What's next for Gilmore?
Tim Gilmore's high school career will end on Thursday against rival Los Altos, where the Wildcats will likely finish 0-10, with Gilmore wandering into the unknown. This was the kid that everyone talked about as a sophomore, and who nearly took our player of the year award after his junior season, rushing for 1,978 yards and 22 touchdowns, and leading the Wildcats to the second round of the divisional playoffs. I give him credit for staying at Wilson with a new coach and new offensive philosophy, but it was obvious he struggled and they struggled. I'll wonder what he could have done for South Hills? Could he have changed things by going to Los Altos? Would he have been a difference-maker at Bishop Amat? Selfishly, we can ask can't we? We'll never know for sure, but good luck to him and wherever he winds up next, most likely a community college. I know we'll all be curious what he does at the next level with talent surrounding him. Is this the end, or just the beginning? We'll just have to wait and find out.

Whos to blame, Parents, Coach, Staff, and District..
Look at the 48H form . If he was at Los Altos, his grades would be good.
I've been to a couple of the LA practices. I dont see alot of technique work. All i saw was them going over plays and routes, as a team, i'd say they spend no more than 15 minutes working on individual technique(like breaking tackles, hitting, catching balls, throwing balls, etc). That's why they have no play makers. Because no one knows how to make a play.

"We're LA and we don't need to cater any spoiled brats feelings..."
You need a change of mindset.
"We're LA" - Doesn't mean anything anymore.
We've been exposed like the "king who has no clothes". Everyone walks around campus like there's no problem that can't be fixed. Meanwhile there's absolutely no sense of LA tradition, history, and pride to be found on campus. A gym painted with the years of past accomplishments mean(s) nothing to the new XBox generation. They couldn't care less about the Hertels, Hills, Bentons, and Smiths that LA's program is founded on.
It's not he spoiled brats that are leaving. It's the kids that feel neglected due to the lack of adequate coaching at all levels, that are leaving. The players understand the pecking order of talent, and physical ability, in regards to a starting position, or playing time, but when that structure is corrupted by coaching bias, the player's trust in the program is lost. And, who wants to butt heads with the program for four years?
Denny Crane
Denny Crane,
Well if that transfer rumor is true, then those kids are misguided and going for the quick fix. Not clear headed if you ask me, and those kids wouldn't be true blue anyway, so good riddance and don't let the door hit your @** on the way out!
We're LA and we don't need to cater any spoiled brats feelings...
We need DeSpain connected to the program again in some way, shape, or form...
Gano did as much damage as he did good. The damage is just now unraveling. That is just my honest opinion.
Los Altos 2008 Season Observations;
Attended half the games and must admit...they weren't as bad as record (1-9) indicates.
2008 BRIGHT SPOTS:
1. Came within *ONE PLAY* of beating San Dimas, Northview & Ayala. Teams with combined record 25-5.
2. Team looked well coached and was usually competitive, considering they didn't have a true GAME BREAKER such as; Gilmore, Muema, Barbone etc...
3. Will return -hopefully- numerous players at key positions in 09; QB, RB, receivers & LB.
2008 DULL SPOTS:
1. Once again -as in 2007- no consistency at QB, although last couple games I think we found our QB for 09.
2. Too many silly offensive turnovers...extended the game and exhausted our Defense.
3. Too many blocked field goals in close games...we wasted a valuable weapon.
CONCLUSION: Although 2008 was probably most grueling season at LA in past 40 years, I NEVER saw team QUIT.
With support and patience, I believe COACH AGUILAR will be successful. He's young, accustomed to winning and part of LA Tradition.
GO CONQS !!!!!!!!!
Gilmore wou;d have been a huge difference maker at any school with a really good line ... if he decides to play for a JC he will be really good .. wow the kid might not have the reggie bush moves and all that bull but he can run. and for his position that is all he needs .. GOOD LUCK TIM
Waste of talent. There is nothing worse then waste of talent.
LA clueless ...
hahaha "aguilar looks like the 'sucker'..." .. haha made me laugh.
LA Parent, LA Insider, Denny Crane,
You all made great and valid points...
btw, Jordan Gutierrez didn't want to leave LA...
and...
stop airing our dirty laundry, it's bad for the program, MYSELF included...
Denny Crane
Gano sucks at coaching the only reason he won is because of playin in a low division and having good players that worked their asses off. And aguilar looks like the sucker who got what is left over at LA .. . NOTHING
Denny Crane,
The opportunity to succeed is available for all at Los Altos...unless of course, you are an idiot like yourself! Time to go 2nd half is about to start. LA-29 Wilson-14.
