Saturday Morning Quarterback: Rosemead, Azusa, Northview win outright league titles, Notre Dame routs Bishop Amat, 56-21

Mission Valley update: Rosemead made a case for a top-four seed in the Mid-Valley and should be No. 1 according to us after a 50-12 pounding over Arroyo to claim the league title outright. They've done everything they're supposed to do, now it's up to the people who put it all together.

Serra League: Notre Dame's 56-21 victory over Bishop Amat gives the Knights, the No. 1 team in the nation according to MaxPreps, the outright title after going 10-0 and 3-0. Because Loyola (6-4, 2-1) beat Crespi (6-4, 0-3) 14-13 on Friday, Loyola earns the automatic second-place entry, leaving the Lancers (7-3, 3-1) alone in third, which is a good thing. Sunday's lone at-large berth in the Pac-5 Division will likely come down to Amat and St. John Bosco, a 48-31 loser to Servite on Friday. St. John Bosco finished fourth in the Trinity League but also had a 7-3 overall record. But it's hard to believe that St. John Bosco will get in over Amat, especially since Amat beat Trinity league champion Orange Lutheran.
Side note: Amat QB Jerry McClanahan didn't start the first half for disciplinary reasons. He was apparently late to a team meeting, and per team rules, he had to sit out. That says a lot about coach Hagerty, not putting anyone before the rules of the team. I also learned something else interesting. If you noticed there hasn't been an "A" in the middle of Amat's field this year. The guy who paints the "A" told me that Hagerty said they need to earn it first.

Friday's results
Rosemead 50, Arroyo 12 -- If this doesn't make the Panthers a top four seed, nothing will.
Notre Dame 56, Bishop Amat 21 -- It was a humbling loss to say the least, but wins over Orange Lutheran and Crespi should get the Lancers into the Pac-5 playoffs.
Covina 34, Baldwin Park 12 -- Looks like the Colts are heading to the playoffs as the No. 3 team from the Valle Vista. Maybe a first-round game against Azusa?
El Monte 13, Gabrielino 0 -- The Lions are going to the Mid-Valley playoffs after a shutout over the Eagles. They will go as the No. 3 from the MVL.
San Dimas 62, Ganesha 19 -- How's that for a thunderous reaction to last week's loss to Northview. Someone's going to be shaking at the knees when they get the Saints in the first round.
Northview 27, Pomona 7 -- The Vikings clinch the Valle Vista title outright, and could go in as a top two seed in next week's playoffs.
Azusa 42, Bassett 0 - Give it up to the Aztecs, they crushed everyone in the Montview, are 9-1, and deserve whatever seed they get in the Mid-Valley. Question is, how far can they go?
Duarte 48, La Puente 0 -- The Falcons are warming up just in time and may have the running back in Jordan Canada to cause some damage in the playoffs.
South El Monte 51, Mountain View 14 -- Great finish, but a case of too little too late.
Sierra Vista 35, Gladstone 0 -- For a team that we had ranked 33 out of 33 at one point, what a great finish to make the playoffs.
Damien 25, Chino 6 -- Spartans salvage season with two straight wins at the end. Congrats for hanging tough guys.
Serra League
Bishop Amat 7 0 7 7 -- 21
Notre Dame 14 14 21 7 -- 56

werd down,
A little more comes out now. Good to see you can articulate some thoughts other than the crap you have been spewing. Negative as they may be at least you are contributing. Glad to here you watched us on tv. That says one of two things about you.Either you were wronged by AMAT which expalins your hate or your team is DR.
"The price of excellence is discipline. The cost of mediocrity is disappointment."
Somebody important said that... I don't remember who.
(they say the mind is the second thing to go...I forget the first)
Late to practice, late to pick up his jersey? who cares. Sure Amat got to the the 11th game but it all comes to a end Friday as Jerry Mac will be hounded by that front four of the Jackrabbits. You thought Loyola was in Macs Face watch as Poly records somewhere around 6 sacks in this game. If Amats gound game sputters and you know it will (Poly has the best defense then all pac5 teams)Amat will choose to pass at which point Jerry M will be running for his dear life. This is not even fair, Poly's pass rush is awesome. Like ND another game over by half time. Amat will not be in this game so save your $10-$12 and your gas money unless you want to see a Poly Romp. I just do not see Amats line containing these monsters that Poly has up front. Game and Season over. One goal that you will not achieve on that list Fox Sports west showed during your TV game vs Diamond Ranch is "Practicing on Thanksgiving". Sorry Poly is far too superior. Poly 62 Bishop Amat 12

You seem to have all the answers of where the Amat QB was last Friday morning. Why don't you enlighten us all to your wisdom and truth? What really happened then?

