Breaking News: Gano interested in Damien
"Absolutely, I would look into it," former Los Altos coach Greg Gano said of coaching at Damien. "It would be something I'm interested in."

Following Scott Morrison's firing at Damien on Friday, names have started to surface to replace him. The front-running name I've heard is former Chino coach John Monger, but the blockbuster out there is Greg Gano, who stepped away from Los Altos this past season and is one of the winningest coaches in San Gabriel Valley history. Gano said he's always admired Damien's football tradition, and at this point in his career, it's something he's going to take a close look at. Gano is still the athletic director and girls softball coach at Los Altos, but a move to Damien is something he would consider. "Absolutely, I would look into it," Gano said. "It would be something I'm interested in." At Los Altos Gano won six Miramonte League titles and four CIF-SS championships (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003) while compiling a 110-30-1 record at the school and a 25-6 mark in the playoffs. Gano was a three-time CIF-SS coach of the year (1999, 2002, 2003) and was the Tribune coach of the year in 2002 after leading the Conquerors to the Div. VI title.
Fred's thoughts: Wow was my reaction. I don't know how Damien doesn't take a close look at this. After what Bishop Amat did, imagine a Gano-led Spartans team going against Bishop Amat and Hagerty every season. Think of the players that would instantly be interested with Gano on board. We always talked about what he would do at a Bishop Amat, but this is a gem of a job too. Gano would not only get top-notch players in the SGV, but but his reputation would bring the Inland Empire into the mix.

This Blog was most helpful, your ideas are straight to the point, and the colors are cool too.
Finally a blog that didnt contradict it self, amazing writing. :)
Do you think that car rentals will continue to get cheaper?
the senior class was full of whiners and complainers who never took responsibility for their actions. all they had to do was hold the lead against glendora and they make the playoffs and maybe win a chmpionship. all they had to do was cut half their twelve turnovers against chino hills and morrison keeps his job. all they had to do was beat the crap out of charter oak like every morrison team has and they have a great season. all they had to do was show up and not quit against ayala and they win league outright. all they had to do was play like they did against chino and the season would have worked out. all they had to do was compete at practice rather than whine about playing time and none of this ever happens. all they had to do was be supportive to every team mate regardless of class standing instead of bickering and playing mind games with the coaches. all they had to do was ban all dads from practice and maybe the coaches would actually enjoy coming to pratice. all they had to do was shut parents gomez and betance up for once and maybe people wouldn't have second guessed guillen being our leader, ethan was terrible as a leader and a qb. making him a captain was a mistake just look at his td/int ratio. the kid sucked! he's a prick just like his dad his dad was constantly complaining about james this and that and the lack of any coaching. john if you know so much why wasn't your son any better you know so much why didn't you coach at damien or anywhere else for that matter ur at every practice dude maybe your son didn't quit but john your negativity hurt the team just as much and please stop telling everyone he's being recruited that's a lie and you know it avila, reyes, flores, sale because they weren't treat with kid gloves grow a set you were never spartans and never will be spatans don't quit
Nick Sale,
You are but one of many problems the staff had to deal with this season. You continue to post on these things and spew that garbage to anyone who will listen. You are complaining that the staff did not take care of you and forced you to play? Bull and you know it, the staff wasn't the one trying to hide the injury, you did. You played through the pain yes, but when you didn't make a difference and got pulled, the whine party began and so did the accusations. Your a sad example of a Spartan, and I for one am glad you and especially Gomez will be graduating.
Sincerely,
Every player who has played through injury and not bi***ed about it
2009 you should really take the time to re read your comments. I doubt you would take your own advice and come clean with your name or say anything you wrote to the faces of junior parents. You behave cowardly, yet again. You're nothing if not consistent.
I am not Football Fan or have anything to do with any of this BS that you're involved with. The letter or lack thereof means NOTHING TO NO ONE! Morrison is GONE for better or worst. Get over it and stop slamming randomly. Unless you know then I suggest you take your own advice seeing as you have a lot of maybes and Ifs in your positions.
little sale is correct 'your stupidity" is clouding your recollection of the facts regarding the season, the players who quit, the stands, and just about evrything else from what I've read recently.
Please stop including me in your worthless need to blame someone for your season, your sons quitting , their record or the lack of a cure for stupidity. Have a good time looking for someone to blame for a terrible season and a worthless life.
I'll enjoy myself knowing better days are ahead for the Spartan football Program especially since the next coach won't tolerate kiss A$$es like yourself and your ilk.
Best of luck to Coach Bubba. I love the guy, Straight shooter, cares about the kids and is a tireless worker who deserved better than he's getting from parents and Morrison. Losing him would be a terrible blow for the school. I'll pay his salary if he stays. He's that valuable to the kids. Too bad we didn't have more like him.
Next time just call me and ask instead of making stupid cowardly comments that just start the Damien Blog Ritual of shameful attacks and random innuendos.
I saw this and wondered if this is what Morrisons "resignation" was like

Proud Parent 09',
People like you and me are fortunate to understand and recognize the love and dedication for the game.
& yes you're right, we owe NO ONE an explanation. Out of stupidity we actually thought people would understand, obiviously we had too much faith in ignorant people.
Thank you for your understanding. We would like to know who you are and instead of posting it on here if you would please reach us here:findthecure03@aim.com.
Football Fan -
If your sources are right, this makes PERFECT sense to me. I can't see the senior parents making such a move. It had to be from the junior class - that is if there really was a letter. Hey FC I know your reading this...where is the letter. You know all, see all, and have all. Produce it or shut up!
Sad State of Affairs-
When all is said and done...I believe it was all fun! I enjoyed the games, watching the boys, and when all this passes, the boys will laugh all this off and look back at these years as some of the best times in their life.
Dysfunctional? Only to those who get sucked up in these blogs and believe the BS. Where were the drunk parents? I never saw them. Do you have ANY hard evidence of this other than hearsay and the slanderous statements from the haters on this board? I never saw a drunk parent at Damien games. The tailgates I saw and the ones I participated in involved lots of good food and diet cokes. Be very, very careful. Defamation and slanderous statements against individuals might find you in a tort action.
To the Sale family. I am sorry you have to put up with idiots on this board. Nick IS a leader and a quality young man. I would be proud to have him as my son or brother. It's his LIFE not anyone else's. He gave his heart and soul for over 3 1/2 seasons to Damien football. He sacrificed his body to a coach and a team. History has shown and proven that many courageous and wise men have known when it was time to walk away from a losing battle, and live to fight another day - it takes a hell of alot of courage and guts to do so. Each and everyone of these men stood by their decision. Stand by your decision and don't feel you have to defend it to anyone - they after all were not in your shoes.
talk about a dysfunctional program!
again was anyone reading this blog over the past four years? damien's football program was poorly run and miserably administrated i think we can all agree on that now that that dirty laundry is out in the open what with seniors hating on juniors and senior parents hating on junior players and junior parents figting with senior parents and drunk parents everywhere and gossiping alumni and a former coach bagging on morrison in class instead of teaching and the list goes on and on a coaching staff that lost confidence in it's players and players that lost respect for their coaches parents made baout playing time and players quitting in midseason and parents yelling at players after games and parents in the stands arguing and yelling at the coaches how did it ever come to this its a sad state of affairs for everyone concerned and with the ailing economy why wouldn't someone have put a stop to this ealier rather than risk this public melt down next coach better clean house and bring in his own staff and get rid of anyone from this current regime and i mean everyone including the carrolls
i think it's sa-le like spanish. was that so hard to like admit? whatz up with dat?
ohh and by the way this isnt his brother its his sister :)
tall tale sale,
to go down to your level is beyond my abilty. sorry its just not in me.
you have your opinion and i have mine. you may see
your a joke and thats all there is to it.
& its just SALE something my brother represented well out there on the field when he played as a spartan.
The best Head Coach for Damien is still in the playoffs!!!!
I say hold your horses and get someone who will build a program rather than try and catch lighting twice as in Gano, Monger or the ridiculous choice of Larson. Come on Damien why not think about the fact that this search committee hired and fired the last two guys after their 5 year contracts were up.
That's who should be fired!
keeping a note from the coach is borderline parental neglect considering Damien's tragic track record with footbal related injuries. sorry to hear your mom did something so incredibly misguided and somehow you seem to have supported. Maybe you are a outrageous as you come across. no one is saying nick didn't have talent it's just he never took the time to heal. being on the field toady was someow more important than playing on saturdays. it was a poor decision on your family's part if what you say is true. maybe if he had played his antuarl position of strong safety he wouldn't have been washed up by injuries so soon, or maybe not. either way brother sale the sad fact is he's done and you gave your brother poor advice and kept the coaches in the dark, if you are to be believed. which I have problems with everything and anything you say. you're that misinformed from everything I've ever heard you say personally. one question is ypur name sale like in up for sale or sale like the Spanish pronunciation of Sa -le' like out the door?
jhykron-
long time no see, that was one of my first questions also. the importance of the lower division teams.he doesnt want to talk to much because the job is still up, actually he thinks maybe 60-40, monger. and yes, your right about the o-line, defensive cord. and yes qb coach a good one, also a former long time headcoach is lined up.but like i said, a whole lot has to work out.
