Volleyball Top 10: Change has come

St. Lucy's defeats Diamond Bar on Tuesday to force a possible tie in the Sierra League

South Hills blocked Walnut from moving to the top of the rankings.
Tribune Top 10
Girls Volleyball
1. Diamond Bar (19-3)
Brahmas move up to the penthouse, but can they survive the jinx?
2. South Hills (15-4)
Huskies played one of their better matches of the season, rallying for a five-game victory over Walnut to move into a first-place tie in the San Antonio League.
3. Walnut (19-5)
The Mustangs were a point a way from all but securing an outright league title and moving up to the top of the rankings, then ....
4. Bonita (14-5)
The Bearcats have a tough week, facing Walnut tonight and then put first place on the line in the Miramonte League with a home match against hard-Charging Charter Oak on Thursday.
5. Glendora (15-3)
The Tartans drop four slots after what appeared like they were going through the motions before losing to St. Lucy's in four. The question is will they be rooting for their rival tonight?
6. Charter Oak (16-2)
The Chargers have been one of the area's most-improved units, and now they can earn a share of the Miramonte League title. All they have to do is beat Bonita at the Bearcats' cave.
7. St. Lucy's (16-9)
The thought of the Regents getting a piece of a league title seemed like a pipe dream two weeks ago, but a win tonight against Diamond Bar will give them a piece of the Sierra League pie.
8. Ganesha (18-6)
The Giants looked large in beating San Dimas in four games last week, which put Ganesha in a first-place tie with the Saints. Now the Giants need to take care of business this week.
9. San Dimas (15-4)
The Saints slumped against Ganesha, but they also need to take care of business this week to be co-champs with the Giants.
10. La Puente (20-1)
The Warriors completed their reign in the Montview League by sweeping former champ Gladstone. La Puente has given up just one game in league play.
Note: Rankings are based through matches played on Nov. 1

Bloggers-please list and comment on the CIF draws today. Then cheer Ganesha on to a CIF title! Ha! Don't doubt the mighty Giants in the Beanstalk!
Tough loss for the Tartans, but i beleive they can do well in CIF. They just need to get a little fire underneath them again and get motivated.
Randi is an awesome captain who holds the team together and she needs some help from the girls around her.
Congrats to DB and SL great seasons, and good luck in CIF.
Whoever recieves all valley honors, is very lucky to be mentioned. They're are many girls who could take that spot, but as we know only a few will get it.
TARA PRATER has to be the best outside in the area. She led St. Lucy's to the big wins against Glendora and Diamond Bar when they were ranked #1. In those two games, she had 21 and 16 kills. Combined, she had 37 kills in 64 attempts, that's a 57.8% kill rate against two great teams. When the season and the league championship were on the line, she performed. And remember her jump-serve.
My heart goes out the Glendora HS. They have a fine group of girls. Randi is a real leader and plays with alot of heart. I reallly thought this was a 3 way tie and nothing can go wrong. Just like GHigh said, this is a tough sport. Lots of luck to the Regents in the CIF....
Kelly is a redhead, it was Dimitruk that I was thinking of. Kelly is pretty good too.
OH's I think Momah stands out as well as Charter Oaks OH. Haven't seen South Hills, Bonita, Glendora, nor La Puente so i can't comment on their players.
I think the sister act from Walnut should deserve consideration (setter and RS). Those two really play awesome defense, and they seem to motivate their team.
Hopefully when they pick the All Area player of the year and the All Area Team they will factor in all that you said. Offense, Defense, Serving, Blocking, Leadership etc. are all important. Those players could be middles, OH, OPP, setters or liberos. Im not sure how many the Tribune selects, but they have their work cut out for them. There is no shortage of good players. I imagine most will come from the top ranked teams.
When you consider these players, keep in mind that you should consider all aspects of the game, not just their ability to hit the ball hard. Defense and ball handling has to come into play as well.
For OH, I would say Prater from SL's and Momah from DB are two of the best.
