Comments

A couple of things: Bowens was deserving of honorable mention, if you know AMAT he missed most of the season with an injury and was just okay during the year. Only 1 lineman made all league this year, DJ will hold it down for AMAT in a down year (anyone really close knows this) in 2009. To all of you kids who worked hard in spite of your parents good luck next year. Bottom line grades get you in to college so hopefully some of you will get to a college of choice and be able to walk on and play football.

J Bowden I'll do that. Best of luck to him. Je's a good example of a player who was all world as a soph, pretty good as a junior and then gained too much weight as a senior and blew what could have been. JBowden I'm sure you'll agree it went too fast. Never really appreciate the comment you made about "they know who's best" but like I said before, best of luck to Chris. Lose the weight, get quicker and I'll be the first to say I was wrong. You're a MLB. Get back to that position becasue that's the only one you can play. And that's not an insult just a fact.

The City of AZUSA is proud of you RAULEY ZARAGOSA.

Great Job and it's been a long time since a player from AZUSA has made all area valley league! Good luck to you after you graduate.

AZTEC PRIDE!

TM;

I wouldn't worry about these boy's trying to put your post down.

I'll put money on the only thing they ever did at a football field, was a buy a bowl of NACHOS at half time! WITHOUT JALANPENOS...

TROJANS! NEWS YEAR DAY BABY!

Trojan Man

Get a lobatomy!

ONE of the best in the State . Not THE BEST .But I would venture to say he would START on MOST teams , maybe not @ RB , but SOMEWHERE !

Michelin Man

If your a fan he (Chris)appreciates your support. If not! Oh well. All I can say is stay tuned for the next chapter. It would be an honor for him to coach along side Bogan; but, thats not part of the plan. Where ever he lands and plays I hope your man enough to come back on here and admit you were wrong. I doubt it though you still hide behind a screen name.

TM best in the State?

Are you drinking again?

Hyperbole. Look it up.

Great to see Hunter getting the "Kudos" he deserves!

Hunter Warren makes All-Area honorable mention but, doesn't make all-league? Hmmmm...politics! Go HUNTER!!!!

ANYBODY questioning the reason why Tra Sumler is an SGV TRIBUNE ALL VALLEY pick should question WHY they are football fans . He was not only one of the best in the SGV but probably one of the best in the state.

"undersized linebacker"on a bad wheel...6'1"235+ is undersided?

come on which is it?

next thing you're going to tell me is chris at 70% is better than whoever played there when he was injuried.

maybe that mentality is why you got beat in overtime

jbowden. i saw him get handled all night. he was fat and out of shape. if he had come in at 6'1" 205 from day one he would have been a monster. he wasn't. he was a bad wheeled 70% who should not have been out there and should have made all area. that was a reputation gift based on what he should have accomplished. I got news for you he won't start at MSAC because he's fat. going into your senior year you need quickness at the next level and not pudgey, didn't stop eating in the summer chuncky. sorry he's the only player on here that doesn't get an honest evealuation. look at the film again. he got man handled. too bad you can't see it. now why did you think he needed to be moved around for nayone's benefit when he's a mlb from jump street since forever. it was a mistake to play dline. he was terrible there. chris is a mobile late hitter at the d end position he was a truck. sorry but that's what i saw. seeing in your living room won't change things one bit. i expect to see chris helping bogan coaching the defense next year, that's here he belongs. the mind was always there for the game but his body never was and that's a fact

Michelin Man

You obviously dont know your butt from a hole in the ground; or, the difference between a nickle or dime package. I know for a fact Bowden started the season at 6'1" 225. His coaches were excited about his season because they wanted to move him around in the defensive alignment. They knew he would be a formidable apponient and with his athletisizm and strength they could move him (Bowden) around to their benefit. I'm sure Bogan and Rios know more about this than you do. Yes when he came back after four weeks he had gained 10 pounds but when he came back he was still only 70%. Nothing was going to keep him from suiting up for that finale game. When you can find the heart to perform injured as he did at his level then you can come on here and talk smack. In the mean time I've got the film of the DR vs. SH game. Why dont you come on over and you can show me where an undersized linebacker with a bad wheel got beat all night long.
Happy Holiday

Bowden got his lunch against DR. Too slow. Too fat. And to top it off he blew it as a Senior instead of coming in shape and quicker and playing LB as an agile, mobile and hostile machine he came in overweught and puffy.

