Baseball: Who will be No. 1 in 2009?

Let's put this to a simple vote, but you can expand and explain in the comment section ...

Comments

Good Day. Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
I am from Emirates and too poorly know English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Find and book cheap flights, hotels and car rentals to and from any internationl or domestic location."

With love ;), Ty.

Hi everyone. I have come to the conclusion that politics are too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
I am from Chile and too bad know English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Cheap tickets to london offers discount airline tickets deals for budget travel to london, the uk and other major cities in europe."

Thank you very much :D. Baruch.

bonita will smoke thur the season, fly thur the c.i.f. inless that old timer with the dark sunglasses get the northveiw game again at playoff time.that ump blow two big calls that outcomed 4 runs for nv.am not getting over it ,it was a homer call all the way.cost nicko a great game .he was throwing 90 to92 that day northveiw was way over matched .so joe ump toke things in his hands, thats the story.am waiting to see ump again.some of the old guys should hang it up.
back to plowman why dont you show your face if your a kid or if your a parent let us know who you are . your a low life talking about somebodys pass, i dig the plowmans the whole family are real people and if he needs me in his corner to deal with you or your son ,my son and i will be there.so shut your mouth jealousy gets you no where your problemly one of the booster thats way your son plays.some day he will have to wipe is own bottom mommie, and you guys are forgetting brain henley 2b that kid comes to play just like his father danny good luck ken huth

30% of Diamond Bar thinks D Bar is #1...that's a couple people voting over and over for them. Don't even get enough of a crowd to gather that much support.

1. Northview- gotta get beat to be lower than #1.

2. Amat- other cif winner should be here.

3. Bonita- we'll see if they can do it.

4. Damien/Glendora- will be interesting to see these two match up.

5. San Dimas

6. Diamond Bar

Cancer keep these blogs positive. Keep your mouth off the boys.Your sad and pathetic talking trash about a kid. That's sad.

It seems that every post about the Urban kid by the same person. The one who said he would be drafter high...what is high? what round are you talking about?

Urban has a bright future ahead of him. It will be fun to see it all unfold.
He's chances at getting drafted are high he deserves all good things that come his way .Best of luck to the Urban Family.

Fred, Delete the Plowman kid comment! that's a low blow and uncalled for. Come ADULTS no cheap shots on the youth, keep it positive!!!!!

bb rocks
buncha DBers hitting refresh!

plowman is a punk. kicked out of damien for stealing phones and ipds out of his tea m mates lockers while they practiced. also did a horrible thing in grade school when he was part of a group of 8th graders who poured syrup down the air vents of the Science teachers car. His dad was one of the parents who told the teacher to get over it. I still can't see how the Plowmans show their face at damien. I hear he's going to apu. hide your stuff guys this kid is a cancer.

last but not least...

does 30% of the sgv really believe that diamond bar high is number 1...

oh my over 300 votes, this is crazy

back again,

fred thanks for the start here.

good question on pitching, Bonita starters with plowman and calderon seniors could be top pair.....

urban and mathews at dia bar high will be tough....

glendora has tons of pitching plutko, cage, smig????,not sure on other seniors though....

amat is amat paez and i gotta believe a stable of throwers....

as for urban, lots of upside, big kid and its great to hear working with a pro.... he did scout ball and might even get drafted this june if its true he is 90+... from start to finish...

WHERE'S SOFTBALL??????

It's great to read all these positive bloggs about these boys. It's funny I have coached many of them. I'm happy they are all doing so well. Baseball is all and well.

BB rocks o9, You seem to know a lot about all the schools. Who do you think has the strongest pitching 1, 2 guys? I heard a lot about Urban, he is working with Blyleven as his pitching coach, I haven't seen him pitch since last baseball season but, the word out is he has transformed into a beast on the mound. Any word on him?

This is just to give credit to kids I have read about (baseball res. , round third etc). or seen perform after watching many many games the whole year. Sorry if I missed some players as there are many deserving credit for how hard they work.

I will not get negative but just respect everyones well put opinions or even mistaken facts.

Go sgv BB

Diamond Ranch is going to struggle this year in pitching.

BB rocks in 09, were did you get the info. you posted? pretty interesting some the names you mentioned.

