. I'll repost a couple of statements that are right in step with what you just wrote... percentages aside :?)
"...*DR kept fighting* and the Lancers allowed them to hang around.....
"...They coulda thought "Here we go again". But that didn't happen and DR was tough...."
and
"...To say that Amat took DR lightly would be to discredit the great effort and preparation on the Panthers part...."
Anyone predicting a blowout was either wishful thinking, buying into hype, or hadn't spent much time watching DR play. They are good. I hope the scheduling gamble pays off. As I've said - their pre-season schedule is tougher *for them* than ours is *for us*. Good luck to them.
And I hope we're sharper against St Francis... they're pretty darn good too!
Enjoy the desert.
CO Bro..
"truly grown adult and success stories wouldn't waste their time on this blog"
.....would that include you?
ouch.
I can live with that. Seems pretty good on 95% of your logic and points. Reminds me of the car wash. Every time I get my car washed and waxwd I fill up the car AFTER. Why? To wipe off the dripping water that's in the seams. Still the guys tell me they'll fill it up. I did that once and when I got home the car looked like a streak machine, So let's deal with the streaks.
Joe IF it wasn't Amat and say Mater Dei. And a 1-4 Damien team played the Monarchs to a 4 point game with 5:38 left in the game wouldn't we be calling that a great effort and not allude to anyone's (both teams) rust?
Now imagine that team NOT being D2 Damien and INSTEAD 1-3 Los Altos. Same call?
Amat plays a 1-3 D5 school and gets banged on harder than some other local yocals and somehow that 5% becomes suspect. Amat no more let DR hang around than I have a full head of hair. DR STUCK around. If the INT is allowed to stand and DR with momentum shifting wins the game. What would anyone have said? Amat blew it.
NO arguing your well based points Joe but when Buster Douglass beat Mike Tyson...Mike Tyson put Buster down...only to get knocked out after Buster "benefitted" from a long count. (I'll give Tyson some love) Buster still had to finish the job.
In this game. DR refused to get blown out...ON THE SCOREBOARD..bend but don't break so to speak.
But Amat put them away like Tyson couldn't. Also to carry the Buster point further...Buster got punked by Evander in his next fight...still doesn't diminish Buster's night. So whatever happens with CO will not take away from DR nor prove an OFF NIGHT by Amat.
Make no mistake. Amat came to crush and win. They did half the job. St. Francis will really pay the price for DR's Buster like performance.
But I really do see that if I'm half right you're still 97.5 % right,,,and no one's perfect. Joey knowing the ref's by their first name...wow. I'm freakin impressed. ;-)
Enjoyed your analysis.
Best of luck my friend. I'm off to see Arizona colleges so no games for me this week.
WOW - SOTO WHO? I guess you weren't a player, knew how to be a teammate or know anything about CO Football. Jealousy rears it's ugly head once again..... Hey I would bet that the 90% would be good not bad and once again, only the squeekers are heard the loudest. Best part is that truly grown adults and successful stories from CO football....wouldn't waste their time in a blog.
Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda - DID.
I still think that's what this "Post-Game" entry should be called. So lets talk about some of those.
My Friend, 72, The Shining, KS and others,
As was mentioned by someone earlier - I didn't ever feel that, even though the score was close, the game was in question. It was clear who was in control. I kind of had the same feeling after the 1st quarter in the Coliseum on Saturday at the 'SC/AzSt game (went with an associate -bad tickets... felt like me and the blimp, but what the heck... GREAT day for football)
So USC didn't put many points on the board after the initial flurry - but it was obvious who controlled the game throughout. Same kind of Friday night feeling.
But I digress. To say that Amat took DR lightly would be to discredit the great effort and preparation on the Panthers part. I do think that it was a hard fought, emotional, and competitive game (as My Friend said) that took place between two pretty good teams in their divisions - that happened to come after BOTH teams had two weeks off. I think that led to the somewhat "out of sync" play that occurred on both sides (as KS mentioned).
High Intensity and a long layoff is not a great recipe for a "well-played" game. Watching the TiVo on Sunday AM, Hags even alluded to that in the locker room when he sayed the guys looked like they were ready "to pop" and tried to get them to relax. On the other side DR's offense sputtered at best, save for the 1 great drive in the 3rd quarter. Take away that ONE drive and DR had UNDER SIXTY yds of total offense. Amat missed opportunities because of penalties - negating several big plays that could have put the game away. Some of those were a result of DR being pretty darn good!
Officials! Wow. They are bad on Sundays, worse on Saturdays and absolutely awful on Fridays. A couple of those penalties (on both sides) came out of the blue - but the pass interference was right on after seeing the replay. The receiver was clearly hit before the ball got there. Not even close. But in all honesty Gordon (the old guy that was the head official) tried to talk the young guys into the PI - he lost that one! IMO he was the worst of the bunch and pulled a couple flags outta his @$$... but that's just me. The PI was like one of those "bang-bang" plays at first in baseball when you say "there's NO WAY he was out" only to see the replay when the umpire got it absolutely right. I AM amazed at how often baseball umpires get that one right. As opposed to the strike zone (did you see the plate ump at the Dodger game? My gosh - AWFUL!)
I did happen to also see a couple of those penalties mentioned that were "out of desperation" when getting beat. Those DR guys are good - as those who came on here said - no surprises for sure. And I also saw some that were a result of being slow off the ball and not sharp from the layoff. It's not just the time off - it's not being in full pads , allowed to hit, and remain competitive during the first week of that time. Layoffs tend to hurt the parts of the game that require schemes, execution, timing, etc far more than the parts of the game that require intensity and effort
(read **defense has the advantage in this one**
DR kept fighting and the Lancers allowed them to hang around. It is just as possible that a score or two breaks a teams will - especially a team that has played a great schedule, played well - yet still came up on the short end of the scoreboard in some previous games. They coulda thought "Here we go again". But that didn't happen and DR was tough. Props to them - I hope (I'm pretty sure) that Layton keeps them focused and positive getting them ready for league at 1-4. They are definitely ready... if the kids believe they are.
And sgvfootballfan-*Choosing* to attend a school in the 9th grade is a different issue than a transfer. CIF allows any 9th grader to attend any school (public or private) and have immediate residential eligibility. *Transfers* are those who go to one school then *leave* to go somewhere else and eligibility is restricted until certain conditions are met. But DR now knows about that.
You are right - MANY players from that area have chosen to come to Amat in the past... and that trend slowed for a bit as the program was perceived to have struggled. That is changing and actually I look for the Lancers to continue to get more and more players from that region in the future, especially if they take care of business against the Panthers next year.
SGVfootballfan,
Tell me that after CO takes you to the woodshed and cracks your so called talented team Diamond Ranch. Watched the game on Fox and Amat looked off their game. Dranch has no passing game. You will be in for a long nite come Friday. Go CO Chargers!
How about the crowds that BOOed Mc Cain for trying to reign in the lynching mob, i mean political supporters, after he said..."This campaign will be run with integrity." BOOOOOOOs "Barack is good man who loves his country." LODER BOOOOOs. "He is a good Chritian man" LOUSEDET BOOOOOs...."now now now....we will run and AGRESSIVE CAMPAIGN" loud cheers!!!!

Somewhere the screams of Selma are ringing loud and clear. Where is George Wallace when you need him? Bring the German Shepards...they is trying to get the WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!
Who can't trust Guliani?
Answer: his wife!
Who has moral authority on these matters of judgment?
Answer: his mistress. Who Rudy moved into the Governor's Mansion while he was still married. Nice.
I'll stick to someone who isn't a sleaze ball.
Cali Dump...isn't that the same thing that can be said of the Republican led Congress for the last 20 years? Remember the Contract with America.
Did anyone go to college here? Oh that's right the new in vogue thing is to MOCK education. NOW THAT'S STUPID!

Mc Cain sold his soul.
get real panthers
The only transfers are all the kids going to BA.Bonilla and Sermons grew up and always lived in Diamond Bar. Many great players over the years that that have played for BA have come from Diamond Bar.But if they want to come back home and play then their Transfers.I don't think so.BA get used to kids from Diamond Bar staying at Home and playing football with their friends and getting a good education at a California distinguished school.Diamond Ranch Panthers.
Guilani said it best when he said " What has Obama ever led?" The answer NOT A DAMN THING. His only experience in internation affairs is one time when he took his family to breakfast at the international house of pancakes!
SPECIFIC
Posting Obamas resume here isn't possible and you can't get to much more specific than that.
California is a fine example of why not to vote Democrat.
The state is broke and you cant blame Republicans for that fiasco. The Dem's have run this dump for mor than Twenty years. The voters here are so stupid their dear Arnold gave them the propositions to clean this mess up and what do the idiot voters do side with big unions and lobbyist in Sacramento and voted them all down.
California is a dump led by Democrat voters who dont know any better.
Ozzie the Political Scientist!
Is that too professorial for you?
Specific half truths, lies and assertions.
S.P.E.C.I.F.I.C.
Did you even go to college?
Everytime I see these Obamites yepping and hollering over nothing becaue he will have no money to dish out his hand outs it reminds me of the Wizard of Oz and the midget army that guarded the wicked witches castle.

YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH
YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH
YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH
thanks 72 fan. i haven't seen co play, therefore, i don't have a prediction. i now know that dr is a good, physical team that has played other good, physical teams. sounds like co is good as well with several really good athletes. it's going to be interesting to see what happens in that one.
My traner is a former Charter Oak alum. When I asked him once about Coach Lou his face light up. YOU KNOW COACH LOU? I told him I just admired his sense of family. He said "that's it! It's all about family with Coach." I asked him what made him special. He said it was everything. He still talks to his former CO coaches and is a big CO fan. Nothing negative about him at all. When I asked him about the negative talk about Coach Lou he looked perplexed..."what negative talk?"
Joey HOMO,
It's painfully obvious that you hold an old grudge against Big Lou for not playing you or for kicking you a$$ for 4 yrs. It is also obvious that you know nothing about the CO FAMILY, your a bitter little boy who needs a good old fashioned A$$ KICKING. I love your 80% of former players feel used, do you hold ex-CO I feel used Rally's and take a poll. Your a PUNK that runs the same old tired crap about the Farrar's every time come out of your hole. Swing the game this week and say hello.
Please the floor is yours:
Half truths?
Plain old lies?
Uneducated Rants?
Be specific. I know that's tough to do in an election year but give it a GUYS AND GALS whirl...will ya?
72.