Bad move.

Huskie Fan

I agree watch # 34 Barrera from South Hills. Watch him get run over like a tackling dummie. I've said this before. Although tenacious he is no Bowden or Goss. He lacks Bowdens size and ability to read and anticipate. He lacks Goss's speed and tackeling ability. Maybe if he grows 2 inches and gains 20 pounds he might be worth a look.

All the years posting in the tribune all-league first team, second team etc; why don't you imspire the future players by listing all-league academic players. That would be something to see and would'nt that look great on a college application. A great athelic well thats something, but a smart one what an accomplishment. Can't help to wonder exactly how many names would be on the list from each school.

boo-hoo....covina is now doing what all the other schools do to get players....playing your game now, if that is true...

tell c.i.f. to check up on northview, charter oak, diamond ranch, etc.....

Freddy,

Why does Tre Sumler, who was given the Player of the Year for the West SGV get recognized by the Tribune as well? Wouldn't that position have been better used by giving it to Johnson, Canada or Barbone? Just seems a little unfair.

CO FAN;

WHY DON'T YOU TAKE SOME SPECIAL ED CLASSES, YOU MORON...

AZUSA AZTECS...

Willie jackson!

Your a fluken joke!

AZTEC PRIDE!

Ok ... Why is Adam Muema the team rb when Wilson's Tim Gilmore is a way better player ??

isnt amat losing a lot of players this year? might be a down year for them next year. werd up

Fred, I apologize for the bonehead remark I'm the bonehead for resorting to name calling, please forgive me.I just felt my son didn't get the recognition he deserved through out the year and I guess I was taking it out on you. Here I am trying to teach my son to be a good man and instead I lowered my standards a bit.I could learn a lot about humility by watching him!As for inflated stats not in this case.He had at least 3 sacks that weren't credited to him. Also in another game he got 18 tackles and got credit for 4 but oh well if it doesn't bother him it shouldn't bother me.I told you I could learn a lot from him!Good job Fred.

IMWTK -you said you wanted a little healthy discussion, so after I answered, I asked 4 questions. what is defensive about anything I wrote?

IMWTK

You started off by asking him a question.

The question was:

"Please enlighten me with an honest decent dissertation about how and when will Bishop Amat again be King of the Valley?"

He answered you.

Then you asked another question.

He answered you again.

Maybe it was'nt what you were expecting, but he gave you an answer.

Now you want to know how he is affiliated to Amat, and next you will no doubt want to know what the name of his gold fish are.

Perhaps it will not end there as I am certian you will soon ask him another stupid question.

reality czech,

Your always so dawn sensitive and take everything so personally. Quit being so defensive! My point exactly so stop always defending Bishop Amat! You've are already "competitive" in one of the best leagues and the best division. How about being gracious and humble instead? As quickly as everything turned for the worse for Bishop Amat everything can and is turning for the better. So many people hate you on this blog and I'm trying to show that maybe your misunderstood and your just very protective of Bishop Amat and here is my BIG QUESTION of the day. What is your relationship with Bishop Amat? Maybe if you told everybody how your so close and connected with the Lancers people would respect your position better. What gives homeboy?

IMWTK-Wouldn't you say that playing on the last day of the regular season for a league crown is "competing" for a league title? If, during the regular season you defeat the preseason #2 and #3 team in the Pac5, wouldn't you say you are "competing"? Or if the preseason #1 and eventual champion needs a 4th down conversion to beat you in the final couple minutes-aren't you already pretty close to "competing" for a CIF Championship? What do you think?

reality czech,

You didn't answer my question though because I do not disagree with your assessment of being the best team in the Valley but HOW and WHEN will you be able to compete for a league and C.I.F. Championship?