Re Gasparo, she is a very talented girl, but I agree with the question of her consistency. Seems like since she decided to not continue playing after this year, that she has not put the heart into her play. Really too bad because she could be at the top.
Congrats to south hills and walnut for earning #1 and #2 in the valley both great teams. And to the best front row(s.hills)and the best back row (walnut)in sgv you guys had a great regular season, and good luck in cif.
Isn't Kelly a red head? Dimitruk is the only blond MB I remember.
My daugther is on the list of mentioned MB's, and as biased as I might be for her, I can still say I think Melinda Gomez is the best middle I have seen out of the valley, and I have seen all of them on the list. She is a great combination of hitting, blocking and a smart player who knows how to read the court.
GHigh: I haven't seen Moreno play so I can't give an informed opinion.
Lots of great talent. What OH's would everyone pick?
Fan,
You may be right about Silva. They move her around quite a bit so she may have been playing some middle in that tournament.
GHigh: I believe you are thinking of Katie Kelly from Diamond Bar. She was in my top list.
Gasparo *can* be very good but inconsistent. She has really stepped up recently and I wish her much success.
To be honest I can't think of a MB that I've seen perform better than Moreno-she didn't play in the tournament because of a severely sprained ankle. I do think there are a lot of great middles though. My other favorite is the blond from Diamond Bar-great attitude and finishes almost every ball. Sorry, I don't know her name. Gasparo is a great blocker, and Callen is a great hitter (both St. Lucy's).
At Ganesha tournament I saw Walnut and Silva played MB. That may have been because Settergren was not playing. (Injury?)
Can non-seniors make all area? I really feel the ones I named are the best area MB's.
Silva for Walnut plays OH & Opp, not middle. Walnut's two middles are Sheller and Settergren.
The other middles you mentioned are strong as well. Interestingly enough many are Jr's.-Sheller, Gomez, La Pierre and Moreno are all jr.s. Callen is a sophmore.
Marcy Moreno could be a contender for player of the week and even 1st team all league for your league but I think you need to encompass the whole area.
For MB/MH you have Shellar/Silva from Walnut, Gomez/South Hills, La Pierre-Bonita, Callen-St. Lucy's, Kelly-Diamond Bar that in my eyes should be considered for the top contenders as best in the valley as MH/MB.
Just my opinion.
GHigh: I agree losing to Ayala should not be considered an embarrassment. The Bulldogs have worked hard and everyone saw improvement with each game.
Good luck to all in CIF
I don't think losing to Ayala should ever be considered an embarassment. This is a tough sport that requires nerves of steel so anything can happen.
I once again think Marcy Moreno from Ganesha should be considered for best player. 27 kills against San Dimas and then 19 Kills against Northview. I know she probably won't get it, but I thought she deserves being mentioned.
congratulations to St.Lucy's and Diamond Bar High Schools for claiming the Sierra League Championship. Re: last tuesday's DB vs St.Lucy's match at St.Lucy's, anytime the fans get this pumped up for a H.S. Volleyball match and the pride and passion of both teams is only great for our sport and the SGV Volleyball programs. Good luck to all involved in the upcoming playoffs.
who are "all" the players that were being touted as top players by the SGVT and are moving backward?
Fan,
I totally agree!
What going on with the tartans?
Brain shoulds not be player of the year, she's reall y stepped down in the second half of league.
If they're lucky she'll snap out of it and be ready for CIF.
That's a truely embarassing loss for Glendora and my heart goes out to those seniors who had league ripped from their hands.
Ayala beat Glendora. Wow. Just wow. I would not have thought that possible. I don't want to take anything away from Ayala but they are (were) in the rebuilding stages of their program after last year. What is going on with the Tartans. It looks like all the people who were being praised as the top players of the SGTV have gone completely backwards over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully top players are being reevaluated, (Especially from Diamond Bar and St. Lucy's)
Congratulations to Ayala Bulldogs. You played us hard last week.
Ganesha is graduating 9 seniors-great kids and students-but 5 impact players are coming back including both MB's, libero, and OH. We don't have depth, but we have quality.
