Saturday Morning Quarterback: Azusa gets its respect, San Antonio goes 3-0, Northview, San Dimas, Rosemead, COak and DRanch win; Amat goes down swinging

Above: Azusa's Rauley Zaragosa had four INT's in the Aztecs' 27-6 win over Covina.
Thoughts from Press Row
I don't know how far Azusa's going to go, but it's refreshing to watch a group of neighborhood kids restore the pride. It's one thing to advance to the quarters at a traditional powerhouse, but another entirely when you do something a generation before you could not. To all those players who gave me a hard time on the sidelines for picking Covina, it's your moment, enjoy it.....
We finally get to see Rosemead and San Dimas. Although this should never have been a quarterfinal game, at least we're going to see it, and find out for ourselves. Then there's Northview-Paraclete. The winners of these two games will meet in the finals....
Ohh, to the Westside bloggers. You laughed when I picked all the San Antonio League tems to advance to the quarters. You asked what kind of cool-aid I was drinking. You laughed when I picked Diamond Ranch over Muir. But you're not laughing now. Diamond Ranch-South Hills could be epic, but I still like the San Antonio to sweep into the semi's. But it's all a moot point, Charter Oak is going to win it.....
Glendora, you did it again. The Sierra League went 3-0 in a tough division, and now the Tarts get a rematch with Upland, who they beat in overtime last year in the playoffs, but lost to earlier this season. Yes, a rubber match, what's better than that? .....
Ahhh, Bishop Amat. I couldn't believe my text messages, up 10-0 at half, 17-14 later in the fourth? To go toe-to-toe with undefeated Long Beach Poly is a statement that doesn't need explanation.

Friday's results
Mid-Valley Division
Monrovia 34, El Monte 7 -- Okay Cats, this was impressive, hope you get Duarte next.
Rosemead 45, Cerritos Valley Christian 14 -- Tra Sumler goes for nearly 250 yards in another romp. Dream matchup next.
San Dimas 67, Sierra Vista 12 -- The Saints are turning into monsters again. Too bad they'll meet Rosemead in quarters instead of the championship.
Northview 43, Workman 6 -- Not much drama in Vikings easy win over the Lobos. But tough Paraclete is next.
Paraclete 42, San Marino 14 -- Watch out for Paraclete. This is the team all the area coaches are raving about.
Temple City 7, Arroyo 6 -- Rams win defensive struggle without their head coach.
Azusa 27, Covina 6 -- Let's stop the soft schedule talk, the Aztecs are the real deal, advancing to quarters for first time since 1975.
Saturday
Duarte (5-5) at L.A. Baptist (6-4) -- Robledo (Duarte); Ramirez (Duarte)
Southeast Division
Charter Oak 55, Bell Gardens 15 -- This is what we've come to expect from the Chargers week in and week out.
Crescenta Valley 27, California 21 -- Kind of a shocker, but won't advance past next round against Charter Oak.
La Serna 42, San Gabriel 14 -- Matadors simply overmatched against the tough Whittier-area power.
Rowland 22, Burroughs 21 -- Michael Ball scores with 50 seconds left, then scores two-point conversion for thrilling victory.
Diamond Ranch 21, Muir 7 -- All I can say is sorry Westside folks, but I called it. 5-7 DRanch is in the quarterfinals against South Hills...oohh wee.
South Hills 40, Schurr 21 -- The Huskies trail early, but rally back to get Diamond Ranch next.
West Covina 28, Bonita 18 -- Bulldogs jump ahead 21-7 and hold on the rest of the way.
Burbank 20, Sante Fe 14 -- Who would have thought the two teams to advance from the Pacific would be Burbank and C.V., not Muir and Burroughs.
Central Division
Glendora 56, West Valley 21 The Tartans win another big first-round game, and now get Upland in quarters, a rematch of last year's first round thriller won by Glendora in overtime.
Rancho Cucamonga 21, Colton 17
Paloma Valley 42, Ontario 21
Ayala 38, Colony 7
Cajon 28, Etiwanda 27

Pac-5 Division
Long Beach Poly 21, Bishop Amat 17: Lancers led 10-0 at half and 21-17 late in the fourth, but Jackrabbits scored on fourth-and-goal with just over a minute left to win it. Say what you want, but the Lancers are back. Great season.
Esperanza 24, San Clemente 16
Mission Viejo 37, Loyola 7
Lakewood 35, Servite 34, OT
Tesoro 23, Los Alamitos 7
Mater Dei 35, L.B. Jordan 7

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
Two Words: BLOG HEAVEN. I have hit the motherload, praise him.:)
Lots of people here seemed to be disrespecting Rosemead, and now their going to the ship.
They won a gritty game that was dictated by defense and had to grind it out and run the ball. Similar to the way the Tennessee Titans are doing it right now.
What does anybody have to say about Rosemead now?
I'm actually being very sincere and am curious to what people have to say.
cohs, let me be the kinder more gentler please. Though we have a difference of opinion I will state that I respect your choice of back. Again, I believe Gilmore to be the superior running back and the best running back in the sgv followed closely by Gaisie from Amat, followed even more closely by Muema. Muema is one hell of a good back and being my 3rd choice behind those two is nothing to sneeze at. But, hell, who am I? Like everyone else, I'm a guy with an opinion that, in the grand scheme of things, can't even get you a pack of bubble gum!
sgvfan, Thanks, I thought that was what happened, but I was not sure.
i just wanna talk about glendora for 1 second and say what a great job they did beating west valley
i mean what a tough task considering the 2 games before west valley lost to (3-7) lakeside 14-10 and beat (2-8) hemet 21-14
and i think tim gilmore would be spectacular if he had charter oaks line, i mean come on its charter oak ;)! but i would still take muema, he is going to have some senior season next year i can only imagine. good luck to glendora and i hope you guys win, i really do! ( but upland is a little bit to strong for you guys.) PARTNA!!
Hey, Freddy:
Actually, Poly scored winning TD on first-and-goal (from about 4 inches). Play before that was fourth-and-1 (actually about 4th and 4 inches), and Poly got a yard for the first.
Great game by Amat. One of the best HS football games I've ever seen, to go with Pacifica-Santiago in 1978 and Loyola-Esperanza in 2003.
cohs,
What do you think Gilmore's numbers would have been behind CO's offensive line instead of Wilson's .Plus throw in the superior coaching he would receive as opposed to what he got at Wilson.Just a thought and I am not taking anything away from Muema because he has had an excellent season but it would be interesting.
No TM and I are not related... But how much I'd love to have TM as a relative.
He completes me.
Stop trying to steal what I say about TM. You guys need to get off CO's nuts and look at how their such a great team and bein such a great team being in such a low low division... and the low low teams you played against.
And for the Etiwanda game, their kicker missed 3 PAT's because faulty snaps and there PAT team wasnt that good... So a 32-35 win isnt saying much, so good one on that...
That's right Joe, the 2008 team will always be remembered as the team that started the turn around. We are finally on the right path. Just think where we would be had this staff been here in 2006.
cohs, please! You must be out of your mind if you think most people would take Muema over Gilmore. At best, it would be a toss up and for my money, Gilmore's way more explosive. The only thing Muema has that Gilmore doesn't is a little bit of height. That's it. Gilmore's faster and stronger. Both play against really bad competition but Gilmore's better. Trust me.
Busy weekend after the game on Friday. Congratulations to all the teams that listened to the speech from "We Are Marshall":
"...When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose. We may be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the game but if you play like that we cannot be defeated...."
Concern yourself with your own personal excellence and not the result. One comes as a function of the other. Evaluate your improvement. Did you do everything in your power to execute the fundamentals and the game plan? Are you better today than you were last week... or the beginning of the season? Comparing yourself against yourself is far more important than the comparison with others.
Those are things you can CONTROL. You can't control the opponent. You can't control if they're bigger, stronger, faster... better. If you do (did) your best at the things you can control, as Coach Lengyel, from Marshall says, you "may be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the game but if you play like that we cannot be defeated...."
This is clearly the case with the Lancers, among others I'm sure. Certainly disappointment abounds - but that should not detract from the PRIDE that you should take in your performance. A year ago who would have thought you'd be in this position. To be able to strap it on and go toe-to-toe with the best the country has to offer... and have them on the ropes - would have been beyond most peoples wildest dreams. But the players and coaches made it a reality.
The feeling in the stadium was a resurgence of that pride in knowing that the staff had prepared the team to give their best. It felt like the days when Amat BELIEVED they would go in and put up a battle with anyone. That feeling is back... that confidence has returned, and all involved can take pride in being a part of that comeback.
Congratulations.
D-RAnch,
Tim Gilmore is a great running back and a good athlete. But i'am pretty sure if you would ask any coach who would they want on their team this year Tim Gilmore or Adam Muema they would pick Adam. Tim Gilmore didn't help his team out much this year. Adam had 80 carries for 700 yards last year as snowdens back up. And has 1600 yards this year on 180 carries. i don't about you but thats pretty good considering they have a balance offense with chris allen throwing 1600 yards this year as well. On any other team he can run for 2,500 yards easy. We are not cocky and arrogant we just tell it how it is. i dont know why your upset at charter oak. but then again if i was diamond ranch i would had charter oak too.
Diamond Ranch over So. Hills. Diamond Ranch is playing their best ball now that it counts.
Charter Oak takes care of Rosemead without a problem. Rosemead at home or not just does not measure up to this years San Dimas team.
COHS,
This is what I mean, you guys are so cocky and arrogant. Adam Muema is not the best RB in SGV. Hands down, that goes to Tim Gilmore. He had to play the role of Barry Sanders for the last 3 years. Same stuff with you guys. You all said that Snowden was the best last year and that was not true. It was Bryce Mahmood-McBride from Los Altos. You guys are to much for yourselves. You are not humble enough to be Champions....Its not just on the Blog, where I hear you guys talking like this.
ok let there be peace to the SGV last week i gave the game winners and i was very close i was right on almost all the winner but one so let me tell you once more who will go on...