Proud 2009 Parent. No clearer evidence for the weak minded fingerpointing backhannded cloud that came over Damien four years ago than your back sliding find me a warm cozy spot on diatribe of half exciuses and slithering blame games comments. Your kids didn't start as juniors because they were poorly coached as freshmen and sophmores and nothing more. Great kids but they were never anywhere near great football players. In fact this class has no great football players and only two could have beens at most. Yet everyone thought it was okay to defend and slander in an attempt to defend the lower level system when it benifited their kids and taught then absolutely nothing for two years. Revise the defending comments now. The change in positions is because they were either under sized, too slow or just plain not tough enough for varsity. Your record proves that and the blowouts only confirm the lack of mental toughness to fight back. That's honed and strenghtened as a team at the lower levels. Again nice revisionist history. This year the seniors with the exception of an elite few were out of shape and complacent. Again that's on the player not the coach. Get in shape in the off seaosn consistent with your sesire to start. that's as old as leather helmets. As far as the QB situation it was once metioned here a long time ago of the periles of starting a new Qb every senion year. Mendrun, Pertusati, Betance, Guillen, ect. Again with the revisionist history. If Betance wanted the job he would have pushed for the job. He never did. No varsity QB needs to be begged. Betance wanted the call like an actor wants a knock on the door. When he did play he was reckless but made plays. Again all those interceptions could have and should have happened at the lower levels.Too bad he didn't want it as a freshman and the team had to endure the Serafinko years. In spite of the fact that he's a straight A student and has one of the nicest dads, serafinko was never a quality QB at any level at any time longer than a quarter. Strictly from a football standpoint that was so easy to recognize especially once he moved to varsity and was moved mercifully to WR. Again with the revisionist's history. Next up is the lack of a legit RB or FB for 4 years with this class. That's a dead give away for something I won't approach. As far as DB this class had none of any quality. Good hardworking and maybe average speed but techniquely or mindset wise or agressiveness, absolutely no where to be found. Again no one on this senior class could give Taylor any competition at practice and that hurts the offense come game time. As far as the safety position last year well it didn't hurt Danny much if at all seeing as he's a MLB draft pick. Haywood was lost for two years. Can't single cover and can't hit coming up. No offense but that's the truth. Mc Bride changed that kid forever. And this year it was very apparent he never understood the position which is actually the easiest to learn but the toughest to master because it takes brains, balls and a mean streak the size of Texas. Come game time it was like trying to plug a dam with your finger. Again the kid is game was it coaching or something else who knows and at this point who cares. Done is done. Same goes for LBs. Strictly talking seniors now. Seniority never applies at this position. The meanest fastest tougest sons of a hoosegooyoh play linebacker. Who's the toughest kid in the senior class of 2009? I've got all day and night. No one will come up with an answer to that question becasue their is no one. Tough in the class room for sure but kick butt rip their heads off mean....NO! And that's a linebacker. This class was and is not tough. Coaches make players tough and this class had none in their formative years. Which coach was feared by this class? Coach Jan?, Coach Fed?, Coach Eric?, Coach Aaron?, Coach Thompson? Coach Pucci? Coach Farrar? Coach Hernandez? That's not a macho slight it's a football observation. An honest one that will no doubt bring out the boo birds but the truth only hurts if you don't like it. My former coaches p8ssed vinegar and sh8t fireballs, at least I thought so at the time, and moved me to do things I thought were impossible. And I love them all to this day. Anyone love these coaches? As far as Oline. Stop me. Again what happened to the 2 year set in stone Olines from the first two years? Again revisionists history. This class more than any I've ever been around has this crazy idea, given to them by their parents I'm sure, that playing time is a matter of seniority or popularity. It surely is not. At least not at the varsity level.I don't know what happened this year because whatever it was it took seed four years ago and this year it just beared fruit. Sour, worthless, bitter fruit and Morrison saw it coming. Morrison got what he had coming for his arrogrance and apparent head games with players and parents over the years. The little I've dealt with him has been bewildering but the stories his best players have of him speaks volumes about the man and his methods. I have absolutely no pity or sympathy for him or his staff with one exception becasue he was always about the kids and didn't play head games. As for the players I can only guess that most of you never played your varsity positions until it was too late while others who were in the right postion were terribly under coached or criminally coached. You decide. But than again it was nice starting all those lower level games that never prepared you for the big lights, and it showed. I do find it ironic that the parents who blasted the most were some of the most upset by the lack of fundamentals and playing time. This blog will one day come down and be forgotten like the apparent Tribune comglomerate but your 3-7 record will last forever. Somewhere I hope those players who were cut, a damien disgrace by any measure, find peace knowing they never quit on their team, the team quit on them. The next coach will hopefully clean house and all the unqualified coaches will hopefully disappear. Unfortunatley not soon enough for this senior class. Here's a piece of advice for future Damien football parents. Stop worrying about playing time and start demanding a quality coaching staff. Practices should be wars and a test of your mental toughness as well as a tremendous daily learning and bonding experience. Just contrast and compare Diamond Ranch and Damien this year. Both were 1-6 at one time. One is playing for a Championship this week and the other is looking for a coach. One is loaded with next level players while the other has players looking for a ride. One is a team and the other is losing players in midseason. The truth is football is a tough sport played by tough people. The toughest lesson in football is you're not good enough. Some look for a way to get better and change that while others look for excuses and oblame. Damien needs to look at itself and stop blaming others who told them to take a good look at their beloved program years ago. Enjoy college and the rest of your senior year gentlemen. Tomorrow is promised to no one.
tall tale sale,
and as for you and your little blog.
BS? yeahh right.
my brother wasnt given medical clearance. i was in the room when the doctor signed the form that he wasnt released and watched nick beg my mom not to give to the trainer and she didnt.
as a matter of fact i have the form that says he wasnt released. would you like a copy?
so much for your comeback.
get your story straight.
:)
seriously, the things you read on here are ridiculous.
anyways..talk all the trash you kids want on here its useless and gets you nowhere except your statisfaction of putting someone down and thats fine if that makes you happy.
as for my brother nick sale go ahead say what you want no one cares. i watched him prepare and work his butt off all season and off season so dont start with bs. nick along with alex gomez had nothing but heart. i witnessed it during practice and on the field.
my brother along with the majority of the team had nothing but great expectations for their season unfortunately things didnt play out the way we all had hoped for.
i watched my brother play through all his injuries for the team. & no hes not a hero for doing it, i never said that, all im trying to get across is that he was in it for the team until he wasn't "needed" anymore when he got hurt. These boys that had so much dedication and determination shouldn't of had their season taken away from them and it shouldn't of ended the way it did, but like we all know "everything happens for a reason."
whoever is writing these stupid blogs, that even im embarassed to conform to after all that has been said about nick, this is for you:
i hope it makes you feel good to write on here and trash my brother, alex gomez, and gus flores because "they walked out on the team". If this is your way of saying "We missed you" then you write beautiful words. trust me those boys didnt need you then and they dont need you now. Unlike you they've moved on.
nick, alex, gus, and seniors it been fun watching you guys play and im sad that its over. all i can say is goodluck<3
As the parent of a starting senior player who played his last football game a few weeks ago - I can honestly say, I never saw, was offered to sign, nor heard of a letter. I am postively sure that if there was one, I would have at least been given the opportunity to read it and then have been given the decision to sign it - or not. Not one of the senior parents I talk to saw or heard of a letter either. I know of several who would NOT have signed it if it was presented to them, and I know of a few who would have, if it were. The decision to fire Coach from my understanding was one that came from the alumni and longtime Damien supporters/followers - this info from several alumni in the know.
I am sad for Coach for many reasons but I do believe a change at this time is good for the future of Damien football players and the coach too!
If you think about it, why would senior parents demand the coach be fired? Why would the administration listen to these parents? Next year means nothing to us, to our sons, or to Damien as a whole. The junior parents would have many more reasons to see the coach gone for their boys' senior football season.
I went to every football game the Class of 2009 played from their freshman year to their varsity year. From my parent's perspective, the best years were the freshman and soph years when the boys were playing for fun and with heart and quite frankly, they just played! In 2007 it was all about the 2008 varsity Senior players and we as junior parents patiently waited for our boys turn when they would be seniors and would see starting play time. If our junior boys did see play time, their stats were not recorded on max preps. If the class of 2009 football parents are frustrated and venting, they have reason to be. How many 2009 seniors really, truly started games in 2007 and 2008? Is it wrong for senior parents to want to see their boys play varsity football? In their junior year, I can think of only three and maybe eight starters this season. Only one of our team captains (Jake) was a "starter". Keep in mind that with so few class of 2009 players starting their junior year, they didn't have alot of starting varsity experience for their senior year. And then during "not so hell week" of their senior year, the coach changed some players positions - you know the ones they knew, liked and practiced for the three previous years. It was like starting all over again - and with a a very poorly run pre-season practice, well the writing was on the wall. Many seniors did lose their new position to a junior player who knew how to better play the position the senior was recently moved to. It was crazy and I admire the boys, especially those who hung on and adapted throughout the season. As for my boy, once he was moved back to his original playing position (game 6 I believe it was), his stats went way up and he started playing with the same fire he had his fresh, soph, and junior years. I must admit the first few games he looked confused and lost. I did ask him one time what was going on and where was his intensity? He told me, "he was too afraid to make a mistake." I left it at that because I knew what he meant. He was trying too hard to do it the way the coach wanted him to because to do it any differently, even when the coach as wrong, there would be punishment - a junior would take your position.
Why wasn't Ethan the starting q/b? Was it because the coach's junior son was on the varisty team that most of the juniors started - even James as QB when it should have been Ethan from game one and who, by the way had varsity game experience. James is an awesome kid, an athlete, and has fantastic potential - but he wasn't ready to start the first game of the season, and his first varsity game, and I do believe his confidence was shattered during that game which spilled over into the second and then game after game, for the rest of the season. And I DO believe this is the head coach's fault! No doubt, James will be ready for his senior year...but would he be starting q/b next year if Coach Mo was still the head coach?
So, we had a losing season. Many more juniors started and played key/skill positions than the senior players. So who is at fault for THIS losing season? Junior players? Senior players? Coaches? If you have to assign blame, then I would personally blame the coaches, all of them, more than the kids.
Might I remind you students, players, and parents, this is HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. A High School Coach's job is to teach FOOTBALL, to recognize the strength of players and bring out their abilities and talent to play the game, and to put their team into a position to WIN or at least be in the game. I don't mind a losing season of well played and well coached close games. I do mind season after season of coaching mistakes, coaches and players looking confused, half-time non-adjustments, stupid play calling and losing by blow-out scores.
I love what happened at the Upland/Los Oso game Friday night. The players developed a trick play and called their own play in the game resulting in 7 points! Wow! What an experience for these kids and what a confidence builder is was for them which lead to a blow-out performance! And the Coach let them do it! Coach Mo WOULD HAVE NEVER ALLOWED SUCH CREATIVITY from his players - just trust me on that one!
