Bishop Breakdown: What happens in 2009?

What will Bishop Amat do in 2009?

Comments

I hear ex Amat Off. Coordinator Rich Escalera is coming back to coach the Qbs. That would be a great addition to the already great staff.

Couldn't a better out of state team be found than Naperville? A Texas team perhaps?

Regardless, an out of state game would probably be a good addition.. if nothing more than for the experience for the players.

Hey wait a minute Randy Brown from P-Town is not a Amat Blogger. p-town is that not Pomona?

Forget CO lets move on. Amat should go back to playing AB Miller HS (inland Empire). or go back to playing Carson a (City Team)
Road trip to Chicago to hook up with Naperville again would be intresting.

tcbruin,

Very true but a return letter is not guaranteed.

Hags will no doubt get another team, there are bigger fish out there. Oh and no more bye-week, we play straight thru.

Salter was Rix's coach at Amat, how ironic if he were to return to fill Rix's spot.

BB&G,

If the calls to CO are NOT returned, perhaps an invitation via registered US mail to Lou F. could be sent. LF would have to sign that it was received.

Other news from the Football banquet -

Rix could be going to ESPN since they have now built new studios across the street from the Staples Center at the L.A. Live complex.

Overheard Hags talking to some parents that calls to Charter Oak have not been returned. No great loss there since we already have 3 SGV teams on our plate.

Is Salter coming back really a possibility?? Amat would have a practical monopoly on the best coaching minds at the high school level in the region...

Rix Leaving works almost perfectly IF Salter wants to come on board.

Any other anticipated staff revisions?

BREAKING NEWS: Confirmation from Amat's banquet is QB Coach Rix is not returning! Word is that he is taking time to focus on his family (expecting baby next month). I also know he is a sportscaster which coaching must take time away from...Big Loss for Amat!

Larry Amat, and Randy Brown, all you guys sound like right now are a bunch of ignorant, racist f***ers. Just because Walnut has a big chinese population, doesn't mean their varsity football team is entirely chinese. i saw most of their varsity team at The Village the night before their game against Rowland, and most of their team is white and black. so don't throw in the ethnicity card here, cause this blog, (and nation) doesn't need that ignorant crap.
another point. not ALL chinese people do kung fu and are good at ping pong you stereotypical a**. how bout taking a tolerance class at Mt. Sac (your likely alma mater since that was as far as you could go in your pathetic life) so that you don't make Bishop Amat's reputation go further down the drain.

best video ever

what about this one

ahahahah

Congrats to Sheldon Price and Brent Seals 1st Team, Serra League, 1st Team San Garbriel Valley and 1st Team CIF Pac 5 Division. Way to go to the homies.

We are AMAT!

12-6

Actually, im still wating for the game against Oaks Christian to get scheduled.

As for that 12-6 game, well, that was a little to far back even for me, but for what its worth, you should never discount the will, motivation and pride that comes with playing high school sports.

Kids can move mountians if they believe in themselfs.

Nice post St. Paul, done with class as always. The problem is your school, alumni, & administration is full of idiots such as yourself. The implosion of your sorry ass program has been beautiful. It's been a long time coming alter boy.

st paul fuckin swordsmennn all the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Los Altos,

Tom Salter is available....

jcaz how about Serra? Catheral or Salesian...don't laugh you've played Salesian before (score was 12-6 according to whitey in 1965)...when you guys were really good. Isn't that incredible though...12-6 to SALESIAN!!!!! ....ouch!

I'm sorry jcaz that seems funny to me...12-6. I figure we either missed the extra point or kicked two field goals but how did you guys score 12 points???...4 FGs or two TDs and two blocked extra points? Maybe my pal Joey has the details....Joey??? you go back....were you on that team???

No seriously, I know you guys played Salesian's freshmen team within the past two years...what was the score. I'm sure you know.

Well Salesian finally fired that piece of crap Griego. Talk about a basket case. Twisted, crooked and full of bull crap is what that guy's about. Had a couple of brothers and friends coach with him and the headaches come fast and furious dealing with all his shenanigans. Always looks to F with his staff and then gets all the credit.

Instead I'd like to see Amat go against one of the IE powers, Norco, Corona Centennial or that school from San Diego that is a perrenial power.

12-6.....wow!

Walnut Insider,

Walnut?, well it's Walnut?

Nice homes, upper middle class neighborhoods, (well some, not all.)

Opposes the Roski Stadium which will wreck their Chinese community.

HS Football and Baseball at the varsity level? Come on! It's Walnut!

Capital "L". (fill in the blanks L---R!

all those other sports in the water my props to Walnut.

Guy below was right,, too many kung fu pandas running around Walnut.

Hayyyyy-ya!

When i think of amat i think its time to take a dump.

Just glad to still be reading about football,
keep them coming Fred.

