MONROVIA - The first home game of the season proved to be too much for the Monrovia High School boys basketball team to handle, courtesy of Charter Oak. A third quarter marred by turnovers carried over into the fourth, but the Chargers made the adjustments to come away with a 68-58 win in nonleague action Wednesday night.

Charter Oak (11-4) headed into the final period with a 10-point lead despite eight turnovers in the third, while Monrovia (10-5) turned the ball over nine times in the third and was burned numerous times in the paint for easy layups.
Things would only get worse for the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, as the Chargers exploited the gaps inside for easy give-and-gos that sparked an 8-0 run to give Charter Oak a 60-45 lead with 5:25 left in the game.
After Jaden Radcliffe's steal and driving layup, Monrovia coach Jarod Mix called a timeout. Jordan Trujillo responded with a 3-pointer to pull the Wildcats to within 60-48, but it didn't take long for Charter Oak to respond.
Even when Monrovia briefly blocked the inside lanes, the Chargers looked to Radcliffe for his crisp outside shooting, and he countered with a 3- pointer.
After a Charter Oak stop, Eric Rogers' layup gave the Chargers their biggest lead of the game, 65-48, with 4:10 left in the game.
"The first quarter was decent, but the last three we stunk it up," Mix said.
"We couldn't stop the ball, and there was no rotation on the shooters out there. We totally stunk the place up on defense."
Jay Henderson showed glimpses of his soft touch from midrange to finish with 11 points, and Chris Smith scored a game-high 18 points for the Wildcats. Christopher Bullock's presence was felt throughout the night; he scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds, using his great elevation to battle for loose balls.
Five players finished in double figures for Charter Oak, led by Kenny Saldana's 14 points and Radcliffe's 13.
Louie Jacobo had a solid all-around performance with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Chargers.

Seriously. Damien beats the top ranked Bonita and its not even covered in the papers besides a box score the following day. You have to be kidding me. That game was hot and the Spartans deserve some more respect. Maybe when the Spartans win league you'll remember to post a tiny story somewhere about it.

WOW, we actually had DR scouting us... nice....Didn't DR playes big bad Mater Dei???
We are not Mater Dei or Fairfax, or Westchester but if our kids can have the focus and intensity needed I think we can be very competetive with DR.

I did not see anything about Glendora's nice win over Valencia last night, 78-61!

Bonita played horrible in the 1st half, decent in the second but Damien played better then them all game long. I was sitting across from Chris Cunningham and Garrett Johnson and they were laughing at how bad bonita was, they think they are going to crush them and i agree with them hahah

Congrats to Walnut for winning against Jserra. They played hard. We have another tough game this FRiday against Los Altos, I say tough becaues we are under-sized and most teams are bigger then us. I am excited that league opens up next week and to see how we stack up against some good teams like Nogales, Rowland, South Hills. Our schedule has been called weak, wahtever it has been, the boys need to be congratulated for going 12-2, if we lose all the games from this point forward, I am still pround of these young men. No one ever gives them their due or we are always the under-dogs, maybe right so since we have not proven anything yet, but it has been a good Dec. for us and quite frankly this has been one of the best Decembers in Walnut Boys Basketball History. Congrats again and I look forward to competing in league against really good teams. Good Luck boys!!! Whatver happens or what you hear, keep your heads up!!!!!!!