Coach Morrison has made some very poorly thought out coaching decisions...I have had the opportunity to ask many current and ex-football coaches this question, "what position player on your team do you NOT play both on offense and defense in the same game?". Without fail, these well respected coaches tell me the q/b. When I said our high school football coach did last year....and even in the play off game, they without fail said, "that's just dumb - you never play your q/b on defense in the same game". Last year's Damien team with over 80 players couldn't find another player to play safety so Danny could rest between possessions? Not one single player on that team of over 80 players? Maybe some coaching could have helped find that Safety so Danny could sit out a play or two.
Yes, the season is over and it was disappointing - especially to the senior class. Good luck next year, juniors! Let's see if you can put it together with the right coaching...an opportunity this year's senior class never had.
rgd:
"Gano allready has most of his staff set if (they) and (he) decide its the right move. and its a great staff !!!"
Well, his staff on D (and the O-line) isn't too hard to guess. And there is a very intriguing rumor for his QB-coach...
It would be an impressive varsity staff, but... Does he have some dedicated and willing lower level coaches lined up (hopefully ones willing to run the same system/techniques as the rest of the program this time)?
good move.
your only 4 years off on gano.
mm, lets see . so that means 8-10 years.
yeah, your right, 8 - 10 is not a very long time at one program. nice try !!!
Fact: It took Pasqy 5 years to win a TRI-CHAMPIONSHIP at Damien.
Fact: Morrison won two in five years (Co-champs the first year with Chino who they beat 14-3 under Monger and his recruits).
Fact: Pasqy left because he found out he couldn't recruit and the retirement wasn't that great.
Fact: Morrison tried to get quality coaches into the program and was shut down by the power to be!
Fact: Larson won a championship against Ganesha in 77 & tied in 82 to Ramona. A far cry from running the gauntlet of Canyon,Hart, Corona Centineal,Mission Viejo Etc. It is not even close and in Morrison's first year they were thirty four seconds from beating the great Harry Welch after Nate Longshore was taken off the field. Ganesha, Ramona= Canyon Country, Corona Centinial, Norco.
Not even close. Morrison worked for the players harder then Pasqy or Larsen....timing is everything!! Two years ago he would of been vieing for a ring and now he is looking for a job! WOW!
So let me get this straight. Damien's answer is to hire 55 year old Gano or 60+ year old Monger? yen in 4 or 5 years they are looking for another coach. Good move.
BS nick no one , not even coach morrison or the trainer, would allow you to play without medical clearance. like brother like brother. tall tale sale...ha ha ha...you're famous tall tale sale....fresure dude...keep telling everyone the same lie your brother does that you were heavily recruited but decided to go in another direction or in this case the coaches at damien had it in for you. is your brother still the director of bs at south hills or was it usc....tall tale sale...ha ha ha
bs-
your wrong !!!
gano was there for 3 hours talking to the two of them.
haha okay fersure dude
They haven't interviewd yet
Damien Update ;
its down to Gano and Monger. both had there interview. Gano allready has most of his staff set if (they) and (he) decide its the right move. and its a great staff !!!
nicky...you've been a bad boy...and you know why...and now so do i...you've been smoked out..ha ha ha...why all the back stabbing...lucky for you everyone loves you...ha ha ha...enjoy never coming back from an achillies....it doesn't happen...ask your brother...he knows everything....and done everything....or so he tells every one ....every time...is he on medication for all his compulsive exaggerating...ha ha ha...yup you're famous...now so is your brother..ha ha ha
haha i love being talked about that all the time on here..makes me feel famous haha
like how i fractured my elbow 2 days before the first game and still played..
how bout when i reinjured my surgery knee and came back the next week and played against bishop..
or how bout when we were getting killed against CO and i was still in and got hurt and tore my ligaments in my ankle and achilles tendon and still getting treatment for it right now and still came back to play the opener again chino hills even tho my season should have been most likely over...
nick sale disnt play for the team?? haha thats funny
none of you parents had no clue what was going on in the lockeroom. you say i quit on the team? i like how most of the team is friends with me still and all came up to me and shook my hand after leaving the locker room for the last time. i bet your son was probably one off the many who came up to me and said they were glad to play with me on the field.
after i got hurt..they didnt want me anymore..i was no one to them. every practice i would go to and watch and try to motivate the players who still had more in them (jason reyes jake salter trevor manly) and some other. but i was always in the way for some reason. not one coach asked me how i was doing or they would tell me to go to the trainers room and do more work.
if you would like to tell me everything you guys love to post on this website to my face then go ahead. i get a good laugh about it. and it also gives me good stories to talk about in class.
as far as college football..i have talked to some coaches at the division 2 and 3 levels and have had interest in me playing at their program. im currently rehabing and getting in shape in case i do want to take my game to the next level.
all i have to say is thank you to the parents, teammates, and friends who have supported me through my 4 years and the decisions i made. i really did appreciate it. as for those who are against me, you can keep running your mouth cuz its really not a big deal..its over the season is over so..get over it!! good luck to the team next year! would like for your guys season to be enjoyable and not miserable like it was this past season.
Now why are they denying the exsistence of a letter which 30 Senior parents proudly signed. Why sign and have Scott Morrison fired and than pretend it never happened? Did the Senior parents think this was going away and no one would ever find out who they were like all those drive by comments over the years. I have other ideas. This is my X-Mas present to the Damien family. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so gander up senior parents. The letter will be downloaded very soon for all to see. And then we can judge for ourselves who is telling the truth.
does anyone have a copy of this letter? there are senior parents who didn't sign the letter but were asked, someone please bring this decisive rumor to an end and come clean. was there a letter sent or not? maybe the junior parents weren't asked but i heard the senior parents were starting trouble on their way to the liqour store
now that sarkisian is gone any chance for morrison to stay local? the trojans play of saturdays and the spartans play of friday so it might work from a logistics stand point
chavez is a liar with an agenda
be careful with the stories and ideas you spread.
there was no letter/petition.
tailgating went on as usual.
the seniors who were quitters/losers are in the minority. not all of the seniors were bad guys, just a few.
seriously,
do you know about the letter of no confidence? coach chavez told the class it had the emdorsemen of at least 30 parents and essentially became the straw that broke the camel's back. i don't think coach chavez should have told the students but he's always had an axe to grind with scott since he was relieve of his coaching duties this year you can pin most of the rumors starting in his class room
hey big man i don't see you revealing your name online.
i don't have a kid on the team, so you're wrong again. but that's not surprising because everything you've posted is bs. i like the way you completely ignored how i answered your arguments. but hey, what can you do? you know you're wrong.
this isn't about juniors vs. seniors. it's about some losers who walked out on their teammates because they didn't get their way. there are seniors who don't support what they did by quitting. these guys are selfish and there is no other reasonable explanation.
Attn all junior Damien footbal players - when either Gano or Farrar get the Damien job you wont have to worry about getting playing time because you will be off the team! THey will be bringing in their own guys. Also, Monger has no shot at becomeing the next coach because he will bring Roche with him, who hates damien.
its probably better that you dont say your name... your kid or you(if your a player) would get your ass kicked if you revealed your name..
trust me.... this team is not going to win anything next year so there is nothing to ruin... If i told you all of the (off the field) problems the returning team has, you would be siding with me.
PS.
Im sorry that you or your son hasnt seen playing time this year. But thats no reason to talk $hit about the problems of other players.
my suggestion to you...
if your a player... Quit bitching, step up and be a leader, and play football
If your a parent... quit embarrassing your kid and his (class of 2010), shut up, and just nderstand that your kid isnt good enough to play football...
Tell him to try golf. i hear they have a good golf team.
what about you? are you parent, alumni, or player? perhaps you should be careful about what you believe. unless of course you are one of these guys or their pals. in that case you are probably delusional to begin with.
the good news is... they aren't able to ruin next season too. good luck and good riddance.
i never said that britton was a quitter. i used his name in the same sentence as those other guys and maybe i shouldnt have. All i said was the he and the rest of those guys play with heart. I saw that someone was talking $hit about how he would never be able to walk on at oregon and i was defending him and the rest of these guys....
seriously,
are you a parent, alumni, or a player??????
that pretty low to be talking $hit about these guys if your a player. you see them at school, why dont you tell them that $hit to their face?
If your a parent, you shouldnt be saying anything. dont believe everything your kid tells you.
the juniors were not babies. no they were not. no not ever. never ever. ever never. so don't you go saying those mean nasty things or i'll tel on you the seniors were the babies and everything you say about me bounces right back at you!
just about everything you just wrote is bs. for you to believe any of that crap shows that you are probably one of the quitters or one of their friends.
first of all britton didn't quit. stop grouping him in with those other guys.
secondly, sale got hurt last season and never got fixed. that's on his parents. do you think damien has an md on staff or something? they have a trainer who gives first aid and holds out injured players until they are cleared by an md.
lastly, gomez wanted to play one position. the TEAM needed him to play another, he threw a fit and became a cancer. he took a couple of guys down with him before he finally quit. if you can't see that, you are either an idiot or one of his friends.
oh well, this season is over and the true spartans don't have to worry about those guys ruining next season too.
why are all of the "underclassmen" players throwing out everyone's dirty laundry?
#1) the parents dont know anything about what goes on in the locker room. All they know is whatever their pu$$y a$$ kid comes home to tell them... I bet none of those sellouts would say any of that $hit to (Nick, ALex, Britton, and Gus) to their face.
#2) how can you say this senior class is one of the worst at Damien. Previous classes had the worst attitudes toward coaches and basically didnt care about the team toward the end (ex) class of 2008. Furthermore, they were greatly influenced by their daddy's and bitched all of the time when they didnt get their way.
#3)Nick, Alex, Gus, and Britton are all guys that play with heart. I know all of them personally and i can see why they quit.
-the Coaching staff basically ruined nick's chances of playing college ball (D1). He hurt is knee junior year and he wasnt properly taken care of. Senior year, he re-injures his knee(season ending) and suddenly the coaches want him back in a few weeks. So nick pulled himself togehter and played until he hurt it again. How does that not show heart.
there is more but i dont want to embarrass the coaching staff anymore than they have been.
-Alex quit basically because he got blamed for everything that the team did wrong. Yeah, maybe he should have still been a leader and stuck with it but, how can you stick with a coach who blames the loss of a game on you when you only played one play during a specific game.... it wasnt even a game changing play.
besides these guys werent the only guys who quit... there were several other decent players who quit because of the coaching... what does that say about the coaches?