Denny Crane,

What an idiot!
I am a product of the California public school system. Just like Aguilar, Gano, Godinez, and the rest of the LA clueless. Why would you expect any better. You talk like LA is something special. Get over yourself, and get a grasp on some reality.
Denny Crane
Fan,
Gilmore running a 10.22? That is amazing since Randal Carrol, 2008, state champion in the 100M ran a 10.42...Gilmore ran 10.62 at the CIF-SS Divisional Finals and did not make the state meet.
GILMORE STILL HAS TRACK!!
Did what he could with nooo line that switched every week.. And gilmore is not talking about Azusa Pacific. Just because you talk to him for 5 min doesn't mean you know the kid!! He realized early in the season his next option is track with the way the season has been going and has his mind set on working 100% for state! Gilmore not get anywher you've got to be shi**ing me! 4.33 40 & 10.22 100m (pr) for all the fools that give up on gilmore now dont talk later in 4/5 years about the Tim Gilmore who came to Hacienda Heights from mississippi and struggling family and now has SGVtribune articles just for him! Dont jump on the band waggin a couple of years from now..
Gilmore feeds off trash talk because he will soon show everyone up!!
Denny Crane,
If in fact you are an LA Alumni, Act like one and not like an idiot!
rc626
Did I ever say I had kid on the team? NO! I'm an alumni from the "back-in-days" years. Back when it meant something to play at LA. Back when we played against REAL teams. Not the likes of; San Dimas, La Serna, Northview, Ayala. OMG, what a bunch of pre-league cupcakes, AND LA still manages to lose.
Pathetic.
I blame demographics for the fall in division ranking, not the kids. But, I totally blame the administration, and coaches for not being able to maintain the program, even at the lower division levels. These idiot coaches walk around like they're the c0ck-of-the-walk. They're trying to live off of the reputation handed down by the Despain years. Bring back Dwayne as the AD for 3-4 years, and watch the heads roll...
Denny Crane
Rick,
Your kid was one of the hard working kids that as a parent you want to succeed. Then we have kids like this Zamono kid that is a spoiled brat. This kid was being walked through his classes during the summer by close family friend Vice Principle Mr. Harrington to make sure he would make the graded. One day he was ditching class and Harrington found him in Coach Aguilar’s classroom with whom else but Gano’s daughter. With all the baby sitting the kid still doesn’t make the grades. Out for six weeks, first game back the kid is starting safety and starting quarterback. Then these coaches come on this blog and talk about discipline, teaching the kids a lesson. This kid is a junior teach the junior a lesson not the seniors, this is their last game.
To Denny Crane
Are you suggesting that I was teabagged by coaches and that is why my 2 kids started? That is some funny stuff. If only your kid was half as good as any of my two.
Real LA Parent of two,
If I put my name behind my comments my son’s football career would be over. They would fine a reason not play him tonight. Our kids don’t get everything handed to them on a silver platter over at LA like the select few.
I just talked to one of my friends about this #22. He told me that #22 was the team captain the first day of practice during the summer. That was also the first day the kid had every played football. This kid’s grandfather sites on the sideline at the games with an ice chest for his grandson. When the kid comes off the field the grandfather gives him something to drink. Is this daycare or is this football. He did say the kid is an athlete, but lacks football skills.
Denny Crane,
Typical insecure response from someone hiding behind the keyboard...Stop talking sh@t about the kids before one of their dads kicks the Cr@p out of you!
LA Parent,
Stop talking Sh#t and get off your A#s and do something for the program. My kids have tons of talent and don't need athletics to succeed at the next level. Remember...Sports do not build Character..they reveal it! Instead of complaining about what was done in the past, grow some and step up to help the program instead of complaining like a little pu@@y! "What you do matters more than what you say, make sure that what you do speaks for it's self."
LA Parent
You're right on the nose with #22. The coaches see him as God's gift to the LA program, and the family has the run of the sidelines. He's got size, and potential, but the family /coach connection kinda seems like more of the same at LA.
Harmon
Well, let's see...Why do you think he's doing well at SH??? Maybe because the SH players are instructed as to how to play the game of football correctly from the freshman level, and up. Did you catch the SH vs. LA freshman game this season?? Wooooo, SH kicked LA's A$$es. LA had two first downs all game, and one of those was a pass interference call.
