Bishop Breakdown: Serra getting tougher?

I got some information from last night's Catholic Athletic Association meeting for football re-leaguing, where a serious discussion broke out in regards to making the Serra League arguably the toughest league in the Southern Section. Basically it was proposed that Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure join the Serra along with Notre Dame, Crespi, Bishop Amat and Loyola to form a mammoth six-team league in 2010. The first round of official proposals are due on March 11, the second round of proposals due on April 8, with a final decision on April 29. Stay tuned.

Another great Amat Video ...

Lancer Memories!!!

Xavier Carrillo in action!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTGn4I-kLUI

He was the Amat Family's QB and leader during the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

The alumni will never forget you Xavier!!!

GREAT VIDEO!!!

EB wore #32!

too easy... hint... retired #

who wore #32 Amat fans?

weird stuff...

at 32 seconds into the video..our team cries out "Amat" before taking the field vs. Crespi.

Anyone care to guess the significance of the #32???

"Yes Amat hasn't won the past several years"

14 years and counting. lancers suck. werd up

TWO BEATS TWO CLAPS OoooOo AHHH!! READY!!!!

You guys have made us so very proud. Your history will never be forgotten. We love and support you all!!!!!!

BAD FOR AMAT

Please do not insult us by stating that you are an Amat supporter.

You label Amat's recent history as typical of San Gabriel Valley schools. So I guess the average SGV school faces the nation's best year after year.

By your statement,I guess we can look forward to Bonita facing Los Alamitos, San Dimas dancing with Long Beach Poly, West Covina playing St. Bonaventure, and Los Altos battling with Mater Dei.

This would represent typical SGV football right?

lol.

Hey bad for Amat...so what you're really saying is Amat should play Charter Oak's schedule...Yeah right..if Amat played Charter Oak's schedule they would consistently win every year. Which may not be a bad thing...but Amat is a school filled with tradition...D1 tradition...Yes Amat hasn't won the past several years...but Amat has to continue to be in D1...it's like Loyola dropping to D3 or D4...they'd win more games and state championships...but Loyola belongs in D1...just like Amat does..

BFA,

I just try to deal in facts. Go back and read some of the archives from the two years before Hagerty.

I guess you could say I "blew up" the Lancers in a much different way.

It's amazing how back then I was the bad guy they wanted to lynch at chalk talks for being too negative and now I'm the "homer".

*Maybe* I'm just telling it like it is. When things are good, I'll let you know. When things are bad.... I'll say that too.

Wanna talk hoops?

Ok here let me tell you.....any school can schedule anybody for whatever reason.......doesn't mean they are good. Ya Ya Amat has to play Notre Dame, Loyola, Crespi, etc.. anybody can play them but hey are they CONSISTENTLY winning these big games, NO This year was acceptional, but next year will be tough for them and that's all i got to say, they will not be near as good as they were this year and that is a fact. I am a supporter of Amat but I don't like it when JOE AMAT blows Bishop up so much when they really in the last 6-7 years have been your average SGV team. That's all i got to say.

You know, it's so funny that so many folks are looking at next years Amat team and seeing nothing but doom and gloom.

To be honest with you, I also had some concerns, however there are two reasons why I now feel very good about next years team, and I'll tell you why.

Before the last football season started, allot of people were sayig that Notre Dame was going to have a down year, because they had graduated a whole lot of people.

In fact, that team was going to made up mostly of Jounior players and on the surface, it loked real bad for them.

We all know how that turned out right ?

As for the second reason why I believe that this team will be alright next year, well, if there were any hint as to the posibilty of a big downward spiral in next years team, then why in the world would Haggs go out and try to put St Bonnie on the schedule ?

I mean, how much sense does it make to put a team on you're schedule thats just gonna slaughter you, unless you believe that you can compeate against them ?

Think about that folks.

BAD FOR AMAT

By what standard to you judge Bishop Amat by?

Please tell me you represent a school that has consistantly played against schools like Crespi, Loyola, Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly, etc, etc, etc..

That way, Amat fans would regard you as a legitimate source of information regarding Southern California High School football and not just another hater pissed off at the fact that their biggest game of the season attracted less than 300 fans in attendance.

Whether you like it or not, Bishop Amat is and always has been the premier football program of the San Gabriel Valley. Rather than talk crap about something you know nothing about, why do you not support them?

Get real man...who else in the San Gabriel Valley consistently competes against those that consistently label us as a bunch of ghetto rats?

Those snobs that attend Orange Lutheran and Mater Dei absolutely HATE playing in La Puente. Wanna take a stab at a reason why???