It is never good to quit on your team, however this year's team should not even been considered a team.
the junior class is the most cockiest group of players i have ever seen. If there is any senior class that you should be worried about, it is this one. This group is a perfect example of kids who only care about personal stats, playing time, and all league honors.
the juniors also never played with heart. They gave up when they were down and the seniors basically had to put up with the embarassment of kids crying after losses.
To those parents who think they know eveything,
keep your mouth closed and get your facts straight before you start talking about the team. Dont embarrass yourselves.
*tip* Before you guys start talking about how this team is going to go all the way next year... i am telling you not too because this team aint doing $hit next year.

31 parents can't be wrong,
Gus Flores was too slow(no one was jealous of him he was actually well respected on the team till he quit....twice) , Alex Gomez couldn't tackle(i was rooting for him but it didn't work out=/), Nick Sale was great until he got hurt(very disappointed in him) , Britton Williams did the best he can but couldn't handle the pressure(played great when the games didn't matter i.e. diamond bar, chino). I love these kids but no matter what you never quit on your team. that just shows lack of morals and character. Best of luck to these boys and everyone else it wasn't as good as everyone wanted it to be but its over and now its time to move on.
I couldn't agree more. As for the post before with the NFL comment and such. Laughing my A$$ right now with that stuff. Ask Nick Sale's brother, who is what? And has accomplished what? As for the rumor of steroids and Gus, that one is bogus just by looking at him. You don't do steroids and have that belly. As for the great Alex Gomez being coached by former this and that, guess he didn't get his money's worth, cuz as hard as he could have hit, he mostly tackled with his forearm or shoulder. Again, a cocky sacare kid with Bull Crap for parents who inflated his ego into the moron he is.
Seriously you nailed it, your team was "gutless" and full of "quitters" but mostly your team was made up of drunk parents and front running fans. The "team" never came together and this senior class was the worst one in Damien's hstory. Always complaining about "playing time" and "personal accomplishments". They never supported the underclassmen or showed any leadership whatsoever. The locker room was mess! And as a final act of cowardice tover 30 senior parents signed a letter of no confidence proving the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Next year Damien will rebound no matter who the coach is!
Seriously, you must not be in the know or are just a hater and wished you played at their level. Gus Flores is considering walking on at USD. Gus was never given a chance because he was the strongest player on the team, and rumors of steriods hounded him without merit, causing others to become extremely jealous of his physique. Alex has worked with a personal trainer for 2 years and is personally coached by a former USC and NFL player in the nuances of defensive play. Many of Coach Mo's techniques actually held Alex back from certain greatness. Alex ran the team's fastest shuttle and was the best hard hitting tackler. Coach Mo always blamed everything on Alex and it finally got to him. Can you blame him after three years of steallar performances? Nick was scheduled to be a D1 athlete, ask his brother, but never was given the proper treatment for the knee he injured his junior year. Again who's fault is that? Britton might be annoying but he has the best chance of any current Damien player of making it to the NFL if he walks on at Oregon and takes his Dad with him.Three years on varsity means he's got potential. Maybe your career is over but these boys have what it takes to successful if only given a chance to shine. Time will tell. Best of luck to the heart and soul of the class of 2009, Nick, Alex, Gus and Briton. As poor as our record might have been tis year we will still have at least 4 players sign letters of intent very soon. So to all the doubters and haters out there hate all you want but don't blame the players. They did their job.
National Inquire,
Are you serious with that stuff? Alex Gomez is has a better shot at making all-league "i love myself" trophies than walking on anywhere. Britton Williams doesn't have a shot, and Nick Sale has seen his last days as a football player. I played with all of these guys, only difference is Britton. He stayed and fought his butt off even though he was annoying sometimes. The other two jerk-offs, bailed because one felt he wasn't "loved" enough by our coaches, and the other never even showed up for meetings. He bailed weeks before he ever said anything. They are both losers as far as I'm concerned. The funny part is, our team was so gutless, no one even told these guys anything, they just let it happen. Flores was a 2 time quitter, guess no one cared to mention that
how old is Coach Larson?
how long before the alumni turn on the next coach?
how many offers does morrison really have?
why is it with all that tradition almost half the coaches prior experience is either OLA, Pop Warner, CYO or DEEP Pocket Dads?
Is it true over 30 senior parents signed a letter of no confidence?
any chance the Carrolls stay on with the next coach?
will it be a condition of employment for the new coach?
is it true that some of morrison's biggest fans orchestrated that behind the back move to get him fired?
who made all league?
how many seniors will get scholarships this year?
any truth to the rumor alex gomez and nicholas sale are walking on at oregon with briton williams?
the only recent tradition at damien is it's better to have attended OLA than not to have attended OLA
inquiring minds want to know
who didn't?
Damien High School has been to the CIF finals 4 times - That's tradition. They have been to the semi's 8+ times - that's tradition. They have one 2 CIF ttiltes. Did you know that under Larson they only had one losing record in 22 years (1984 -4-5-1)and only missed the playoffs one time (1984)
That sounds like tradition to me. They have one at the very least a dozen league titles from 1975-2008. Not sure if there have been more or less but it is very close to 12.
I have personally observed Gano’s and Bobby Godinez’s programs. Without a doubt there is no comparison between the two programs. Bobby runs a real football program from top to bottom and you see the results on the field. The LA team this year is a direct result of the way Gano runs his program. The talk on the street is Bobby and his 8 man, 35 player program is going 11 man next year and one of the first teams on their schedule is LA. I am putting my money on Godinez.
Just for the record a Bobby Godinez lead Damien team would destroy a Gano lead Damien team.
I hope the point of the post came across that you don't have to win championships every year to have tradition. MANY schools have a tradition of excellence, while championships are for the very few.
For your informatiom,
Damien has won two CIF Championships 1977 and 1982 under Dick Larson and numerious apperances in the Semi-finals.
Tradition ,
Can you name the schools that have "Tradition"?
I was looking through some stuff a while back and I noticed that in our division we are one of only SEVEN schools that have won titles since 1990. SEVEN schools!!! And only FOUR of us have multiple championships. Does that mean only FOUR schools in the highest division have "tradition" because we have more titled than Damien?
Does that mean all the other schools are failing? Does Edison have a football "tradition"? They're not on that list of SEVEN. How about Fountain Valley? Not since 1988. Servite must... nope...not a championship since 1983! St John Bosco... NONE! They have no tradition?
Try walking into one of the practices of any of those schools in the highest division and tell them they have NO tradition. You can't ... unless you're willing to admit that Amat is one of only four schools that has "tradition". But you can't have it both ways.
My point is this spartan man threw and through, it DON'T matter who your next coach is!! Its not like your gonna win any C.I.F. titles. Larson, 1 title, Pasqy, 0 titles, Morrison, 0 titles. Get the picture!! You guys kill me thinking you have some kind of "tradition" over there. What is the "tradition"....To not win championships. Damien is exactly what Larson, Pasqy, and Morrison have done with it, 500 football with a few good years here and there. Nothing More!!
YOUR A JOKE- " your a joke" as you have called yourself. As a casual observer how should I know the Sierra league decides on the game time. Nonetheless you have failed to address the other issues I brought up in my post except to sarcastically say why dont I coach the o-line and also be the head coach? That is redundant , and furthermore you can't even spell tradition> DUH- I suspect you didn't attend Damien- your a JOOOOOOKE!
rgd2626, You are right about a very good softball player. But If you think Gano is a good coach today you are sadly mistaken. Look at Los Altos, One year removed and they hit the bottom of the Valley. He has is not in-tune with today's youth. His football knowledge is dated. Gano is mentally and physically out of shape. Damien don't waste your time with Gano move on!!!
Gano will be talking to damien after the holidays.
another school might be getting a very good softball player in 2010 !!!
I would be surprised to see Gano go to Damien with his daughter just a sophmore at LA and he is still coaching her, I think he once said it was a dream to be able to coach her. He did a pretty good job as a softball coach last year and I expect them to be bettter this year.
Hey Spartan man threw and through, maybe you should try and be the next head coach since you have all the answers. Damien does not decide what times the games start, the Sierra league does. Hey on second thought maybe you could coach the o-line as well. You guys talk about all this Damien tradation yet you have never noticed that Damien has only won 1 C.I.F. championship. 1, one, uno. Damien is a joke. You guys think you are all that but yet in your guys 50 years or so you have only 1 title. Well, I hope to see you coaching their next year so you can "continue" the great tradation.
ConqFan
Spoken like a true idiot.
Godinez sucks Cartman's balls.
bobby godinez has the persona of a pet rock and we all know its his buddy rodriguez posting a D fan saying he doesnt know his name...nice try...stay with the lil fish younster
LV Lutheran will be in the Christian League next year.
News Flash LaVerne Lutheran plays 8 man.
To all San Gabriel valley football fans & players I say happy holidays and to the Damien community and administration I say HAPPY FESTIVUS- because just like Frank Constanza I have a list of grievances that must be heard in regards to the Damien football program.I am a former spartan player who is a member of the 80 team ( whom beat amat)and we were mot very big or fast. We lost our starting QB one month before the season when he was killed in a car accident.( Scott Meyer- A fine human being, leader and captain) I played in college( small college) and none of our players went on to the big time, not even Joe Vigil our super stud wide receiver- he went to minnesota and almost froze to death after 2 yrs at msa. nonetheless, what we had on that team was a bunch of guys who knew the fundamentals and rules of the game, and most of us never payed tackle football until our freshman year. So whats my point?
(1) The fundamentals of each and every position are not being coached/taught at the lower level at Damien, and many kids are not being properly evaluated for the positions that would suit them and the team better.
(2) Apparently coach morrison and or admin decided that several juniors and seniors whom were part of the program, practiced, and suited up , went to all the meetings and otherwise met their football obligations were cut from the team this year after hell week. That is just wrong. If you have been on the team for 2-3 years prior and meet all the commitments despite having limited skills you deserve to run on to the field in uniform with all the team especially if you are a senior whom stuck it out for 3 prior years!
