Saturday Morning Quarterback: San Dimas wins Smudge; South Hills slips past Rosemead; Bishop Amat, West Covina, Rowland, and Charter Oak win

Friday's results
San Dimas 50, Bonita 33 -- Don't tell me the Saints can't play with the big boys, not after watching Nico Barbone rush for 201 yards and five touchdowns, and Daniel Joseph rush for 219 yards and two touchdowns. They rushed for 454 yards in all. Damn, that's impressive.
Bishop Amat 17, Diamond Ranch 6-- It would be easy to talk about the Lancers again, but what does this say about Diamond Ranch? I know they're 1-4, but they hung when West Covina and Damien couldn't. Next week, Charter Oak.
South Hills 14, Rosemead 10 -- Huskies trailed 10-7 at half. My cousin Mike was at the game and said he thought the Panthers outplayed them. Then again, he grew up Rosemead. Sumler, though, is the real deal, finishing with 138 yards on 27 carries. Deen got sacked four times.
Charter Oak 35, Etiwanda 32 -- Add this to the list of big-time wins for the Chargers. When you play Rancho Cucamonga and Etiwanda on the road and come home without losses, that's saying something.
La Serna 21, Los Altos 6 -- The rest of the schedule doesn't look good for the Conq's, who could be 0-9 by the time they meet rival Wilson at the end of the year.
Walnut 47, Sonora 13 -- Is this impressive or what? Leonard Rhodes ran for four or five touchdowns as the Mustangs improved to 4-1.
West Covina 35, Diamond Bar 25 -- This was close for most of the game. We knew the Brahmas were improved, just not improved enough.
South El Monte 35, Alhambra 7 -- I wonder what the coaches said during the week to inspire this Eagles defense. Finally, a great job on both sides of the ball.
Azusa 36, Sierra Vista 3-- Obviously the Aztecs are serious about winning the Montview League title. Mark Oct. 24th down, that's when they face Duarte.
Northview 40, Nogales 7 -- Not a surprise, the Vikings' only losses have come against two good teams.
Duarte 34, Gladstone 16 -- A much closer game than I expected. But then again, these two don't like each other very much, so it shouldn't be a huge surprise it was competitive.
Workman 20, La Puente 14-- I keep talking about Azusa and Duarte, but what about the Lobos. They quietly continue to win, improving to 2-0 in Montview.
Rowland 21, Baldwin Park 0 -- The Braves were down to their fourth-string quarterback, so an easy and expected win for the Raiders.
La Canada 28, Arroyo 0 -- Something's wrong in Arroyoland when you start getting shutout by La Canada.

Saturday's game and prediction

Here we go again. It's not enough that we are winning now but because we did not blow out DR the doubts start coming in.I personally don't care if we beat all of our opponents in league or the rest of the preseason games each by 1 point they will still be wins. As for the DR game we won and our defense played great. The offense did show signs that they had been off 2 weeks but that was to be expected . Now for DR I give them all the respect in the world. They came ready to play and were well prepared. As far as I am concerned they should be further up in the rankings but that's another issue. You could tell the diffence between them and the other 2 teams we played from the SGV. DR projected the feeling they could hang with us and did while the other opponents knew they were in over their heads and it showed.

King Stud

The race is over and Mccain is getting rocked by the economy.

Deal with it, there a new King Stud going to the white house and its not your old boy McCain

St Francis may have a good record this time arround, but if Amat does not win the game going away, then they will surly have allot of problems in league this year.

Let's look at the fact's here. Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola are teams (this year) that are head and shoulders above most of the schools in St Francis' league.

In fact, just to show you what I mean, look at what Loyola did to Hart last Saturday night.

Loyola absolutly distroyed Hart, and Hart is always a very tough foothill league team.

So if Amat can't win easily against a St Francis team that has a better record than what the true reflection of it's strength is, then yes, I will come away very much worried come league play.

hey corona are you the democrat donk supporting obama? man i hope not. btw did the local car wash get all that crap off your car put in there by someone at the Damien game? lol

And to the moron telling me to stop blogging you can kiss my a$$. if you dont like it dont read it.

Joe
why do you agree with corona? come on you seem smarter than that. You have to admit joe that your amat boys played down to the ranch. Barring that PI amat might have been in a world of hurt. Gaise seems like a good player but Amat is going to have to step its game up this week and the rest of the season to hang with the big boys.

With Out Josh Yu, and Steven Garcia. Mat Morales and the Walnut Waterpolo team step it up. Beating Sonora. 18 to 16. In OT. Great game

Casablanca Joe..... Casablanca!

Must be fun this year for you.....finally.

Maybe some day I'll enjoy the same kind of satisfaction here.

Enjoy the season my friend.

My Friend,

We are agreeing. Starting to get scary - isn't it? And I'll take a 97.5% anytime... that's an "A" on anybodies scale - and you were far more correct than the 50% you gave yourself credit for. I'll repost a couple of statements that are right in step with what you just wrote... percentages aside :?)

"...*DR kept fighting* and the Lancers allowed them to hang around.....

"...They coulda thought "Here we go again". But that didn't happen and DR was tough...."

and

"...To say that Amat took DR lightly would be to discredit the great effort and preparation on the Panthers part...."

Anyone predicting a blowout was either wishful thinking, buying into hype, or hadn't spent much time watching DR play. They are good. I hope the scheduling gamble pays off. As I've said - their pre-season schedule is tougher *for them* than ours is *for us*. Good luck to them.

And I hope we're sharper against St Francis... they're pretty darn good too!

Enjoy the desert.

CO Bro..

"truly grown adult and success stories wouldn't waste their time on this blog"

.....would that include you?

ouch.

I can live with that. Seems pretty good on 95% of your logic and points. Reminds me of the car wash. Every time I get my car washed and waxwd I fill up the car AFTER. Why? To wipe off the dripping water that's in the seams. Still the guys tell me they'll fill it up. I did that once and when I got home the car looked like a streak machine, So let's deal with the streaks.

Joe IF it wasn't Amat and say Mater Dei. And a 1-4 Damien team played the Monarchs to a 4 point game with 5:38 left in the game wouldn't we be calling that a great effort and not allude to anyone's (both teams) rust?