COHS
Thank you for reminding us of the score the last time we met. Those numbers echo in our memories and virbrate through our souls.
If SHHS is fortunate enough to meet you in the finals I'm sure it will be a battle of epic perportions. We respect the talent that Ferrar has put together. But do not count Bogan and his team short. It will be fun Partner. I can tell you this. One aspect of you game has already been taken away from you. Can you figure it out? I'm sure C/O's coaches have. One game at a time Partner
Hey Mead Heads!
Someone forgot yo tell you that the Saints are having one of the best LB's in the Valley back in uniform this week, just in time to unleash 10 weeks of ass kickin on you. KYLE WITHEM is BACK! We will be there for you Kyle!
In a bttle between two very strong teams, the Saints emotion and heart will prevail
Saints 35
Mead 17
Was at the West Covina, Bonita game and I must say that Ricky Johnson is one of the best backs I've seen this season and that the Bulldogs play some great defense. You gotta give credit to Bonita though. As I have already heard one blogger say, these are the "Gutty Little Bearcats." They had tiny linebackers that really stepped up to Johnson and big #33 especially in the second half. The Bulldogs sophomore QB was the difference maker, especially on that last drive. That does not take anything away from coach Podley and his tough Bearcats. There was a kid from Bonita that must have weighed no more than 110 pounds (#13) and he prevented a touchdown on a kick return. Good luck Bulldogs. I think you will see CO in the finals if you keep playing like this.
HEY T M
Dont worry I am also an Rosemead Panther Alumni. 83 . But now an Avid West Covina Fan . For obvious reasons. PANTHERS STUDY YOUR HISTORY. When we made are Run in 83, WE beat The #1 team in the DIV BaldwinPark and The defending Champs Indio, No one said it was going to be easy, Rosemead has always been Known for it hard hiting and playing with heart, As I tell my Son when he steps on the field for the Bulldogs every fri. night. Play SMART, Stay FOCUSED. And play HARD. GOOD LUCK ROSEMEAD. GO BULLDOGS
A Fan,
Yes i'am very careful in what we wish for. And charter oak also remembers the last time we faced you, final score 35-0. South Hills Has a very great team, good defense good offense, good coach, good quarterback. But Charter Oak Has Adam Muema the best running back in the sgv. He's going to make all the difference to get them that title they've been oh so close too these past couple years. good luck with d-ranch Parnta. Will take cresenta valley their coming over to are house and we all know how thats going to go.
COHS
Becareful what you wish for. Dreams do come true. SHHS remembers the last time we faced you. This outcome will be different. Your big, Your fast, Your strong, You have talent and are well coached. So are we!
As for San Dimas vs. Rosemead.. SD watch the film from Rosemead vs. SHHS. SHHS held Sumler to about 100 yds and only one score. Not his average day. Contain the outside, force him into the middle. Game over. Good Luck SD.
COHS One game at a time baby. One game at a time.
Go Huskies!!
Trojan Man;
Dont hold your breath. First Rosemead has to get by SD which I think that they can. But if you think it is going to be a cake walk after that then you really are Trojan Man. As good as the Trojans are they live and die by their attitudes about other teams... May the best two teams meet in the Championship game..... NO FEAR THE MEAD
All this what if this what if that ,
RHS BEAT Monrovia. And will AGAIN if given the chance.
San Dimas is a GOOD team, the penalties RHS commited well NO EXCUSES , they were legit calls. I am chomping @ the bit for Friday Night.
Get there early for a good seat this should be a game for the ages.See ya there.
FIGHT ON
TM
Duarte Fan:
Never no disrespect to the Falcons, but I see an even bigger improvment on the Monrovia side of the fence. No one can deny Canada's talent nor shall he be overlooked in this game, but in the bigger picture I see the maturity factors playing an even bigger role in this game. Monrovia had to grow up fast in the early part of the season but the seniors are not just good players they are good team players as well who I see are motivated by the lack of respect that has plaged them since the mass exodus of some of the players. But what ever the outcome it will open some eyes to some of the talented players the SGV will be keeping an eye on in the next few years.
Ps...Raul stick with soccer because without Summler Rosemead is just another El Monte.....now that just took up 2 sec. of your time.. think again before you post!
HaHa D-ranch D-ranch. where do we start. let's see the last time you beat charter oak wasn't earlier this season(got beat easily 23-7) , wasn't last year(got way way easily beat 48-7) , wasn't the year before that (got beat by a point 21-20). so can you name the last time you beat co? you say are schedule is weak maybe it is, we still beat everyone and beat everyone easily, very easily. you played a hard tough schedule and got wooped basically every game. you do have a win over colony who's season is already over, and you also have wins over wilson and los altos. and lets not forget about your great win over nogales! ya you got a win over muir, but muir was way over rated this year. your most likely not going to get past south hills so lets not talk about d-ranch in the finals PARTNA! as me and the co boys were having a burrito at albertos last night we just couldnt stop thinking about a Charter Oak Vs. South Hills championship boy can you imagine that?
OBSERVANTCAT!
I agree with some of your thoughts. However, SD Senior LB will be back and released from his cage. He's a warrior and will make an immediate impact.
Plus I dont think RM has dealt with a backfield or OL like SD.
Should be fun!
OBSERVANTCAT!
Don't get to far ahead of yourself!
Duarte was like a sleeping bear, I believe, and just now are waking up and starting to play to there potential!
Just like DR, first loss to Muir in the begining of the season, and came back to end Muir's season. Just to REMIND YOU, We won't be playing like we did in the first game!
FALCONS WILL WIN!!!
As talented as Rosemead is, a lack of discipline (60 yards of penalties in the first quarter alone?) will hurt them against a more evenly matched opponent.
Observantcat, Sorry you had to waste 5-10 minutes of your life with that last post, but the winner of SD-Rosemead is in the finals. This is their semi-final game. Monrovia/Duarte has NO CHANCE! Sorry.
Observant Cat Rosemead offense is much more than Tra. They can pass just about as good as anyone in the valley. If the game is close than Bobby Maldenado can put it in with his leg. Monrovia is a good team but not a number one, maybe a number five in the Mid Valley.
MEAD VS. SAN DIMAS:
Stay tuned to a game fit for the ages, which for some fans may seem like the most challenged playoff game in the CIF southern section. But here's my take. Rosemead is a team that plays behind the big playmaking running style of Tra' Summler, If this machine is turned on early in this game it could be lights out for San Dimas, who for a lack of a better word has a very VULNERABLE defense. SD is just giving up entirely way too many points mainly to teams with no Defense to support their offensive efforts. Rosemead is not that team, their Defense comes alive when their offense produce whereas San Dimas seems to play keep away and score with other opponents. On the other end teams like Rosemead could have complete let downs if all isn't clicking and San Dimas comes out punching. Playing catch up on a high scoring team is tiring and very difficult so if that scenario plays out it will be an even longer night for Rosemead. This should be the game of the year so far pitting potential No. 1 teams in both sides of the Valleys together, both with high scoring offenses and tremendous offensive stats. Now being that I am a Monrovia Fan through and Through, I still believe the test for either team will come in the CIF Semi's against Monrovia who in my opinion deserves much Kudos for even taking their game to this level, as mentioned on some of the earlier blogs the Mass exodus of some extremely great and talented kids. The Coach and six greatly touted starter left at the beginning of the summer to play for other teams, with that being said I would have placed Monrovia at the Top of both the Star News and the Tribune because with those players Monrovia would have made BIGGER Noise Than Rosemead, San Dimas, and BIshop Amat as well as Charter Oaks. So hats off to Coach Maddox and his team for regaining their composure and taking advantage of the very talented players that did remain and for those who dont know this team is for real, who ever makes it to the Semi's and has to play Monrovia will find out the reason that even the coach's have chosen them to be #1 in the Mid-Valley Div. So for the rest of the season Good Luck to All of the Remaining teams, If you're still in it You've earned it.......... Hope to see you on the Big Stage.
Congrats to Team Amat and the best that the East San Gabriel Valley has to offer!!!
You all have brought pride back to us.
Thank you all so much for all of your hard work and dedication. May God bless you all...Lancers.
Again...you have no idea how proud we are of each and every one of you....
You are now and will always be...Mighty
Mighty because you wear the Royal Blue and Gold.
oldschoolpanther
I've seen Rm, SD, NV, and Paraclete.. One of these teams will win it. All have great tools to get the job done.
It amazes me that CIF set it up in the Quarters. I think they should be Semi games which would eliminate the weaker teams that may advance, due to better draws. Sorry folks, but mark my words, one of these four are just better.
Good Luck to all..
DIAMOND RANCH FAN,
Well Well, we told you we told everyone... stangs you guys have lots of class on the blogs and game a very good game...so we wont try to add on to what everyone knows... but to all of the people out there that said that we are nothen and that we cant here we come... here we come sright to the CIF championship!!! AND TO YOU SOUTH HILLS ALL WE HARE ON THE BLOGS IS ALL THE SMAK THAT YOU TALK BUT NOW ITS TIME TO MAN UP AND GROW A SET OF BALLZ AND PLAY!!! BECOUSE WHEN WE ARE DONE WITH YOU GUYS...OOOOOO DONT LET ME SAY IT!!!!
BUT WE KNOW Y YOUR NAME IS SOUTH HILLS...CUZ THE ONLY PLACE YOU GO IS SOUTH... DONW OFF THE CHARTS
I have seen San Dimas and they are a good team, but Rosemead is playing some good football as well. Good luck on Friday and we will see what happens! Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!
re: response to SH GAME
From what i could see, after a personal foul penalty on SH, he mouthed off to the ref, which brought on another personal foul, then the coach threw part of his head set and ran past the numbers, and another 15 yard penalty was thrown. 45 yards in penalties in a matter of 1 minute. There was a long heateed conference between coach and the ref, i am guessing to try to get alex reinstated intot he came, that is a big loss to go with out him next week, coming off the edge, and him in the back field.
High School Football Fan,
If you get past South Hills you still have to get through the semi's, Burbank or West Covina
just might not cooperate with your plan.
PLEASE LETS NOT TALK ABOUT AMAT ANYMORE YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE...YOU LOST!!...YOUR DIV1 YOUR SUPPOSE TO WIN THOSE GAMES...YOUR PLAYING YOUR OWN LEVEL COMPETION..BUT YOU LOST..ITS A GREAT HONOR TO PRACTICE ON THANKSGIVING DAY..BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR...AS FOR CHARTER CHOKE YOUR BEGINNING TO SOUND LIKE MUIR..STOP TALKING SH-T. IF WE GET PASSED S HILLS YOU WILL FELL OUR RATH!!WE ARE DR!!
I read in the Prep Sports, there is a video of the Covina vs. Azusa game, why can't i find it? Can someone post on how to view it or find it, for that matter! help!
I AM NOT MIKE THE CLONE.....
Saint Tartan,
Stop now! I am also a Glendora honk and your karma is going to make for a bad holiday weekend.
Let's admit we have nothing to say when our head coach chose not to play Charter Oak this year and renew the schedule.
For the record, that is not a decision many of us Glendorians are happy about either.
Regardless, good luck this week to even yes you too Charter Oak and I am sorry to say this because I know I'll get backlash for saying this but Charter Oak is a damn good football team and your schedule this year is fine.
Tartans have your best week of practice and go exercise our demons.