Just Wondering,
Amat has a soccer team that is 12-0-3, has only given up 6 goals of which 3 where penalty kicks. Some how Fred ranked them number 1 on the blog, but wrote in the paper that Glendora was the top ranked team. The coach for the team has won 2 consecutive Calfornia Junior College championships and his JC team finished ranked number 1 in the nation.

Here is what we know today for certian about next years football schedule.

So, without placing any of these teams in any particular order, here it is so far.

We play:

St Bonneventure at home
West Covina on the road
Damien on the Road
Diamond Ranch on the road
Loyola at home
Notre dame at home
Crespi on the road

At this point we have 4 road games (we need one more) and we have 3 home games (we need 2 more).

So inorder to fill out the remaining schedule, we most likly will play Alemany at home and possibly, St Paul on the road.

This still leaves us with one more home game to fill however, and maybe that becomes the Charter Oak game ?

There is major upheaval going on at St. Paul after the controversial firing of Pete Gonzales by Principal Barr (son is a top RB for Loyola) a year after winning a CIF title in more than 28 years. Rumor has it there will be an exodus of players leaving for greener pastures....possibly to Amat.

Stay tune for updates.

I posted last month that Salter was going to resign from CC and join Hagerty's elite company. It's gonna happen whether you like it or not!

How about an Amat Breakdown for girls basketball? Besides baseball, that's the only other thing worth talking about at Amat.

Football: Salter resigns at Culver City

Tom Salter, who guided Culver City to five league championships in 10 seasons as coach, has resigned. He will continue to teach at the school.

Longtime assistant Jahmal Wright, 31, a Culver City grad, is expected to replace Salter. He has been an offensive and defensive coordinator during nine years as an assistant coach.

Donkey boy ERR "reality czech" Why haven't you posted any comments?

Donkey boy ERR "same ol bishop"

STFU!

it's going to be the same song all over again for the lancers. their going to be the doorstep for the serra and a laughing stock in the pac-5. your miracle season already happened with you guys barely making the playoffs. switch divisions. it's the only way you will win.

There are of course, allot more questions rather than answers for the Amat faithful next year, but, where there should always be concern however, is in you're competition.

Notre Dame was a junior laden team last year and they will return allot of players next year who will make it very difficult for the rest of the Serra league.

In fact, if you remember correctly, this year was supposed to be a down year for them and look what happened?

Ouch!

Keep in mind however, that Amat didn’t do so badly with their freshman teams last year, and the JV won a few good games as well.

There is allot of promise.

Untimely, there is at least something comparatively interesting to look at when you describe the possibilities that exist for next year’s football team, and that is to compare these same set of facts, to the Concord De La Salle football program.

Those guys up there always seem to have great coaching, but they never seem to get great position players to fill out their team every year. Yet, for some reason, they always seem to be successful.

Perhaps, some of that same success has rubbed off on Amat now, and maybe we will have allot better season next year than we are being led to believe.

We shall see.

I agree post more about other schools and leave Amat off for a few weeks or even months. Watch how the hits dwindle and this whole blog loses popularity. 1/2 the blggers in here are Amat bloggers. Take Amat HS topics away and this blog will crash and burn. This from a outsider looking in. This from a fan with no real HS favorite.

Larry,

I think you say it best "Amat football is year round" which is why they should excell and for the most part do and why there are constant articles about them but what I think Walnut is saying is that it's nice to get other topics up or better yet other school, not because they are more intersting but because it does gives other non-amat parents something to b/s about. It's nice to see your school being talked about.

Having said that, I agree Amat does seem to drive this blog and Fred does do a pretty good job of putting other schools and sports up and that is why I keep coming back and I don't mind the Amat football being brought up once a week but why isn't their baseball team up a few divisions or wretling???

Joe and Larry,
I understand that Bishop Football brings a lot of readers to this blog, but with readership growing it might not hurt to try new things.

I agree that Fred has done a nice job of starting threads on other sports and schools. I guess it's just a little redundant considering November he said it was the last Bishop Breakdown of the season...which I guess is true considering it is the off season. I was thinking maybe we could get through basketball before we had another one.

On a side note, I like reading the Bishop Breakdowns because there is a lot of readers/bloggers that can't stand Bishop and it makes for a good read. As I said before Bishop is what it is.

What about the tall kid Josiah at QB for Amat, he is a soph right now and will be a Junior when the season open up next fall

Walnuts insider

Why the dislike or slam on the Bishop Breakdown? Fred knows his readers and bloggers well enough to know Amat football is the straw that stirs this blogs drink. Amat football since the Aram days has had topics year round, they are who they are for better or for worse. Popularity is what it is. Bashing and praising goes on here for Amat but thats is a blogger choice. Fred keeps the intrest of both parties for and against Amat. There is a girls Soccer thread for your Walnut team so it is not like they are not recognized by Fred and the blog. The photo of the bleacher kid putting in the work for the football team is all nice. You would not know the differance of being a Amat parent vs being a Walnut parent... there is a big differance when it comes to our sport of football. Amat lives the football season year round and crave their team with a passion, as for Walnut it is a seasonal thing for your parents. Most hate on Amat for this year round football talk, but their fans you got to hand it to them, they love their team with passion and loyalty. If your kid attended Amat and played football for them you would have a whole different perspective on your view point. It is a family over at Bishop Amat. You mentioned DR, they too are coming along nice and I see allot of that same loyalty and backing from their boosters and parents.