Ask the QB how well his O-line blocked for him in that game... Oh, wait I think he's still in a coma...
If Jordon Gutierrez was still at LA, he would be well on his way to a starting DB positiion, because LA's O-Line is woefully pathetic, and would get him killed within two games.
Real LA parent of two
If you didn't let every coach on campus teabag you, where would you're kids be?
I hope the boys do well tonight against Wilson. It looks like we should have won some of those other games earlier in the season. Its terrible to see LA not doing well after all these fun years. Good Luck Los Altos. We will see you next season at the games.
Rick,
This has been a real tuff year over at LA and then the one game you have a real chance of winning and Coach Aguilar and staff pulled off this suspended for 1 quarter maybe the whole game stunt just topped it off. The parents and players are tired and upset.
I have been to most of the freshman games and enjoy seeing the boys play. Nothing has changed at LA. All the parents are still the same. I had 2 boys graduate last year after all 4 years of playing and starting at Los Altos.
It amazes me that the parents are still complaining about the same things,,, even after new coaches are there. Whats going on over there?
Real LA parent of two,
Yea I seen parents like you, you have you head so far up the head coaches a@@, you have no clue about what is really going on, or you just don't care because your kids are being taken care of and that is all that matters. Not like me, my child is being taken care of, but I am concerned about the program. The football program isn't where it is today because of Coach Aguilar, this is due to the last four years of coaches that were more concerned about the recruits at the Varsity level than developing the underclassmen. Now the LA program is paying the price. That is why our last four freshmen teams had a record of 9-1, this years JV team won league, this years frosh team won league and we are 0-9 at the varsity level.
LA Parent,
LA will be fine in the next few years as soon as they get rid of parents like you! I have two boys attending LA, one is a four year varsity player in 3-sports and my only job has been to help the coaches instead of complaining. If I see something that I do not approve of, I respond by doing something about it. If you dont' like what you see...get involved and stop complaining! Be part of the solution not the problem!
All that really matters is the now 5'9" 150 pounds. When this #32 comes to school next year at 5'9" 150 pounds we will talk.
Denny Crane,
Yea, I feel the same way about #32. I saw a little of yesterdays game, this #32 was the team. Without him it would have been a game.
I heard #22's family has VIP status at LA so this kid has everything handed to him on a silver platter. That’s why he was brought up over a few other more desiring players. The kids talk about it a lot. A kid like that doesn't have the respect of his teammates.
Against Wilson they could put both these kids in with limited success. They get matched up with Gilmore and they are done, a whole different league.
Last years freshmen running back, Jordon Gutierrez, about 5'-4", 125, now 5'-9", 150 and doing well at South Hills...
LA Parent
Guess what? #32 RB, and #22 TE are both supposed to play for LA in tonights varsity Wilson game.
Don't put to much stock in 32's gmae though. He has plenty of moves, and makes people miss, but he can't break tackles. Once someone grabs his jersey he folds like a chair. Not his fault really. C'mon he's like 5'5" 120 lbs. He'll never be GREAT at RB. My guess is, by the time he's a senior, he'll be 5'10' 160# (max), and be playing DB. Let's face it, genetics are what they are.
LA Insider,
Gone for the day, went and watched the freshmen game. I will have to say that LA freshmen team has one good player on it. That kid will not start on varsity next year, which is the running back #32. Now I know why you said the freshmen coaches are garbage. The technique these kids had on defense or lack of was a joke. This LA defense looks like they throw some athletics on the field and let them play. Now the offense, or should I say #32, he has loads of talent, but once again lacking technique. He could be a great running if he was taught how to run. The quarterback is a joke, this is another kid that has no technique, and is about as mobile as a turtle. When Wilson put any type of rush on this kid he either throw an interception or got sacked. I heard LA should have scored 100 on this Wilson team, didn’t believe it, but when I saw them I was a believer. I left at half time, saw enough.
For the record I do agree with Denny Crane Dwayne Despain built the LA program. Cody and Harwell won those titles not Gano. The only thing Gano has proven to me is he knew when to jump ship. He saw zero talent this year and quit. All the Gano supporters say he quit because of his daughter. Answer me this question, if it was because of his daughter then why did he quit her sophomore year and not her freshmen year?
How did Longoria put himself in that situation when the school messed up when it came to the CIF rule?
