Girls Soccer: Your thoughts & observations

Above: Los Altos' Lauren Stupin (blue) battling for the ball against Charter Oak in last season's game.
When the football games are finished and we're done selecting the all-area fall teams, I'll zero in on girls soccer, one of the big blog items last year. For now I'll post a weekly thread so you can discuss what's going on. In our pre-season poll, blogger SGV Dad took his shot at re-ranking the teams after the first week. I'll post it just how he wrote it. You can also help by posting scores, tournament results and so forth.
SGV Dad says
Re-ranking the top 10 will not be easy this year. But I will give it a shot.
1) St. Lucy's - Best collection of players
2) Los Altos - Big win against La Mirada
3) Glendora - Second best collection of players.
4) South Hills - Tough start
5) Walnut - put here because of past accomplishments, have no new info
6) Bishop Amat - Coach just won second consecutive Jr college championship
7) Charter Oak - Like new coach should show good this year
8) Diamond Ranch - Like their goalies
9) Bonita/Northview/San Dimas - ??

I did not see the game. Great result for San Dimas.
I attempted to re-rank the teams on Monday but held off because some teams aren't reporting all their results. Here is what I was going to post.
Couple of big games could be rained out this week.
St. Lucy’s vs Walnut and Upland, Glendora vs La Salle, Los Altos vs La Habra and South Hills vs San Dimas.
How is the San Dimas tournament going, any reports.
1) St. Lucy's – Tough games scheduled this week
2) Charter Oak – Big win over Glendora
3) South Hills – no new info
4) Bishop Amat – undefeated so far
5) Glendora – Struggling right now, would like to see them play La Salle
6) San Dimas – Good Start, tied Charter Oak
7) Los Altos – only two loses to good teams
8) Walnut – Not the same team they used to be
9) Diamond Bar – Lots of potential here
10) Diamond Ranch – not enough info to rank or drop out of top 10
* After yesterdays San Dimas result I would move South Hills out of the top 5 and replace them with San Dimas.
OK SGV Dad, did you see the South Hills/san Dimas game tonight? Who won? Oh, thats right - it was 1-0 Saints. Any questions?
Saints looked great this weekend and tied both Chaffey and Charter Oak who have beaten them in the past. They currently have over half the team scoring goals which will make it hard for any defense to mark the "shooters." Watch out for freshman Jeanette Jimenez, she is a great player and should put in four strong seasons for San Dimas.
FYI, Los Altos had two of their starting fullbacks out with injuries and their keeper (who has been playing great this year) has a back injury. Supposedly she is not going to play at all this week!
That being said, Bishop beats us even if we're healthy. They are flat out a better team
Amat 3 Los Altos 0
Bishop Amat outhustled and outplayed our LA girls yesterday. Good defense by Amat and no offense by LA = impressive win for Amat. IMO - Amat has alot of good young talent and should make some noise this year.
Bishop Amat 3 (4-0-1)
Los Altos 0 (5-2-0)
All three Amat goals were from corner kicks. 1 was headed in and the other two were scored directly from the corner. Amat defense played awesome limiting Los Altos to 1 or 2 shots on goal. Los Altos defense also played well limiting the Amat attack. Los Altos simply gave up to many corner kick opportunities to Amat.
Big game this afternoon! Bishop Amat at Los Altos! Not sure if you have a reporter available Fred, but this would be a great early game to cover!
well, at least the other Los Altos football team is lookin good this season
Wow all of this talk about Covina and they have not even played anyone. According to Maxpreps they have played Sierra Vista and tied West Covina 1-1, a team that San Dimas beat 10-0. If Covina is the team to beat tell Coach Nagata to start posting her scores. San Dimas is still the team to beat in the Valle Vista - they are the league champs. Covina while much improved under the coaching of Coach Nagata will not surprise anyone this year. Baldwin Park is off to a fast start but playing the "Glastone's" of the valley will not prepare them for league. Northview has played above their heads by playing in the La Mirada Tournament but they did come away with a win and so far has played the toughest pre-league schedule (check it out on Maxpreps). Sources say that Khalalah Todd will be much improved by the time league starts and the Vikings are developing other weapons while she is getting back into shape. It will be intersting to see how San Dimas plays in their tournament this weekend. And I went to the La Mirada Tournament this past weekend to see Los Altos play and they are legitimate contenders for a league title and should make a run deep into CIF.
baldwin park??? are you kidding me? maybe their boys soccer has a chance but their girls are in for a trampling. those girls better be ready when its time to play the colts. these girls are for real this year.
I disagree that covina is the real team from the valle vista. Keep your eyes on Baldwin Park H.S. They are going to surprise many! YOU'LL SEE!!!
So far the LA girls are looking good. This is a young team beaming with talent. Yesterday they defeated west covina 3-0! So far they are 5-1, there only lost was to a very tough Pacifica team at the La Mirada HS soccer tournament championship game.
im sorry. in my earlier post i said they play charter oak this thursday. they dont. they play nogales on thursday and charter oak the following monday.
i dont know if you guys have seen these teams play but northview is definitely not a top ten team. their superstar kalalah todd got hurt last season and just isnt the same anymore. there is a freshman starting in her place. the real team from the valle vista is covina. they've started the season 2-0-1 and they take on charter oak this thursday and it should be a shootout. kepp your eye on the colts as this is their year for stardom.