Thanks for the football talk. Amat will get better. Gaise is something else. Johnson is exceptional and getting better. This team could be remembered as the team that started the next great Amat run. Great to see Alberico #91, a former Damien student, starting for the Lancers. Great kid, outstanding family. Bets of luck to him.
Charter Oak vs. Diamond Ranch will be epic! I'll be visiting colleges in Arizona and will unfortunately miss that game and the Sierra League opener.
So for once I'll have to count on others eyes to give me a sense of the games.
Best of luck my friend.
How do you like in the CO/DR game?
Lip Stick Homey thanks for reminding me that although I don't like John McCain my vote for him is the right thing to do after seeing that uneducated tirade with half truths and just plain old lies. Becareful for what you rant for.
This is Peggyy and I will not SUE!
final say
we agree on so many points. thank you for the responses. i guess we will never know the answers to great questions. i will say finally that dr played a great game and have absolutely no reason to hold their heads down. good luck this week. i would caution though, as i did when amat beat ol, there is sometimes a natural let down following a week where you've given seemingly everything. i hope this doesn't happen to dr as i am becoming a fan of theirs.
Obama for preisdent...isn't the Middle East already in turmoil? Any chance anyone knows how many civilians have been killed by US hands? What about the massive destruction of Iraq'a infacstructire? Schools, Roads, Dams, Water supply, Electicity, Universities? Who needs them when you're Nation Building?
Isn't the economy in shambles already?
Gov. Teminator just asked for a State bailout to the tune of $700,000,000 that's 700 Million!...will that worsen with Obama?
How about the Wold Banks...will they worsen with Obama?
Let's say they do? Who got us in this mess in the first place?
1 1/2 years of a Democratic Congress?
Really?
I'm voting for Mc Cain myself. I like train wrecks. I'm a train wreck You Tube junkie. Besides my momey is in red ink....PAST DUE Notices will keep me in millions! LOL You heard it here first!!! RED INK ..it's better than Gold.
God I love this country!
Bogan Friend learn how to spell. I am sure Bogan does not hang ot with people who cannot spell so stop with the friend cra-. Go ahead and sue me now.
Lets see here 0-1 vs the Inland Empire.
1-0 vs the OC AND
3-0 VS The SGV.
4-1 Not a bad start for BA. Diamond Ranch great game could have swung either way but the bottom line is Scoreboard and Amat gets the win and you cannot change that. Make excuses but the fact that you could not score for most of the game you DR fans should give some credit to that Amat Defense. The CO game will tell alot about your team. If it comes out and defeats CO then that BA game you were a legit solid team. If you lay another close to Golden Egg again to CO then you are not as good as you think and it will be true Amat had a off nite Offensively. Time will tell. As for Amat they either step it up because St. Francis is a good team or they let this DR game Shake their confindence and lose this one. Again time will tell. Dranch by the way your coaching staff is pretty good as well. Never liked CO after the defacing of our field a few years back so I am pulling for you Dranch. Amat:Time to turn it up men and we will our coaching staff is too good to let us play like that again.
HEY FRED,,,you should do something about the blgs here on the prep blgs re;coach bogan...they are rude & uncalled for.and not only untrue but are a reason for a lawsuite,,,,.a lawer may go as far as to supena these blgs .just some advise fred .please try to supervise your blgs closer in the future.FROM A BOGAN FREIND.
watch the middle east explode when obama gets in office. Obama is going to make our worst president jimmy carter look good if he wins. becareful what you wish for.
Let's see Sarah Palin. 5 schools in 5 years with a degree in journalism. Let's see to qoute Sarah...'Being a journalist is like being a writer except no one uses "books" to line their bird cages with!"....or put lickstick on them...hhahhahahahhah...or something funny. AIRHEAD!!!!
On the other hand. Obama gradiuated from Columbia after starting out at Occidental, and taught at Harvard after getting his Law degree and making his mark on campus with the best and the brightest in the country. Just like white supremist heavy Idaho University. Same difference Harvard...ummmm Idaho! Accetance rate at Harvard less than 6 % Accepatnce rate at Idaho...98%. Very Comparable! Jurist Doctrate.....B. A. Let's see....Rio Hondo vs. Stanford.....same, same.
Sarah Palin back stabbed her way to the mayor's office, took back door deals from the Republican Party who pegged her as "up and coming" ...that's "I'll do and say anything to get ahead!"...in political circles. Spent ear mark money like it was crack and built a Road To No Where after TRYING to build a Bridge to No Where"...and then denying any involvment in spite of memos and audio to the contrary.
I do give her props for her Family Values. Date my sister and break her heart..."Guilty of "Abuse of Power and Undue Influence" and several other civil rights charges that will soon surface. Hey SIS I GOT YOUR BACK!!!!
Obama, lets' see part of the Annenburg Group ...oh no not THAT REPUBLICAN DONOR based org.?
Is Annenburg a terrorists too?
Obama was a community organizer....oh nooooo baddddd thing. Martin Luther King was a community organizer, so was Ghandi, and so were the Fathers Of Our Republic...Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, ect. Matter of fact so was Sarah Palin.....that's code for grass roots movements. Groud up stuff like Civil Rights, Women's Rights, Voter Rights, Aids Walk. you know like those pretty PINK bows you see everywhere. Someone STARTED that at teh GRASS ROOTS LEVEL...i.e. Community Organizers.
Oh and how about that Ryan White kid...was he not a world community Oragnizer???? Mandela??? Aparthied Good?...Community Organizer Bad?
Sarah Palin doesn't read newspapers, George Bush didn't have cable hook ups at his Ranch in Crawford Tx. Can you say...Dumb and Dumber. No wonder he thinks the "FUNDAMENTALS ARE GOOD!"...are they STILL good? Let's see George W. will leave this country in two wars...the worst housing market in history....the worst economy in history....world banks in total free fall...states with no money....habius corpus in tatters....deregulation of every financial entity that glues the economy together...a total break down of every facet of the America Dream and facing that monumental world crisis you want to say Sarah Palin is qualified to be the President of the United States Of America in case Senior John gets cancer again for the 5x? Tell me you're not that lock step minded.
Obama's wife is a Lawyer in her own write with a Ivy League education. Sarah Palin's daughter is a hoochie. ...I mean a model for LIFE! But still a hoochie! were is the Moral Majority when you need them? and husband is a ...what exactly does he do other than make babies, ride his swife's coat tails and rent winter recreation gear. You know like the guy at the local Sport's Chalet.
John Mc Cain incites racial tensions...Sarah Palin is the Bull Horn with Lip Stick....GUYS AND GALS?????? Who talks like that!?
Clearly Sarah Palin is qualified. To dance around a brass poll and shake that money maker and scream...Dollah Bills Y' allll!!!!!
My name ARE YOU NUTS? and I approved this ad.

Shame on you for all the nasty things said about "Big Lou" and staff.
We have had 3 sons, and 3 grandsons play football at CO and the ones that played under "Big Lou" have been vey good students, athletes, and good citizens in general.
What a shame to make a joke of the fact that the Farrar family are close and live near each other. In this day and age when there are so many fractured families the ones that stay intact and have extended family relationships live this way. Nothing wrong with having a loving, good relationship with your parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Amat vs DR
The difference between this yrs Amat team & last (2) yrs, is that this yrs team found a way to pull this one out ! Last yr Amat would have found away to let this one get away like many games the last 2 yrs. Coaching makes a big difference. Props to DRanch for coming to play !!!

What a terrible blog. High school football and all others sports and activities one participates in high school is very important to being a well rounded student.
I take offense as I'm sure many people will at your terrible attack of Coach Farrar and staff. As a parent of boys who have played for CO I do not agree with your assessment.
Big Lou is interested in what they do academically and socially and he does not wash his hands of the seniors. Coach Dom stays in close contact with all the boys on a daily basis, and I know the boys think very highly of J.P,Lehigh ,Coach Smith.
I have heard Coach Farrar speak at a former players funeral and he was very emotional and had good words for him and other players on that particular team.
I think maybe some bitter parents or players may not respect the staff, but for the most part the majority feel very good about the concern and teaching that goes into CO's program

Will someone wake me up when King Stud and the SGV Scouting Guru are through with their babble of nothing. On one hand you have this self promoting blowhard and on the other hand you have well shall I say just a blowhard.
get real panthers...
And your going to tell me Obama is qualified. Poor Rosemead they still dont teach you guys anything.
I read these "blogs" and have to smile. If I were to tell you that "winning and losing" was irrelevant, you would tell me that I was "crazy". Well, call me crazy. I will admit that if a team, in any sport, is not out to win...then there is certainly is a problem. Coaches will tell you that getting a "W" will "right any sinking ship"...but..at what costs do you get the "W"? I believe that "modern day" coaching staffs will do ANYTHING to get that "W". Case in point. I have been priveldged to know many of the young men who played football for Charter Oak HIgh School. What "saddens' me is to hear the "negative" talk about the coaching staff at that school. To this day, I still "think the world" of my high school coaches. Each and everyone of them helped make me what I am today. I still see them and speak to many of them on occasion. The players from CO feel that they were "used". Once they were seniors and of no use to Farrar and his staff, that was it. I believe if you were to take a "poll" of CO football players over the past 10 or 12 years you would be "shocked" to hear what the results would be. I think that 80% or better would not have any respect for Farrar-Farrar-Lehigh!
Farrar speaks of "Family"...what it really means is the "Family" that has eligibility...becuase after that..you are an orphan! L.Farrar it's time toD Farrar..."get a life...living right next door to mommy and daddy?"...R. Lehigh..."you moved down the street from the Farrars?" You're not a staff...you're a cult! What I am trying to say is this...it's human nature to want to be a winner...it's human nature to support a program...not to mention it's healthy...If I were coaching, I too would want to win...but...I would want my team members to win as well...I would want them to respect me and know that I what I taught them was how to win at the "big game"...life! Shame on the CO coaches and shame on that staff...you need to retire...hey...thy can name the field...Farrar Stadium!
get real panthers...is this why republicans convince themselves that sarah palin is qualified. wow that was a great argument for NOT drinking the lkue and gold kool aid.
10-6 means what exactly to you?
yup you were never in danger of losing to a division 5 school..
if bassett takes you down to 3 points at the 2:00 mark and the yardage disparity is 500 yards to 56 is that a close game given the score?
too bad you're not learning from your close win. the serra league might change your mind.
either way great game lancers.
long live the king
You Diamond Ranch fans need a dose of reality. Even though the scoreboard was close, you guys were statistically dominated. Your entire offense could only put up 146 yards FOR THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Most of which came on ONE SERIES. Bishop's running back ran for 145 yards himself. What does that tell you? Please do not dishonor yourselves by ignoring this fact or saying things like "we should have won" and even the more stupid "We got homered."