We all know the Zamano family is still involved with the school, when you have the Vice Principals with a picture of the kid on his desk. Then you have Zamano’s Uncle running a speed camp at LA for the younger kids. Do I need to say anymore?
To be honest with you, yes I could do a better job than our JV and Frosh staff, but would never deal with the politics that go along with the job at LA.
"Wonder how Gano feels about the program he built...."
How soon they forget...
Gano didn't build that LA program. Dwayne Despain built that LA program, and ran it from 1969-1998. Dwayne Despain brought home 7 CIF championships, BACK when LA played in the real divisions; 3A, 4A, Big 5, Division 1.
What did Gano win? A couple of division 6, and division 7 titles, BFD. And who did he have on those teams? Sean Cody, and Brigham Harwell. Not much coaching to be done there. Just roll the balls out, and let 'em play.
Gano couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. AND HE KNOWS IT. That's why he bailed out of the LA coaching job now that some real coaching was going to be needed.
Hey Aguilar, feel like you got suckered into a bad deal?
Yeah, the only reason Felipe came down on those kids[who happen to be the "cool/jocky" players] was to set an example to the underclassmen for next year. The reason he didn't bench then the whole game is because there is no one else and he does not want to be hated for benching the starters/seniors and losing the only they have a chance to win. Players that are somehow realted to any of the coaches or kiss their a@@ will play. that's the way it is at LA ... right now. Coach A feels like none of the players on varsity that are seniors respect him and he doesn't want the Verti situation to come true so he's acting like the male reproductive organ. And all to "send a message" to the underclassmen ... "dont !@#$ with me, if u do you won't play". And he wants to keep all those talented freshmen by "guaranteeing" them a spot on varsity next year, which any freshmen will kill for. LA looks like a down team for the next few years, and things[coaching/coaches themselves] need to change[or leave]. Wonder how Gano feels about the program he built....
Hahaha!
You crack me up. Bitterness is dripping from every post you make.
I'll make this quick:
1) Yes, if you are left on JV at the end of the season and the Varsity team was 0-9 then you aint very good!
2) I never said anything about the freshmen coaches...I think they're garbage. But the JV coaches did a fantastic job this year! They deserve your respect for doing what they did with so little talent.
3) Longoria put himself in that situation, just like Zamano put himself in the situation to get benched at the start of the year because of grades. Had Longoria taken care of business in the classroom none of this would have happened.
4) Who exactly are you saying Zamano is related to? His uncle left the coaching staff long before the season ever started. And that was back when the kid DIDN'T play!
5) Your kid is not as good as the kid starting in front of him. DEAL WITH IT! If you think you know better...go into Mrs. McReynold's office and pick up an application!
If you want to bring Mr. Longoria’s name into this; I suppose you think that was right what they did to his kid. School messes up and who pays for it, the kid. Then the projected starting quarterback, a week before the season doesn’t make the grades. He is related to one of the coaches on the staff at LA. Longoria’s kid get’s the starting job. Then after LA is like 0-7 he becomes eligible. The first game back the kid starts both ways. Mean while those kids that worked their a@@’s off last two months are on the bench. You sure did teach that kid, only a junior a real good lesson for next year. Yes, the team really respected the way the coaching staff handled that situation. Too many decisions are made based on who the kid is related to and not what is best for the team, aka politics.
Because of the way you handled that situation you are mostly going to lose another one or two players to South Hills next year.
They are talking about Jordan our freshmen running back from last year who is a starting varsity running back over at South Hills this year. South Hills has another one or two players off our freshmen team from last year starting at the varsity level.
Great Job Coaching Staff
LA Insider,
Every time you make a comment on this blog your put your foot further up your a@@;
"Anyone worth a crap was brought up to the Varsity level a long time ago"
So what are you saying about all those kids on the JV team. I guess you are saying that they aren't worth crap.
My comments are the comments from the kids on that team. Just like the freshmen level, the coaching is a joke. Yes I know our freshmen team was league champs also. This freshmen team was suppose to be the most talent bunch of kids in Los Altos history. The four freshmen teams before them went 9-1 and this freshmen team is 6-3. We don’t develop (coach) at the lower levels and that is why we are 0-9 at the varsity level.
You are right about discipline, but that should have been addressed during the summer not week 10, game over.
Correct. This year has been filled with various discipline issues for Coach Aguilar. This is not the first time he has benched players for violating team rules.
