From Whittier Daily News Prep Editor Roger Murray: What has been bandied about intensely over the past two weeks became official Friday when Pete Gonzalez met with St. Paul principal Lori Barr and athletic director Marc Hernandez and informed them he had decided not to resign his position as the Swordsmen's head football coach. Ms. Barr then took the alternative and relieved Gonzalez from his coaching responsibilities. Late Monday afternoon, Hernandez faxed a release announcing the final action and informing that St. Paul would begin immediately a search for Gonzalez's replacement. The release was short and to the point and included a one-line sentence explaining that this has been a confidential matter and no further details will be discussed. Ms. Barr has been unavailable for comment. Gonzalez, who led St.Paul to a Western Division championship and the semifinals in two of his three seasons in the position, said he did not resign as Dean of Boys and he intends to remain in the position at least through the school year. "I will continue to work as a dean," Gonzalez said Monday. "I want to make that clear. If I had done anything unethical or relating to conduct, I wouldn't still be at the school. She (Barr) has a plan, whatever it is, it's clear I'm not part of it. I think they expected me to resign. Maybe from a personal standpoint, in terms of my career, it may be a mistake to be fired instead of resigning, but I never told our kids to quit, and I'm not quitting, either."

Sports bar with good big on tap beers in Covina. Called the Rude Dog on Citrus Ave in Downtown Covina. Food Menu and a bar waitress that looks like Eva Longoria. She is hot looking.

I dont think there were any wrongdoings or he probably would have been fired as dean of boys too.

Thank you all for you kind words and for the suggestions.
Don,
Thanks for the heads up on the distance between Chicago and Great Lakes. I know is a 45-60 min. drive but there's not much to do in the winter time in the GL's area. So a short drive into Chicago for deep dish is worth it.

It might be a wrong to fire the guy, but the principal can fire a coach at his or her discretion without explanation. Are you people certain there weren't any wrongdoings going on over there? If not, that's foul!

Wonder if Lori Barr is bringing her kid in as a transfer next season. Anthony Barr of Loyola at St. Paul next year could be her plan along with her new coach. stay tuned. stranger things have happened.

Lou Malnati's is a chain too. The one I ate in was a real resturant/pizzeria near DePaul Uni. Great student atmosphere, but they also have a bunch of take-out places all over the greater Chicagoland area.

Where is Malnati's... for next time

Lou Malnatis is the best hands down. Gino's East is the most famous but Lou's has to be the best.

CO bro,
A few years back I worked for a company based in Mundelin, (a little N of Chicago), and went back four or five times a year for meetings and stuff. As I recall the Great Lakes Naval Base (station) is about an hour or more North of Chicago, near Waukegan. You may want to consider that when planning your chowdown
For the “tourista” experience it's hard to beat Pizzeria Uno, good grub and they've been there forever. Gino's and Lou Malnati's are favorites of the in-town guys. Giordano's has several locations, check them out in Evanston, up near where you are attending the Grad ceremonies.
Congrats to your family and thanks to your son for his service.

BRO,
Depends on where you're at ... South Side by the Illini or Wrigleyville.
You can find a Giordanos anywhere - and that pizza is more "stuffed" than deep dish. On the South Side I went to Taylor St. A bunch of smaller quiet authentic places - not chains. Smelled great. I wanted to watch a game so stopped in a bigger place called Pompeiis. Somebody there said "Connies" is great too.
But on my way to a Cubs game a couple years back (their playoff year-extra innings-Cuban was there in the bleachers with the fans, bleacher seats are harder to get than the ones we had by third base) I went to a place on a corner called D'Agostino's. Kinda loud, mostly wood, pre-game bar crowd - but you gotta use a fork. Then afterwards you can walk it off and stop at some of the bars on the way towards Wrigley - they have great bar names.
On the way out the next day had lunch (a sandwich) at Chicago Pizza & Grinder - big place, forgettable - go to BJs when you get back.
Have fun... and Congrats!

Going to Chicago tomorrow to watch my son's Navy Bootcamp Graduation. I need help on which is the best Deep Dish Pizza Joint in Chi Town. Giordano's, Malinatis, Pizza Uno or is there another I haven't heard of.
Joe A. I know you can help me out!

All Politics and nothing to do with football. The Principal fired Pete because he wouldn`t stand down to her intimidation tactics and the schools lack of financial stability she is going to recieve one million dollars from a Alumni to hire his brother to coach the team.

I just viewed a posting on the CiF website for the position of head football coach at St. Paul. Do you have any details on what happened? I understood that Coach Gonzales was doing some really good things over there...like winning Cif titles! If possible, could someone elaborate?
