I just want to say to the Amat fans, I don't think you guys have anything to be ashamed of.

And all the other SGV programs ragging on Amat for losing would've been crushed by Loyola. Amat at least kept it close.

Your team put up a good fight and your defense was tough and physical.

For what it's worth, I think Amat has a decent shot against Crespi. IMO Crespi is a little overrated this year and rely a lot on the big play. I'd like to see Amat win that game.

while i agree that all the young men you mentioned are really good football players, i wonder how they could be effective if the o-line is overpowered? also, would they be effective offensively if they haven't been practicing on that side of the ball all year. i think #20 got into the game at cornerback a couple games ago. while he's a great athlete, he was exposed for a touchdown. i suspect that he practices with the offensive unit 99.9% of the time and therefore needs more than a couple reps during one week of practice to help the team in that position. i wonder, too, if hagerty would change course right now after being so successful with the way he's done things this year. interesting to say the least. would that be desperate or the right thing to do? i certainly don't know.

Well rock I see a little rain brought you out from that rock you've been hiding ubder. You've been gone now about 5-6 weeks . We lost and now you come out . How typical of someone of your backround. Yes we did lose and maybe they are not quite as bleak as jcaz makes things out to be. Our defense did play well enough to win but our offense was not up to the task. I had mention if we came out as we did against Charminade it would be a long night and it waS. I agree with 7deuce that we really haven't been on our game the last couple of weeks on offense and like he said we finally played someone who took advantage of the fact.Plus the turnovers didn't help either. No excuses here we just plain lost. Let see if the Lancers can get the spark back in the offense and take it to Crespi.

Somebody below asked for excuse. The good thing about making no predictions is you don't have to make any excuses.

Not once have I ever predicted a victory. Especially facing any of the Serra League opponents. In fact, the closest thing to a prediction was when I said,

"Barrs been involved in half the offensive plays from scrimmage for the Cubs - he better be ready to go. I'm looking forward to seeing how much better (faster?) he's gotten over the year.

But, I'd also watch out for Ackerman over the middle.

Really, nothing at all has changed in my eyes. To quote Denny Green, "They are who we thought they were!"

No one very close to the program has predicted anything. Facts show that we are somewhere between the best in our area and on our way to being able to compete with the best in our league. That's a big gap. But were on our way. A loss to a Loyola team that took the #9 team in the State, De La Salle, down to the wire - is nothing to change that thinking. Loyola did a nice job stopping the run and we came out on the wrong end of the turnover game that has helped in the past. A couple of big interceptions turned the tides a bit for the Cubs. Error free football is important at this level. Or as close as you can. Someone said the game was boring, but only if you look at in a "Big 10 kind of way. Most Amat/Loyola games are grind it out, low-scoring battles taht end 3-0, 10-7, 17-6 or something like that. And if you listen to the Tribs Anthony Barr interview, and look at the look on his face when he says that Amat has the best defense they've faced. That looked sincere to me.

So contrary to most, I look far beyond the scoreboards final results. Seven or eight months ago I said that Hags would have the team at 5-5 and 6-4 would be great. I said 7-3 and the playoffs and he should be offered a lifetime contract. So for those that got ahead of themselves with some early season success is just that, getting ahead of yourself. THose that are close have said just that.

We aren't there yet... but we're on our way. And the other thing that I came close to predicting is that IMO, whatever team is 1-2 in the Serra is going to the playoffs. we'll see who that is in the next couple weeks.

First off let me clear one thing up. That post from earlier today was NOT me. Someone has no life and has decided to post my name. I am pretty sure that post was brokeback donkey as we all know he has no life.

Because I am Swiss, and because I am neutral, I will make an observation or two.