Unbelievable! Glendora has completely imploded since losing to St. Lucy's. What happened? No way I would have predicted this outcome. Guess it makes the seedings easier.
coin flip for 1st or 2nd people Glendora is automatic 3rd place....good job Ayala Bulldogs!! Ayala might get a 4th place at-large berth bid for the playoff!!
Is glendora out of the playoffs!?!
I believe that would be true! Not a big vollyeball fan, just happened to be at the school and sat in on the game. I was told there was a 3 way tie at the beginning of the night but with Glendora losing that knocked them out of a first place tie.
So this means there is only a two way Tie between St Lucy's and Diamond Bar!!
Yes, it's true. I was at the game. Ayala DEFEATED Glendora.
Is it true? Did Ayala really beat Glendora in 5?
Bonita beats Charter Oak. Bonita undefeated league champs!!!!!!!!!
Ayala defeats Glendora in 5.
Diamond Bar wins in three over Chino Hills.
SL's beats Chino tonight in 3 for a piece of the Sierra league. Any other scores?
Interesting topic brought up about which programs are losing more seniors and more talent. I believe the libero for Glendora is a jr. with Brain So they are returning a nice group as well as St. Lucy's. Walnut is only losing 3 but one of which is player of the year candidate Jennifer Silva, she will be tough to replace. South Hills is losing a few seniors but is returning lots of power with Gomez and company. Bonita(losing Donaldson) and Los Altos are both very young and could be top teams next year. I expect another very competitive and great year for SGV volleyball next year.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves, we have some great teams capable of making some noise in the playoffs this year.
I know this is a volleyball blog. SGVT doesn't cover waterpolo so here. Walnut beat Rowland 11 to 8. That is 3 league title in a row. One other thing both the Walnut, and South Hill volleyball teams are great teams, and its to bad that we have to have a coin toss but Walnut goes in CIF as #1 seed from the SAL
No offense to Los Altos-they've had great teams and a strong program for years. The problem is why make suppositions about how other teams would have done? It's like Diamond Ranch's football schedule-losing is still losing. Now that tough schedule should help you in the playoffs. I haven't seen a Los Altos team in like 7 years, I just know that Ganesha can compete and will continue to compete.
That said-we beat Northview in three to secure a league co-championship with San Dimas. We won the coin toss so we will be hosting on Tuesday.
Good luck to all teams from the area. If Los Altos, or any team from the area, wins CIF I will be the first one to congratulate.
Of the 8 St. Lucy's seniors, only 5 are starters. Biggest loss is going to be Prater and our two setters Shuman and Mercado. We have plenty of hitters so someone will step up into Prater's shoes and Macy is our freshman setter with a good setter on JV as well. JV also has several very good defensive specialists that will make the team even better than this year. Callen and Dalton will be on their third year on varsity so they bring plenty of experience to bear. SL's will be tough next year and will be in the best position to repeat as league champs.
DB will have the toughest time. All their starters are seniors. Just about all of Glendora as well with the exception of Brain.
St. Lucy's is returning starters outside hitter Deanna Dalton, Middle Blocker Megan Callen and RS Carly Miller. Plus notable mentions Jackie Macy as setter and Alyssa Young as middle blocker. That's a pretty strong returning frontline.
Here is something to start thinking about.
How many seniors are graduating in each team:
Bonita 5
St Lucys 8
Walnut 3
Los Altos 4
Diamond Bar 7
Charter Oak 10
San Dimas ___
Ganesha 9
Glendora ____
Looks like Bonita and Los Altos are going to beat up on each other next year.
St. Lucys has players to spare.
Beware of WALNUT!!!!!
Diamond Bar is alway one team to year after year is tough.
Charter Oak will end up like Wilson.
Bonita, Club West will have the juniors ready to go.
Dont know about the others.
I have said it before, Los Altos is an underated team. Don't let their win/loss record fool you. They have lost to some tough teams. I believe they are a better team then a couple at the bottom of the top 10.