Now imagine that team NOT being D2 Damien and INSTEAD 1-3 Los Altos. Same call?

Amat plays a 1-3 D5 school and gets banged on harder than some other local yocals and somehow that 5% becomes suspect. Amat no more let DR hang around than I have a full head of hair. DR STUCK around. If the INT is allowed to stand and DR with momentum shifting wins the game. What would anyone have said? Amat blew it.

NO arguing your well based points Joe but when Buster Douglass beat Mike Tyson...Mike Tyson put Buster down...only to get knocked out after Buster "benefitted" from a long count. (I'll give Tyson some love) Buster still had to finish the job.

In this game. DR refused to get blown out...ON THE SCOREBOARD..bend but don't break so to speak.

But Amat put them away like Tyson couldn't. Also to carry the Buster point further...Buster got punked by Evander in his next fight...still doesn't diminish Buster's night. So whatever happens with CO will not take away from DR nor prove an OFF NIGHT by Amat.

Make no mistake. Amat came to crush and win. They did half the job. St. Francis will really pay the price for DR's Buster like performance.

But I really do see that if I'm half right you're still 97.5 % right,,,and no one's perfect. Joey knowing the ref's by their first name...wow. I'm freakin impressed. ;-)

Enjoyed your analysis.

Best of luck my friend. I'm off to see Arizona colleges so no games for me this week.

WOW - SOTO WHO? I guess you weren't a player, knew how to be a teammate or know anything about CO Football. Jealousy rears it's ugly head once again..... Hey I would bet that the 90% would be good not bad and once again, only the squeekers are heard the loudest. Best part is that truly grown adults and successful stories from CO football....wouldn't waste their time in a blog.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda - DID.

I still think that's what this "Post-Game" entry should be called. So lets talk about some of those.

My Friend, 72, The Shining, KS and others,

As was mentioned by someone earlier - I didn't ever feel that, even though the score was close, the game was in question. It was clear who was in control. I kind of had the same feeling after the 1st quarter in the Coliseum on Saturday at the 'SC/AzSt game (went with an associate -bad tickets... felt like me and the blimp, but what the heck... GREAT day for football)
So USC didn't put many points on the board after the initial flurry - but it was obvious who controlled the game throughout. Same kind of Friday night feeling.

But I digress. To say that Amat took DR lightly would be to discredit the great effort and preparation on the Panthers part. I do think that it was a hard fought, emotional, and competitive game (as My Friend said) that took place between two pretty good teams in their divisions - that happened to come after BOTH teams had two weeks off. I think that led to the somewhat "out of sync" play that occurred on both sides (as KS mentioned).

High Intensity and a long layoff is not a great recipe for a "well-played" game. Watching the TiVo on Sunday AM, Hags even alluded to that in the locker room when he sayed the guys looked like they were ready "to pop" and tried to get them to relax. On the other side DR's offense sputtered at best, save for the 1 great drive in the 3rd quarter. Take away that ONE drive and DR had UNDER SIXTY yds of total offense. Amat missed opportunities because of penalties - negating several big plays that could have put the game away. Some of those were a result of DR being pretty darn good!

Officials! Wow. They are bad on Sundays, worse on Saturdays and absolutely awful on Fridays. A couple of those penalties (on both sides) came out of the blue - but the pass interference was right on after seeing the replay. The receiver was clearly hit before the ball got there. Not even close. But in all honesty Gordon (the old guy that was the head official) tried to talk the young guys into the PI - he lost that one! IMO he was the worst of the bunch and pulled a couple flags outta his @$$... but that's just me. The PI was like one of those "bang-bang" plays at first in baseball when you say "there's NO WAY he was out" only to see the replay when the umpire got it absolutely right. I AM amazed at how often baseball umpires get that one right. As opposed to the strike zone (did you see the plate ump at the Dodger game? My gosh - AWFUL!)

I did happen to also see a couple of those penalties mentioned that were "out of desperation" when getting beat. Those DR guys are good - as those who came on here said - no surprises for sure. And I also saw some that were a result of being slow off the ball and not sharp from the layoff. It's not just the time off - it's not being in full pads , allowed to hit, and remain competitive during the first week of that time. Layoffs tend to hurt the parts of the game that require schemes, execution, timing, etc far more than the parts of the game that require intensity and effort
(read **defense has the advantage in this one**

DR kept fighting and the Lancers allowed them to hang around. It is just as possible that a score or two breaks a teams will - especially a team that has played a great schedule, played well - yet still came up on the short end of the scoreboard in some previous games. They coulda thought "Here we go again". But that didn't happen and DR was tough. Props to them - I hope (I'm pretty sure) that Layton keeps them focused and positive getting them ready for league at 1-4. They are definitely ready... if the kids believe they are.

And sgvfootballfan-*Choosing* to attend a school in the 9th grade is a different issue than a transfer. CIF allows any 9th grader to attend any school (public or private) and have immediate residential eligibility. *Transfers* are those who go to one school then *leave* to go somewhere else and eligibility is restricted until certain conditions are met. But DR now knows about that.

You are right - MANY players from that area have chosen to come to Amat in the past... and that trend slowed for a bit as the program was perceived to have struggled. That is changing and actually I look for the Lancers to continue to get more and more players from that region in the future, especially if they take care of business against the Panthers next year.

SGVfootballfan,

Tell me that after CO takes you to the woodshed and cracks your so called talented team Diamond Ranch. Watched the game on Fox and Amat looked off their game. Dranch has no passing game. You will be in for a long nite come Friday. Go CO Chargers!

How about the crowds that BOOed Mc Cain for trying to reign in the lynching mob, i mean political supporters, after he said..."This campaign will be run with integrity." BOOOOOOOs "Barack is good man who loves his country." LODER BOOOOOs. "He is a good Chritian man" LOUSEDET BOOOOOs...."now now now....we will run and AGRESSIVE CAMPAIGN" loud cheers!!!!

Simply too disgusting for words!

Somewhere the screams of Selma are ringing loud and clear. Where is George Wallace when you need him? Bring the German Shepards...they is trying to get the WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!

