GLENDORA - Northview High School may not have a gym this season, but it has a pretty good boys basketball team. And the Vikings showed just how good Tuesday night against one the area's most storied programs.
John Gasper had 16 points and Danny Silva and Anthony Farmer scored 15 and 14, respectively, to lead Northview to arguably one of the bigger victories in school history with a 65-59 win over traditional power Glendora in a Glendora-Rowland Cage Classic pool play game.

The visiting Vikings, ranked No. 3 in the Valley to begin the season, improved to 3-1. They close pool play against Rosemead at 6 tonight at Glendora.
Calvin Smith scored 20 points and Kos Russell had 18 for Glendora, which slipped to 2-1. The Tartans, ranked No. 5 in the Valley, finished 1-1 in pool play.
"It's always a delight (to beat Glendora)," Northview coach Ron Rice said. "I don't remember the last time it happened. But to come here and do that in their gym, it's special obviously because of what they represent."
Northview, also getting 11 points from Rigel Skinner, led 24-21 and 25-23 during the first half before opening the third quarter with a 9-0 run to go ahead 34-23 following a 3-pointer by Farmer.
"We just have to keep our composure," Russell said. "We got a little rattled out there. It was the first time we faced the press all season, and you can tell by the way we played against it."
But the Tartans didn't go away quietly, turning the pressure back on Northview.
Glendora forced consecutive turnovers to fuel a 14-9 surge and cut Northview's lead to 56-52 with 2:47 left following two free throws by Smith and a 3-pointer by the junior guard. But Northview countered with baskets from Zach Ward, Silva and Juan Vanegas to push the lead to 64-56 with 35 seconds left.
"We hope with the starters we have back, we do have composure," Rice said. "We hope that's one of our strengths."

Great Job Coach Rice!

It was a pleasure to play for you, coach for you, and to watch you have this success and the end of your career. You deserve all the props you receive.
