Smudge Pot on turf: Bonita wins both
This is what makes the blog fun, we can't cover every game, but I received an email about the Smudgepot on turf, with a nice picture of the girls soccer team posing in front of the trophy. You send something worthwhile, I'll share it, here's what was sent:
Boys Soccer: Bonita 2, San Dimas 0
Girls Soccer: Bonita 3, San Dimas 0

The email even came with a history behind the classic.
In 1990 a simple idea was born in the San Dimas/La Verne AYSO program. Because virtually every player in the two communities grew up playing AYSO soccer either with or against each other, it seemed only natural to continue the tradition of camaraderie and competition AYSO is known for, at the high school level as well. An aluminum, sand casted soccer ball trophy, split in two, was custom made, detailed down to the stitch marks by a local AYSO referee at Alum-Alloy. This was to become the perpetual trophy, one half for the girls winner and one half for the boys winner. Only if the same school wins both the boy's and girl's game is the trophy complete. Now strongly embraced and promoted by the entire soccer community in both cities, the Soccer Ball Classic is played in the spirit of which it was created.

Comments
Does this sound like a clean game? The goalie was off the ground with the ball in her hands and they hit her from behind sending her to the ground on her back. The player should have been carded but was not, only called for a foul. She is currently unable to start league. And all that for a non-league game. Oh, and what about the kick in the back by one of your forwards to one of our defenders along with a comment about paybacks? Speaking of paybacks - are you aware that our JV team has only had one goal scored against them all year? none by Bonita. looking forward to 09-10.

Just how are you better than San Dimas in education? Are you counting a few tanted test scores? And how many students did you send to Ivy League schools last year?

I must have missed the Unfair play by Bonita. I thought that both teams played very competitive. It was nice to finally have some competition from San Dimas. We look forward to watching both teams strengthen and play well. Best to Bonita and San Dimas in their season!!
GO Bearcats!!

The trophy for hoops is called, The Bottle of Piss :)
The soccer note, have SD boys soccer program won a game in the past 4 years? They suck.

And maybe next year your girls team could play a fair game and not take the goalie out in the second half. Congrats on almost ending her season.

The New Girl's Program Coach, Nick Charney, was hired this year with a full resume. Northern California soccer expereience coaching and playing at many levels. He brings to the program a staff of experienced coaches. He along with assitant coach John Turrubiartes are proving the players have what it takes to make the statement. "We are Back!"

There's the Smudgepot which is for football, and this is called the "The Classic." They just started with the trophy for basketball last year and I forget what it's called.

Was at the girls game last night. Wow, Bonita looks good! They had quite a down year last year but it certainly appears that they are back in a big way.
their coach appears to know his stuff. Anyone know his story?