Who can't trust Guliani?

Answer: his wife!

Who has moral authority on these matters of judgment?

Answer: his mistress. Who Rudy moved into the Governor's Mansion while he was still married. Nice.

I'll stick to someone who isn't a sleaze ball.

Cali Dump...isn't that the same thing that can be said of the Republican led Congress for the last 20 years? Remember the Contract with America.

Did anyone go to college here? Oh that's right the new in vogue thing is to MOCK education. NOW THAT'S STUPID!

Harvard educated.....JEW LOVER!

Barrack HUSSIEN Obama.....TERRORISTS!

Accountability.....LIBERAL

The Republicans always complain about growing goverment and keeping the free markets free and then give 1 TRILLION DOLLARS of TAX PAYER MONEY TO THE RICHEST OF THE RICH! And expand the power of the Treasury and get into the Banking business.

I call that hypocrites...that's code for "do as I say and not as I do".

Mc cain is our man. see him slllooowwlllyy pull that microphine away from that grandmother who called Obama an......"ARAB!"

What about the crowds that yell.."TERROROST......HANG HIM.......KILL HIMMM!!!" after getting EGGED ON by Sarah Palin and Co.

Who is Barack Obama....(whisper)...he's BLACK!!!!!"

Mc Cain sold his soul.

get real panthers
The only transfers are all the kids going to BA.Bonilla and Sermons grew up and always lived in Diamond Bar. Many great players over the years that that have played for BA have come from Diamond Bar.But if they want to come back home and play then their Transfers.I don't think so.BA get used to kids from Diamond Bar staying at Home and playing football with their friends and getting a good education at a California distinguished school.Diamond Ranch Panthers.

Guilani said it best when he said " What has Obama ever led?" The answer NOT A DAMN THING. His only experience in internation affairs is one time when he took his family to breakfast at the international house of pancakes!

SPECIFIC

Posting Obamas resume here isn't possible and you can't get to much more specific than that.

California is a fine example of why not to vote Democrat.
The state is broke and you cant blame Republicans for that fiasco. The Dem's have run this dump for mor than Twenty years. The voters here are so stupid their dear Arnold gave them the propositions to clean this mess up and what do the idiot voters do side with big unions and lobbyist in Sacramento and voted them all down.
California is a dump led by Democrat voters who dont know any better.

Ozzie the Political Scientist!

Is that too professorial for you?

Specific half truths, lies and assertions.

S.P.E.C.I.F.I.C.

Did you even go to college?

Everytime I see these Obamites yepping and hollering over nothing becaue he will have no money to dish out his hand outs it reminds me of the Wizard of Oz and the midget army that guarded the wicked witches castle.
Walkng in lock step going

YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH
YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH
YO DEE OH AH YOOOOOO OHH

thanks 72 fan. i haven't seen co play, therefore, i don't have a prediction. i now know that dr is a good, physical team that has played other good, physical teams. sounds like co is good as well with several really good athletes. it's going to be interesting to see what happens in that one.

My traner is a former Charter Oak alum. When I asked him once about Coach Lou his face light up. YOU KNOW COACH LOU? I told him I just admired his sense of family. He said "that's it! It's all about family with Coach." I asked him what made him special. He said it was everything. He still talks to his former CO coaches and is a big CO fan. Nothing negative about him at all. When I asked him about the negative talk about Coach Lou he looked perplexed..."what negative talk?"

Joey HOMO,

It's painfully obvious that you hold an old grudge against Big Lou for not playing you or for kicking you a$$ for 4 yrs. It is also obvious that you know nothing about the CO FAMILY, your a bitter little boy who needs a good old fashioned A$$ KICKING. I love your 80% of former players feel used, do you hold ex-CO I feel used Rally's and take a poll. Your a PUNK that runs the same old tired crap about the Farrar's every time come out of your hole. Swing the game this week and say hello.

Please the floor is yours:

Half truths?

Plain old lies?

Uneducated Rants?

Be specific. I know that's tough to do in an election year but give it a GUYS AND GALS whirl...will ya?

72.

Thanks for the football talk. Amat will get better. Gaise is something else. Johnson is exceptional and getting better. This team could be remembered as the team that started the next great Amat run. Great to see Alberico #91, a former Damien student, starting for the Lancers. Great kid, outstanding family. Bets of luck to him.

Charter Oak vs. Diamond Ranch will be epic! I'll be visiting colleges in Arizona and will unfortunately miss that game and the Sierra League opener.

So for once I'll have to count on others eyes to give me a sense of the games.

Best of luck my friend.

How do you like in the CO/DR game?

Lip Stick Homey thanks for reminding me that although I don't like John McCain my vote for him is the right thing to do after seeing that uneducated tirade with half truths and just plain old lies. Becareful for what you rant for.

This is Peggyy and I will not SUE!

final say
we agree on so many points. thank you for the responses. i guess we will never know the answers to great questions. i will say finally that dr played a great game and have absolutely no reason to hold their heads down. good luck this week. i would caution though, as i did when amat beat ol, there is sometimes a natural let down following a week where you've given seemingly everything. i hope this doesn't happen to dr as i am becoming a fan of theirs.

Obama for preisdent...isn't the Middle East already in turmoil? Any chance anyone knows how many civilians have been killed by US hands? What about the massive destruction of Iraq'a infacstructire? Schools, Roads, Dams, Water supply, Electicity, Universities? Who needs them when you're Nation Building?

Isn't the economy in shambles already?

Gov. Teminator just asked for a State bailout to the tune of $700,000,000 that's 700 Million!...will that worsen with Obama?

How about the Wold Banks...will they worsen with Obama?

Let's say they do? Who got us in this mess in the first place?

1 1/2 years of a Democratic Congress?

Really?

I'm voting for Mc Cain myself. I like train wrecks. I'm a train wreck You Tube junkie. Besides my momey is in red ink....PAST DUE Notices will keep me in millions! LOL You heard it here first!!! RED INK ..it's better than Gold.

God I love this country!

Bogan Friend learn how to spell. I am sure Bogan does not hang ot with people who cannot spell so stop with the friend cra-. Go ahead and sue me now.