(3) also this past season there were no 2 a days for Damien , just one 3 hour practice and it showed. When i saw games this year the team looked lethargic, men out of position and in bad condition- winded from the running. A team bonds during the 2 a days, learns more about the game and their respective positions by being immersed in the game for that 2 a day period through the comraderie and or osmosis, etc.,
(4) Over the past few years the o-line has looked slower and slower, and that is disturbing, because no matter how talented your backs and receivers are, if the o-line and d-line is not hustling downfield or quick enough to make that trap block the offense stalls and or that50,70,80 yd td does not happen.I will say this and with emphasis the most important attribute for a high school football team is speed, speed, speed and more speed, did I say speed is important? yes, aren't you sorry you asked? Oh you didn't. anyways the only way to develop that team speed is to run the team to near death, and run some more, and speed and quickness will follow and then the defensive ends, linebackers and dbs of the opposition wont be able to read the play because the tackles and guards are sitting back on their heels on the pass plays- which is something I have seen on a regular basis at games.
(5) The games should start at 7:30 instead of 7 pm , because in this modern day and age with 2 parents working and more and more traffic and logistical issues the already solid crowd for Damien home games would probably be increased by another 10-15%, and then alot of the stragglers who now arrive midway through the 2nd quarter and wait till half time to enter the game for free will actually spend the $$ to buy a seat since they are now arriving in the beginning of the 1st quarter, etc., bla bla bla,
(6) When I attended the damien amat game this year I was in awe of the tailgating barbecues and glorious build up to the game being enjoyed by the Lancer fans, and I complimented them on their wise, industrious and logical decision of starting the game at 7:30 instead of 7. that 1/2 hour difference makes alot of difference , especially on a friday night!
(7) I have other more specific issues about some of what I have witnessed as a former player and fan, and so maybe I should just get a life. I want to extend my thanks to Coach Morrison for his efforts and 2 league championships, I know he is a quality guy , and that some of us alumni can be very demanding and may have some unreal and lofty expectations for the spartan program, but if the parents, admin, players and coaches recognize the strength and weaknesses address them and the come up with a plan to improve, there is no doubt, " we'll return again!'
Godinez. He should be our coach right now.
What about the La Verne Lutheran head football coach. I'm a die hard Damien fan and there was major buzz this football season about the new Lutheran football team, in our backyard! Apparently he's played college and NFL football and tunred a pretty poor program into a CIF contender this year, after just one year.
A YOUNG smart football coach may be just what Damien needs. Someone to breathe life into a program with updated knowledge. I don't know the name, so if anyone does then fill me in (no info on their website). I do know, however that the kids, faculty and parents think the WORLD of this guy. Lets go get him, I don't want to miss out on a college caliber coach due to the fact another coach has had great players in the past and developed a resume because of it.
Go D
Hey invisable three,
If you think by posting my real name it will validate Scott Morrison as a geat coach or even better a great man, than I`ll play along. My name is Manuel Gonzalez. There, do you feel better now that my name is on the blog. Scott will find his place at another high school or college because he is a trieless worker in the film room and football field. Scott is committed to growing a players talent, but more important he grows there ability to be men through football. I cannot say the about you. Now what do you have to say about that Invisible three?
Wonder IF anyone has pointed out to GG that Amat plays Damien on a fairly regular basis?
Does anyone know if Amat/Damien FB will meet next season?
Any names in the mix to replace Gano?
D1 or Not
Nobody gets to me. I'm having the time of my life.
By the way, it was you that through the first hate. I said Glendora spends plenty of time in the weight room. YOU immediately had to throw in the D1 crap. Why can't you just except that Glendora spends alot of time in the weight room. This is undisputable. Besides, who the hell cares. I'm glad you support your school, Damien. Nothing wrong with that. Damien had a GREAT year a couple of seasons ago. Couldn't repeat it though. Glendora had two good seasons in a row. Hopefully they will have a good CIF run this time. Though, its really hard to blame last years CIF run on the team. Not many schools, if any, in the State would have beat Corona.
With due respect, have a happy Thanksgiving.
Also, I don't think Pasky is experiencing any more rowdy parents than any other HS coach. Couldn't say the same for Morrison.
Saint Tratan didn't all the Damien players other than Rabe walk on?
I highly doubt Coach Pasqy is getting over whelmed by any of the parents or the booster club.
And I am talking big picture here not just one or two years so try to stay with me on this one.GHS is very fortune to have a very good coach but the parents are driving him crazy be careful before you loose him. Quite blowing smoke up the kids butts and let your coach do his job.
Posted by: D1 or Not | November 26, 2008 8:13 PM
I believe he has a great relationship with the parents.
Dont say Sh*t out of your mouth. Because thats just stupid.
Oh and Carl Schmitz from Damien is @ a D1 school also, Fresno St.
EAT THIS
i thought you were done !!! guess he got to you. that is what he was trying to do, you lose...
Eat don’t get all but hurt because your son was not good enough to play at the next level he had a real nice high school career. I like your boy a lot…really I do.
You like many of the other parents in Glendora just need a reality check. The kids are not good just because you say so, I know that is counter to what the kids are taught but it is reality. Hard work and integrity that is what Damien stands for on and off the field.
And I am talking big picture here not just one or two years so try to stay with me on this one.GHS is very fortune to have a very good coach but the parents are driving him crazy be careful before you loose him. Quite blowing smoke up the kids butts and let your coach do his job.
D1 or Not
Your an idiot. Your hate for Glendora is somehow blocking your nerons from firing. Re read my original post. I said the Tartans have more muscle than Damien and some how your hate for Glendora had you spewing nonsense regarding D1. Tell me about how many Damien kids went D1 since Ian Johnson. How about prospects off this years team? Do you think Kaluzny or BJ Gonzales might have a chance from Glendora. Lets ask a third party like the Scouting Guru which of the two schools has a better chance of producing D1 prospects from todays athletes. Quit living in the past. Damiens record the last two years speaks for itself. I guarantee you there are more kids on the Glendora squad lifting 300 pounds and more than the Damien squad. Were talking weight room Mr. D1 or not, thats it. Not all GREAT HS Athletes advance to D1, some arn't even interested. And don't sit on your high stool telling me my son wasn't any good. All League, All CIF and All Area just doesn't happen to poor athletes.
EAT, Your son was not good enough. This isn’t about being a professional football player he was a solid HS player but that’s it, come to terms with it there is nothing wrong with that especially at GHS.
Your post was started by somehow thinking Glendora players were better equipped to play the game.My point is very clear if they are so well prepared why they don’t advance to the next level like the Damien boys do (reread the post if you need to be reminded of the names). GHS boys don’t because they can’t.
There isn’t a football player in the valley that isn’t playing the game with the dream to play at the next level (irregardless of his chances) but as usually you’ll claim Glendora is different.
Your right you should stop posting your making a fool of yourself.
Lame Three, nothing has changed. No one ever stands by Scott when he needs them. No one! And now that includes you.
Sad but true!
"sleep with one eye open...... hugging your pillow tight!"
D1 or NOT
I guess now your saying my son wasn't good enough to play D1? You would know better then me. Your right man. THIS IS GLENDORA. He doesn't need a free ride to pay for a decent education. He knows he wouldn't play pro, so he'll get a quality education and get a quick start on his business career and not waste any of his time.
I know you better than you think. Your not smart enough or wealthy enough to get a good education without getting a "FREE RIDE" on a sports ticket.
That why you hate Glendora so much? Chill out man. You think some very good athletes who choose not to play football after HS are either stupid or must really stink?
Need not write back, though somehow I fear you will. I'm done.
Lame Three? Your name?
a coaches friend ...why the screen name?
DHS07...same goes for you.
at least come forward and acknowledge you friend or coach openly
that was always morrison's problem....no public support for him and a lot of behind the back whispers that doomed him at every turn
and the beat goes on...
pretty lame
That’s even funnier Eat, as if your players have some many more options that they can turn down quality educations associated with a D1 school. Dude your talking Glendora school district not many kids even qualify to get into D1 type schools….look at the numbers.
Typical Glendora response, try to save face…yea we produce great players who choose not to play at the next level. My kid could have gone on to play D1 but he choose not to….lol
D1 or Not
I'm sorry Big guy, I meant to say your hate for GLENDORA is quite apparent. Did you ever think maybe some of these outstanding players have no interest in palying past High School? I know my son who was ALL League, ALL CIF and other honors, was very happy to end his football career at the HS level. Even though he was courted by some very impressive schools, he decided to get on with his real career and not chance a 1 in a million chance to ever make it in the pros.
So to say because a school doesn't produce many or any D1 prospects doesn't neccesarily mean the team is crappy. Just means this school has other options for their students.
Let me put a name out there for the Damien job.
Gilbert Jimenez, the DC at St.Paul H.S. the last ten years. Gil would bring in a tireless experienced staff to turnaround the Damiens program. He is a FOOTBALL guy through and through. He will get along with parents, bossters, and alumni because they will see his dedication to developing the kids into the best plyers and men they can be. He has ties to the collegent game regarding recruiting. His record speaks for itself a CIF record seven shutout on defense, and more than 5 apperances past the second round of the playoffs. One CIF Championship. Well there will be many of you who will say he lacks self control and is arrogant. Well I see this as his intense love for the game and his ability to prepare to stop an opponnet with great result. He also has experience coaching against many of the top teams in the Southern Section..i.e..Long Beach Poly, Banning, Carson, Bishop Amat, Notre Dame, Servite, St. John Bosco. So I think Gil deserves a shot at Damien.
GO BIG "D"
Let me just say this,
Scott Morrison and I coached together many years ago and I can truly say that he is as dedicated to ensuring that all young men who play for him developed into better football, but more important better men for having played at Damien. It`s unfortunate that Sotty Mo was let go, but I know with his knowlege and dedication he will land a job soon. As I see it, Scott could have brought in a more experienced staff to grow the program, which I believe was one of Scott`s demise in being fired. The other his unwillingness to stroke those parent`s who think they knew what was best for the program, by living their lives through their son`s. Scott is of the highest integrity and am proud to know him and his family. Scott keep your head up and learn from this experience because I know you will get another shot somewhere.