werd up,
Well I guess you did not take my advise to you on Friday. I still stand by my statement concerning the Men in Blue. As for you this blog has gotten much better in the last few months as far as people posting with some reason and thought behind their posts. We did have a few of these hit and run posters that came on here with idiotic posts like yours but they are far and few between now. If you would like to post why don't you post something with substance instead of your dumb ass one line anti AMAT hits. I guess you do have some smarts as you are able to cut and post as I saw in one of you posts to me. Just contribute something other than your senseless ramblings . Take the lead of another famous drive by artist donkey boy who is now known as King Stud who often has meaningful insight on many topics. In closing I would like to wish the Lancers a big congatulations on your season and best wihes in this Friday's game against Poly. GO LANCERS.
The first step in "preparing for the game" is getting your uniform. Plus, anything outside of the planned itinerary should be pre-communicated.. rather than needing to explain afterwards.
I heard an interesting thing on TV this morning. NFL Super Bowl Champion Coach, Tom Coughlin was criticized HEAVILY ,when he first got to the Giants for fining players because they were only 5 minutes EARLY for a meeting ... and he wanted them 15 minutes EARLY. Not for being LATE... but for not being EARLY enough!
Well, now he no longer fines players for that infraction... not because he chose not to.... because he no longer has to. Most players now trust and respect their teammates enough that they are committed to them and know the importance of THE LITTLE THINGS. Except for Plaxico Burress who continues to get disciplined for the same types of infractions. Expect him to be gone soon.
It seems to be working fine for them... because it's the right thing to do.
Artie,
Mac was not at the DMV. He was preparing for the game. You need to get the facts! The Coach jumped the gun, before finding out the circumstances.
Move on, and focus on playoffs.
oops, wrong thread.
JfL,
One more week, are you sure? Stranger things have happened this season so don't go counting your chickens just yet. Nothing is settled until the final gun sounds.
artie,
jkust as I had stated below, late for uniform. The other examples I gave happened to other players for other games, not for JM.
Also please don't confuse me with the two sport post from earlier, I had nothing to do with that bit of rage.
Bleeds Blue & Gold,
Here is the smack on Mac...the kid was NOT disciplined for having a previous commitment to baseball or any other sport (many players play on other teams i.e. soccer, baseball, wrestling, etc.). He WAS disciplined for not picking up his uniform before first period. Rules ARE rules...an appointment at DMV could have been rescheduled, don't you think? Having Mac start would not have kept us from losing since the d-line couldn't hold ND. Change the d-line around with players who are truly hungry to win and you now have a new line of defense. Any of you who have seen the movie 'WaterBoy' knows that Coach Hag got brainlock by running the same off tackle run time after time without ever adjusting. 5 days to make adjustments....GO AMAT!
What's this about RULES???
Tom Osborne
Former Nebraska Head Coach
National Championship Coach
Lawrence Phillips apologist
So does enforcing rules mean when you have abig game in front of you?
Hags did the right thing.
Been there done that.
Wow I can’t believe some of these fools on board that are dogging coach Hagerty for enforcing his team rules. There is NO excuse for a player breaking team rules PERIOD! I congratulate the coach for teaching his players the values of responsibilty and accountability both on and off the field. That being said, I’d also would like to congratulate him and his entire coaching staff for the great job they did this season.
Hey, if anyone has a beef with this coach, send your kid to the public school on the other side of town. Where they allow their players to show up to practice when ever they feel like it, where the players talk back to their coaches, where the coach catches hell from the parents when little Johnny gets disciplined or benched, where the booster club shuts down the snack bar because the coach isn’t playing their kids, where the principle doesn’t back up the coach and gives in to the parents demands and gives the coach an altimatum to either play these kids or resign…..send your kid that school!!! There he’ll be a star…a Friday night warrior in a losing program!
A little too late is right. As much as it hurts to say this, ROSEMEAD WILL BE CIF CHAMPIONS, these guys can lay wood on anybody, I was just hoping they would have spanked Arroyo a little harder =]] Well good luck panthers represent
MaxPreps may have N Dame No. 1 in the nation - but I think USAToday's No. 1 (Euless Trinity, Texas - which is a public school not catholic by the way)has it correctly - it even has Wilson's top freshman on vasisty this year thinking of moving there - his grandmother lives in Euless - BTW USAToday has Long Beach Poly as the best CA team this year - let the games begin
SGVFAN,
The word I heard is that he did not show up at 7:30am to pick up his uniform. A rule set forth by Hagerty. The same situation happened against Chaminade when our starting LB wss late, along with others, and did not play this first half.
Do you concur or have another story about our QB?
Bleeds blue and gold,
The difference is the kid did not miss practice, had detention or any of the above. It was completely different circumstances. The coach's ego was more important than the team's morale
Swordsman Rule,
Your dreaming, Amat would beat SP by three TD's this year.