Lets see here 0-1 vs the Inland Empire.
1-0 vs the OC AND
3-0 VS The SGV.

4-1 Not a bad start for BA. Diamond Ranch great game could have swung either way but the bottom line is Scoreboard and Amat gets the win and you cannot change that. Make excuses but the fact that you could not score for most of the game you DR fans should give some credit to that Amat Defense. The CO game will tell alot about your team. If it comes out and defeats CO then that BA game you were a legit solid team. If you lay another close to Golden Egg again to CO then you are not as good as you think and it will be true Amat had a off nite Offensively. Time will tell. As for Amat they either step it up because St. Francis is a good team or they let this DR game Shake their confindence and lose this one. Again time will tell. Dranch by the way your coaching staff is pretty good as well. Never liked CO after the defacing of our field a few years back so I am pulling for you Dranch. Amat:Time to turn it up men and we will our coaching staff is too good to let us play like that again.

HEY FRED,,,you should do something about the blgs here on the prep blgs re;coach bogan...they are rude & uncalled for.and not only untrue but are a reason for a lawsuite,,,,.a lawer may go as far as to supena these blgs .just some advise fred .please try to supervise your blgs closer in the future.FROM A BOGAN FREIND.

watch the middle east explode when obama gets in office. Obama is going to make our worst president jimmy carter look good if he wins. becareful what you wish for.

Let's see Sarah Palin. 5 schools in 5 years with a degree in journalism. Let's see to qoute Sarah...'Being a journalist is like being a writer except no one uses "books" to line their bird cages with!"....or put lickstick on them...hhahhahahahhah...or something funny. AIRHEAD!!!!

On the other hand. Obama gradiuated from Columbia after starting out at Occidental, and taught at Harvard after getting his Law degree and making his mark on campus with the best and the brightest in the country. Just like white supremist heavy Idaho University. Same difference Harvard...ummmm Idaho! Accetance rate at Harvard less than 6 % Accepatnce rate at Idaho...98%. Very Comparable! Jurist Doctrate.....B. A. Let's see....Rio Hondo vs. Stanford.....same, same.

Sarah Palin back stabbed her way to the mayor's office, took back door deals from the Republican Party who pegged her as "up and coming" ...that's "I'll do and say anything to get ahead!"...in political circles. Spent ear mark money like it was crack and built a Road To No Where after TRYING to build a Bridge to No Where"...and then denying any involvment in spite of memos and audio to the contrary.

I do give her props for her Family Values. Date my sister and break her heart..."Guilty of "Abuse of Power and Undue Influence" and several other civil rights charges that will soon surface. Hey SIS I GOT YOUR BACK!!!!

Obama, lets' see part of the Annenburg Group ...oh no not THAT REPUBLICAN DONOR based org.?

Is Annenburg a terrorists too?

Obama was a community organizer....oh nooooo baddddd thing. Martin Luther King was a community organizer, so was Ghandi, and so were the Fathers Of Our Republic...Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, ect. Matter of fact so was Sarah Palin.....that's code for grass roots movements. Groud up stuff like Civil Rights, Women's Rights, Voter Rights, Aids Walk. you know like those pretty PINK bows you see everywhere. Someone STARTED that at teh GRASS ROOTS LEVEL...i.e. Community Organizers.

Oh and how about that Ryan White kid...was he not a world community Oragnizer???? Mandela??? Aparthied Good?...Community Organizer Bad?

Sarah Palin doesn't read newspapers, George Bush didn't have cable hook ups at his Ranch in Crawford Tx. Can you say...Dumb and Dumber. No wonder he thinks the "FUNDAMENTALS ARE GOOD!"...are they STILL good? Let's see George W. will leave this country in two wars...the worst housing market in history....the worst economy in history....world banks in total free fall...states with no money....habius corpus in tatters....deregulation of every financial entity that glues the economy together...a total break down of every facet of the America Dream and facing that monumental world crisis you want to say Sarah Palin is qualified to be the President of the United States Of America in case Senior John gets cancer again for the 5x? Tell me you're not that lock step minded.

Obama's wife is a Lawyer in her own write with a Ivy League education. Sarah Palin's daughter is a hoochie. ...I mean a model for LIFE! But still a hoochie! were is the Moral Majority when you need them? and husband is a ...what exactly does he do other than make babies, ride his swife's coat tails and rent winter recreation gear. You know like the guy at the local Sport's Chalet.

John Mc Cain incites racial tensions...Sarah Palin is the Bull Horn with Lip Stick....GUYS AND GALS?????? Who talks like that!?

Clearly Sarah Palin is qualified. To dance around a brass poll and shake that money maker and scream...Dollah Bills Y' allll!!!!!

My name ARE YOU NUTS? and I approved this ad.

Shame on you for all the nasty things said about "Big Lou" and staff.
We have had 3 sons, and 3 grandsons play football at CO and the ones that played under "Big Lou" have been vey good students, athletes, and good citizens in general.
What a shame to make a joke of the fact that the Farrar family are close and live near each other. In this day and age when there are so many fractured families the ones that stay intact and have extended family relationships live this way. Nothing wrong with having a loving, good relationship with your parents, grandparents, and siblings.

Amat vs DR

The difference between this yrs Amat team & last (2) yrs, is that this yrs team found a way to pull this one out ! Last yr Amat would have found away to let this one get away like many games the last 2 yrs. Coaching makes a big difference. Props to DRanch for coming to play !!!

What a terrible blog. High school football and all others sports and activities one participates in high school is very important to being a well rounded student.
I take offense as I'm sure many people will at your terrible attack of Coach Farrar and staff. As a parent of boys who have played for CO I do not agree with your assessment.
Big Lou is interested in what they do academically and socially and he does not wash his hands of the seniors. Coach Dom stays in close contact with all the boys on a daily basis, and I know the boys think very highly of J.P,Lehigh ,Coach Smith.
I have heard Coach Farrar speak at a former players funeral and he was very emotional and had good words for him and other players on that particular team.
I think maybe some bitter parents or players may not respect the staff, but for the most part the majority feel very good about the concern and teaching that goes into CO's program

Will someone wake me up when King Stud and the SGV Scouting Guru are through with their babble of nothing. On one hand you have this self promoting blowhard and on the other hand you have well shall I say just a blowhard.

get real panthers...