SAINT TARTAN SHUT UP PLEASE!
GOODBYE!
Raider Nation,
I agree with rqd2, CO seems to be the team to beat in this division, but
the great thing is you still got to play the game on the field and at this point of the season there are still several teams in the division that can get hot and make a title run, I believe Rowland could have that capability, & that was a pretty good team [Burroughs] that you took out last night.
As for South Hills, yes they are beatable, despite what some of their fans or players have said, West Co did not get lucky when we
played them, from my perspective we should have won by more than we did, however if both teams are fortunate enough to make it to the semis it will be an epic battle that will be too close to call, will the revenge factor propell the Huskies or will the fact that the Bulldogs
beat them, give us the confidence we need to do it again. Who knows? But in the mean time there are two teams waiting in the wings that can take either one or both of our teams out of the playoffs, & that would be Diamond Ranch & Burbank. Who besides Burbank thought that those other Bulldogs [Burbank} would take out a 9 & 1 Santa Fe team that beat two div.3 playoff teams, & played tough against a Div.1 San Clemente team. I for one thought we would be traveling to Santa Fe srpings but Burbank had other plans so now we go to Burbank in round 2, I
think the battle of the Bulldogs will be a war & I don't know what to expect from them, all I know is I can't wait till Friday.
I also wante to congratulate Amat on their great game against Long beah Poly, anyone who knows highschool football
knows that coming within 4 points of the Jackrabbits {#5 team in the nation}, means you are playing some
elite football, & the fact that they beat OL. & Crespie shows that it wasn't a farce.
Glendora,
Great win last night, I hope you guy's get some revenge for your early season loss to Upland, go get yourselves a ring & we'll see you next year,
ohh & by the way St. Tartan, you are correct, we did not whoop you, it was a great game, but also remember that we didn't get lucky either, our O line played well that night
and our "D" came through
at crucial times that night. Next year will be a war cause like you said, both of us will be better.
Azusa, congratulations on your first playoff win since 75, I hope you guy's go deep this year, but S.Dimas, Rosemead,North-
View,Monrovia & Paraclete will all be tough in that division.
I love Friday night lights!!!
I am a 1990 Graduate of RHS , who exposed me ? Was I trying NOT to be exposed , or is someone else using my name , I am TM & have been for the last few years here on the blog .
Sorry no relation to St.Tartan.

Saint Tartan
This clown is probably related to Trojan Man.
You complete me...
Now last year TM was exposed, so who do you think ST is?
Any guesses?
Lets talk Facts!!!
Are you kidding me.....don't let me tell it...I was at the CO--DR game and last time i check DR held them 16-7 all the way until the last 3 mins. of the 4th quarter. BTW, with the exception of Rancho Cucamonga, We held them to their lowest scoring game all season. You all can play that role if you want too like you all are not worried, your only fooling yourselves. Until we had to go away from our spread, we drove on you guys 2 twice for long drives. O and community, please know the only reason we went away from it was because our 6-3 290 Center, went down. After we had to replace him, we fumbled the shotgun snap 3 times before having to go under Center. Keep on making it seem like DR is nobody...Last time I checked CO if we had a schedule like yours, Im absolutely sure we would be umm....9-1, hands down. You guys are like Muir to us....We plan to ball SH up, and see you guys in the finals....KNOW THAT!!! Cocky ass loosers....Play someone and then talk
Notes on Amat, thoughts on the game.
I was very surprised to see someone wearing a St Paul shirt on our side during the game last night. It goes to show you that even rivals can sometimes cheer for each other.
You know, the funny part is that I really felt sorry for the guy who runs up and down the stands with the Amat flag. I think his name is Stemple (?), because it just seemed as if he had no running room to show the flag last night. It was as if he kept running, and always seemed to run into the wrong side of the crowd.
You see, Veterans stadium has both fans seated, on the same side of the field, and because of that, I saw allot of yellow and green mixed into the concession stands along with the blue and gold.
It wasn’t too bad of course, but there was this one idiot sitting about 5 rows in front of me. He was quiet throughout the entire game until Poly scored. Then he started to trash talk, and it didn’t let up until we took the lead back in the fourth quarter. Later, when they went ahead for good, he said something even more stupid as he ran off. No class at all.
If that wasn’t bad enough, I thought that the end of the game was even worse, in that, the Poly players did not give our team the respect that is usually afforded to the loser of a game when they play their alma mater.
Their team huddled around midfield and completely ignored us and highly disrespected our team during the playing of our song. Very poor sportsmanship I thought, considering the fact that at the beginning of the game, both players came out to shake each others hands.
Maybe they were not expecting to get slapped around so hard last night ?
As for the game itself, well let me say that in my opinion, Amat handled them very well. The third quarter belonged to them no doubt, but we dominated them for 3 out of the 4 quarters of the game.
Amat really only lost the game when we couldn’t stop them in their final drive, and remember, if they didn’t make that fourth down play with 1 min and 25 seconds to go, then we win the game. It was that close (Ya, I know, shudda, wudda, cudda…).
You know, I think that maybe we should schedule them for next year if possible because to tell you the truth, they played no better than some of the teams that we played this year, and beat.
BTW, our defense played a great game last night, and we almost had an interception that could have been run back all the way if the defender hadn’t dropped the darn pass.
As for the key plays of the game, well, did anyone catch that fabulous defensive play by Sheldon Price? Wow!! What a defensive effort to save a touchdown in the second quarter.
BTW, what happed in that 3rd quarter? Was that a fumble or was it a take away? In any event, it was a huge back breaker, because with that take away, it led to the second of two quick touchdowns that took away all of our momentum. That was devastating.
While that was a tough break, we nevertheless came back to take the lead, only to lose it on a great offensive series by Poly. We actually lost that game in the final 1 minute and a half, because if they didn’t make that fourth and one, it’s our game and we get ready for next week.
A couple of more small things
Charter Oaks's fans, what can I say, that was a wonderful gesture, when you're fans cheered our halftime score last night. WOW !! Absolutely fabulous.
BTW, I have noticed that the "drive bys" are now focused on Charter Oak and South Hills. What is that all about? I thought for sure that because we are now out of it, that they would go back into their little holes (remember the coral fish story?) and pack it in at lest until baseball season starts early next year. Guess not.
however, even without Amat in the picture, I do find it amusing and quite ironic that CO people are telling others to compare ratings or to "nut up" and play them with posts like this
Who's the p-ssy that wouldn't play us this year?
Nut up and play the big blue. Sign up next year and we'll kick your a--.