Boz,
I haven't seen CO this year but from what I hear, & from all their game results I agree they could be better this year, I saw them 3 times last year & they were real good, but
I can see them being better with Muema, Chris Allen, Perrie, Williams, & others, Personally I hope WC gets put in the other bracket than CO, but either way I can't wait for these playoffs to begin.
wanna see a great game
st. paul vs bishop amat
st paul will smashhhhh on amat st. paul all the way go swordsman!!!!!!!!!!
When I first heard about McClanahan being benched for the first half, I thought no way, not this game. As time passed I eventually thought back to the team retreat they took over the summer and what it tried to teach the boys. Even if you look back during the season you saw a lot of kids standing on the sidelines in their sweater vests and they were not hurt. What you saw were kids who missed a practice, had a detention or two during the week or some other type of disciplinary action against them. They all sat out.
So the system has to work for all or it doesn't work, period. Like it or not, the call had to be made and Hagerty made the right call. For anyone to call him out for this is insane. The outcome of the game wouldn't be any different.
What some fail to realize is that this team has gone from 3-7 to 7-3 in one year and beaten two of the top teams in CIF. How many coaches in SoCal are able to pull off an accompishment like that? Perhaps you like the way the previous staff ran things. Is that what you want to go back to? Oh wait, pull your kid out of the program because he might be sitting on the sidelines one day in the not too distant future. That's teaching him something.
I'll take things just the way there are and they are moving forward. For those who want to march to the beat of their own drummer, good-bye.
Rosemead faced a challenge in the first quarter and still managed to spank Arroyo. Tra Sumnler plays harder than anybody I have seen in a long time . The kid does not stop and the quarterback is also one other kid that plays with alot of heart. Good luck Panthers and show the SGV what you can do!
FYI SGV Tribune STAFF ..
Rosemead High School WON the MVL last night & it was a ONE SIDED affair . But as in the past more than 10 of the 15 photos on the SGV tribune website FEATURED Arroyo players .
WHAT GIVES ?
I guess it really does not matter , the scoreboard is the only thing that , mattered. While I was leaving the parking lot @ BL Bergstrom the Arroyo staff cleared it asap , I would have also ...
50-12 does not look to good.
On the field it looked MUCH WORSE .
FIGHT ON
TM
Dan, we are also better than last year. You have seen both, wouldn't you agree?
Boz,
Your team smoked us once last year, the second game was within a touchdown [27 to 21] till into the 4th qtr.
Your team looks real good right now but one other thing your wrong on is that this year's WC team is
better than last years.
First time I saw Amat all year last night.
1) If the starting QB started he still wouldn't have stopped the ND offense
2) Why so many damn roll outs to the left with right handed quarterbacks?
3) The ND QB isn't the best quarterback I've ever seen, but he might be the most accurate.
BREAKING NEWS:
Bishop Amat is selected as the at-large in the Pac 5 Playoffs.
weirdo,

Still true!
Loved the quote in todays paper, "They're a great team, and that's the level we want to get too," Hagerty said. "We learned they're a good team and we're not quite where we want to be...."
Any team or player worth their salt should want an opportunity to play the #1 TEAM IN THE NATION to find out how good you REALLY are. Especially when you already have two wins over other teams that will be in the Top 100 this week. No shame in that AT ALL!
If you don't test yourself ... what have you really learned. There's only ONE team in the valley that knows.
Schedules matter.
I completely support Hag. Kudos for his decision to sit out Mac. He laid down the law and enforced it period. You complainers open a can of worms for boneheads like donkeyboy.
I know it was painful watching Lenhart in as QB, but he did fine until his first interception that went for a TD. I knew the passing game was dead after that int. ND's powerful no huddle offense is a remarkable well oiled scoring machine. When you have no pass defense and allow their QB to sit in the pocket all night long and pick his receivers...you are asking for trouble! Price and Johnson played brilliantly but they can only do so much. The middle was exploited and with their speedy backs and receivers, ND just scored at will.
Rooney is a class act by subbing his 2nd and 3rd team when the game was out of reach for Amat. The score could have easily topped 80 points if HC Rooney wanted to act like coach Markham.
Like I said before, this guy and his program is class act.

Notre Dame routs Bishop Amat, 56-21
OPPS WERD UP
Interesting tidbit about the "A" at midfield.
Amat73... remember when they were "amat" and needed to *earn* the "Capital A"?
I knew Hags was my kind of guy!
SDMOM
Who didn't?
Hagsmustgo,
Sometimes coaches have to make a decision that is best for the student-athlete, not the football team. Hopefully the quarterback learned a life lesson about responsibility to the group or team. Hagerty knew it might cost the game, but building better people is still the goal.