IMWTK-Amat always was, is and always will be the "King of the Valley" just by definition. No need to go any further to be KoV. Many other posters have already stated that we are in D1 because we are expected to compete at that level, and that we should be able to beat the SGV schools because they are in D7 for a reason. You said it - not me. and it's the truth. Sorry-sometimes the truth hurts. Even when we were down - we were probably the best team in the SGV head-to-head.
You saw a prime example in the Notre Dame/Hawaii Poinsettia Bowl. Little Hawaii with the gaudy non-BCS record(read D7 power) plays middle of the BCS pack Notre Dame and gets DESTROYED!
D7 is to the Pac5 as non-BCS schools are to the BCS.
So we are already the "supreme"team(your words) in the SGV, whether we play in December or not.

reality czech,

Please enlighten me with an honest decent dissertation about how and when will Bishop Amat again be King of the Valley? I seriously want to hear your insight to this process of rebuilding the Lancers and how soon you will reign as supreme team and be playing in December in the playoffs? Your always so quick to defend and attack depending on your mood but for once please inform us with an intellectual perspective on your beloved team. You will have zero creditability if you choose to not participate in a healthy discussion and that will leave Amat 73 and of course Joe Amat as the only two valued supporters as reputable.

Top Dawg,

That's how H.S. football is supposed to be played.

Not...ra ra for the neighborhood school! Go local high school...yay!!

Do you think that AAL the players from LB Poly are from Long Beach, or the poly 'side' of Long Beach?

Do you really think that all the kids at Hart are from Newhall?

Do you think that all the Mission Viejo kids are reall from M.V.?

Let me tell you something, I had teamates from Montebello, Diamond Bar, Baldwin Park, Chino Hills, La Puente, the EAST side of Stimson(HH), and I myself lived down the street from Northview my Frosh and Soph years and a hop, skip, and jump from West Covina High School my Junior and Senior years while I attended and played at Los Altos!

Sour Grapes-you're the epitome of an "amat hater". out of 60 responses ONE person said "it seems odd that so many O/D Amat linemen were slighted." and you come back with "Amat should have this and that.. Yeah right" many other "whiners" to hate on. go to it.

I dont get it Goss and Bowden missed how many games? There were other players who stepped up and played hard, like #34 Barrera. He played MLB and OLB and he also had more solo takles on his team. When Goss and Bowden were out the coaches really depended on him to come through. Did'nt even get a Honorable Mention. All I can say is keep an eye on him next season.

Thomas at Covina,

I heard that a formal complaint was filed with C.I.F. about the illegal recruiting and that the other Covina Valley School is waiting to hear back from C.I.F. after the investigation. Supposedly, no one was going to say anything until Coach Glaspy was heard being pompous like he's above the law sort of speak. Inherently, there is a conflict of interest if the Covina Vikings President is also a longtime teacher/coach at Covina High School. Regardless, if families rather compete at Covina instead of South Hills that says something right there enough said. An athlete wants to compete in the Valle Vista league playing at a school who promotes criminals and repeat offenders says less about the coaches and more about the choices families made in the first place. Everyone realizes Covina's success will have an * next to their record. Check the addresses and then you will be really impressed with how administrators let this go right past their desks. Wow!

Thomas will not go to Wilson and neither will Glaspy. Why? Covina is a better location for athletes and they have a great recruiting class this year with their freshman. They were desperate and haven't been successful in football for about 8-10 years minus the Mcdonough two years and Glaspy (asst. coach ) made a connection (lol) with about 30-40 Covina Vikings (local pop warner team) kids and parents and got them to attend Covina High. Wasn't ethical, but kudos to the Farm for landing the recruits. It's not jealousy or hate here, just doesn't make sense for 30 kids to decide on a school that hasn't won anything in the Valle Vista League in years (minus McDonough two years) for football, basketball, wrestling, or baseball. Added to that, you have 3 nearby high schools (C. Oak, South Hills, and Northview) that are dominating their leagues in all those sports mentioned above. With these schools to choose from, why would a group of kids choose Covina????? Let me answer that for you...Kevin Glaspy.

