CIF Football Polls

| | Comments (55) |

The final CIF-SS Polls were released on Monday. These are the final polls before Sunday's CIF-Southern Section pairings draw.

Mid-Valley Division: 1. Monrovia (7-2), 2. Azusa (8-1), 3. Northview (7-2), 4. San Dimas (8-1), 5. Rosemead (7-2), 6. San Marino (8-1), 7. Paraclete (6-3), 8. LA Baptist (6-4), 9. Cerritos Valley Christian (7-2), 10. Temple City (5-4).
Robledo's Mid-Valley thoughts: These pollsters never got it right. Seriously, if Monrovia or Azusa win the championship, I'm personally donating $100 bucks to their athletic programs. The top three teams are Rosemead, Northview and San Dimas, and if they're on opposite sides, Rosemead and San Dimas will play in the championship.

Southeast Division: 1. South Hills (8-1), 2. Charter Oak (8-0-1), 3. Santa Fe (8-1), 4. Muir (8-1), 5. La Serna (9-0), 6. California (7-2), 7. West Covina (7-2), 8. Bonita (7-2), 9. Rowland (7-2), 10. Crescenta Valley (7-2).
Robledo's Southeast thoughts: Hard to argue with this. At least someone's doing their homework. The only change I would make is putting undefeated Charter Oak on top.

Central Division: 1. Rancho Cucamonga (8-0-1), 2. Los Osos (7-2), 3. Upland (8-1), 4. Ayala (8-1), 5. West Valley (8-1), 6. Cajon (8-1), 7. Chino Hills (8-1), 8. Chaffey (9-2), 9. Glendora (6-3), 10. Etiwanda (5-4).
Robledo's Central thoughts: Glendora has to be pleased being the highest third-loss team. I look at this division and dont see any word beaters. If the Tartans get hot, who knows?

Pac-5 Division: 1. Long Beach Poly (9-0), 2. Notre Dame (9-0), 3. Tesoro (9-0), 4. Orange Lutheran (7-2), 5. Los Alamitos (8-1), 6. Edison (7-2), 7. Mater Dei (7-2), 8. Mission Viejo (8-1), 9. Servite (6-3), 10. Bishop Amat (7-2).
Robledo's Pac-5 thoughts: What an accomplishment to go from 3-7 to being ranked tenth in the final Pac-5 poll and playing No. 2 Notre Dame for the Serra title on Friday. Even if the Lancers lose, hard to believe now they won't get the at-large.

Raul, your funny..... yeah they beat our team without certain players right? so answer this RAUL do you think it would have had a different score if ALL our players were in the game???? Our would it have been a different game if there Key players were injured???? We all not the answer to that one......

Raul said:

SD MOM you are funny! Should of, could of would of...hmmm. "We should of beat Northview, we could have beat Northview, we would have beat Northview...!" That is all you have said the past week! Just admit the better team won!!! HaHaHa! 8-1 and 2nd place!!! Nice!

a fan said:

What Raul is saying is that NV could of scored again but instead took a knee. It was not that we stopped them. And yes, i am a SD fan. It was a good game and i hope we do meet them in the playoffs.

Who ever is making the rankings has to pay attention more to what they are criticizing - it is obvious these people have not done any research at all with this. Shame shame.

SD MOM said:

Raul,
should of, could of, would of, well Northview didnt score again... they barely made it a point over... I hope there would be a possibilitie that SAN DIMAS would meet Northview in CIF...that would be most interesting.... GO SAINTS....8-1.....

Goldenarm said:

Not sure why the anti-Rosemead sentiment runs high here. The Panthers play straight ahead fball, and run to their offensive left with extreme power and precision. The QB makes good decisions on passes and though not a rocket arm, has above average accuracy. His line pass blocks very well...and is aided by the threat of Sumler who lingers in the screen area at times, dangerous for a quick dump off. Sumler can drop his pad level way under the radar and really punish an upright or unprepared defender.
Diaz is a stud at TE and more so on the defensive side - believe me, your OT will not be able to block him one on one.
The Meads only glaring weakness remains a turnover mojo, which has trailed them all year. They have been good enough defensively to thwart a ton of points being scored off these turnovers...but in the playoffs that could change big time.
Overlooking this team may be a symptom of dislike or past performance judgement tied erroneously to 2008's Panthers.
The Mead is solid.