SC TROJAN
Come on Andy, get off the blog. You're a little man with alot of baggage.
Have anymore jerseys for sale?
Hmm looks like all is not well on the Amat campus. If the QB did show up at noon to school on game day then shame on him. We need to keep in mind these are teenagers who make mistakes but if this is the true story then Hags handled it correctly. And even if the kids plays it looks like the game might have been more respectable but ND still would have won easily. All you amat fans whining put a cork in it. This was done the right way and will help the program in the long run. Plus what do you think the chances are the QB shows up late again to school? If the kid is smart he will be there at 7am every day!
I am never a big fan of losing your last game going into the playoffs but sometimes that can actually help a team. A team can refocus become more committed and preform at a higher level than before. Not sure this will happen with the lancers but we will find out if they get the at large berth.
nevergetsbush & 7/2, I hope and pray that we play WC again, they had a better team last year and we smoked them twice. I would love to see Fred consoling his Edgewood buddy at the end of the game, again.
The SGV is not getting weaker its get stronger with more parity. and for all you amat haters. I am not a amat fan , Some of their fans are playing ass holes probably dads who never played a single down and road the pine. BUT ITS only the first Yr. BEWARE
they are building something strong over there. if that coaching staff stays committed. They will once again be a power house. But its great that some teams have the Balls to play them. I give West covina alot of credit . 2 years paying Marter Dei and 2 with Amat I dont see any URRRRGH CO, SH.SD. GH. URRRRGH stepping up to play them .
TM kool
Class 83 here #42
I thinks its time to put another banner up on the Rosemead GYM. Just Stay Focused, I see only one Team out there that will give them problems San Dimas at full strength. Goog luck Panters and GO Bulldogs
Quit your gripping. You Lancers got what you want. A "REAL" coach and an awesome football coaching staff. The discipline comes with the territory, just shut up, stop blaming other sports LOOKING FOR A SCAPEGOAT. The kid was freaking ABSENT for his PERIOD ONE and TWO class. Here's a news flash for you the kid was ABSENT. Just strolled on the campus at freaking NOON on a GAME DAY (not just a GAME DAY A SERRA LEAGUE TITLE GAME)disregarding everything the TEAM and COACHES are striving for.
YES 1990.
WOW , I watched in disbelief as the Panthers continued to pour it on .
NEXT UP ???
I would NOT want to face this team .RHS is bringing the wood !
FIGHT ON
TM
Mac was not tardy. How can you questioned his commitment for the football program?
the score was:
South El Monte 61 (not 51)
Mountain View 14
....as though this was the competition for 2nd to last place, it was as if I was flashbacking to a few years ago when South El Monte got smashed by a similar score against South Hills in the CIF Playoffs. Then I quickly realized it was just Mountain View, even the number of people in the marching band outnumbered their squad, that's how bad it was for them, then again we weren't that far off either.
Though difficult to walk away without the win, our boys are truly champions. Many have differing opinions of Coach Hag's decision, even within our own household. Yet, from years of calling plays from the stands (easier than from the sidelines, huh?) I think discipline wins every time. Sometimes we have to make the difficult decision to mean what we say: be it good or bad. It doesn't make you popular, but you didn't do it for popularity.
Back to the boys:
A wonderful season! I have been watching through the tough years, too. I never stopped cheering. I didn't stop cheering tonight.
I'm proud to be a Lancer.
Hagerty is an a$$. Amat is down so bad at the start of the 4th quarter, ND goes to 2nd team, then the 3rd team - both which still moved the ball and scored. Hags NEVER let the other Amat players play even when he had NO chance of competing tonight - worse yet he has tired, undersized OL guys sub for the tired DL, so even the kids that practice to be 2nd team DL still don't play.
What a jerk ... demoralize the starters AND the others that "don't rate" to step on his precious game field.
Nice tradition. Loser.
Notre Dame is no joke. I can't see them losing...They are fast and they have so many different looks with that spread they run. Long Beach Poly's defense is probably the only school that can keep up with them in California. I support Hagerty in his decision. Jerry should have known that this is the biggest game of the season. He should have been eating and sleeping football all week. Since Jerry is one of the leaders on this team, he must lead by example. Unless for death or sickness...late is late. If he wasn't disciplined then all of the others will assume that late is okay only in death, sickness, or when it involves picking up your jersey (don't know the whole story, just going by what everyone else was saying). Regardless of what happens next...Good regular season to build on for Amat. I just hope that the Amat coaching staff stays intact. There are a lot of colleges and high schools looking for new coaches.
This goes out to whoever posted as Hags must go!
Coach Haggerty has been making tough decisions like this since he arrived on campus last spring, and those decisions have set the tone for the great turnaround that has occurred this fall.
You obviously don't know what is required to achieve the kind of success that this team has earned this season, and your statements are very self centered.
