Sunday Tribbin

Your thread to blog about anyone and anything you want

With Sherman Oaks Notre Dame's 34-0 win over Loyola on Saturday, it brings the total to five league championships that will be decided this week. There are a lot of possible two-and-three-way ties, which could make the playoff match-ups very interesting depending on the dreaded coin flips. BTW, there will be a Trib Top ten shake-up come Tuesday.

Thursday Night
Sierra League
Ayala's 18-17 win over undefeated Chino Hills gives Glendora a chance to defend its title. If Glendora (6-3, 3-1) beats Ayala (8-1, 4-0), they finish in a two or three-way tie. BTW, South Hills' win over Ayala didn't seem so impressive at the time. But it does now.

San Antonio League
South Hills (8-1, 3-0) can win the title outright with a victory over West Covina (7-2, 2-1), but a Bulldogs win probably sets up a three-way tie. Can you imagine that? South Hills could go from No. 1 in the Southeast to a possible third league entry with a loss and bad coin flip results.

Miramonte League
Ah, finally, a true championship, winner take all. Bonita (7-2, 3-0) hosts unbeaten Charter Oak (8-0-1, 3-0) for all the marbles. Has game of the week written all over it.

Friday Night
Serra League
Bishop Amat (7-2, 1-1) jumped back to No. 14 in the Times after beating Crespi, 22-21, and will play for a share of the Serra against undefeated Notre Dame (9-0, 2-0). They could also fall into a three-way tie for second. The question now is have they already done enough to secure a Pac-5 berth?

Mission Valley League
Though Arroyo (3-6, 3-1) lost to South El Monte, they can still claim a share of the title with a win over undefeated Rosemead (7-2, 4-0), though that seems highly unlikely.

Breaking News, kind of
(Fred... I'm carrying you !:?)

liljoe*blowinhotair*amat

Without crediblity-you can't carry anyone!

smallciytmc , jcaz, and others,

Thanks for what you do/did for our country.

A great topic would be for everyone to post former SGV Athletes that have served or are serving our country

HLP News!!- President and Midget Coaching staff caught cheating, all have bein suspended. Poetic justice.

Suwoop,
i welling to bet you grew up wanting to be a Stang.Suwoop ....how funny! you dont know anything about that lil boy. You guys play thursday night you should come see them stangs play friday at the rose bowl..... And i want to hear you Suwoop then! Hopefully you guys win your own league!!!!

TopDogCrowned,

Suwoop, hunh? Okay...that's nice.

Listen, there is one more week in the regular season. Next week the REAL season begins. I've read your posts and seen your references to "ponies" this and "first round" that and....blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. All I've said in return was "I can't WAIT for the playoffs!" But next week bro, immediately following our last game in the Rose Bowl, the gloves are FLYING OFF once again.....

Steve what's it like to have some Drunk and Mean guy in your corner?

Steve I see your point however, the Valle Vista league was in a division in which they could and did compete with.... I mean Northview had La Habra "on the ropes." Right? Montview league 2nd place Gladstone that same season 02' lost to CRESPI 14-0 (yes that CRESPI) the same one that played in the D-1 finals last year. How do you explain that match up as competitive......

Carlos,
If you are going to rip me for my appearance, do it with some facts. Those who know me know that I'm not partial to Mexican food, and I hate both burritos and Del Taco, in particular.
I just happen to have certain pet peeves, which were drilled into me as a young journalism student at Cal State Fullerton. Those range from 'move the chains' to 'defending champion' to 'Lady...' to 'according to...'

DX,

La Puente in 2002 was good, just not that good. They weren't better than Northview, which lost to D-VII finalist Walnut, D-IX semifinalist Pomona and D-IX champ La Habra. La Habra that year went 13-1 and its only loss was to D-I champ Los Alamitos, 24-20. Northview had La Habra on the ropes in the second round, before losing 25-24 in 3OT.
I covered both teams on more than one occasion that season, and Northview was better. La Puente had the better passing game, but Northview had one of the better running attacks in the area that season.

Hey Steve,
I was wondering if it was a pet peeve of yours when you order a macho burrito at del taco and they don't put extra sauce in it?

drunk and mean, since when do the homies in county lock up get internet access? in the context of football, when 2 people hold the sticks, it's correct to call them chains, just like the ones that bind you in yale or court, ese!

Not to mention all the D1 players from what was then DX. Lawrence Jackson, Chauncey Washington and Desmond Reed to name a few. That LP team from 2002 was outstanding- They would have won the Valle Vista that year. Saw them play - twice. Another one was the Temple City Team from 2001.

Werd up this is to you. Name the teams that you think Azusa will get in the first round? Then tell me some logical resons why them would beat them? If your reasons are valid then I will respectfully say you are right, and they cant be reasons like "They are just better" or "They are bigger" cause those are just not very good reasons.