Get on the right team man...the might of the San Gabriel Valley does not rest upon the shoulders that battle the likes of El Monte, Pioneer, Baldwin Park, Diamond Bar, etc.

La Puente and the rest of the San Gabriel Valley is Amat's home and we will defend her as best we can.

Whose side are you on?

WOW one player can win a championship huh? I will admit they have some good talent coming back. They will not have as goood talent as they did this year by far. Next year they will be very your and not very deep. Think about this you only have 1 starting lineman returning, 2 or 3 revievers who didn't even play this year harldy returning, you really only have a running back and a quarterback returning on offense and the Defense will be very young as well. They will win the easy wons but will indeed struggle in the tough ones.

hell yeah

the ghetto boys spank the encino man.

that video is tight.

You want an example of future Amat talent?

I give you #1 two way player Darien Johnson..

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1H2Pvsq9UDw&feature=related

BAD FOR AMAT

That's exactly what people were saying from the ending of the 2007 season right until the 3rd quarter of the Lutheran game. What school do you support and what football school have they played and beat?

But more importantly, did you enjoy the video?

Did it bother you so? It didn't scare u did it? Yeah, they are very serious about football at BA...

What did you expect? BA has to face regional and nationally ranked teams every year and they've had to do this since the 1960's.

Please wake up and give BA your support. They represent your home!

Amat absolutely will not have the talent to compete year in and year out...next year they will have some key players returning but they will not have enough talent to do as well as they did this year as they did last year. Plus for Amat it will make it extremely harder for them to get into the playoffs consistently.

i don't think anyone in the valley has such a great tradition as amat. i went to the amat vs. west covina game and there were administrators from workman there watching the game in the stands. i'm not sure if that administrator went to amat or not, but i know they are fans because they are such a powerhouse. its hard to say wheather they are number one in the valley or not because they play lots of schools that are powerhouses in their respective areas, but they did smash on the local sgv teams this past season with the acception of diamond ranch. those boys at amat sure do know how to fill up the stands.

that was the worst post ever

Crespi vs. Servite 2008

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=h1i8DrhX-e4&feature=related

It's been a few years since Amat fans have seen these:

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=jjZrK0A7Gw0

worst video ever

great video:

If we can't see the hit from the sideline, how are you so sure he did not make it in?

I encourage you to watch this video in high quality on the Youtube website itself. There's link below. There you will see that almost half of the Amat QB's body broke the goal plane...along w/the football.

Your PI call is also nullified and void. The contact was simultaneous and even if it was not, it would have been too close to call. This is a Pac-5 Serra League game...the toughest league in the U.S.A. Can you not see the intensity of play?

How about focusing on the fact that Amat went for the 2-point conversion for the win?

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=YrHqtyflekc

shows PI @ 2:05 and it also shows the qb stopped before scoring on the roll out, too bad we can't see the hit on the sideline!!!!!!!

Great Video. That game was one of the most exciting games I have ever witnessed at Bishop Amat H.S. that nite. The St. Paul win in triple O.T. the year before was great too. Hope Hagerty puts another good product on the field this season. Some question if Amat has the players this year and if this could be a down year. I dont think so, this coaching staff prepares them very well. Amat will compete again this coming season.

The Trinity League is independent not affiliated with the Diocese of Orange or the CAA. Mater Dei, Servite, and OLU are independently owned and privately operated. JSerra and SM is a diocesan school of Orange, and SJB is affiliated with the the LA Diocese.

The same amat team that hasn't won anything in 14 years? Put down the drugs pal.

footballyoubet -Orange LUTHERAN isn't a Catholic school either-yet they joined the all-Catholic Trinity League. I'm sure they aren't letting Oaks into the CAA-just considering letting them into a league.

Hate to say it , although I've said it for years...NO ONE IN THE VALLEY PLAYS FOOTBALL LIKE BISHOP AMAT....NO ONE!

Just teh execution and fundamentals and effort and focus....like no other.

No slam against anyone else...just cold hard and now ...viewable FACTS!

i thought that win was sickening and amat got lucky. werd up

beautiful video. ok but who else thinks that the Amat win over Crespi was one of the better games we have seen played the last few years. They played with so much heart and passion it was awe inspiring. The physicality on both offense and defense was amazing. (Hit at 2:29, OMG. Nice catch) Amat is here to shine!!!!

Agreed however, this is not to say that a game against St Bonnie (or OC)could'nt be played on a Saturday instead of on a Friday (just like we do with Loyola).