From what I understand mandatory attendance at the lower level games was never officially mandatory, just expected. Well after an 0-9 start Coach Aguilar realized that he needed to change some things. That's why he specifically told the players what he expected. He didn't just change it with no notice. Why wait until next year to start creating more discipline on a team that went 0-9?
Look Mr. Longor.....I'm sorry....LA Parent, let me make this really clear once again. A clearly stated team rule was blatantly violated. The Head Coach disciplined these kids by sitting them one quarter. Should it matter that they are seniors? Should it matter that it is the last game of the season? A RULE IS A RULE!
To me, this is why football is the greatest game in the world! There are no Kobe Bryants or Michael Jordans in football that can lead a team to victory by themselves. It is truly a TEAM of 11 guys doing exactly what they are supposed to do all game long and getting it done. If even one person screws up...things go bad!
Football is about teaching discipline and learning that there are consequences (both positive and negative) for your actions.
Maybe you look at football differently. Please enlighten us.
OH, one last thing. Please explain your criticism of the JV coaching staff. They just won the league title! How do you think they did that? With all the star talent they have? Anyone worth a crap was brought up to the Varsity level a long time ago! These guys beat Charter Oak and Bonita with what they had...not bad coaching if you ask me!
LA Insider,
"Coach Aguilar decided it was time to put his foot down."
So what you are telling us is that this behavior has been going on all year, but Coach Aguilar decides to put his foot down the last game of the season.
Around 9 games to late......
LA Parent,
Let's get the record straight here. Coach Aguilar told the entire team that they were required to attend the ENTIRE JV game. The Varsity team has their team meal immediately following the JV game. Over the past few weeks some players have been skipping out early. Coach Aguilar decided it was time to put his foot down.
These guys were there when Coach told them the expectation. Not one of them came up to coach and said they had something else going...NOT ONE! There was one kid who missed because he had work and told the coaches...he was excused.
As far as punishment fitting the crime I think you are 100% right! Blatantly ignoring your coach's explicit instructions and then telling him to his face how stupid his decision is (yes, this happened) does not deserve a 1st quarter suspension. It deserves a FULL GAME suspension!
ReallY,
Gilmore at BA, BA would be undefeated.
understand football, then come back and talk to us.
cj...you just got handed your lunch!
Gilmore better than the players at Bishop Amat? Get serious.
cjpackfan...
I played with and am still friends with these guys and I could care less what "proof" you feel like you need. I've pushed sleds for many miles with these players and spent many days on planes and busses with them. I agree with you that the players you listed are all very talented. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find a player from the 1969, 1970, 1971 Bears that wasn't talented. However, and if you had the access to do so, you could ask Butkus or Sayers what they think about Dick Gordon. What they thought about his personality as an athlete and his work ethic as a team mate... I can absolutely assure you they will agree with me! While I would love to share some old pictures or newspaper clippings with you, I am an educated man and I will not give out any identification information over a blog on the internet! Sorry - you don't have to belive me, but I was there and there wasn't a guy on our team that didn't learn a lesson or two from Dick Gordon. He was great on the field and even better off. And that doesn't mean your list isn't also stacked with great players and fine men.
By the way... I do indeed take a hand full of meds every morning! Father time and gravity have their way with me with some consistency!
LA Insider,
You have an excused miss practice during the week, you don’t start. You skip a practice you don’t play. You leave the JV game you are watching early, you don’t play the first quarter, maybe the whole game of the last game of your football career. Let the punishment fit the crime.
The kids and parents do understand what the real reason is why these kids aren’t starting. Now we have to deal with the coaches favorites at the varsity level also. LA needs to get the politics out of their football program. Every year we lose 1/3 of our quality freshmen kids due to coaches that have no clue what talent is and no clue how to run a practice. We have almost 100 kids out their and 22 of them are practicing at any one time. That's why we lost the wheel last year to Wilson. That starting quarterback at Wilson was the best quarterback and baseball pitcher in the area his freshmen year. He went to LA as a freshman; lose the QB spot to a varsity coach’s son, need I say more. He saw the writing on the wall, transferred to Wilson. Last year his senior year we ended up with some BA reject that throw more interceptions than completed passes. The Wilson quarterback was one of the top rated quarterbacks in the valley.
The freshmen kids already know that the JV coaching staff is worse than the freshmen staff, didn’t think that was possible. So now we have Coach Aguilera going around and telling all the freshmen kids that they are going to start on Varsity next year. So they don’t have to worry about the JV staff. The funny part of all this is most of these kids believe him. LA can't afford to lose kids, these coaches are killing us.