1. King Stud has run out of ideas regarding FC, so now he has Randy in his cross hairs.
2. Yes, Verti did beat Loyloa twice. Let's bring him back because obviously he knows how to win.
3. Charter Oak should be number one baised on the BSC rankings and because Steve said so.
4. I did see a couple of fat guys hanging arround the concessions stands that looked a whole lot like the guru and his gang of 4, but for some reason, they were'nt chinese.
5. I think I smelled alcohol in the stands last night, but I thought I was at a high school game, and not at a titty bar (can I say that in here??).
6. first rule of bloging and that is to never tell the others that you were once a drunk.
7. Second rule of blogging, never tell people like me that you were once a tight end.
8. Never throw little children under the bus (IE jcaz) because thier parents will kick you're but, slash you're tires and send hate mail to Fred and to Cardinal Mahony, if they find out you're not a true catholic.

After re-reading my post, I can see where a comment like that can read a whole lot differnet than where it was suppose to go.

All I was trying to say was that, it was a crucial moment in the game, and regardless of who was involved in that play, a compleated pass right there would have been big.

The loss was'nt one player fault, it was a team effort win or lose right ?

Check it out...everyone's talking all this about how good DR is or how good they could be or how hard there schedule is...let me put it to you this way...DR has alot of talented student atheletes on the team. I believe from the bottom of my heart that the coaches, the coaching changes and the calls they've made through out the season has caused this team to perform the way they have! They haven't taught this team any discipline, they let the team talk to them anyway they want without any consequences. So the atheletes feel they can do and say whatever they want. This causes a team to not operate efficiently and they don't give a 100% and they lose games. I believe if you get some coaches in there that demand and teach there students respect and to work as a team then they can win some games! They can barely make it into the playoffs but with the lack of discipline, they wont go to far. Hopefully things change next year! On another note...3 coaches from Chino Hills are added to the team this year and now Chino Hills is undefeated...maybe another issue at DR.

I guess Amat fans can now concentrate on their only two sports where they are actually good: Girls Basketball and Baseball. Hagerty is a farce. Even Verti beat Loyola every year.

King Stud you have no class. But does that surprise any of us on this side of the fight? No. We already know how ghetto Diamond Ranch really is. We just settle this on the field of play. EVERYTIME.

Actually, as a 3rd place team, wouldn't DR face a 1st place team from another league like SH, Sante Fe, Schurr, or even Muir (again!)? While they can compete with these teams their offense will make it a VERY difficult task.

Btw, speaking of 3rd place teams other schools don't want to face.....Burroughs is a team to watch out for. With their STRONG run game and decent defense they can really control the clock and put up a decent amount of points. I still don't know how they let CV beat them.

And do me a favor. STOP mentioning Arcadia! The truth is that they might not even make the playoffs this year. Their guaranteed a spot only if they beat both Burbank AND CV the next two games, and after their last two games when they were outscored 110-9 I just don't see that happening. If not they are in a 3-way tie with Glendale and Burbank and a coin-flip will likely decide the first-round a$$-whoopin' of the "lucky" winner.

Why are we talking about Div 7 schools "possibly" making playoff runs instead of focusing on the Amat's delicate position they have put themselves in? After watching Amat play subpar games against DR and Chaminade, which I believed they should have blown out, I saw way too many weaknesses that would be eventually exploited by the big boys.

The big win by the cubs last night only confirmed my worse suspicion. It will be a long 2 weeks ahead, because Crespi is hungry for it's first serra league win and Notre Dame is simply unstoppable!

Oh and CO you are the Tribs number 1 team based on Freds criteria, but with a caveat that you play cupcakes.

It's all game of psychology. DRanch will make the playoffs with a 3-7 overall record, and be the team nobody wants to face. The Panthers will play with nothing to lose, which will be refreshing for their players. Let's say they get the third place team from the Pacific, Crescenta Valley, maybe Arcadia? DRanch will get to at least the quarterfinals, then anything can happen.