JARHS,

Interesting...I've never seen the Massey rankings before. What really intrigues me about this one is how high they have Burroughs, who I happen to think will make some SERIOUS noise come playoff team. They have enough talent as a #3 seed to beat a #1 seed.....TRUST ME!!! And if they do just that, I guarantee a semifinal appearance for them.

New York said:

Trojan Man,
The real question for Rosemead in the playoffs is whether or not they maintain discipline and composure AND whether or not Koffler's playcalling gets too conservative...the old playoff curse.

joe said:

If south hills is #1 than this division is weak i was not inpressed with south hills win over rowland if south hills can barely beat rowland than i see them as a second round knockout and rowland a first round knockout if they even make it.

I love this new mid-valley division. So many local schools get to play each other "at last". All close enough for the fans. So many questions answered in the next 3 weeks. No more VVL against the world.

That's right boy! One point with three main guys out!

What about that over rated defense of NV? 39 without a full crew.

See you soon

Raul said:

Hey Saints fans! What is all of this "barely won by 1 point" sh*t? You do realize the Vikings could have scored again at the end of the game? Just admit that you are over rated and will not see the Vikings in the finals! You had your shot and missed! NV vs. RHS or Paraclete in the Final!

Everyone knows behind closed doors Bogan hates #5! This is no kept secret. The problem is Bogan has a player like that now and has had players like that in the past but refuses to say or do anything publicly because winning is most important. Ask any of us former players and they'll tell you some astonishing stories. I would make large sums of money if I wrote an unauthorized book.

Although CO's ranking should leapfrog them ahead of Muir next week after beating a good Bonita team while Muir's might drop after they beat a horrible phs team. Strength of schedule seems to be Calpreps' key indicator.

Huskyfan,

We appreciate your concern, however it is quite unnecessary. I can assure you that we will be fine and no single player will detract from us having the best year that we possibly can. We are a very close family at South Hills and sometimes with family, things get a bit heated. We are all very intense, players and coaches. But I can assure you that this team is headed in the right direction. They are playing together and becoming more and more selfless each week. These kids are becoming a tighter team and peaking at the right time, and they know it.

As for Geoffrey, he has come extremely far and continues to take strides. He will be fine, we will be fine.

I hope this places your mind at ease. If you would like to discuss any of this in further detail, I will be down on the field at 2pm.

Best Regards

Huskyfan said:

Hay Fred.
South Hills is on top now but it wont be if they dont come together as a team. That's right Mr attitude #5 Jeffery Vaughn walked of the practice field again? This kid is going to disrubt everything the team has been working for. It is not the compitetion that will beat SH's it will be from within from certain kids with the me attitude instead of trying to be a team player. Lets go Bogan time to get old school with the attitudes and let them see what sitting on the bench feels like. While the rest of the team is allowed to gel and win a championship with out them.

Go look at the numbers and Azusa, lets get real, your league ranks -139.9.

What a joke.

AZUSA has the talent to play and tell you why.

#80 Medina, is our fullback and linebacker who plays both ways. Has the most tackles for AZUSA.

#24 Ochoa, isn't afraid to hit anybody and can play defense.

Rauley ZARGOSA #1,The guy can catch a ball and is our leading receiver. Stands around 6'2, great size when catching against smaller DB'S.

#47 STEVEN ARCEO, 13 QUARTERBACKS! The most sacks of all the seven leagues.

#88 PETERSON, ONE HECK OF A DEFENSIVE BACK!

AND MANY MORE SEASON SENOIRS!

GOOD LUCK IN THE PLAY-OFFS!

My Top Team's for The Mid Valley Division

1. Rosemead
2. Azusa
3. San Dimas
4. Monrovia
5. Northview

Rosemead - Is just unstoppable right the only team i see beating them is them.