Amat should have this and that.. Yeah right LOL

OVERATED...

NUFF SAID

The only snub I see on this list is center Ty Olsen from South Hills. I saw that kid play in 5 games this year and he dominated on every snap... especially against La Habra's stud Mike Linebacker #8 - he deserves to be first team in my opinion...

AZusa fans stop crying about how non of your kids made all valley, just be happy with your fluke year you guys had. Also your only playoff win this year against covina was luck after all you just picked on covina's fish at corner... Rauley Zaragosa shouldn't be first team let alone even make all valley Daoud Ibrahim should have that first team WR spot
NUFF SAID!!!

seven honorable mention seems excessive for anyone much less the mead

the best punter in nfl history, ray guy, isn't even in the hall of fame. what does that tell you?

no love for the mead...

slick

Have your coach report to MaxP next year then we'll trust the stats are not INFLATED at year end. LOL

Count your lucky stars, guy needs way more SIZE and STRENGTH..

hahaha now we're arguing about the first team punter?! this is ridiculous lol good job fred did the best you can. its hard to please every parent that reads this thing.

Btw my kid had the most tackles on the scout team at damien this year and he's not on this list. wtf fred?! this list is a joke!

Rosemead with so many honorable mentions?

aghhhhh cooooomeee onnnnnn!

Anyone who saw Amat against Loyola would tell you, after seeing the size difference, that Amat was extremely well coached and NOT HUGE!

Which makes their accomplishments more remarkable and their OLine and Dline omissions pretty absurd.

Someone blocked for Gaise and someone stopped LB POly, OLu, ect ect ect. Given the difference in competition comapred to what the SGV could muster it seems odd that so many O/D Amat linemen were slighted.

To Please,
Your right, I was thinking more of CO's line
when I said huge.

how many games did goss miss this year?

Hey Dan, Amat's line was pretty small buddy, just well coached!

Merry Christmas to all,
Fred thank you for your efforts all through the year. Like someone earlier
mentioned, whether you agree with them or not, list make for fun debate & fun reading.
Fred I agree with the post about Evan Williams,
from the five times that I've seen Charter Oak play these last two seasons, He and Tyler Perri are big reasons that Charter Oak
had the success that they had. Games are won & lost in the trenches and Williams & Perri would wear teams down by the second half,
I know you can't catch everything but Evan Williams definatly is one of the best "D" linemen around, and should be first team "DL", even before he gets first team "OL".
Also think Ricky Johnson of WC. should be first team
offense, as good as our offensive line was[our's was very good] if you give him Amats or CO's huge offensive line he probably gets over 2000 yards rushing. Jabril Pearson also from WC should
have at least been 2nd team "D" in my opinion.
No problem though, cause no matter who comes up with a list, there will always be differing opinions to counter it
and at least with Fred
you won't get as much South Hills bias as you get with the "GURU" lol.

MY end of the year top ten
based on who beats who on the field are:
1- Charter Oak even
- Bishop Amat even
3- Diamond Ranch
4- Rowland even
- West Covina even
- South Hills even
- Glendora even
7- Rosemead
8- Northview
9- San Dimas
10-Bonita

u know wat LP fan i do agree with u on that i think no one from LP deserves to be on that list that QB wasnt even close from being the best QB at LP i was there when the had the best QB in the valley gene ortiz. The program is a disgrace and im a former graduate of LP and its pretty sad

the QB from La Puente was terrible, with or without coaches this year, hes the most overrated QB in la puente history. come on he was supossedly top 5 QBs in all cal in the preseason to watch for, the only thing to watch for that kid was when was he gonna throw the next interception.he threw 20 some intercetions this year and like 18 of those throws were bad decisions the others were just tips. come on fred just plain and simple dont have honorbale mention players on the list. its like naming jv players in the school newspaper, jv players r the ones who cant make varsity, im not saying they suck its just there not as skilled.

