Hoops Thread: DRanch wins, 63-46

What happened in the CO vs. Bo Hi game? Havn't seen or heard a score. As for the SGV in hoops, the cream continues to rise...and like most years, Glendora is at or near the top. DR is still the top dog for sure, but I'd say the Tartans have to be #2 with Bonita and Nogales at 3 and 4. Would love to see The Ranch play Le Duc's latest version. I admit I've seen the Tartans the most, but they are steadily maturing very well and peaking at the right time. They have good balance and Kos is a very good shooter, but it's time to recognize C. Smith as the next great guard out of G-town. He's got all the tools and he's steadily stepping up as the leader of this team. Just a junior, he's beginning to spread his rather large wings. Hope they keep up the defensive intensity and they seem to have solved the pressbreak.

Couldn't handle pressure and had no arm. He could run but had like 2 or 3 picks a game. He was like Vince Young his second year in the league.

If you are trying to represent workman high school, you are not doing a very good job.

All that boomer does is come in and give scores or provides entertaining info. You come in and just run your mouth about being first team all league....if you good in the montview you better be first place! Not much comp!

u r right those 3 were probably the best 3 to ever put on a workman jersey...but there has been alot more and Workman use to dominate the Valley Vista League back in the day...What really hurt Workman was when there was all that talk about closing down the school...if all the kids that were supose to go 2 Workman went to Workman like they use to they could b have one of the best Baseball,Football,Basketball programs like they use to cause the talent is there...

i agree with boomer, silva did kill it for us by trying to be a one man team at times. he'd have receivers wide open buy yet would try to run the ball himself for the touchdown or first down just so he could have the glory. i remember against bosco we had a guy wide open in the end zone but silva kept it himself and fumbled on the 3 yard line. boomer missed a few kicks, but we can't make em all. lots we're blocked too. he did save us against bassett with clutch field goals too. i get this feeling that fact is a silva. he sounds like one, they always run their mouth full of s**t.

Diamond Ranch is the best B Ball Team right now and would whip a-- on any other SGV school. Playoff time they will get far but I do not see a banner this year.

Mecca, how can you possibly leave out Fairfax? Westchester? and even Crenshaw as Meccas? I went to Fairfax in the early 90's and by the way we had a NATIONAL title then and since then Fairfax has been a top team...just wanted to give my old school some props...

Now as for DR, I have to give it to them and thier coach, he CAN coach and yes there are alligations all over him but I tend to agree with DRANCH a lot of kids and parents now recruit schools/coaches in almost every sport BUT there are a few coaches who make it easier to get there....

Can't wait for the rematch at Our House, between DR adn BONITA....Go Bearcats!!!

BJ-CL FYI: "old things have past away and all things are new" If the best you can do is live in another mans past you're the cheat. Get over it,Coach Grover is a great coach and guess what? He's poducing Division 1 ball players! Watch who's closet you open up your own skeleton's might fall out! And don't be surprised if you see him coaching at the next level!!! He is qualified. Before Grover came to DR who did DR produce at the D-1 level (basketball) hello! Don't hate, appreciate it's easier. You have to be person enoughh take the good with the bad. Grover is at DR and that's that! He's producing quality ball players and the record speaks for itself! don't you agree? or is it not in your game? Have a great life!

Can't speak for Grover's past but I can tell you without a doubt that all the DRanch players of 2009 are homegrown. They all grew up together and went to the same middle school @ Lorbeer. Stay tuned...because this team may put a third ring on his finger. I hope!

Yes I agree, it is illegal to recruit within the Public school system per "CIF rules and regulations". The truth is, KIDS NOW RECRUIT SCHOOLS. PARENTS RECRUIT SCHOOLS. We see it in Baseball, Football and Basketball and quite honestly if you have been around the Girls softball circuit (Underground i.e. "Traveling Clubs"), It's very rampant, just not spoken of.