And your going to tell me Obama is qualified. Poor Rosemead they still dont teach you guys anything.

I read these "blogs" and have to smile. If I were to tell you that "winning and losing" was irrelevant, you would tell me that I was "crazy". Well, call me crazy. I will admit that if a team, in any sport, is not out to win...then there is certainly is a problem. Coaches will tell you that getting a "W" will "right any sinking ship"...but..at what costs do you get the "W"? I believe that "modern day" coaching staffs will do ANYTHING to get that "W". Case in point. I have been priveldged to know many of the young men who played football for Charter Oak HIgh School. What "saddens' me is to hear the "negative" talk about the coaching staff at that school. To this day, I still "think the world" of my high school coaches. Each and everyone of them helped make me what I am today. I still see them and speak to many of them on occasion. The players from CO feel that they were "used". Once they were seniors and of no use to Farrar and his staff, that was it. I believe if you were to take a "poll" of CO football players over the past 10 or 12 years you would be "shocked" to hear what the results would be. I think that 80% or better would not have any respect for Farrar-Farrar-Lehigh!
Farrar speaks of "Family"...what it really means is the "Family" that has eligibility...becuase after that..you are an orphan! L.Farrar it's time toD Farrar..."get a life...living right next door to mommy and daddy?"...R. Lehigh..."you moved down the street from the Farrars?" You're not a staff...you're a cult! What I am trying to say is this...it's human nature to want to be a winner...it's human nature to support a program...not to mention it's healthy...If I were coaching, I too would want to win...but...I would want my team members to win as well...I would want them to respect me and know that I what I taught them was how to win at the "big game"...life! Shame on the CO coaches and shame on that staff...you need to retire...hey...thy can name the field...Farrar Stadium!

get real panthers...is this why republicans convince themselves that sarah palin is qualified. wow that was a great argument for NOT drinking the lkue and gold kool aid.

10-6 means what exactly to you?

yup you were never in danger of losing to a division 5 school..

if bassett takes you down to 3 points at the 2:00 mark and the yardage disparity is 500 yards to 56 is that a close game given the score?

too bad you're not learning from your close win. the serra league might change your mind.

either way great game lancers.

long live the king

You Diamond Ranch fans need a dose of reality. Even though the scoreboard was close, you guys were statistically dominated. Your entire offense could only put up 146 yards FOR THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Most of which came on ONE SERIES. Bishop's running back ran for 145 yards himself. What does that tell you? Please do not dishonor yourselves by ignoring this fact or saying things like "we should have won" and even the more stupid "We got homered."

Bishop played a sloppy game and that was it. This is the ONLY reason why the score stayed close. How many big plays were called back because of penalties? Did you even watch the game?

The Bishop bloggers on here give Diamond Ranch credit for a hard fought game and what do Diamond Ranch fans do? Do they return the favor and shake hands? NOPE They whine and complain about this and that. How unsportsmanlike. How embarrassing for the Panthers.

And one more thing, Sermons and Bonilla, two of the BEST players on Diamond Ranch's team are BISHOP AMAT TRANSFERS!

Fred
I was very proud of my son and the rest of the kids against BA Friday night. As BA left the field at half time they looked very tired and concerned that this game seemed to be turning in our favor. After our 21 play drive and score to make it 10-6 in the fourth Qtr BA seemed out of gas and on fourth down and six they caught a lucky break on a very close pass interference call against our defence. It could have gone either way but it worked out for them and they scored on the next play as it seemed that our kids were still stunned by the last penalty call. I think our kids showed that they are coming together as a team and are ready for League play starting this Friday .
I think our schedule shows that even though we are 1-4 we are still one of the top teams in the area. The teams we have played and lost to have a combined record of 18 wins and 2 loses.

1.Muir 4-1
2.Oaks Christian 5-0
3.Chino hills 5-0
4.Bishop Amat 4-1

Muirs only lose was to Oaks Christian and Amats loss was to Los Osos who is 4-1 and their only lose was to Vista Murrieta who is 5-0.I think were in some good company and this schedule is getting us ready for a tough Miramonte league race.Continue playing hard Panthers and good things will come your way.

who are you jonny cockran?

Trojan Man

The problem with James, is he runs his mouth way to much. But in any event, if your a real professional, do you air this on a blog?

This part of the process should be left up to the parents and the student. James, you have no right to be discussing persoanl situtions. Is that really your job? Do you represent the kid or have you be given the contract to do so? I would be very careful how you proceed, and watch what you say.

72 I agree with what you're saying. Completely and without reservation.
I also think that 10-6 at home with 5:39 to go with 2 weeks to prepare is not a function of anything but your opponents effort and preparedness.

Like Stanford beating USC last year. USC is a better team. Bishop Amat is the better team. Stanford couldn't duplicate that performance could they? We'll never know. You would concede wouldn't you that the same could be said about DR...we'll never know.

The rest is idle talk for bloggers to chew on. I never liked telling a team that stood with me down to the wire that "we" were sloppy. I always gave credit where credit was due. I guess that's my point.

Amat actually played very well. Only problem I saw was the other team didn't run and hide and actually never thought they were going to lose. Is getting 3 4th down conversions in a row a function of being sloppy by Amat or execution by DR ? Was DR sloppy given their 2 week layoff? I saw no rust in them. Why?

Just remember that Amat came back in great fashion against O Lu. That may have given Amat a boost of confidence. Beating the Bulldogs and the Spartans handily gave them more confidence.

My question to you is:

Did the DR game give the Lancers more confidence or did it give the Serra League coaches more confidence.

Both teams, DR and BA, will have a tough week of practice. Let's see how things shake out. Thta's the fun of talking sports...you never know.

Good luck to the Lancers and to the Panthers. Remember the best Rocky movie was the first....Rocky LOST! And everyone agrees it was the best one of the 7 Rocky films. People love an underdog who doesn't quit.

