Trib's Super 33: No movement in top five
Rankings: Bishop Amat was idle and has a two week rest going into Friday's regionally televised game against Diamond Ranch on Fox Sports. The Lancers are expected to have UCLA-bound linebacker Isaiah Bowens back, who will want to make a splash in front the cameras. Charter Oak solidified its No. 2 ranking with an easy win over Damien, handling them much the same way that Bishop Amat did. South Hills was slow from the gate again, but woke up to defeat Northview, leaving them at No. 3. South El Monte drops out of the top ten after another futile defensive effort, which allows Diamond Bar to crack our top ten after a 3-1 start.

No stopping him: Rosemead's Tra Sumler rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns in Friday's 45-14 rout over Temple City. Cal Preps has Rosemead favored in Friday's showdown against South Hills.
1. Bishop Amat (3-1) -- Expect something special on Friday, especially after a two-week rest with arguably their best player back on defense. This is the Lancers' chance to make a statement to the Southland, not just the San Gabriel Valley.
2. Charter Oak (4-0-1) -- That early talk about the Chargers' cupcake schedule is moot now, especially after tying Rancho Cucamonga, and crushing Diamond Bar and Damien, with another toughie on the road this week at Etiwanda. They have the second best offense in the SGV behind Amat, and their defense is producing as well.
3. South Hills (3-1) -- The Southeast Division's top-ranked team is winning but not as convincingly as one might expect. They actually struggled against Northview in the first half. Defensively they're solid, but they do not have the back-breaking running back that scares you. Cameron Deen and his wide receiving core are dangerous, but not sure if they can run against the best teams in their division.
4. San Dimas (4-0) -- With all due respect to Northview, Baldwin Park and the other teams in the Valle Vista league, Bonita is the only team that can stop the Saints from going undefeated in the regular season. But the way the Saints are running the ball, it's not happening, even with Bonita at home hosting the Smudge on Friday.
5. West Covina (4-1) -- Well, well, and to think it's only loss came at Bishop Amat? I sure at glad the Bulldogs don't play South Hills until the end of the season. Neither team is going to lose until they face each other on Nov. 14 at West Covina.
6. Bonita (3-1) - - The Bearcats have a chance against San Dimas because they can throw the football. QB Terry Paradez needs to have the game of his career, but not sure if they can stop San Dimas on defense. Still, it's a rivalry game and emotions will play a huge part.
7. Glendora (2-2) -- The Tartans pull another one out of their hat, scoring in the final seconds to beat West Ranch, 28-24. If there's one player I wanted in the clutch, it's quarterback Drew Kaluzny.
8. Rosemead (3-1) -- Can you believe this, Rosemead is favored over South Hills on CalPreps. If would be a monumental win for the Panthers, and if it happened, they would have to be the Mid-Valley Division favorites over San Dimas. So let's make this prediction now, Rosemead and San Dimas in the Mid-Valley final.
9. Rowland (3-1) -- The Raiders didn't have a letdown after defeating Northview, crushing Covina 42-21 at the District Field. We keep talking about South Hills and West Covina, but the Raiders look like spoilers more and more each week.
10. Diamond Bar (3-1) -- Never thought the Brahmas would crack our top ten after losing so big to Charter Oak, but it is their lone loss and it came against the No. 2 team. They've had impressive wins since and deserve the bump up in rankings.
Rounding out the top 33: 11. Walnut (3-1), 12. Diamond Ranch (1-3), 13. South El Monte (2-2), 14. Northview (2-2), 15. Damien (1-4), 16. Western Christian (4-0), 17. Baldwin Park (3-1), 18. Azusa (4-1), 19. Pomona (3-1), 20. Workman (3-1), 21. El Monte (2-2), 22. Wilson (1-3), 23. Los Altos (0-4), 24. Covina (1-4), 25. Duarte (1-4), 26. Ganesha (2-3), 27. Nogales (1-3), 28. Bassett (2-3), 29. Arroyo (0-4), 30. Mountain View (1-3), 31. La Puente (0-5), 32. Sierra Vista (0-5), 33. Gladstone (0-4).

Are you serious? do you know how to spell. I am sure didn't go to diamond bar because we can spell here. you probably need to check where you went. Next time think before you talk.

Don,
Well said.
While some foresaw 08 as a rebuild year for Monrovia, Maddox has already proven that the deep talent pool at M-town is far from dry and that he has a natural ability to motivate, get kids focused and ready to compete. Look for M-town to get nothing but better. TC has stumbled, lost 2 games in the waning minutes of the 4th to AHS and SG and is listing with 6 or 7 starters hurt and looking for kids to step up. Provided the Rams can get by a banged up La Salle this Friday, next weeks opener at M-town should be good football.
San Marino has a good crop of kids this year, including returning QB and two good rushers - but their return to success is driven from the sidelines with a talent bolstered coaching staff.