Stang fan
You should pray you dont draw the Huskies in the first round, they will snack up the ponies. Call me arrogant, but the East Side Uglies will give you no pity in HUSKY CITY!! Suwoop!

whitey,

actually you're wrong and Steve's right. By your logic they should be moving the "links" instead of the "chains" seeing as Steve correctly pointed out ....there IS only 1 "chain" and many "links".

Whitey you really need to see someone about your nitpicking insecurity and obsession with being a sportwriter.

Much like your playing days.....they are overstated and bordering on delusional.

Steve I love your imput. Whitey is like all old farts. "They" could do it better..."They" could teach you a thing or two..."They" has been there and done that....yet NO ONE EVER KNOWS A DAMN THING ABOUT THEM. hence the insecurity and need to show others "UP".

Why is that Steve? Maybe with the struggling economy we will see more home drinking going on and more drunk angry "observations" that normally other bar mates would just shrug off or listen to with hopes of a "kick me down for listening to you for the last half hour" beer..

Drink up whitey...I'm listening. Sound familiar? And I'll keep a tab running for you....lol

Don't ever let them get to you. A degree and the will to follow your passion earns my respect Steve. Keep up the good work!

attn SRamirez, the measuring device in football is known as the chains is called that because it is made up of a bunch of links, attached to 2(count them sticks) hence the adjective "chains" now if you want to get picky, ok.........just learn the game and its nuances..............in othe words, buy a dog and name him clue, because you don't have a clue, right now! rookie

A Tale of 3 Schools and Economics

La Puente, LA, and Wilson have a combined 1-26 record - all are part of the HLPUSD school district

the school district has lost over 500 students since last year - which is an automatic decrease in talent base, a loss of teachers and a loss of money

the most immediate impact for struggling programs is a change in coaching staffs - but there is a lack of money for quality and established coaches -

it is a catch-22 scenario

Trojan Man. i just checked midvalley.. and it is:
1. ROSEMEAD

2. NORTHVIEW

3. SAN DIMAS

4. MONROVIA

5. AZUSA

I had the opportunity to see the Valley Vista, Mission Valley and Montview Leagues. I truly believe that the 3rd Place team from Valley Vista and Mission Valley League would beat Azusa. The Aztecs are strong for teh Montview but you cant argue that the Montview League is the worst league in the San Gabriel Valley.
Finally I give props to all those guys that go out and write everynight for the Tribune. Fred you got some good people who take the time to write good articles.

Spreading the Wealth,

Actually, the moment Glendora took the field for a Sierra League game, the Tartans were defending their Sierra League title. Look at this way, one you have something, and you are trying to keep someone from taking it, you are defending it. That term is one of my pet peeves in sports, ranking up there with the old 'move the chains,' because the last time I checked there is only one chain!

MID VALLEY RANKINGS

1. ROSEMEAD
2. San Dimas
3. Northview
4.AZUSA ?

Aztec Pride,
You posted that you "won Workman Friday night". In sports you don't "win" somebody, you "beat" someone. When you "win" something, you take it home for a souvenir and I doubt the Azusa coaches took Workman home and placed the school on their fireplace mantle.

Have another cold one Bud.

Good luck Azusa and I hope you "BEAT" Bassett.

south hills vs muir in the 1st round! that will be a championship type game ! i think the southest championship will be Muir , co , or DR!

What's going at La Puente High School? Baseball-Football coaches fired. Didn't they do a great job last Season.

Ayala's 18-17 win over undefeated Chino Hills gives Glendora a chance to defend its title. If Glendora (6-3, 3-1) beats Ayala (8-1, 4-0), they finish in a two or three-way tie.

I don't believe that's called defending it's title, I believe that's what you call Sharing It!

Joe Amat

Loser.

Actually - he was approved last wednesday. Good effort though !:?)

Breaking News, kind of
(Fred... I'm carrying you !:?)

Cezar Guerrero, transfer basketball player from Workman, has had his eligibility appeal to the State approved. Looks like he will be competing for the Lobos this season.

People out there may be haters and complainers, but this was the system at work... exactly the way it was supposed to work.

BREAKING NEWS: WORKMANS STANDOUT BASKETBALL TRANSFER CEASAR GUERERRO DECLARED ELIGABLE BY CIF FRIDAY AFTERNOON...THIS SHOULD BE A FUN SEASON FOR WORKMAN BASKETBALL AND FANS

I did go to church today and i prayed that azusa would lose in the first round so we can talk about real schools. werd up.