What kind of comment is this..

Definitely crossing the line

"As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true."

WHO ARE YOU ?

If indeed you consider yorself a "GURU" why in the heck are you scouting for a rag like the SGV Tribune . Get a REAL gig & leave our Panthers ALONE ! Tre is a nice young man, NOT PERFECT . But committed to playing ball , and his T E A M ! Bottom line is he DOES do well enough in the classroom to participate .

FIGHT ON

TM

It's funny on what the haters have to hang their hats on.

At first, it was simply, Amat sucks.

Then, it was that they would go 3-7 at best, if that.

Then it became an issue about them getting beat badly by OL or by one of the local teams. And that Amat could'nt compete in the Serra league.

Then it was, "CO" and the others will be playing late into the season, and Amat will surly not get into the playoffs.

Now it's, ya, you might get to the playoffs, but you guys are going to get wiped out once you there.

It just keeps going and going, so, I wonder what's up next ?

Hum...

Reality Check...
I still remember one of your great quotes..."it's all about the post season." Amat will not make the playoffs! Reality Bites!

in my opinion
holding does happen when you're getting beaten. holding also happens as a function of poor technique on a particular play. and holding happens on virtually every play in football. i give dr all the credit in the world for playing well and causing some amat's sloppiness. what i will, however, tell you is that this was easily amat's worst game and i've seen all of them. i still think amat was the better team. i don't know if dr works with moral victories but they got one friday night. if they played again, i don't know that dr would be as fortunate. that great staff you mention repeatedly would certainly eliminate those mistakes, wouldn't they? i think so too. the only problem i have with your argument is that you have not once acknowledged the fact that statistically amat dominated the game nor do you mention the possibilities that would have existed had those penalties not been called. personally, i believe dr played as well as it could and amat underperformed.

The quote below is definitely crossing the line of professionalism

"As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true."

My2Cents ! CMON You can not let calls like a block in th back and a clip go un-noticed like that especially when the foul is at the point of contact "very noticeable" Plus diamond bar was called for mostly Delay of games. how can u run a no huddle offense and have so many delay of games. I would look at the head coach of DB he seemed to be playing the refs at the beginning of the game. Refs tend to not like that.

FC and King Stud

Both of you need to lighten up a bit. You're animosity towards each other is very sad.

On the one hand, you have a mixed up (out of the closet donkey) blogger who hates everything about anyone (excluding Donkeys of course), and has a real hatred for this FC guy.

You really like to rattle FC's dingle balls every chance you get, and let me tell you, that you don't miss a step.

Then, on the other hand, you have the other fool FC, who is always on this blog constantly jibber jabbing and just can't shut the hell up.

You both go on and on with you're little war's, and it get real old when you two bang on each other all the time.

It's almost a daily exercise with you two.

Let it go, please let it go.

Game "I" saw. As in my own two eyes.
As far as anything else goes. Look me up. I still think our conversation is better in person. Damien vs. Chino Hills was two Div 2 schools playing up to their ability. League competition. As far as any comments atributed to you...how would anyone know? You are the Master Blaster of Spew. Why get so upset my friend. It's all entertainment. I think you're taking this blog thing too seriously. It's just fun waste paper bag talk. Why so mad. It's not like I called you a derogatory name. Besides I'm sure you're very secure in your masculinity seeing as you're always so up front about your school, your name or your anything. And never would hide from meeting me in person to talk sports. Relax my friend and take a Prosac...I'll save you a seat at the Anger AMagement classes I attend. You know they really work. And Sally Field said HI. Come on my friend "It's just a blog!" Relax why would you care what I say? Have fun being you and let others be them. I thought you were well on your way to being Amat's new friend...relax they still love you. Enjoy the blog and ley others be themselves. Isn't that what the Good Book tells us. God bless you my friend. Find peace in your heart and stop being such a little man.

FRANK CORONA NEVER CEASES TO AMUSE ME

Where did I ever use a gay reference or call you broke back mountain? Guilty conscience? Go back and find those comments associated with me and my name. You fail to realize franky my boy that more than one people comment on your comments. Let me repeat that incase you are hard of hearing. You fail to realize franky my boy that more than one people comment on your comments. Are we clear?

As far as this being the best game in 6 years not even close. Hell Amat's comeback again OL this year down 24 point blows this game away. Also since your a Damien honk how about the chino hills game in which the Spartans won on the last play? I would bet there are other games out there that surpassing this one easily. Any fans recall any?

"Again that's my opinion. I could be wrong but I doubt it."

You actually are dead wrong but keep those comments coming. BTW you should go back to the Moron Machine name. Your writing style is obvious but its a fitting name.

CO vs DR GAME OF THE WEEK !!!!

Enough said

CO vs DR GAME OF THE WEEK !!!!

Enough said

walnut good luck during the season but wait til you get to league to talk. Honestly i think you will be blown away though when you see your league. Dont talk unless you win friday. You were all over South Hills claiming how good they are but i really think the teams youre going to have trouble with is West co and Rowland. They play tough. they are not softies. i think rhodes and King are going to have trouble running against that rowland defense. I have saw some film on them. They Swarm the ball like a golden hawk team i remember from a year ago. This Friday is your first test though. Well See?

Some of you have asked my opinion on some of the games Friday night...so here it is.

Diamond Ranch vs. Bishop Amat - I will be reviewing the tape again but my first impressions are the same that I said on ESPN radio Friday night. I expected more out of the BA and came away a little disappointed. I didn't see all the explosive plays that I saw in the OLuth, WC or Damien games. To be honest, I thought BA's looked very flat. But, that could have been from the bye week. But, Hegarty sure didn't look happy on TV after the game and that spoke volumes.

Some of that is due to the outstanding defense that DR played. I came away from the game with the feeling that #54 Kyle Lengyel was the best defensive player on the field. He was just all over the place making plays. He's a first team all-CIF player without question. And Brandon Sermons will be just fine at the D-1 level. He'll be a tremendous Free Safety

If DR can just develop a passing game, they can make a nice run in the playoffs. Plus, way too many penalties and that will not work against Charter Oak next week.

