Volleyball Top 10 - Glendora on top

Tribune Top 10
Girls Volleyball
1. Glendora (14-2) -- Tartans lost in five games to Diamond Bar, but came back with an impressive three-game win over Walnut in the Ayala Tournament on Saturday
2. Walnut (18-4) -- The Mustangs looked like they might jump over Glendora to No. 1, but stay at No. 2 after losing to the Tartans over the weekend. They play for first place in the San Antonio League with a road match at South Hills on Thursday.
3. Diamond Bar (16-3) -- The Brahmas have been on fire, winning seven in row, which includes a five-game victory over Glendora and sweeping through the Gabrielino Tournament
4. South Hills (9-4) -- The Huskies have had trouble with conistency most of the season, but they could make up for that with a win over Walnut on Thursday.
5. Bonita (12-5) -- The Bearcats came up big last week, rallying from two games down to defeat the undefeated Charter Oak in five.
6. Charter Oak (14-2) -- The Chargers hold the No. 6 spot after taking Bonita to the brink last week. They also rebounded with a good win over Diamond Ranch two nights later.
7. San Dimas (14-3) -- The Saints just keep taking care of business in the Valle Vista League. They get another chance when they visit second-place Ganesha on Wednesday.
8. St. Lucy's (12-7) -- The Regents have held their own against the rest of the Sierra League. They get a shot at rival and co-leader Glendora tonight.
9. Ganesha (16-6) -- The Giants move up a spot after another solid week. They look to gain a share of first place in the VVL with a win over San Dimas on Wednesday.
10. La Puente (18-1) -- The Warriors have been dominant in the Montview League, winning every game but one. Their only match loss was in a tournament over the weekend. They can all but clinch the league title when they travel to Gladstone on Thursday.
Note: Rankings are based on matches played through Oct. 25

ghigh, you were asking about mayfield, they are just a little school in pasadena with 300 girls. they won the cif div IVAA last year. I don't know if they are going to win it this year, but anything can happen. They work hard and came in 2nd at the Ayala tournament. Is that enough info for you?
The SGV fans should make a pledge before CIF that if we get knocked off we do our best to bring all our parents and teams to support the teams that make it the farthest. Imagine packed houses making a statement that someone from the area will win CIF! Good luck to all this week-hope GHigh will finish strong so we can go to some of the great matches that are played later in the evening.
There are two leagues that are still undecided. The Miramonte and Sierra. Charter Oak plays Bonita on 11/06/08. If Charter Oak wins it will be a shared title for Charter Oak. St. Lucy's plays Diamond Bar on 11/04/08. If St. Lucy's wins there will be a three way tie between Diamond Bar/St. Lucy's/Glendora. If St. Lucy's losses, Diamond Bar will win the Sierra League.
This is a pretty big week. I am sure everyone is biting nails until then.
There really could be a shake up in both leagues.
The blog has definitely slowed down now that the playoffs are almost decided.
Any comments on Mayfield? I know they are a huge favorite to win CIF again, but any help would be appreciated.
I am sure no one from Damien is reading this blog. Better to post in football section, although now that I think of it, they are doing so bad, they are probably not reading that either...
DAMIEN HS: WE ALL NEED FOR YOU TO SUPPORT ST LUCY'S HS ON TUESDAY 11/4/08. WE WILL BE PLAYING DIAMOND BAR HS. IF ST LUCY'S WIN, IT WILL BE A 3 WAY TIE FOR THE SIERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP.....PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT.....GO RENTS!
Bonita took Wilson in 3
S. Hills beat Walnut in 5 last game was 17-15. Very exciting. Walnut fought off two match points and then S. Hills battled back down 14-15 to win. The match could have gone either way. Both teams played outstanding. Great defense. It looks like they will split the league championship.
St. Lucy's took down Ayala tonight in 4. SD put the back-up players in for game 3 and they let it get away from them. All-in-all some decent play for SL's, however not their best effort. They will be ready for DB on Tuesday for the great showdown.
Any other scores from tonight?