The pairings last year did a good job of keeping the two leagues apart, but #1 San Antonio SH's was matched up with Sierra at-large DB, so we could see a similiar pairing this year. We will run into each other eventually. Should be exciting. I would love a rematch against Walnut or South Hills!
Ghigh,
With that said how good of a record would La Puente, Charter Oak, Ganesha, and San Dimas have if the played Los Altos Schedule.
Lets see they played:
Walnut (1)
South Hills (2)
Bonita (2)
Los Osos (2)
St. Lucys (1)
Diamond Bar (1)
Im not saying los altos is perfect or anything like that. Im first to say that they had many issues at the start, but even still went 5 with St. Lucys, Diamond Bar and Bonita.
With all that said and done, Los Altos still came out in 2nd place with Charter Oak in league.
As a Glendora Mom I think the St Lucy's Fans were very respectful and sportsman like. They showed class when they beat us, and when we beat them. However, when we played DB in thier house, not so classy.
I will stop there.
True-we didn't have many tough non tournament matches. Any competitive teams want to come to Pomona to play the Great Wall of Mexico? To be honest, not many takers. This is why we play in the maximum amount of tourneys, and why coach put us up against St. Lucy's in our own tournament. Maybe if we continue to be competitive stronger teams will play us, but right now that's not the case. Remember, we are in a lower division than all of the teams in the SGV that are ranked and La Puente is two divisions below that. Smaller schools that are successful deserve some recognition, but we know our place-which is WAY ABOVE Los Altos!
and I predict one of you Sierra leaguers will get a San Antonio league team in the first round. It should be a great match if it happens.
CIF volleyball pairings will be released Nov. 9th at 12:00PM, 12:15PM, 12:30PM, etc. by division 1-3 respectively.
You're right G High I reread your post-league losses
Tournaments at times are like summer league. Many times you are missing a girl or two or even more. Not only that, many times they play two or two out of three matches.Along with that, they are there all day, sometimes 10 to 12 hours.
With that said, Ganesha, San Dimas and La Puente without tournament play have only played teams like:
South El Monte
Nogales
Workman
Arroyo
Basset
Covina
Rowland,
West Covina
Northview
ETC.
Can you honestly say that any of the mentioned teams can be considered volleyball schools. Any of them going to playoffs?
Charter Oak might have played one or two decent teams (one of those being tournament play), but nothing compared to the TOP 5 ranked teams or Los Altos.
DB has never been to the playoffs? Where did you get that info? They have gone the last two years for sure and many other before that.
yeah, me too, me too... (sigh)...
Go Regents: I agree with you on that....you gotta understand Diamond Bar has never been in the playoffs so they dont't know how bad it gets. I'm still trying to understand how we lost on 10/16/2008. It would of been a 2 way tie.
I said Estancia's only "league" losses are to Laguna Beach. We did lose to St. lucy's and Canyon as well in our tourney-all good teams. We were missing players due to injury, including the MB who had 27 kills against San Dimas, but no excuses-losing to those teams does not make a weak schedule. My point being that to promote your program (Los Altos) you don't have to cut others down just because you want to be ranked on this blog.
In terms of the St. Lucy's game-the gym is simply very small and none of those problems would have occurred in a bigger venue, but that also adds to the excitement. The drama was great from a spectators point of view-I didn't notice anything that out of the ordinary. Not exactly a friendly rivalry, but fun to watch.
The Home Court Advantage is huge-Ganesha's only losses at home were in our tournament.
Good luck to everybody today, Sunday, and next week.
This is definitely a DB parent trying to stir the pot. Both sides were loud and trash talking, but I did not hear profanity from either side. It was spirited and raucous at times, but no means un-Christian. Better get use to it because CIF will be far worse.
The refs stopping the game was ridiculous. The guys behind the bench were not causing any problems. There was no place else for them to stand. It was ironic that they didn’t do anything about the DB fans sitting on the floor in front of the stands.