The CO varsity team has now won 3 big games in a row over DR, they executed, you didn't. In fact, has DR ever beaten CO? You didn't give up 50 points, but dont tell me they were control of that game, and when DR needed to stop them in 4th qtr, CO just smashed it down thier throats....i was there, your not gonna tell me different. After that last TD, it was clearly visible as to the level of distraught in the DR's teams eyes...perhaps imploding was to big of a word, i'll concede that, but don't tell me they were in control of that game at any point....cuz i no better.......i am friggin shocked at DR's record to this point. I thought they would have 5 wins by now, come in second in league, and possibly make it to the semi's. This division you are in now is lighter without the OC teams. Your better than that on paper. You should be balling in an I.E. league with the talent base you can draw from. But things dont always work out like we wish. Those kids get out there and if they dont have those heads screwed on tightly, it doesn't matter how "gifted individually" they may be. One bad taste of adversity after another and sometimes they snap. How else do you explain your record with all these studs, and a bitchen coach? i would have to disagree with your comment that loyola had more skilled athletes last night. i would offer that the game was won in the trenches as loyola's d-line dominated amat's o-line. in fact, loyola's entire defense played one heck of a game and took it to amat's offense. i, for the first time this season, thought amat didn't have an answer. that's a credit to loyola. lastly, amat hasn't really played well in a few weeks. they met a team that was good enough to capitalize when amat didn't play well. sometimes losses like this have a way of refocusing a team. next week should be interesting.

Its not about hating Amat. After watching the game last night, its pretty obvious Anat may be back in the SGV, but certainly not in the league you guys play in.

The differnece to me is, you have enough athletes to compete in the SGV, but its clear the CUBS just had more skilled sthletes on the field last night.

Your defense gets alot of credit but the offense of Amat is very questionable at any level of play. Do you really think some of your offensive players are top level? They would be good talents on some of the teams in the top ten in the SGV.

Its also pretty apparent that RIX better get busy teaching and developing or its going to be a long season for Amat.

You guys can stroke yourself all you want in the SGV, but you dont make the playoffs in those divisions do you? I guess CIF makes you play where your placed, but until the coaches really bring back Amat, you'll be watching CO on Thanksgiving and maybe others too in the SGV.

I think that if you are using the Amat faithfull as a reference for you're comments, ya got to keep this in mind.

It is almost always those same crazy fans, that will invariably start that silly argument.

Believe me when I tell yo that the Amat folks don't begin the fight.

Yes, it is true that we dont have to respond to the attacks, but the facts are that, when you get called out on the carpet, what should you say or do ?

Should you be the bigger person and ignor the snipping little Chihuahuas, or should you take them out back by the tool shed and and rack em up a few with a wooden stick that has a few splinters in it ?

The only team that we Imploded on this year was Oaks Christian. Every other opponent we played this year we were in the game and might have been a different outcome if not for all the penalties.Who ever we play in the playoffs I'm sure they'll have their hands full with us. WE are DRRRRRRRRR

That's a great post. I'm not a hater on Amat, I just can't take the fans that try to call out the schools with less talent.

Where did i coach? No where. My son doesn't start at DBHS but he lays it all out there everyday.... i couldnt be any prouder. I'm just a casual fan who had a slight a gambling problem once, and so maybe i look alittle deeper or from another angle on things. High school football can't be beat, as far as pure entertainment value. Why am i up at 2am? I'm a fireman, we're getting hammered here at work tonight, and i'd rather read misc, mindless, meaningless blasts on this blog rather than try and go back to sleep knowing i'm gonna get up again in a few min for someone elses drama tonight :)

Notes on Amat.

Yes the haters are having a good time now I suppose. That was to be expected I guess, but I for one though that if we were to lose a Sierra game, that it would have been one of the upcoming two, rather than the one last night.

As for the game itself, the Lancers were soundly beaten tonight, make no mistake about it.

Loyola should have racked up at least 10-17 more points than what was showing on the score board, at the end of the first half.

If it wasn’t for the special teams play, Amat would have been out of it, real early this evening. A fabulous blocked field goal attempt and another blocked punt by Jessie Prieto later, helped us to say in what appeared to be a close game (on the score board anyway).

To tell you the truth, and in my opinion, the game was lost early and it was lost in the trenches. Loyola's lines, both offensively and defensively were overwhelming against the Lancers. They completely took it to Amat tonight and they totally shut us down.

I have to say that, it was the worst over all offensive performance to date, by the blue and gold, and it could not have come at a worse time.