Yes we finally beat San Dimas it was such a great match but we stepped up our game and just finished them i was really excited about this game and like i told coach Mcgaha by the time it came down to 3rd period i was starting to get nervous but once the game started it was like HELLO San Dimas your at our school and we are gonna show you how we do it here .. but yeah two more matches that we have to come out strong on (which we are)
and hopefully our dream comes true Valle vistas league champs
GIANTS WHOOOOO!
Congratulations Ganesha High School! Way to step up and get the job done.
Of course being a SL fan I would be nominating Tara Prater as player of the week having 17 kills against Glendora to help win it for Sl.
But lots of room compliments for these talented young women.
Steve, PLEASE don't rank Diamond Bar #1 next week. I really like our win streak
It wouldn't make much sense for us to pass St. Lucy's since they beat us in three. I think we are a lot better now, but I'm sure they are too.
We're hoping this will get us ranked in the top 8 of our CIF div. so we have a better chance in the playoffs.
congrats Ghigh. I hope Marcy is an underclassman. Good luck next week and in CIF.
Do we see a top 7 in your future rankings?
Ganesha beat San Dimas in 4! 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12!
Give credit to San Dimas-they played us really tough and never quit. That's why we are tied for first!
Marcy Moreno of Ganesha had a school record 27 Kills and 6 blocks! I think we'd like to put her up for athlete of the week!
We still have to finish strong against two good teams in league and then hopefully host a CIF game. We currently have the best record in school history as well with 18.
Thanks to all and good luck next week.
Vbl,
Diamond Bar was not in the Ayala tourney, they were at Gabrielino.
Tournaments are hard to gauge. I don't think La Puente should have dropped below Ganesha just because they lost to Village Christian in the tournament.
Still, we enjoy the accolades, but moving up in the CIF poll is more important come playoff time.
You are correct. Walnut never got to #1. For some reason I thought they had.
I am not going to take anything away from Bonita. They are a good team, but I still think SL's beats them.
No doubt about CO.
I have a hard time putting to much emphasis on these tournament game wins. The Gabrielino playoffs were one game each. The Ayala tournament was 2 out of 3. How many times have teams been down 0-2 or 1-2 and come back to win the match.
my thoughts are Walnut hasn't been #1 yet so they cant get back to 1. The only two teams who have been number 1 are South Hills and Glendora. Glendora has lost 4 times in a week so they obviously drop. I would say the winner of the South Hills-Walnut game should go to 1 next week or perhaps Diamond Bar if South Hills wins.
As said before summer has no bearing. Nobody is fielding their true teams in the summer. Vacations, club tournaments, players trying out all impact summer league games. St. Lucy's should be moved ahead of San Dimas. It may be difficult to move them ahead of Charter Oak or Bonita.
So what does the Glendora loss do to the rankings? I would say Walnut would go back to #1, however with their loss to Glendora, you have to put DB at #1, Glendora #2, Walnut #3, SH stays at 4. Of course you have to move St. Lucy's up. I couldn't put them in top 4, since they have lost to all of those teams, but they do deserve #5 ahead of Bonita. They did beat them over the summer. Thoughts?
Butter_yourmuffin: JUST BUTTER YOUR MUFFIN OK. Do not spoil it for the other bloggers.
That #1 ranking is a jinx. Glendora lost 3 times last week since being ranked #1. Once to Diamond Bar once in the Ayala tournament pool play and then once in Ayala playoffs. Yet still ranked one. Now they lose the first game this week right after the rankings come out. Im not sure I want to be ranked #1. Its like the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx.
DB is @ SL's next Tuesday.
For some schools, home court has advantages. For whatever reason, SL's home crowd is usually subdued, although last night we showed signs of getting loud. It hurts not having the boys there. SL's crowd needs to bring lots of noise next week against DB!
Regarding Ayala, although their record doesn't reflect it, they do have some talent on that team and could play the upset if the cards fell their way. I will be making sure my daughter doesn't overlook them. One game at a time...
The Ganesha-San Dimas game is today at Ganesha.
Who is home in the Diamond Bar-St. Lucy's game. I never used to believe that much in home court advantage, but in volleyball I think it is huge. Volleyball a lot like tennis, except the crowd is loud during game play.
Who won the Ganesha/San Dimas game?
As for Ayala, good point. I don't want to look too far ahead. We need to play one game at a time.
But we are getting ready to play Diamond Bar.
For Glendora Dad, don't eat too much crow because we will need Glendora's support. If St. Lucy's beats Diamond Bar that is the only way both our teams will win the Sierra League. Hope to see Glendora supporting the SL players at SL's gym next Tuesday night.
As for our SL team, I could not be more proud. They have really been playing like a team since the Ayala tournament and they continue to play hard and play with heart. It is making all the difference in the world. Our defense is digging and making the passes, our setters are setting, our middles are blocking and the hitters are hitting, and our coach made adjutsments when we needed it.
It was a great night for the Regents.
For 3 way ties in most leagues I believe it's always a coin flip. For 2nd, if there is time, they can have a one match playoff.
Congrats to St. Lucy's-not much of a surprise though, in my opinion. I'm curious how the sierra league will fare in CIF-hopefully all teams will surprise people.
how does sierra league decide who go into cif as 1st place and so on if there is a 3 way ties for first place or 2 way ties?
Congrat to St Lucys, but it's time for Ayala to do some spoiling too... go bulldogs!!
congrats SL
now go beat diamond bar.
lets have a 3way tie for the title.
Go Regents
Thanks Patrick. Looks like you guys are in the driver's seat, for now... :-)
Congrats St.Lucy's on your victory. This is going to be one WILD finish to the crown.
Let me refresh your memory...
"Pulling out summer league stats? We all know what summer league is about. Beat somebody in the regular season...please. St Lucy's has lost to every top 10 team in the regular season and has beat nobody ranked. Please beat a ranked team and then pop off.
St Lucy's does not deserve to be in the top 10."

As I called it, St. Lucy's beat Glendora tonight in 4. Glendora did a heck of job after being down 0-2 to win the 3rd and then losing in one of the best sets of the season, 29-31.
Congratulations to the Regents. You guys did an awesome job and have hopefully turned the corner. All Glendora can do now is pray for St. Lucy's to beat DB for a 3-way tie in Sierra.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, where are you now Glendora Dad??? I got some more crow for you, served fresh!

The Ganesha-San Dimas game is at 3:15. In the Valle Vista Varsity plays separately from Frosh/Soph and JV.
This should be another great match with two evenly matched teams. We anticipate a packed house and a playoff type atmosphere. Go Giants!
