Scouting Guru breaks down Southeast Final
The Scouting Guru has been all over the San Gabriel Valley and beyond, and like always, he's offered to share his thoughts, free of charge. Don't hate, enjoy it for what it's worth, which is one man's opinion on the talent in the San Gabriel Valley: Here is his breakdown of Friday's Southeast Division championship between Diamond Ranch and Charter Oak.

So we have finally made to week 14. Let's just take a deep breath and take in the fact the football season ends on Saturday with the Rosemead v. Paraclete game.
Well, the assignment from our man FJ Robledo was to put together our preview of the game between Diamond Ranch and Charter Oak with the use of official coaches tape footage. Sounds good to me. So let's dive into the match-up.

WHEN CHARTER OAK HAS THE BALL
It all starts with quarterback Chris Allen, who will looking to complete his High School resume with a CIF Championship. He is one of the most efficient QB's that we have seen on film in the area since Kevin Mort at South Hills in 2005. He just puts his guys in positions to make plays. And when you have a stud RB in Adam Muema, it makes life for the CO passing game that much more simplier. Muema is a kid that we have projected to be an early Mountain West Conference kid offer candidate in the winter. He is that good. But don't be surprised to see #5 Brandon Golden get some touches as well. It's a great 1-2 punch that many teams have not had an answer for. What will be critical for CO fans to watch Friday night is the performance of their WR's. If CO can get some big plays completed on Friday night, it will be a long night for DR.
But, DR is not an easy team to pass the ball on when you have a Pac-10 corner in Brandon Sermons. But, South Hills seemed to have little trouble passing the ball two weeks ago and you can be sure that CO Offensive Coordinator Dom Farrar has looked at every millisecond of the South Hills game and will be figuring out a way to complete a few passes Friday night. In our opinion, there is no defensive player that has had a bigger impact this post-season than DR linebacker Kyle Lengyel. Quite simply, the kid is a stud. He can move, hit and cover as good as any linebacker. In our charting of his senior tape, Lengyel rates higher than Bishop Amat linebacker Brent Seals. He is that good and his presence will be felt Friday. I know that the CO staff will get their defensive line fired up as we have given the matchup of D-lineman to Diamond Ranch, but, after watching DR is person the last couple of weeks, their defensive line has had a terrific post-season run. They did a great job of stopping West Covina and South Hills on the square and it'll be interesting to see what happens on both sides of the ball up front. Don't mistake me, I love Perri and Williams and I was ready to give this one a toss-up, but we had to make a call somewhere...and knowing our luck, the CO defensive line will play like the old Green Bay Packers in the 60's and make me look like a fool.
WHEN DIAMOND RANCH HAS THE BALL
We made the running back match up a toss up because Bryan Spirlin has been having a playoff run to remember. He took a zone-read counter play 60+ yards to the house in the first half of their win over South Hills and he had a solid game against West Covina. The kid is FAST! And it will be interesting to see how the CO linebackers handle his speed. Sermons plays a little offense, but I'll be interested to see how much offense he plays. In my opinion, DR doesn't use him enough in their offense. Look it, this is a Pac-10 player and he should be on the field for EVERY PLAY! He is a difference maker...and if you are a DR fan, you are hoping that Sermons doesn't leave the field Friday night. Guys like him should not be taking plays off.
CO will most likely load up the box to stop the run. And I would too, knowing how inefficient DR is with their passing game. I would love to see Sermons lined up against super sophomore Dennis Rufus. That is a match-up that I would pay a lot of money to see.
KEYS TO THE GAME
FOR CHARTER OAK TO WIN THE GAME
1. STOP THE RUN - It's really simple CO fans...if the Chargers stop the run, life will be miserable for DR. Problem is, no one as stop the DR running game that last four weeks.
2. CO IS "ALLEN"TOWN - Remember the Billy Joel single back in the day? (That one was for you Dom!) Anyway, if Chris Allen finishes the job Friday night, look for the city of Covina to rename the city Allentown for one day. It's all about finishing Chris!
3. IT'S ALWAYS "SPECIAL" TO WIN - I think that special teams will be huge Friday night and if it is, it will work to the favor of Charter Oak big time. CO has a big time advantage in the special teams department.
FOR DIAMOND RANCH TO WIN THE GAME
1. STAY WITH THE LEADER - In games of this magnitude, DR has done a great job of keeping the score low and keeping the game manageable. That has to happen Friday night. If they can keep in close until the 4th quarter, strange things can happen.
2. GO INTO THE "PASSING" LANE -- If DR expects to win Friday night, they have to pass the ball. If they can't pass the ball...I just don't see them winning.
3. DON'T BECOME "SANTA CLAUS" -- DR has done of a better job of focusing on game at hand and gotten away from the unsportsmanlike penalties they got early in the season. DR can't be giving free gifts to CO and giving them 15 yards. Stay disciplined.
PREDICTION: Charter Oak 24, Diamond Ranch 19

Thropay wasnt even eligible to play varsity...I swear I hope most of the people who blog on here are actual High schoolers because if adults contribute to this nonsense it is very sad. adults from all schools co included.
“Thorpay never suited up for a CO Varsity game.