Fred mention the montview league with a positive comment, HA,,,,that'll be the day doesn't everyone remember one of his first articles this year. Let me see,,,,,,He was crying about the valle vista league (SAN DIMAS) having to play the mighty teams from the Pioneer League (Torrance, El segundo, No & So. Torrence Etc.) the Ocean League (Inglewood, Culver City, Santa Monica Etc.)and THE LOS PADRES LEAGUE repeat LOS PADRES LEAGUE (Santa Maria St. Josephs,Morro Bay,Lompoc,Santa Ynez, Etc) the last couple of years probably lost on maybe a title or two because of the distance they traveled But to be HONEST he should have said the talent was far better than that of the Valle Vista (no disrespect intended). What failed to mention and failed to write about for years was the fact the Montview League played those league year after year from 1998-2006 and how do you think they faired if those teams were to good for the valle vista.

I'll tell you who would've loved the way the division is now La Puente squad of 02, Duarte 01' 07', and Gladstone 02'03'04'05'....

So go for Aztecs and the rest of the Montview League and Tu Madre to all haters............

Hey Fred,

No mention of the current Featherweight Champion of the World Steven Luevano (workman alumni) and how he was the special guest at the workman vs. azusa game. Workan is getting ready for basketball season as now cleared to play Cesar Guererro get ready to start Stomping the whole SGV. El Mago is here and if u have not seen this kid play get over to workman this fall/winter and buy yourself a ticket. Luevano will fight the end of January against Rocky Juarez probably on the undercard of Margarito vs. Mosley in vegas tune in and watch the local champ. And Aztec Pride, Azusa is garbage this is the one and only good year the JV school has or will turn out

Ok, it's the tribbin section of the "newspaper," so that means that it's time for me to post my weekly jokes. With that in mind, here is a funny blond joke to liven things up a bit.

A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting!

Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled , "PULL OVER!"

"NO!" the blonde yelled back, "IT'S A SCARF!"

AZTEC PRIDE |

Do they teach you how to add in Azusa? Or maybe just drink.

Maybe your dumb a-- coach can help you out.

Great league you compete in. LOL

No doubt the Charger, Bearcat game is a big one. Win or lose both teams play post season. Last years 28 / 14 charger win was a tight game and still is on mind of Cats. Can Cats stop Charger running attack? not liklewy. Can Charegers keep Paredez under 200 yrs? maybe. Could be a shootout. Defense will tell. Chargers Perri, Clapper, Williams will make the Cats turn the ball over, thats the difference. Chargers 28 Cats 14. Play hard , play clean, play safe.

AZUSA WHO? AND WERD UP!

Did you two go to CHURCH TODAY!

DON'T HATE! LOL..

OH YEAHHHHH! The only good thing you said was DRINK A BUD!!! How did you know that's the beer I drink!

Where did you get those numbers from -139.9? Why don't you forward those numbers to those losing COACHES IN OUR LEAGUE.

Maybe, they just MIGHT tell YOU too shove them up your A**

Aztec-ian,

Even if you "shared" the title with Duarte you would be the #1 representative because of the head-to head victory.

Congratulations!

Azusa who?

What a moronic position.

Let the school . players and fans enjoy their day in the sun.

What does it matter to you if they are enjoying their success?

Is your life so void of accomplishment that you have to tear down others success?

You are a coward sir.

at least you can say you accomplished that in spades!

Hey Fred,

Are you saying we have the Montview TITLE already? Okay I know we won Workman Friday night, but there is still one game left. This is against Bassett, this Friday.

AZUSA is the only team with no losses in the league.

You never know now, and we still could lose on Friday? and we would share the TITLE with DUARTE, or am I wrong FRED?

AZTEC PRIDE!

AZTEC PRIDE

Now you play in the league that you're suppose to, but lets get serious.

-139.9 ranking of combined teams? Have another Bud..

azusa spanked in the first round. werd up

Aztec, this was a thread for title games this week, Azusa got the Montview No. 1. I didn't mention the Valle Vista either, that was decided last week.

Hey FRED!

I know were the step- child of all the leagues!

But it would have been nice too say something about the MONTVIEW LEAGUE???

I know you have a tee time today, but it wouldn't have taken a few more minutes of your time to say something!

AZUSA will do something it hasn't done in TEN YEARS. WERE GOING TO DO MORE THEN CLAIM A TITLE!!! OH YEAH...

AZTEC PRIDE!!!

Fred,

Those coin flips are brutal. Nothing worse than the fiasco of Miramonte debacle of '06. How would you like to be the first place team that has to face South Hills in the first round?

In our case that 3-way tie for second is scary because the coin flip leaves someone out of contention all together. So it may not even come to " have (we) already done enough to secure a Pac-5 berth?" Whoever ends up the odd man out over a coin flip stays home - even if they have a better record, more impressive resume, or head to head wins.

The coin trumps all and I think the CIF can't, by rule, pick a wild-card entry over someone who finished ahead of them in the league standings. That's why in '05 a 5-5 Santa Margarita team got the wild card over a 6-4 Amat team that had the more impressive resume.