South Hills vs. Rosemead - I have watched the coaches tape twice and I must tell you that Rosemead played the game of their lives. That should be the ultimate complement to SH. They played SH really tough, but SH took their best shot. If anyone of you were at the game, I would love to here your thoughts on the game clinching interception by Ify Umodu. That was one of the best INT's I've seen on tape in sometime.

One thing to keep in mind with Rosemead, with the exception of the Harvard-Westlake game (and you don't count that because of all the players that were missing that night) this was a team that had scored 30+ points against Covina, Monrovia and Temple City. Friday night, SH shut them down to 10 points. That should tell you that SH is playing some pretty darn good defense...and they are.

As for Tre' Sumler, I like the kid. Problem is, he has no grades to qualify for college and thus becomes a priority recruit for Citrus or Mt. SAC. It's unfortunate, but true.

Bonita vs. San Dimas - I had feeling SD might have a this type of games and they did. I will be reviewing the tape this week and giving my thoughts on Wednesday. But I am looking forward to watching them in person on Thursday against Covina.

Have a great week.

KING STUD YOU NEVER DISAPPOINT.

Instead of saying I disagree you say I'm talking out of my a-hole. Instead of saying the game was this or that you make it about brokeback mountain. Again with the gay references. Dude you really should temper those Gay jokes. The biggest closets are for those that talk the most. Just ask the holy rollers (priets and preachers) and sanctimonious amoungst us (senators and congressmen). History proves that point time and again. Gay bashers have issues that on hindsight everyone with half a brain could see.

Like I said I thought it was the best game I've seen in 6 years in the Valley. Hey that's my opinion. Division 5 up start takes Div 1 perrenial contender, with 5 former head coaches, former CIF POY, Former Division 1 players, former NFL players, numerous CIF Chamionships between them and the score is 10-6 with 5:38 to go in the 4th. Penalties and all?

Yeah I see your point. It's based on logic and reasoned thnking. Yeah right.

72 to say DR didn't have a chance is simplistic. I think Hags was referering to the constant ilegal procedure and too much time penalties that kept his team from sustaining momentum.

IF you played you'll agree HOLDING happens when you're getting BEAT! ( Or else WHY HOLD???) Clipping happens when you're being SLOPPY.( Clipping by definition is a STUPID PLAY on the part of any player) Ask a lineman, he'll tell you. Better yet ask Notre Dame vs. Colorado and the Rockets game winning kickoff that was called back negating the game winning go ahead TD.

Nuff said about the game in the context of naysayers.

Maybe CO beats the tar out of DR but that won't change what happened at Amat on Friday. Like I said before don't make it about anything other than what the kids from DR did on the field. Great game, to me, is when a team with no business being on the field with Amat, plays 10x better than a private school with better pedigree.

Now i understand the hate from others, maybe LA , SH or CO who don't nut up and play Amat, but why slight DR who does.

Next year maybe Amat destroys DR but again...it won't change this game one bit.

Special props to DB Johnson who drove full out and kept DR from scoring on that deep ball. ( Picture above shows what I'm talking about) I thought a double move beats him but he's got tremendous athletic no quit in him and saved the TD. Is anyone talking about the 21 play drive against Amat with 3, count them 3, 4th down conversions on that scoring drive! That was great gutsy coaching and great execution on DR's part.

When I think back to both teams last game. D1 Amat vs. D2 Damien and D2 Chino Hills vs. D5 DR THIS YEAR ( last year it was DR 42 Chino Hills 28 by the way) it makes you appreciate THIS game more. That's my point of reference.

So go ahead and drive by me and make stupid silly comments but that was a great game...IF you were there...and IF you had ANY SENSE. IF Amat thinks they were just sloppy then the Lancers will not make the playoffs, in my opinion, because they will have learned nothing from what DR did to them. Again that's my opinion. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Good teams learn from their loses. Great teams learn from their close calls. Friday Night Lights @ Bishop Amat was a close call.

In my opinion.

i was really impressed with dr's defense. but to say they should have won the game is a bit of a stretch. also, to one poster's point, the flag on the int did not come late, it was called as soon as it happened. i've said it before, amat played sloppily but i do believe some of that was due to dr's defense. i asked these two questions before and will ask again, 1) does dr keep the momentum and win if the interception is upheld? 2) does amat blow dr out if they don't have those plays called back or the litany of other penalties?

Best high school game you have seen since you have been in the valley? baa haa What game were you watching Frank? Obviously you have seen very few games if you consider that one the best. That was the one of the most sloppy games I have seen with the exception of Gaise who played well. Amat had 9 penalties and even Hags admitted it was a sloppy game. If Amat wants to win their league or win games to help them make the playoffs they are going to have to step up their game big time.

Handled them..?? Amats defense shut out DR for 3 quarters. 0006....I do not see DR playing close with CO. CO wipes them out. Amat had a off nite in the Scoring area but that defense is something special to watch....

High School Football

You said: "Every penalty was legit. The flags were thrown at the point of infraction...That's desparation." (what was that ???)

Then you say: "maybe if the INT was called right. No complaints or whining. Bad calls are part of the game."

Ok, bad calls are part of the game. The INT was a bad call you say ...but the other calls, they were ok, in you're mind ?

Look, when you try to sound objective, at least make the effort. You are begining to sound like the BA announcer. A homer all the way.

The funny thing is that I don't care very much for Amat, but I can see where someone is speaking out his a-hole.

Funny thing about the PA annoucer the girl from Fox Sports who was carying the handheld field mic the one mounted on the clear plastic dome with the mic in the center of it kept turning around and looking up at the press box just shaking her head. It was funny to watch because we all knew exactly what she was shakig her head about we were doing the same thing she asked my wife at halftime if he is always like that and we just laughed.

Reality check.

I won't start a bad discussion on DR's part or bring out the drive by artists but the score and several regulars silence tells the real story.

It's been my point all season long and my complaint for four years on this blog.

When a team, any team, conditions itself all year long, when the head coach lays out a vision for the team, the school, the coaches and teh commnuity as Dr's has, when a team buys into the sysytem and the parents buy into the methods of discipline, team work and HARD WORK...anything is possible.