the azusa kid would of been a special teamer at co and amat

My son was the best back-up QB in practice format in 04 and no recognition,Fred that sucks !!

im sure evan is very proud that you missed 5 of his games and showed up late to the championship game

what did you get him for christmas 99 cent tacos from jack?

just shut your white trash mouth

this is garbage! my kid was the best p.a.t. holder in the valley i cant believe hes not on here

no fumbled snaps in 16 attempts

this is ridiculous

Wow!

This is very outstanding list of great athletes. But I would have to say honorable mention is a bit much. Yet, that's the way it is set up.

First, Farrar is a great coach and I cant take anything away from him. But that team was so talented I would expect them to win out like they did.

Rosemead which played South Hills tough, and played a fairly decent schedule. I thought Koffler did an excellent job.

Snyder from Rowland brought a team with no expectation, to the semi-finals and did en excellent job with them.

Obviously, Hagerty brought a team to the playoffs and played a tough poly team. Plus he has called together one of the most recognized and assembled staffs ever put together in the Valley.

Price from Bonita was a stud and I hope some steals him in college.

Ike Chima, who dominated opponents did even get an honorable mention. He was probably one of the best DL in the valley. A long with Alex Barrios from South Hills. Too bad that Bownens Kid from Amat wasnt around the whole season, because he definitely be on there.

Chris Allen deserves this award, because of one reason, he flat out won games. He won games period. He had a great and very very talented supporting cast but he managed the game well.

I just dont get how the Kid from San Dimas got all this recognition, but got nothing as a running back. Amzing!

Hey Fred

What about Julio Tena from EL Monte he is one of the best LB's around.

great to see derrick price make the list. he was a tough son of a gun against everyone. been tough since his lvsd pop warner days

don as usual clutch.

here's a tibit for you to chew on

ethan betance damien punter

23 punts 865 total yards 40.24 average 65 longest 2 out of 23 inside the 20

daniel colby charter oak punter

37 punts 1453 total yards 36.49 average 22 out of 37 inside the 20

michael scott south hills punter

39 punts 1727 total yards 44.28 average 62 longest 14 out of 39 inside the 20

given all that evidence and teh fact that several schools didn't even keep this stat how does betance merit 1st team. betance had a least two games where he averaged less than 30 yards a punt. and in the ever so important game of field position he had teh worst inside the 20 average over a two year period of any punter in the whole valley. he's been over hyped since a good soph season with declining stats every year. thta's teh only pick that anyone can objectively disagree with seeing as some punters outkicked him by 800 yards and 75% better efficiency inside the 20. I mean 1% doesn't merit any inclusion on this list at all. unless someone can tell me that kicking against the sierra league somehow makes up for all his shortcomings... but how. was that morrison last bonehead nomination cuz no one else would

Everyone loves a list.

Kind of gives you something tangible to argue/agree with, huh?

I see something worthwhile in the Lengyel/Allen Co-POTY argument: Both kids have contributed immeasurably to their respective team's success this year. Both solid, super athletes; I've been talking Kyle up here and elsewhere for three years. I've been talking about Chris since he was nine. The final measure may have been the Championships, both in the Miramonte and the Division Finals.
Advantage: Allen

Some of you who didn't find enough love for East Valley guys like Joseph, Bonilla, and Highley can find them on the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin's version. Somehow they found their way onto a crew from Baseline, Sierra, and Citrus Belt teams (among some of “our” usual suspects). Funny how they match up better against kids playing in the Inland and Central D's than they do against the Mid-Valley and SE Division stars, huh?

