Soccer postgame - Wilson earns top ranking
Boys Soccer
Thursday's results
Wilson 2, Diamond Ranch 0
Mira Valdez was grimacing in pain moments after Wilson High School's impressive 2-0 boys soccer victory over four-time defending Miramonte League champion Diamond Ranch on Thursday. Valdez turned his right ankle in their previous game against Bonita. When the trainer removed the tape after he had scored both goals and improved the CIF-Southern Section's Division IV's top-ranked Wildcats to 14-2-2 and 3-0, a smile finally lit up his face after helping the Wildcats take over first place. Diamond Ranch, No. 7 in Div. IV, dropped to 10-3-2 and 2-1-1. "This was a big one," said the 5-foot-5 striker who plays more as an attacking midfielder. "I could barely feel my ankle, but this is my senior year. I was in a lot of pain but there was no way I was missing this game. "They've been the champions for a while but now it's our turn. We want league, we want CIF, so it's all out the rest of the way."
Fred's take: I heard a lot about Valdez but hadn't seen him. He is the best player I've seen in the two years covering this area. He's a rare left-footed player with incredible skill, great balance and beautiful finishing skills. College's are always looking for skilled lefties, and he has the good to play at the next level.

And our soccer team has beat you 4-1, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 by forfeit because you cheated and tied you 2 times for the past three years....
OWNED!
Hmmm, well let's see.
Our Girls Golf won league, won CIF and finished 2nd in THE STATE TOURNAMENT!
Our Boys Cross Country team won league.
Our Girls Cross Country team finished 2nd in league
Our volleyball team finished 3rd in league and made CIF.
Our Boys soccer team is currently in 2nd place in league.
Our Girls Soccer team is currently in 1st place in league
Our Girls Waterpolo team is currently ranked #9 in CIF.
Our Softball team will probably be ranked #1 in the valley.
Our Boys track team will battle with Diamond Ranch for the league title again, just like last year.
Our Girls track team will most likely finish 2nd behind Diamond Ranch.
Our Boys volleyball team will once again be ranked in CIF and probably win league.
Our Boys Golf team is ranked in CIF and will probably win league again.
And the funny thing is that even our teams that do suck are still beating your teams...football, boys waterpolo, baseball, basketball.
Listen, don't be bitter because your school has fallen apart in recent years. Just think back fondly on those few years where you were able to compete in this league and this city.
Wilson Parent...or is it"Wilson Paret"
You obviosly don't know much about LA! Ask around and find out what team has gone 32-0 and has back to back Miramonte league titles in Cross Country. Not to mention, three Miramonte MVPs in the last three years and a Freshmen Runner who was just named as one of the top Freshmen distance runners in the State of California.
Laughable,
Quick LA Parent, name the sports that LA is good at this year!
Ummmmmmmmmm....Boys Soccer......Ummmmmm......Badminton..........Ummmmmmmm....Tennis.........

Do you mean the scrimmage game that Wilson played against Workman? Those SCRIMMAGE games do not go on the record? When they played three periods with no ref? Is that what you are talking about?
Wilson Parent...What is your point? And why do you care? I don't see the A@s whopping you received by Workmen on your record!
Funny how the LA Parents come on this blog and talk the crap, but when you check their standings they only show one league game. I wounder what their real record is. They also show about 4 to 6 games less than the rest of the teams. What is your real record?
Wilson always ends up their warmups with forwards taking shots whild defenders work on somethign else and halfbacks do something else. Those Wilson coaches suck!!!
DON'T WATCH COLLEGE OR MLS THEY BOTH SUCK...
diogenes,
You know absolutely nothing about soccer do you? Do me a favor and ask ANY soccer coach who is worth a damn what constitutes a good pre-game warm-up. A team should NEVER do shots on goal before a game. That's so AYSO!
"Okay kids, there are 20 of you so line up and 19 of you are gonna stand still for two minutes at a time while one takes shots."
Go watch a college or MLS game and let me know how much shooting takes place in warm-ups. All you see is players "tapping the ball back and forth".
Shots are for practice, pre-game warm-ups are for WARMING UP your muscles and refining your touch of the ball. Jackass.
CO-LA game and warmups revealed a basic truth to soccer. A strong defense can counter a high powered and high scoring offensive team. And, if LA spent some time actually practicing hard shots on goal instead of tapping the ball back and forth they might score more. But,it was a good game by both sides.
SoccerFan,
Please....
LA football ....
Try LA softball....
You really don't want to go their.
Fred,
Nice article about Mira...when are you going to write something about the team?
You know, to tell you the truth, I am very happy to see that Wilson High school is doing so well in some of the other sports.
Even though this is not a football thread, I have to say that the recent issues surrounding the football team must have been very frustrating for allot of folks over at that school this last year.
BTW, I just hope that things turn out much better for not only them in this regard, but also for the kids over at La Puente High school as well.
That last statement about the "clueless coach" was not posted by me. If someone from Los Altos has something to say about their own coach then you should have the courage to do it with your own name.
Los Altos will win Miramonte this year. They will show Wilson who rules the heights. Just like football.

Mira Valdez is a very talented player, but if you want to sede a truly great player (and great kid) go see Los Altos's Kevin Martinez. He is a great finisher with incredible speed and he's got a great team around him. This team would be unstoppable if not for their completely clueless coach. They are a great team that will underachieve for the fifth year in a row.
BP BEAT POMONA 2-1 TODAY. THAT LEAVES B.P. AT 4-0 IN LEAGUE PLAY AND 16-1 OVERALL.