St. Lucy’s fans, do not get pulled down into this negativity. We need to be loud and pumped up for next Tuesday. Go Regents!
Ganesha lost to SL at the Ganesha tournament.
G high, Estancia has to have more non league losses than just to Laguna Beach. They lost to Walnut at your tournament and probably to somebody else as well.
Gotta love the St. Lucy's bloggers. They always bring the drama. Even when the team is winning we have controversy. Thank you for keeping this blog interesting.
Diva,
St. Lucy's gym is significantly smaller than most gyms. Traditionally, fans are not seated behind the players in general. That is always a recipe for some disruption.
I agree with the other bloggers and am surprised that you are using this forum rather than a more effective means of communication.
These are the higher standards I hold myself too. Loyalty to the school and respect for the fans and players involved.
I think it is disgusting that parents use this blog as a dear diary page instead of being a responsible parent of the school.
Stop being a virus, use the proper channels (the school administration, the coach or even be a leader and call a parent meeting). Nothing good can ever come out of calling players out in a local newspaper unless you have other vindictive motives. I think you need to examine the definition of Christian. Because persecuting a child in public is not very Christian like.
I think Diva is most appropriate. This is nothing more than gossip and malice.
It is interesting that we scream at our girls to kill the ball, be aggressive, dig the ball, engrave Mikasa on someone's forhead, etc. But make sure you act like a lady and oh my, the horrible girl said a cuss word at a volleyball game. What will my tennis partner at the country club think if this gets out.
Women's sports has evolved so much and yet the double standard continues. How many times have we seen in men sports (tennis, volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, hockey, etc) where these same incidents happen and worse. (Even at private Christian schools).
I am not saying that is protocal or that it gets the stamp of approval for standard behavior. But in high pressure games, emotions run high and stuff happens. The referees handled the situation and it was done. No need to cause additional embarrassment by trying to make a statement.
As for JV and Damien behavior, well, there is a funny thing called karma. The younger Diamond Bar fans were pretty bad at their home and so was Glendora. You did not hear a ST. Lucy's fan complain about it because that is what happens at sporting events. It is up to the referees and coaches or even school administration to get involved.
Thank you JV and Damien for supporting us in our quest for league title. We really needed the support.
Shame on traitor diva if you are a SL fan (doubtfully) for selling out a player in a public forum. But the way that blog is written, I agree with the previous blogger that this is a DB Diva.
S. Hills plays Los Altos twice in their non league games. Walnut plays Bonita twice.
My St. Lucy's girls do play with heart, I'm just sad you equate heart to profanity and obsenity. All those delay of games due to the SL fans was embarassing! I don't recall any delay of game to due the DB fans. I enjoy a good game just like any parent, I guess I just hold my stanards for conduct a little higher.
I can't imagine "Diva" is a St. Lucy's parent....This is obviously a Diamond Bar parent.
I think our JV and Damien boys acted similar to the Diamond Bar crowd. It was nice to finally have support from the JV and Damien Boys. Did they get a little crazy? Sure. But I would take a rowdy crowd than no crowd anyday.
No St. Lucy's fan would be traitor enough to say show class like Diamond Bar. I sat next to them and I am not sure class is the word I was thinking of when I think Diamond Bar but at the same time it is a sport and they have a good crowd. I expect both crowds to get crazy and support there team. I think both crowds did their duty and I have no problem with either crowd.
As for picking on the Libero?? I don't recall that as much as I recall Gasparo appearing out of thin air and arguing with the referee and incidently kicking the volleyball. Oh yeah and the yellow card... But again, it is a sport. I will take the yellow card anyday if our girls our playing with heart. And I thought Gasparo and the #23 (libero) played with a lot of heart and I will take that anyday. And if an occasional oops slips out than that happens.
I think it's time to take off the tiara and understand the world of sports. This is a competition not a catwalk. Grow up.