Anthony Barr ran wild and furious, and got some big plays because of that offensive line of his. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Gaise, because whenever he got the ball, the Cubs just stacked him up. Case in point. At the end of the first half, Barr had over 100 yards while Gasie had somewhere in the neighborhood of 30. Big mismatch there.

For what it’s worth, if you were to say that there was a "big moment" in the game, where the outcome was still in doubt, and where perhaps the game could have gone either way, then I would have to say it was that third down attempt, where the ball was thrown to Lenhart and just basically bounced off of his hands.

That play was huge, let me tell you, because if he hangs onto the ball, we maybe end up sustaining that drive and quite possibly scoring a big touchdown that really changes the dynamics of the game.

As it was, we ended up with nothing, and the rest of the night was mostly spent on our side of the field.

In fact, if I am not mistaken, the first time that Amat got into Loyola’s side of the 50, was on the defensive end towards the middle of the game. Unbelievable.

As funny as this may sound, the defense really stood up tonight. They came up with one big play after another. They held the Cubs in check for most of the game, but it became unrealistic to believe that they were going to be able to stop them all night long. They needed help on the offensive end and it never came.

Loyola, seemed to always find a way to either convert on 3rd down, or to stop us on our 4th down conversion attempts. It was very frustrating. You know, they must have seen allot of film on us because you could tell that they knew what was coming. We didn’t fool them on anything tonight and we didn’t overwhelm them on either side of the ball..

Of course now we are faced with some real tough consequences because of this defeat, because we really needed to win that game last night if we had a fair chance to make the playoffs this year. The schedule doesn’t get easy now.

Crespi is up next, and believe me, because of the fact they just got hammered by Notre Dame yesterday, they are going to pull out all the stops to beat us on Friday night.

Who would have believed at this point of the season that Loyola and Notre Dame would be in the driver’s seat.

You know, next weeks loser is probably out of it, unless something weird happens to the winner of the Loyola Notre Dame game next Friday.

Make no mistake about it folks, it’s do or die time for the Lancers. We have to have that win against the Celts next week or we are going to be reading allot about Charter Oak’s number one ranking all winter long. As it is now, the haters are out in full force and they are loving it.

randy you seem to talk a lot about football and the in's and out's of the game. did you coach some where. you seem to go to a lot of high school football games and I think you said you knew the official who made the dr bad call. were you once an official? we know your son starts for diamond bar but did you play for their once powerhouse teams as well?

I know the anti-amat bloggers are going to come out fellas. Even during the glory days, Amat has had the so called "haters." But that's what happens when you wear the "A" on your helmet. I played on the 98' team that lost to Loyola 3-0 and I remember the tears like it was yesterday. Don't let the hater get you down. Play hard every game and enjoy every minute through battle..win or lose. For the first time in almost 10 years I have been excited to see what is going on with Amat football. You all brought that Amat fire back into me and I want to thank you. I am proud of everything you all have accomplished this year. It ain't over yet....

Bishop should stay no. 1, they clearly are one of the best teams in the SGV. They can beat CO hands down. I mean even players from CO want to transfer to Bishop for exposure...

i dunno sgv, i've seen DR implode against stiff competition......i believe the game was 9-7 at half between CO-DR, but i dont recall them ever having sustained momentum with the chance to rip CO's heart out,...like they may very well have done to Amat if that call isn't made......on the flip side, i am sick of hearing about "that P-I call"...good/strong/steady "battle hardened" teams rally and overcome that sh*t.....DR folds everytime they get dealt that hand,the record shows....CO beat DR more convincingly than Amat did,and then theres the Rancho/Los Osos comparison scoring......it really doesnt mean jack, but how long are you gonna hold Amat on this pedestal? I will say that the game of the year would have been CO-Amat......that wooda been a classic....

I saw DR play CO and I believe that was a toss up. DR shot themselves in the foot twice and pretty much gave CO two scores. And if ref doesn't make bad call at BA game then maybe DR comes away with a victory.(CIF sends a letter to DR apologizing for bad call).I think a game between CO and BA would be a 10-10 tie and I believe right now CO and BA should be Tied for #1 spot. It's that close.