It is about the team!!!! That is the bottom line, and that is the choice you make as an Amat player. It is the responsibility of the coach to set the rules and it is the responsibility of the players to follow them. Those coaches and all coaches make great sacrifices in their personal lives at the cost of their friends and families, not to become big shots, but to give back to the sport that supported them when they were growing up and to help the current players develop into better individuals. If you really think that being the Amat head football coach (any sport for that matter!) is being a celebrity in nature, then you really have no clue about what you are talking about.
It is so easy to make the comments that you made, just like it is so easy to set a fire. In both cases, it is for personal reasons, but the damage is great. You may feel better getting that out but you just didn't trash Coach Haggerty, you bashed and dumped trash on all the other coaches, the alumni, the school and all those Amat players that did show up on time and have sacrificed their time and efforts in order to be successful.
Lastly, what about the the player? If there were extenuating circumstances, I am sure the problem would have been handled differently. It is irresponsible to completely dismiss the responsibility of the player. If he couldn't get there on time then he did not have his heart in the effort. If he couldn't even get there on time, then how was he going to play with all his focus on beating the number 1 team in the state?
A team must stand together as a group or they will fall as individuals. In order to achieve greatness, every Amat football player from the past, put their personal agenda aside for the good of the team, and their are thousands of them that will attest to that. Every Amat football player of the future will do the same, if they want to achieve that same greatness! I'm sorry you never experienced that type of commitment before. Hags just set the tone...again!...that's all!!! Go Lancers!
Los Altos 2008 Season Observations;
Attended half the games and must admit...they weren't as bad as record (1-9) indicates.
2008 BRIGHT SPOTS:
1. Came within *ONE PLAY* of beating San Dimas, Northview & Ayala. Teams with combined record 25-5.
2. Team looked well coached and was usually competitive, considering they didn't have a true GAME BREAKER such as; Gilmore, Muema, Barbone etc...
3. Will return -hopefully- numerous players at key positions in 09; QB, RB, receivers & LB.
2008 DULL SPOTS:
1. Once again -as in 2007- no consistency at QB, although last couple games I think we found our QB for 09.
2. Too many silly offensive turnovers...extended the game and exhausted our Defense.
3. Too many blocked field goals in close games...we wasted a valuable weapon.
CONCLUSION: Although 2008 was probably most grueling season at LA in past 40 years, I NEVER saw team QUIT.
With support and patience, I believe COACH AGUILAR will be successful. He's young, accustomed to winning and part of LA Tradition.
GO CONQS !!!!!!!!!
I went on record last week as saying Amat would get the number 11 seed in the Pac-5 playoffs, I also predicted they'd play the 3rd place team from either the Sunset, or South Coast league, then in the 2nd round, I'm predicting Tesoro or Los Al(the real Los Al)
hey too harsh, tell me about petey carroll, how do all those high draft picks do in the nfl, bush is a 3rd down player, only not too good for the second overall pick, leinert is still a sub, ,mike williams a flop, out of the league, colbert got cut by seattle.........the list goes on and on, maybe that's what coach cheerleader couldn't cut it in the nfl, where MEN play!
I saw the game and I'm an AMAT fan. Amat could not handle ND's offense. ND is the #1 team for a reason. Amat's program is turning around and they will be back at number 1 in due time. Coach Hagerty turned this program around, he sat the kid..it's done. Deal with it. Bishop Amat is a Catholic school where the kids are discilpined for every action. You can't even chew gum there. If you don't like the discipline then you should not be going there. If he plays two sports thats fine. I know how Coaches try and make you favor one sport over the other and they shouldn't do that. If he was late because he was at a Baseball commitment (not sure) then that's wrong. This is football season, stick to your job as starting QB
Its the baseball coach that wants his players to only play one sport. Hags supports multi sport athletes. Shouldn't the commitment be to football - it is game day after all. Are we sure he was at baseball?
sctrojan,
the moniker might be a little telling..... don't you think
Like I said, it takes two to tango and from what I understand the little man is not so happy that he's not the big man on campus anymore and now HE also has to share... which isn't one of his strong suits either.
Like I said Hags supports multiple sport athletes, but the season of sport takes precedent... period
wow! what a team. notre dame is, for lack of a better term, very efficient. they moved the ball at will on a very good defense. i also agree with sgvfbfan. though surprised when i saw that mcclanahan was not at the helm to begin the game, i can't say he would have made a huge difference in the outcome of this one. i say that because he doesn't play in the middle of the field on defense which was truly exploited tonight. it looked as though the nd offense was a step ahead of amat's defense all night. they had an excellent game plan. offensively, i would have liked to have seen amat stay with the power running game to set up the play action more in this one, as it did on the first drive. nonetheless, hats off to nd. they are truly the better team. also, congrats to amat for a greatly successful and unexpected, by most accounts, season. if it continues, i will continue to follow.