A real Bishop Amat booster and alumni
wow way to show the class of bishop amat high school. i'am sure thats how you handle things over their with violence and laying your hands on someone. i've been to many bishop amat events very classy people i'am pretty sure they wouldn't want you to be saying your going to physically harm someone
Saint Tartan,
Okay yeah were over rated. and we actually happen to play two of the teams that are in your league and we easily beat them both, hey we also played etiwanda the team you barely beat and we also beat them. are only blemish this year was too rancho cucomonga when we tied 14-14. rancho so happens to be the #1 team in your division, who has beaten UPLAND and los osos and the rest of the baseline league. so lets see the rest of the schedule you have a win over west ranch who failed to make the playoffs this year and you have a win over el dorardo who clearly isn't the same team anymore you can ask anyone in orange county that. chino didn't make the playoffs either that's another one of your win's. and you still seem to dodge the fact you lost to west covina this year the same team thats in our division. you also lost to chino hills who i think charter oak would beat. you do have a victory over ayala which is pretty impressive but ayala did lose to south hills. so that leaves us with west valley, pretty good win, but charter oak will also take them. so that pretty much gives us a look at your schecule. Face it you guys aren't all that good. so get out of here with your over rated crap and shut your trap partna... haha!......Charter Oak FOOTBALL
i have not mentioned Amat in one post
Aram.
Thought that was you at the Arroyo-Temple City game. Yes, Arroyo is extremely young. Last night's starting line ups were as follows:
OFFENSE: QB-Freshman;RB-Soph;OL-3 Seniors, 1 Junior, 1 Soph;REC-2 Juniors, 1 Soph;TE-Senior.
DEFENSE:DL-1 Senior, 2 Juniors, 1 Soph;LB-2 Seniors, 1 Junior, 1 Soph;DB-1 Junior, 2 Sophs. Plus, punter, kicker and both kick-off return players are juniors and sophomores.
Have you seen Rosemead? They are an absolute machine right now. I don't know if they will beat San Dimas or not, but they are as complete a football team as there has been in the MVL in quite some time. Very efficient offensively, and absolute monsters on defense-they really swarm to the ball on EVERY PLAY! This will be a VERY interesting match up!
reality czech,
Your pathetic! Us true blue Bishop Amat fans really want to know who you are so we can have a conversation with you about class and pride. We lost and still you so desperately want to be able to post comments on the blog so you engage in other people's discussions. Mind your own business and pretend like your grieving the loss like the rest of us die hard fans. You represent the worse in us every time you have something to say and instead just be proud of the honor this year's team brought back to the program instead of always casting stones and pointing fingers. I promise real Bishop Amat fans do not behave like reality czech. Get a life and if you go to our banquet introduce yourself as reality czech and I guarantee you I'll take great pleasure in physically asking you to leave.
Oh Shut up CO,
your over-rated! I'd love to see you in our division or even in our league. You guys talk so much trash. Yea Chris Allens a great QB, but look at your competetion you guys play. Its horrible. Go play some real teams and id give u the thumbs up. You wouldnt have a undefeated record and a tie, if u were in our shoes. And dont say, yea we would be undefeated, because you wouldnt.
Im not going to jinx this weeks game vs. Upland. I know what our team is about and what Upland is about. Glendora has improved greatly since week 1. Be a true fan.
Little Bedroom Worms, Tartan Redhead , Bedroom town Excuses-ironic to read when the shoes on the other foot!
you see, Tartan Redhead shows the class of the real glendora fans. saint tartan just doesn't know what he is talking about. Don't get me wrong glendora has a great football team and has a real shot against upland. but glendora wouldn't be able to compete with co this year or next.
Trojan Man
No s--- we lost. Yeah and we didnt learn anything from it! Wow, I guess SC didnt learn anything from Stanford or OState.
Dude get a grip, I personally have seen RM on two occasions and you're good, but so are the Saints!
WE FEAR NOBODY!
GO SAINTS
Saint Tartan
Check out your rating compare to ours..
Better yet check out a projected matched up by cal preps.
Guess what, you lose again and we have a better rating TODAY!
MAN UP LITTLE PASQY!
Getting humbled by our crappy league and you run like little worms!
Tartans have your best week of practice and go exercise our demons.
saint tartan ya i bet glendora would love to be in co's division. oh wait i think they played a team in their division in west covina and i'am pretty sure they lost. and i'am pretty sure the last time co played glendora they beat them. so good luck with upland
Bedroom town Excuses,
Fine then ask to play us again, and ask some other teams that are in your category of "Greatest team" to play too. Atleast admitt you played the crappiest teams around... You guys are pathetic. Play some real teams
Trojan Man,
Just like Mead should Respect us right??? how far did mead go last year in CIF??? Go Saints... all teams gone this far should be respected....SAINTS SAINTS SAINTS!!!!!!!
Saint Tartan
Who's the p-ssy that wouldn't play us this year? Don't give us the overated crap. Pasqy the biggest worm around.. Who won last year? Ha Ha
Nut up and play the big blue. Sign up next year and we'll kick your a--.
Making excuses about a field? What a joke. At least a real High School has a field. Keep crying you little Glendora boy
TM
You complete me too! LOL So me the money or should I say Jersey's...
Coach Drake is still alive. I was told he had passed on. You are correct..........he is smiling in Utah as we speak!
I disagree with you assessment that the sierra league is in a tough division. CIFSS just dropped the sierra/baseline leagues out of the tougher Inland Valley which had teams like Corona Centennial,Norco,Rev,AB Miller,Chaperral,Vista Murietta ect. Now the sierra leagues gets to play the very weak SAL and the other worse division from Riverside County. No one in this division comes within 4 td's of Corona Centennial or in the old day having to play Mission Viejo all stars,San Clemente,Dominguez ect.
Posted by: DB fan | November 22, 2008 6:58 AM
are you serious? Glendora has a good team, but CC is out of this world. They get some great players there. Yea we did go down a division or two. But still in the toughest division in this area and the toughest League (BA wait till i talk about you). No question about that. Come on CO, Bell Gardens?? WOWW!! The Tartans would of Loved to be in your Division! Nice preseason schedual too, and nice League. The most over-rated team in the Valley.
Bishop Amat, Were damn proud of you here in Glendora! I miss those good Rivalry games with you guys. Good luck next season, and you deserve to be the #1 team in the Valley!!! Just look at your League and division. Good Job!
West Covina, cant wait till next year. You got us on the fiel we hate soo much, because its the worst field around. Were spoiled and used to the nice Citrus Stadium. It was a game, and you guys didnt whoop us. next year we'll be better too. Good Job this year tho!!!
Trojan man,
you complete me!!!!
-Saint Tartan
AMAT is back...I was on the last team to make the playoffs and these kids that were out there last night played with more heart than I have ever seen. To play that level of football is inspiring after not being able to keep up with the big names for a while.
And the PAC-5 (Div. 1) Division was soo tight last night, upsets and close calls...and I loved the black Mission Viejo jerseys...
http://www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/la-sp-sondheimer22-2008nov22,0,2009937.column
i'm pretty sure the point is made. since amat is not in the playoffs anymore, is there any reason to attempt to validate amat's team, schedule, year? i don't think so. amat had a really good year and now it has come to an end against a very good poly team. would it be out of the question to route for or see other sgv schools who will continue to play? good luck next year to the lancers as it seems the ship has been righted. again, good luck to all those that continue to play.
Go Saints
Yes I remember that game against OC.
You lost .
You may not fear anbody , but you better have RESPECT for RHS ! We bring the WOOD & lay it down & HARD !
Ask CVC...
Congrats to the RHS Panthers on one HELL of game .

Dan,
Your another decent reputable person. Who do you think is the favorite for the Southeast Division and do you think anyone can beat South Hills in your bracket and is Charter Oak really that much better than us?
Stang Fan,
Way to man up & eat some crow, I respect that, and to tell you the truth, in this division, I think Muir is a top five or six team but just got a tough draw in D-Ranch, its too bad they had to meet again so early in the playoffs.
I think D-Ranch is one of those scary teams that, when they are on, are capable of beating any team in their division, I feel the same way about our West Covina team also.
The Pacific league is a great fit in the Southeast Division, & I for one, am glad to have them in here, I feel Muir & Arcadia & Burroughs should be competitive most years against the SAL & Miramonte
schools, I also think the Sierra would have been a good fit in this division, replacing maybe the Almont league, although Shurr is capable of putting out a good team sometimes.
Even though we lost we had a hell of a year. To all you sh#t talkers i would love to c ur team go head to head with Poly. For all u dummys look at polys score they have never been in such a close game like that this year. Were back next year.
WHEN THE SUN GOES UP AND THE MOON COMES DOWN. AMAT WILL SHINE.
-------->---------------
Saints did a great job last night.
Great to see Barbone and Kohler back and we get Kyle next week. We need everyone healthy to compete against a very good team. Remember playing Oaks last year, nobody was better than them. WE FEAR NOBODY!
rgd2626,
Thanks for your insight. I am a Rowland fan and was anticipating you would say what you said about Charter Oak and La Serna. Personally I think Charter Oak is very mortal and South Hills you can tell by the posts below I was never more unimpressed with Coach Bogan and his players than this year. Extremely unorganized and undisciplined and was shocked at what some our players said about their team after the game. Good luck to your Conquerors! Coach Aguilar is a winner and will get that program back to what everyone expects of Los Altos.
mrman, I guess you could say coach drake is looking down, but not from heaven, from Utah. Coach Drake is alive and well and smiling.

!!!!FEAR THE MEAD!!!!WAR PANTHERS!!!!
Raider Nation,
as far as los altos, yes it was a tuff year, but that happens, every team and i mean team goes thru these periods at some point, and yes, they will be better next year and will compete as well, not one time this year did i see the kids give up.you cant believe some stuff you read on here, the kids respect(phil) very much, you could tell they were a young team, you could also tell a young coaching staff, but thats how you learn, they will be very respectable next year.
again good luck friday !!
Raider Nation,
I really dont see anyone coming close to Charter oak this year, and i believe anyone from the bottom half could go to the finals, iv'e seen south hills a few times this year, they have the talent but for some reason dont seem to be very smooth out there, but that doesnt mean they wont be.Charter oak is the best team in the valley this year.
Bishop is good but i think CO would beat them 7 out of 10 times, and i say that because i have seen them both play.
I take it your from Rowland, if so, good luck friday, La Serna is very good. (again- just my opinion.)
So what happend at the SH game why did alex get kicked out
SHHS, great win last night. Question why can’t the coach keep his cool on the side line! That was embarrassing seeing him run out to the numbers throw his head set toward the officials after Barrios (wearing #9 last night) was kicked out of the game! Then to see that women running out past the number, yelling at the officials as well, how was that the principal, or his wife? Then after the game Aino and Nonu could not even meet at the 50 yard line to shake because they were , to amped up and could not control their RAGE, and had to be held back by the staff. SH show some class, keep rolling over your opponents and look like champions. I was embarrassed to sit on your sidelines last night.
rgd2626,
You always seem to be a fair and honest fan. Your Conquerors went through a rebuilding year but whether through relief and releaguing or a few years of experience I do believe Los Altos will live to see better days. My question is though given you have seen about every team play in the Southeast Division who do you think realistically has the been chance of winning C.I.F.?
GREAT GAME ROWLAND!! Would have been nice to have someone from the Tribune there to cover it. When will the Rowland players and coaches get some respect? These are "neighborhood" kids working their butts off to become good players - not ready-made, out-of-the-area guys, and look what they have accomplished with the help of their "veteran" head coach and staff. Snyder has been coaching for over 30 years, but of course doesn't get the credit that a coach at say, South Hills, would get. Doesn't have the luxury of having great players from all over the place flocking to Rowland to play football. Give some credit where it is due. GREAT JOB GUYS!!
The Central is not overly tough with the SAL, Mt. Baldy and Sunbelt leagues. Those leagues would also get their butts handed to them in the Eastern Division as well. The Baseline and Sierra leagues should have been kept in the inland and the Inland Valley League should have been kept in the central. However it is also a numbers thing due to the 8 team league out in the IE. Having four qualifiers screws everything up.
Good job to WC and my old teammate Mike M.
Rosemead awaits the Saints and will be on top of their game. No matter who is back, the Panthers will line up with anyone! FEAR THE MEAD!
There were approximately 2200 people this morning at the Amat Open House. The place was packed and Amat did a great job of selling the school.
reality czech
Go take a cold shower and nut up! You lost, deal with it and quit crying.
Its funny watching bloggers play you guys like little b--ches.
The Stang Fan,
very classy blog, i wish another school would learn from you, but that will never happen.
good luck next year !!!

