I recently published a parent's guide to college recruiting (Put Me In, Coach--www.RightFitPress.com), and one of the first chapters spells out what life is like on campus for the college freshman student-athlete. Everything in the chapter comes from D I and D III coaches that I interviewed for the book.
It tells a very cautionary tale similar to what your interview covered. I have had people read the book and tell me that after they read that chapter, their kids decided not to pursue varsity athletics in college but to play recreationally instead.
Most kids get very caught up in the glamour and fantasy of college recruiting. But the reality of playing college sports is pretty tough. Kids should have a realistic view of what to expect before they sign on.

great piece on outside the lines. i also watched the segment on kevin hart (the kid who lied about going to cal to play football). that was so disturbing to me that i found myself becoming angry. i'm sure there are worse things in the world to do, but to make fools of everyone in the town and school as well as your family, coaches and friends absolutely horrible. i hope this young man has learned his lesson, life lesson that is and can go on to great success in life. i am floored by that segment.

Agreed. This feature was just as intriguing and maybe even more important for parents to heed.at an even younger age.

Fred some how I'm sure this too...will fall on deaf ears and bloggers will demand a Top Ten list and then tear it a part as soon as it's up.
That's the world we live in. ...isn't it grand ?