Joe Amat,
What did he do to be bench the whole first half?
Joe Amat,
I would love to see a return to glory for Bishop Amat, but don't turn a blind eye to the truth. Haggerty wants committed players and if his players feel they're being punished for playing two sports then he needs to reverse that sentiment and talk to them. And if I hear parents say thay're pulling their kids out because Haggerty is making it hard to be two sport athletes I'm not going to pretend I didn't hear it. But i guess being a committed fan is ignoring the bad news.
Hey TooHarsh,
At least know what you're talking about before you post. Pete Carroll was EXACTLY who I had in mind when I said this would happen in DI programs around the country and he specifically sat Mauelega for the 1st half of the Oregon State game... you remember - the one USC LOST that has them on the outside looking in on the Pac-10 Championship AND the BCS picture.
Read about it in the Oregonian... and then tell me that Hags isn't doing EXACTLY what great coaches around the country are doing to build young men.

i think that's my point. organization seemingly doesn't matter when you're 38 points better than a team. but what about when you're evenly matched or over matched? it means a heck of a lot then. to that end, being organized and efficient should matter at all times.
i'm not agreeing with the move. i think it's stupid. Haggerty thinks his kids should play football only. Amat has a great baseball program and some of their best athletes are playing both sports, if Haggerty keeps it up he's going to loose some good kids and i hear some kids are already talking about quitting the football team or leaving were they can play both sports without being punished for it.
sctrojan,
Did you seriously just write, "you don't know the whole story here"?
Good one!
When it comes to the two sport tussles - it takes two to tango, if you get my drift.
And unless I'm mistaken... it's football season.
Put it this way... Hagerty supports two sport athletes more than the reverse, after all - he WAS a multiple sport athlete as a Lancer AND was a lower level baseball coach when he was at Amat in the '80s.
There's plenty of pressure in the opposite direction for players to give up football so they can concentrate on baseball in the summer and fall... especially some high profile lower level players..."Don't know the whole story?" Really... sctrojan?
Funny this comes up today. Check out this article from ESPN that was printed... today.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=clemmons/081112&sportCat=nfl
Former NFL QB Jake Plummer says,
""My ultimate goal is to get coaches to stop specializing their athletes, telling them they can't play other sports because it'll hurt their football," Plummer says. "I played all three sports and handball whenever I could. That's why I made it in the NFL -- that rounded me out as an athlete.""
COLTS WIN! GREAT GAME!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COLTS AND PARENTS! LAST GAME OF THE SEASON AND WE MAKE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS!
JUST A NOTE TO OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER, COVER ALL THE SCHOOLS GOOD AND BAD GAMES! EVERYONE WORKS JUST AS HARD!
THE BOYS PRACTICE EVERYDAY, SACRAFICE A LOT OF THEIR TIME FROM SCHOOL AND FAMILY, THEY DESERVE BETTER ATTENTION! SOME OF US LIKE TO READ HOW ALL OUR LOCAL SCHOOLS DO!!....
Even with McClanahan in during the first half, it would not have changed Amat's fortunes. ND had just too many horses...too much firepower. Their QB was the real deal. Saw the game from the ND sidelines since I personally know ND's AD. Rooney's ND team and their fans are top class and are deserving of the #1 team in the Nation.
Dan
Regarding your WC SH post, it just shows your a class act. Hey SH has enjoyed great success in SAL tittles, they have been a part of seven straight. But WC played with way more fight in them good job dogs, and lets hope the SAL makes us proud in the playoffs.
what did jerry really do ?
anyone know the real story
Way to go Coach Hags. The program is heading in the right direction. From 3-7 to 7-3 outstanding. The bigger battle is changing the mindset of a group of undisciplined do what ever you want mentality of the last regime....break them & do it your way! It will pay off in the long run...rebuilding character, honesty and courage with our boys.
Pete Carroll never sat down Reggie Bush, Rey Maualuga, or Brian Cushing for being late. He makes them do cigarette rolls after practice and run extra. He doesn't cut off his nose to spite his face.
you don't know the whole story here. Coach Haggerty is trying to make a statement with two sport athletes and getting them to chose football over anything else. Jerry as well as other players are already involved in baseball and although coaches talk to each other and tell them when players may be late because of other team commitmments that wasn't good enough for Haggerty. Don't be suprised if some kids leave the team as a result.
I don't think people would think twice if this was handed down at the Chaminade game. So you're saying the consequences should change depending on the importance of the game?
This is WHY we're back where we are instead of where we were. The culture has changed. This isn't just a lesson for now it's a lesson for the future Lancers too. I can guarantee that this is exactly what would happen at most major university in the country. You better learn it now.