Flab,
Your funny, my hate for Coach Morison, I have no hate and none of my posts come close to insinuating that. My comments are geared toward your warped perception that the Glendora guys are more fit and tougher which is a self center view I have come to expect from Glendora parents. Do your homework, how many kids go on to play major college football from GHS? Shouldn’t take you long to come up with the number so you should have plenty of time to go watch your boys lift their way to Citrus.
OLI,
Josh Dominguez was better than Morrison's son? Are you kidding, did you ever go to practice, that kid couldn't remember plays, stopped on routes, pouted when he didn't get his number called and had major chances for big plays in both the Glendora and Ayala games. Think before you spill out that crap
D1 or NOT
You sir obviously are one of those fathers blinded by your unconditional hate of Coach Morrison. I personally could care less whether he coaches at Damien or not. My observations are not biased one way or they other. I know what my eyes see. The team needs more weight room. Are you going to argue that point? Damien has always attracted big kids with little ability. Perhaps that might be a coaching issue.
07 you light want to rethink that statement. I think that hits a little too close to home...yours actually. It's over for better or worst. Since when did people's comments interfer with poor tackling or dropped passes? If the players won more or not had the current parents not circulated a "vote of no confidence" petition to deliver to Fr. Tarvers things might be different. All the players had to do was hold the lead againt Glendora and DHS makes the playoffs and Scott keeps his job. Hell his kid caught what 46 passes this year! 25 more than Taylor and 33 more than the next reciever who had 13! Come on 07 I know you got over but does every dad that coaches there get to take advantage of the system just so their son make All League or better? 46 catches while Josh Dominguez who's far better catches 6? Come on! Turn the dad's are complaining again page. that's a tired excuse for underperforming 4 out of 6 years...2 miserably! (5-15)
Flab,
It’s been so long since you had a D1 player that you don’t even recognize the relationship to high school football.
There is not much you can tell me about related to what it takes to get a D1 ship since I have help a half of dozen kids earn theirs.
As for fact take a look at the SPARQ website and see the embarrassing scores posted by your might workout regiment.
Outsider looking in,
The reason that nobody has ever accused Coach Morrison of being a good man is because the only people from Damien that ever comment on this blog are angry dads that are trying to live their dream through their sons.. it happens every year. I remember my senior year there would even be dads who didn't have sons on the team!! Dads who would just be out there judging us looking for a flaw with the coaching. That's the problem with people these days- all they ever do is find flaws with people. Instead of saying Mo was unapproachable and arrogant, why not thank him for the 2 league titles he won. Why not look up to him for being a great family man. He loved his wife and kids i saw that first hand. Half of the dads that bash on him are divorced mid-lifers looking for somebody else to bag on to protect their own insecurities. I'm not saying you are doing this, sir, but most of the dads on here do. That goes for other schools too. Quit being so critical, it's annoying. How old are you guys, 40-50? Act like it. Grow up. Coach Mo is a human. Whether he was a good coach or not, he still deserves thanks for the time he put into the program. I know he made me a better person when i played for him, and i'll never forget it

DHS07, what made Morrison a GREAT MAN? A lot has been said about Morrison but up until now no one has ever accused him of being a great MAN. So tells us why you feel that way.
Thanks to Coach Mo for all he did for the program, he was a great man and he deserves the best wherever his next step in life may lead.
But now that we are forced to move on, i am all for hiring Coach Gano. I played against him my junior and senior season and he always put up good schemes/teams against us. Lets go Carrol! Hire Gano and lets get this program going the same way Amat is... UP
Anyone notice that Damien has two former palyers in the BCS hunt and hardly anyone is mentioning it?
Freddie Brown is at undefeated Utah and Ian Johnson, who we all remember from the Oklahioma game, is at Boise State.
Damien has the athletes. Don't let anyone put it on the kids. THAT'S A COP OUT!
Look at Bishop Amat...suddenly they have ATHLETES AGAIN???
Maybe it was Verti all along.
Hard to argue it wasn't after victories over Olu and Crespi and that showing against LB Poly.
Coaching Matters
D1 or NOT,
Listen, were talking HS football. You want to talk D1, besides muscle and ability, you better add a lot of luck,a coach who will send out film and quite a few invitations to scouts. I've seen alot of flab throughout the years, but the Tartans weight program seems to produce alot of muscle. If you want to argue that point, support your arguments with facts.
You guys over in the heights are funny, when Gano was there he walked on water, could do not wrong. He leaves and now he sucks, get real.
LA was bad this year because of one reason Gano left. Sure they wouldn’t have been a CIF contender but he would NEVER have gone 1-9 with that team. You need both good players and a good coaching to build a program. You only have the players!
I don’t expect him to invest time in LVSD PW, other then to get them recruited into his program. The young players I am referring to have been developed and know how to play the game, they will easily transition to the next level.
No different that the quality HLP PW kids who have feed the success of LA.
The future is NOW,
You expect Gano to invest time in youth programs. Well you don't know Gano at all. This guy will suck the local youth programs dry to pay for his program. Gano doesn't develop talent, he recruits talent. Look at LA, this years freshmen team went 7-3 winning league and the four years before this team were all 9-1. What happen to all that talent?
With all that muscle you would think Glendora boys would get into college and play some D1 football but we know that only happens every 5 years at best.
Been several years since there last D1 player (the older Bryant).
And will be several more before the next.
Where are they now?
The problem at Damien is not size, but maybe a quality issue. Some of those big kids you mentioned have all the size in the world but lack in ability. Ive seen this over and over again from many of the kids on the lower half of the list. The coach can only do so much. If nothing else, Damien needs to add more time in the weight room for those corn fed kids. They are BIG but gentle giants. I heard this over and over again last season and this season.
Take a tip from Coach Pasky. The Tartans have muscle where Damien has bellies! Get those kids pumping iron if they want to make a difference on the grid iron!
The only place Damien is going is…up in the standings.
And if a Monger/Gano type of coach invests the right amount of time into a feeder system like LVSD PW they will be off and running very quickly. LVSD went from being the door matt in the MT Baldy conference to being a strong opponent in a tuff conference.
I am telling you these boys are special. A high school coach somewhere is going to real happy over the next 2-4 years.
Let's keep it simple...
The biggest problem with Damien's football program is that co-ed Bishop Amat is right next door.
Although Damien has consistently produced many a phenomenal player in its past, it has never been known as a "football" school.
Throughout it's history, Damien only has 4 wins versus 20 losses and 1 tie with Bishop Amat.
Damien was placed in the Sierra League for a reason. It appears that this decision continues to be the right choice for the Spartans.
My solution...
Move Damien high school far far away from Bishop Amat and go co-ed =)
As for recruiting... LVSD Pop Warner has a particular strong group of 8th-6th graders that are primed to impact a high school program.
They are divided across two very successful teams and would love to find a high school coach interested in keeping them together.
The junior midget kids have won close to 50 games, two conference championships and trip to the western region finals. They Pee Wee are following very close in there foot steps.
Whoever gets the job needs to move quickly because these kids are made of the stuff that can help turn a program around.

"But they haven't been truly successful for a looooong time..."
Thank you for making my point for me.
Fries is a line coach. Give him a whistle, and he's fine. Give him a a clipboard, and some responsibility, and he's lost.
It's going to be interesting to see where Morrison ends up. Maybe he goes the Steve Lavin route and is done at the high school level. I read where he said he had optins every year. Time will tell. I heard Wilson may need a coach. But I see Morrison going the JC College route where he could concentrate on position coaching. Either way with this economy it's a horrible time to lose any steady paycheck.
As incredible as it may seem, given all his success, Lavin never is mentioned for any real collge jobs to this day. Not even for teh Cal State Long Beach job! That's telling seeing as many of his former players were blue chippers and made decent efforts in the NBA.
The real deal with both Morrison and Lavin were their staffs. Where are they now? Anyone clomoring for those assistants?

It's not the lack of size or speed that hurt Damien it's that lack of lower level coaches that are competent and the lack of position coaches on the defensive side of the ball that gave up yards like candy on Halloween for 5 out of the 6 years Morrison ran the program. Look it up.
The next coach at damien will continue to get size, speed and quality kids. If they bring any talent with them, coaching or player wise, well the sky is the limit.
Conqfan,
Yes recruit is MANDATORY, but at the incoming Freshman level!! Freshman or Sophmore if you are really hurting at a specific postion. But not Seniors, and NOT as a replacement for PLAYER DEVELOPMENT!
But they haven't been truly successful for a looooong time...
Conq 76
"How do you attain long-term success without quality?"
I dunno. How do you explain Ford Motor Company, and GMC? They managed to do it...
Gano's Harwell, Cody-less team of 2006 went limping into the play-offs and gave El Dorado all it could handle in the
Semi's a couple of years ago.
Look, I have respect for Gano, but more-so for Despain who built the program and was a true innovator. I suspect Despain chose Gano because either Gano completely bought into Despains system or just agreed to keep running it.
This does not mean that I believe anyone could have stepped in and won four more championships, including one against a growing and still power-house like OLU.
But so what? Bring Bogan or Farrar over to LA and they will struggle also. The Heights is a far different world then it was when I was growing up there. Not better or worse, just different.
I grew up with Jill Sterkel who won Gold medals in the olympics, whose dad played B-Ball for USC and whose mom was a varsity athelete at UCLA, all living four doors down. Living within a stones throw of both our houses was Gordie whose dad had pitched in the Dodger organization.
I played ball with the Hertels, Artie Aragon, the Reisers all D1 capable guys.
The point is, back in the 70's there was absolutely no need for "recruiting" of any kind as young atheletes were everywhere.
Much different world today, but still a hoot to go sit in the old wood stands and watch both the team and the band playing for pride and glory!
How about this for a "dream" staff
Monger (retired)
Gano (retired)
Roche (retired)
Fair (LA DC)
Layton (DR HC)
and several of "THEIR" best assistants coaching together.
The Division is in need of a DOMINATE TEAM to go against St. John Bosco, Amat, Oaks Christian and Loyola in preseason and then RUN thru the Sierra League on their way to playoff runs that will make Damien a TOP TEIR team capable of competing with the Southland's BEST!
Why not? Damien parents have money and Damien has always had size and speed. Imagine what kind of quality players those coaches would bring in?