Thought I'd seen him warming up on the sideline at Damien, DB, BoHi game. He is listed in my Damien – Charter Oak program.
Could be wrong, it's happened before.

Relax Mr. Thropay, no big story but I was surprised to find a kid from listed on C O's Football program playing a basketball game while his Football Team was still in the playoffs. Playoff roster or no, most coaches would not ask a kid to play (any sport) until the previous team was finished with their season.
R - E - S - P - E - C – T for your teammates and coaches and the time and energy they have put in to get them where they are tonight.

Can ya fill us in a little bit ?
BLA BLA BLA...CHARTER CHOKE ITS TOO LATE TO TALK NONSENCE...LET THE KIDS PLAY! CHARTER CHOKE IS NOW OFFICALLY THE #1 SMACK TALKER IN THE SGV...SORRY LOS ALTOS YOU ARE NOW #2..
JFR
Why do you keep spreading these lies.We have to much respect for your coach to do something like that. Its amazing how so many people in the sgv are terrrified of DR even after beating us for the last three years.I don't get it!
I miss the respect of past years. During the Charter Oak-Garey semi-final in 2000, Shaun Cody and the rest of the LA team showed up and watched. When some of the LA kids got a little rowdy, Cody himself stepped up and put them in their place. When we attended LA's semi-final the next night, the seniors kept the younger guys in order as we respectfully watched a good game. The next year, throughout the playoffs it was nothing but respect. In the first round, Bell Gardens' QB played his heart out, and when his team lost a close game, he went down the handshake line enthusiastically, wishing us the best of luck and saying he wanted us to win it all. In the finals in 2001, nobody from Los Altos came over to CO and did anything crazy. Nobody from CO went over there and did anything disrespectful. The night of the final, before kickoff, the entirety of each team met at midfield, shook hands, and wished each other luck in what turned out to be a great game. We won, and Los Altos stayed and watched us raise the plaque and celebrate.
Two teams that fought hard against each other and earned each other's respect. I'll always be a Charger, but because of my experiences at CO, I hold LA in the highest regard.
What happened to these days?
Thats right d ranch we r going to bring the pain this is co's year d ranch u better bring your a game because we sure r well get plenty of sleep your going to need it c u at 7 30 co 47 dr 27 co # 1 go get them chris allen and adam muema its your time to shine go get that championship and the rings that u have always wanted and to Coach Farrar I nominate u as Coach of the year and heres to Chris Allen MVP for the Southeast division
What's up with the Thropay kid playing roundball?
Was that really the Amat transfer guy in all of the Bball pictures against San Dimas?
CIF lets you participate on more than one team at a time now? If that is so, what must the football guys think about him moving from the playoff run to basketball.
Did he abandon the football team before they finished the job? Certainly the Chargers would never embrace a transfer kid who was out for himself over the good of the team.
Right?
Lmao!!!
And you blame our kids for that?? What a coward!! Our kids have way more class than that. You can get on here and spread rumors if you want!! Again "Lou Farrar", you need more people, we dont believe you!
In the case that you did not receieve the memo, Ill be here all year long you...you...mean person!!!lol. Basketball season is next and well, nothing to be said there except DOMINATION, and track and baseball season, You will have to see that handle (DRanchhhh) for a long time. So for, I, disappearing is not an option J F R. I wonder what your initials stand far? I do have an idea, but out of respect for our bloggers and more importantly F J R, hmmm....I will not write what I am thinking!!
And at least give me a chance to respond before you answer your own questions you J F R!! LoL
Cant believe you would put our kids down like that. Again, another ploy to make DR the enemy and CO the angels in linen. You need to check with those knuckleheads at your school. I mean after all you guys have had some newspaper and NEWS making issues at that school over the last year!! Good Try!!
Thanks Guru, Adam vs Spirlin along with a better D-line. The kids loved that one. Hey drachhhhhhh, come Saturday morning, can you man up if you lose? That's what I thought.
Thanks for vandalizing the CO campus once more. Last time we played there were doughnuts on our field and today there was DR spray painted over our past CIF championship signs, class act.
dranchhhhhhhhhhhh, I can't wait until you dissapper
Lou Farrar,
We dont believe you. you need more people. If in case this is you, shouldnt you be at practice, or do you feel like its not needed? Because of the mentioning of CIF event, makes me curious. Oh by the way...GO...CO....BEEP BEEP...LMAO!

Thanks for a great season. Let's finish it.