For the millionth time you will not be seeing McClanahan in a football uniform again. With him seeing his teammates (Paez-USD, Covey-USD, Valenzuela-LMU, Walker- UC Irvine, Thurman- UC Irvine) from the Arsenal already committing to college he will not want to be left out. He starts over Valenzuela at catcher for the Arsenal but yet Valenzuela is already locked in, why? Because he plays year round baseball. Is this fair? Probably not but that's just the nature of the beast. Colleges do not have time to scout during the spring because they are playing games themselves. Most of their scouting and recruiting is done during the summer and fall. There are those rare players who can be scouted while playing both. I think Anderson and Ruiz will fall into that exception category.

Insider,

Actually Fred is doing a great job throwing out topics that appeal to everyone. That's why this is the #1 blog in all their papers. He's had girls and boys soccer, volleyball got a lot of attention in the fall, he just had a DR FB post in "Talkin' with Roddy (could be a regular feature Freddy?) and their Boys BB team had a post below with a Photo of Cunningham. We've had a ton of baseball talk and practice has yet to begin.

I know just the name in a blog title is like fingernails on a chalkboard for some - but it brings 'em here and that's what FJR is looking for.

Larry,
I really don't have a problem with Bishop Amat, they are what they are. I don't want a Walnut Breakdown, but what about some other schools like D Ranch? They seem to be doing well in football and basketball? Or how about a Bishop Breakdown that doesn't focus on football?

Football season is over (unfortunately) so let's try to give some of the other sports some blog time. That's all I was trying to say, no need to get your panties in a ruffle.

The cycle of talent in high school sports is interesting and most often does not reflect what you did this year, but rather the last couple/few years. This years seniors represent players who enrolled under a different regime. During the past few years incoming 8th graders with exceptional talent had other options and some chose to attend elsewhere, so the depth may not be what we'd like, unless kids really get to work and accept the staff coaching them up. The reason this WON'T be like 2007 is simple and needs not be discussed. There has been a major change since then -and that matters.

While baseball has been pretty consistent with quality coaching that continues to attract players without any lapse this reminds me a bit of the basketball changes over the years at Amat. Under Matt Hart, who was a great HS coach, we attracted some quality players and when he left we could not get them over the hump with his replacement. The successor wasn't very likable to the players (read families) and for his last couple years the same situation occurred with 8th grade basketball players. Some chose to go elsewhere. Coach Lokar, who was the best, came in with those players and led them to a title and a pretty good repeat year, reflecting in a nice incoming freshman class, but due to the "lull" some Jrs/Srs that were not of the same caliber. So they had a rebuilding year with a bunch of sophs. those kids looked like the championship team at a young age and were set to make another run. However, many of them left or gave up basketball when the present coach was hired... and the cycle repeats. Now we have players who are All-League and All-CIF at other schools, who were set to be Lancers in middle school.

Right now football has that same couple year gap in depth that will either have to be dealt with by young kids stepping up (Ruiz, Shay, etc) and/or other players developing and taking their game to the next level at a pretty rapid rate.

All I know is that with the present staff in place I know that they'll at least be as good as they should be... and that's all we can really ever ask for. True?

Walnut I.

What? Fred post a Walnut Breakdown?

You and this whole Valley knows Walnut sucks at a high octane level in football and baseball.

Walnut is always Cellar Dwellers, every year.

If you do not like Amat and the post do not read it.

Better yet you want some recognition have your Coach schedule Amat week one or week four we have a opening.

Why do you even open the Amat thread if you dislike it so much.?

Stick to your ping pong matches and kung fu over there in Walnut because that is all your school is good for.

seriously already? I thought we had the last "Bishop Breakdown" last month. I am a huge fan of this blog, checking it every few hours, but the constant slurping of Bishop is a little much for me to take. At least the constant Bishop Football.

It could go either way. They have some talent coming back, but you need 11 on both sides of the ball and Hags looks like he does not have too many two way starters and builds from both sides of the ball. Will he have that liberty this year? That is yet to be seen. McClanahan,J. Anderson and Darian Johnson are a good core to start with but what is around them is the real question. Also the question is how the other Serra teams stack up after losing their seniors as well. Athony Barr of Loyola will be the biggest gun this year in the Serra but from there where does Crespi and Notre Dame fall off as far as Seniors lost to graduation. Is Jerry McClanahan coming back as the QB?

"Good sources tell me"
Sorry Amat fans but very good sources have told me that 2009 will be a pretty scary year. A lot like 2007?