Whoa, get educated about who pitch's for D.B., and the BIG difference in pitching all around in Div,2.before you come on here looking foolish. You have no idea what your talking about. You don't know anything about D.B. but you would pick other teams pitching staff over a team (D.B.) that you know nothing about? I know all three teams you speak of, one of them is in our league (Glendora) educate yourself before you open your mouth and insert foot.

Fans of hs baseball, not a bad start to another great year coming up…..

Bonita is going to be tough with mier, plowman,. And calderon on the hill, all seniors with experience. They have 3 kids already committed to colleges. Gelalich too. They will use northviews recipe great pitching and defense. Oh yes and they play in a big park. My vote is for Bonita #1.

San dimas could be the surprise this year with senior pitching ponzo and saucedo and a mash hitter in Leyland.

Northview returns a great great infield, but do they have a #2 pitcher and another awesome closer? Probably not at the level of last year, elias and andrede were great. But they will be in the hunt for sure, to good of coaching.

Dranch returns strong defense and hitting , pitching will be Goodwin, Kyle Lengyel, and we hear joel Licon as closer along with an untested senior newcomer.

Damien if they put it together should also surprise. They have tons of depth at pitcher with key juniors Amhrein, Guillen, Martin and senior Whitehouse.

Diamond Bar, new coach, new energy, and 2 legit starters in urban and Mathews, but defense and hitting are a concern. Very solid junior group of players in Torres, Crowe, Pak, and Moncrief.

D4 pitching is not to shabby, tyler skaggs santa monica projected 1st round mlb pick, elias (mt sac) andrede (mt sac), Kevin ponzo (utah), plowman , garkow , northrup, green (mt sac), lanuza (mt sac), pill (fullerton) all the above are going to colleges. Every bit as good as D2.

Go sgv have a great year…..

Hey,Hey, pump your brakes there DBar Dad. Just because your in Div 2 doesn't mean that you deserve to be or that you were put there based on your baseball teams ability. Just like Amat cannot control where they are placed by CIF, DBar couldn't either. Just because your guys THREW in Div 2 last year doesn't mean that they are better than the rest of the PITCHERS in the lower divisions. Who pitches for DBar anyway? I will take NV, GHS and AMAT's pitching staff's over DBar's anyday, anyway. Hopefully DB will get a chance to compete against some of these lower level teams in the near future,

Big Al,
I'm a supporter of one of the schools you mentioned that can't be #1 to start preseason and I have to agree...at this time. lol. Northview gets the nod on winning CIF last year and returning all those kids and beating all the area teams last year. That's easiest way to solve it.

Diamond Bar didn't lose to Northview.Diamond Bar would like to have a crack at it that's forsure. The pitching in div. 2 is totally different from Div. 4 pitching.

get em big al. you make some great points and I got to agree. will be fun to watch the mighty vikings again this year even though our kids have graduated.

No offense to the teams below, but can't be ranked preseason #1 for various reasons, but all have one common reason...that's at the bottom of this post.

Amat- You lose 3 Div. 1 Players at 3b, SS, and 1B. Have to be seen a few times and see who has filled these spots and if so, are they up to par.

Bonita- Nice team with couple big bats, but pitching is good, not great.

San Dimas- One good pitcher and catcher, not enough.

Diamond Ranch- Lost two top pitchers, but return some guys, but can't be #1.

Charter Oak- This is year for Quinley's team to take it in the shorts. Good next year, but so so this year.

Covina- Get serious.

All fine teams above and top 10 teams besides Covina, but what do they all have in common? Do you know? They all lost to Northview last year, some multiple times (Bonita, San Dimas, and Covina) and you don't get ranked ahead of the Vikings til you beat them. They are the champs with over 10 guys back, including 8 starters and 2 div. 1 guys for now. Sorry, preseason #1 is Northview.

didn't garkow graduate? and northview - pedroza should be even better.

SGVfootball fan, you seem so angry, take it easy buddy. If baseball is so boring why are blogging on the baseball thread? Don't flip out just asking.

I feel bad for you.At DR the kids pay $250.00 spirit pack in summer and that's it.All our pre-game meals for our kids are donated by local restaurants.Saturday morning breakfast burritos. Also a blue ribbon HS and just received national recognition as on of top 60 HS in country.