Bishop played a sloppy game and that was it. This is the ONLY reason why the score stayed close. How many big plays were called back because of penalties? Did you even watch the game?
The Bishop bloggers on here give Diamond Ranch credit for a hard fought game and what do Diamond Ranch fans do? Do they return the favor and shake hands? NOPE They whine and complain about this and that. How unsportsmanlike. How embarrassing for the Panthers.
And one more thing, Sermons and Bonilla, two of the BEST players on Diamond Ranch's team are BISHOP AMAT TRANSFERS!
Fred
I was very proud of my son and the rest of the kids against BA Friday night. As BA left the field at half time they looked very tired and concerned that this game seemed to be turning in our favor. After our 21 play drive and score to make it 10-6 in the fourth Qtr BA seemed out of gas and on fourth down and six they caught a lucky break on a very close pass interference call against our defence. It could have gone either way but it worked out for them and they scored on the next play as it seemed that our kids were still stunned by the last penalty call. I think our kids showed that they are coming together as a team and are ready for League play starting this Friday .
I think our schedule shows that even though we are 1-4 we are still one of the top teams in the area. The teams we have played and lost to have a combined record of 18 wins and 2 loses.
1.Muir 4-1
2.Oaks Christian 5-0
3.Chino hills 5-0
4.Bishop Amat 4-1
Muirs only lose was to Oaks Christian and Amats loss was to Los Osos who is 4-1 and their only lose was to Vista Murrieta who is 5-0.I think were in some good company and this schedule is getting us ready for a tough Miramonte league race.Continue playing hard Panthers and good things will come your way.
who are you jonny cockran?
Trojan Man
The problem with James, is he runs his mouth way to much. But in any event, if your a real professional, do you air this on a blog?
This part of the process should be left up to the parents and the student. James, you have no right to be discussing persoanl situtions. Is that really your job? Do you represent the kid or have you be given the contract to do so? I would be very careful how you proceed, and watch what you say.
72 I agree with what you're saying. Completely and without reservation.
I also think that 10-6 at home with 5:39 to go with 2 weeks to prepare is not a function of anything but your opponents effort and preparedness.
Like Stanford beating USC last year. USC is a better team. Bishop Amat is the better team. Stanford couldn't duplicate that performance could they? We'll never know. You would concede wouldn't you that the same could be said about DR...we'll never know.
The rest is idle talk for bloggers to chew on. I never liked telling a team that stood with me down to the wire that "we" were sloppy. I always gave credit where credit was due. I guess that's my point.
Amat actually played very well. Only problem I saw was the other team didn't run and hide and actually never thought they were going to lose. Is getting 3 4th down conversions in a row a function of being sloppy by Amat or execution by DR ? Was DR sloppy given their 2 week layoff? I saw no rust in them. Why?
Just remember that Amat came back in great fashion against O Lu. That may have given Amat a boost of confidence. Beating the Bulldogs and the Spartans handily gave them more confidence.
My question to you is:
Did the DR game give the Lancers more confidence or did it give the Serra League coaches more confidence.
Both teams, DR and BA, will have a tough week of practice. Let's see how things shake out. Thta's the fun of talking sports...you never know.
Good luck to the Lancers and to the Panthers. Remember the best Rocky movie was the first....Rocky LOST! And everyone agrees it was the best one of the 7 Rocky films. People love an underdog who doesn't quit.
What kind of comment is this..
Definitely crossing the line
"As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true."
WHO ARE YOU ?
If indeed you consider yorself a "GURU" why in the heck are you scouting for a rag like the SGV Tribune . Get a REAL gig & leave our Panthers ALONE ! Tre is a nice young man, NOT PERFECT . But committed to playing ball , and his T E A M ! Bottom line is he DOES do well enough in the classroom to participate .
FIGHT ON
TM
It's funny on what the haters have to hang their hats on.
At first, it was simply, Amat sucks.
Then, it was that they would go 3-7 at best, if that.
Then it became an issue about them getting beat badly by OL or by one of the local teams. And that Amat could'nt compete in the Serra league.
Then it was, "CO" and the others will be playing late into the season, and Amat will surly not get into the playoffs.
Now it's, ya, you might get to the playoffs, but you guys are going to get wiped out once you there.
It just keeps going and going, so, I wonder what's up next ?
Hum...
Reality Check...
I still remember one of your great quotes..."it's all about the post season." Amat will not make the playoffs! Reality Bites!
in my opinion
holding does happen when you're getting beaten. holding also happens as a function of poor technique on a particular play. and holding happens on virtually every play in football. i give dr all the credit in the world for playing well and causing some amat's sloppiness. what i will, however, tell you is that this was easily amat's worst game and i've seen all of them. i still think amat was the better team. i don't know if dr works with moral victories but they got one friday night. if they played again, i don't know that dr would be as fortunate. that great staff you mention repeatedly would certainly eliminate those mistakes, wouldn't they? i think so too. the only problem i have with your argument is that you have not once acknowledged the fact that statistically amat dominated the game nor do you mention the possibilities that would have existed had those penalties not been called. personally, i believe dr played as well as it could and amat underperformed.
The quote below is definitely crossing the line of professionalism
"As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true."
My2Cents ! CMON You can not let calls like a block in th back and a clip go un-noticed like that especially when the foul is at the point of contact "very noticeable" Plus diamond bar was called for mostly Delay of games. how can u run a no huddle offense and have so many delay of games. I would look at the head coach of DB he seemed to be playing the refs at the beginning of the game. Refs tend to not like that.
FC and King Stud
Both of you need to lighten up a bit. You're animosity towards each other is very sad.
On the one hand, you have a mixed up (out of the closet donkey) blogger who hates everything about anyone (excluding Donkeys of course), and has a real hatred for this FC guy.
You really like to rattle FC's dingle balls every chance you get, and let me tell you, that you don't miss a step.
Then, on the other hand, you have the other fool FC, who is always on this blog constantly jibber jabbing and just can't shut the hell up.
You both go on and on with you're little war's, and it get real old when you two bang on each other all the time.
It's almost a daily exercise with you two.
Let it go, please let it go.
Game "I" saw. As in my own two eyes.
As far as anything else goes. Look me up. I still think our conversation is better in person. Damien vs. Chino Hills was two Div 2 schools playing up to their ability. League competition. As far as any comments atributed to you...how would anyone know? You are the Master Blaster of Spew. Why get so upset my friend. It's all entertainment. I think you're taking this blog thing too seriously. It's just fun waste paper bag talk. Why so mad. It's not like I called you a derogatory name. Besides I'm sure you're very secure in your masculinity seeing as you're always so up front about your school, your name or your anything. And never would hide from meeting me in person to talk sports. Relax my friend and take a Prosac...I'll save you a seat at the Anger AMagement classes I attend. You know they really work. And Sally Field said HI. Come on my friend "It's just a blog!" Relax why would you care what I say? Have fun being you and let others be them. I thought you were well on your way to being Amat's new friend...relax they still love you. Enjoy the blog and ley others be themselves. Isn't that what the Good Book tells us. God bless you my friend. Find peace in your heart and stop being such a little man.
CO vs DR GAME OF THE WEEK !!!!
Enough said
CO vs DR GAME OF THE WEEK !!!!
Enough said
walnut good luck during the season but wait til you get to league to talk. Honestly i think you will be blown away though when you see your league. Dont talk unless you win friday. You were all over South Hills claiming how good they are but i really think the teams youre going to have trouble with is West co and Rowland. They play tough. they are not softies. i think rhodes and King are going to have trouble running against that rowland defense. I have saw some film on them. They Swarm the ball like a golden hawk team i remember from a year ago. This Friday is your first test though. Well See?
Some of you have asked my opinion on some of the games Friday night...so here it is.
Diamond Ranch vs. Bishop Amat - I will be reviewing the tape again but my first impressions are the same that I said on ESPN radio Friday night. I expected more out of the BA and came away a little disappointed. I didn't see all the explosive plays that I saw in the OLuth, WC or Damien games. To be honest, I thought BA's looked very flat. But, that could have been from the bye week. But, Hegarty sure didn't look happy on TV after the game and that spoke volumes.
Some of that is due to the outstanding defense that DR played. I came away from the game with the feeling that #54 Kyle Lengyel was the best defensive player on the field. He was just all over the place making plays. He's a first team all-CIF player without question. And Brandon Sermons will be just fine at the D-1 level. He'll be a tremendous Free Safety
If DR can just develop a passing game, they can make a nice run in the playoffs. Plus, way too many penalties and that will not work against Charter Oak next week.
South Hills vs. Rosemead - I have watched the coaches tape twice and I must tell you that Rosemead played the game of their lives. That should be the ultimate complement to SH. They played SH really tough, but SH took their best shot. If anyone of you were at the game, I would love to here your thoughts on the game clinching interception by Ify Umodu. That was one of the best INT's I've seen on tape in sometime.
One thing to keep in mind with Rosemead, with the exception of the Harvard-Westlake game (and you don't count that because of all the players that were missing that night) this was a team that had scored 30+ points against Covina, Monrovia and Temple City. Friday night, SH shut them down to 10 points. That should tell you that SH is playing some pretty darn good defense...and they are.
As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true.
Bonita vs. San Dimas - I had feeling SD might have a this type of games and they did. I will be reviewing the tape this week and giving my thoughts on Wednesday. But I am looking forward to watching them in person on Thursday against Covina.
Have a great week.
i was really impressed with dr's defense. but to say they should have won the game is a bit of a stretch. also, to one poster's point, the flag on the int did not come late, it was called as soon as it happened. i've said it before, amat played sloppily but i do believe some of that was due to dr's defense. i asked these two questions before and will ask again, 1) does dr keep the momentum and win if the interception is upheld? 2) does amat blow dr out if they don't have those plays called back or the litany of other penalties?
Best high school game you have seen since you have been in the valley? baa haa What game were you watching Frank? Obviously you have seen very few games if you consider that one the best. That was the one of the most sloppy games I have seen with the exception of Gaise who played well. Amat had 9 penalties and even Hags admitted it was a sloppy game. If Amat wants to win their league or win games to help them make the playoffs they are going to have to step up their game big time.