St. Lucy's / Diamond Bar game was certainly exciting. However, as a St. Lucy's fan I was embarassed and disgusted by the way our JV girls and the Damien boys shouted profanity and obsenities at the D-Bar players. I was ashamed to be associated wtih a 'Christian" school that behaved so poorly. Even our libero #23 shouted the F-word at the ref and fans when the ball was clearly called in and fair. Go Regents! But hopefully, try to finish off your season with class & dignity the way DBar does.
I'd like to reiterate that Charter Oak's preseason schedule, as well as Ganesha's, was not weak. Charter Oak beat Westridge in 4 at the Gladstone tourney, Bonita lost to Westridge in 4 last night. Ganesha has only lost to ranked teams or teams in upper divisions. We competed well against Estancia while missing two starters, and Estancia's only league losses are to a school called LAGUNA BEACH!
Good luck to all in playoffs and tonight. Should be a barnburner against Northview-we're playing for a league championship and they are playing for 3rd to keep out of a deciding match against Covina on Friday.
Walnut game agains SH was a great match. It could have went ether way. I would put them 1 and 1. Walnut did play #3 Bonita
and beat them twice. Who did South Hill play in their non-leage game.
Interesting,
Diamond Bar beats SL and Glendora at home
SL beats Glendora and Diamond Bar at home
and
Glendora beats SL and Diamond Bar at home.
Perhaps the Sierra League should consider winning on the road before CIF begins.
LA Parent: If you are worried about a blog ranking maybe you should play an "easier" preseason schedule.
Good luck in CIF-try not to overlook anyone.
volleyballfollower and GHIGH go on to the MAXPREP website and compare the the Schedules of Los Altos and San Dimas, Ganesha, Charter Oak, and La Puente.
If you notice the top five teams are beating each other up and Los Altos played all of them teams in preseason (and los osos) and went five more then 1 or 2 teams.
How many games do you think La Puente, Ganesha, San Dimas and Charter Oak could have won if they had Los Altos schedule. hmmm...
And for the reason volleyballfollower you are right, beware of this third place team.
vbl fan,
don't get crazy with putting Los Altos back in the top 10 this is just one win. There was no reason for them to loose as they were, they have more fire power then most schools in the SGV and as I said it before don't play the youth card either.
Teams should not over look this third place team. I bet the top seeded teams will be watching come the draw and this third place team comes up. It will be interesting.
I may be wrong but I think they only seed the top 4 in the playoffs after that it is luck of the draw, so the bottom 6 of the CIF rankings are pretty much inconsequential. Although they still try to matchup a 3rd place team with a 1st place team. Also I dont think you can play a league opponent in the first two rounds so they have to space them out.
1. REV- really good.
2. south torrance- weak league but played well in tough tournaments
3. bishop montgomery- again weak league but solid tournament showings.
4. cdm - loss to beckman keeps them out of top 3.
5. South Hills- coming on strong late.
6. Corona/Santiago - both recently lost to Roosevelt. Winner of the match thursday should be here.
7. Glendora- better showing at ayala gives them the edge over lucys.
8. Corona/Santiago loser.
9. St. Lucy's
10. Riverside Poly or Diamond Bar
University/Walnut/Beckman and Roosevelt just on the outside looking in.
Confused, you are right to be confused. That division is going to be tough. The top 4 may get byes. The last couple of years the 1st place San Antonio league team(Sout Hills) has played the number 3 Sierra league team (Diamond Bar) in the first round. Who knows if that will continue. The coin tosses to decide those leagues will be somehwat important. Looking at the other leagues in division 2 there are no easy teams. I think the best draw for anyone first round maybe West Covina (San Antonio 3rd place team). The last couple of years Walnut has matched up with Corona Santiago in the first round. That league (Big 8) is pretty stacked this year, Im not sure any of the locals want that draw. Bottom line is most local teams in division 2 will face tough 1st round opponents, maybe even eachother.