Where who you rather play and send you son to school? Sunny and safe La Verne seems like an ideal location to start a powerhouse program.
Hey no one thought Hagerty would do what he did in one year. Maybe lightning strikes twice!
Conq76
Recruiting .....
I understand the select few are going to be loyal to Gano. The guy had Coach Curtis stuck to his right hip. "I need a running back go get me one." Gano has the same issues on the softball team. All the other coaches are doing the coaching. What is Gano going to do when Diana leaves? Let’s see how well Gano can coach a team that doesn’t have a Cody, Brigham, or Diana on it. Take away Cody and Brigham Gano wins zero CIF titles. What did Gano do at Northview or Wilson well I will tell you nothing? I would love to see Gano take that Damien job so everyone can see him for what he is.
What AD/Coach is going to come on this blog and tell all he is interested in the Damien job? A coach with no self confidence and a big ego that he needs stroked.
Gano we all can't wait till you leave, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
FredJ
Fred, now that comment of yours was not only misleading but ridiculus as well: "I'll agree the majority of teams in the Central are stronger than the Southeast, but the Southeast is stronger at the top". Don't you have to compete with the "other strong teams" in the divison to make it to the top?
Hell, I would argue if the the southeast divison is weaker than the central (as you admit to), wouldn't it make sense that the teams that make it to the top of southeast have an easier time doing so than a team in the Central divison?
Isn't this the same argument Amat uses to show their surperiorty in the SGV based on their schedule/divison/league?
Am I wrong?
ConqAlum
How do you attain long-term success without quality?
Conq81
I was at the Rancho Cucamonga game where Whitaker blew right through us, he lined up like 10 or eleven yards deep and hit the holes at full speed. Great player.
Those were not the "glory days" if you or I define the "glory days" only as winning at the highest level. However, there was as much pride, enthusisam and excitement as ever at those games as there had been when LA had lined up against St. Paul and Esperanza and the like.
I have been fortunate enough to see all the CIF championship games LA has played in and I had as much fun watching Cody and Harwell and company as I did watching the Hertels, Sprouls, Hills, and Bentons.
Conq 81'
Longevity does not equal quality.
Damien should hire John Monger as their new head coach. Monger is an excellent coach and will bring in the players. After he left Chino the program has fallen to the bottom of the sierra league. In addition his best friend Terry Roche could coach the freshman team along with varsity assistent.
ConqAlum,
This is correct…1988 was the last one Despain ever won…BUT to be fair to him and Fries…the program was made up of players from two middle schools…no recruiting…and demographics of Hacienda Heights started to change dramatically over that time…changes that didn’t lend itself to CIF Championships…also, the 95’ team w/ Dylan Aquino, Isaac Carter, and co. won league and would’ve done some serious damage in the Div 6 that Gano’s teams competed in…Div 6 in those days was made of tough Inland Empire teams…they ran into Rancho Cucamonga’s Deonce Whitiker who would go on to lead Div 1 football in rushing at San Jose St….the 96’ team went to the CIF Finals where they lost to a team full of Bishop Amat transfers at Wilson…not to mention the disaster that team was when George Barnes went ineligible midway through the season…Barnes’ backup had quit earlier in the year…and Despain and Fries found a way to win with Eddie Santos…who didn’t take one snap under center in practice or a game until the day Barnes went ineligible in Week 6 right before a huge game vs. Charter Oak…a game which the Conq’s destroyed the Chargers…there was some serious coaching going on that year…so while the ten years prior to Despain’s departure weren’t as glorious as his heyday they ended with the program on a healthy swing.
Fries has two handfuls of CIF rings…I’m not privy to what is happening w/ the frosh team this year…but I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt over a bunch of 13-14 year olds and their parents.
Sorry hs fan,
Amat doesn't have any transfers that contribute heavily. They've all been there since they were freshmen... and that's par for the course.
Brandon Bennett from Azusa is the last one to come to mind. We rarely have an influx of transfers. With the exception of Bowens who is from Washington. Not exactly a "local recruit"
OK all you experts, its all about the almighty transfer and yes solid coaching.
w covina might be the best job this year, or rowland, or glendora.
but amat transfer hs , and CO transfer hs , come on...
cif needs to toughen the transfer rules, then we will see who really is the best........
Conq 81'
"and at the time of Despain’s retirement was the offensive and defensive coordinator"
HEY, at the time of Despain's retirement, he had gone about TEN years without winning a CIF championship. Not exactly saying much about Fries' coaching abililty does it?
Fries' lack of coaching continues to this day. Ask any Frosh player, or parent.
Gano at Damien could be very good. They have good players and Gano is very good at making things happen. He's the kind of coach that can't get the tools on his own, but if the tools are given to him, he can fix a team into a championship team
It is a Done deal !!!
Monger is back ...
Frank Corona, why don’t you ever use you're name ? We all know its you, so stop acting as if you are some sort of anonymous fan.
Is it time for Charter Oak up to move up to the Central Division? When the season began, I favored a move up by both C O and South Hills, now I am only certain about the Chargers. I see that finally our local media is finally talking about Chris Allen as a legit college prospect; had he been playing against the Brehaut's and the Nunes' all year, he would have had the recognition he deserves, there never would have been a question. Same thing with Evan Williams and Tyler Perri, great size, speed, and skills. The only thing holding them back is the second tier division they play in.
With a couple of O linemen on the bubble and a whole gaggle of underclassmen looking for fame and fortune, you'd think there would be a clamor in Covina for a move up to a higher visibility League like the Baseline or Sierra and the attending attention of the upper level D.
If I was Mr. And Mrs. Thropay, or Golden, or Muema, or Rycraw or any of the others who have to make the trek up to Covina Boulevard every day I'd be in front of Wiard, Strycula, and Farrar asking about a move up in class. You guys didn't really head to Covina so you could whip up on the likes of Wilson and Bonita every year. Did you?
I wasn't talking about past years, just this year. I'll agree the majority of teams in the Central are stronger than the Southeast, but the Southeast is stronger at the top. And in our coverage area, the San Antonio's top three are better than the Sierra's top three.
Agree with Dan,
Sierra should play well with the Southeast Div teams. Inland, for all these years, has been an extremely powerful divison for our local teams. Usually Inland produces several of the top 10 teams in the State. How many Southeast teams make it to the states top 10 rank?
Fred,
Come on! If you are going to choose strength of divison for comparasions, look at the entire divison no just the local teams of that divison.
Also, don't even try to compare Inland Divison of last year (included Sierra League)to Central, Southeast or any of our other local divisons. Central is new this year. Yes, it isn't nearly the strength of last years Inland. But, CO has taken part in the same weak divison year after year. Yea, CO beat Glendora last season - 1 score in the last 20 seconds and Glendora beat CO the year before - 1 score in the last 20 seconds. Whoppie do. Seams pretty evenly matched to me.
This year Glendora is having a better season than CO passing, receiving and running yardage.
Fred D.
I think a better fit would be to move the Sierra into the Southeast Div. with the San Antonio
Miramonte, Pacific, & the
Del Rio, the Sierra teams would match up well with those leagues.
They should Move Charter Oak into the Sierra League and Move Diamond Bar to the Miramonte. This would be a good switch for both teams.
I'll take the Southeast Division's top four over the Central Division's top four..I mean, didn't South Hills already beat Ayala? Didn't West Covina already beat Glendora. Didn't 5-6 Diamond Ranch barely lose to Chino Hills 22-21. Didn't Charter Oak tie No. 1 Rancho Cucamonga on the road....
Last year Glendora got more coverage and this year Charter Oak did. I wonder why, maybe because Charter Oak is 10-0-1 and the best team in our area not named Bishop Amat. I've always said teams having the best years deserve the most converage. Last year that was Glendora, this year it's Charter Oak. And still, Glendora was on the cover against Diamond Bar, we sent a photographer to their game against El Dorado, and we had photo's against Ayala in the finale. And we also have covered every one of their games, including the one in Hemet. I mean, what do you want? And how many times to I have to explain this, teams in the Miramonte, Valle Vista and San Antonio leagues are mostly all area teams, so when they play each other, it's more inviting for us because we get to photo two teams instead of one. In Glendora's case, they play more out-of-area teams, so it's much tougher picking one of their games over two Tribune teams, but we do our best.
cohs,
1 team doesn't make a tough divison son. You want to end this argument? Lets talk all teams in your division compared to teams in central or inland. Just what I thought, cat gots your tongue son.
By the way, let me know next time you play a team the caliber of Corona Cenntenial in your playoff division. I'd love to see that game! Oh, I forgot there isn't a team in the state the caliber of Corona Cenntenial.
CO, your a big fish in a small pond. Infact, no other team with your talent, plays in such a weak league and divison. The funny thing is ALL OTHER TEAMS know it!
And by the way, 5 teams last season broke the CO contract (almost have your schedule). Do you think they broke it because you guys were so tough of a component? Look and see who these teams picked up instead of playing CO. Perhaps it was for a different reason?
Fred,
i bet even DR gets more love from you than our own local coverage team glendora. you know its true.
the guy is right, i will also bet co has 2 or more times more space in the trib. give us the numbers fred if you dare.
saint tartan,
YOU GUYS LOST TO WEST COVINA A TEAM THAT IS IN ARE DIVISION. and the last time i checked we beat you too and don't want to reschedule. And Chris Allen can easily throw for 3,000 yards somewhere else but charter oak has a perfect balance offense with chris having 1,600 yards and Adam Muema having 1,600 yards i would take him over drew anyday. you guys are probally going to lose to upland so good luck with your basketball season.
Did I hit a nerve? The reality is if we all "minded our own business" there wouldn't be much discussion now, would there? And when did it become YOUR business?
Coach Rollinson makes some big bucks over at Mater Dei and he is worth every cent of it. Hagerty just proved that if you want to win and get some blue chipper coming to play for you it does not come at a cheap cost. Amat learned that by taking on a inexperience coach in Verti to try to save bucks only to see the program go down the drain. Hagerty to the rescue and all is well in Lacerland again. The only thing that really suffered during the Verti years were the talented players and the parents that paid for that mess. Gano to Damien would be a good thing, he is a proven winner.