Handled them..?? Amats defense shut out DR for 3 quarters. 0006....I do not see DR playing close with CO. CO wipes them out. Amat had a off nite in the Scoring area but that defense is something special to watch....
High School Football
You said: "Every penalty was legit. The flags were thrown at the point of infraction...That's desparation." (what was that ???)
Then you say: "maybe if the INT was called right. No complaints or whining. Bad calls are part of the game."
Ok, bad calls are part of the game. The INT was a bad call you say ...but the other calls, they were ok, in you're mind ?
Look, when you try to sound objective, at least make the effort. You are begining to sound like the BA announcer. A homer all the way.
The funny thing is that I don't care very much for Amat, but I can see where someone is speaking out his a-hole.
Funny thing about the PA annoucer the girl from Fox Sports who was carying the handheld field mic the one mounted on the clear plastic dome with the mic in the center of it kept turning around and looking up at the press box just shaking her head. It was funny to watch because we all knew exactly what she was shakig her head about we were doing the same thing she asked my wife at halftime if he is always like that and we just laughed.
Reality check.
I won't start a bad discussion on DR's part or bring out the drive by artists but the score and several regulars silence tells the real story.
It's been my point all season long and my complaint for four years on this blog.
When a team, any team, conditions itself all year long, when the head coach lays out a vision for the team, the school, the coaches and teh commnuity as Dr's has, when a team buys into the sysytem and the parents buy into the methods of discipline, team work and HARD WORK...anything is possible.
DR is a team on a mission. They are 1-4 and have played one of the best preseason's in the valley, bar none. The end result of all that effort by everyone came into focus Friday.
The penalties that some Amat backers see as sloppy was desparation by players trying their best to limit the damage of DR's defensive onslaught. Every penalty was legit. The flags were thrown at the point of infraction and very EARLY in the play. That's desparation. Down the field it's a mistake and sloppy. KNow the difference.
Bonilla was beast! That's not trash talking. He's a stud of the biggest order. #54 played to his potential and can get better...NOW. Every DR defender played well.
Amat was never at an advantage in any offesive area. Bishop Amat played well. To say otherwise is to make excuses. Hags and Co. are professionals with a lot of pride. They are also very respectfull of DR's effort that night as exhibited by the classy kneeling down. But make no mistake they were trying to score until 38 seconds appeared on the board.
DR showed every team in the valley something Friday night. Amat players to a man will tell you they were tough and might have beat them...maybe if the INT was called right. No complaints or whining. Bad calls are part of the game. But which call went in DR's favor all night? Surely they weren't the IMMEDIATE holding calls.
What other area team honestly THINKs they can COMPETE with AMAT? That's being honest. Every other team thinks Amat is a monster to avoid. DR thinks THEY are a monster in the making.
Roddy it was an honor to see you guys bang the Big BOYS ON THE BLOCK. No one loses a game like that one on Friday. Mutual respect is when everyone plays to the best of teir ability. AMAT gave as good as TEHY took. The same can be said about DR.
Best high school game I've seen since I've been in the San Gabriel Valley. Yes better than the Mendrun Miracle.
handled them? the reality is the score did not indicate how one sided the game was. close-but never in doubt. Gaise had more yards from scrimmage all by himself than the entire Diamond Ranch team did and DR only had two plays longer than 10yds all night. even with that, Amat nearly doubled yds rushing, yds passing, and total yds.
Amat took a knee THREE times in the red-zone rather than scoring again. Would 24-6 sound different? they had at least 3 or 4 plays of 30+yds called back by penalties, each killing drives. that might have added at least another touchdown or two. 31-6? 38-6? that's about what it felt like.
that being said - DR IS talented and DR/CO is without a doubt the game of the week.
Hey Fred. Myabe you should start thinkning DR vs CO for game of the week? You saw how they handled BA.
I subscribe to the theory that good coaching wins games. One example is Culver City, they were once a bottom feeder and doormat until Salter took over the program. When Salter took over he changed the losing culture and instilled discipline.
Can you imagine DRanch potential if they had a coaching staff of Amat's caliber? They'd be 5-0 and be able to compete with PAC5 teams. I'm not taking anything away from Layton, but he's not ready to compete with big boy football.
Husky Hater,
It's one thing to criticize a team or organization, and it's another to make fun of a parent. That is the most unclassy thing to do. This forum is to express your thoughts on the school, team and/or a player. Taking a cheap shot to make fun of a players parent is just uncool. That is the move of a coward. I could say that you wouldn't have the guts to say it to his face or any other mans face. If so, there's a game at CDF this coming Friday and I'm pretty sure his dad will be there. If you can sack up a pair, why not tell him yourself. That's right, your probably a kid that doesn't know better and the set you have haven't dropped.
This notion that going to Amat game is like going to a Raider game is a joke. I worked Raider games at the coliseum and can tell you there nothing could be further from the truth.
Don't believe me? Take a look at the Amat vs. DR TV broadcast. Take a good look at the crowd. Yeah boy, those costumed/tatted down asian Amat students/fans fans sure do look like some hardcore Raider fans (rolling eyes).
I am not an Amat fan, but I did observe the following after watching the game on TV:
1) DR was way more physical, bigger D-line and #54 was a big stud going both ways.
2) DR had greater overall team athleticism and team speed than Amat.
3) Amat has All everything coaching staff.
4) Amat played uncharacteristically sloppy football, whereby, stupid momentum killing penalties negated 3-4 long gains.
5)Amat although physically smaller, can play with the big boys because of much superior conditioning and coaching.
Conclusion: Amat wins by small margin due to better coaching and playcalling. However, Amat wins by big margin if you take away the dumb penalties.
In theory, high school games are won by great coaching. Hence, Verti is history.
For those of you calling for Bryan Heyward (the Amat PA announcer) to be fired, well, good luck. He's been around for ages, at least since I was going to school there in the early 90s. I love the guy - he livens up the atmosphere, and is not so dreadfully dull as PA announcers at other venues. Yes, he is a homer, but we certainly don't mind that.
As for the Diamond Ranch game, it was an ugly performance by Amat. The sheer number of penalties destroyed any offensive momentum Amat could generate. If they play that way against Serra opponents, they will have their rear ends handed to them. I will say that Diamond Ranch has a couple of studs on the defensive side of the ball, and that helped keep the game close as well. But the score was more of a reflection of what Amat did and did not do rather than what Diamond Ranch did and did not do.
CO Hater, You must have gotten your a$$ kicked 4 yrs straight in you hs days.
DR, I watched your BA game on tivo and the first thing that popped into my head was how much your D reminded me of Rancho. Quick off the ball with a stud in the middle. Friday will be a good battle for the league championship.
The sad thing is, is that even is SH worst years they will still beat West covina at their best. lol Kings of cameron and still reigning baby!
I just read the article from the Charter Oak/ Etiwanda game. Brandon Golden went to Monrovia and Leon Youngbloood went to Monrovia and Vincent Minor Etiwanda running back went to Duarte but transferred after his freshman year due to unfortunate circumstances. but they all played together on the Duarte Hawks team. Half of charter Oak skill player offence and Defence played duarte hawks together.
Personally Ranch fans I want to know the over/under on your game against Oak Friday night. Those guys don't have and haven't played the schedule you have preseason and I would expect you are going to beat them bigtime. Please tell me you put the smack down on the wannabe Chargers. What's your predictions Panthers?
DR WHO?
Have you given consideration that BA had a bad night because DR can and did compete with them. DR could say that they had a bad night...we also had those "two weeks off."
TrueBluePanther
The Guru doesn't know s---.
Its apparent this guy has ZERO EXPERIENCE.
Learning on the job. LOL
Going nuts,
How about you leave the San Antonio league to West Covina and South Hills and first of all deal with Rowland who has also improved and probably even better than your Walnut team, and your Junior Rhodes, can't compete with Juniors West Covina Ricky Johnson and South Hills Ify Umodu....you are going nuts.
Bishop had a bad night and that doesn't mean DR is so good. When a team plays badly, just means a team like DR hung around longer than they should have.
Get a clue, you guys still LOST. What's the record?
When Walnut played DB...FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON!...They have much improved since then. You cannot gauge this team by that first game loss. First games lots of teams lose them then come out strong the rest of the way. WC will see a new and improved version of the Walnut team and will have its hands full with Rhodes and Milan King. I am not so sure the San Antonio is a So Hills West Covina lock anymore. Walnut will be there this year and with this loaded junior team will be there next year. Remember Rhodes is just a junior. this is a manchild and will run over you.
Amat announcer: This is his style some like it some dont. He does get excited at the Bishop Amat progress as the game goes on example when Gaise gets the Ball "Deshawn Gaise"! "Gaise!" "to the 5 Yard line" "First down Lllllllancers on a run by De-shawn Gaise" He mentioneds Gaise 4 time on one play. The other annoying thing is that Damn Horn that sounds off after the quarter. It is a hand held in the annocers booth. Man they need to rig their clock with the sound to end the quarters That hand held makes you jump if you are sitting in front of it.
I went to my first Bishop Amat game last Friday night and it reminded me of a very small college atmosphere and lot of fun and excitment. Maybe because Fox was there. Sure there were some shady characters in the parking lots in fact at times I thought I was at a Raider game BUT with that said it was a whole lot of fun and enjoyed it.
Funny thing about the PA announcer, I agree he just needs to keep it PIFFY. He rambles on and on and on even at times rambling on when the home teams play starts and that, as the home team is a big NO NO.
Overall had a great time but they have to fire that PA guy he needs to get a play-by-play job well maybe not.
camron dean WHO? this kid from s.hills was to be the best QB of the vally'yea right....ive seen 3 of his games he has nothing to offer ANY college coaches he like the entire s.hills team is so overrated its a JOKE. the only kid on that team that i think is an ok player is goss.but damn i say his dad at the northview game and i could of swore the guy was frankinstine damn and it even oct 31 yet..no offense to his son. s.hiils will not win league this year... sorry MR GOSS
s.hills almost got beat by rosemead..wow im not surprised they the huskies are so overrated its sad.just wait till the start playing in league play, nogales is going to be their only easy win .w.cov will beat s.hills this year & rowland may do so also.. but the huskies may also consider a 4-1 walnut team. s.hiils is just not the teams in which they were in the past..bogans boys are SOFT ,,,rosemead proved that'here is my TOP 5 1 bishop amat 2 charter oak 3 san diamas 4 w.covina 5 rowland NOTICE NO S.HILLS IN MY TOP 5
Scouting Guru,
If your looking for a competitive game against DR, you'll have a hard time convincing me...BA should win by a runaway....