Any predictions on CIF 2AA playoff seedings? going to be madness! Of course the top 4 are solidy in place (REV, south, bishop and cdm) but after that there are 11 teams pretty solid. Glendora/Lucys/DB, University/Beckman, Corona/Santiago/Poly /Roosevelt, South Hills/Walnut. Someone figure out this mess and give me a top 10!
my list would read
1. S. Hills
2. Walnut
3. St. Lucy's (Tied for 3rd in the Sierra league)
4. Diamond Bar
5. Glendora
6. Bonita
7. Ganesha
8. San Dimas
9. Los Altos
10. Charter Oak/ La Puente
The Charter Oak-Bonita game will impact the rankings. Does Chino Hills or Ayala have a shot on Thursday of splitting up this tie in the Sierra league?
Vball Fan,
I agree it was great to see the setters mix it up more last night. They tend to rely too much on the go-to players. As DB started to rally in the 3rd and 4th game, I was concerned we were going to see a repeat of first matchup. SL's defense was able to step up when it counted. Callen was on fire last night and was unstoppable on her hits off the net. She was able to get some critical points late in the set. No mention in the Tribune article.
It was great to see them pull together and overcome the late surge. They really played as an entire unit. Still some gaps in defense that DB did a good job of exploiting, but they can clean it up for CIF.
Also very nice to see the huge turnout from all the fans. Even saw some Ganesha players / coach. Thanks for your support!
St. Lucy's congratualations on finishing strong.
Your patch will say.."SIERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS"...not TIED FOR 1ST THRU 3RD....LOL
That person is amusing. Enjoy the laugh at their expense.
REGENTS!!!!!!!! Big Props to the coaches!
For CIF seeding-in the Valle Vista league we have a coin flip when it's a tie, and I'm pretty sure that's what all leagues do unless it's to qualify.
In terms of momentum I like Ganesha's chances-9-0 since our first loss to San Dimas.
Charter Oak's schedule wasn't that weak AND they won a strong Gladstone tournament by beating Gabrielino (Gabrielino is better than last year and they beat Los Altos in CIF last year). Don't count out the Chargers, they have a great group of Seniors and a tough defense.
The St. Lucy's match was great. Miller's sideline dive was the play of the match in my opinion. I think DB and St. Lucy's could set their Middles more, but the outsides are pretty awesome on both teams.
Vbll fan, Not sure Bonita has momentum after last night . Also, to clarify, I have never mentioned anyting negative about St. Lucy's or their players(or any program for that matter). My comment was simply that you may have to deal with the reality of finishing 2nd or 3rd in the Sierra league. Which has turned out to be somewhat true. You tied for 1st thru 3rd. You guys have done a great job in the second half of league and are to be commended.
My list would read:
1) South Hills
2) Walnut
3) Bonita
4) St. Lucy's
5) Diamond Bar
6) Glendora
7) Charter Oak
8) Ganesha
9) San Dimas
10) La Puente
Momentum is everything. South Hills, Bonita and St. Lucy's all seem to have that right now.
Hope after all of this, St. Lucy's finally deserves some respect. I have read many blogs from a, vbl, etc, indicating maybe Glendora and Diamond Bar had better players, SL should settle for second or they shouldn't be in the top 10. SL proved there players are just as talented and definitely belongs in the top 10. Not an easy feat to work your way from the bottom up. To take a beating the way they had, swallow their pride and put it all on the line, is a true definition of a champion.
As I predicted 3 weeks ago, SL players, coaching, teamwork had been coming together and had the chance to be the co-Sierra League champs. They didn't let me down. Aguilera had a great game in defense, Mercado had one of her best games as a setter and they finally started setting Callen who is one of the more powerful middle girls in the area. I saw 9 or 10 kills. (I still would like to see them set Gasparo more). It was a great game and nice to see St. Lucy's finally playing as a team and changing things up a bit. They utilized all their players and their old faithfuls (Dalton, Prater & Miller), mixed it up with some good old fashioned defense (Shueman and Aguilera) and Callen and Gasparo protecting the net.
One of the better games of the year. (Walnut/South Hills) game last week a little better. Good luck in CIF.