I was fortunate enough to be the off. coordinator at Wilson the last several years with Tim Gilmore. From Tim's freshman year to his junior year, he made unbelievable strides in his ability to play offensive football, but also his personality and work ethic. Tim is a challenging kid to coach because he is an unbelievably talented kid that requires discipline. Having that made him a much better person and player.
He is the same talent this year that allowed him to get astronomical numbers rushing and receiving last year, however the outcome this year is quite different. I am not close enough to the program to say what exactly the problems are but this is a team not very well coached. The kids have to suffer through that and Tim is suffering more than most.
Deep down Tim is a really good kid who is learning what it takes to make it or not make it at all aspects of being a student/athlete. Tim can easily be a D1 football player and student. As I told him at the banquet last year, it us up to HIM only to make this drearm happen, and he can.
I hope Tim takes care of his business in the future and becomes a quality person and athlete. I wish him the best of luck.
LA Parent,
Are you telling me that the LA coaching staff is punishing their players for violating team rules? WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO????
You're right, the staff should just look the other way and let those kids play. I'm sure that will send a great message to all the underclassmen for next year!
You're a Jackass!
Well if the LA coaching staff has it their way Gilmore is going to have it his way tomorrow. I have been told that five top starters will not be playing the first quarter and maybe the whole game because they left the JV game early last week. What is crazy about this is most of the players are seniors and this is their last game. Now their not starting because they left the game early to go get a hair cut. Most of these kids that are filling in have no business being on the field, they are getting their a@@'s handed to them on scout defense. What do you think Gilmore is going to do to them?
just wondering, are you on meds or what? you're the only person you believes Dick Gordon was a more gifted player than either Butkus or Sayers, are you kidding me? I watched many Packer?Bear games up close in both the old County Dtadium in Milwaukee and City Stadium/Lambeau Field,Green Bay and Gordon was never a presence, the late JC Caroline,Fortunato,Atkins,Caesraes, all more talented in the NFL, my advice to you is you want to throw out your high level of competition(seriously doubt it) than post your last name or a pic of you with Papa Bear.it's so easy to brag online and remain nameless, if you want some credibility quit making outlandish, anonymous claims is all I'm saying
This is a very “un-Robledo” type blog… normally individual players are spared being subjected to bloggers. Oh well… During the course of this season I don’t suppose there has been a single player who has lacked expected press any more than Tim Gilmore. Clearly his team has struggled under a new coach and a new offensive system… which brings me to my point. I played in both college and professional football with some exceptional players. I played with the likes of Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus but the single most gifted player I ever played with (or saw play for that matter) was a wide receiver named Dick Gordon. In retrospect I believe Dick was so gifted for three reasons. First, he played well regardless of how his team played around him. Second, he never made an excuse… not for anything. I don’t know how many times he would come back to a huddle and say… Sorry… I’ll do better next time. But never a T.O. show… no finger pointing… no grandstanding… and never a desire for the spotlight. And finally, he did his job. I know this sounds silly, but any wide receiver who has played the position very long will tell you that catching the football happens in about 8-10% of plays if you’re a #1 receiver… less if you’re the #2 or #3 guy. The rest of the time… you’re a blocker… and a very important one in most plays! He was the best blocking receiver I’ve ever seen. Today Hines Ward is the best in pro football, but Dick was still better.
I said all that to say this… The question in this blog is… what will young Tim do now? If he gets a chance at a JC or perhaps higher, Mr. Gilmore needs to #1 – play his best no matter how people are playing around him… #2 – Don’t make excuses… #3 Do his job 100% of the time. If he does this – his so/so senior season will be forgotten in moments and he will succeed at the next level. He clearly has tremendous skill and is a committed athlete – so hopefully he gets a chance next year some place. I’d love to read about him in the Tribune!
Gilmore was easily the most talented player I saw all year. Cannot talk about the negatives, as I have no first hand knowledge about the bad attitude or the lack of grades. I do wonder why some of the posts are so down on him, as he is a high school student and basically still a minor. It is possible he didn't have a mentor to help steer him in the right direction and help keep him on the straight and narrow. In my experience as a coach and father over the years, a strong leader/mentor is the only thing that keeps a great many of our kids doing things the right way.
No matter what, it will be a shame if this kid can't get his act together to see what he can do at the next level. In my opinion, he definitely could play at the D 1 level athletically. He will have to prove to someone that he deserves a chance.