Goldenarm,
You are probably right about my take of the Rio Hondo; I haven't spoken to either of my RHL “insiders' in a couple of weeks and what I know about those schools is probably pretty stale. I was mainly trying to keep my “area” consistent with what I have used over the past couple of years. I don't take offense to criticism and enjoy the give and take with folks like yourself who write to be understood and not just to be heard.
My Monrovia perspective is that they have lost a ton of talent the past couple years due to the violence in a couple of neighborhoods which is tragic. Charter Oak, to name one, is a program which has benefited from transfers out of the MUSD. The TCHS reference was more directed at old guys like myself who remember them “in the day”. ;{)
Most of what I pick up comes from other guys like me who had/have kids playing sports and over the years developed friendships outside of our professional relationships. The funny thing is that business usually takes a back seat to sports talk during Fallsport and Baseball seasons and many of the connections have survived over the years even when jobs have changed. I still maintain contact with folks who I haven't done business with for ten or twelve years strictly because of our mutual interest in youth and High School athletics. Combined with my nearly always present laptop/verizon air card and a well trained Dragon NaturallySpeaking package, I can blurt and blog to my heart's content.
Hey, everyone needs a hobby, right?
Posted by: Don | October 9, 2008 1:40 PM
Don,
usually you are on the money, your RHL outlook proves you are overextended...things will change significantly this week and next.
Also "remember when TC was good"?....I think LP might, since they were handed a round 1 playoff exit just last year by the Rams. A rocky start yes, but burial...hardly.
Based on opponents - Monrovia deserves status well above San Marino. No disrespect, like I said your posts are generally rooted in solid observation.
Posted by: Goldenarm | October 9, 2008 12:13 PM
Number one - The post from the guy named Me is not that far from the truth about Bogan and South Hills. freedom of speech or not I know many people who have had sons play there and daughters and sons go there. Many interesting things have gone on. Let's just say the athletes have gotten treatment that would not necessarily happen at other schools. But i am not going to go any further than that.
Number two - Just wondering you moron if defense wins championships then it doesn't look like your beloved San Dimas will wim one.
Posted by: LOL | October 8, 2008 11:14 PM
Yeah, I know...DBar probably won't stay in the top ten long but who cares! We're ranked higher than all the Pomona schools...hehe
Seriously, DBar is tiny, but they are some of the best tiny athletes in the SGV. Calvin Bishop #5 is THE lockdown corner, not Lockett. Lockett is overrated and gets beat deep every game. Bishop is 5'6" 165lbs and tough. Taylor Moncreif #42 has got to be the smallest linebacker, 5'7" 165lbs, in the Valley that leads his team in tackles. BTW, he didn't play against Charter Oak. If he was in we would have held them under 60! Next, #16, Robert Ignacio, 5'6" 175lbs. A great little runner to compliment Sly Stewart.
Yes, DBar has won on the great courage and skills of Hunter Warren, one of the best, least talked about QBs in the area. His scrambling, running, kicking, punting and passing skills would make a great utility player for a smaller college at the next level. The thing that scares me about DBar? It's a senior dominated team that for the most part the seniors haven't stepped up. They could finish as high as number 2-3 in a tough Sierra league, if the older guys step up their game.
Good luck Coach Martin.
Posted by: Soph Dad | October 8, 2008 8:57 PM
completly agree with this guy under me. I was watching the film for the co & damien game. Damien pretty much owned co in the trenches. Adam Muema the D1 prospect that every one was talking about, sure didnt look like no D1 prospect in the rancho and damien games. In his first 3 games he had 584 yards on 48 carries which was against very weak opponents. As soon as he went against some quality oppenets he look like a ordinary rb to me. Here are is stats for the rancho and damien game 156 yards on 34 carries. Not great stats for a rb who has an pretty good o-line.Just one last word damien held Muema to 76 yards without Jake Salter there 6'1 260 pound beast of a nose tackle who by the way was all sierra league last year.
Posted by: ghsfan | October 8, 2008 7:41 PM
KS, (Sorry, I tried to type it out but I could only giggle.)
I'm sure your numbers are accurate, I am only going by what I saw on Friday night and mostly by what I saw Damien do against a very good C O Defense.
When the Spartans began moving the ball in the air with #4 they pulled him in favor of #16. Now 16 gave a new dimension to the offense with his scrambling, but at the loss of the air attack that seemed to be going pretty well. Why not go with what is working and stick with it?
The second thing that I found a little surprising was that the Chargers didn't wear down Damien like I thought they would when the game began. C O has some big, strong boys on both lines and at LB and I thought they would totally take over in the 2nd half. Didn't happen.
Expectations are always high at a private and I can understand the frustration of the Damien fans. My point was they were playing a high quality opponent and, as I said, “didn't look that bad”.