In any event we are seeing the foundation of it all these next two years because we lready have St Bonnie on our schedule.

Will be intersting to say the least.

Let's do it !!

Joe Amat First, St. Bonnie wants football only, not all sports. That point was clear. Your math is a little off not to mention your information. Second, Oaks Christian is a "Christian" school, no offense. The CAA is for Catholic Schools --Catholic Athletic Association. No christian school has ever been a part of the CAA and the votes are not there for Oaks. Look for the catholic schools St. Bonnie and Bishop Alemany to join the Serra. You are right however regarding the time out of school but it is only one trip to St. Bonnie in the fall every other year. Doable for the Lancers.

sgvfootballfan ,

St Bonnies 7
LB Poly 12 (needed a FG and a Safety in the final 8 minutes and knocked down a pass on the final play for the win.)

Amat 17
LB Poly 21 (needed a 4th and 2 conversion in the final two minutes to overtake the 17-14 deficit)

I think we already are "competing" at that level.... and I think it's only getting better.

jcaz, lets save the "he he he" for if it's really needed. And just because something happens doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.

These dominos started to fall way back when Santa Margarita complained about Friday night drives to La Puente and resulted in RSM, MD and Servite giving the public school leagues a try. Public schools went into an uproar - now refuse to schedule MD and RSM (to a large extent) ... which led to the Trinity League forming and the ouster of Loyola and Amat.

At the risk of beating your dead horse (or your neighbors chihuahua). Oaks and Bonnies are looking for partners in all sports.... all levels. That's...
Football
Girls Volleyball
Boys and Girls Cross Country
Girls Golf
Girls Tennis
Boys Basketball
Girls Basketball
Boys Soccer
Girls Soccer
Wrestling
Baseball
Softball
Boys Volleyball
Boys Tennis
Boys Golf
Boys and Girls Track
Boys and Girls Swimming

You do the math. Let's take the worse case. That's an 80+ mile trip to Bonnies (much farther than the 50 miles to RSM) 1:30+ with no traffic. Add the traffic on the 101 for an evening game. Friday... Frosh Basketball game at 4:15, JV @ 5:45, Varsity at 7:30. Two buses. Fans. When do THEY leave. How long is the drive.... really?

Now put yourself in an administrators chair. Seriously? THAT makes good sense?

What MAY happen once this debate begins is if Oaks, Bonnies AND Damien get thrown into this two league mix AND because of the distance they MAY divide them geographically. That puts Damien, Amat, St Paul, St Francis, and either Notre Dame, Crespi, Chaminade or Alemeny in one league.

IF they do that they COULD take Oaks, Bonnies, ND, Crespi and whatever valley schools draw the short straw and put them in the other league. That puts ONE league in the Pac-5 and the other league in the D3 Western Division where the Mission league currently resides. Which of those two league do you think they'd place in the Pac-5? I know I'm not comfortable with a potential move to D3. And that's the way it could go once this game of dominos starts to fall.

Be careful what you wish for.

GRI,
you allways say gano only won because he had division 1 player during his cif championships, tell me a team that didnt have one on there that won.and does this meam BOGAN and LOU cant coach either since they dont win every year they have a division 1 players.by the way.
is this what you taught your son, if he ever gets beat out of a raise or promotion at work by a new person or someone who has been there less time, to what?? sulk and complain about it for 6 years and counting.

GRI,
now your really letting everyone know how you are.you are actually suppporting or making fun of the situation 8 years ago.so everyone understands, the player this idiot is talking about was kicked off the team by gano, and kicked out of school. way to gri, show your real-self ! the bad thing is, lex was and could of been a very good player.

Fred
Do you seriously think Amat can compete on a year to year basis with Oaks Christian.Fred have been out to OC.They spend more money on their fertilizer for their football field then Amat's whole school budget and they have a Starbucks in their snack bar. Believe me Fred that's some serious money out their. They can buy what ever they want " IMMEDIATLY".

I hope this is true, because as many of you know, I have beem harping forever on this blog that the Serra invite Oaks Christan and St Bonnie into this league.

BTW, anyone of these current Serra league teams could win this title, so please haters, dont discount the fact that i's beyond the ability of Amat to come out on top here.

JA, if this happens, then all I have to say is, I told you it doable regardless of the distances, (he he he).

Joe Amat,

What are you trying to play nice with Gano's PR rep.

"some inherent advantages"

Damien is larger that BA and plays in a much lower division. We are all aware that Gano can't coach, he can win with talent at D5. D1 and D2 you need talent and coaching that he doesn't have and is to fat and lazy to learn.