Sure would like your thoughts on these comments that you made.
Amat FB PA announer Bryan Heyward] IS terrible and DOES take away from the games.
One of the things I pay attention to when I go to games at OTHER FB stadiums is the PA announcer. At NO other stadium does a PA announcer announce who the QB, RB etc. are on EVERY play. And the dragging of the pronunciation of the players names or LLLLLLLLancers is irritating.
Do NOT know when BH will be shown the door, but the sooner the better.
Just had to put something on here about the lousy officiating at the West Co vs DBHS game on Friday at West Co. I have never seen a worse officiating crew and an even worse Head Referee (white hat). Took 15-20 mins just to figure out a 5 yd penalty in the first 5 mins of the game. The back judge is throwing the flag for delay of game from 20 yds away and with his back to the clock. It was a shame that the "officials" felt that they had to "control" the game because both teams came to play. The "officials" stopped the DBHS momentum on every drive and assisted West Co.'s drives with penalties on every drive. A little lopsided on penalties?? How about 10 penalties called on DBHS in the first half to West Co's 2 penalties. 2nd half 10 more penalties on DBHS to West Co's 1!!!The second half starts with a great scoring drive by each of the teams but DBHS's drive is stopped with a penalty after the TD and then promptly the "officials" work DBHS back 40 yds on penalties. No "homers" on that crew?!?!?! Worst officiating I have seen in 30 yrs of playing and coaching high school football. A good game could have been even better if the "officials" would have let both teams play!!
Dr 5-0 yes they will play them selves the'll play their Jv haha thank you captin obviouse
Hey charter choak .. chanta ok
DR got homered. DR earned that INT and in alot of peoples eyes were the better team that night just like Amat was teh better team against O Lu. DR knew they should have won and BA knew they almost lost.
Great job by the DR assistant coaches. Outstanding EVRYTHING by a staff that is coming together at the right time! Come the playoofs they'll be a monster staff.
Coach Layton is a coach on the rise. PLAIN AND SIMPLE !! Put him and his staff at a private school and they become Orange Lutheran North. Outstanding individual.
Diamond Ranch without Coach Layton never even schedules Amat much less almost wins. The hitting was textbook and vicious. DR hits BIG! The players were conditioned and focused like few teams I've seen in a long time.
DR will be tested next week against CO but somehow if DR plays anywhere near the level they played aginst Amat DR wins by 7. Is CO better than DR? I don't think so. I've seen both. CO and Amat both played Damein and in both Damien loses Damien gave up over 40 puts but scored over 20 themselves. BA vs DR was a 10-6 with less them 6 minutes in the game. The key for CO will be Allen's ability to handle the pressure of tight DBs and a LB crew that brings it hard. I don't think CO's defense is better than BA's. But it's always about matchups so we'll see. May the best team win. Friday night DR had teh better defensive effort as reflective in the legit holding calls. Most trying to slow down #12 and #54. The best KB crew in the valley...at least from what I've seen.
Best of luck next week Panthers and Lancers. It was the best high school game I've seen in 10 years.
THAT'S FOOTBALL THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSE TO BE PLAYED....TOUGH, AGGRESSIVE, CONTROLLED, DISCIPLINED, RESILIENT, FAST, FURIOUS, STRATEGIC, FUN, PAINFUL AND HONEST. NO ONE WALKED OFF A LOSER. THEY ALL PLAYED LIKE CHAMPIONS AND WILL REMEMBER THIS GAME FOR A LONG TIME.
I KNOW I WILL.
CO#1
D-Ranch you have no room to talk trash. We blew you guys out last year, we made your QB and RB almost cry. It was one of the most embarrassing games i have ever been in. We thought you guys were going to put up a challenge this year. Well all i now is me and my teammates are going to represent again and destroy you guys once again. Then hopefully you little want to be gangsters can shut up!!!!
I watched the SD vs BHS game and there was only one football team on the field, SD. BHS could not stop the SD offense. BHS is weak. Weak coaching, preseason schedule, QB, & O-line. Please stop putting BHS in the top 10, they have no business being there.
A smudge pot is a heater that is used to heat citrus field. The industries that San Dimas and La Verne were founded on.
For whatever reasons..Amat has had troubles with the games following bye weeks..
2004 Loyola 17, Amat 14
2005 St. John Bosco 20, Amat 10
2006 Carson 21, Amat 13
2007 Carson 21, Amat 0
A disturbing trend that I'm glad was finally broken...
i just watched the highlights of the sd/bonita game. wow, that looked like an exciting game. that number 6 from sd looks like a real game breaker. very impressive.

with all due respect, i don't buy the bye week thing. dr had a bye week as well. i will agree that amat was better and that statistically they dominated, but the bye week argument doesn't seem valid. the good news for amat is they did not play very well and weren't very efficient, but still won the game. i suspect they needed to win a game like that to know that they could win a game like that. if amat had the confidence and swagger it has now, the los osos game might have had a different outcome.
Husky Pride
Long way to playoffs. Not really concerned with the Rosemead. You guys played terrible and still won!
The true BA fans are quiet right now, HMMMM.
Amat definitely took DR too lightly. I'm with Hags when he stated that he is going to get rid of the pesky idle week. Penalties kill us big time but the deciding penalty against DR was indeed justified.
Having said that,Amat should have blown out DR. Gaisie's run yardage equaled that of DR's entire offensive output for the night. Not an impressive disciplined night for the Lancers but we will take the win none-the-less. As stated in the LA Times, DR's losses have come to teams with a combined 12-1 record.
Respect to DIAMOND RANCH!
We will not take them so lightly next year. In regards to this year, St. Francis has themselves one hell of a good team. We better be ready...
the play that brought the interception by the d-lineman from dr was huge. but it was absolutely pass interference (really more holding by the db). for some reason my eyes went straight to the receiver when the play began and witnessed the penalty. with that being said, it did take dr's momentum away. i will offer this however. i think 3 plays over 20 yards were called back for holding on amat. each of the plays i'm thinking of put amat into dr's territory, not to mention penalties that seemingly kept amat in 2nd and 3rd and forever. i didn't come away from that game thinking the ref's did dr in. two questions can be asked. 1) does dr keep the momentum and win if the interception is upheld? 2) does amat blow dr out if they don't have those plays called back or the litany of other penalties? at any rate, i thought amat looked the worst it has in any of its games and thought dr looked like a really well prepared team. does anyone think amat might have taken dr too lightly? i don't know amat's coach, but his comments in the paper make me wonder if he is a humble person. all in all, the game was pretty sloppy but physical.
go panthers!
r2d2 thinks CO is so good that any team that beats them should get TWO wins!
hey dark p...have u ever taken a math class??? you say that d ranch will go 5-0..there are only 5 teams in the league so that means that d ranch can only go 4-0 unless they play themselves..go back to class
go huskies!
Was scouting the gladstone/duarte game last night and it is official that coach crutchfield has no class. He allows his kids to showcase when they score a defensive touchdown. No wonder last year there was a huge fight between these two schools. The kids attitude is directly related to the coach, and crutchfield has no class. He deserves no respect. From what I hear the same situation happened on a defensive touchdown against SV. Must be nice to beat up on teams that do not have a win.
i agree the PA guy wasout of control is it always like that
I highly doubt that Amat is on the verge of comeing back to greatness when it barely sqeeked by Diamond Ranch.. Amat I's all hype but if the rankings prove to be true then doesnt That put Diamond Ranch right under B A?? At least in the top 5?
My pediction for league and I'll be the first
Dr 5-0
charter choak 4-1
bonita 3-2
Rest don't mater
Notes on Amat
To say that DR came ready to play some football was an understatement. They were certainly ready and they showed the LA area what a fired up team can do when everybody thinks that they are going to get blown out.
As for that penalty, well it is true that it would have been a game changer. It was called at a crucial moment in the game and had DR been able to keep the ball at that point in the game, it could have turned into something nasty for the Blue and Gold.
However, keep in mind that that was not the only penalty that was called last night. I will remind you that Amat had at least 2-3 plays (Most by Gasie) that were called back by the zebra's which could have also changed the tone of that game.
Penalties are a part of the game, and in this case the last one came out in our favor. Oh well.
BTW, was it just me, or did it seem as if Haggardy called a "very" conservative game last night?
I, like so many others in the stands was expecting to see some big numbers put out by the offense last night, but it just seemed to me that the offense kept running the ball over and over, instead of mixing it up.
Perhaps hag's went with what was a sure thing (the run), or perhaps he didn’t want to show off to much of the offense on Regional TV? It aslo looked as if DR had seen allot of film on Amat and was ready for almost any tricks that Amat was going to throw at them, because if you happened to notice the defensive formation that DR showed on the extra point attempt's you could see that they were ready for almost anything.
RC
ive seen both teams play twice, there BETTER than you, thats why !!!
I AM YELLING IN CAPS BECAUSE I WENT TO THE BISHOP AMAT GAME LAST NIGHT. I HAD A GREAT TIME AND ALTHOUGHT THE STADIUM IS A DINASOUR AND TECHOLOS MADE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE I HAD A GREAT TIME EXCEPT FOR THAT GOD DAMN P.A. ANNOUNCER.
MR. OUD MOUTH NEEDS TO SHUT UP I REALLY WANTED TO GO UP THERE AND STRANGLE THAT IRRATATING PIECE OF (INSERT NAME HERE). SORRY BUT HE RUIN THE WHOLE EVENING.
WILL THE P.A. ANNOUCER AT THE BISHOP AMAT GAME JUST SHUT UP. YOU ARE NOT DOING A RADIO BROADCAST I KNOW WHAT I HAVE JUST SEEN I SAW IT FOR MYSELF RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND YOU DONT NEED TO BRING IT TO LIFE FOR ME. YOU ARE NOT VIN SCULLY (AND FRANKLY NEVER WILL BE, BECAUSE I’D RATHER BE DEAD)
MR. AMAT P. A. ANNOUNCER SHUT UP AND GO TO THE JOHN RAMSEY SCHOOL OF P.A. ANNOUNCING (DODGER STADIUM ANNOUCER IN THE 70’S AND 80’S) BECAUSE YOU ARE THE MOST ANNOYING PERSON IN THE WORLD. THE REASON I'M TYPING IN CAP'S IS BECAUSE THIS IS HOW ANNOYING YOU ARE. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU AND I DONT NEED TO KNOW EACH AND EVERY PLAYER WHOSE IS ON THE FIELD EACH AND EVERY PLAY. SO IF YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE THE OVERMODULATION SOUND SYSTEM MADE YOU SOUND LIKE A SCREAMING JACK ASS. JUST GIVE WHAT DOWN IT IS, WHAT YARD LINE THE BALL IS ON AND THATS IT.