Where should St. Lucy's be ranked now? They are surging. I wonder if they move ahead of the rest of the Sierra league teams in the Top 10. Bonita looks like they got worked by Walnut last night but they still won their league. Do they stay ahead of the Sierra league teams? They did beat Glendora. Los Altos may rejoin the Top 10 now too.
Does anyone know how ties work out for CIF seeding?
Charter Oak is a good team, but does not have the fire power that los altos, bonita or any of the top ranked teams have. Their setter and libero are very good along with one of the middles and one of the outside. Best of luck in the playoffs.
Charter Oak had played weak teams through out the preseason, and played los altos without their starting setter which is why they looked good on paper. However head to head they where no match for los altos.
Last night was Senior night for Chater Oak, They are graduating 10 out of the 12 varsity players.
On the other hand Los Altos at one point had all sophmores and 1 junior in the court.
The Los Altos win over Charter Oak gives Bonita the outright title. That ruins my tie in every league theory.
As stated below! Los Altos beat Charter Oak last night.
Charter Oak is good, but i dont think they can beat Bonita. Lets see how they do against Los Altos, The last time they played, Los Altos had their setter out ill. Bonita and Los Altos both have some serious fire power, TOUGH WEEK for Charter OAK.

Los Altos won in five. It was a great match, a great team win by Los Altos. Macias,Owens,Nazeroff, and Russell really stepped up.
I told you guys all along the San Antonio league was the toughest most talented league. ;)
Los Altos won in 4.Charter Oak has not played well there last few games.I dont expect too much from this team unless they start to play with more heart. After there loss to Bonita this Team has not been the same.If They can beat Bonita Thursday maybe they can carry that momentum into the playoffs.
That was a quick stay at number 1 for DB. I guess we are back to S. Hills(1) and Walnut(2). Wasn't that the way the season started? Full circle.
south hills better watch out for john muir...there making a lot of noise comming into the playoffs....

Congratulations Regents. Dalton, Prater, Callen, Gasparo, Mercado, Shuman, Miller, Aguilera & Aguilera. You ladies played with so much heart and showed everyone how talented you are.
Thank you coach Sean for sticking with this crazy team and believing in us.
Who won the Charter Oak vs Los Altos game
last nights St.Lucy's vs DB match was what a high school league contest should be all about. Fans on both sides exhorting their respective teams to push farther, the players playing their hearts out. Whew, I love H.S. volleyball. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.
JINX!
Steve you are about 4 for 4 the last few weeks. Can you just start the rankings at 2? These poor teams, you are ruining them.
Congrats to St. Lucy's. Now we just need a CO win to complete the Co-Champ run of all the leagues.
ST. LUCY'S WINS! ST LUCY'S WINS! ST. LUCY WINS!
The girls played fantastic! Hats off to DB. You guys played a great match.
Glendora fans, You are welcome!!!
See you all in CIF!
Walnut's win over Bonita was fairly easy 25-11, 25-18, 26-28, 25-17.
Walnut beat Bonita in 4.
Listen to Walnut vs South Hill game from last week on sportsnetusa.net.
St. Lucy's wins in four. No quit in the Brahmas-all of the games were close. Hard to say which team is better on any given night. Good luck to both in playoffs-will it be a three team coin flip to decide who gets 1st?
I hope so too, but then again, playing at St Lucy's with those roudy fans!?..lol.. if you see no results in the next hr, go to Dbhs.org, and click then click volleyball
sl wins in 4
Patrick, i hope your wrong like you were last time haha
Word on street...St Lucy's won!
anyone know the score of DB vs. St. Lucy's?
#11 is a cutie!!!
i go to school with her
:]
If the Regents win then the struggles should make it even sweeter-and you are getting better when it counts. Diamond Bar is a strong team and they are very close knit. Should be fun to watch. Bonita and Charter Oak should also be a blast.
Hopefully the Lady Giants will stay strong this week. We'd like to get to twenty wins before CIF starts, and a share of the league title would be nice too.
This game can go either way. It would be nice if the Regents can get a share of that pie. Good luck ladies.....GO REGENTS!