As for as “fair” goes when it comes to picking these teams, please, spare me. When anyone builds these lists, there is no “fair”, there is no true and false, only perceptions. Stats? Hah! Some stats, like TD's, pass attempts and completions, Field Goals and PAT's are clear; the others, like rushing yardage, tackles, etc. Are subject to the “interpretation” of whomever is assigned the job of tracking them. (Usually some player's mom or girlfriend.)

Ricky johnson 2nd team?????
That's ridicolous

Wow, I just stopped in to actually compliment your articles and choices. Personally, I felt you did the best you could to honor as many schools and athletes as you could and to the victors comes the spoils sort of speak so rightfully so our area's best team earned their creditability on the field this year.

Unfortunately, you are never going to make everyone happy but I do believe these awards have much more merit and support than the Guru's end of the year information. No bias or subjectivity whatsoever.

Congratulations on a job well done FredJ. If any of you could just look at the entire paper today for what the this means to the families you would realize he did the best he could and any time your recognize kids everyone wins and no one loses.

You would think one day out of the year today if no other day we would have nice comments posted if only one time.

Happy Holidays!

Wow, back from all the family festivities, take it easy people, it's Christmas. I've always said that for every first teamer, you can make a great argument for someone else. You can't win picking all-star teams, there are no right choices, just opinions, and we all have them. When it comes to stats, they matter, but you have to put them in perspective also. Some teams stats are inflated, there's strength of opponents to consider, and some teams are more balanced when others are run or pass oriented. After forming my own opinion from what I observed throughout the year, I ask coaches who they would nominate from their own teams, and which players they feared playing the most. You also consider how coaches voted in all league polls, then factor it all together and come up with the best team you can.

Is there anything more sickening that all these people whining about Fred's picks? It's Christmas you donkey's. Next year Fred just don't honor any of these kids then you don't have to listen to all these babies. Merry Christmas to everyone including you whiners.

Boy's Dad....

I hope your kidding right?

Please say you are because I've puked like five times reading that post and I can't take anymore.

Please say your sorry to your son.

Mike the Clone

How in the heck can my son get the most solo tackles in the league, and if they were recorded right he would have had twice as many, not even get mentioned at all?You need to re-check the stats on your picks bonehead!ROSEMEAD #15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POSTED BY , FOR YOUR INFORMATION I AM A RELATIVE OF EVANS AND I SAW ALMOST ALL OF HIS GAMES. 9 GAMES INCLUDING THE LAST 4 CIF . I DID MISS A LITTLE MORE THEN A QUARTER BECAUSE OF POOR PLANNING ON SALES OF TICKETS AT MT SAC. I WAS FORCED TO SIT NEAR BING BING FANS.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD EVAN DID PLAY O LINE IN SEVERAL GAMES DUE TO OTHER PLAYERS INJURIES , BUT STILL WENT BOTH WAYS AND SO WHAT IF I AM RELATED. I SAW WHAT I SAW AN READ WHAT I READ. hE WAS A D END !!!

Diamond Ranch's Lengyl played MLB and OL and kickoffs and punt retuns. Gets a Div 1 scholarship and has outstanduing grades and is a tremendous character guy.

Someone needs to look at the Player Of The Year criteria a little closer.

Allen and Lengyl deserved to split that POY Award.

Both lead their teams to the Championship Game although one arguably played against stiffer competition and never left the field while the other was surrounded by talent at almost every postion and won just about every game in his 3 year career. Both would have been deserving in my opinion.

Best bet would have been a CO- POY.

If any serious thought was put into this it's tough to think otherwise.

Same goes for Coach of the Year. One accomplished the unthinkable bring his team to teh Championship game after a 1-6 start while the other assembled a team to beat El Dorado but El Dorado was gone.

Roddy and big Lou were class guys all year. Showed tremendous leadership qualities and conducted themselves like true Sportsmen.

Again it takes a little more thought tahn just staring at the big lights and pushing the Red Button.