OTHER THAN THAT SOMEONE AT AMAT NEEDS TO SHUT YOU UP
CAN YOU HEAR ME CUZ ALL I HEARD LAST NIGHT WAS YOU LOUD MOUTH AND YOU WERE WORTHLESS AND TOOK AWAY FROM A GREAT SCHOOL ON ITS WAY UP AGAIN
Okay....We are 1-3 coming in, but just take 30 seconds to repaly this game in your mind. Heres the setting: 4th quarter, ba up 10-6 with 5:36 to go, 4th and 1 before a false start by amat, so now 4th and 6 on the DR's 23 yard line. (Nationally Televised, SGV REFS and at bishop amat.) QB for amat drops, there throwing a screen to WR # 87, #15, CB for DR picks up on it, Jumps the snap and the receiver behind the line of scrimmage, sophmore by the way. The ball is cocked and thrown, while in flight, behind the line of scrimmage, #15 pops #87 and he tips the ball into the air, and #52 DT picks the ball out of the air and rumbles for 67 yards before being caught on the ba 34 yard line. NOW, NOW, hold on, it takes about hmm...17 seconds for him to trot down. In route before being tackled maybe uh...4 secs after #52 catches the ball, a FJ throws a flag. During the transition, either #58 or #55 for amat, cut #5 from DR for no apparent reason. Back on the focus here. Now the clock is down to 5:12 or so. The whole Amat sideline is silenced, WHY you might ask. Ill tell you why, We are on their 34 yrd line just came off of a quarter long drive to score and the momentum shifted because if DR scores, even without an extra point, DR wins. To damn good to be true, The refs came to the rescue of a team that was not as half as good as us, (because we have seen better teams...right people?) and had a reputation to defend. I will never accuse a team of cheating, but they know they didnt deserve that win. Everybody that watches the recap of this game on FSN, please watch how this plays out, and tell me what you think!!
DR-6 Muir-16
DR-21 Colony- 0
DR-6 OC-42
DR-21 Chino Hills-22
DR-6 bishop amat-17
Looks bad doesnt it?? Its not, Just look at the film from the CH and BA game and tell me what you think!
Sierra Vista may not have a great football team, but they do have some statistical leaders in offensive categories.
BTW, what does a good football team and a nice stadium have to do with each other?
Both Sierra Vista and Baldwin Park have nice stadiums, because as the bloger below me just said, the local community stood up for them.
I only wish Amat could have a nice new stadium too, but we can't all have what we want.
BTW, for what it's worth, I went to the BP, El Monte game during the bye week and while that stadium is very nice, it is very very small.
Sierra Vista has a new stadium because the citizens of Baldwin Park Voted to improve the schools and that included the stadiums. I think it is great that the citizens of Baldwin Park support the schools and the athletic programs like that. My son goes to WestCo and they have a nice field with crappy stands. Thats like putting nice rims on an ugly car. You would think that some of these schools in more affluent areas would do the same for their kids school.
I have 3 questions?:
1. What the hell is a Smudge Pot?
2. Will LP win a game this year?
3. Why the heck does Sierra Vista have a new field?
My opinion on the SH RHS Game, I do think Sh was the better team but RHS played the better game. They gave Deen no time to get rid of the ball. They were in the right spot everytime. They went trips to throw a 1-1 fade to Umode.... Ended up 1-3 with Umodu trying to knock it down. They blew up Roddy's dlam screen knowing thats basically all he runs. And did everything they could to re-route Vaughns. As for the running game, RHS came hard with blitzes from all over the field and hit kids in the mouth consistently the whole game.
I too was a graduate of RHS but am a parent of a Husky and i want to say that i will look forward to seeing how the Panthers do in the playoffs. San Dimas better watch out!
Aahh!
the old "weplayedbadandthefieldwasbadandtherefswereagainstusthatswhyitwasclose"
excuse.
shoulda known.
There is no way that they beat WC. They lost to DB by 20, while DB lost to WC.
Hey LJ I am not trying to make excuses for RHS but I was only saying that it would have been nice have our tight end playing in the game. Rosemead played their hearts out and I am pround of them. Stop the hatin and I wish you guys luck.
4-1 Walnut is coming on strong. Leonard Rhodes was on fire. WC better be ready because this Mustang team is really bringing it on right now. What a way to open league play in the Sna Antonio two 4-1 teams going at it. Altho WC will be favorite I see Walnut upsetting them. Two very good runner that nite Rhodes and Johnson of WC. I give the slight edge to Rhodes.
Th lay off was noticed on the Amat side but not on the Dranch side, they came to play. Amat full of penalties and the oline did not look very good. Lots of missed tackles most notably was Genres on the 3rd play of the game, Maffie and Seals also missed tackles. King Stud your supposed to be watching the game not looking at the coach FA-G-IT....HE HAS POUNDS AROUND THE WASTE? you are ga-....Amat will take the win but that game at St. Francis is no Gimme St. Francis is 5-0....Amat better get it together they looked awfully sloppy last nite.
Trany prop,
You also left out the 62 CO dropped on DB while WC struggled. CO played bad against Etiwanda and the refs on a cow pasture of a field and still got the WIN.
Fred/Steve/Big Reg & Staffs
Thank you for coming out last night and covering the Smudge Pot!
Hope you guys enjoyed it as much as we did..
Always nice to having a winning memory!
Keep up the good work and thanks again.
slacker,
you conveniently skipped the West Covina part of the equation-which is where the link is drawn!
r2d2-seriously? why? because they barely beat Etiwanda - whose wins are against Temecula(0-5), Carter (1-4) and Chino (2-3)? I'm still not sure Charter Oak has beat a good team. are you? which one? Aliso(0-5)? Pioneer(1-4)? Diamond Bar? please!
Transvestite poverty.
Tight games with Glendora and Charter Oak means ETIWANDA is a IE contender and can stand with any team. To say otherwise demeans their play. Walk in their cleats and then blowviate.
charter oak,
the new number 1 team in the valley, should be this week and they will stay there all year , give credit where credit is due.
Charter Oak and Glendora squeak by Etiwanda. West Covina beats Glendora. Amat destroys West Covina.
Draw your own conclusions.
It's shame Sierra Vista is 0-5? They have this brand new stadium, and I can't believe their program is that bad! What a waste of our tax dollars. They definitely need a new coach. I could see Baldwin Park getting a new stadium, but why Sierra Vista and Bassett! These teams are horrible, and what there about, 10 miles apart from each other! I mean look at all the rest of the teams, with good football programs that have to play either at Covina District field, or Citrus College. How does something like that get approved? These three brand new stadiums are almost walking distance from each other!
How come Covina, NorhtView,Gladstone,Glendora,AZUSA just to name a few, can't get a new stadium?
Dranch, just a few words about Amat game, should have brought your A game. Watched it on tape after Charger game and beyond the hype it was not a great game. To bad the Fox folks were so biased for their Amat faithful. Chargers had a tough game at Etiwanda, who proved a hard fighting team, lots of points on the board.I now understand why Glendora had such a fight. CO made mistakes late and alowed Etiwanda back in game with 6 min to play. Two key itercpts kept the game in CO win col. The early one by Goldon and the late one by nose grd Williams. You should expect Chargers to come to play. No sad songs after this one.
HERE WE GO CO! NOW THEY COUNT! TIME TO SHOW US WHATCHYA GOT WITH THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE SEASON RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE! GIVE THEM HELL, PLAY LIKE SPORTSMAN AND BEST OF LUCK! YOUR COMMUNITY IS PROUD OF YOU AND WE WILL BE THERE IN STRENGTH TO ROOT YOU ON! HAVE A GREAT GAME!
LJ
Deal with it !
Hardly any posts about Amat today even though they win. I watched the game on tv last night and have a few observations.
I was not really impressed with Amat with exception of the running back Gaise. I was even less impressed with the Ranch. This was a sloppy game on both side. A questionable pass interference call in the 4th wiped out the Ranches chances for a win. The long drive from Diamond Ranch was the most impressive thing of the night.
Also I was not impressed with John Jackson color commentary. Fox can surely find someone who does a better job. Also his homerism was tad on the annoying side. Finally, I noticed that Hags looks like hes carring a few extra lbs around the waist. Coach hit the treadmill pal! ha ha
There's alot of congrats to RHS and how big of heart they have. How they are missing this play maker this week and one of there play makers at the beginning of the season. Excuse after excuse. One blogger saying "South Hills got the win, but they won ugly, the only way they know how" is the most disrespectful thing to say when these boys were playing their butts off, considering most predicted that RHS would win including Calpreps. So much for that.
I know that San Dimas and Rosemead are getting all the
hype. I agree they deserve it. I was at the SEMHS vs. San Dimas game. The SEMHS defense was terrible, Manny Acost and Neiko Padillo both went out with cramps at half time. Say what you want, but if Neiko and Manny stay in the game, it might have been closer. Now that the defense has improved, look out. Yes, the Eagles will not have it easy in league, but they will prevail. Week #2 will decided who wins the championship. There has not been a team that has had an answer for the Acosta and Garay duo. We will have to wait and see. Actions speak louder than words. So, I can't really say much. Except....DONT DOUBT THE SOUTH!
Tough win yesterday for workman, they were able to come back from a 14-0 deficit. Shows they got perseverance for close ball games. The game shouldn't have come to a thriller, workman didn't have their bruiser Bradford. Can't say much about the win, but its a rivalry and both teams want to come out with their best punch.
Congratulations to the San Dimas Saints. Last night when I came home, my son was really upset about losing the Smudge Pot again.
After my speech about life, I just told him, sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. The Saints were just better than us last night. Don’t make excuses, just move on and get read for next week.
I hear you Lilushleague. Back your son's team & best of luck to the Bulldogs .Just tell me your # on 82 CIF team , I probably know you , were you # 24 , #44 ? If #44 WOW major props to you my fellow Panther
You are correct Trojan Man. Rosemead has always been know for the lack of size and big at heart and yes I always have a Fond spot in My heart for the Panthers Its hard not to when you were part of the nucleous that put that Banner on the GYM. But My alleagance is where my Kid Goes and plays WC BULLDOGS . Rosemead should go far in the playoffs but man o man that O-LINE of San Dimas is something special. But HEY it seems that no one gives any credit to the O-Line of WC. they do lack size across the board but they're are quick and they open holes. Me being a ex skill player I do give props to all the unsung heros in the trenchs. with out a offense line you have nothing.