It's funny, because Charter Oak people have been complaining that we don't them enough.
Posted by: FredJ | November 24, 2008 2:56 PM
Yea because their used to having every little thing spoon fed to them. Like their schedual and division. You really should get off CO Fred, I did like the Article about Azusa also, I know there a great team at their own skill level, and I liked the blog on Chris Allen. But isnt D.Kaluzny making bigger and better plays then him? Just a thought.
Here in Glendora were used to the unlove from you and from the old Aram.
I have no respect for Gano. He saw Los Altos was taking a dive and just bailed on the team. He is not a good coach he just had a lot of talent.
Gano to Damien would be a real step in the right direction.
But Coach Gano, make sure you get eveything in a contract because "THE BOOSTER WITH THE DOLLARS" love to be stroked.
The dollar does dicated way to much over there. You need complete control over all football decisions and the support IN WRITING.
JUST ASK SOME IN THE KNOW!
I was close to the Los Altos program throughout the end of the Despain era and the beginning of the Gano era. I always found Coach Gano to be a very good person…cared about his players and understood the programs role within the community…BUT anyone who was around Hacienda Heights in those days knew that whoever got that job after Coach Despain retired was going to go on a serious run. Coach Despain must’ve really been burned out because he was well aware of the talent in the lower levels…and even more important was an eigth grade class that included Felipe Aguilar, Shaun Cody, Sergio Santos, Ramon Martinez among others.
Nobody knew what was coming more than Rick Fries…Fries was Despain’s right hand man for over 20 years…and at the time of Despain’s retirement was the offensive and defensive coordinator…in addition to this he was a very popular teacher and basketball coach at the middle school who was producing all this talent that Gano would eventually win championships with. Many were shocked that Fries was passed over for Gano at the time…keep in mind that while Gano had quite a bit of experience…he was not exactly lighting the world on fire over at Northview. Also, keep in mind that while he brought over a few coaches (most importantly Lee Fair) the core of the Despain staff was left intact. So while Gano did a great job and has made a name for himself…he didn’t do much that would not have been done by any other competent high school head coach…this program was primed for greatness and he was very fortunate to be named the leader at that point in time…to his credit he took the ball and ran with it.
However, Damien should be warned that Gano needs the horses…he’s not the kind of coach that is going to scheme you to death and win a couple games on his own…a lot of people around the Heights know how responsible Demarco Curtis was for the “talent” coming into Los Altos during the Gano era…can Gano do it on his own? Will the holdovers who are now on Aguilar’s staff leave him to follow Gano to Damien? It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Reality Chick!
Spell check this...Mind your own business! After all, you have a "REAL" edumacation! LOL
Gano to Damien = Wow!
Greg Gano would be an interesting catch for Damien. I'll tell you this, this guy can sell rocks and make you think they were worth something. What I'm saying is, he will get kids and parents to follow. He has a charisma, competitive, and 4 cif title game under his belt. I've always looked at Gano as a John Robinson type...likeable guy who is great with the media and his players go through walls for him. Go get him Damien now!!!!
Fred has no love for the Tartans | November 24, 2008 2:19 PM
It's funny that your call CO, SH, DR, WC etc a cupcake division, but you lost to two cupcakes back to back each year. And then don't re-schedule who? Who's the real cupcake??
Quit crying, you guys are done real soon!
If Fred's "always disliked Glendora" - that would include last year. I see the real beef - you're miffed that he picked against you a few times.
It's week to week, and I can't think of a bigger and better game locally than San Dimas-Rosemead. It's funny, because Charter Oak people have been complaining that we don't them enough.
Fred,
Last year is last year. The Tartans deserved every bit of publicity they got (Sierra Champs after how many years. I will bet dollars to donuts, since you have taken over the sports editor desk, CO has received at least twice the space or more in your newspaper then Glendora. Prove me wrong.
Hey in the last two seasons, between you and Steve, which one of you have been more right in your Glendora game picks?
Just interested.
When will the front page article on the Tartans be published? Really liked the Azusa article.
In my best Allen Iverson impression, "Headlines, are we talking about headlines? We're trying to cover games and you're talking about headlines? Headlines?"
Here we go again, no love for Glendora? I think we sent a reporter all the way to Hemet to cover their game. I think their coach is the reigning Tribune coach of the year and you're bickering about a headline? We covered Glendora more than any other team last year and have done quite well following them this year. Please, make a better argument than that.
Just Wondering,
You are correct, big private schools pay coaches well. However, we are talking about Damien here. Money's not the same.
Fred,
It's no secret you have always disliked Glendora, but in the name of fairness, please try and be balanced in your reporting, "Saturday Morning Quarterback: Azusa gets its respect, San Antonio goes 3-0, Northview, San Dimas, Rosemead, COak and DRanch win; Amat goes down swinging" No room for the Glendora win in your headline?
you should be more interested in tracking the Tartan progress through CIF than other teams like CO. The Tartans have a very good chance to win the Central CIF divison, the first title in many, many years. While CO has won their cupcake divison many, many times.
I meant to say he made his name at CRESPI not St Francis, when he did bring that program back a bit. But his temas in the early '90s at Crespi is when he became legendary
Jeremy...please dont compare us to CO...i know ur an Alum but FYI CO has more transfers every here from the Monrovia/Pasadena Area...look at this years team....Gano did a great job and if he does go, i wish him the best of luck....recruiting is the name of the game
fan club prez,
You're general points about salary and benefits are right on, however if you knew Coach Redell well - I'm sure you'd know that he was the Coach at CRESPI and not St Francis... but that might be nit picking!
I know Bill Redell personally, he's a very successful professional and his job of Head football coach at St. Francis and now Oaks Christian is an avocation, more than a means to survive,he does not make what a coach/AD with a Masters would in a public school, say Gano? the Cal-Pers and medical benefits are far superior in the public school system, guys like McKnight and Rllinson are the exceptions to the rule not the norm in any way, shape or form! and now you know!
j
BYE!!.... DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE OUT!!
Maybe now we can get our program and player DEVELOPMENT BACK!!!! Instead recruiting seniors!!!
I'd rather have my program back then those 5 rings ANY day.
Doesn't make sense? Sure it does-Mater Dei hasn't won a ring in almost 10 years and they still have their competitive program with player development in-tact. Too extreme of an example? Okay, Charter Oak hasn't won 5 rings in the last 10 years. Are they(CO)down the toilet bowl? No, they're not.
Los Altos Administration- pay CLOSE attention, instead investing in a farewell party for Gano, what you need to do A.S.A.P. is look for a quality replacement with a proven track record for winning and program philosphy. And let's make this a packaged deal ala` Teacher/A.D./HEAD FOOTBALL COACH!
GOOD DAY!
The coaching staff at any number of large scale private schools (ie Oaks Christian, Servite, OLuth, etc...) all pay their coaches very well... far more than they could make on stipends at public schools. The private folks pay far better... common knowledge...
Jhykron
Agreed, but privates CAN pay whatever they want, whereas public schools, I believe have a cap on salaries.
Besides, Gano being the AD, makes some nice change, and his daughter is at LA. If he moved on, would she as well?
Just Wondering:
"Private schools pay much, much better than the public folks!"
Actually, they usually don't... at least if you're talking about teaching and administrative positions.
"What was Gano's record against Morrison and against Farrar?"
3-1 and 7-7 (2-1 in the CIF finals), I think.
Think about it Damien...110 wins
30 loses
1 tie
5 years straight in CIF Championship Final...
Won 4 out of 5....
If that doesn't look like a Pete Carroll Stats...
no way Gano or any other proven head coach goes to Damien, unless, until, the Administration decides to change their philosophy about the major sports, plain and simple, until you see the smoke rising from the Vatican there will be no change in direction!
What was Gano's record against Morrison and against Farrar?
This is a sensitive topic for me right now but all I will say is wait. There is a better fit for Damien that's very interested in the job.
The next Damien Head Coach should be everything Morrison was not. Excellent recruiter, excellent people person, excellent in class credentials, excellent roots in the community that matter today, a tireless worker, an excellent big picture guy, a coach with excellent next level contacts, a coach who understands today's kids and sets them straight, a coach who believes with all his heart and soul that the goal every year IS a Championship, a coach that cares about his player's lives off the field as well as on.
The next Damien Head Coach should be able to harness outside businesses to support the great history of Damien High Schhol. The next Head Coach should feel comfortable out in public and be the ultimate Ambassador for Damien.
We need a Pete Carroll type of guy. The kids have fun, the parents love the guy, and everyone knows that everyday you're going to compete! No job is annoited...everyone competes for playng time. Practices are wars. Games are execution and an all out assault based on preparation and commitment.
The divison is set for a dominate team to emerge. All the Sierra League teams are still in the hunt. How long has it been since every one made it out of the first round and every Sierra League team has a REAL shot at going all the way.
We need a Championship Minded Head Coach and by Championships I mean CIF not League Championship!
Damien is the best place to send your kids no matter what their interest. Damien has something for everyone, Academics, Country Club Sports, New Gym, New Field, great fan support, money, resources, safety and some of the nicest teachers and counselors around.
Make the right choice. Damien kids deserve the best! Take your time and start the selection process for the SELECTION TEAM first! The last two times this group met they let go of Pasquerella and Hhire Morrison without a staff in place.
That ain't going to get it done this time!
It's simple... Private schools pay much, much better than the public folks! Can you blame a guy for trying to do better given the financial conditions surrounding us all? What do I say... Good for Gano! Los Altos won numerous championships before Gano and they will win many more after him. My advice to the LA faithful... let the guy go! You can and will win without him! Maybe Damien can get their program back on track??? After all - Los Altos football is not about Gano - it's about the players, the parents, the fans, and the tradition! Rock on Conqs!
Well its kind of like Gano saw the perfect storm. And said hey I didnt make such a great catch in recruiting. And said F*** the SS L.A. he realized what we all need to. sadly LA is falling into the grave yard of once great teams. Who knows maybe he can resurrect Damien?
Gano is a joke. He is the reason that LA was 1-9. Damien unless you want the same result look elsewhere.
can anyone tell me who is the best recievers in the valley right now?
Wow! That Gano sure is a Class Act. (<-please insert sarcasm here)
