Nogales cheerleaders are the best

| | Comments (32) |

I'm not talking about cheer tournaments and trophies, I'm talking about the best cheer at games, period. I don't know how many Monster or Red Bull's it takes to do what they do, but they're entertaining. I found this video to show one one of their tricks, but it still doesn't do them justice. This is sure a lot better than other cheer teams that rarely leave the bench.

I used to be a nogales high school cheerleader. When we were at our highest point. I was on varsity my freshman and sophmore year but moved out of state. I wonder when i goto my new high school football games think why the dont cheer like they love it. My coach has always told us to cheer at games as if you were performing at a competition. Thats what our drive was. We never got the respect we deserved and feel like they still do need it. jsut to let everyone know, i`m not lying ive seen south hills, there bad. We went to a game and they were mocking us. Rowland, there stunts and cheers are messy, obviously not cooridnated. Walnut, copied that stunt you just seen in that video, they dont seem like they care about cheering. All i have to say is that nogales cheer deserves alot of respect for what they do. WE went through alot of risks and falls and broken arms and legs to put on the best show for anyone who shows up at the games. =]

south hills band isnt good?
HELLO EARTH TO YOU!
south hills band gets first in almost all of their competitions. if not they get second or third. but they always place in the top three. that doesnt sound like a crappy band to me.
stop being jealous.

Talking about cheerleaders, those cheerleaders from South Hills, they are horrible. I have seen them be so rude when the other schools cheerleaders come over to greet them. They all stand and stare at each other they dont greet them back, they are to busy running around and kicking there legs up to see who does it better between them. Its embarassing to see that. Do they have a cheer cordinator? If not they should and get these cheerleaders in check. And by the way whats up with SH band, they are so boring..they never play anything, they do the same half time routine all season. At one game I think its was Nogalas or North View they totally put SH band to shame, the band only had about 10 people and they did not even have uniforms. Play something instead of just sitting there in those uniforms and palying the same half time routine... For the band cordinator if you dont know by now, a high school band is so important at the football games thats what gets the fans going......

FRED????

How about putting out an article, "Calling ALL Cheerleaders" I am sure once the fire got lit it would take over and someone would do something, even if you have schools compaling about teams not being even, so what, it would be great to see these Atheletes compete....

Cheer said:

Sharp would not be the place to go. Look up the winners circle, hardly any High School teams. United Spirit Association (USA)have the most High School teams.
So who is putting this together?

Basic said:

Dan,

I have not seen Nogales so I can't say anything other than the video posted on here, and like I said before they look great but this is NOT competition and @ games most teams do not push it as I see Nogales push it. SO for game I agree Nogales looks great but for Competition I'd still give it to Glendora and I am not a Tartan don't even know what that is...

Boomer, If you're going to put "Sharps" maybe you should post "Jamz" or "USA" these two seem to get more high school teams to their competitions.

This is why a SGV Competition would be great. Have all the teans there, all compete the same day, and you could be "nice" and crown League champs based on scores on each league's teams, and then the OVERALL SGV CHAMPS.

here's the link to find out where they'll be and when. good luck fred.

theres a company called "SHARP" which is an organization that has cheer, dance, and drill competitions every weekend at a different high school. they've been at northview, west covina, sierra vista, etc. many local high school cheer squads go and compete. you should check it out and you can rate them that way.

Dan said:

Basic & Walnut insider,
If you get a chance, check out a Nogales football game, believe me when I tell you their cheer squad will impress you. I'm not even a Nogales
follower but they are hands down the best cheer squad I've seen at a high school football game. I agree with you Fred.

Obviously, my vote goes to the Walnut cheer leaders. I know they won some cheer competition last weekend. I don't know the name or number of schools involved, but that should count for something.

Huh?

My original blog clearly said "THE MOST DANGEROUS SPORT" and this was in TIME Magazine and notice the "SPORT" at the end? So yes this is a sport, the issue at hand is that most people @ games only see the cheerleader doing their cheers and not their Competition stunts and so on, so that is why most get a mis-conception that cheerleading is not a sport when in reality this is a very competetive sport.

Like i said earlier, C.O., Glendora and Whittier probably have the best YOUTH programs around as for High School I think Glendora is very talented.

It would be GREAT to see an All-Valley Competition but it could not be held @ a high school, it would have to be held at a much bigger place. You would be SHOCKED to see how many people go to these competitons.

Okay, next week I'm ranking the top ten cheer programs in the Valley, but I need your help, start voting.

Cheer is expensive said:

Cheerleading is not only dangerous but very expensive. A cheer program at a high school with a competition team will run about $18,000. per year or more. That is NOT including what the individual kids pay for themselves, Uniforms, warm-ups, etc. Individually it will run you approx $2,000.
This is very serious, very expensive and very competitive. Thanks for finally recognizing the cheerleaders.

Don said:

When you put this up yesterday I thought, “drag, here's another thread that will go by the by, nobody cares about cheerleaders”.