DR is a team on a mission. They are 1-4 and have played one of the best preseason's in the valley, bar none. The end result of all that effort by everyone came into focus Friday.

The penalties that some Amat backers see as sloppy was desparation by players trying their best to limit the damage of DR's defensive onslaught. Every penalty was legit. The flags were thrown at the point of infraction and very EARLY in the play. That's desparation. Down the field it's a mistake and sloppy. KNow the difference.

Bonilla was beast! That's not trash talking. He's a stud of the biggest order. #54 played to his potential and can get better...NOW. Every DR defender played well.

Amat was never at an advantage in any offesive area. Bishop Amat played well. To say otherwise is to make excuses. Hags and Co. are professionals with a lot of pride. They are also very respectfull of DR's effort that night as exhibited by the classy kneeling down. But make no mistake they were trying to score until 38 seconds appeared on the board.

DR showed every team in the valley something Friday night. Amat players to a man will tell you they were tough and might have beat them...maybe if the INT was called right. No complaints or whining. Bad calls are part of the game. But which call went in DR's favor all night? Surely they weren't the IMMEDIATE holding calls.

What other area team honestly THINKs they can COMPETE with AMAT? That's being honest. Every other team thinks Amat is a monster to avoid. DR thinks THEY are a monster in the making.

Roddy it was an honor to see you guys bang the Big BOYS ON THE BLOCK. No one loses a game like that one on Friday. Mutual respect is when everyone plays to the best of teir ability. AMAT gave as good as TEHY took. The same can be said about DR.

Best high school game I've seen since I've been in the San Gabriel Valley. Yes better than the Mendrun Miracle.

handled them? the reality is the score did not indicate how one sided the game was. close-but never in doubt. Gaise had more yards from scrimmage all by himself than the entire Diamond Ranch team did and DR only had two plays longer than 10yds all night. even with that, Amat nearly doubled yds rushing, yds passing, and total yds.
Amat took a knee THREE times in the red-zone rather than scoring again. Would 24-6 sound different? they had at least 3 or 4 plays of 30+yds called back by penalties, each killing drives. that might have added at least another touchdown or two. 31-6? 38-6? that's about what it felt like.
that being said - DR IS talented and DR/CO is without a doubt the game of the week.

Hey Fred. Myabe you should start thinkning DR vs CO for game of the week? You saw how they handled BA.

I subscribe to the theory that good coaching wins games. One example is Culver City, they were once a bottom feeder and doormat until Salter took over the program. When Salter took over he changed the losing culture and instilled discipline.

Can you imagine DRanch potential if they had a coaching staff of Amat's caliber? They'd be 5-0 and be able to compete with PAC5 teams. I'm not taking anything away from Layton, but he's not ready to compete with big boy football.

Husky Hater,

It's one thing to criticize a team or organization, and it's another to make fun of a parent. That is the most unclassy thing to do. This forum is to express your thoughts on the school, team and/or a player. Taking a cheap shot to make fun of a players parent is just uncool. That is the move of a coward. I could say that you wouldn't have the guts to say it to his face or any other mans face. If so, there's a game at CDF this coming Friday and I'm pretty sure his dad will be there. If you can sack up a pair, why not tell him yourself. That's right, your probably a kid that doesn't know better and the set you have haven't dropped.

This notion that going to Amat game is like going to a Raider game is a joke. I worked Raider games at the coliseum and can tell you there nothing could be further from the truth.

Don't believe me? Take a look at the Amat vs. DR TV broadcast. Take a good look at the crowd. Yeah boy, those costumed/tatted down asian Amat students/fans fans sure do look like some hardcore Raider fans (rolling eyes).

I am not an Amat fan, but I did observe the following after watching the game on TV:

1) DR was way more physical, bigger D-line and #54 was a big stud going both ways.
2) DR had greater overall team athleticism and team speed than Amat.
3) Amat has All everything coaching staff.
4) Amat played uncharacteristically sloppy football, whereby, stupid momentum killing penalties negated 3-4 long gains.
5)Amat although physically smaller, can play with the big boys because of much superior conditioning and coaching.

Conclusion: Amat wins by small margin due to better coaching and playcalling. However, Amat wins by big margin if you take away the dumb penalties.

In theory, high school games are won by great coaching. Hence, Verti is history.

For those of you calling for Bryan Heyward (the Amat PA announcer) to be fired, well, good luck. He's been around for ages, at least since I was going to school there in the early 90s. I love the guy - he livens up the atmosphere, and is not so dreadfully dull as PA announcers at other venues. Yes, he is a homer, but we certainly don't mind that.

As for the Diamond Ranch game, it was an ugly performance by Amat. The sheer number of penalties destroyed any offensive momentum Amat could generate. If they play that way against Serra opponents, they will have their rear ends handed to them. I will say that Diamond Ranch has a couple of studs on the defensive side of the ball, and that helped keep the game close as well. But the score was more of a reflection of what Amat did and did not do rather than what Diamond Ranch did and did not do.

CO Hater, You must have gotten your a$$ kicked 4 yrs straight in you hs days.

DR, I watched your BA game on tivo and the first thing that popped into my head was how much your D reminded me of Rancho. Quick off the ball with a stud in the middle. Friday will be a good battle for the league championship.

The sad thing is, is that even is SH worst years they will still beat West covina at their best. lol Kings of cameron and still reigning baby!

I just read the article from the Charter Oak/ Etiwanda game. Brandon Golden went to Monrovia and Leon Youngbloood went to Monrovia and Vincent Minor Etiwanda running back went to Duarte but transferred after his freshman year due to unfortunate circumstances. but they all played together on the Duarte Hawks team. Half of charter Oak skill player offence and Defence played duarte hawks together.

Personally Ranch fans I want to know the over/under on your game against Oak Friday night. Those guys don't have and haven't played the schedule you have preseason and I would expect you are going to beat them bigtime. Please tell me you put the smack down on the wannabe Chargers. What's your predictions Panthers?

DR WHO?
Have you given consideration that BA had a bad night because DR can and did compete with them. DR could say that they had a bad night...we also had t