*FACT* is you only know what you read in the paper or on some Blog. I would say that 100% of the time it is written by some person who has their own views and ideas of that particular subject or person, and 50% of the time the story isn't truly correct.

For example, the whole thing with Brandon Sermons from last year. O, god the guns went'a blazing after a specific Old/New Coach reported the affair. Truth is Brandon's parents did everything correctly when THEY made the decision that they were going to send there son to DR! However, our then AD dropped the ball, didnt send his paper work back in time to be filed and approved. But a couple of very prominent newspaper reporters, wont say any names, made it seem like RODDY LAYTON illegaly recruited. People till' this day, still believe that this happened. So until you talk to
Grover I dont think its fair that you drag his name and reputation through the mud. He could have chosen any school in southern cal but chose DR.

And yes, I said MECCA of BB in SC...with the exception of the Mater Dei's, Harvard Westlakes...etc. (The Privates, which can recruit)

P.S. Over an 8 year period, do you not think that 2 CIF championships says a lot about a coach?? I went to Dominguez High School in the late 90's and even then ARTESIA and Dominguez where "THE" public schools to attend if you wanted to move forward on the basketball court. You think Artesia (i.e. Prep Basketball Mecca in SC?????? you are crazy and why do u think Loren Grover aka Conan O'Brien is even your coach?? he left Artesia high and dry after winning a state championship and recruiting violations came out, thats why he bolted.
Artesia had 2 good seasons in this decade, the first year they won state then had scandals for recruiting then scott pera left, then the next year Conan's first year they win state but suddenly top 5 player 6'10 beast Renardo Sidney suddenly shows up from Mississippi, he was recruited, his family stayed at a place leased by Conan, he left amungst scandals, why else would he leave after winning state?? he recruited and thats illegal. Ya another thing he taught James Harden(ASU) Malik Story(Indiana) the same class twice, their is grade fixing and grade scandals from here to Artesia. Not only are our players good, but people, we are missing the fact that our new head coach for the basketball team came from Artesia (i.e. Prep Basketball Mecca in SC). This guy is an awesome, intense and very knowledgeable coach..

I was one of those people that criticized Walnut's cupcake preseason, which is was. But they won those games (which they should have). After doing some research on the rest of the San Antonio League I realized Walnut had a solid chance of winning league this year.

Winning the close games helps build some momentum for the team which, to me, means more than the preseason.

I knew Walnut would struggle with Nogales, and they will when they meet a second time.

I do believe that Walnut will go into the playoffs this year and take second. I do still think they have a chance at league, not as high as I thought before they played Nogales, but nonetheless, they still have a chance.

What happened to Nogales tonight? They looked outmatched. The intensity of DRanch's defense seemed to overwhelm the Nobles players. DRanch must have out rebounded them by twice as much but who's counting. Bottom-line...no contest! DRanch dominated the game after the first quarter. Oh, but I will give it up for their cheerleaders...they rocked the house and gave the DR cheer squad a lesson.

Wow. There's innovation. A morning newspaper that runs a schedule of all the games set for that afternoon or night in the newspaper itself, not just the website so that people might see the schedule and decide to go. What a service to the readers and fans. Might give people a reason to buy the paper if they saw the paper doing that for every prep sport every day.. Nah. We have to feed them endless pap about the overpaid and over praised pros instead of encouraging support for our own youth and schools. Newspapers should feel an obligation to publicize or promote attendance of local events as well as report results. Could work in your favor reader-wise.

Rowland had Diamond Ranch beat and folded up. When Rowland began closing on Nogales in their game last week, Nogales answered each time and pulled away again.

A toss-up, but will pick Nogales to win. Aaron DeAnda had a subpar game for him for three and a half quarters against Rowland, but when winning time came-He found his game and took over. Think he will be the difference...

A win by Rowland over Walnut is NOT an upset. Walnut played a soft schedule in the 1st half of the season. Now its catch up to them. Rowland almost beat Diamond Ranch @ APU Shootout.
