The week after New Year's generally produces attractive nonleague games because tournament season is over and league starts the following week. First-year St. Lucy's girls soccer coach Robert Rodrigues said the Regents were looking forward to Thursday's nonleague encounter against Walnut since Christmas.
Walnut is not the power that won three CIF-SS championships this decade, but the Mustangs still are one of the Valley's best teams. St. Lucy's traditionally is tough as well, having last competed in a championship game in 2001. That made for a good crowd Thursday to watch how the teams measured up.
St. Lucy's defender Lynsey Browne finished a beautiful header on a corner kick from Denni Joe Berger in the 61st minute. But Walnut's Dana Catone scored in the 64th minute for the equalizer in game that fittingly ended in a 1-1 tie.

"When you play a team with Walnut's tradition and history, it's a great measuring stick," Rodrigues said. "I thought we played a good game and dominated as far as possession.
"It was frustrating because we feel like we deserved to win and were pushing in the end trying to get the game winner. But at the end of the day you have two very good teams that will both have pretty good shots of winning league titles."
Browne not only is a phenomenal defender, but her height on set pieces makes her dangerous. After the Mustangs tied it, Browne almost scored off another corner kick in the 66th minute when her header just went wide.
St. Lucy's (5-2-4) had other decent chances, but Mustangs centerbacks Marissa Woods and Nikki McKee did a good job disrupting the Regents' passes in the final third.
"Lynsey is a great marking back, but yeah, she's definitely a threat in the air," Rodrigues said. "We would like to get her in on the attack a little more, but she's so valuable in the back.
"But again, give Walnut some great. They're a more physical team than they look, and they're well-organized. Their back line did a terrific job making it difficult on us."
Walnut's (5-5-2) tying goal was a thing of beauty as well.
Krissy Slusser's long throw-in to the middle of the penalty area was headed back by Megan Pierce and, off one bounce, Catone one-timed it with her left foot. Regents keeper Carley Pennington had no chance of making a save.
"Dana's been on fire for us," Mustangs coach Lorraine Hansen said. "She's normally a starting defender, but she was struggling a little so we moved her to midfield against Claremont and she scored some goals, and we made her an attacking midfielder against Ayala and she scored twice, so she's been a big spark. I think we found a home for her."
Hansen wasn't upset with the draw either.
The Mustangs had a rough time in difficult Christmas tournaments and after graduating so many talented players, including Tribune player of the year Nadia Link, they're still experimenting with different combinations.
"I thought we had some good opportunities in the first half," Hansen said. "For us to come back while I was shifting players back and forth trying to figure out different things was huge for their confidence."

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I understand that topic being really an issue that I think I might by no means understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your future post, I can try to get the hang of it!
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Any way I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon. How long have you been blogging for?

Amazing blog=) I will require a decent amount of time to ponder this stuff!
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
You are a very smart person!

A subject near to my heart thanks, i've been wondering about this for a while.
A fish aquarium is designed to offer domesticated marine life with a contained environment that mimics that of their natural habitat. Having first become popular in the 1950s, fish keeping is now widely enjoyed by many as a fun hobby and as a beautiful addition to the home. When maintained properly, fish aquariums can add a decorative touch to any room.
Great post cheers, found you through Google.

Is walnut marissa woods the best sweeper in the valley? I think so.
Its Jasmine Roth not Rose.
I just have to say that Lynsey Brown is HOT!
Last night. SL played Maranatha @ Maranatha and won 3-0. This was a great turn of events as SL lost to Maranatha 2-1 in Claremont tournament. Great win before season begins. Down note: Star player Lindsey Brown was hurt at the game and this could alter the season pending the severity.
guess I will add a comment just to show I like seeing other things besides Bishop Breakdowns...just kidding.
on a serious note, it was nice to see the girls play a solid game. I have been talking to the players and coaches and Walnut is still trying to find the right combination of personal (as stated in the article) to make up for the lost seniors. I am concerned that it has taken this long, but as long as it works right?
I was told that the reason the Ayala game got out of hand was the fact that the coach made 3 - 4 defensive changes through out the game and our players couldn't adjust. I don't have a problem losing pre-season games because they really don't mean much. But with league starting next week let's hope Coach Hansen has found her line up.