The only tailgating I will ever be doing is at a local college football game mostly because of the good looking ladies. I think the Amat donkey's have turned me off to your program. I realize not all Amat fans have the raider mentality but it seem the majority ruin it for the real Amat fans. I agree there are too many Raider fans in so cal inspite of the fact Alice Davis is running the team into the ground.

KS,
We'll win you over slowly but surely. You'll be tailgating before you know it.
Your comment about, "there is a Raider mentality with some Amat fans" is something many of us fought a year ago and is getting better. The "Amat Nation" t-shirts were met with opposition from many. But have you been to many places in the SGV? There's a bit too much "Raider-ism" most everywhere these days.
However, I do find it interesting that many who buy into the "Raider Myth" at Amat are those that don't come out to see for themselves.
Try it... you'll like it!

Posted by: King Stud | October 8, 2008 2:04 PM
Don,
Always enjoy your posts but I have to comment on your comments about Damien. In their 4 losses they have been outscored 157 to 59. They did only trail in the CO game 21-14 at the half but this team hasn't played well at all with the exception of the Claremont game. For a Division 2 school with the ability to recruit like Amat they are doning poorly. It's pretty obvious the Spartan program is going down hill and a change needs to be made there.

Hey gstonedforlife, How can you possibly talk about soft? Last time I looked happy rock was losing to the likes of Ganesha and Bosco Tech. Before you go casting stones you should be sure your own house is in order. Any defense(sorry for the pun) that gives up the points you do should quit mid season and save themselves the embarassment. I did't go to AHS, but I admire the job they are doing this year.
Good job Scherf and staff.

Joe,
I wouldn't go quite that far as me becoming an Amat fan but so far Amat is having a good season. If they keep it up remains to be seen. I still believe there is a Raider mentality with some Amat fans. Not sure you will ever see me at Kiefer stadium anytime soon. Except for the bi polar rant from my life long buddy FC a few posts below this blog is becoming a nicer place to chat.

Holey moley, he's right. Calpreps has Rosemead over South Hills Friday by two points.
I think Ned Freeman has been hanging in the closet with that old mimeo machine too long.
Anyhow, here's the “Big Valley” version of the top teams .. . . . . Big Valley, mmmmnnn, Linda Evans.
Sorry, I went away there for a moment; and now, back to football.
Bishop Amat- {Cue the music} “You're still the one that makes me shout ”
Charter Oak - Bumped up one here, but there are still some holes. Can anyone exploit them?
South Hills – I'm calling it the Highlander let down, the Huskies are still at the head of the pack
San Dimas – Kind of anti-climatic, the spongebob game may be the toughest the Saints play in '08
West Covina – Remember all the teeth gnashing over the loss of a QB?
St Francis - Will roll up the Ranch followed up by four weeks of beatdowns
Muir – I'm not as sure the Pacific League is as safe as I thought it was
Glendora – OK, this is an Order: go out Thursday and kick ElDo's ask! Got it? Good.
Bonita – Will go in to the big game healthy and full of beans; may still not be enough
Damien – Still wondering what all the complaints are about; Spartans didn't look that bad Friday
Diamond Ranch – Amat on TV this week followed by C O next ... youch
Rowland – Three game streak looking to make it four against BP
Rosemead – Hey, win or lose, you'll still probably rate higher
Diamond Bar – Look who is moving on up
Maranatha - I would like to see these guys play some MVL and Montview teams next year
Azusa – Start here, be a good pre season and some local fun
San Gabriel – Should have never booked Cathedral and Serra
South El Monte – MVL race to be determined 10/24
Arcadia – Dinged up, short handed but still hanging in there
San Marino – Titans could very well finish RHL play at 10-0
Monrovia – Maddox feels about Charter Oak the same way Ayala's Inglima does Bishop Amat
Walnut – Go ahead and tell me you saw this coming, I dare ya
Northview - Gained ground in CalPreps, not here
Alhambra – Gil, stop playing all those teams from the RHL, it just looks bad
Rio Hondo Prep – SGV Mini-School GOTY coming up
Los Altos-Full scale revolt on tap for Hacienda Heights football before the end of the season
Claremont – Crummiest team in the Baseline Is still better than half the teams in the SGV
Baldwin Park – Third best team in the Mid-Valley Division which is ... not that great
Poly - #2 in the Prep League, home of the Calabasas to Claremont bus ride
Temple City – Remember when these guys were good? (Before all the small privates had 11 man)
Pasadena – Pull these guys and the school named after vacuum cleaner and the P L is 16-11
Western Christian – Last of the patsies, you guys are into the maelstrom starting next week
Pomona – Props here for a gutty run so far. Keep stroking guys
Covina – Going the wrong way so far