Gilmore's 15 minutes of fame is just about up...wait....no...IT'S UP!
First everyone respects his loyolty and now everyone wants to play teh "what if" game or question his judgment in staying. That's the nature of sports...you just never know do you?
The same could be said about NOT awarding Gilmore the POY Award..."seeing as he had one more year left"...wonder if anyone's feeling the slight but guilty right about now.
Co-POY would have been nice.
Only makes you shake your head and think back about McD winning two in a row!
God I loved to see that kid play!
Is Bryce McBride even playing anywhere?
Amat Alum, Marcus Wagner and Bryce McBride are what 5'6" at best. They were slowed by injuries but if they had outstanding grades they would have found a better college then a Mt Sac to play ball at. One kid Amat has fits that category but he is a 4.0 student if not better and he will not only get a offer for his football skills but he will get one because he really gets busy with his school work and his name is Brent Seals. Colleges will give the offer to a lesser talent but a smart student v.s. wasting their time getting the much talented kid with lousy grades that may not make the grade and be inelgible altogether. Colleges want a success rate in their offers. I'd take brains over talent anyday.
True Blue
You can't put Bryce McBride and Marcus Wagner with W.Wagner and Gilmore. Both players were good students and only injuries hurt their chances. McBride should haven't have left Amat or maybe he could be playing in the Mountain West or other smaller D1 schools. William Wagner is a different story because he did in fact have several D1 schools watching him but bad grades prevented him from earning a ride.
Its all about coaching
And last years group had a bunch of respect for oviedo. This new guy, although I don't know him or his style, but it seems the same respect and discipline factor is no longer there.
Good luck gilmore an old friend!
A Fan of the Entire San Gabriel Valley!
Waah Waah Waah.
William Wagner (amat)
Bryce McBride (Los Altos)
Marcus Wagner (Amat)
and Now Gilmore
**good HS backs YES NO DOUBT,,, Junior College at best, big time college football NEVER!.**
Not very good in the classroom also hinders athletes like these as far as getting recruiters and campuses to take a chance on them.
BTW, I can't mention everyone, although I know that's the only way to make some of you happy. And if you read what I wrote I gave him credit for staying, and I said all last summer that I was glad he stayed at Wilson. This thread was to simply wonder why might have been with Gilmore at traditonal power schools in the area. If you think that's bias, then alright.
I didn't mention Charter Oak because they have Muema. I mentioned area power schools that could use a running back like Gilmore. These are school that traditionally players consider when thinking about going to another school, so I threw it out there. Maybe I should have mentioned Damien or Diamond Ranch too.
It's a damn shame that a talent like that was wasted at a poor program like Wilson.
Should be a fun contest, though, playing Los Altos this week. I hope both teams play with heart despite the circumstances.
CO, Bonita and DR will represent the Miramonte well this year in the playoffs. CO #1
Why suggest his transferring to South Hills and Bishop Amat and not anywhere else? Your bias and subjectivity is so obvious and before you say I included Los Altos that's a default suggestion. The only school I'm surprised you didn't mention in your commentary is Charter Oak although you seem to not have the same infatuation with them like you do the other two schools.
We had better coverage, more coverage, and fair coverage for every team in our Valley when our last editor (I can't remember his name) was in charge of the newspaper. I appreciate you mentioning Gilmore on an 0-9 football team but I have no respect for your favoritism and being partial to two schools over everyone else and your comments are inappropriate. There are quite a few teams in the Valley Gilmore could of played for and made a difference and been successful not just the two teams everybody has to accept you infatuated with over everyone else.
Go ahead deny my comments but why didn't you mention La Puente or West Covina in your post? Both schools are just as conveniently and centrally located as the "other" schools.
One time I would like some creditability to go along with our "rag" paper. I guess that will continue to be wishful thinking in the meanwhile good luck Gilmore and your future. Your highlights suggest you have many brighter days ahead of you very soon.
Don't forget that he is also a track star - he was 2nd last year at the CIF Masters for the 100m // he may be able to get into football at a major university because of a track scholarship // BTW - talking about Azuza Pacific - last Saturday Brian Clay - olympic gold medalist for the Decathlon - is from APU - and he spoke at a dinner there this past Saturday - so there is a track presence at APU as well - good luck to T Gilmore where ever he goes
Gilmore currently plans on going to Azusa Pacific. A few of his teammates are currently playing at Azusa Pacific. Mt. Sac. is his second option.
