Keeping up with Cross Country - CIF next

| | Comments (3) |

Once again, a local coach has stepped up and offered to help give insight to what's going on in cross country. This comes from Glendora assistant coach Bob Ramsey

All of the SGV leagues held their league finals last week. For most athletes, it was the culmination of their season, but for some, they qualified to extend their schedule at least one more week at Saturday's CIF Divisional Prelims, held at Mt. Sac. Here are the results from the leagues that submitted their results here and/or to DyeStatCal.com.

For all the results and Saturday's CIF schedule, click thread

Del Rey/Tuesday: The rain forced Bishop Amat's league to move their meet to the flat 5k course at Santa Fe Dam. The Lancer girls ran away with the league title, led by Iliana Velazquez' 19:12 third place, with all five scoring runners in the top ten. Peter Careaga led the boys with a 16:29 tenth place finish.

Sierra/Wednesday: The Glendora boys won the title in a 26-29 thriller over Ayala at Mt. Sac, with the two teams taking the top ten spots. The Tartans were led by a tight 2-3-4 finish from Christopher Ramsey (16:00), Anthony Castro and Austin Goodheart (both 16:01). St. Lucy's, led by Marissa Horton's sixth place 19:09, finished second among the girls, defeating Ayala on the better sixth runner. Glendora's Lauren Justus was second in a SGV season leading time of 18:38.

Montview/Thursday: The Azusa girls, followed by Bassett and Sierra Vista, took the league title on the tough 3 mile course at Schabarum Park. Sierra Vista took the boys honors, followed by Azusa and La Puente.

San Antonio/Thursday: On the 3 mile course at Bonelli Park, Liz Zuniga (18:41) led her South Hills teammates to the league championship. She and the Huskies were followed by Rowland, led by Priscilla Llanos' 18:49 second, and in third were Jessica Mendez (18:59) and West Covina. The boys champ was Rowland's Jonathan Taylor, who came home in 16:09. He was followed by Michael Ramos (16:16) of team champs South Hills. Mario Caballero (16:28) of second placed West Covina was third, and Walnut was third in the team race.

Valle Vista/Thursday: Also at Bonelli, the Ganesha boys, led by individual champ Elijah Durian (15:56), finally broke cleanly away from Baldwin Park and Jesus Corral (16:02) to win the league title. Northview was third. On the girls side, teammates Marleny Cifuentes (19:39) and Michelle Spolar (19:40) led Covina to an clear team victory, followed by Baldwin Park and San Dimas.