BRING BACK Mc Kinnon .
RESTORE Arroyo.
What happened to one of the most feared teams in the SGV . This new coach has run it to the ground . I am ASHAMED of what has become of ARROYO .
BRING BACK DJ
Nice to see you finally give RHS a little love . Don't forget your roots Lilbushleague . RHS has one HELL of a group of young men , and if not for a few mistakes it would have have shocked the SGV if the Panthers won .Like I said before Tra Sumler is a STUD , and that DEFENSE , ONE MISSED COVERAGE and that was the difference. I have not seen San Dimas this year but god willing these two teams stay healthy & meet in the CIF Finals .It will be one HECK of a game As you all KNOW RHS has NEVER been a HUGE team , just play with H E A R T !
WATCH OUT MVL
THE PANTHERS ARE ON THE PROWL
FIGHT ON PANTHERS
TM
I was not at the Game, But I keep hearing Rosemead played South Hills really tough. Me being an RHS alumni, I just have to say Good job Panthers. and also good Job South Hills. A Win is a Win even if you are winning ugly which is the only way South hills has been winning, Now that league starts Rosemead should have no problems winning their league. As for South Hills we will have to wait and see, OH I FORGOT! Everyone has annointed your team CIF Champs already. and as for Walnut Great record at
4-1,Who did u Beat ??? OH Yeah! Covina and Arroyo,Did you try to even schedule any one in a higher DIV. OPPS you DID, Diamaond Bar which spanked you???
And Rowland at 4-1 , I give props for Beating up on a So called good Nothview team. We will have to wait and see if schedulling tougher teams make you better for league/ GO BULLDOGS
OH yeah you should have seen Ricky Johnson run last night againts Diamond Bar It was awesome Good luck everyone in the San Antonio League.
Well no matter which of the tailbacks at San Dimas you feel runs the best, there has got to be one common thought among SD fans - this is without a doubt the best team San Dimas has ever fielded in its history.
Nico Barbone, Daniel Joseph, Erick Brown, etal are all very talented and best of all - they have the best offensive line in the valley to run behind. When you have two backs that go for over 200 yards each you have to give some love to the O-Line.
I watched the video clip on the SGVT web page and Nico clearly understands how important the line is in front of him. I can't see anyone beating the Saints in their league and the upcoming San Dimas vs. Rosemead game will be a lot of fun to watch.
For those of you who think I only appreciate Daniel Joseph, please forgive my passion for his performance. I just think if you consider Nico for POY, you can't just dismiss Joseph... because there is no way Nico could be so effective without Joseph complimenting him out of the back field.
Again, there is no stopping the San Dimas O-Line. As long as they stay healthy and keep pushing people back, Barbone, Joseph, and Brown will run all over the place.
Rosemead really missed their tight end tonight. Not only is he a big play maker but he is a long snapper. I am proud of Rosemead and the fact that they can play with just about anyone. By the time all of the players come back I looked foward to possible showdown with San Dimas. By the Scouting Guru should give some respect to Tra Sumnler. Maybe he should venture out towards our area!
Steve:
Well said, this guy is just a cancer in the Saints camp. We certainly dont need this kind of fan in our stands.
A mindless person who probably hasn't ever coached or played the game.
It's pretty obvious that Daniel and Nico are really concerned about one thing: The Goal of the team and praising their Oline as expressed in the interview by Barbone.
Just Wondering,
Comparing Joseph to Barbone is like comparing apples to oranges, or a championship dragster to a championship stock car. They are both designed to do different things and they both do them very well.
Like I said on the two-minute drill, and others have said here tonight, they compliment each other. Having seen the Wing-T before, the key is the fullback, who must get the hard yards of the middle to draw the defense to the center point of attack and then you go wide with the sweeps. It's really a thing of beauty when it works right. Basically what San Dimas has rigt now is a pitcher with a blazing fastball who can also drop a curve off the table, or a basektball team who has a dominating center with 3-point gunner on the outside. It's pick your poison. But like I said, you can't really pick who is better, because they both have different traits and both do them very well.
what a game between amat and diamond ranch. dr had the most well prepared defensive unit amat has played this year. what a physical defense. #54 was so impressive. i can't say enough about that young man. dr could have done a better job managing its timeouts. for amat, the win came in its most sloppy performance of the year. at least 3 big plays were negated by penalties and the offense looked sluggish virtually all night. but dr had a lot to do with that. all in all a good game to watch. seems to me that amat needs to understand that its earned level of respect from other teams means those teams will be shooting to knock them off. again, good game and good luck to both teams from this point forward. great picture of johnson. that would have been a great pick.
Fred/Steve
I know South Hills won tonight, but I think you have to give consideration to SD at #3.
Very Impressive tonight and now beating two teams in the mighty Miramonte..
hey there "Knight":
Stupidity and frustration caused both of those ejection calls during the game (SEMHS vs. AHS). The game was far more of a blowout than the actual score, if SEMHS did not commit stupid penalties, the score would have read this (49 - 7), instead it was 35-7.
Alhambra's QB was under throwing and overthrowing his receivers all night long and towards the end, the snail-speed defense of SEMHS finally put 2 and 2 together. Sure SEMHS defense came through, but it wont be enough to coast through league play like last year.
and to the poster named, "Knight" - i hope you're not an Arroyo fan, because your team has got a long OFF-SEASON ahead of them!
With regards and much respect to both Nico & Joseph, I think they compliment each other. Nico pounds it inside and the defense clogs the middle then they hand off to Joseph and he breaks it outside for a long gainer. Its truly a beautiful thing to watch. Either way its a tough day for the defense when they are being pushed around by that big o-line and then have to contend with Nico and Joseph running through or around them.
Just Wondering
You might be better off enjoying that you have such a good backfield, than starting your ridiculous pioneering for one player being the best.
I have watched Barbone for three years now and painfully speaking, we haven’t had an answer for him in any year. In a Wing-T style offense most of his yards come down the middle or inside. He can run middle, inside or outside and I think Joseph would get killed inside. I judge a runner on what he does after he gets hit and this kid just has a different skill level combined with toughness.
Joseph is a good runner, but Barbone is the guy that makes your team click.
Congratulations to the Saints, you guys are a very good team...
Wow... We got lucky, if it was'nt for all those penalties Rosemead would of kick our butt..Rosemead is small but tough there legit! My respects to the RHS boys
We should of beaten Bishop Amat but regardless we proved we are not only one of the elite teams in the Valley next week let's be honest Charter Oak will get what they deserve from us "payback" and a then we will be the second best team in the Valley and probably not lose another game the rest of the year. See you in the Finals Muir or if you get better and improve maybe South Hills. Peace!
Just Wondering
Hey moron. The wing-T is centered around the best back in the middle.
Who sets up who? Learn something about the wing-t then get back to me.
You've had your nose in Joesph ahole to long...
Jospeh is good, but Barbone the real baller!
LA needs a lot of help in a hurry. No one on offense seemed to want to make the big play. too many dropped balls, missed blocks and soft runs.
On defense, WOW, what a difference a half makes. We looked like world-beaters in the first half and looked like a wet diaper in the second. La Serna got the ball three times and scored all three times.
How do you punt with 8 minutes left and let them drive down the field, score and put the game out of reach? LA...where are you hearts?
Coaches need to make some changes in a HURRY! Apparently the locker room is getting ugly too. Some dissention in the ranks!
Get A Grip...
You're an idiot! Joseph goes for 219 yards on half as many carries as Barbone with his 201 yards! Yea, Barbone had more touchdowns, but Joseph got him (Barbone) to the red zone every time! What game were you watching?
My same old BS is correct... quit trying to stick up for Barbone. He's great... no argument from me. But Joseph is better.
Just Wondering
You have got to be kidding me. Our team beat the crap out of Bonita and you come on here with your same old BS.
Barbone and Joesph had great games, but Barbone carried the load with 5TD and about 200+ yards.
Again, your point is taken but WRONG..
BA had a one week bye they don't remember that DR had the same amount of time off since their last game. BA was lucky the ref's sided with them for that pass interference call. BA just was over hyped from their win over OL.
hey lancer
Dr had rust two you didnt here them make that excuse..
How Dr lost To Amat... Stupid pass interference wasnt for that dr prob would have Won the game ergh ohh well looks like Dr gets to finally play a cupcake next week
was the tds in the sh game running or passing
The two week bye layoff showed in Bishop Amat as far as Offensive consistency. They really never got into a groove. Props to Diamond Ranch they have a good defense and Number 54 is solid. Coch Roddy did a great job in preparing his team for this big game... Also Credit Amats defense blanking Diamond Ranch in the first half and only giving up 6 points all nite. The win was not what people predicted but we will take it. After this multi penalty game for the Lancers and the obvious 2 week rust, Hagerty will bust their a--es and get them ready to play much improved football next week at St. Franny.
#73 Carlos Chacon from SEM got ejected from tonights game vs Alhambra. Two guys from Alhambra also were ejected for fighting.#73 will have to sit out the league opener against El Monte next week. What an idiot.
Who started the fight at the Alhambra game. Both teams should know that they start league next week. I blame the coaches for not having their teams under control.
#73 Carlos Chacon from SEM got ejected from tonights game vs Alhambra. Two guys from Alhambra also were ejected for fighting.#73 will have to sit out the league opener against El Monte next week. What an idiot.

CO score?
IE REFS BLOW!
First at Rancho and now at Etiwanda. Three facemask and four PI's, three were throw aways out of bounds. Etiwanda had TWO penalties and both were offsides the whole night. Etiwanda had one drive for a score and the rest were big plays. It was 35-18 with six minutes to play and it ended 35-32.
Rosemead's starting tight-end Luis Diaz didn't play due to an injury. He's a big target and a great weapon for the panther offense.
San Dimas 50
Bonita 33
Great QB at Bonita... great arm!
Too much SD offense - the O-Line for SD is just remarkable. They moved the ball at will against a pretty darn good Bonita defense. If there was any doubt that Daniel Joseph is a better back then Nico Barbone, it was put to rest tonight. Joseph was off the hook... he must have had 300 yards between his rushing and kick returns... A total stud. Nico was great up the middle all night, but the story is their O-Line... Kyle Salm was pushing people all over the place as was Ryan Doll and Garrett Smith. Doll played both ways most of the night and never slowed down and Smith runs great for a guy his size - made big blocks down field all night long!