What happens to rules when you compromise their enforcement?
When Bill Walton showed up with a beard on media day, John Wooden reminded him of the "no facial hair rule". When Walton asked what Wooden would do if he didn't cut it, Coach Wooden said, I'm going to miss you!"
He shaved.
Go SAINTS!!!!! SAINTS owned Ganesha tonight 62-19
Joe Amat,
The punishment did not fit the crime.
Just got a call that Servite beat St John Bosco creating a 3-way tie in the Trinity flip tomorrow. Not a good scenario for the Lancers.
Trying to fins out about Loyola.
More on this later... but proud of Hagerty for sticking to his guns and choosing discipline and life lessons over football. Everyone in the Amat Family should be proud too.
What happened with Loyola Crespi?
Anyone have any updates on the Crespi vs. Loyola game? and if Crespi won, any updates on the coin flip?
Coach Hagerty,
I hope you feel you proved your point Mr. Wannabe Big Shot. How can you be so stupid not to start McClanahan at QB. Just because he was a little late this morning. Disciplinary reasons should be cutting class, missing practice, not late to pick up a jersey. You just cost your team a legitimate chance to win the Serra League. If you don't get an at large berth it will be your fault and only your fault. McClanahan would have kept the game competititve. Instead of benching him you could have made him do extra sprints after practice. Why punish the whole team for him being a little tardy.
those weren't Fred and the Tribs audio guys. they were the internet broadcasters
Aram also didn't understand journalistic ethics, either...fred and steve do
nd opened open up a can of whoop ass werd up
when its 56-21 it doesnt matter
Come on Fred the live audio guys are pathetic........
Aram would have never allowed that.
We deserve better!

SEVEN DUECE
i was in the stands at the bonita CO game to and i wasnt thinking about organization
i was thinking if bonita and co played 100 times co would win 100 times
what does organization mean when your gettin beat by 38 on senior night
We are pulling for you Amat, SHOCK THEM ALL!
I've been informed that Amat QB Jerry McClanhan will not start for disciplinary reasons, but is expected to play at some point.
I've been told if a coin flip is needed, it will be held shortly after the game...
third from the right is hot!
YO TM are you a panther alum
Gonna be listening on the other side of the country tonight and will have to fly in IF Amat makes the playoffs...
Pat...I'd like to buy my friend Amat 73 a vowel please....Is there an "I"?
LMAO!!!!!!
Good luck tonight my Lancer Loving Lambert Licking Taylor Hating Loyalist!
werd up
EAT SH_T AND DIE YOU PATHETIC IDIOT.
the only things shining on amat tonight is the shiner notre dame is going to give them. werd up
Senarios
You're last example is incorrect, because if both Amat and Loyola lose, then no one has the second place finish.
Each team is 1-2 and, because each of those second place teams has both beaten one another, and has lost to one another, then it becomes a coin flip senario.
The best thing for us beside a win, is to see Loyola win, because here, there will be no three way tie for second.
Crespi would finish at 0-3 and at worst, we would get the at-large bid (assuming of course that it goes to the Serra league).
That would be Great with a Amat win, a coin flip and Amat getting the #1 Seed out of the Serra. Dont count on it..ND beats up on them tonite.
A Amat win and a Loyola Win.
Amat 2-1
ND 2-1
Loyola 2-1
Crespi 0-3
Coin flip for 1 seed and 2 seed. 3 seed most likely at large bid rep.
------------------------
Amat loss Loyola win
ND 3-0
Loyola 2-1
Amat 1-2
Crespi 0-3
At large bid possible for Amat. This could be good for Amat
-----------------------
Amat win and Loyola Loss
ND 2-1
Amat 2-1
Loyola 1-2
Crespi 1-2
Amat and ND in as 1 and 2 seed Loyola and Crespi try to get At large Bid.
-------------------------
Amat Loss and a Loyola loss to Crespi
ND 3-0
Loyola 1-2
Amat 1-2
Crespi 1-2
Loyola is the two seed based on beating Amat.
The other 2 teams can apply for at Large Bid with Amat holding the Ace based on beating Crespi already.
Best case for Amat is to win their game tonite and get in the playoffs as a 2 seed or a at large bid team or Loyola must beat Crespi so Amat can possibly get the at large bid.
Fred,
Another "coin-flip conundrum". Doesn't a Servite win against SJB create a 3-way tie in the Trinity? If THAT goes to a coin flip and Mater Dei is 3rd that creates a tough decision for the parings committee as well.
I'm pretty sure our numbers work out against OLu on the strength of head-to-head, and we come out on top against Servite too, but how about Mater Dei? We get a point for common opponents(OLu), and our league is rated ahead of theirs, but the Damien and Diamond Ranch records hurts our strength of schedule...whodda thunk?