we beat DB and Glendora , SH beat ayala we are talking head to head buddy. and for anybody saying anything about Ricky Johnson and He is the Best Kept secret in the east valley and we like it that way, He is only a JR too , You peeps think WC is good this year. Wait til next year,
AZTEC DAD???
Come on now, that looks classless and tasteless! Saying those thing about Coach Schuster, is not the AZUSA way! People from AZUSA are usually respectful, and for you to come on the board saying those things are absurd!
I don't know what Schuster must have done to you, but i've always known him as a respectful person. Okay maybe he didn't get us over to the other side of the fence, but! HIS HEART WAS ALWAYS WAS TOO WIN!
Schuster, has mentored and coach my son #47 ARCEO, for several years and is one of the coaches who have made him the player he is today!
I have the utter most respect for COACH SCHUSTER!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU COACH WITH SAN DIMAS!
AZTEC PRIDE!
Que Vivan Los Aztecas. Good job out there.
Go Falcons....
Congrats to the Saints. Great job last night Erek Brown youre the man.
To the Rosemead coach that asked me a few weeks ago "when is Nico coming back". Hes back! Also Kyle Withem will be getting on the ride this week. Just in time for the Mead to get a look.
GO SAINTS!!!
GO SAINTS BAND!!!
Werd Up!!!
La Habra pulled all there starters after the first series of the 3rd Qtr. And still Anaheim was that bad that our 2nd and 3rd team still held them to 0 points.
Congratulations to the Tartan players! You did us proud! Congratulations to the Tartan fans, who lost a coin toss, drove 2 hours (yes 2 hours) out into the desert, and put more fans in the seats than West Valley. I sat next to an older couple who had no one on the team. Their granddaughter was a cheerleader a couple of years ago. They just love watching the team play. That is a true fan.
Highlanders beware, here we come. Upland, that is a cakewalk of a drive!!
Then after Charter Oak, South Hills will take a dive, watch.
To LilBushleague
The Sierra league teams have played 3 games vs the SAL and are 3-0. Chino beat Pacific 43-6,Chino Hills beat San Gorgonio 42-20 and last night 52-13. In case you don't know the SAL league the teams are Cajon,Colton,San Gorgonio,San Bernardino,Pacific and Arroyo Valley. I would suggest checking MaxPreps.
can';t someone say somthing
about Ricky Johnson? He just seems to roll on.
amat falls, charter choak is next.
werd up
La Habra,
83-0?
Seriously......83-0?
How does your coach let it get that bad? What exactly were you trying to prove? You left your starters in for the 3rd quarter when you were up 42-0 at half? WHY?
83-0?
83-0????????
Look out for La Habra
83-0 in any CIF game is unheard of in any Division.
There offensive skilled players are awesome and there defense held Anaheim to 69 total yards..Well balanced team and great coaching too..
your next-the thing about drive-by bloggers like beautiful day, bye-bye, werd up, and amnot(very smart) is they never say what inferior school THEY support
Mom,
I dont think you understood what i said he went to a program that was use to winning plus he went from Head Coach to an assistant. I played both under Sherf and Shuster and i wish Sherf would have been my senior year coach. I have first hand experience with him.
GREAT SEASON STANGS
WE ONLY LOSE DUE TO NOT GETTING THE BALL 2 TYREE HE'S THE PASADENA STARNEWS PLAYER OF THE YEAR GIVE HIM THE BALL
TO DB FAN
Yeah you get to play a very weak SAL and get your Asses handed to you LOL
SAL over the Sierra 3 to 1 head to head match ups this year.
Stang Fan,
You guys have nothing to hang your heads about, DR has always had the potential to beat anyone in the conference, just too many issues, too much inconsistency. Great credit due to your Coach and crew keeping all of the boys eligible and together all year.
Sad when it ends early and sadder yet with the potential you all have, but a good run nonetheless.
Panthers, Chargers, and all the other round one winners: well done. Take about ten minutes for yourselves and then back to work on next week.
Rest of you guys: Lidle tourney next week.
beautiful day and all you other fools,
Don't think that just because Amat lost the bloggers will be silent. When it's your turn to get your ass handed to you down the line I'll be one of the first to post "ha ha you guys can't cut it in your cupcake league", "losers", "pathetic team", and other goodies that will come to mind. He who laughs last, laughs best.
I like to thank the SGV Tribune, for putting AZUSA, ON THE FRONT PAGE OF TODAYS PAPER!
What an HONOR, and definitely a (FRAMER)!!!
#25! RAULEY ZARAGOSA, that was probably the best performance i've see in a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME! I can honestly say, that you almost single handedly won the GAME FOR AZUSA! (4) INTERCEPTIONS, scoring on OFFENSE at will! GREAT JOB! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
To the WHOLE team of AZUSA, GOOD JOB ON KEEPING FOCUS AND DISCIPLINE THROUGH OUT THE GAME!
COACH SCHERF,BETTLE,MUNCIE,BUBBA, YOU'VE BEEN WITH AZUSA THROUGH OUT YOUR ENTIRE CAREERS THEIR, AND THIS COULDN'T BE A MORE PROUDER MOMENT FOR YOUR STAFF!
GOOD JOB!
COACH SCHUSTER, TO BAD YOU COULDN'T BE OUT THERE WITH THE TEAM! BECAUSE YOU PLANTED THE SEED IN THESE KIDS! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
AZTEC PRIDE!
The word is ARROGANT.
From one with a REAL education.
Yes...it is a beautiful day! After last night we no longer have to read the comments posted by arragant AMAT fans! Good luck to all the REAL local SGV teams who advanced to the next round!
amnot (very smart)-I think it was directed at you two drive-by artists, who I now think are the same person. otherwise what are you both doing posting at 3:30AM? never mind-don't wanna know.
recruit this-interesting that you mention worrying about that "lock-down" city a day after Los Altos get's locked down wit hSWAT teams crawling over their neighborhood. Or shortly after gang war lords are taken away by a massive police raid around the corner from South Hills. Yeah-worry about the "barrio" all you want- your neighborhood might be next.
Congrats Amat,
Your boys and coaching staff played a great game last night. Be proud and remember this feeling so it doesnt happen next year. Amat is back, I was sitting with Poly fans and they couldnt believe how well disciplened AMat was and they were very impressed. Good job!
Aztec Dad, Sell out....
Dont think shuster needs to know how your ass taste... His team is 10-1 and moving on to 2nd round in a much higher league than montview.... so that record that SD holds must say something about Schusters coaching....he is doing something right....And by the way im an Azusa Alumini....
Just a few observations:
1. Good job to Joe and the fine job he has done at Azusa this year. I played with Joe during the late 80's at Azusa and what he has accomplished has been extremely important to the school and the city of Azusa. As someone said, earlier, Coach Drake (loved that man) is smiling down from heaven (he passed a few years ago).
2. Bishop Amat is back and the entire SGV should be afraid. Yes, they lost to Poly, but no one gave them a chance to even be in the game. I'm not a fan of Amat, but I am a realist. Amat will be going back to how it was in the 80's and 90s.............DOMINATING
3. What is the situation at LP and Wilson? I can't believe no one knows (meaning Fred) the situations at both of those high schools. Hey Fred, be a journalist and report your findings. I don't think talking about those 2 sorry schools will get you fired!
Monster Sighting at Covina District Field...Hey be nice you shouldnt talk about the NV fans like that. After all beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Congratulations to all the local schools that continue on the road to a champonship.
To all you dumbass drive by's viruses. Take notice, move over and hail to the Lancers. Amat is back and next year will be even better.
Is this arrogance directed to the SGV and especially to the CO fans that cheered when they heard the 1st half score?
hail to the lancers?
Looks like Amat scored the most points against their highly touted Defense and gave the Jackwabbits the most competitive game of their lives!
AND YOU STILL CHOKED AND YOUR SEASON IS OVER BYE BYE AMAT FANS HA HA
To go toe-to-toe with undefeated Long Beach Poly is a statement that doesn't need explanation.
ITS CALL AN AMAT CHOKE AMAT STINKS SEASON OVER WERD UP
reader your amat team choked haa haa season over losers werd up
Well, someone called Muir the "King of the One-and -dones." As they say....if the crown fits, wear it.
First and foremost, CONGRATS to the Diamond Ranch Panthers! They played like champs tonight. They seemed to want it more and were definitely more physical up front. That corner #4 is a beast! He completely shut down his third of the field. That scholie to UCLA is WELL-EARNED and I'm sure he'll be seeing a lot of time at the Rose Bowl the next few years. Coach Layton took a ton of heat early on about the schedule, but it paid dividends tonight. I've mentioned before that I'm a fan of his and I wish his team well throughout the rest of the playoffs. Great game DR and good luck!!!
As for my Stangs, well....not much I can say. They played well all season and earned that 9-1 record, but here they are at home again while others move on. Turnovers, penalties, overthrown passes, lack of a strong running game, failure to block on punts...and as horrible as THAT sounds there was more. Just a HORRIBLE night overall, and DR had A LOT to do with it, and once again the Stangs end their season early. Unfortunate....
Folks in the stands were complaining about coaching, resources, small population, and on and on. But it is what it is. Nothing's going to change. If Muir wants to return to it's former glory then all you parents, fans, and alumni need to step it up. Yes it's terrible that the PUSD could care less about the success of it's athletic programs, but it's NOT GOING TO CHANGE! If you care, you'll step up. If not, then don't complain.
As for me....well I'm handcuffed to a wall with a bulls-eye on my face, and I've lined up four dozen eggs for any and all bloggers to launch right at me. You all know I can dish it, but today I'm here to TAKE IT!!! Dranchhhh, Dan, Don, TM, ranch pride, Husky City, Freddie J and whomever else I failed to mention, grab your eggs. Ready...set...LAUNCH!!!!
Congrats to all the winners and good luck!!!
Btw Amat, although you guys didn't pull it out tonight....even us folks on the west side couldn't be ANY PROUDER of you guys!!! Great season!
Stang....=CHONNNNNNK!
Colts....=CHONNNK!
Anaheim....=GRAND CHONK!!!
And especially to guru hater SHHS...."CHONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNK!"
WOW
What happen tonight?Couldn't Finish? Wow, I want to send my kid to that lock down city.. LOL
GREAT DAY FOR HS FOOTBALL
D Ranch congrats to you and a great game played against a very good team.
Sierra league doing well again.....
Amat loses tonight and already they start their illegal recruiting of our public school athletes. The post about an open house on Saturday is FLAT OUT ILLEGAL and just plain wrong.
CO is the best team in the valley....
how about chino hills high and ayala not bad for one city......
go sgv
Monster Sighting at Covina District Field...by the name of Andrew Rodriguez (linebacker and rb for Northview). I've seen the kid 2 times before, and after tonight, I would have to say he's one of the top players in the valley by far. The kid dominated running the footbll and had a pick and 10 plus tackles tonight. Way to go Andrew- Stud
bye bye _ _ _ _
If you believe that is an AMAT faithful then you my friend are awarded the first scarlet A . Who's next?
The reason I can say that with confidence is that by this time you should know who THE FAITHFUL are and if you don't by now then you truely are an ass_ole. Hence the scarlet A
To all the fellow SGV teams who came out on top congratulations and victory next week even thought it means knocking each other off. WE ARE THE SGV .
To DR thank you so much for taking care of Muir. We both cut down the best they had to offer, and to Fred make Miguel pay for a complete spread at the Dal Rae complements of the East SGV.
Amat almost pulls the upset of the century. The Coaching is in place. Why would you not want to be coached by the best staff in the Valley? Check them out at OPEN HOUSE today. Look at their website.
aztec dad
Who in the world would want to stay at Azusa with Dad's like you? LOL
Have another BUD!
readershiphater
Happy Holidays you loser!
Great job Charter Oak on a great win over Bell Gardens bring on the next team Charter Oak is going all the way they are a championship team Chris Allen and Adam Muema are # 1 and are going to lead the Chargers all the way so watch out sgv Charter Oak returning to its prime and great job to diamond ranch who knew my hats off to u and all of u bagging on sgv teams were just better than u so stop crying u guys want some cheese to go with that whine
Shuster how does his as taste. I remember everyone said it wasnt shusters fault that azusa could not win now we know who's fault it really was. Running the ball 99 percent of the time. Sell Out you quit on the kids.
I know of aschool in L.A county that will beat everyone in the valley and state. The USC Trojans. Education pretty much the same as a high school but great sports.
Shuster how does my ass taste?
OK OK you huskie insider. wow Talking S--t after your big win . Wow you beat Schurr,BIG DEAL Did you see how the almont leaugue did 0-3 Yeah we hope we win next week too But you might not make it pass DR . Go to Sleep LOL
Scherf IS the COY...there is no valid argument against him.
Hey readership...amat owns the sgv...the blogs are going to get boring and the hits are going to become lesser cuz amat is out. might as well shut down the blog fredj...there are no fans like amat fans...don't deny it...accept it.. Everyone from the sgv, the inland empire, orange county, up north, down south...the east coast...come to Amat..we competed with the #5 team in the NATION who has a ton of talent. We have the coaches.. Now we need the talent. Dennis twins...don't go to Long Beach Poly...its all about the Amat blue and gold...
I agree the only reason i would give it to Sherf instead of Hagerty is because of the playoff win. Both schools had losing records last year and had tremendous turnarouns this year but i think a playoff win in his first year and first since '75 gets my vote.
coach Sherf should be the coach of the year. has this team playing like a team. go Sherf
did anyone heard what happened at the Diamond Ranch and Muir game? I heard they rushed the field after losing???
to all you trash talking Amat fans on these SGV blogs
na na na na... na na na na... hay hay hay... goodbye.....
=)
WTF ? I was @ the RHS game not Glendora game , congrats to all WINNERS & better luck next year losers,
FIGHT ON
TM
Congrats Azusa on their first CIF win since 1975...
Somewhere, Coach Burch Drake is smiling...
All i know is that Azusa's Quarterback is not scared to take a hit actually he delivers hit ha ha he lowered his shoulders and ran through people today at least 5 times.
That the Azusa Quarterback is being scouted by Oregon State and it makes sense he reminds me of the quarterback they have now.
redemption.....feels so good to undo what happened on the first game...DR is hitting on all cylinders...would be a honor to play south hills one of the best team in the SGV...but let it be known DR is prime and ready to kick some -ss!!
I never thought I would read that Azusa would beat Covina in a football game. This game was probably literally the worst Covina loss in many years as well as the best win for Azusa in many years. If your a Colts fan you should feel shame, if your an Aztec fan you should feel proud. Wow, Azusa literally beat Covina that's pathetic and humiliating!
Congratulations to the Azusa Aztecs first playoff win since '75.
Hey CV, im pretty sure your not going back on this blog after your team got spanked, but if u do, im sorry i said by 3 tds, i shouldve said 4
AMAT 73
Back? When? 1-2 in your league that your designed to play in, at large bid and a lost.
10-0 at half and you give it up!
Back my a--.
Its called "Home for the Holidays"
Bye Bye Amat. Tribune will have to focus on the winners now.. LOL
Azusa played a good game!
There is no way Covina should have lost!
It was to bad that their back up QB wasn't prepared and what a shame to see him have a tantrum and get ejected!!! Plus, their offense coaches need to learn how to get the plays off sooner instead wasting time, since it's a no huddle offense!
You Coaches need to learn to utilize the rest of the talent that's on the team! This way your starting QB doesn't get hurt.
amat is back,
fair enough. again, good luck to all the sgv teams that are still in the hunt. it seems that the sgv has been well represented tonight with most of the teams. surprised by diamond ranch's when. great win for them. congratulations dr!
Trojan Man
Have a fast ride back from West Valley just in time to read the scores?
Dude, you're a dead give away.
TO MR. SHUT UP,
You my friend get it.We are the SGV and now we can take care of our part of the deal. WE ARE BACK. Great COACHING showed it's face tonight and it was on our sideline. If you build it, it will come and believe me they will come and like you all say we can recruit from all parts far far away so we won't upset the apple cart .We learned a whole lot from last week as far as what it would take and tonight we came up a little short. But short to a team and program that is where we are striving to be at again. What a turnaround for a proud program. Maybe this is heavy hearted and of course the bashers will have a feeding frenize on it but so be it .
Maybe that is is what FC was try to say.It really is all about football and SGV FOOTBALL which in my opinion can hang with anybody. If you want to bash us now well the line for the SCARLET LETTER STARTS HERE X .
WE ARE AMAT
Diamond Ranch your next on our list and our program has waited a long time to show you what an explosive offense can do to an overrated defense. West Covina you better win your football game next week too so we can go payback on you as well. Revenge one game at a time which means you too Rowland and yes that means Charter Oak your going to have to buy tickets to come watch us play in December. Our men will be healthy next week back alive and well. Be afraid of us San Gabriel Valley be very afraid because a month from now we will be right back where we started and that's ranked #1 in the Valley with our M.V.P. to go along with our C.I.F. Championship rings! Good night boys sweet dreams...
7-2
I truly believe Amat will get some serious transfers during the year from the Monrovia/Duarte area, Pasadena, Diamond Bar, IE, Chino Hills and surrounding cities that we lost during our decline. We have a great talent base in the SGV and those that want to play and be measured against the best will play at Amat. That is my guess and logical assumption. All the top D1 programs gets the pick of the litter from all over. Mater Dei is in Santa Ana and gets the best players from the entire OC and as far as North San Diego county.
Where's Stang Fan & Duke 13?
Nice game Diamond Ranch.
There was NO DOUBT that CVC were bigger , but RHS is FLAT OUT a better TEAM ! San Dimas better get ready .The Panthers are on the prowl ...STILL !
Fight On
TM
I dont know about amat beating northwester, florida its going to be a long trip and time change can affect their bodies. plus ive seen northwestern on tv and those florida kids are FAST!!!! im not hating on amat they did and incredible year this year and will be very very good next year but so will other teams.
amat is back,
do you really think amat has a shot at being as good next year? doesn't amat lose an awful lot of players from this year's team? i sincerely hope so and give them a chance with the coaching i'm sure will take place. but somewhere in the back of my mind, i still think it'll be a tall task. i certainly hope you're right though. it's been truly amazing to watch this team this year. i look forward to continuing to follow the team next year as well. on another note, i forgot to mention how wonderfully the o and d lines played. they were really good tonight.
To all you dumbass drive by's viruses. Take notice, move over and hail to the Lancers. Amat is back and next year will be even better.