POY:
Allen & Lengyl

COY
Farrar & Layton

Bryan Bonilla had almost as many sacks in the playoffs as he did in the season if not more and he gets honoarable mention? He's a first teamer all day. Lengyl was a STUD but even in the great Steelers defenses everyone knows without Andy Russell or Jack Ham turning everything BACK IN...nothing gets done.

What did Bonilla have like 4 sacks in the Championship Game alone, in one series he had 2 sacks and a tackle for a loss...that's dominating!. He chased Deen all night and shut down the run in DR's OT win in the playoffs, destroyed Muir's ouside game and rendered West Covina zero points and the pick went elsewhere? Was there a better PASS RUSHING LINEBACKER IN ALL THE VALLEY THIS YEAR????? Absolutely NOT!

Pretty sure about the other picks but Bonilla was no less than one of the top 3 LBs in the Valley given his ability to rush the passer AND stop the run. Played every game at 100%, never missed a down and played big in every game.

Go figure. I hate to knock any player to make a point but seriously no LB did what Bonilla did this year. That's just a huge oversigh Fredt...15 QB sacks from the LB position? What outside LB had those numbers or played that BIG in the playoffs. The best RISE to the occassion. Bonilla did just that.

Whoever kept Bryan Bonilla OFF the 1st team knows nothing about football. Plain and Simple. Absolutely NOTHING!

hey fred, when do the all cif teams come out?

STEVEN ARCEO, from AZUSA, 13.5 qb sacks the most in all the SGV couldn't get on the honorable mention???

I don't want to hear about SINCE HE PLAYED FOR THE Montview League!

Give me a break!

when do the all cif-ss southeast division teams come out?

walnut when your 2-8 and look like trash on film you dont deserve a spot on any kind of team escpeciallllly this team

Its not so much position as trying to get the best players on one team.

Some of the 1st team picks in a particular position are questionable to say the least.

Bobby makes first team punter on the Star News and only gets a honorable mention on the Tribune team puzzles me. I am one of his kicking coaches and I am disappointed to see such a thing. I guess that from now on I will have my kids set their goals elsewhere!

I know the kids mentioned were ALL very deserving of their recognition and many congratulations to them for their efforts and dedication throughout the off-season work-outs and season of play this Fall.

However, there is a player that didn't received any regional accolades, but is also very worthy of some kudos for this past season. Webb's Johnny McNamara,linebacker/offensive guard who went both ways.

Unfortunately, he played at a small, low profile school which is pretty much off the radar. He was great to watch, and should have been among those cited. He is a two time 1st Team All-Prep League selection.

Great season Johnny "Mac".

At least 6 punters in the Valley had better numbers AND YARDS and the all important INSIDE THE 20 stat and Ethan Betance wins 1st team punter???????

Merry Freakin X Mas !

What a joke Fred.

648 yards for the year!

WHAT A JOKE!!!!

Codude related to evan williams ??

HEY COMAN
AMEN TO MATT CHAN
BEST IN THE AREA BOTH JR AA AND CHARGERS
A GREAT KID
A TRU GENTLEMAN
COMES FROM GREAT STOCK
RICK AND FAMILY DO IT ALL FOR CO

As happy as I am to see Chris named POTY, I'm a little underwhelmed by the COTY pick. I guess that the combo of Coach Farrar as COTY and the relatively sparse number of Amat picks ought to put to rest the argument that the Trib is in Bishop Amat's pocket.

Frankly, had Big Lou failed to run the table and ring out on the revamped Southeast Division there should have been some kind of investigation. I mean C O was L O A D E D with talent and I can't imagine anyone short of a 100% healthy South Hills team, playing perfect football, who could have realistically challenged them.

Congratulations to all of the boys who made the Team. I await with great interest the comments regarding who didn't make the list as well as the their placement of the selectee's, (1st, 2nd, HM team).