King Stupid Whining Beeatch, it never fails. Now your OX is being GORGED and you want others to play nice. Even went so far as to COWARDIZE bloggers. boofreakinwhoooo made you GOD! What a twisted lowlife you have become. I liked you more when you were that real lowlife and made fun of people no matter how much they asked you to stop because it was impacting their family, no matter how much they asked you to stop beacuse it was bringing out the worst in people, no matter how much you embarrssed and harrassed them..you gleefully came after them even more. I liked that KIng Stud the best. You must have pounded your nuts with laughter after all that entertaining cruelty. So I have some advice for you you mather fukending asshole. Tell Bogan it's just a joke, tell yourself no one is taking this stuff seriously, tell anyone who wants to investigate the charges of grade fixing taht bloggers just do this to have fun, King Stud relax and take you own worthless advice. Have fun and pease don';t change and go soft now. Why now, why Bogan, what make shim so special? because you say so, because he coaches your kid, because your smell his farts and say thank you. Everyone knows the grades have been changed. Now you really disgust me. I thought you were a punk before , now you've left no doubt. Shaq said it best, "King Stud ...how does my asssss taste???"

Hey all,
I went to bed last night and when I woke up, the blog had gone nuts over the second ammendment! Football guys! The four teams I pointed out have interesting makeups. I look at a team like Amat, CO, San Dimas, West Covina, etc... and I ask myself, "what one player could you remove from their program that would cause the program to look completely different and possibly fail?" With the above teams, there's no one guy! With the QB centered teams (i.e. SEM, Bonita, South Hills, Azusa)... if their QB goes down, their program becomes listed as "others" at the bottom of Freds listings. If Amat looses a playmaker, there are several others that will pick it up and keep the team rolling. If San Dimas looses one of its stud running backs, there are three or four others that can run just as well. No SGV team has unlimited depth, but the QB centered teams would really really suffer if they didn't have their guys. Again, it's something of a moot point, but I think it will prove to be the difference between a first or second round exit and a potential championship.

There is a huge difference between me slamming amat fans ( most of whom are donkeys) and some nut case posting some crap about a class guy like Bogan. I never came in here making accusations that can ruin someones career.
As far as I am concerned I recently decided to be a kinder and gentler King Stud. I don't believe there is anything wrong with that. Infact I think most would agree my takes are more intelligent than in the past. It find it very funny the criticism i have been taking for trying to be nicer.

"Captain obvious"! That's great, I had never heard that before - I'm stealing it.
Sounds like an SNL skit in the making... Captain Obvious!
Posted by: Joe Amat | October 8, 2008 8:53 AM
The accusations about Bogan are just dumb. Put up the proof or shut up. That's not what the blog is about. The Qb's mention may have play makers, but the ball still needs to hit their hands. NV has some play makers but can't get that ball in their hands, Qb problem?? What about the teams with huge running games, do they have play makers?? How about huge lines?? Looking at each team in the valley, very few have a complete balance on both sides of the ball. That's why the top three teams haven't changed much, but the rest continue to battle for recognition. With out being captain obvious, that's why it's a team sport. To say the Qb's are only good because of their play makers, you'd have to say the same for the backs from CO, SD, SH etc. Give credit, where credit is due. Putting the ball in flight at a moving target, while under pressure of being crushed is probably one of the toughest tasks on the field, regardless of who has to catch it. That is not to under state the impact of other positions or players. Qb is one position, where someone is coming to knock you down EVERY play, while you are most vulnerable. Yeah you're right, it's just because they have play makers. That explains why Amat, CO, & SH are ranked at the top. They have play makers! Ya think! Would it be safe to say, Allen & Deen are not very good, they just have play makers? They are one element of a team game that does a good job! Good job boys.