Chino Hills is a good team, it's all going to depend on the pitching, Good pitching shuts down good bats everytime. It will be a interesting season in the Sierra League.

Didn't know Goodwin pitch's? Is that all they have?

C O graduated Golia, Winkler, Garkow, Snow, and Scharf.

Quinner may have to reach into his starting 8 to back up Kenny Kissell; Tiffany, Hernandez and Northrup maybe?

Oh yeah, Reynoso throws too.

The only pitcher I know from D Ranch is Goodwin. I have seen him throw and he is a very competitive kid. I would imagine Urban would be D Bars #1. I am not familiar with the Charter Oak varsity pitchers as of yet.

I would second the Chino Hills winning the Sierra league. I have seen their bats and they can swing it.

i think some different guys will stand out this year. should be fun and interesting. come on coaches - give it up, it's not like a big secret to the other coaches or teams. quinly, smitty, murph, reagan, root - give it up coaches.

SGVbaseball, Who's Diamond Ranch's top guys? who's Diamond Bar's two top guys?
Who's Charter Oak's two top guys? the list goes on.....Who are the two top guys from each team listed above? without pitchers hang up your cleats! Your outfielders are only as good as your pitchers.

I posted in the other thread.

Since top pitchers was done in another thread. Let's move on to outfielders. Who the top OF's in the SGV. Who might be a guy moving up the ranks?

Baseball 4 life. I would have to go with Chino Hills to win the Sierra league. It will be a tough league this year but I think Chino Hills will have the bats to win the league.

Hey Who doesn't LOVE a list? Make a list of the 2 top pitchers from each of the schools listed above....Only the two top pitchers!

Blogs can be brutal, Agreed! I was thinking Fred can call the coachs and get feed back from them? just a thought.

Covina will have an average year but will be solid in 2010,2011 and 2012. Incoming freshman should fit it well with soph's Moran and Munoz who made the var team last year as freshman. Cov has Nick Hynes who is throwing 86-87 as a freshman. Only Rio Ruiz of Amat can pitch in the mid 80's as a freshman. It will be interesting to see if coach Loiza will decide to pull up kids mid way if the seniors aren't performing to prepare some of the freshman for the future.

what is the word on covina this year? No Pill, new coach.

baseballer -- i have to wonder if the coaches try and stay away - as far as possible from these blogs, can't blame them. Coaches have been hung and lynched on here and it isn't even a matter of whether or not THEY deserve it. It is flat out WRONG!!!!!

What do the Coach's have to say about their pitching staff? let's get the information from the horses mouth. All these bloggers are throwing out names let's hear it fom the experts....Coachs, Scouts, etc...

coach,

the coach at ghs has a proven track record of underperforming with some good players, you would have to be around the program the last 4years to figure it out, that being said, i respect the coach for being there for our kids, even if he can be a stinker when it comes to handling players and their personalitys, and yes all of the pitchers named earlier are good high school pitchers, watch and see

What's you address? I will be by in twenty minutes makes sure it's cash!

Eco Blues. Grow a set! How much acn you make off a Spirit Pack. Break it down. 40 kids. 15 bucks profit. $600 bucks

call me I'll send you a check! or you can pick it up in CASH!!!!

Now do THEIR MATH...$1500 a season.

Take the hours coaches spend with kids. What's that 58 cents an hour?

I ran into a former coach of my daighter's at a San Dimas game. Afer a short conversation I told her..."Need anything for your team?...How about a sponsor?"

DONE!

My kids don't go to San Dimas but I appreciate every thing she did for my daughter's 8tht grade team and is now doing for "her" alma mater.

It's about GIVING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Share the love my penny pinching friend....trust me it will come back to you tenfold.

Belive that! I'm living proof !

Eco Blues... I understand where you are coming from about all the money that needs to be put out for our kids to play at HS (PUBLIC HS that is), if you are sending your kids to Amat then I am sure you have alittle cash and you know what you are siging up for so it's not the same. I attended a city school and I don't ever remember having to pay for "spirit packs" Times have changed though and if the programs need it, and MOST do, then we or at least I, have to find a way. I know it's tough specially in these times, but if it means my son having a great experience in HS, then I guess the family is going to have to stay home for the holidays and not go to the French Alps....BTW my son does not even play baseball but ALL the sports need money

Amat cost to play football in round numbers.