I predicted a 21 point SD win, but I was off by 4...
The Pot stays in Saint Land!
Great job for both teams - nothing for Bonita to be ashamed of... they are legit but SD is special this season!
LOTS of STUPID penalties & STILL the SH players were crying about this & tht ALL game long . Tra Sumler is a stud , I have no idea who # 28 for SH is but kept talking ALL NIGHT , The Huskies are OVERRATED ! RHS just made too many mistakes .
WOW ...
Rosemead had there chances but could not finish , lots of respect to the RHS line on both sides of the ball. South Hills is BIG , but they were SOFT .
FIGHT ON
TM
How about giving rosemead some credit for playing their hearts out on that field. They had a chance to win that game if it wasn't for the fumble and all the penalties.
not impressed with a huskies win tonight, they have shown no offensive consistency at all. offensive line is a big waste of space. and cameron folds under pressure, doesnt know how to get rid of the ball. and i love south hills,........yikes sorry boys
I haven't seen CO play, but DR looks like CIF champs to me. That defense is FAST & the offense will get it done.
diamond Ranch 0 bishop Amati 10 at the half What???? Def best game ever.. is Amat as good as it seems or has dr been under estimated.. ??
"FU" LA HATERS!
Go Conqs
Hey lil joe
didn't they teach how to speak the truth at amat....the fottball school the world revolves around.....*haha*
Now That's Funny,
your a joke, never say bad program and dean karno in the same sentence. best coach glendora or the sgv has and will see in a long time. 5 league titles and glendoras only cif champ. if he was to be healthy you would be putting your house up for sale trying to get into the glendora district to put your son in the hands of the best.

CO Bro ,
That really says more about the rest of the bloggers than it does Amat fans. It proves what I've been saying all along. MOST of the smack talk is started by others and the Lancer faithful come here to defend the nonsense.
When the knuckleheads have nothing to hate on... it's nice and quiet for you. See some have said that the Amat folks call out the lower division schools in the valley that we "should beat" anyway... playing the bully on the block. Not so. But when the little guy down the street starts "popping off"... well sometimes they just need to be given a shot... or put in their place.
Hopefully the blog doesn't blow up in 8 hrs because that will mean we took care of business. You rarely have heard an Amat fan pounding their chest after a win. Go back to the archives of the OLu win. Much joy... but little smack talk to the rest of the valley.
Here's to taking care of business on Fox for all to see.
Amat football in just a few hours. Hagerty is right...no mid season bye week next year. Almost two weeks of no Amat football is boring within the sgv. Check out the future of Amat. I know it might be a 10-15 year project but its nice to see some planning.

the LOS ALTOS- LA SERNA game is 7:30- i hate to say it-but LS will win- LOS ALTOS is winless for a reason- they have no off line-very poor playcalling- only game they will win will be against WILSON
3.5 hours to "SMUDGEPOT"
GO SAINTS!!
GO O-LINE
GO D-LINE
GO NICO, D.J., ERIC, KALMAR
GO KYLE!!
THIS IS GOING TO BE A BLOWOUT!!
Character is not accepting a building named after you while you're still alive. How long did it take Wooden to accept that honor from UCLA? ....and he ONLY did FINALLY accept the honor IF UCLA would INCLDE his wife NELLIE'S name as well.
That's character, class and incredible devotion in High Definition for all to see!
If you're talking Socrates I'll agree with you. But the best teachers only teach what they know. Wooden knew character. Listen carefully to his memories of his youth, or his parents of his upbringing. Coaching basketball is just what he did for a living.
i agree with the main point of your post frank, but remember: the best coaches are truly teachers and the best teachers teach character.
co bro,
Yes and it was nice not to have to read the idiotic posting of all the haters out there. As you said, I am sure it will resume in 8 hours. Also good luck to all playing tonight and here is hoping for injury free games.
I recall the Tartans bending over and takin it from Eldo last year when they were strong. Eldo is down comin off back2back championships. so dont toot that bagpipe cuz ya beat em this time. SHILLS was the only team from the sgv that was able to play with the Oc last year. even Coak got runover by THILLS and the SHILLS stood tall
FREE KYLE WITHEM !
FREE KYLE WITHEM!
FREE KYLE WITHEM!
FREE KYLE WITHEM!
No disrespect intended to the Amat fans but.....this week has clearly been a little easier to bare since Amat had a bye week and Joe A. and the boys didn't post too much this week. I'm afraid this little break us non-Amat fans enjoyed will soon be over in about 8 hours.
Anyways, good luck to all teams tonight. I hope all players come through injury free.
GO CO!
Just Wondering,
It was pretty obvious in your first post that you were referring to winning football games. There's nothing there talking about the team character so don't get all bent out of shape.
"Glendora has a tremendous program. They have been fielding great teams for as long as I can remember. Some schools in the area (ie Gladstone, Ganesah, etc...) should go watch a weeks worth of Glendora practices and then go back home and do exactly what they do! It's no fluke that they do well year in and year out... their program works!"
If you want to call out for other teams to go and watch their practice so they can be more like GHS, you better be prepared for a little rebutal because that is a pompous statement.
Mark does a great job there with the kids both on and off the field. Coach Karnoski was a great coach as well but 5 league titles (especially baseline league titles) in 25 years does not constitute a great program.
Sorry but the facts are just that...facts!
LOL,
if you read the blogs last year you can tell he was all about Glendora, and since his son just graduated he moved onto other teams. Look back in the archives and read. truth be told
Just Wondering...maybe just maybe I'm missing something or took too many hits back iin the day...but football is notorious for being a sport filled with egomanic dads, living in the past grads and sports is everything lads. Think about the studs on your team, back in the day, and what did they do after high school...for the most part. Some are great individuals but too many are lost without the structure of a team, a coach and yes..Allen Iverson...even PRACTICE!
Football, like ALL sports DOES NOT BUILD CHARACTER...IT REVEALS IT!!!!!
Get that straight. It will always be the same. Just look at the story of Ernie Davis, Jackie Robinson, and the UCLA Bruins teams of John Wooden and compare them to the Maurice Clarett, Lawrence Phillips, and Florida State, Miami, Florida teams of recent memory.
I hear the same thing at the school where my kids attend. I'll say it again. Where are those studs today. Right now. League MVP, Defensive MVP. Team MVP...trust me it ain't pretty.
Look at legendary Little League Dads, football parents complaining in the stands, basketball coaches selling out to win BIG, people tearing each other apart on the blog....my question has always been the same. "This is character?" Then I look at their kids and guess what....NO DIFFERENCE. You don't expect apples if you plant lemon seed.
Someone said something I didn't like...call out his kid, some one critiques the coach...your kid sucks....someone calls it like they see it and questions a players ability at the next level..."must have run over your kid" someone has a problem with the local big mouth....key his car, break his windows...kick his a$$.
No folks. Sports doesn't build character...it reveals it! Or maybe John Wooden is wrong and Bobby Knight is right. Character is built at home and manifest itself in the classroom , on the filed and in society.
This year when all the sports have finished and the balls have been put away....character will reveal itself in the most brutally honest way. 6 months after graduation is the saddest time of the year for some and the happiest time of their lives for others.
My mother had a saying and that saying went like this...."What you do matters more than what you say you will do. So make sure what you do speaks for itself."
Again for the hard of hearing.
"SPORTS DOESN'T BUILD CHARACTER...IT REVEALS IT!"
Saint Tartan
No, he's one of the dad of a WR. Just look at the tire.
Now That's Funny,
Like so many "prep football fans" you clearly equate the success of a program to nothing more then wins and losses. Prep football is soooo much more than that. If building character in young me, setting a polite and professional example for players, and giving 110% on the field have anything to do with success, then Glendora is a tremendous success!
Let's face it... there are several teams this year that are having a very successful season despite wins and looses... Ganesha comes to mind. Their coach is doing everything right at a program that has a terrible W/L record. But his kids believe in themselves again and that is SUCCESS!
You need to grow up and figure it out - Prep football is about character building and if a championship happens along the way - great. But any school that plays hard and has coaches that set good examples for their players - is a successful program. Glendora is a successful program - that's my point!
Hey Fred or ANYONE,
What time is LA game tonight?

Anyone see the Cal game? See big Cody P's Touchdown run? too bad he's a senior
So when Dean Karnoski was the Head Coach for Glendora they didnt do well? Last time i checked befor you walk into the gym they have display case of 5 League Champs in a row... hmm interesting... is that good? 5 League Champs in a row? Is that good?
Trojan Man you are the #7 of the 06-07 Glendora Football Team
Hey Fred, just curious about what you were surprised about in the Cal-El Monte game. BTW, great blog over here, you & your staff do an outstanding job

Well, like most "pickers" I went 3-0 on my Thursday picks... no big suprises here. Glendora has a tremendous program. They have been fielding great teams for as long as I can remember. Some schools in the area (ie Gladstone, Ganesah, etc...) should go watch a weeks worth of Glendora practices and then go back home and do exactly what they do! It's no fluke that they do well year in and year out... their program works! Congradulations to Glendora! Wilson, on the other hand, is really going backward. Last year Tim Gilmore was the $hit! He could go for 200 yards almost at will. Somehow, this season, Wilson scores one touchdown and and they're done??? I don't know their new coach, but what ever he has changed - he needs to change it back! It's not working dude! Wilson is a fantastic school full of great kids and good players and it's a shame to watch such a program go down hill so quickly.
All the waiting is over! South Hills vs. Rosemead and the Smudge Pot is here! South Hill may very well win tonight, but I hope they don't go into the game thinking Rosemead is a push over. Rosemead is legit! I picked Rosemead +3, but one thing I know for almost certain - Rosemead and San Dimas are on a collision course in the playoffs!
Trojan Man you MUST have been that big lineman everyone hated before games...you know the type...YELLING and BANGING THEIR HEADS ON THE LOCKERS...just to get attention.
SHUT UP OR SHOW UP?
It's PUT UP OR SHUT UP!...dumb linemen.
SHOW UP OR SHUT UP !
FIGHT ON

After a sluggish first half the Tartans dominated. Kaluzny was awesome. His TD run was brillant and he shows poise in the pocket. Where did Bankhead come from. Stockham can be a big go-to guy.
Defensivley this was the best game of the year. Young and Meraz had strong performances.
Last year they were 3-2 going in to league and I think overall the league is a little down from last year. Could it be another 8-2 finish??