Rod
This is my last comment to you about this. When someone lobs a comment like that its being a coward. If someone needs to make an comment like that they should put their name behind it giving it more creedence. I on the other hand don't need to post my real name because even if i use my first name like you we are both still anonymous and I would be willing to bet your name isn't Rod. My main point was if you make a serious accusation then back it up with your name. I wasn't doing that. Understand now kid?
Posted by: King Stud | October 7, 2008 10:43 PM
once again queen stud, you got it wrong. you called him out for being anonymous. read your own words. you are also anonymous. that equation equals hypocrisy. who needs to go back to school?
Posted by: rod w. | October 7, 2008 10:33 PM
Rod.
Go back to school. I called that blogger out for stating something that can ruin Bogan reputation. I don't need to use my real name and whose to say your real name is Rod anyway? Now go clean your room before mommy comes in to check in on you.
Posted by: King Stud | October 7, 2008 10:22 PM
Queen Stud,
How can you expect anyone else to use their real names if you won't? It is relevant because you brought it up.
Posted by: rod w. | October 7, 2008 10:19 PM
Rod
Using my real name is not relevant. I am not the one on here slamming Bogan without stating the proof. If someone is going to lob those kind of allegations they should come clean. I don't slam coaches or kids. That is lower than low.
Posted by: King Stud | October 7, 2008 10:18 PM

Well it's nice to know that you use the name Me to anonymously slam the SH program. How brave of you. Since you are all about accountablity how about posting your real name when making those comments?
Did you get cut from the team or did your son get cut or isn't playing under Bogan?. Obviously you have an ax to grind. You are right about the freedom of speech however coming into a public forum to slam a class guy like Bogan is lower than low. I hope you are proud of yourself and I sure hope you are a teen and not a parent making these comments.
Posted by: King Stud | October 7, 2008 10:00 PM
Freedom of speech does not entitle you to libel or defame people online any more than you can on the street or in the press. As far as I can see you have accused Coach Bogan of doing something illegal.
Should he decide to pursue the issue you best be prepared to demonstrate your “proof” to a Judge.

Where the hell do you get off making those kind of statements about SH and Bogan? Where is your proof?. There is nothing more disgusting than anonymous donkeys coming on this blog and spreading all these rumors. Go to the CIF if you have a gripe. Making those kind of statements is nothing more than a cheap shot from a coward.
Posted by: King Stud | October 7, 2008 9:35 PM
I agree also, although SH coaching staff has fixed certain players grades to keep them eligible and at times, given particular players money, it is questionable if they can be the caliber of team as Amat and CO. My only disagreement would be the #4, I think they should be rated maybe at best #9. I really think CIF needs to look into Bogan and some of the coaching staff to see if they're massaging the system for certain players.

i agree 100 percent with the guy under me?? all those qbs have playmakers?! and to go on about this kid gaeta?? to put it in a nice way is a softy! he plays hard against ganesha and marshall and mt. view but when you hit him he will fold... and about that number 24 ochoa i believe? sure he got an interception wow he was in terrible postion and got lucky that number 5 didnt jump in front of him.. 24 is too small too slow and seems to be lost out on the field?!? and against lp gaeta could not run his counter or trap whatever it was to save his life and ill tell you why... because they were hitting him and he hates it.. and ochoa man yeah he got a interception again but boy can you get any luckier??? he was in terrible positon again and the qb threw a bad ball he thinks he can out jump people but he's wrong!!!! too small buddy!!!!!!!!!

i disagree with you entirely just wondering... i mean sure qbs at all those schools are good but to say if u are to take one man out and the teams would just be average??? i just dont see that happening... bonitas qb is very taletned but he has stars all around him... south el monte the qbs is has a strong arm but he also has recievers that will go and make catches; who want to make catches...the sh qb is a tough kid but sh has a strong d and it helps when ur oppent only scores 14 points you seem to be more relaxed... and for gaeta at azusa well yeah he is very talented but folds under pressure he proved that against aquinas.. he wanted no part of them but their back up number 2 or whatever stepped in and did a ok job i'd give it a d plus c minus at best... but back to gatea he was out in what like 5 plays??? the team was in the game the whole time as soon as 24 got a pik the team started to say hey we can play with these guys... but again to say that one man would be that much of a difference i believe is wrong?!? what does everyone else think?

I don't know, but I think SH should be #4 behind San Dimas. They (SH) were really average against Northview and even though they won, for the entire first half I kept thinking "wow, Northview is right in the middle of this. Are they that good, or is SH not as strong as advertised?" There are four teams that come to mind that enjoy good rankings and I think the majority of their status on the lists is purely the result of QB play. Azusa, South Hills, South El Monte, and Bonita are all teams with excellent QBs, but seem to be lacking in some other areas. Here's a fact... if you remove their QB, each of these teams are average at best. I realize it's a moot point, because they each do indeed have good quarterbacks. But quarterbacks don't win championships... according to Lou Holtz - defense wins championships. What do you all think?
