Northview-Paraclete

The CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division football quarterfinals are filled with area teams with the exception of Paraclete, the big unknown from Lancaster that plays Northview on Saturday at Covina District Field. The Spirits (8-3) advanced to the Mid-Valley Division semifinals last year, return nine starters on offense, and have won eight consecutive since starting 0-3. Running back Brandon Buteyn averages 160 yards for an offense that generates 271 yards on the ground, which is a genuine concern for Northview coach Jim Arellanes. "Unfortunately we have to be the team that finds out what they're all about," Arellanes said. "Before we went up to Morro Bay (in the first round of the playoffs) last year we watched them on film and thought that we could compete. But it was a whole different story once we got there. Their size and athleticism was scary.
"That's what is concerning about Paraclete. We had a chance to watch them against (Cerritos Valley Christian) and came away feeling they're as talented as anyone in our division." Paraclete knocked off San Marino 42-14 in the first round, and Northview hammered Workman, 43-6. The Vikings are playing on Saturday after losing a coin flip with South Hills, which will play at Covina District Field on Friday against Diamond Ranch in a Southeast Division quarterfinal. "The good thing is if we win, we'll play next Saturday too, so it doesn't mess up the practice preparation," Arellanes said. "Hopefully with the lone game on Saturday we get a lot of people out to support us. Plus we have the extra day after Thanksgiving to let our food digest."

Did Amat's Coach Haggerty build Paraclete into a consistent CIF Champ a few years ago? Tradition like that (along with physical linemen) presents a difficult challenge.
afan,
I haven't changed my mind. I still think Paraclete will win... but I really want to see Northview pull it out. They've played with so much heart this season and watching their reaction when them beat San Dimas for the league championship was one of those priceless moments in prep football... talk about excitement! They (NV) will have to play a great game against Paraclete. Paraclete is a team that runs the heck out of the ball. The hit hard, they're pretty big and fast, so NV needs to really show up! I hope the Vikings pull it out... it would be great to see two local teams in the championship game in a few weeks.
N.V. Vikings, you guys need to step up. You will have the momentum going into this game with the Home Team advantage. The whole SGV will be rooting for you just like last year at the Baldwin Park game.
We can't wait to face you guys again, becuase that's winners do, fight until they succeed.
Good Luck Saturday Night, we will be the first to say congrats!!
Just Wondering: i have always looked forward to reading your blogs and predictions. Why have you changed your mind about the NV vs PARACLETE game
I've picked Paraclete on an earlier blog... but I'm certain Northview can win the game... but don't be fooled by Paraclete's record or the fact they've won close games with "lesser" teams... Northview must play their buts off if they expect to win. I'm a big fan of the teams in the Valle Vista so I'm pulling for NV... don't let this one get away. Everyone in the SGV would love to see two local teams (i.e. San Dimas, Azusa, Temple City, Northview, etc...) meet up in the CIF championship game. Good Luck Vikings!
Good Luck to Northview! Lets try and make CDF 2-0 between the CVUSD teams! Good luck and play your hearts out.
GO HUSKIES!!!
Vikings, and Jim
Good luck Coach to you and your team. You played in BIG GAMES especially the ones against WHITTIER HIGH so you know how to prepare your team, look forward to seeing you make the Finals.

OK I get it now...the quote should be Paraclete knocked off San Marino.
Attention Coach Arellanes...Temple City is the team that BEAT formerly undefeated San Marino...who came to our house 8-0, and left 8-1.
Yeah, you know, us westside guys are all the same anyway.
Fred
Temple City has not played Paraclete this year or last, not sure where the quote above comes from.
Paraclete played Monrovia last year in Round 2 and beat M-town in a close one.
You know, we might be rivals in basball, but now, we are all "brothers" of the SGV this week.
Good luck, and go Vikings !