Looks like Amat scored the most points against their highly touted Defense and gave the Jackwabbits the most competitive game of their lives!
Stang,
I think ranch dressing will make the CROW your eating right now taste better.
Left with 6 minutes left but Diamond Ranch was up 21-0 over Muir. Muir may be the most over-hyped team I've ever seen. They were terrible. No long snapper so they couldn't punt (DR didn't even have to block them. They just tackled the punter as soon as he go the ball). Muir's QB has 10 yard range and their line was fat and slow and did I mention fat? 0-0 game, three minutes before half and Muir has fourth an 2 ib their own 41. They call time out and run a....wait for it.....quarterback sneak! They haven't run up the middle the whole game, DR is stacking the box and they run a quarterback sneak. Duh, 1st down DR. They go on to drive for the first score right before half and it was OVER. Muir quit.
See ya, actually my team is still in the playyoffs have you heard of C.O yup
Shut up
The only kite that's flying is your team going home for the holidays.
Oh, who's crying now? Its going to fun hearing all the excuses and what if's..
Spin it Joe, can't wait..
what a game! oh, what a game! unfortunately amat came out on the losing end of this one, but when it was 10-0 at halftime, people were stunned. in the end, poly did what champions do, made plays when it had to. here are a few plays i thought had a huge impact on the game tonight. the fumble return to the 10 or so yard line. two possible picks, though not uncontested, dropped by johnson (who along with price showed why i consider them the best cornerback tandem i've seen this year), 1 that would have been an easy touchdown. on poly's last drive, 1 third and 8 to 10 converted to the rb in the flat and another 3rd and 10 converted by #1 to the 10 or so yard line. amat's last drive, ball batted down by the d-end from poly that would have been a first down to Ibrahim. all in all, great game and great season for the lancers. they seem to be on the right track. san gabriel valley, you would have been proud. good luck to the rest of the teams from the area that are still in it.
See Ya shut up and go fly a kite.
SGVFBFAN
Bye Bye Amat, one and done!
Almost means you go home. Have a happy thanksgiving watching the winners next week.
SH 40
Schurr 21
anyone have other central division scores?
SH score, anyone?
what a freaking heartbreaker, our kids hung so tough, that LBP team does have a lot of talent, but we did what we alwyas seem to do, play hard, smart and with a lot of pride and heart, Amat will play anyone, anywhere, anytime and fight like hell, what more can you say!
To the lancers and Amat staff....what a hell of game! A thriller at Veterans stadium. It went right down to the wire. You almost shocked the football world. You gave those #1 Jackrabbits all they can handle. I think Lara was almost having a cardiac arrest on the sidelines. You could have heard a pin drop on their side during the first half...you kept them silent and worried. We were one stop away on 3rd and out with less than 3 minutes to victory when score was at 17-14 Amat leading. It was not to be..but you made us all proud anyway!!!! Way to represent the SGV. Let's start the rebuilding process tomorrow!
That announcer was annoying and seem to have given the home team an edge with all the biased cheering and rooting for the home team. Shouldn't the announcer be neutral?
Thanks CO for cheering for us. We are sure you will be representing the SGV well too.
Way to go D.R...
to !stang fan !
What happened? I've kept quiet all season but now i must speak. You may have one the little battle at the begining of the season but we won the War! We keep playing and you get to watch...Why don't you go get a salad and pour some of that great ranch dressing on it. It will probably be really hard to swallow for you. Or maybe not...
Thank you Fred.
If it rains like they say it will and it being the night after Thanksgiving, I like our chances.
Brave fans get to see the craziest-wildest team in the division. Don't miss the circus.
JFR go to:
http://lang.sgvtribune.com/preps/scoreboard/week11.asp
updates instantly as yo watch
west covina won 28 to 18 they play burbank next at home .burbank upset a # 1 seed santa fe .goooo bulldogs
FJR, why does it take so long to post some of the scores every week. In today's day and age it should take a matter of minutes. I'm a computer MORON yet could put together a quicker system. What are the finals on SH and the Cal- CV games, it's 10:30.
anyone know the score from the west covina bonita game?
Jeez, talk about a Covina meltdown...
Stupid penalties, unforced turnovers, injuries to key starters and last but not least a tantrum that ended with an ejection...
Thanks to Azusa for being great hosts and btw you guys have the best band I have seen in a long time...
Thanks again and good luck moving forward next week...
Joe Colt...
whats the score of santa fe and burbank.look out for west covina
CONGRATS TO AMAT. EVERYONE DID CHEER AT THE C.O. GAME WHEN WE HEARD THE HALF TIME SCORE.
ARAM OR FRED, IF C.O. SMOKES EVERONE ELSE BY BIG SCORES, DO THEY HAVE ANY KIND OF SHOT AT A BOWL GAME?
I believe Temple City plays Azusa
Its TC against Azusa and their Spread Offense in the next round Aram.
Rowland 22 - Burroughs 21....Lets hear the smack talk now about Rowland...What happened to the "Stangs" that I've had to read about week after week???
Went to TC-Arroyo. This game looked and felt more like the type of game these two would play in Week 1 of the season. Neither offense did much (obviously). Neither offense could get anything going thru the air. Considering Arroyo lost 34-0 to TC earlier this season, I'd say they've improved a lot over the past 10 weeks. Arroyo almost got the break of a lifetime late in the 4th on a muffed punt by the Rams, but the Knights didn't recover deep in TC territory. Not sure who TC plays next round, but they might be in trouble if the offense doesn't figure it out. And if Arroyo is as young as I think they are, they could be a force over the next two years.
BA, we were checking scores at the half and our chins dropped after seeing your score. No bashing on the amat, good game and a good year, CONGRATS! I think the SGV as a whole is starting to make others think twice, DR shuts out Muir and the other ranked teams are looking good.
DID LA HABRA RUN UP THE SCORE ON PURPOSE? THAT SEEMS REALLY EXTREME. ITS NOT LIKE THE BCS IS GOING TO LOOK AT THEM.
Even though Amat lost at the end of the season they are still the best team in the valley hands down. Charter oak would be the only team to come close but head to head Amat would be better. Great Job and Nice season.
AZTECS, YOU MADE THE CITY OF AZUSA PROUD!
AZTECS PRIDE
upland wins 52-18. rematch with glendora coming up... again...
Fred-
How do you spell overrated?
And could you please send another Whittier area school to play the 818?
Diamond Ranch is starting to get hot at the right time beating Muir who was suppose to get to the Final (supposed)
Great Game by the Azusa Aztecs. Alot of people said they wouldnt be physical enough for the Colts but they got the job done 27-6 Final Score. Great Accomplishment nothing bad can be said about the season they are having.
this azusa team is starting to remind me of our duarte team in 06. Everyone picked us to lose against la canada in the first round and we beat them 27-6 also. We went on to lose to verbum dei( midvalley champs for that year) in the first round. Good job aztecs, always was the only team we respected in the montview. Now its our turn tomorrow.
Does anyone know St. Francis' score?
LA HABRA 83
ANAHEIM 0