Wrong was I, as Yoda would say.

Who would have known there was this much going on with the Cheer Squad? I mistakenly commented about the Cheer Moms who arrive early to games to stake out the 50 yard line seats at the rail. “How silly”, said I, “you can't even see the game from down there”. “They aren't there for the game”, I was told, “they are there to watch the cheerleaders”.

Well, I'm on board now guys. The sideline ladies obviously put in a great deal of effort and I especially enjoy watching the gymnastic stuff some of them engage in. Thanks for your effort.

Cheer Safety said:

If your Coach is good she/he will be Certified in
AACCA’s Cheerleading Safety Certification Program. The rules have changed for this year.
The most significant action taken by the rules committee was to limit the types of stunts that can be performed on a basketball court surface. The new rules prohibit certain types of tosses, inverted skills and twisting skills on the court surface unless they are performed on a mat. Well, they are not going to bing a mat, so these kids are limited to the stands.
Maybe Nogales' coaches aren't AACCA Certified.

A High School cheer Competition... You should see the All Star Teams. It's not even cheerleading at that point.
and definately a sport.

We were at a regional cheer competition this weekend that included Glendora, Baldwin Park, Northview, Covina and South Hills. One of the dads said, wouldn't it be great to host a cheer competition at one of the local schools for the competition aspect of it and also to raise money for a cause... Like the Ortega family Baseball Fundraiser. The amount of people that attend these competitions are astonding. High Schools now have game squads and competition teams. These girls "and" boys practice long hours. Above and beyond the game squads.
It gets a little complex when rating these teams because in the competitions they are all in different categories... Varsity - Novice, intermediate and advanced. Varsity Co-ed, Crowdleaders, etc. Therefore most do not compete against each other. You can however tell what schools are visably better. It's very competitive and very demanding. So, yes... it would be awesome to have a "Champions of the Valley" cheer competition.
and if we're going to rate, I would rate the local schools with Glendora and Northview on top.

Fred,
I didn't say all the participants in sports are athletes. I do agree that cheerleaders & ice skaters are athletes and that bowlers and poker players are not athletes.

I am simply saying that I believe to be a true competition, judges and score cards should be left out.

You bring up an interesting argument with college football, since the championship is determined by computers and voters. So by my definition the games are sports, yet the championship is not.

One final thought, I would love to see a "champions of the valley" competition as you said. I think it would be great. I personally, get tired of seeing these schools with their "National Championships" and there are only 5 schools in the competition.

FredJ said:

Walnut insider, based on your logic....I guess college football isn't a sport, because computers and voters determine who plays in the championship game. I guess gymnastics isn't a sport, because they have judges. I guess ice skating isn't a sport, because they have judges. C'mon, If I'm forced to watch poker as a sport on ESPN, then cheerleading is a sport too. These girls are as athletic and sometimes even more athletic than the athletes their cheering for. I wish that one of our local schools would stage a cheer competition just for the San Gabriel Valley so we can recognize cheer for all their hard work. If we had a "champions of the valley" competition, I promise to cover it and put it up on the front page. It would be our superbowl of cheerleading day. Just a thought anyway.

Walnut Insider said:

I always love discussing cheer leading as a sport or non sport. I am of the breed that says if the competition isn't head to head then it isn't a sport. I don't think judges or anything subjective should determine the outcome of any competition.

Discuss.

Nogales Cheerleaders are the BEST! Very energetic and had our home crowd watching their every move! Much props for recognizing some true athletes Fred! They deserve it.

Huh? said:

So because there are injuries, that makes cheerleading a sport?

Tons of people get injured cooking thanksgiving dinner each year...does that make it a sport?

My little cousin likes to play with stray cats and has been hurt WAY more times than my son who plays football. Guess THAT'S a sport too then huh?

Last summer I fell off the ladder when I was hanging a picture in my hallway! SPORT!

See where I'm going with this? Gimme another argument other than "Lots of people get hurt"

I'm a Cheer Mom for one of the Nogales Cheerleaders.

Fred I agree 100%
My wife pointed out the Nogales cheerleader team
when they played West Covina this season, they were intense and full of energy, I bet they are the best squad in the valley hands down, now if their football team was that good they would be playing in the Pac 5.

Cheerleading is a SPORT, there was an article in TIME Magaize about it being the MOST DANGEROUS SPORT.

Most people just don't know about it, but some of these competitions pack 5k people even more @ Nationals.

But cheerleading at High School sporting events is something different, it's about getting the crowd going and IF that's all you see from your school then some might not think Cheerliading to be a sport.

Fred, there are some GREAT youth programs in our are, CO, Glendora and Whittier come to mind, but as far as High schools go, I think Glendora has a very talented team...

So yes it's a sport but not at the games...

FredJ said:

I thought cheerleading was a sport? Or at least ESPN thinks it is.

Woooow, that's amazing! I've never seen a che....Oh Wait! They ALL do that same trick.

Quit watching the cheer teams Robledo and focus on sports. Geez