Everyone loves a list.

i think thomas flores deserved 1st team and not honorable mention. los altos only won one game, so its not like that kicker helped them at all with anything. flores had a boot and kicked a touchback everytime. he helped west covina get great field position on defense.

Hey Fred,

Though a CO fan and beleive your picks are never going to make everyone happy and I personally love your thoughts this year, I would like to make a quick note for the list.

Matt Chan OL CO - it may not be common knowledge but Chris Allen has had his hands on Matt's butt now for what almost 8-9 years. These boys have been a match made in heaven since something like Gremlin football in Junior All-American. I don't think another man will ever spend as much time with Matt's butt in his life. I think you can probably count on one hand the number of fumbled snaps these two have had since Gremlin.

With all of the football accolades that the CO team is well deserving of, they're outstanding people also and Matt is one of them. Matt not only is a Honor Roll student, but he also is an Eagle Scout, volunteers and holds a job.

So Matt Chan your first string in our eyes and many more!

Merry Christmas Fred and thanks for a great job all season. Happy New Years and see ya next season.

CO Man

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!

EVAN WILLIAMS OFFENSE!
ARGUABLY THE BEST D END IN THE VALLEY
CHECK MAX PREP
ASK WATCHERS OF CHARGER FOOTBALL

WHAT WERE YOU WATCHING?

Joe Scherf did the most with what he had. The best season in what 30 years? He was the most deserving but the least in influence.
Terry Paredez had the best numbers bar none and rated a 4th place as a quarterback. He outdistanced all QB's despite playing in some casess 4 less games. Go figure. I think people overcame the numbers that were put up by a few kids.

there's a kid who only made HONORABLE MENTION who has a ride to UCLA.... interesting, not surprising, looks like coach high me has some explaining to do

wow, Chima Ike couldn't get honorable mention. I think I have talked about how Thomas Miralta :-) cost Walnut some games during the season. Ike was a solid DL and was a crucial part of keeping Walnut some what competitive during the season.

Coach of the year is a joke. It cannot just be the coach who wins CIF automatically. They have a chance to win it every year because they have the athletes. Look at the all area 1st and 2nd team. They are loaded with C.O. (7), B.A. (5), S.H. (5). They have the most athletes in the valley so of course they have a chance to win CIF every year. Give it to a coach who did the most with what he had to work with. It should have gone to either of the coaches in the following order.

1)Rosemead Coach
2)Diamond Ranch Coach
3)Rowland Coach
4)Azusa Coach

Look at the all-valley and you will see that according to our newspaper they had the least to work with and did the best.

Rosemead (2 players)
D. Ranch (3 players)
Rowland (5 players)
but came out of nowhere
Azusa (1 player)

There should be some sort of nominating process among coaches in the area to determine not only the all valley team, but also coach of the year. Put together a sheet to send to all coaches to see what they think. This will then give us the best all valley team possible with the coach. A few guys at a newspaper who never played the game do not know who the best players or coach in the valley are.

Sincerely,

This is a joke

Coach of the year:
My vote would have gone to Steve Hagerty without question, but that's just my opinion. BTW...

Joe Amat,
you asked a question in another thread... sorry so late, here it goes.

1) Yes, that was probably the Daryll Thomas team, although that paticular patch of time is a bit blurry for me, however Wilson had two great runs in the 80's and that was one of them, the other was later in the decade when his younger brother Malcolm was the Wilson RB and Ryan Merrill was the QB. Their only losses that year was to Hart by a field goal and to a big and powerful Ramona squad in the playoffs.

Would he leave Covina?
To coach Wilson, I think so. Not to mention maybe put together a staff of who's who in Wildcat football, and probably take Glaspy with him as well, lord knows he'd(Glaspy) would enjoy the speed during track season.

Although it seems it doesn't matter after all, because I've been hearing the Mustain rumors in many places.

Merry Christmas Joe!

AWW FRICK HERRERA ONLY GOT HONORABLE MENTION?