Omg... are u serious? Its 7:55 and Halftime Already? Come on now? Colts Fan Rejoice. We will win. Kudos to all SGV Teams this first round.
I sure hope Paul Pierce said It is our time to shine. Hat to think his education went to waste.
uuummmm... that was PAUL Pierce... and OUR time to shine - but I get your drift.
Off to Long Beach - can't decide between The Roadhouse Grill or Lucilles BBQ both on Carson. If they're crowded or I'm late - Cirevellos Pizza
Good luck to all!
QUOTING RICKY PIERCE, FROM THE BOSTON CELETICS, AFTER WINNING THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP..
"IT'S ARE TIME TO SHINE, IT'S ARE TIME TO SHINE, IT'S ARE TIME TO SHINE,IT'S ARE TIME TO SHIIIIINNEEE".LOL...
AZTECS IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE!
Good Luck West Covina, show up like you did last week, with intensity, heart, & focus, know your task, & lay it all on the line tonight, most of all, may nobody from either side get injured, just a clean hard hitting game.
GO BULLDOGS!!!!!
sgvpride...you had to be there.
Like I said what made memorable was that he wasn't a coach! Never been to any of the practices. He'd graduated 3 years before! He was a guy who came out of the stands, went into the locker room (probably because his older brother was a coach and he was pretty intinidating as a person) and just TOOK OVER!
No script, no "Hey Coach can i say a few words?" Nothing! Just was intent on telling us to get our act together.
It was extremely brave on his part. I'm sure millions of people every year THINK..."If I could just tell the team ..this or that...IF..IF...IF..."
Well this guy didn't just sit on his hands. He took action. No one who was in that locker room that night will forget his words, his passion, the force of his conviction, his booming voice and his near to tears plea for action. It was an extremely powerful moment that I will always be gratefull to have experienced. Hopefully, as Joey mentioned, someone will inspire their team tonight.
Sports is about those moments. Maybe I'm old fashioned or just a little sentimental come playoff time but seriously didn't that take a lot of guts to storm in like that?
The way he said "FOR (long pause) EVER!( Long on the EEEEE ve ! Dude it gives me chills!
ALter boy
"Some day you will look
back on this day and it will either haunt you or be your greatest moment of pride. But it will be FOREVER!!!! Every class that came before you has heard the comments nand suffered the indignities. "You're soft! Catholic schools boys are sissies!!' Suer you can fight nad settle things with your fists but what doe sthat prove? Sure you can say this and that and argue til the cows come home...but what doe sit prove? Sometime next week and FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! you will come across those players in life...maybe with your girlfriend, maybe with your friends...maybe with your parents. Yeah you'll wear your colors and that jacket but what will it mean if they beat you TODAY! It'll mean nothing! FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER...for the rest of your life!!! NOTHING! Every class that has come before you is in the stands. Wishing they were in here with you. With you on the field. KICKING THE SH*T OUT OF ROOSEVELT! BUT THEY ARE NOT! YOU ARE...yes YOU. It has fallen on you. This is your time. This is OUR TIME. You will either lose this game forever or you will be a winner forever. FOR.... EVER! So before you go out on that field think about every time you walk past that Foster Freeze and see those Red Jackets...will you hide you face or will you walk proud. Whatever you decide kow that everyone wishes they were you. When you go back out ther know you are not alone. When you win...I WIN....SALESIAN WINS!!!! EVERY PERSON WHO HAS SACRIFICED FOR YOU HAS WON. YOUR PARENTS HAVE PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE TO MAKE YOU MUSTANGS!!!!!!! (THE LOCKER ROOM WAS CHEERING BEYOND BELIEF) FOREVER IS NOW!!!! THIS WILL LAST A LIFETIME!!!!!! THIS WIN WILL LAST FOREVER!!!!! GO OUT THERE AND KICK THE SH8T OUT OF ROOSEVELT AND TELL THEM THE ALTAR BOYS LKICKED THEIR ASS!!!!!!!!
Just a little curious?? how the heck did you remember that speech?
Good luck tonight to all the teams representing the SGV..
I'll be at the Covina-Azusa game rooting for the Colts. Lets go Valle Vista League represent & send all the pretenders home!!!
& 2 all the Amat fans keep the faith!! Beating Poly will be a very hard task but if any1 can do it you guys can!!
My Pal Joey...that was classic.
Tough choice tonight. Would love to see my kid brother DC at Cathedral tonight but really would like to see Rosemead bfore they are done and would like to see Amat for the 4th time but Mater Dei is tough and Rollinson is getting on and all and well Barkley ...never seen him yet...but then again..Dan's West covina Boys are aching for respect...and Schurr as I rememeber it had some of the prettiest girls back in tha day and well moms 20..okay...30 years later might be a trip...lol...maybe some i know personally...and Bell Gardens....back in the day ..you know...homies....and seeing as Charter Oak is sooo tough.....well that might be wishful thinking but some of those kids are tough...and then there is Diamond Ranch...mad respect for Roddy and his coaches and players.....but then I have to hear all that NOISE from the HUCKSTER side of town....loud...but carzy fun there....what to do....then again there's Glendora all the way to Hemet...nice ride...get to open up my baby....vrrrooommmm!
Still I think this year amat played an incredible season. the best Part I think is seeing the games, on the field, that the athletes from other schools came to play with.
Here's my biggest beef since transplanting out here. PLAY THE BEST!
FIND THE BEST GAMES. PLAY THE BEST TEAMS AND FORGET ABOUT THE WINS...THEY WILL COME.
Just like in academics. The best schools turn away the best students but keep the special ones for themselves.
Amat will be in a war tonight. SO F*CKING WHAT!!!!!! BEEN THERE DONE THAT! LANCERS WILL NEVER QUIT!!!!
If tonight is the last game for the Original Carpool Brothers I salute you. Friendship knows no color. Loyalty knows no end. You are AMAT LANCERS...FOREVER!
My Friend,
That was GREAT! I did get chills (no tears - I wasn't there...but I get it) I ran out of the office and tackled a co-worker. I don't know why... I just KNEW WHAT TO DO!
(not really... but I WANTED to!:?)
My hope would be that every athlete have at least one memory like that at some time in their career. Maybe for some it will be tonight !
My senior year we played Roosevelt High school. It was a game the community had asked for for a very long time. Salesian is an all boys schools of great pride and tradition. Roosevelt is a school with greatre numbers and many more storied athletes.
When the game was announced every one circled that day on their calendar. Word out of Roosevelt was that the Roughriders were going to take the Altar Boys to the woodshed.
The game was played at ELA College. Although it was not on the scale of a Garfield Rossevelt game it was huge! Public vs Private in the 70's was incredible.
We were down at half time. The Head Coach Gill Ruedaflores paced the locker room looking for words to get us out of our funk. Were we scared? Wwere we outmatched? Were we outcoached? The thoughts ran over us. Coach started to talk about this and that and looked at the other coahces for a second and ...then it happened.
The greatest halftime speech I've ever heard.
Coach Zavala's brother came in hot as hell. He'd graduated three years earlier. Wasn't on any coaching staff or had any thing to do with the school anymore.
We were all stunned. "Where did he come from?' Then he tore into us.
"Some day you will look back on this day and it will either haunt you or be your greatest moment of pride. But it will be FOREVER!!!! Every class that came before you has heard the comments nand suffered the indignities. "You're soft! Catholic schools boys are sissies!!' THIS WILL LAST A LIFETIME!!!!!! THIS WIN WILL LAST FOREVER!!!!! GO OUT THERE AND KICK THE SH8T OUT OF ROOSEVELT AND TELL THEM THE ALTAR BOYS LKICKED THEIR ASS!!!!!!!!
The team roared out of the locker room. No one knew why...no one needed to be told it was time...no one needed any assignment check or adjustments...WE KNEW WHAT TO DO!
We came back with a vengence. Roosevelt faught to the last man but in the end we prevailed,
Never saw Coach Zavala's brother again that season or ever again. But he was the reason we won that game. He died about 10 years later before his 35 birthday from a heart attack. Never got to tell him what he meant to us that night.
It is still the greatest speech I have ever heard because it asked us to confront our present fears and put them to use for a greater good. To this day every time I think about that speech I get chills and am almost brought to tears.
Hoepfully someone will movea team tonight to great heights....win or lose...it's for ever!
FIRST PLAYOFF NIGHT
LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
PLAY SAFE PLAY CLEAN
CHARGERS BRING IT HOME
THIS IS THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE
THANKS TRIBUNE SPORTS AND BLOGGERS
dont worry bishop amat when tonights over you will still have all the bragging rights over the samll san gabriel valley schools
=)
Fred should go back to the archives and remove all the character attacks on Verti, Mike D., and variuos other players and coaches.
Don...
I made a little typo there... I meant to say that I feel a little sorry for Azusa not Amat... although I'm afraid I might feel a little sorry for the Lancers at about 10pm tonight...
Fred,
That was easy, I rewrote it two or three times trying to be nice.
Cold day in hell "everyone in covina should be rooting for Amat" don't think so...
JW,
Good analysis, interesting that there are several “knowledgeable guys” on the local prep boards who have warned all week of a possible Lakewood upset of Servite in round one. We'll see.
Hard for me to feel sorry for the Lancers, they may yet be a little short of a dream season, but few would have predicted the kind of year they have already had.
Goldenarm,
Great point on the motivational challenges the extended season brings.
The best Coaches, the guys who go deep into the playoffs year after year know about this and plan for it. This is especially true during football season when it gets darker earlier and kids seem to be a little bit more weary. Add to that the usual enticements of girlfriends, jobs, and the holidays. Guys are also thinking about upcoming seasons when they see their schoolmates practicing basketball, soccer, and even baseball. Ahhh the lure of the new and unknown.
Frank, dont u ever know when 2 lay off the sauce ?
Get a life, or at the very lest, get a job.
everyone in covina should be rooting for Amat. If they win, it just goes to show how strong our valley is over here. Especially Charter Oak. It's obvious were not set up to play any huge teams this year except for Rancho cuc. but anyone who has seen C.O. play this year(even non C.O. fans) know that they deserve to be in a bowl game. Good luck Amat.