Another perfect example of that is BA baseball team, that is another joke.

fyi,

Somewhat tongue in cheek- he was a H2O Polo dad - right?

R2,

Not intended in any derogatory way at all - but I'd guess that's not what Dub-G signed up for. One month you're the big dog with some inherent advantages within your league - and a couple months later you're in the toughest league in the country (if that were to happen) where everyone is on the same playing field .

Certainly changes the game and ups the ante a bit. Doesn't it?

NEW B.A. VIDEO vs. CRESPI!!!

THIS IS INTENSE!!!

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=YrHqtyflekc

ENJOY ALL!!!

Thanks Hitandhustlecamp!!!

We all are aware of what Gano is going to attempt to do, what is going to be real interesting is if the school administration is going to allow it to happen. Who is going to win the first big battle when Gano brings that big bad stud in, but he can’t pass the entrance exam? Even better yet the family can’t afford the tuition. Over at LA there was no entrance exam or fees. All Gano had to do is get an address and he was done. The best one yet is the administration going to allow those kids to not attend school go to practice and plan in the games and then drop out of school after football season. How many times will Damien allow that to happen, before they put a stop to Gano’s recruiting machine?

rgd2626,

Did you give Gano my message. If you didn't get it earlier let him know that Lex Brown said hi and that he hopes he can meet up with him.

hey joe,
tell us all what plan gano has in mind.i am surprised you would say something like that about gano. you must of heard about some of the transfers allready.

JA,

Damien doesn't have an attorney. The guy you are referring to was a parent who was acting on behalf of his kids, not the school. His kids are long gone, so we'll see how it goes.

The Serra league was already ranked as tougher than the Trinity THIS year under it's present construction. That's helped by Amat over OLu, ND and Crespi over Servite and the Trinity gets hurt with JSerra(5-5 with NO wins over teams with winning records) and SMag in a relative slump (3-7 with a win over JSerra).

The addition of Oaks and Bonnies also involves some rearranging of the Serra/Mission leagues. Expect BIG discussions over this.

Key to these discussions is the ability to increase the Mission/Serra leagues from 4 teams to five. This "rearrangement" by bringing in 2 schools allows that to happen. I see that happening rather than a 6-team league and a 4 team league - although Harvard-Westlake is in the mix a bit... and met some opposition because they are not a Catholic school. The Trinity league struggled with Orange Lutheran - and ultimately decided their nicely packaged 6 team OC league was more important.

5 school leagues get *3 automatic spots* in the playoffs - instead of the two that 4 team leagues get. So bringing in 2 schools and two 5-team leagues would also add 2 playoffs spots (10 teams/6 spots). A 6 team and a 4 team league would result in 10 teams with only *5 spots*. Of course if another school like HW is thrown in you could end up a 6 and a 5 with 6 spots... but still a lesser % (5/11).

What will be interesting is how Damien comes out in all this shuffling. That could throw Ganos plans in a tizzy if they have to(get to?) compete at that level. One thing I'm pretty sure of is we won't be calling Damien's attorney to fight the outcome. We'll leave that to them.

HEY,COMING FROM A SCHOOL WITH A SET OF NUTS WHO PLAYED AGINST BOTH O CHIST AND AMAT...I THINK AMAT WOULD REPRESENT SGV PROUD! WE R DR!!

How is this great for Amat or any of the local schools? Do you really think anyone will ever have a chance to beat C Oaks? Lets think about this. At first everyone though C Oaks was going to go away with Clausen out of the picture, yeah right. Kids are flying in from all over the place to play at that school. How can anyone recruit against that? THey a combination of the AMAT of old and Mater Dei of now. Just like Tesoro that started off like a small school with big buck behind it! Im all about the SGV and for all the kids from area, but this may be a little too tough. If they make this change, I hope im wrong.

Now it can be said that it would be one hell of a league but I still don't know if it is tougher than the Trinity league in OC.
Lutheran
Mater Dei
St. John Bosco
Servite
Rancho Santa Margarita
JSerra

HELL YESSSS!!! That would be GREAT for AMAT. Let the word of mouth recruiting begin! When the top athletes in the valley hear about this league and all the scouts that will be at these games, win or lose, AMAT athletes are getting seen baby! AND THAT IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!!!!!!! Sorry rest of the SGV your potential athletes will once again start CHOOSING to attend BISHOP AMAT. GO BIG BLUE!!! INK IT !

It's going to be tough for Amat if they think they can hang with the other 5 teams year in and year out. Sure they could win at most 2 games but if I were Amat I would protest this.