Economic Blues stop your bitching.

Sameway those 5'2 basketball players in the SGV try and dunk a basketball :) 40 love.

Basketballfan, there's not one baseball player that as ever played badminton....so I don't know where your going with that. lol....i guess?

Baseball Fan
How do those Diamond Bar pitchers pitch with those badminton rackets.

gotta roll with the black and gold, go vikings!

A few months back the blog mentioned about the group of Freshman that were brought in to play football over in Covina and went undefeated, let me tell you. They are all great baseball players who have been playing together for a while. Im not sure how much of an impact they will be at the varsity level but dont count them out. It should be fun.

Diamond Bar's has the best pitching hands down.

Talk about ripping people off how about those two that ran South Hills Little League into the ground. They were the biggest rip off artist ever.

NV & Amat it's a toss up for the #1 spot, but lets not forget that one of the teams in Div. IV that will be very tough to beat will be St. Paul they are returning a very good and young team. Look for St. Paul to be there at the end.

Lets talk softball too Fred. Should be a great year!

playallday

They need to step up and perform. Quit blaming the coach. Did any of these guys have a stellar year last year?

NORTHVIEW WILL BE RIGHT IN IT AGAIN. GUARANTEED!

Well thanks for the info SGV sporting world. I am a coach at a SGV high school and I just wanted to test the waters regarding how much you clowns will swallow, and apparently it's alot. I'm going to be taking off for the river this weekend in my H2. Get to the river house and take out the ski boat for a spin around the old lake. Looks like those new ATV's are only a season away, ha, ha, ha.You're right JFRl, man up, shut up and enjoy the season Eco Blu's. I'm going to enjoy my weekend, by the way I need your AD space money, mandatory fundraiser money and spirit pack money in my office BEFORE FRIDAY!

By far the Sierra league is the toughest league! I would have to go with Glendora or Diamond Bar. Last year in the Covina tournament D.B.'s head coach NEVER pitched a pitcher in that tournament that EVER pitched in a league game his thoughts were to play the kids that don't get chances to play during the regular season?
Dumb yes...but thats the way he operated!

Fred, instead of asking the fans ask the coachs about their big guns this year! pitching can make or break a season.

Instead of asking who will be number one? we should ask in a tournament with the above teams playing eachother who would win?

Economic Blues

You should be glad you only have to pay $250.00 for a Ghetto LA Spirit Pak (LA for example). This years Frosh team didn't even get any brand (Nike/Reebok) name shirts/shorts like they did two years ago. Now they get their equipment suppliers (Guenthers?) knockoff junk. And don't complain about the ancient equipment they use, cause $250 only buys you so much these days, so at LA we have to settle for the 2nd generation, circa 1999, Schutt caps. Not the nice DNAs, or Revolutions you see on Prime Ticket every Friday night, at the schools that still manage to play D1 ball. You could always go play at Edison, or Fountain Valley, etc... Where ir will cost players ~$800 plus program advertising space (~$200) to lace 'em up.

Eco blue, an assistant coach for football gets paid 1500 for the entire season before taxes, that is the public school wage. That does not account for the many hours spent at home breaking down films taking time away from our families trying to make kids victorious.

In April I am going to NY with one of my childrens drama club who is in middle school at the cost of $5000. My parents were both educators and I remember when they had to crunch to get their four boys cleats for the up coming season. If your best interest is for your child experience and joy than please man up and shut up. P.S. I am no millionaire, enjoy the time while it lasts.

Money going to the program, kids, extra coaches...I GET. I can do that. Money being collected for something and not being spent how I was told it would be...I DON'T! Paul, sorry about the hard times as a kid buddy, that long walk to school, uphill BOTH ways must have been a drag. If you don't mind being lied to and you can afford to get less than you paid for, then good for you, you've come along way baby.
PLAYALLDAY - You're on the money. NOT getting what was advertised ticks me off and not knowing where our money is going is bothersome. Maybe it is being spent by the baseball program and that's great HOWEVER if it's not then that's not OK. Having been burnt by an unscrupulous person who stole money from our youth program, I no longer put that kind of trust in people with money meant for kids/students/athletes.

ok where are all the san dimas fans? I personally have voted 3 times. Yes, I am 3 of the 4 votes. come on now.