Azusa - They're Just a well balanced team good running and a very good passing attack i see them losing in the second round, The reason why i that look at La Puente last yr. there just in a weak league.

San Dimas - Who know's how good Barbone will be when he get's back maybe use him as a decoy, but joe has been stepping it up, i see them going deep in the playoffs.

Monrovia - They showed what they can do in the playoffs, but i don't see them in the 'ship

Northview - They have a big win going into the playoffs.

It would be good to see a Rosemead vs. San Dimas at the end.

How does Rowland move down two spots below West Covina with a 7 pt loss to the top ranked SH team? !!!FEAR THE MEAD!!!WAR PANTHERS!!!

FredJ said:

Joe, I asked Thom Simmons about that. His explanation was that the Serra submits its two teams, and the rest can apply as at-large. In the event of a three-way tie for second, you would be flipping for one spot. Why would you flip for third and fourth, they finished in a tie. You let CIF decide who goes based on their points system? I'll look further, but that was my understanding.

Observantcat said:

Fred:
Defense is the key to winning and going on to the finals in any of these divisions. San Dimas plays offense as good as any team in the east or west valley but their defense is very suspect. They are a team waiting to get shown the door. Monrovia could very easily be that team. With a Solid stingy D and a very potent offense It would'nt be a surprise to me or anyone who has played them. I still believe they have the fire power to Beat even the Almight Rosemead. Mistakes have hurt the Wildcats more than anything else. Even in the Rosemead game Monrovia had the momentum going into the half after being down by 14 and leading in the 3rd quarter by 7, but the mistakes did hurt them and thus game Rosemead an unearned win. But thats why you have playoff games, some for revenge some for comparison of talent on both sides of the ball but the ultimate reason is to see who is still standing at the end of the 4th quarter at the last game of the regular playoff season. You have been away from the West SGVN for awhile so I'm just keeping you abreast on whats going on. San Marino or TC could shock San Dimas if they get them in the first round. Remember Observant told you first!

Just Wondering said:

Fred,
Just want echo your take on Amat. I don't think anyone really thought they would do what they've done this season. Win or lose at Notre Dame (I picked them so they better win!) they have to get the at large bid. They way they battled against Crespi and the big win against OL leads me to believe they can play with anyone. I think that includes the cream of the Pac-5 crop. Let's rock Lancers... it's yours for the taking...

Second... I agree with your take on the Mid Valley. Monrovia and Azusa 1&2... What the... they both have had great seasons and it's been a big turn around... but a healthy San Dimas is really the only team that has a shot agains the Mead. Also, NV will not have a chance against a healthy SD. Having said that, I will be interested to see if Barbone is on the radar this Friday evening...

love4ftball said:

fred are serious?!?!? how can you say san dimas will make the cif championship?!?!? did you not see northview beat sd?!? honestly if you cant play d then you wont win... use your head.. i agree rosemead should be on top then it should be northview azusa san dimas and so forth... But dont make the kids feel stupid fred by sayin that they shouldn't be where cif has placed them... monrovia won when they needed to and so did azusa and northview so dont say you will donate 100 bucks and make them feel dumb.. i for one hope they both make the cif championship now just to show your ignorance... think of the kids before you say something

i am not a mid valley parent but i was shocked reading that from you fred...

GO HUSKIES!!!!

Joe Amat said:

Fred,

At the conclusion of the season, leagues submit their standings to CIF. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc based on finish and tiebreakers. Three way ties go to coinflips. By rule, the CIF pairings committee cannot choose a 4th place team over a 3rd place team from the same league.

Leagues will have the option of entering an at-large team for consideration should they desire.
Leagues will utilize the same guideline of designating a No. 1 entry, a No. 2 entry, or No. 3 entry. In
the event there is a tie for the at-large team, the league must specify which school will be submitted as the at-large entrant.

That 3-way tie for second is a slippery slope that no one wants to be in. A bad series of flips... and you could be home watching. even if your resume looks pretty good.

Best to take care of it on the field.