Just Wondering
As far as your question on "do these teams have a chance"? Particularly the overlooked or sub-500 record teams?
Winning their bracket - the answer is absolutely yes. There will be upsets and surprises as some teams come in peaking - others may struggle and lose for all the normal and fluke reasons football games are lost for.
Sometimes bloggers (and coaches) look at a Calpreps/Maxpreps summary and skim a game film or two and think they know what they need to know. Full blown preparation truly comes to the forefront at this time of year. It pays to know how opponents see and interpret your strength and weaknesses. Giving kids a real expectation of who and what they can expect to see Friday - can be huge and give an edge toward the upset minded.
While you would think kids are high on the playoff opportunity, the reality is a good percentage begin grumbling about the extra innings and long practice sessions -and in doing so, become tougher to motivate. It is this ho-hum attitude that although I understand it....how could they? You would think the bell would ring in their rising testosterone heads - saying - this is what we have worked for! Crank it up!
And some do just that.
The cliche anybody can beat anybody is not born from fantasy - but has happened over and over again, and not just in Hollywood. However, I would not get my wallet out anytime soon to wager when and where it will happen. Odds wise, a mismatch usually turns out exactly that.

2nd paragraph below...
I feel a little sorry for Azusa... not Amat... typo...
Sorry
JA and Don...
I agree with the idea that if Amat can win, it will be a battle of will power and a lot of good luck. I just don't see LBP making enough mistakes to give Amat a reasonable chance. Either way, Amat has had a great year and Hag has really built a solid foundation upon which to build. Job well done!
I feel a little sorry for Amat. They are the West Covina of their division. A great team that is simply outmatched. If they had one big team to get by (i.e. Paraclete, Northview, San Dimas, Rosemead, etc...) I would give them a fighting chance. But they will need to beat at least two of these teams... and they just can't. What can they do? They can show up. They can keep themselves in each game and maybe have a striking chance late. Azusa, like Amat, has had a remarkable year and even though I was less than impressed early on, I'm an Aztec believe now... I'd love to see them make a run and I'll be pulling for them!
Finally, I think Lakewood is perhaps the most underated team on the board. 4 of their 6 losses were forfeits due to a grade problem with their stud RB. He's all better now, and they are great when he's on the field. Just like San Dimas shouldn't dismiss Sierra Vista and Paraclete shouln't dismiss San Marino, Servite better not dismiss Lakewood... I think they're (Lakewood) good enough to make a run for the championship... we'll see.
My predictions...
Mid-Valley - San Dimas or Rosemead - Paraclete will be just short
South East - Charter Oak or Santa Fe - West Covnia will be just short
Central - Cajon or Rancho Cucamonga - Los Osos will be just short
Pac 5 - Notre Dame or Notre Dame or perhaps Notre Dame - Long Beach Poly will be way short
What do you mean Du-Rock is a gang? I go to all the football games and that's what the chearleaders sing. Relax Mom. No gang affiliation. Just Football.

du- roc crips is a gang, du- roc is just the city nickname, like c- town or m- town.
JW,
As far as the Hags to riches crew has brought Amat this year, I just don't see them having the horses to keep up with Poly; too big, too fast, too many. Is it possible for Poly to lose? Heck, anything is possible. Raul Lara may have a massive brain fart and the wabbits could fall apart, but . . . probably not. As far as that goes, I can't remember the last time LBP lost a round one game. Maybe Joe can tell us.
Azusa running the playoff table? I think that is even less likely than a Lancer win tonight. Too much in front of them, teams who play at a higher level. Really the best I see for them is maybe the Semi's where they would be worked by Paraclete, (or maybe Northview).
Both of these squads have have had terrific years and should the season end tonight, have nothing to be ashamed of. I think Amat has just begun a run towards another era of dominance and i hope they continue to strive to be the best. Azusa plays in the “anything can happen” Montview where the teams seem to have one or two years of league glory and then fall back. We'll see if this current crew can change that.
DU ROCK is a GANG !
Duarte HS Falcons are a TEAM !
Fred please pull that GANG cra$ off !
My take on the Mid Valley;
It will be Rosemead and only Rosemead who will beat itself .
I have seen MOST of the teams in the division & only Northview & San Dimas have a legit chance @ knocking them out of the championship.
San Dimas sooner than Northview.
I am saying this based on facts ! Best of luck to ALL teams in the SGV , I hope everyone remains healthy the rest of the way so nobody can hide behind that , "OH WHAT IF" .
RHS Panthers TCB !!!
FIGHT ON

I LOVE the "Any Given Sunday" speech. Might be the best speech about *football*. But the Marshall speech is especially appropriate to many teams entering high school playoffs....especially our Lancers.
Coach Lengyel, from Marshall says,
"...Today, I want to talk about our opponent this afternoon. They're bigger, faster, stronger, more experienced and on paper, they're just better. And they know it too. But I want to tell you something that they don't know. They don't know your heart. I do. I've seen it. You have shown it to me. You have shown this coaching staff, your teammates. You have shown yourselves just exactly who you are in here[Thumps his chest]..."
And exactly ONE-HALF of ALL teams tonight need to remember,
"...When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose. We may be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the game but if you play like that we cannot be defeated...."
We are..
AMAT!!
Good luck to all!
I have a simple question... what will it take for Amat to beat Poly?
Also, what will it take for Azusa to have a legit chance at a CIF championship?
I realize they will need to beat some great teams (i.e. Rosemead, Northview, San Dimas, etc...)... but what can they (Azusa) do to give themselves the best chance?
Finally, a few good teams are being dismissed early on due to their records... Temple City, Arroyo, Lakewood, etc... all come to mind. Do any of these sub-500 (I know Temple City is 1 gave above 500) teams have a realistic chance?
JA, Don, etc... Give me your thoughts and in a day or two I'll give some of my own.
Good luck to all our hardworking football players tonight!