I noticed Damien is missing from the list of schools. They are a sleeper that many are over looking. They bring back solid pitching and have added two young guns. They are solid all at all positions and can swing the bat. Damien will surprise SGV baseball fans. Go Spartans!!

Economic Blues,
You are killing me. A spirit pack you are complaining about?? or if the coaches bought some beer with the extra money from the coffers. As a parents that did not get the opportunity to play sports in HS because of a single parent household, (now that my friend are tough economic times)paying a little extra for my kids sports programs in HS I never questioned. Buying a sprit pack or donating to my kids team sports never bothered me one bit. Heck I'd buy the coaches a round of drinks given the opportunity. As much as coaches put into our kids, depriving their own families of their time this is a non issue. Sure some coaches have abused the system but most are stand up guys putting in lots of long hours to teach our boys. Dont complain or ask where the money goes, be glad you have the money to place your kid in a HS spots program. I missed my opportunity as a young kid but vowed never to let that happen to my kid in HS. That memory of no money in HS to the new sight of my kid playing HS sports with what I earn is priceless. Enjoy your kids HS sports years and dont complain or worry about money. I mean how much can they rip you off buying a sprit pack.?

economic blues,

must say that i feel your pain on "spirit packs", however, all high school sports run in the red, until football money gets spread around, and basketball at a school like ghs, where there is sponsership money. the poor baseball and other sports live on the fund raising or "spirit packs" if you will. i think its the pricipal of never getting whats advertised in the spirit packs that probably bothers you. i can assure you the coaches are earning every cent of any money coming their way. even the less skilled coaches are putting in alot of time with our kids, and should make as much as they can

Economic Blues - knowing almost all of the coaches in the sgv area - you should have NO worries about them getting paid too much OR the waste going on a 2nd. or 3rd. coach. and YES i am sure with most schools, their money is well documented. Believe me when I say this - there is never enough. Do you even have a clue how much is spent on equipment, tourneys, umpire fees, jerseys, FIELD MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT and the list goes on. TRUST ME - your kid is not paying enough but if you think so - PULL him from the team and go play at the local ball park.

Do we know the dates for the Glendora tourney?

In these days of the dwindling dollar it kills me that schools "require" parents to pay for over priced t-shirts and shorts under the guise of a "Spirt Pack". BULLSHIZNIT!! I am paying for the coaches supplemental income!! Do all schools get an accounting of where there Booster money goes? How do I know that my hard earned cash is not going into someones pocket. Sure we play in tourneys and what not but who really knows? Maybe Joe Amat can help me out here. Whether public or private, does a school program HAVE to provide a detailed accounting of all money collected for a particular sports program??? My son paid for a "Spirit Pack" that was SUPPOSED to include x amount of items. When he got it it contained less items than agreed upon BUT NO MONEY WAS REFUNDED. I don't mind donating to the program BUT if I'm paying the coaches supplemental salary...at least let me know and kiss me or stroke my back while I'm doing it!

ghs pitchers include jr. gonzales, jr. cage, jr plutco, jr smigelski, sorry about spelling, good pitchers, bad coach, what a shame, another 13-12 record

SGV BASEBALL IS FEELING FINE IN O'NINE. LIGHT IT UP BOYZZZZZZZZ.

Fear the Charter Oak team once again. Quinners does not disappoint!!

Wasn't it here last year that I read Nieto pulled Amat out of Glendora tourney?

I heard nv's Arnold is a great pitcher - true?

Pitchers,

Who are the pitchers that Glendora has, I ask because If I remember correctly the kid that pitched against us last year in the tournament was a senior, I think and he did a fantastic job.

Mike,

Knowing most of the boys on the NV team, and aside from Eddie Pedroza who else is going to do the pitching?

Just give me the dates to the Amat Northview game and also the Amat CO game.

northview will be right there again. mark my words.

Glendora's pitching is not better than Amats. No staff can compare to the Animal, Zuniga, Mcnitt, Fitz, Grijalva, and AC.

Fred, when are you going to talk about Softball for 2009???

Glendora has more pitching than anyone else in the valley.