Just have to win the games in front of you and let everything else work itself out.
i was in attendance at the co/bonita game. co's offense and speed were too much for bonita. i'd love to see a game between wc and co. for some reason, they remind me of one another, though co probably has more athletic guys. allen is really good and reminds me of duante culpepper with speed. bonita's offense wasn't unimpressive, it just didn't have the quick strike ability co's had. it was fun to see both teams. i'd like to know if anyone else in the stands felt as though bonita was a bit more organized. am i off base?
jorge
TOTAL BS!
I think that the bloggers got it right when they said that what is needed is a win by Loyola and not Crespi tonight, because a win by Crespi might create a three way tie for second place.
If Loyola loses their game, then how ironic would it be that Loyola could be the one team left out of the playoff picture.
Unfortunately, it could very well happen that way for them after tonight.
BTW, a blogger posted the possible playoff brackets the other day, and in his example, he had Amat playing in a game, in which if they won that first game, would set up a possible rematch with Notre Dame in the second round.
If that were the case, and you knew that that was a certainty, then, do you as a coach hold back on anything, knowing that you might get them down the road ?
That of course assumes that Amat gets into the playoffs of course.
I don't think so, but oh well, you never know right ?
For those that can't make it out to the Amat vs. Notre Dame game here is the LIVE INTERNET BROADCAST of the game:

GODSPEED LANCERS!!!!
ON BLUE!!!
Fred put the criteria down the other day.
Whoever is in second in the Serra is in the playoffs. The other two teams can petition for the at large berth. There is no third or fourth because places are not a part of the criteria of the playoffs.
Amat wants Loyola to win because it owns the big head to head tie breaker over Crespi. The Trinity might have a case for the at large but remember Amat beat their Champ O Lu and has a win over Crespi who beat Servite.
Amat my advice, Win.
WE LOVE YOU AMAT LANCERS!!!
SMASH THEM!!!
an amat loss and an crespi win would be a bad break for amat. that would make amat loyola and crespi 1-2 in league. wouldnt there be a coin toss for 2nd. and amat could finish 4th which means no playoffs. just wondering??
Weird Al Yankovic- Are you Serious? LOL The fact that you know the words to Amat's fight song is pretty sad. You must have been on a team that got beat by Amat so bad that you heard it over and over.
Now on to the game tonight. The Mighty Men of the Blue and Gold have made us very proud this year as they have all the other years. Amat tradition is strong let's keep it going and whatever happens tonight YOU are all Champions! AMAT WILL SHINE!!!
just discover the unsportsmen like conduct of the San Dimas High School football coaches after the Northview football game. They refuse to shake Andrew Rodriguiz hand after the game. What happen to role models?
Big game tonight for the Lancers. The Men of the Blue and Gold have made us very proud as have all our past Lancer teams have done . You will be remembered as the team that turned it around and brought back the glory. Have a great game and give it all you got.Regardless of the out come you all are champions, now go out there and prove all the people who say you can't wrong. Tonight is our night .AMAT WILL SHINE.

If Crespi beats Loyola, that is not good for Amat's playoff chances.
If Rosemead has ANY plans on a CIF run , it starts NOW !
RHS WILL WIN tonight & should take the next month one week @ a time .The Mid Valley playoffs are going to be FUN.
It's been 26 years since a CIF Football title @ RHS , I think this is the year we get another one .
I really wish them the best!
FIGHT ON
TM
Sorry Joe, in the mid 80's I was zeroed in on Edgewood soccer :)
It's a big hill to climb tonight , but the great thing is that kids believe themselves and the program...a 180° from a while back. For someone a while back who said that "tradition never put points on the board" probably never played in a school with tradition. Technically, of course they're right, but the return of that belief is worth something as soon as players step on the field. I know they'll do their best, and we hope that's good enough for a W. If not, that's all you can give and the Lancers should be proud.
What I do have to do is give props to Kevin Rooney, the coach at ND. They were looked at going into the year as the team that might be a little "down". So he went out and revamped his offense to this high-powered spread he's got and turned it around as well. It takes a lot of a successful experienced coach to change and it just shows that the great ones keep learning.
I still want someone to verify what I think I remember regarding Rooney being an applicant for the Amat job in the mid '80s when we hired Don Markham. His defensive coordinator, Joe Mcnab (who was at Chaminade at the time) was a name thrown around too. Rooney would have been in his early years at ND and for some reason I remember his name. Interesting tidbit.. and it sure worked out for both schools either way.
I'm just curious if I remember right... Freddy?
Anyway, best of luck to all and remember... On Any Given Friday!
COME-ON, SAN MARINO!!! Hey two years ago Monrovia beat AZUSA 55-8! OUCH!!!
In the first round of the CIF play-offs!