Rokus completes a big pass to the Lancers' 32, but Brent Seals laid a hard hit as Rokus delivered the pass. Rokus is down in a lot of pain at midfield. It looks like they're going to sophmore Brett Nelson. Rokus walks off, looks more shaken up than anything.

Barr broke a short one, moving to Lancers' 37 yardline as the time expires in the third quarter. Amat had only three offensive plays in the third, but remains in the game. Fortunately.

The struggles continue on offense, but the Lancers have a decision, it's 4th and 2 at the 32, and they're going for it. But Gaisie is stopped a yard short, 1:13 left in quarter. They haven't been able to consistently move the chains on any drives.

Amat's Davis Cazares comes up with big hit behind line of scrimmage to stop Barr, Loyola punting again after getting nowhere. This is amazing, Loyola's punter hits his knee on the ground before punt, Lancers get ball on Cubs' 40 with 2:28 left in quarter. These breaks, man.

This is great, I hear a Loyola offensive coach say we have to go right after them.

The Lancers' stop Barr, looks like a 4th and 2 on their own 47 and they're going to punt. Wait, Amat encroached, first down Lohyola at Amat 47. Lancers haven't had the ball on offense all quarter, 4:32 left.

I can hear the Loyola coaches in the booth next to me panicking. Barr gets another big run but the Cubs keep killing themselves with holding penalties. It's 1st and 20 and their own 30 with 6:40 left in the third.

The Lancers needed a stop on 3rd and 5 at the 50 and got it when Rokus' first-down pass was dropped. The Cubs' punt is BLOCKED by Jesse Prieto, who picks it up and returns it 21-yards untouched for a TOUCHDOWN. However, the Lancers decide to go for two (don't know why) and Gaisie is stopped, 14-6, 4:49 left. Can someone explain the logic? Let's see if this point comes back to haunt them.

Loyola's Barr is handful, he carried 14 times for 116 yards in the first half. Just checked the Lakers' score, 79-79 10 minutes left in fourth.

McClanahan has been sacked four times in the first half, and Loyola has good field position again, at Lancers 48 with 2:16 left.

The Lancers continue to struggle offensively, McClanahan sacked in series after touchdown. The Lancers have to punt at their own 18 with 2:25 left. It's their third three-and-out of the half.

34 minutes before kickoff, the air is humid, light showers are expected throughout the evening.

Just arrived at Moyse Stadium at Glendale High School and the connection is good. For now. BTW, Loyola's JV team is winning 28-0 with 6:37 left in the game. I hate this press box, there are windows in front of me.

As for the visitors side, there is a nice set up for concessions, however, in allot of prep footall venues, there is'nt allways coffee for sale.

So maybe not to bad of an idea to brng something warm, including something to sit on that won get to soggy right ?

Fred, maybe you'll get lucky tonight as far as parking goes because on the visitiors side, there is a side street called "west campus" that can access that side of the stadium.

If you want, you folks can use google maps and get a good look at the layout of the stadium by using the satillite feature or if you want, you can use the "street view" program which actually lets you look at it from a vantage point of the actual street.

Heck Fred, you might even be able to blog from inside of you're car if you play you're cards right. Ha ha ha.

If you don't get there at least 1.5 houra before kickoffs be prepared to spend 30 minutes finding street parking another 10 minutes walking to the field and then you get to watch the game in the rain standing up.

Oh bring umbrellas and lots of hot coco and coffee.

Fred, saw the Loyola/De La Salle game earlier this season at GHS. There appeared to be a press box.

It's been so long since I've been there, someone tell me they've got a press box. Rain minus shelter will make it tough to blog this.

If you are going to go to the game, consider getting there a bit early tonight.

Last time I go there a little late, and could'nt get parking.

This year, I am sure it will be the same thing considering that the JV game is also being played tonight (right before the varsity game) and because of the high interest in this game from a whole lot of folks.

Glendale High should be rather full tonight.

Also, it is starting to rain, so take that into consideration when driving this evening.
